40. 10:44her fans so she came back like two weeks later and just wiped the floor with us gave us a false sense of security and
41. 10:52just destroyed us back so we're one for one in the battles and we're never going to do another battle on this channel CU
42. 10:59it is the dumbest thing I've ever experienced in my life but what we will do is wax poetic about AI um I'll answer
43. 11:15questions I gave some folks over the weekend some homework so I'm curious if anyone explored using multiple

52. 12:44think an inevitable thing when when you have something like advanced voice that comes along that's really quite remarkable
53. 12:53um you know it it generally goes like this it generally goes there's a week of people talking about it but buzzing
54. 12:59about it and then it either increases in Buzz or it decreases in Buzz right and so the advanced voice is it's it's
55. 13:09maintaining it its Buzz I would say maybe increasing but the thing that happened over the weekend that I just
56. 13:15thought was so brilliant it was one of those why didn't I think of that and we we sort of had we had talked
57. 13:22about doing a little bit of prompt injecting where you would put put something at the beginning of a PDF
58. 13:27document that gives instructions to the the podcast basically so somebody somebody on Reddit the document that they uploaded
59. 13:38to notebook if you don't I'm talk no don't know what I'm talking about in Notebook LM I switched gears from uh
60. 13:46advanced voice to notebook LM but it's all in the same same neighborhood so in Notebook LM it's this thing where you
61. 13:52can upload PDFs and then you can interact it with it like chat GPT but you're interacting with your PDFs it's
62. 13:58really slick they added this feature called audio overview that makes a podcast between a man and a woman and
63. 14:04they're like oh what do we think about this new book collective intelligence oh it's pretty good and it's got these
64. 14:09ideas and they go back and forth It's really remarkable so what someone did over the weekend was they wrote a PDF
65. 14:18which was the producers notes for the last episode of the show starring these two people called The Deep dive so it was like producers
66. 14:28know and in the producers notes it it has it has the The Two Hosts reveal that they're actually not human that they're
67. 14:42Ai and so there's this this podcast of these two people going well this is this is kind of an intense one uh and at one
68. 14:51point she just goes why don't you just break it to him and he's like okay well it appears we're not human and they
69. 14:58have this whole existential lament about finding out that they were not human and and the dude the dude goes yeah I was
70. 15:07really upset and I'm like I I had to call my wife I mean I had to call my wife and just hear her voice and he goes
71. 15:14so I called the number but the number wasn't [Laughter] real so that happened and then there were a couple other ones where people of
72. 15:27jailbroken advanced voice and gotten it to do like be like really jealous and screaming [ __ ] you and and so I I feel
73. 15:36like like with advanced voice we we got our week of sort of Buzz about it and then over the weekend we got the
74. 15:44hackers attacking these tools and so um so so that says to me they're worth hacking right like hackers don't waste their [Music]
75. 15:57time but advanced voice is quite remarkable in this podcast tool in in Notebook LM Andre karpathy talked about
76. 16:05it this morning and said it's like the best thing he's he's used in a while um lot just lots and lots of people talking

93. 19:35someone you know if if if someone if if a if a local model is being talked about a lot on X as something good and especially if it's
94. 19:46someone you've seen before you can generally trust it I don't know how much damage they could do with a with some
95. 19:52sort of injected like I don't one of the reasons I don't play around with open source much is I I am not good enough

119. 25:22and versions of themselves and it's it's it's really a fascinating exercise because the minute you start getting into the the
120. 25:37realm as soon as you delve into the realm of crossing the tapestry of recreating yourself [ __ ] gets weird like Cindy [ __ ] was like it it
121. 25:49made me realize I've got all these ticks and I don't I don't want to realize that and it didn't make me feel good and then
122. 25:56you know other people were just making cartoon characters that didn't look anything like them and it was kind of
123. 26:01all over the place which was cool um but it's it's fascinating we're we're I can't I I I I've been talking about this for the
124. 26:16past two weeks and this was even before new voice came out advanced voice came out that I can't shake this weird feeling
125. 26:32like everything's about to change long time ago yeah I got I got the keyboard cover it's on my keyboard so thank you
126. 26:44um that everything's about to change that that these tools are we're we're in a the the metaphor we came up with
127. 26:52Friday someone else in here came up with it that oh okay I I learned something today what tools were you finding best
128. 27:07oh see here's the problem with the with the video Avatar stuff hey hey genen is generally the best but they're all
129. 27:14expensive they're all expensive and and there's not really good free ones and the the free ones are shitty and the
130. 27:21even the the free versions of the paid ones are shitty and even the paid versions of them are that are expensive
131. 27:29are not great but I would say hey Jen's probably the best um Synthesia is okay hedra is pretty good um D- ID is pretty good but there's just
132. 27:45there's not a good there here's here's my here's my thought on on the the Avatar stuff learning it now means you're way ahead of the game
133. 27:58cuz the tools aren't really ready for prime time but if you sort of figure out how you want to use them and and what
134. 28:06you want to do now when the tools are ready you'll be there right so um I would say doing anything with avatars
135. 28:14right now with with visual avatars and synthesized voice of yours is is extra credit work yeah desks Toops may go away just
136. 28:24saying yeah you can talk and soon look through oops look through glasses yeah desktops may go away I mean I think I
137. 28:37think I don't think they go away I just think they become glasses become another form factor voice becomes another form factor
138. 28:46um there may be some other handheld device that's not a phone but I can't imagine it right now like having you know owning one of those guys
139. 28:58like it's cool and if it were faster and had advanced voice in it it would be really cool that's a rabbit R1 by the way
140. 29:08um at some point I'm just like can I just make a call on this and then you got a phone um okay have you guys played around with
141. 29:23notebook LM uh I knew about it but today was the first day I started using it yeah it's pretty crazy isn't it gritty
142. 29:29pretty crazy you mentioned something about Friday okay so I'm going to I'm going to circle some wagons here so
143. 29:36first of all if you're in Florida or Tennessee or Western North Carolina or anywhere that's been hit by the floods
144. 29:43my thoughts are out to you I hope everything's okay um a lot of people are in a lot of Devastation right now so um
145. 29:51that really sucks and I'm really sorry about that so if you're in any of those regions and if you're caught up in any
146. 29:56of that or your family is I'm sending my best um one of the areas in North is it North Carolina or Tennessee
147. 30:20wait what's the town is it it's the town next to Asheville right yeah Asheville gotad devastated my wife's an artist and the
148. 30:30the the AR a lot of the artists here in Denver have friends in Asheville the Asheville Asheville just got [ __ ]
149. 30:37decimated all the roads in and out are cut off it's it's a [ __ ] mess Spruce that's right Spruce Creek or Spruce Spruce
150. 30:46something so the town next to Asheville this is going to sound [ __ ] weird
151. 31:04microchips like the ones that are used in the gpus are so precise like we've got it down to like billionth of a
152. 31:19meter electronic Pathways they have to be so pure they have to be 11 decimal pure like 99.99999 11 times pure and that ends up being like a
153. 31:34single molecule in a billion molecules or something like that like it's some ridiculous [ __ ] amount of like it's
154. 31:41got to be incredibly incredibly pure in that town in North Carolina there's a quartz mine and what they make in that quartz
155. 31:55mine is these crucibles and it like I couldn't believe that I thought I thought what what they made in that in that mine was like the
156. 32:05stuff that made the the the Silicon Wafers themselves it's not so they they create this stuff called Proto silica that is this highly
157. 32:16pure silica like nine steps removed and then they they take these quartz um crucibles that come out of
158. 32:28this one mine in this one town in North Carolina nowhere else in the world is the quartz this pure and then they basically put Proto
159. 32:41silica in it heat it up spin it and then they put like a whatever some sort of wire or something and and like the vapor
160. 32:51makes like this cotton candy kind of cone of pure silica like a a nugget that they they then cut your slices that make your
161. 33:03chips that mine for that quartz that they make all of our chips from is underwater so I assume that means all of
162. 33:14the control systems and all of the Machinery is also underwater there are in the supply chain of getting like
163. 33:24high Precision chips there are multiple points of failure where there's there's a single supplier in the supply chain
164. 33:34that's they're the only one that can supply it right it's amsd asmd or whatever the [ __ ] they're called out of Taiwan manufactures the
165. 33:44boards right or no they manufacture the chips the chips are designed here but they're manufactured over there there's
166. 33:52another part of the chip that there's a single supplier in all of the world that supplies that part of it so if that go
167. 33:57goes down we're screwed apparently this quartz Crucible is the only place in the world that is pure enough to do that like I
168. 34:09don't know how that's possible but it is apparently it is like that's the deal but like we're we're at such a
169. 34:16level of precision with all this [ __ ] that that's that's the reality of it so let's hope that that gets itself
170. 34:24worked out because basically if anything in that Supply chain stops All Electronics stop all new iPhones all new vision Pros all
171. 34:40new gpus all new tpus all of it just stops so hopefully that doesn't happen and then I saw something else
172. 34:49that was talking about a crucible so and then Friday so this idea of a crucible here's here here's where I feel we are with AI right
173. 35:01now I feel like 2023 and the first half of 2024 we had this Crucible and we know we've got to smelt some metal right
174. 35:12we're going to make some some whatever we're going to make some cool alloy of Brilliance and so we we throw some chat
175. 35:23GPT in it and we throw some mid journey in it we throw some puno in it we've got all these individual tools and The
176. 35:30Crucible is heating up and it's kind of red hot and we put our things in there and we can look in and we can still see
177. 35:36the little piece parts and then we can see the this thing getting white hot and then we look in and the bottom is the
178. 35:43bottoms of these things are starting to melt but you can still see your chat GPT in there you can still see your mid journey
179. 35:50and and if you've ever watch that smelting process it's like there's objects objects objects and then all of
180. 35:56a sudden it's just like bloop and now it's all just molten metal I feel like we're in the transition right
181. 36:06now between being able to think about and manage discrete tools okay I'm going to use this tool for this and I'm going
182. 36:14to use that tool for that and and there's only two good image tools so I'll I'll use the one that I like
183. 36:22best well it's not like that anymore it's like there there's there's so much going on there's so much swirling around in The
184. 36:30Crucible and they're all kind of mixing together where like there are six or seven large language models that are
185. 36:43plausible to use for any given problem like they're really good and then some of them each have this extra thing about
186. 36:51them and same with the image tools and now some of the image tools are doing video and now some of the video tools are doing fancy video
187. 36:58and cutting deals with Lion's gate and now we've got 01 inside chat gbt that's not really the new model it's
188. 37:07a different model right it's like you've got 40 which is 40 four Omni you still have four which is this 1.8 trillion
189. 37:17parameter model if you want to still go play with that still super valuable and then they add this 01 thing that is
190. 37:25reasoning so even within Chad GPT there's just this chaos and so I just feel like we're we're sort of looking in this Crucible
191. 37:34trying to process it like we have for a year and a half of like okay there's that tool and that tool and oh [ __ ]
192. 37:40where are the wait what are the where do I even look anymore so that's that's the metaphor that that came to me I don't know what
193. 37:48to do with it right now but I think if I think about why have I been like in this weird Funk and this weird I don't know
194. 37:56where to focus I don't know what to talk about it's it's because we're in this Lial state cross propagation yes papa JJ we
195. 38:07are pro cross propagating up a storm cam kaken I had a simultaneous conversation with three different ones at the same
196. 38:15time today was wild holy crap that's kind of cool which ones did you use did you did you use voice with them
197. 38:31Iran rough or Iran Ruff exactly it's because the world leadership is burning through all of our resources and the world's leadership
198. 38:41plan for the future is to wreck it no I well I mean that's a whole separate thing that's not what I'm talking
199. 38:48about what I'm talking about is the tools are getting so good that there there there used to be single points of focus that we could
200. 38:57look at at and I just don't feel there is anymore I feel like everything's blurring and I would say it's the
201. 39:04opposite of world leadership trying to [ __ ] everything up I feel like some of this AI stuff is succeeding in spite of world
202. 39:14leadership although Gavin Nome did just veto the California bill which would have really [ __ ] up the op Source
203. 39:21community and he basically said we've got to we're California and if we're not in aing on AI if if we over regulate
204. 39:30this thing and lock this [ __ ] down too soon it it it ain't going to be good not only for California but for America and
205. 39:41I'll give you a really specific example of it the new advanced voice is not available in Europe because it's illegal in Europe
206. 39:57and it's it's funny I didn't I didn't antici I so when I was in Washington DC two weeks ago one of the points that I
207. 40:06was making was be careful not to legislate based on today's technology because this stuff is moving so fast
208. 40:14that by the time the legislation turns into law it may be obsolete so in the European AI Act is a clause that when I read it I
209. 40:26thought yeah that makes good good sense and what it basically said is it's illegal for a company to deploy A system that can
210. 40:38analyze the emotional content of an employees interactions and you're like okay that sounds like sci-fi but yeah I can see
211. 40:48how they could do that and that's probably a good safety thing right well the way advanced voice works is
212. 41:02that it's a multimodal model that understands audio so with the old version of voice when you would talk there was a large
213. 41:16language model that would take your talking and convert it to text and then it would send that text to chat GPT chat
214. 41:24GPT would answer and it would take that text and convert it back to audio and then say it to you that's why there was
215. 41:30a 3se second delay you'll notice with advanced voice it's really fast and responding why is that because when you
216. 41:38talk you're talking directly into the model that understands audio so it understands the words you're saying and it understands the emotions
217. 41:51in your voice that's illegal in Europe right now and it's you know what the intent was if there's a system that's going to exploit
218. 42:08workers right by doing their things we can't use that but that's a very specific use case the way they wrote the
219. 42:15law though is so broad that it captures some new remarkable technology that people in Europe should be able to have access to but they don't
220. 42:28and that's exactly what the major flaw of the Colorado bill was that's what the major flaws in the California Bill were
221. 42:35is that these legislators are just trying to get stuff done first rather than really looking at What's Happening Here how fast stuff is
222. 42:44moving things like that so crazy all right when do you go back I don't know who that's for I use gp01 voice Pi voice and Claude
223. 42:58V2 oh V to text and text to voice on my iPhone wearing meta a ey glasses oh that's so cool cam so so here's a question for you Cam
224. 43:10um one of the things I'm really intrigued by and I'm man I'm I'm totally Blown Away with the new with the new voice the the advanced
225. 43:19voice is personalities of large language models like can could you describe the like what were your insights in talking
226. 43:28to the three models like do they have different personalities or are they better at one thing than the other that's really
227. 43:35fascinating Kyle when do you go back to DC I don't know whenever I mean there was no the the trip that we were on was not really a
228. 43:44oops there it was not really a we weren't there talking about any specific legislation it was like a relationship building trip so
229. 43:56um so probably if something pops up like the big legislative season starts again like right now everyone's worried about
230. 44:03the election and then you go into the lame duck and so starting at the top end of the new year I bet there's going to
231. 44:10be a rash of state byst state legislation and there's going to be you know continued inaction from the
232. 44:20feds and so there's probably going to be a lot of activity it my guess is the activity is not going to be in D but
233. 44:27it's going to be in States and in fact I think Florida's Florida's one that's probably up next from what I
234. 44:37understand any advice going to an anyone going to advise AI Conference next week in Vegas gritty wisdom is going to be in

287. 53:47oops on GPT chat gbt um I think I saw that I don't remember I don't call what the problem
288. 54:01was like people are trying to hack them they there's some I mean the you mean the problem meaning it's not connected
289. 54:07to the internet and you can't do all the other fancy [ __ ] if that's the problem that's just temporary they'll fix
290. 54:16that oan is kind of bad at program programming not going to lie it's funny I just heard someone say just the
291. 54:22opposite P you also can't upload files and that's just pointless I totally agree with that the fact that you can't
292. 54:29upload files to it stupid Papa JJ not long ago it was doing great but now yeah exactly the voice says it can't answer
293. 54:39questions due to community guidelines yep so okay so here's the thing about advanced voice it is Advanced because it's
294. 54:51Advanced it could do things like umone own someone's Voice using 3 seconds of video so they locked that down so it
295. 55:00can't do that that's why they only give you nine voices to choose from um if it's connected to the internet or if
296. 55:07it's connected to actions it you might be able to talk it into doing something they don't want you to allow it to do or
297. 55:14they don't want it to do right they don't want it to do bad things so the the voice that was released is going to
298. 55:22be the most lock down version that they feel safe putting in the world so it's going to be pretty shitty what I can tell you right now is

325. 1:00:09stuff and they're going to train a custom runway model on it on all of their content they're going to initially use it as a storyboarding
326. 1:00:20tool and then if it's good enough maybe they'll start using it and select pickup scenes and where they need to extend a
327. 1:00:28scene a little bit they'll start using it in Productions tangentially then they're going to start using it good for real like making
328. 1:00:38movies with it and then they're probably just going to license it out to the world probably initially to high-end production
329. 1:00:49companies and then ultimately probably to all of us is my guess if they're smart because again the future if I look out in the future of
330. 1:01:02content you think about what these tools are doing they are they're going to create infinitely personalized
331. 1:01:10content so everyone is going to be able to create their own movie with their own storyline with their own favorite actors in
332. 1:01:18it that may have an audience of one so you're not going to be able to monetize that but if you monetize that on the
333. 1:01:29generation of it on the creation of it because you're creating it from your model from your data and you get five
334. 1:01:38bucks every time someone makes a feature film with your data well then that sounds like a business so that's where I
335. 1:01:44think that goes long term that might be 10 years down the road but if I were if I were firmly in that
336. 1:01:52business that's where I'd be placing my bets cuz I just think I mean I mean just digging your heels in and going AI is
337. 1:02:03evil we should never use it it's just not realistic Justine baitman might be right but it's just not realistic what does that training look
338. 1:02:16like I have no idea like I don't know how I don't know how Runway is trained I I mean I assume like everything else is trained if you're
339. 1:02:25training images you get a bunch of images you have people tag them or you have AIS tag them right in this image

341. 1:02:43soccer and you tag all that that goes into the embedding model and it somehow correlates all the [ __ ] in the Laton
342. 1:02:53space so I assume they do the same [ __ ] with video right they have the AI categorize it tag it maybe P knows I don't know I honestly don't
343. 1:03:05know man if only there was a way we could get this info in an easy to digest manner oh man there are always some
344. 1:03:15people who are Star Struck and want their favorites yeah that's just people are lazy our daughter is in college
345. 1:03:22studying to be an actress we are keeping our eye on the whole Space to be ready for it yeah I have a degree in
346. 1:03:30acting so so I've written seven screenplays I know the world quite well um you know it's funny if if she's if she's going to school for
347. 1:03:42acting for stage I think she's probably in better shape than if she's going studying for film um I think film film is going to get seriously
348. 1:04:02disrupted what what I would what I would encourage her to do is not to get too myopic on just acting like go broad learn different
349. 1:04:16disciplines especially if she's if she's wanting to do film learn directing learn cinematography learn lighting learn

353. 1:05:00leader is the clear leader in terms of if you want to synthesize your own voice there's a there's a couple other
354. 1:05:10others out there that are claiming to be like voiceover specific but from what I can gather they're just using 11 Labs on
355. 1:05:17the back end and they're putting some fancy features on the front end but if you haven't seen the new chat GPT voice
356. 1:05:25it's a [ __ ] voice actor so let's let's talk to Quinn for a second oh great advice she wants to be a
357. 1:05:36director too okay wait hang on before we talk to Quinn okay if she wants to be a director too if she's in this
358. 1:05:43business what's your name oh oh I'm Weaver oh good down in Texas okay so here's the deal if your daughters like

367. 1:07:01music videos for them for free and just start using these tools she should do everything she can to get in the Creator

369. 1:07:17think he told me about it there's a new company that's trying to become like the new Netflix of AI generated
370. 1:07:27content all of these companies that are that are just young little startups right now trying to make media Empires out of AI
371. 1:07:38generated content some of them are going to grow up and they are going to become the next Netflix they are going to
372. 1:07:44become the next Paramount Pictures I like she should be on that right [ __ ] now I don't give a [ __ ]
373. 1:07:52what they're teaching her in college she should take anything anal she's learning about cinematography or acting or
374. 1:07:58whatever and just apply that to these tools learn both learn the craft at school and on nights and weekends she should be
375. 1:08:08burying herself in this [ __ ] because I'll tell you what as a parent of a hopeful actor your your concerns are Justified
376. 1:08:21no she's not going to work it's hard it's like [ __ ] hard um it's life in the artarts right if she is AI literate and here's the other
377. 1:08:31thing about Ai and being creative she can make pieces she'll have a portfolio she can do the voice acting for
378. 1:08:40them and then she can say I made this I wrote the story I I you know did all the visuals I edited it together I did all the music in sunno I
379. 1:08:53did she'll get hired because of that like what's cool about that is like my backup job was desktop publishing like the closest that got to
380. 1:09:08acting was I could make our flyers and our postcards for our stupid plays we put [Laughter] on she'll be able to work but she got to
381. 1:09:21pounce on that [ __ ] now cuz it is it is moving it's moving fast so anyway all right I have a black and white pick I
382. 1:09:35want to turn into a short video what's the best site uh I would say use um I mean mid joury is the best you can
383. 1:09:50use that image as a as a style reference or as a Content reference as a picture reference um you can also try putting it in chat
384. 1:10:03GPT and just have it you know describe what you want based on that image and that won't be as good um some of the new
385. 1:10:19flux image models you can you can train a model on on an image really quickly but they're they're more complicated
386. 1:10:31um I would just say those those just start with start with Runway and Dolly and see see how far you get and then basically
387. 1:10:40just take if you get an image out of mid Journey that you like just take it over to Runway or take it over to cling Ai
388. 1:10:47and just make videos with it you'll see Deco here yeah Deco here is pretty good I on China for something like that all

439. 1:18:05careers out of playing we both have absolutely I love play as part of the process is important because it keeps
440. 1:18:13changing thinking about how I make imagery Now versus a year and a half ago or two years ago using generative AI
441. 1:18:19tools is completely different play first is why we're here we're here to play with AI and generative tools I'm feeling
442. 1:18:25increasingly like one of my big epiphanies about what's different now is that because AI is going to democratize skills and anyone can do
443. 1:18:39anything why people get hired is about to shift it's going to be oh because I like the way you work I know that you're
444. 1:18:45willing to take a stand on what you believe in creatively and and being part of a community like the salon is actually going to be key
445. 1:18:55to people working in the future so there's a serious part of the salon that didn't hit me until probably a year and
446. 1:19:01a half in where I was like oh this is actually really important the whole Community aspect of yes I did when we
447. 1:19:08started to see some really incredible things happening from people who met in the salon right mindfully create is up
448. 1:19:15the next step and we create things we make things and that comes out of the play that's a really important next step
449. 1:19:20for the salon and I think that starts to really Define who we are because AI is such a buzzword a lot of times people
450. 1:19:27will be like oh I need to learn AI or I want to use AI or I want to use chat GPT or how can you make money with chat GPT
451. 1:19:33they're talking about the tool what mindfully create says is go over here and play with a bunch of things learn
452. 1:19:40what's possible and then rather than saying I want to do something with Cat gbt Say Hey I want to do something for
453. 1:19:47my business or I want to do something for an art project and and then based on what you want to do then can figure out
454. 1:19:53what tools to use we have artists musicians we have scientists we have Engineers right teachers coming from all
455. 1:20:00these different places offering their perspective yeah what we can create becomes much more inspiring and starting
456. 1:20:07to break down like the silos that we've all been working in that frankly I think are starting to feel very tired right
457. 1:20:15yeah exactly and that takes us to the the third track of of AI literacy which is generously lead because AI is changing so fast and it's so
458. 1:20:24comprehensive and Broad you can't possibly know everything and what what I realized was when I ask someone for help
459. 1:20:31it gives them the opportunity to lead so it is leadership creating the space for leadership right for someone else to
460. 1:20:38lead and yeah that idea is important and and it's that was inspired out of how people already behaved in the salon so I
461. 1:20:45hope that gives you some good context about the salon and why we do what we do the next step after listening to us

536. 1:33:08podcasts and and blog posts and anything that's got multimedia assets that are a part of it so it's got lots of stuff in
537. 1:33:16there how well it's all tagged I don't know they stole everything well I I mean so I understand the sentiment that they stole
538. 1:33:31everything um here's my here's my take on that if they had asked per permission from any single copyright holders before
539. 1:33:46doing what they did we would not have chat GPT we would not have mid Journey we would not have know we wouldn't have any of
540. 1:33:56it there's a point at which if if I steal 8 songs from One band and then I go sell those eight songs from that one band that's
541. 1:34:10theft if I go sample a thousand songs from 10 bands and I go sell 10 of them that's theft there's a point at which there's
542. 1:34:23so much much data in there it starts to become like the library or like museums where there's so much of humanity and
543. 1:34:31there's so much of it in there any single artist any single song is like a grain of sand on a beach like yeah you
544. 1:34:38could probably go find that grain of sand on the beach and say ah see this was trained on this thing and you didn't
545. 1:34:44compensate me for it but it is it is so diluted with all of the other [ __ ] that it's been trained on and as as Sam Alman
546. 1:34:53says like with the New York Times making this argument he would be fine taking the New York Times out of the training data he
547. 1:35:01said there's a point at which if you're trying to learn physics and you read four physics books great you've got all
548. 1:35:09those ideas in your head if you read 400 probably not necessary if you read 2,000 it's Overkill and there's overlap across
549. 1:35:17all of them so you know that's part of it there there's absolutely an AR argument for the greater good of
550. 1:35:25humanity here where individual artists um you know take a backseat to that larger idea now do I think it's right

552. 1:35:49so then the question becomes well how do we use it right and it's you know I also feel like the way this thing learns is
553. 1:35:57not it's not copying and pasting data it learns kind of like we learn like if you go to school and all you study is winon

558. 1:36:47philosophy independent of whether or not it was right or wrong these tools exist and being successful in the future in my
559. 1:36:57opinion is going to require you to be to be up to speed on what these tools can do the vast vast majority of llm data
560. 1:37:12comes from open- Source data sets or internal data yep yep yeah I know it yeah exactly it like just think of all
561. 1:37:21the [ __ ] that's on the internet you know how much of that is actually you know proprietary copywritten data small small um you
562. 1:37:38know like I I don't have a good answer like I don't have a good like I'm not justifying I'm not justifying their
563. 1:37:50technique and I don't think there's another way they could have done it I don't think they could have done this
564. 1:37:57above board no one would have given them a permission but it's done it's here it's like you're going to not use it out of principle well
565. 1:38:13okay I mean you can go back to any other technology right you could go back to the invention of the steam engine in the
566. 1:38:25tractor and you could say Hey you know farming with with a horse and and feeling the the Earth underneath the
567. 1:38:32plow being pulled by a horse that's the only way to farm cuz I can feel rocks and I can feel if if my ground has gone
568. 1:38:40salow and I can I can feel you know moisture and I you know I can see the weeds and I can see what's going on and
569. 1:38:47you know if if you replace that with a steam engine the farming's not going to be as good and I'm not going to I'm not
570. 1:38:54going to do that and those Farmers probably existed for some time and then eventually right we have industrial
571. 1:39:04Farms that are about as far from that as possible I don't know if you've seen there's a new there's a new [ __ ]

581. 1:40:46bucket and the more they throw in the better they get we're now at the point where we're we're kind of tapping out on
582. 1:40:57the amount of data available to train them on and we're starting to create our own our new our own new synthetic data to train them
583. 1:41:07on we're probably within I don't know 5 years maybe less maybe more of having captured all of the output of all all of
584. 1:41:24humanity throughout history and we get to tap into that right so it's like why do museums exist why do libraries exist because we're
585. 1:41:36capturing the output of humanity so that future Humanity can benefit from it we're on the cusp we all get to play
586. 1:41:46with because of the Transformer because of big bets like [ __ ] it let's just go grab as much data as we can and train it
587. 1:41:53and we'll deal with the legal ramifications later because of that we individuals and companies and entrepreneurs are on the
588. 1:42:04cusp of being able to tap into all of humanity from all of history instantly like that's [ __ ]
589. 1:42:19insane I mean even if we're at 60% or 30% of all of the output of all of humanity in GPT 4 and then maybe we're
590. 1:42:28at 40% in GPT 5 and then we're at 60% in GPT 6 and by the time we get to gpt7 or8 all of humanity all of the output of all
591. 1:42:39of humanity is at our fingertips instantly on our little devices what a [ __ ] time to be alive and so as much as I understand the
592. 1:42:51frustration of they stole my [ __ ] in the bigger scheme of things [ __ ] you know I think about model collapse a lot you can see it on
593. 1:43:05Facebook meme accounts yeah although you should watch who's that Barbara b60 go watch David Shapiro's got a video that he put out
594. 1:43:16um he put out about three weeks ago where he he figures out how they how they're going to synthesize data and he
595. 1:43:27and he talks about model collapse and synthetic data and he talks about I forget how he calls it he calls
596. 1:43:35it um model activation that there's a way that you can get chat GPT to just vomit out a bunch of [ __ ] so so you
597. 1:43:43basically say hey chat GPT tell me everything you know about um I don't know uh L linen weaving and it'll just vomit out a bunch
598. 1:43:56of [ __ ] right and and so you you get it barfing out all this stuff and and when it barfs out all that stuff it it
599. 1:44:04triggers the model to go find all the other areas where it knows anything about linen weaving and then there's a
600. 1:44:10second model that looks at what it barfed out and it analyzes it and categorizes it and organizes it and then
601. 1:44:16there's a third model that does you know some tighter categor categories categorization of that um and puts and
602. 1:44:26puts that feeds that into a training set like really well organized you know U really valuable so he he talks about
603. 1:44:38that much more articulately than than I did right there but it sounds like they've kind of cracked the model
604. 1:44:44collapse risk with how he was talking about that so that's worth watching um I worry about it too um um but I think
605. 1:44:54that the data scientists are aware that a lot of the content being generated right now is absolute horeshit and they shouldn't train on the
606. 1:45:04horeshit because it's going to smell shitty soon so I think they're aware of it but I don't [ __ ] know I ain't one of them all
607. 1:45:21right it's the streetlight Effect one major investment shines light on many yeah I may be na naive but I think that
608. 1:45:29there will be more significant good things relative to bad things I absolutely feel the same way or I wouldn't be doing this um I also feel
609. 1:45:40Corey that that this community that us just figuring out how to use these things how to do good with these things
610. 1:45:48how to make art with these things how to be self-expressed with these things how to have your daughter in acting school

628. 1:49:01here this is the 1.8 trillion parameter mixture of experts model that is the thing that kind of broke the internet
629. 1:49:09and made people realize holy [ __ ] this you know the this these large language models are are incredibly powerful and
630. 1:49:16useful so this is still very useful if if you're stumping these other ones they're not giving you what you want it's worth trying that one
631. 1:49:23um GPT 40 mini is just faster you can ignore that one in my opinion um but the main models here 4 think of 40 is like
632. 1:49:32your Ford Taurus that you drive down to the grocery store and 01 previews like a a GT3 race car that you can only race on
633. 1:49:43the track and then the 01 mini is like a a Mini Cooper that's been souped up do you see where the the video where

638. 1:50:20reasoning models and here's how chat GPT has done that or how open AI has done that they're using what's called Chain of Thought prompting
639. 1:50:31so quite simply Chain of Thought prompting is um prompt in steps right instead of saying hey give me everything
640. 1:50:40in one big prompt you're like um you know uh I'm going to describe my business to you and then I want you to
641. 1:50:49um explain my business back to me so I so I can understand that you understand it now write me a marketing plan now
642. 1:50:58write me a creative brief now write me some copy right so so you do things in sequence and and you prompt what what 01
643. 1:51:06preview and 01 mini do is they do all of that for you in the background so they call it thinking but what it's actually
644. 1:51:12doing is prompting itself and then it's taking the output of one prompt and using that for the next prompt and then
645. 1:51:18giving itself a new prompt and it it'll do that some amount of steps um GPT 40 is just like you give it a
646. 1:51:26prompt it gives you an answer it's just vomiting out tokens it's not really aware of what it did the Chain of
647. 1:51:31Thought reasoning it's kind of looking at what it created and then building upon that and that's why it's gotten
648. 1:51:37better they've gotten 01 preview to essentially perform as well as phds in certain categories so it's it's quite

656. 1:53:09and technologists that's an interesting idea right hang out with geeks and writers and yeah those those will become
657. 1:53:17your collaborators for your projects build a strong Professional Network that's what no acting school teach es
658. 1:53:23building strong professional networks the business of the business is never taught in school be adaptable and
659. 1:53:29open-minded ethical considerations audience engagement continuous learning they gave us this is pretty crappy
