82. 17:38it's been indeed this is the uh the commemorative it's our new logo and it's also this is a a uh Limited Edition

84. 18:05um so what's the AI salon so the AI Salon is a group of AI adventurers so people that are learning about this AI
85. 18:15stuff together and you can find the community here at Ai salon. mn. and what it's all about is I'll I'll I'll show show you
86. 18:31here wasn't I there I thought I was there uh I guess I left [Music] hold so so the AI Salon is um about
87. 18:49getting together as a community and just exploring this stuff together um so so how we describe ourselves as a ragtag
88. 18:57group of Misfits Nero Wells and miscreant who have gathered to explore the Uncharted Wilderness of generative
89. 19:03AI where everyone from entrepreneurs to Educators from healthcare workers to creatives and everyone in between and it
90. 19:10it really is like that people are from all over the place everyone's trying to figure this stuff out um and and we do
91. 19:17it in a really interesting way we're curious we are it's a generous group so people as they're learning stuff are
92. 19:24sharing what they're learning salon's birthday is my daughter's 12th too awesome lunar stick that's super
93. 19:30cool um exploration is one of our values collaboration it's a collaborative group uh it's an inclusive group and it's an
94. 19:38empathetic group so so everybody right now is trying to figure this AI stuff out and everyone's here's what I think
95. 19:45is a universal feeling right now I'm behind um I'm not very good at this and everyone knows more than I do and the reality it is you're not
96. 19:59behind we're very very early um everyone does not know more than you do nobody knows anything I don't know anything
97. 20:08every time I think I've got this [ __ ] figured out they change the rules um so so no matter how far behind you think
98. 20:14you are you're not and so that's what the group's about and so we've got um we've got in-person meetings so tomorrow
99. 20:22night at 5:00 p.m. mountain time I'm in Denver um we're kicking off our one-year anniversary meeting um and you can come
100. 20:34in person here in Denver or you can join online and uh so if you go to um if you join the community and RSVP for that you

113. 22:45well my thoughts on Bard for the first six months of the year were boy is that embarrassing from the people that invented the trans
114. 22:58former what uh it was pretty bad and then sometime around July mid July they it just got better um and it's
115. 23:10been what Bard does really well right now is that it um is it's connected to the internet how they've they haven't
116. 23:19really integrated search so much as they've integrated links to websites as appropriate in a pretty sophisticated way I like that um
117. 23:29Bard can apparently I just heard this today can apparently I know it could write code but it can apparently write
118. 23:36and execute code um so you can test your code on it that it's writing for you um it's also indexed all of
119. 23:45YouTube so you can go right now to Bard pop in a YouTube URL and say summarize the the sections of this event or this
120. 23:57video Chapter IE it and it will do it for you um and I think that's going to get much more sophisticated cuz it'll
121. 24:05even do chapters where it like gives you links to the different it'll jump you to different parts of the video um so
122. 24:12that's that's pretty powerful so so it is I would say it's a good if if if you're an F1 race fan um chat GPT right now is Max ver
123. 24:26stappen and Bard is you know Bard is they're not quite Williams or hos but you know they're you know they're in the they're
124. 24:37in the they're in the mid to rear pack they occasionally score in the points if you if you know F1 they occasionally score in the points um
125. 24:53but there is a a a looming update called Gemini from Google that is supposedly a chat GPT 4 killer um and you know Google's got all
126. 25:10of our data they've got all of YouTube they've got all the Google searches they got all the Google Maps they invented
127. 25:17the Transformer they have 200,000 people that's not necessarily an advantage that's probably a disadvantage it what's
128. 25:24amazing is open AI has 800 people people Google has 200,000 people and they're struggling to catch up and it it makes
129. 25:32sense right a bigger company like that is is stuck in its ways they also Google effectively had a monopoly for 15 years um so they are not
130. 25:48necessarily as Nimble as they they might want to be in this current environment but uh but but apparently uh Gemini is coming and it's
131. 25:59going to be really good so I'm actually I'm actually looking forward to that I would not count Google out by any
132. 26:03stretch of the imagination they have they have lots of money and uh lots of very very smart people in fact in the AI
133. 26:12Salon Pate uh who works at Google runs the AI mechanics Guild which is the the tech Guild the tech explanation Guild
134. 26:19been faking Google's C oh taking Google's Cloud classes all day since lunch how are they lunatick are they
135. 26:25good are they are they dry are they they are they intended for um non-technical audiences why did Sam get fired and then rehired
136. 26:42okay well we don't really know what the board said was that they lied he lied to them there are all sorts of rumors um
137. 26:57there was a story that came out today yesterday that um open AI is spending a lot of money on a on processors from a company that Sam's an
138. 27:14investor in um so so there could be something there um the the big rumor is that about 2 weeks
139. 27:28before they fired him with this math protocol called qar they hit AGI that's the rumor what's AGI AGI stands for
140. 27:44artificial general intelligence and the rumor is that um that they got this new method to do some some low-level math
141. 27:59equations like grade school level math equations but it did them 100% correct and large language models are not good
142. 28:06at math that like the most they've gotten them is like 85% 90% um 100% means that this thing is effectively
143. 28:16reasoning and all sorts of dominoes fall when large language models can reason or what this I I think qar is a logic layer
144. 28:27that actually sits on top of the large language model but I'm I I don't understand it super deep um and the tension
145. 28:40between the board who was primarily made up of researchers that are part of the nonprofit so so open AI is a what's
146. 28:51called a capped for-profit company meaning that the investors of open AI can make money but only up to a certain
147. 28:59point and then any money above that that the company generates go gets funneled back to the nonprofit and then the board
148. 29:07of the nonprofit controls the for-profit entity um the rumor is that they hit AGI and Sam is moving too
149. 29:17fast and the nonprofit board wanted to slow him down effectively but there were also all sorts of infight like it's I
150. 29:27I don't know but but what what ended up happening was this um they fired Sam they stripped Greg Brockman the chairman of the board and
151. 29:38co-founder was Sam those two are in cahoots they stripped him of his chairmanship he quit and then it was back and forth all weekend and
152. 29:48then um it seemed like they were negotiating a deal to bring Sam back and then they hired this guy uh named EMT
153. 29:57sheer who's a very conservative slow AI down kind of guy um and then the Monday after they fired him Sachi and Adella the CEO of
154. 30:10Microsoft said Sam's coming to work for Microsoft so's Greg so are the top three researchers that left open Ai and we're
155. 30:19going to give them all this money and in fact we just announced a $50 billion investment in gpus uh over the next however many years
156. 30:28and uh they're going to get to come play here and then Monday night yeah Monday night um Mila the CTO wrote a letter from all the
157. 30:44employees saying hey uh unless the board resigns we're quitting and and I think 770 of 790 employees signed that letter so and and
158. 30:58then Microsoft said we'll match your salaries come work here so so basically what happened was the nonprofit board wanted to slow open AI
159. 31:08down it was done in such a way that the entire company was going to quit and go work for Microsoft so whatever nonprofit
160. 31:18uh guard rails were in place were about to be flushed down the toilet cuz it it would have just been a wholly owned
161. 31:25Microsoft it would have been the cheapest AC position of a company in history and then they um they they fired
162. 31:33or you know two of the board members quit one of the board members stayed on they brought Sam back they brought Greg back everyone's
163. 31:42happy well I don't know if everyone's happy Ilia might not be happy the CTO I don't know if they found a home
164. 31:48for him yet but um but anyway it seems to be back to normal it was a bizarre crisis it was really bizarre weird weird weird weird let me

167. 32:37from the information well I thought they were going to release it this week and then they delayed it so it wouldn't be
168. 32:43it wouldn't be a surprise if they if they actually announce it and demo it because they're they're Google's
169. 32:49Google's sucking wind right now with this AI stuff I don't know that it's hurting them but I I got to think that
170. 32:56there are some sh shifting statistics I just for me personally the amount of Googling I do compared to before is like this much and when I
171. 33:11use it it feels aric so their Saving Grace right now is as many people as have used chat GPT 80% 80% of the people in the US haven't used
172. 33:23it yet this is we're still very very early also I should be studying for my mlo exam but I'm not interested in it

178. 34:34Alman firing um I it seems to me it was a hybrid it was a hybrid reason and maybe they did make some sort of AGI
179. 34:42breakthrough but there was also tension um this this woman Helen toner wrote a white paper that with in
180. 34:51it was sort of a a dig against open Ai and that apparently pissed off Sam and so I and and then there was apparently
181. 35:00tensions between Ilia and Sam and Adam D'Angelo and Sam I I don't even [ __ ] know like it's it it really was it
182. 35:08really like the five days of you know open AI seemingly ready to you know implode was like chat TMZ like it was
183. 35:18it's just all speculation even still we don't really know what happened so it's all still speculation but
184. 35:25um I think it spooked a lot of people it it drove a lot of companies to start exploring open- Source more and and
185. 35:32start exploring other options um the challenge is right now is that no one is close I if if Gemini is close
186. 35:43great um but no one no one has what chat GPT has right now [Music] so
187. 35:57hang on one sec is that oh no never mind all right all right one of the new board members was the key was key in the 2008
188. 36:14financial crisis right yep it's listen they they brought it okay to be clear um Microsoft will have a board Observer
189. 36:27seat which just basically means they're in the room um they can't vote but they're in the room but the the the triumvirate of of three
190. 36:39board members right now two of them were sort of adults in the room what you got to realize here is that even though Microsoft is a minority
191. 36:49investment a 49% investment into the for-profit entity that's owned by the nonprofit entity the behavior of the nonprofit entity was so
192. 37:04amateurish like they announced that they fired Sam Alman and hadn't told Microsoft Microsoft's one of the biggest
193. 37:14companies in the world they're betting their entire company on chat GPT on open Ai and so why it took them four or five days to
194. 37:31negotiate this I guarantee you was Microsoft saying this isn't happening again like whatever the [ __ ] you guys
195. 37:42did good on you for whatever your reason were we're willing to put Humpty Dumpty back together but we're going to do it
196. 37:50in a way that this isn't ever going to happen again they've got to protect their investment so um so that's that's why you've got you
197. 38:02know more traditional you know Financial um big economy players uh on the board right now along with Adam
198. 38:17D'Angelo um but we'll see hopefully they hopefully they make they they you know they get a nice board together that's
199. 38:23nice and diverse and things like that but that's what's going on yeah it was absolutely days of days of AI these are the days of
200. 38:33AI it was [ __ ] crazy uh hard corners and die
201. 38:51cut okay cool groovy all right let's see I made an iOS shortcut that uses chat GPT to search totally stopped using go
202. 39:02Google there you go that's Bing search right so but it's not even Bing search where Bing is getting advertising right
203. 39:11they're just using the API call for the search um yeah I I think that I think that at a minimum traffic has probably
204. 39:21shifted at at Google I their their Market percentage has not dropped as much as I thought it would would but
205. 39:29Market percentage and overall search volume might be very different things I missed the live the past two days this
206. 39:36week and feel so incomplete oh source camp we missed you we missed you um you you are not complete you are you are
207. 39:43totally complete you're perfect just the way you are oh my g this Tick Tock oh I know is it bad is it is it freezing up I know

211. 40:20birthday party tomorrow um yeah you guys are talking about Google like the sky is falling yeah listen I I I don't think
212. 40:27it's going away but I do think that I do think that uh I do think that some shit's going to have to change
213. 40:37and they don't have as much or you don't have as much pay um you don't Google doesn't have as much leeway in business model as Microsoft
214. 40:49does um and so if if search if search advertising does get threatened by this stuff then then it's I think it's a
215. 40:59bigger scramble but yeah I agree listen I don't think Google's going [ __ ] anywhere I I don't um but you know it's
216. 41:08a challenge they're in a challenge all businesses face challenge it's I mean it's AI is going to [ __ ] with everyone not just
217. 41:14Google didn't days of AI uh used to come right before generative Hospital oh that's really good Dr Jay all right so
218. 41:22there you are so so one of the things that happens here uh when when something good like that comes up the Irregulars

233. 43:58organically that are no nothing but sales funnel magnets where like you search for I want a p i want a PDF of uh I don't know a
234. 44:10marketing framework and there'll be like 20 sites that are like marketingresearch
235. 44:26these PDFs and you're like oh my God so it's like it's like the the entire internet has been ruined with SEO
236. 44:34injected websites that that rank organically that's that's the big issue I have with Google these days how do you
237. 44:42access the conventional feature wait the oh the conversational feature I have chat bt4 okay frequency of Love great question so chat GPT
238. 44:57has a a bunch of features that are a part of it there's it can make images it can see images it can write code it can
239. 45:05analyze data it can search the internet it can you know do its chat GPT things um and it can hear and it can talk but there's a big butt
240. 45:20here the talkie bits only happen on the IOS and Android app the chat GP app the website doesn't have it yet so and then
241. 45:30but the app doesn't have certain things that the website does but then the app has other things that the website
242. 45:37doesn't like say the app has the ability to search your prompt history and the website doesn't what the [ __ ] anyway how
243. 45:46do you how do you get it in conversation mode is this is just an iPad so there's Pi which is a conversational GPT like
244. 45:55large language model and there's chat GPT so I'm going to oh I did that backwards that was pretty good so there's chat
245. 46:02GPT and am I in 3.5 or 4 I'm in chat GPT 4 but it also works in 3.5 they made this available for both
246. 46:13free users and paid users how you get to the conversation mode is that little icon right there the little headphones

316. 58:15competitor um for chat GPT co- pilot is Microsoft's version of chat gp4 now in my opinion the 20 bucks a month for chat
317. 58:29GPT unless you can't afford it if you can't afford it [ __ ] it don't do it if you can afford it the 20 bucks for chat
318. 58:37GPT Plus for GPT 4 is like the deal of the century the the value that you get for like all of the [ __ ] it can do right now is

330. 1:00:26Bots um so it's a competitor to chat GPT and their gpts which are also going to have a store where you can monetize your
331. 1:00:36gpts fun little trivia fact the CEO of quora is a guy named Adam D'Angelo who's on the board of open AI who has a competitive product to
332. 1:00:49their little Bots don't know how that works but you know there you go okay um these are the big four for image
333. 1:00:58generation Dolly 3 mid Journey Leonardo and Firefly um Dolly 3 is built into co-pilot from Microsoft and chat GPT 4 mid Journey you
334. 1:01:13have to make images on Discord but the quality of this is the best still Leonardo if you like flipping switches
335. 1:01:19and dials is sitting on top of stable diffusion so it's got lots of cool things it does um it's got an API you can train custom

354. 1:04:08and Runway ml so you're going to be able to generate Runway ml videos that are trained on all of Getty's you know images and video
355. 1:04:20library fully licensed so the quality of Runway ml videos is probably going to go up pretty dramatically so and and those
356. 1:04:29kind of Partnerships are are going to be the things that separate these these base Technologies the proprietary data
357. 1:04:36that that these guys get access to is going to be what separates them um so anyway that's that Runway TV is also
358. 1:04:43really interesting if you start making videos with Runway ml you can submit your your video to Runway TV which is

385. 1:08:57Kevin mallister moment so that moment so if you've had that moment what what seems to be a pretty consistent theme is
386. 1:09:06once people have had that moment you really can't go back from it it's kind of it's kind of a red pill blue pill
387. 1:09:12thing where where we're we're all currently living in in blue pill um you know the blue pill world and and the
388. 1:09:21minute you play with this AI stuff long enough to have that moment where you go holy [ __ ] this is different you can't go
389. 1:09:28back from it and so this group is all of those people so if in your life you try to talk about Ai and your kids or your

399. 1:11:06this cat GPT is a year old the open AI playground is like 5 years old so platform. open.com playground is where developers go to develop AI
400. 1:11:24applications that use the open AI API and API stands for application programming interface it's basically how
401. 1:11:31people that want to create applications like chat GPT how they do all their testing and the development of the
402. 1:11:38prompts and and how they you know do what they need to do to build their program the advantage of knowing about
403. 1:11:47the playground is that it does a lot of the same things you can go there and have it write a prompt and have it
404. 1:11:53generate a response and you can go there and create what what in the in the playground they call an assistant which
405. 1:12:00is just like a a GPT on the on the front end so on the left hand side chat GPT is sort of the consumer
406. 1:12:08application and then the playground is the developer playground right the developer sandbox where they can go play
407. 1:12:15with all the the the switches and the flips and the apis and the documentation so if you're geeky and you want to geek
408. 1:12:21out go hang out in the playground if you don't mind you know messing around with different models and weights
409. 1:12:28and temperatures and things like that then you can go play there if that sort of stuff makes your head hurt then just ignore it all right

505. 1:32:20settings now here's the caveat with all these video things all these video things are super slick they demo really
506. 1:32:27well they're not cheap it ends up being about two bucks a minute for hey Jen um it's a credit system and it's
507. 1:32:36like 30 bucks a month for 60 credits or I don't know how many credits some amount of credits 30 credits maybe and
508. 1:32:48then it's like I think it's two it's a is it two credits a minute maybe it's a credit a minute I don't know what it
509. 1:32:57is but it's not cheap no they infrastructure is decent there's just a ton of traffic traffic and scaling is
510. 1:33:03hard yep yeah no no no I I like the fact that open AI was able to scale to 100 million users in six weeks was really

575. 1:46:55technical um I'm sure Stamford has some um you can go look at uh it depends how how geeky you want to get what what I
576. 1:47:04would say is this um follow Rachel Woods here on Tik Tok her company's called the AI exchange she's really more into AI
577. 1:47:12Ops so things like you know which large language model should I use and how do I do this and how do I automate things and
578. 1:47:19things like that so if you want to apply um generative AI to business she's probably pretty good I would
579. 1:47:30be I would be careful not to put too much I wouldn't invest a ton personally and I wouldn't
580. 1:47:46um put a ton of faith into that what you're learning isn't going to be obsolete in 3 months so so I for me personally now
581. 1:47:59like it depends how what kind of learner you are like for me I'm a learner that needs handson um courses are are okay to get you up to
582. 1:48:13speed but what what you really need to do in probably for the next 18 months is get really curious and get really hungry
583. 1:48:22and just start learning everything you can just just be like a rabid you know person just be because what a course is
584. 1:48:29going to teach you is they're going to teach you one sort of vertical path like like here's how to use AI for business
585. 1:48:35and we're going to help you write business plans and Gussy up your resume and do this and they're going to teach
586. 1:48:40you this vertical slice and it's going to make AI seem like a productivity hack and AI is Way Beyond a productivity
587. 1:48:49hack that's like the first six months I was playing with this stuff I fell into the Trap of oh this is about efficiency and it is
588. 1:49:01remarkable at making things more efficient like I've built a number of efficiency tools for my business it's
589. 1:49:08remarkable at that but like that only scratches the surface of what this [ __ ] is and so one of the things I advocate
590. 1:49:16in here is something I call lateral play and and the play part I really mean play like just play just come to these
591. 1:49:25lives and and when I make a stupid ass joke make an image that matches the joke like generative hospital and share it to
592. 1:49:34the AI Salon Show and Tell Channel why because in doing that you'll learn how to write a prompt in a way that you're
593. 1:49:41like oh I got a different result there and something will click for you and you'll go wait a minute I bet this could
594. 1:49:47solve this problem I'm having over there at work or I'll show something about um music and and then you'll go oh let me
595. 1:49:54go look at these music things and then you'll discover a whole new world of stuff that that will on its surface feel like it's
596. 1:50:04frivolous but isn't because Chachi PT went from being only about text to being about text and images and seeing images
597. 1:50:13and using images as prompts and being able to talk with it and have it talk back to you in a in in like a a 4-week
598. 1:50:22period it went from being a single tool to being like eight tools and it if I hadn't just been [ __ ] around with
599. 1:50:32AI I wouldn't have known what to do with that and a lot of people are kind of stumped by like wait it does what how do
600. 1:50:38I wait I thought it did this so so I would say you know if you really want to find a course to solve a specific thing you can do that
601. 1:50:50but I would say cast a wider net of possibility and and just play just play just come here make stupid images make stupid songs
602. 1:51:02um make movies like like one of the things that I've noticed is like Drew there there's a number of people that
603. 1:51:09have been coming here that are starting their own Tik Tok channels where they're taking the images they're making and
604. 1:51:14they're animating them with Runway ML and with Tik Tock special effects and with I don't know what the [ __ ] they're
605. 1:51:19using and they're making music videos and they're doing whole channels about it like is that going to turn into
606. 1:51:25something for them I don't know but I guarantee you the process of them learning how to do that is going to
607. 1:51:31absolutely serve them as these tools get more and more sophisticated they're going to be able to go oh I know what I'd do with that
608. 1:51:38and they're going to turn it into something and at some point someone's going to go I want to work with you
609. 1:51:45so OMG when did you just say hey Siri my Siri said oh my God I'm so sorry it's [Laughter]

624. 1:54:53think 40 or 50 people they got to 200 million in Revenue with a with a Discord bot it's by far the the best in terms of image quality
625. 1:55:09like like Dolly 3 and um sort of Base stable diffusion are good but not great um the stable diffusion world is catching
626. 1:55:24up they've got a lot of people doing really interesting work with custom checkpoints and luras and things like
627. 1:55:31that my son and I just built a card game using GPT as the strategy calculator it's a great idea oh that's actually a
628. 1:55:39really you know cuz cuz I did a I did a card game i' come up with a card game like years back and I just CU of my ADD
629. 1:55:48I I I made May maybe a tenth of it and I used chat GPT to flesh it out in like half an hour it was pretty
630. 1:55:57amazing um but that would be a really interesting idea to to make a physical card game you could do a physical card
631. 1:56:04game you could do like an online card game and then you could have a GPT as the as the mediator that might be an
632. 1:56:16interesting business model did you know that you can get chat GPT to show images I'm 40 something wait I am 40s something

642. 1:57:51where regular people now have access to these remarkably powerful tools um because chat GPT essentially forced the
643. 1:58:03hand of all of the tech companies to aggressively go after this market so this is here to stay it's accelerating and and you don't need to
644. 1:58:15be a technologist to use it but you do need to be curious and adventurous and flexible and get into learning mode and get out of
645. 1:58:29um I need to read the manual mode there ain't no manual right now there will be there's not Suzanne I'm I'm 56 neurod

655. 2:00:23gnome so they did this thing called Deep Mind which basically predicted 400,000 protein foldings which you know in in
656. 2:00:31some short amount of time and it normally took like I don't know two months to do one of them with traditional means and they did 400,000
657. 2:00:41well they just dropped 2.2 million new crystallin structures on the materials world and and you know materials for things like batteries
658. 2:00:56and you know paints and Coatings and all the [ __ ] that makes our modern society work is from Material Science human beings had discovered
659. 2:01:08about 20,000 materials and then they used computers to augment their brains and they discovered another
660. 2:01:1628,000 so humans and computers combined had made um 48,000 known materials where they kind of knew their properties and
661. 2:01:29and deep mind just created 2.2 million of which 38,000 are stable with new properties and so we went from 48,000 to
662. 2:01:44421,000 or something like that materials essentially overnight they're claiming it's 800 years worth of scientific
663. 2:01:55advancement overnight they just published the paper and they're just putting these in the world here go go
664. 2:02:02scientists I think at this point 800 or so have been verified in Labs so so the the only thing we can be right
665. 2:02:16now is just kind of like aware It's Kind it's well you know what's funny we so I've got this this image of
