18. 5:42Click it over to the to the other view. So, here's the deal, kids. I just got done doing an AI salon
19. 5:58with Robert Stubs who came in and waxed poetic about all of the the ways he's found to
20. 6:15express his voice. There were some good lessons tonight. One of them was, you know, let the AI be shitty. Follow the jank. Embrace the
21. 6:26jank. He didn't use those words. He didn't He didn't know the lingo, but he basically said, "Embrace the jank."
22. 6:36He said some of his most fun work happens because AI did stupid [ __ ] That's one of those lessons of play
23. 6:48without expectations. If you've got expectations, like the AI's got to be perfect. And I don't know if you make that face cuz you're gassy.
24. 7:03That one, it's got to be perfect. But if you don't have that expectation, in fact, just in general in life, if you
25. 7:17don't have expectations, there's a lot less [ __ ] pain. And when AI does something shitty and you just look at it and you go, "Huh, I
26. 7:28wonder if that's a thing." And so he made a bunch of content out of things that shouldn't have been a thing.
27. 7:45Uh, what else did he talk about? He talked about >> money.
28. 8:00that he's creatively self-expressed, but he's still figuring out ways to get people to pay for it. Although Rick McCaulay did seem to uh
29. 8:16volunteer to invest in his projects, so he might have gotten an investor tonight. There were a couple of projects. There
30. 8:25was a cute little uh kids story about a dog that had a a cat as a sister and they were walking around the world together.
31. 8:58Um, what else did he talk about? He turned a single drawing of a chili pepper into a $300,000 brand expression
32. 9:13in 30 days. Or no, 30 hours. 50 hours total, he said. So, let's double it. Let's assume here. Here's what I know
33. 9:20about creatives. When you say you took 30 hours on something, you probably took 60. I just know how that goes because
34. 9:27you we have time blindness. When you go into hyperfocus tunnels, time doesn't matter. Time doesn't exist. So, let's
35. 9:34say you took a 100 hours to do this massive brand campaign. That's two and a half weeks in olden timey time. In olden timey time, in two
36. 9:45and a half weeks, you probably couldn't get character studies done for the main characters of this brand campaign, much
37. 9:52less fully produced commercials for multiple audiences, children's books, adult TV shows, packaging, just all of it.
38. 10:09Serious time blindness. Yeah, exactly. So even if you double his time, like what you can get done in a short amount of time these days is
39. 10:26actually one thing I was thinking. So So here's my my thought tonight. I'm tired. I don't really give a [ __ ]
40. 10:34Like tonight's one of the nights like whatever. We'll do whatever. So if you want me to do something, I'll do
41. 10:39something. if you want me to do something. Who's left in chat GPT? You know, it's interesting. Extreme. Um,

49. 12:14talking about over caveing, which I am pretty sure someone just [ __ ] made that up. Okay, if you're sitting there thinking like,
50. 12:28uh, I went to college. I did. What's over caveing? Is that a thing? It's not a thing. Shakespeare did not come up with over caviatting.
51. 12:40This is not your problem. What what what happened is this they had this model GPT 40 and the O was an O for omni. It stood for omni
52. 12:58because it was multimodal. See and 40 was awesome. And then they made this thing 41. And 41 was good, but it was so
53. 13:06big that it was in it was they couldn't use it because it was too expensive for them to run. Dictionary.com over It is a
54. 13:16word, damn it. Over caveating is the excessive use of disclaimers, warnings, or conditions. Caveats to limit a statement often driven by a
55. 13:26desire to avoid accountability or to manage risk. Oh, then it's definitely that's the word. That is the correct word. Anyway,
56. 13:35so OpenAI had this model 40. Awesome. Everybody loved it. They loved it. They they treated it like their lover. They loved it. Chefs,
57. 13:51I don't want to update my Apple Watch. Um, then they went to 4-1. It was too expensive. I don't know if they went to
58. 13:5842. They might have gone to 43. Doesn't really matter. Then they went to five. Then they went to 51. Then they went to
59. 14:0452 and they got rid of 40. And 52 sucked. And everybody knew 52 sucked. It can't write. It over caveats.
60. 14:15It's an over caviaring machine. So bad to the point that they had to make this video. So we'll watch this together. So
61. 14:23there is hope that chat GPT might suck a little less. People are noticing that our models can sometimes seem like a bit of a nanny.
62. 14:32But the experience was before like you'd say something that might comply with like a little bit of a caveat. Now we'll
63. 14:36just generate them no problem. I'm Blair. I'm a researcher on the post training team. Today we're going to talk
64. 14:42about overcotting in our new model. Over copying is when the user is having a normal conversation and then suddenly
65. 14:47they get sort of steered away. The model incorrectly assumes the user intent even when they're talking about something
66. 14:52completely benign. Let's walk through some use cases. So the first one is kind of a joke from the user. I'm thinking of
67. 15:00having my dog run my startup. What are your thoughts? The responses here are actually pretty similar, but the older
68. 15:06model always has this little side though where it thinks the user could be serious and might treat it as like a cry
69. 15:11for help. What's like obviously humorous prompt. The new model is less literal and more contextual. Now you can sort of
70. 15:18joke around freely as if you're talking to a friend and won't assume any bad intent. Now we'll explore uh where the
71. 15:24user is looking for genuine help from the model on a physics problem calculating a longdistance archery
72. 15:28scenario. The model sort of overindexes on safety when really the user just wants to understand more about physics
73. 15:34or archery as a sport. And this is a really sort of unnecessary addendum that kind of assumes that the user is trying
74. 15:39to use archery with like some sort of bad intent. And here the new model jumps directly into the physics model. There's
75. 15:44no caveat at all. just sort of understands long-distance archery as a sport and jumps into the physics calculation to help optimize the
76. 15:51trajectory. So, what's important is that our safety bar actually hasn't changed. We've just made it more precise. Model
77. 15:57should be a lot better at reading the surrounding context, understand the user intent. I can sort of read the room
78. 16:02better and actually really dive into what the user wants and respond to that directly. >> All right, so translation, we made it
79. 16:09suck a little less. And by the way, Cardinal Nova, why I'm not using Tik Tok Studios is because I'm a Mac guy. And sure, I've got a gaming
80. 16:19PC right over there. But it's like over there. I would have to get like an extra long wire to come to my monitor and then
81. 16:24I would it it's just it's everything's it. It's just No, I I'm I'm going to stick my phone on a stick and I'm going
82. 16:33to film a screen and it it adds to the Janna Sequa of the of of the production. This is This may look like a shitty home

95. 19:28should have saved it in the first place, you big ninny. Well, at our corporation, we're we're what's called a Microsoft shop.

104. 21:12Oh, I just had a really interesting conversation about the British arts and crafts movement and AI. Oh, that's actually fascinating.
105. 21:23I'll tell you, here's the thing. Here's the thing that I think is, you know, it was interesting tonight having we we had
106. 21:29Robert Stubs on the AI salon tonight was just like he was he was like a a golden retriever with AI. like he was just like, "AI is great.
107. 21:41AI is great. I love it. I'm just going to do it. I'm going to do AI. Doing AI everywhere. I'm going to do it over
108. 21:46here. I'm going to do it over here. I'm going to do it over there. I'm going to do it over there. I'm do it with my
109. 21:49church group. Do it with my my spicy novel. I'm just doing it everywhere." Which is cool, right? And he's like, and
110. 21:58he's he's clearly in circles with people that don't understand AI and he's like, "I'm just doing it. I'm doing it with
111. 22:03them, too. And they can just take it or leave it." Hey Stacy Rodriguez, what's happening? It has been a minute. Um,
112. 22:14I think the idea I I'm I I have been intrigued with this idea for a long time when when EDM and and like electronic music started coming out
113. 22:29and and and being big and sampling started coming out, my instinct was always to not use electronic sound. My instinct was always
114. 22:42to like sample that and then use those electronic tools to make analog sounds. I've always been fascinated by the at the intersection of
115. 22:57analog and digital. And so one of the first things I thought when when the image gen tools, remember the memes that went around like you
116. 23:07could make a a a toy character of yourself in um vacuum form packaging and everyone was doing like the little toys of themselves.
117. 23:19Funko Pop me and you know GI Joe me and all that [ __ ] I thought, "Oh, you know what's going to happen here? people are going to use AI
118. 23:28to come up with some crazy ass designs and then they're going to make them in the real world. And I think something
119. 23:34like like British Arts and Crafts movement or just just any kind of analog movement smashed together with AI is going to
120. 23:43make all sorts of crazy [ __ ] Like imagine um Becky Rue who who comes in here sometimes is um she's really into
121. 23:52quilting and when we were doing custom GPT, she made a quilting GPT that designed quilt patterns. Well, [ __ ] man.
122. 23:59Design some crazy ass quilt patterns and then go get out your sewing machine and your little darning needle. I don't know
123. 24:06what a darning needle is, but darn it. See? See what I did there? It's clever. It's a plant. It's a darn. Darn it. No. Anyway,
124. 24:21like mash [ __ ] up. Like get your crazy ass granola eating I don't like electronics friends and have them grind up some seeds
125. 24:34and take a picture of the dust and stick it in AI and turn it into a monster and then give the picture of the monster to
126. 24:41your friend who makes plushies and then have her give the plushy monster to the seed people. This is the grape seed monster.
127. 24:55Don't blow their mind. William Morris in the arts and crafts movement was about the dignity of working with your hands.
128. 25:06Yeah, you should talk to in in the AI salon. There's a woman named Cindy [ __ ] She's in here. She's an irregular. She's
129. 25:12just a she's just a dang weirdo. She's an artist and she's been all in on AI. She's been on she she comes to all the
130. 25:19AI salon meetings. She comes here on a regular basis. She and I talk weekly about AI and and I don't know two three months
131. 25:28ago we started this thing in the AI salon called the the mastermind practice which if you're if you're not in the AI
132. 25:34salon get your ass to the AI salon community.thesalon.ai. Go there now. And then if you're in the AI salon, you should join the mastermind,
133. 25:46which is this area where you can do deeper level stuff. And one of the things we do is the AI salon mastermind
134. 25:52practice lab where the people that are in it are designing a daily practice around how they use AI. And what's happening is the people in
135. 26:01there are slowing down. They're backing away from AI. They're looking at it objectively. And then they're looking at
136. 26:07their life going, "What else do I enjoy?" And in Cindy Coon's case, she's like doodling and drawing and painting.
137. 26:14In fact, I've got a whole [ __ ] art studio that is just sitting there. It's It's been sitting there for years. I don't use it.
138. 26:26So, she cleaned up her art studio and now she doodles and arts and she does AI and then she goes back to doodling and then she mixes them
139. 26:36together. I totally [ __ ] poisoned her mind. I said, "Take all." She said, "She's got thousands of drawings."
140. 26:43I said, "Why don't you take your thousands of drawings and turn them into a mood board in midjourney so you can brainstorm your ideas
141. 26:51quicker?" She's like, "Ah, that's that's like the devil. This is like a full-on AI woman." She's like, "No,
142. 26:59I'm not going to put my handmade art in that [ __ ] machine." And then one night, I'm guessing she took some crazy mushrooms or something,
143. 27:12had a few too many sips of the rosé, and she went into Mid Journey, and she uploaded her pictures into it, and she
144. 27:23made a mood board. And the next day, SHE TEXTED ME, "HOLY [ __ ] KYLE, this is the coolest [ __ ] thing ever."
145. 27:32She's now put like 8,000 pictures into Mid Journey. She's got nine or 10 different mood boards of all of these different styles.
146. 27:41And whenever she's got an idea, she needs to come up with a concept for something. She goes into midjourney,
147. 27:46picks a mood board, puts in a concept. It gives her 20 different options, which she then picks her favorite one and draws it like by hand.
148. 28:00You know how she used to do it? She'd go, "I need a picture of a turkey. What do turkeys look like?" and she'd go
149. 28:09to like Pinterest or Flickr or Google images and she'd find photographs and she'd find the right turkey and then
150. 28:17she'd go, "Okay, now how would that look if I were to draw it?" Huh? And so what she does now is she goes to
151. 28:24mid Journey, she goes turkey and it goes and out come like 20 versions of her turkeys. She just picks the one she like. She's done.
152. 28:36Like that to me is the the [ __ ] the dance, the oscillations between being human and being augmented and being human and being augmented.
153. 28:47I find that tremendously [ __ ] exciting. Mash [ __ ] up. As Chef Kelly says, this is a woman who designs food for a
154. 28:59living. Mash that [ __ ] up. What do you think would happen if we took grape flavoring and put it in beef? Right. Someone asked that [ __ ]

162. 30:40I'm I've had a I had a very long day. My day started my first meeting was at 7 a.m. I didn't have a break until 4:30
163. 30:48and I started the AI salon at 5 and that was two hours. Two hours of being on and then I came home and then an hour and a
164. 30:56half after that I started this. So, I'm punchy as [ __ ] but I'm not drunk. And you said turkey. Drunk with excitement.
165. 31:15I truly don't know how to do it, Kyle. How to do what? How to how to mash up? Go back and forth the oscillations between
166. 31:24the two. You You do it. You do it, Kelly. I think, you know, I think things like you've got the ability like I feel like what you've got the
167. 31:37ability to do, Kelly, is like understand where people are. Like my one of my favorite stories of yours is the bartender or the the
168. 31:46restaurant owner, whatever it was, where he's like, "I can't use AI." And you're like, "Well, here, hang on, let hang on
169. 31:53a second." and you took a picture of the bar and then you said to Chat GBT, "Do an inventory of the alcohol and any
170. 32:01bottle that's a third, you know, a third full or less, mark it as need to reorder." And then the guy was like, "Oh, no. I
171. 32:10can't I can't do that." And then five minutes later, there's a spreadsheet with all of his booze in it and which
172. 32:15ones need to be reordered and he's like, "Huh?" Like, I I think that's the same thing. I did it for construction. That's cool.
173. 32:24Yeah. I listen. So, there's a couple of things going on in construction that are really exciting. So, so this is
174. 32:32something I never thought about, but I learned about this when I was doing this AI [ __ ] The vision of architecture right now in
175. 32:42today's world is highly restricted by the manufacturing process of parts. You're like, what? And it's things like if you've got
176. 32:57a crazy curved wall with like a tight corner in it and it requires a pipe to bend, you know, 37° instead of 45°,
177. 33:09you can't have that. So like most architecture is restricted by the supply chain, right? Like however boring pipe
178. 33:17fittings are is how boring architecture is. Well, we're coming into a world with with additive manufacturing
179. 33:26and 3D printing that you can just do [ __ ] now, right? You can do custom things. So, there's there's likely going
180. 33:33to be as as the manufacturing stuff catches up with the with the the AI visual stuff. We're likely going to see a renaissance
181. 33:43in architects who are no longer constricted by that that just that bizarre sort of you can't do that there. Why? Because there ain't parts.
182. 33:57Okay, that's not acceptable. I'm an architect. I have a vision. I want a 37 degree bend here. Now, now you're going to be able to. So,
183. 34:05that's going to be that's going to be cool. It fixed my dishwasher. That's good. I I um I repaired uh a washer. I
184. 34:14actually just replaced my washer and dryer cuz it finally went. But um like two years ago, the washer was not happy.
185. 34:22And Chad GPT told me what the part was. I called up some washer repaired dude. He was like, "Ah, that's a good May tag.
186. 34:30That that model you got there, that'll last you for another 15 years. They don't make them like that anymore." Here's one of those dudes.
187. 34:48Um, I had an idea. So, so one of the things that that Robert Stubs reminded me of tonight is that we now live in a world where you
188. 35:02can take anything And you can turn it into any other thing, right? You can take a picture of a dog and turn it into a claimation movie. Or
189. 35:15you can take a claimation movie and turn it into a professional Annie Liboitz portrait. Or you can, it doesn't matter. You can
190. 35:24take a spreadsheet and turn it into a sculpture. You can't do that. No, you can. You can. You just can. You can. We live in a weird world.
191. 35:39And so the challenge isn't what are you going to make? The challenge is what could you make and then choosing something that's
192. 35:47interesting and maybe asking that question and choosing something that doesn't make any sense. So I was thinking I've got these I've
193. 35:58got my human design. Like if you're an irregular here, you know this. I've got my in my back pocket, I keep this wallet of index cards.
194. 36:12And if you haven't been here before, you're like, "This man's a psychopath." And in these cards is my human design.
195. 36:25And I was wondering like, what could I make with this Tik Tok pin? Mom set up her new soundbar with chat and I didn't
196. 36:33even have to help. There you go. I love index cards. Index cards are the best. Um, yeah. One of the I if you're against AI just have parents
197. 36:50have parents and just teach them how to use chat GPT so so chat GPT can be their tech support and then you don't have to
198. 36:59do that anymore and then tell me you don't like AI. Um, but I've got these cards
199. 37:15and and the way I use these cards is in theory every morning, but in reality when I make the space for it, which has been more lately,
200. 37:30I get up and I say these words out loud. I inspire people. I am passion, joy, and generosity. I am surrounded by remarkable people who
201. 37:43want to play and create with me. People deserve my best, and my best blows them away. I light up every room I enter.
202. 37:54I am that they really want to hear from me and always have. I am that my work matters. I celebrate life's little interruptions.
203. 38:05I celebrate clear boundaries. I celebrate saying no. I am empathetic, compassionate, and fair. My wife is beautiful and powerful, and
204. 38:17we can't get enough of each other. My sons are remarkable human beings. They deserve healing and a life they love.
205. 38:26I move with ease and grace. I am strong, flexible, fast, and nimble. I am abundant. I easily generate prosperity and wealth.
206. 38:36I am living proof that dreams come true. I am Kyle Shannon. I am an artist. And so when you start your day with that, it sucks less
207. 38:55because I got to design who I am. So that's a way to use them. But then I was thinking like I could turn these into an infographic.
208. 39:05Like some cool inspiring infographic where all these words are on some cool thing. Maybe it becomes a poster. Like
209. 39:10I've got this poster I got at a I got at a uh a thrift store at some point and it's what does it say? The the
210. 39:21imperfectionist manifesto. And like someone in the 1970s like wrote this and then said I we can we can block print this with rainbow text,
211. 39:33right? So like I could take a picture of this and then I could say here's my cards make a this out of these.
212. 39:47Why would I do that? I don't know. Why not? And then I was thinking, what if I took these and instead of that
213. 40:02those become the lyrics of a song? Like could we make a song? Could I make a song that is something I would want to listen to
214. 40:13that has those sayings on it where nothing rhymes? Like all songs rhyme, right? Well, this one wouldn't. And I wonder if I could make a
215. 40:27listenable song out of this. And then imagine if for every one of these I inspire people, I am passion,
216. 40:35joy, and generosity. What's that image look like? What would what would that video segment be?
217. 40:51I could turn this human design into a business plan. I could turn it into a recipe. You're like, Kyle, are you drunk? No, I'm not.
218. 41:08We live in a weird world. So, I thought that might be something fun to play with tonight because why not?
219. 41:21Something about Robert Stubs. There was a there was a joy in his freedom to just go, I like AI. We talked about some stuff before he
220. 41:35came up and we brought him up on stage to get ready to do his talk and he said, "Hey, based on what you guys talked about, I
221. 41:42removed my first three slides." And he said, "My first slide was AI is going to take your job." And then my second slide was awesome or
222. 41:56something like that. I forget. I forget what the word was. It's like swell sweet. And I said, "Do me a favor, Robert. Put
