352. 1:08:00marketing and branding and Communications open AI is a research lab and they didn't expect that their little
353. 1:08:10experiment called it wasn't even an experiment their little proof of concept called chat GPT they didn't think it was
354. 1:08:16going to be all that popular and then a 100 million people decided to use it in the first six weeks and it kind of
355. 1:08:21changed what they had to do so we're going to give them a little bit of Grace for shitty branding but Gemini and Bard
356. 1:08:29Google has got a [ __ ] situation going on right now grock and grock have a situation going like everyone right now
357. 1:08:37the The Branding is just a [ __ ] disaster so just ignore all that does co-pilot make logos yes it does it's so
358. 1:08:45the the image generation engine behind Microsoft co-pilot is Dolly 3 it's the same engine that's in um chat
359. 1:08:55GPT it's just it doesn't do horizontal and vertical it just does Square um but it's the same engine so it's really good
360. 1:09:04okay let me let me try to unpack this for you using a very sophisticated metaphor HH it's a [Laughter]
361. 1:09:19box some of you are new here you don't know this I look like just a chubby dude in a t-shirt this looks like just a shitty
362. 1:09:33home office this is a $2 million TV Production Studio unbelievable we could come up with really sophisticated computer Graphics that
363. 1:09:48explain how all this [ __ ] works but I've decided not to do that cuz I want it to seem authentic all right so I'm going to
364. 1:09:56go with the Box instead of fancy computer Graphics even though we could totally do that okay so the difference between GPT
365. 1:10:054 chat GPT and gpts oh and co-pilot and and Google Gemini has their version of this meta's llama 2 models
366. 1:10:18that are now out in the open source world have their version of this it's it's all just a [ __ ] complicated
367. 1:10:25disaster because we're in this weird transition period so for the past 30 or 40 years scientists and researchers and
368. 1:10:34mathematicians have been figuring this [ __ ] out and by this [ __ ] I mean Ai and machine learning in 2017 Google invents this
369. 1:10:44thing called the Transformer which is the T in GPT generative pre-trained Transformer that's the TNG GPT they invented that in7
370. 1:10:5417 and for the next 6 years scientists and researchers were making models and they were training models and they were
371. 1:11:03smashing massive amounts of data into this machine learning stuff and and open AI created gpt1 in 2018 gpt2 in 2020 gpt3 or No gbt 3 in
372. 1:11:202020 so I guess two in 18 or 19 so GPT or yeah gpt3 the model was available in 2020 chat gbt came out two years later
373. 1:11:35November 30th 2022 that was the first time that us mere mortals got to play with this stuff without having to really geek out we
374. 1:11:48could just go to chat. open.com stick in words and [ __ ] came out so we're in a transition period where the engineers scientists and
375. 1:12:00mathematicians are doing The Branding and so it's a little confusing just hang in there we because we got the box okay
376. 1:12:08this is gp4 now what's GPT for it's a box and if you open it up what's in it there's nothing in it the p in GPT
377. 1:12:17stands for pre-trained what's it been pre-trained on so so basically little history lesson in Olden timey days like you know 2021
378. 1:12:272022 if you wanted to do something with machine learning you had to go get your own data and you'd get your data and
379. 1:12:34you'd stick it in there embedding things and you'd make your Laten space and you'd go make magic [ __ ] happen with your
380. 1:12:42data what the Transformer allowed was companies like open AI to to take massive amounts of data and and train
381. 1:12:52the machine learning models on it so what open AI decided to do and they seem to have done it better than anyone else
382. 1:12:58right now is they went out and they got as much of the public internet as they could and you know tagged it did
383. 1:13:04whatever they had to do to get it in the format so that the Transformer could injust it all and put it into its model
384. 1:13:12and so basically what they did was they just took as much of the public internet as they could and they sort of jammed it
385. 1:13:18in the Box okay and they sealed it up and for a while it was uh the latest information it had was September
386. 1:13:272021 and then in this past year they kind of opened it up and they jammed some more [ __ ] in it and so now it's it's
387. 1:13:35um its latest information is April of 2023 so think as much of the public internet as open AI could get their hands on in the past six
388. 1:13:49years um is jammed into this box up to April 2023 that's gp4 this is gp4 and then sitting on top of it are things called apis application
389. 1:14:00programming interfaces where you can ask it to do something and it will spit back out tokens and you can turn those tokens
390. 1:14:07into words and hand them to people okay now chat gbt is an app an application it's a computer program that opena I wrote that
391. 1:14:18sits on top of this gp4 is the model chat GPT is the applic then wait I got to oh no where's my other box hang on people we've got we've
392. 1:14:29got an issue where's my other box I'm going to have to use the different box damn it okay it'll be better okay so this is open ai's chat
393. 1:14:42GPT this is Microsoft's co-pilot used to be called uh Bing chat and and when they launched it it was really good these two things were
394. 1:14:53were really good they were good and they were powerful and then Kevin Roose the technology reporter from The New York Times used Bing
395. 1:15:04chat and he said well let me just really kick the tires on this thing so he um um he spent four hours with it asking it
396. 1:15:15all sorts of questions and got it to reveal that its name was Sydney and turns out she kind of snapped and she
397. 1:15:22told Kevin Roose that she loved him and he should leave his wife for her and so Kevin Rose took a screenshot of that
398. 1:15:34and sent it to his editors and they put it on the cover of the New York Times that that Microsoft's swell new chat
399. 1:15:43engine told him he should leave his wife that made the cover of the New York Times so what did Microsoft do well their lawyers came
400. 1:15:52along and and [Applause] they laomiz Sydney so so now this is chat GPT and this is Sydney
401. 1:16:08she is but a shell of herself so this is why um Microsoft's chat GPT 4 clone they're both calling the same underlying model but this is
402. 1:16:20just not as good all right now what's a GPT M okay new prop a GPT is a customized um personalized version of
403. 1:16:36chat gbt that's like a little it's like a little hermetically sealed nugget and what's amazing about gpts is that you
404. 1:16:44can train them on your own data so you can actually upload let's say you wrote let's say you use chat GPT to write a
405. 1:16:50book and then you publish that book on on you know Amazon and then you want to make a GPT about your book you can do
406. 1:16:58that you can say I want to make a GPT where people can interact with my book interactively um uh Jim Ross in here who
407. 1:17:06who manages Self Storage groups did that and he uploaded his book into this GPT and people can use the GPT uh to ask questions about that
408. 1:17:16business so anyway that's it so gp4 chat GPT lots and lots of little gpts that are like little subsets of that make
409. 1:17:26sense all right that's the Box thing it I know I know it could listen we could have spent $15 million coming
410. 1:17:37up with a graphics package for that but I chose not to for you cuz it's more authentic and isn't authenticity what it's all about right

523. 1:34:27in general is start playing just go play then start solving problems solve problems for other people solve problems
