4:46 best practices for prompt engineering
4:49 with open ai's API now
4:54 this is for developers but
4:58 um
4:59 the the things that they include in here
5:01 are just things that you can use to get
5:03 better
5:04 so use the latest model so in in that
5:07 case if it's chat gbt use gpt4
5:10 put instructions at the beginning of the
5:13 prompt and use hashtags or quotes to
5:16 separate the instruction from the
5:18 context I don't quite know what that
5:21 means be specific descriptive and as
5:24 detailed as possible about the desired
5:26 context outcome length format style so
5:30 so that one's really important so
5:34 like one of the things that that Google
5:38 search has trained us over the past
5:40 couple of decades is to be really
5:41 concise in what you write because if you
5:44 wrote too many words it would get
5:45 garbled and then you'd get a bunch of
5:46 [ __ ] you didn't want
5:48 chat apt is kind of the opposite and
5:51 it's a lot more like you're having a
5:54 collaborative conversation with a really
5:56 smart intern than it than it is like a
5:58 search engine like an answer engine
6:01 so
6:02 if you tell it let's so oh like like the
6:05 the thing that made the biggest
6:07 difference for me is you actually kind
6:08 of shift your mindset and you start
6:10 talking to it this is gonna sound weird
6:12 and creepy but you start talking to it
6:14 like it's a person you're like hey I
6:16 have an idea to do this thing and here's
6:19 my ideas on it and I'm I I think I'm
6:21 gonna do some blog posts and you know I
6:25 want to do things that are going to get
6:26 me engagement in social media and you
6:29 know here's some ideas and maybe even
6:31 here's a blog post that I wrote so can
6:33 you copy my style and you know give me
6:37 10 blog post ideas you know on these
6:40 topics
6:42 um and it'll spit it out and then you
6:45 can say oh I like number seven can you
6:46 write me a blog post in number seven
6:48 using my style and it will do that
6:52 um so so be really specific
6:54 um and and have it be a conversation
6:56 what else do they say articulate the
6:58 desired output format through examples
7:01 so you can copy and paste it's really
7:03 good at copying
7:05 you could take a little chunk of code or
7:07 you could take how you I've done this
7:09 before with writing tweets you can take
7:11 how you've written a tweet and then say
7:13 you know write me 10 tweets on this
7:16 topic following this format and tone and
7:19 it will do it really really well
7:21 um what else do they say here start with
7:24 zero shot then few shot so zero shot
7:27 just basically means you're just putting
7:29 in a prompt few shot means you're going
7:31 to put in some examples and then they
7:33 give you examples here
7:36 um reduce fluffy and imprecise
7:39 descriptions so so don't just say
7:42 write me a poem about the sky say write
7:45 write me a poem about how the beautiful
7:49 Azure Sky makes me feel
7:53 uh peaceful when the breeze is blowing
7:57 or something like that and and it will
7:59 get much much better
8:01 um instead of just saying what not to do
8:04 tell it what to do
8:06 um anyway so so this document so it's at

8:11 and then it's called just do a search
8:14 for their articles best practices for
8:16 prompt engineering with openai so
8:19 um so that's a good I think there's a
8:21 newer one out than this annual May let's
8:24 see
8:26 so that's a good one the thing that made
8:29 the biggest difference for me was
8:31 shifting out of that mindset of you sort
8:34 of type in a prompt once and you get an
8:37 answer don't do it like that do it like
8:38 an interaction
8:41 I was gonna go with I'm the Brad Pitt of
8:43 chat gbt yeah you can say that I can't
8:47 say that okay okay laughed off this app
8:50 that's why talk about violating
8:52 Community guidelines
8:54 how do I use chat GPT more effectively
8:57 we just did that some comments in the
8:59 live were filtered don't be mean to each
9:00 other don't say nasty [ __ ] but it was
9:03 probably about me not looking like Brad
9:04 Pitt
9:06 um am I deploying any AI so I have so my
9:10 company storybine is a an automated
9:12 video storytelling platform
9:14 we rolled um open ai's whisper into the
9:18 platform to do transcriptions
9:21 and then I've created a number of
9:24 content generators where I create some
9:26 sort of input like a Google form and
9:29 then I'll take the input from that form
9:30 and and incorporate it into some prompts
9:33 send that back to to open Ai and do
9:36 generate like social media content or
9:39 um you know some I
9:41 um I did a Content thing for a
9:44 Consulting organization where
9:47 you state a business problem and then it
9:49 will generate a set of questions that
9:52 you should be asking in a bunch of
9:53 different categories so I'm doing it
9:56 more on the on the using the AI side
9:59 rather than you know training it myself
10:01 and things like that which that's the
10:03 the inflection point that we're at
10:06 November 30th 2022 you know marks a
10:10 bifurcation in the world of AI prior to
10:13 that it was scientists and researchers
10:15 and machine learning people and you know
10:17 there were some developers in there
10:19 um but it but it was largely you know
10:21 the the domain of of the the super Geeks
10:25 the this the really Smart Ones and you
10:28 know post November 30th after chat gbt
10:31 you have a hundred million users
10:34 um we're using chat EPT within six weeks
10:36 I I can't imagine what the numbers are
10:38 now with Bing and with all this other
10:39 stuff and with Bard and you know it's
10:41 got to be hundreds of millions of users
10:43 are now using these tools that
10:47 you know are not scientists and they're
10:49 not researchers they're business people
10:50 and they're entrepreneurs and they're
10:52 teachers and their students and they're
10:53 right so so we are in a different phase
10:56 so the work that I'm doing is is like in
10:58 the post phase
11:00 um I'm taking these tools and figuring
11:02 out how I can do them to amplify my
11:03 business and to amplify my brain and and
11:06 like I've never felt more creative alive
11:09 creatively alive than that I have in the
11:12 past six months
11:14 um this stuff's just absolutely insane
11:17 um I'm losing it I've been walking
11:19 around my house saying you two can make
11:22 money
11:26 I'm just people [ __ ] annoying
11:29 it's like every time I hit one of those
11:30 tick tocks like I can't scroll fast
11:32 enough and I I get that yeah
11:40 and then if you listen to what they
11:42 actually say they're like
11:44 come up with t-shirt ideas okay well I
11:48 could have [ __ ] come up with t-shirt
11:49 ideas without tattoo and then you still
11:52 have to do the marketing do the right
11:54 you know I don't know those people are
11:56 just idiots so like but here's the deal
11:58 like can you make money with chat of
12:01 course you can you can make money with
12:02 Photoshop you can make money with a
12:03 shovel
12:04 how do you make money you solve problems
12:07 right that's what business is right
12:08 business is I've identified a problem
12:12 I think that there's a bunch of people
12:13 out there that have this problem too and
12:15 if I solve it they might pay me for that
12:18 that's business that's how it works and
12:20 so chat GPT is just a tool now it
12:23 happens to be one of the most powerful
12:24 tools in the history of mankind
12:27 that's fun
12:29 um but it's just a tool so so where I
12:32 would suggest you start is with what are
12:35 you good at
12:36 what are you passionate about you know
12:39 have you wanted to write something do
12:40 you want to make people laugh do you
12:42 want to I don't know solve problems in
12:44 your neighborhood with your community
12:45 group with your church
12:47 think about the problem you want to
12:49 solve and then start learning chat GPT
12:51 or start learning mid-journey or
12:53 whatever the thing is that will support
12:54 you in solving that problem but lead
12:56 with the problem you want to solve and
12:58 then figure out how to use these AI
12:59 tools to solve it it'll do two things
13:03 you'll learn AI way better because now
13:06 you've got focus and you're just like
13:07 how do I how do I do this with this oh
13:09 [ __ ] it does that it's odds that's good
13:11 I really could make hey

13:19 doesn't like it either
13:21 all right
13:23 oh now it's drama it's champion
13:27 jab jab all right would you say four has
13:32 gotten better about producing coherent
13:34 long form versus gpt3 sport salad yeah
13:38 four well okay a couple of things if
13:42 you're using bing.com which is gpt4 it
13:45 has been lobotomized by Microsoft
13:47 because of the that a pesky little PR
13:50 issue with the New York Times putting
13:52 putting um the their bot went crazy on
13:55 the New York Times Reporter and told him
13:57 to leave his wife so they kind of
13:59 lobotomized gpt4 so it's not quite as
14:02 good as uh
14:03 as open AI so
14:05 so the gpt4 at chat.openai.com
14:10 is dramatically better at writing than
14:14 GPT 3.5 now
14:16 I still use GPT 3.5 it's way faster if I
14:20 just want to knock something out like
14:21 give me a table comparing this concept
14:24 and that concept and blah blah like you
14:26 type it in it's like there it is
14:29 um but if you want nuanced writing or
14:31 good creative writing things like that
14:34 um it's gpt4 is better the other thing
14:36 is this break
14:38 break your
14:41 rather than thinking about a single
14:44 massive a prompt that generates a mass
14:47 of content break it up into steps break
14:50 it up into sections so like where I'll
14:52 start if I'm doing creative writing is
14:54 I'll often even start with a with a
14:56 story writing framework so I'll say give
14:59 me the top three story writing
15:01 Frameworks for writing a screenplay and
15:03 it'll give Sid field and save the cat
15:06 and it'll come up with these things and
15:08 then I'll say can can you combine the
15:10 hero's journey with save the cat and
15:12 create me a custom story framework and
15:14 it'll do that and I'm like yeah that's
15:16 not quite like I want I want the middle
15:18 of the screenplay to be more like this
15:20 structurally right and then it'll give
15:22 you that and then you can go okay you
15:25 know now I have an idea for for a
15:27 screenplay and and you know here are
15:30 some elements and then you know can you
15:33 suggest some other characters that I
15:35 might include you know other than these
15:36 two main characters and it'll do that
15:38 and then you can say oh that's great and
15:40 here's some plot points can you FL flesh
15:43 out any of these plot points and it'll
15:45 do that and then you can say okay now
15:46 take those characters we talked about
15:48 and take those plot points we talked
15:50 about and throw them into that story
15:51 framework you did and write me a nice
15:53 outline boom it'll knock out a nice nice
15:56 outline and then you can tell it you
15:59 know take point one of that outline and
16:01 you know write me you know an opening
16:04 scene or whatever it might be so so
16:05 break your stuff in up into chunks and
16:08 it gets way way better because as you're
16:10 doing that back and forth with it it's
16:13 it's getting more and more context so
16:15 you're kind of narrowing the world of
16:17 words it's looking at to to serve you
16:21 um in a much more specific way so so it
16:24 tends to get really good but yes gpt4 is
16:26 really really good

17:26 so this is a thing that I wrote called
17:29 The Challenge engine so let me go show
17:30 you what it is first

17:42 so I'm the chief generative officer for
17:46 this organization called content
17:48 Evolution and we created this thing
17:50 called The Challenge engine and it's
17:52 basically just a Google form and it asks
17:54 you your first name your email then your
17:56 business category then share a business
17:58 challenge that you're facing what are
18:01 the force forces driving that change how
18:03 is this challenge impacting your
18:05 business and you know what what results
18:07 would you see if the challenge was
18:09 addressed right so so you give it a
18:11 challenge and then what it responds with
18:15 let me go over to the old Gmail

18:23 here I call them to save the day
18:27 any jet xers in the house
18:29 anyone know who that was
18:31 all right uh um let's go challenge
18:36 engine
18:42 so what's going on we've updated our
18:45 terms of service okay I'm pretty sure I
18:47 just gave away all my privacy to
18:49 Microsoft Okay so so you you answer some
18:53 questions in that form in like 30
18:55 seconds later it sends you back this
18:56 email that that gives you an initial
19:00 kind of uh analysis of what you asked
19:03 for and then in I think it's six
19:06 different categories it gives you three
19:07 questions you should be considering so
19:09 here's strategic considerations here's
19:11 what you should ask be asking yourself
19:13 about your customers your brand
19:15 implications and this is all
19:16 personalized to the challenge that you
19:18 put in
19:20 um so so the the challenge here was the
19:22 quality of your question uh wait you
19:24 asked about
19:26 um I would like to file a patent for an
19:27 invention of mine
19:29 um and then so this asks a bunch of
19:30 questions about the patent
19:33 um you know let's see
19:35 what organizational changes will you
19:38 need to make in order to ensure the
19:40 success of your invention okay so that's
19:42 what the thing does so how does it do
19:45 that
19:46 so you go to zapier and zapier it's kind
19:48 of like a pile of Lego blocks so so each
19:52 one of these
19:53 um horizontal bars is basically a
19:56 different Lego block and then and it
19:57 kind of goes in order so the first one
20:00 is it takes the input from the Google
20:01 form so if you open this up there's you
20:05 know like here's the the form you used
20:07 it's like we're using the content
20:09 Evolution challenge engine and then it
20:11 brings the input from that form and then
20:13 the next thing down is the open AI
20:17 um prompt that gets sent over to open AI
20:21 so I've got a really complicated prompt
20:24 in here because we're looking for
20:26 sophisticated output and then like all
20:29 these little
20:30 um Fields right here these are the the
20:32 data from the form so so Step One is
20:35 pull the data in from the form step two
20:36 is stick that data into this bigger
20:39 prompt and then send that off to open Ai
20:41 and then get back an answer for that so
20:43 the first thing is I get back the
20:45 content
20:46 and then the second thing I do is take
20:48 that content and send that back to open
20:50 Ai and have it format the HTML like it
20:54 can it can do all the HTML formatting
20:56 too right and then I take that and I put
20:59 it in the email and that gets sent and
21:01 then a row gets added to a spreadsheet
21:03 so so this is the way I would do it uh
21:07 if I were you and and it doesn't have to
21:09 be zapier there's one out there called
21:11 make makke
21:14 um that that I think is newer than
21:16 zapier it looks it looks pretty slick
21:18 um I just figured out how to use zapier
21:21 and it's been around for a while
21:23 it's really janky the the problem with
21:25 no code tools is that in order to make
21:27 them no code
21:30 they have to make them complicated and
21:32 janky because they're because because
21:33 they're trying to accommodate all people
21:35 who might want to program something so
21:36 they start out with this really simple
21:38 idea and then it just gets increasing
21:40 increasingly complicated so they're
21:42 janky as [ __ ] but zapier's been around
21:44 for [ __ ] ever so just go to YouTube
21:46 look up zapier and you will
21:51 probably be bored out of your mind and
21:53 go boy I was wish I was watching male
21:56 Rosie O'Donnell fat Alec Baldwin
21:59 but you won't be you'll be watching some
22:02 YouTuber talking about
22:04 that this is inspiring thank you
22:08 um this is why I bought a lot of Nvidia
22:10 William Beckham good on you I hope you
22:14 bought it like two or two years ago or
22:15 more in video they just hit a trillion
22:18 dollar market cap I think they doubled
22:20 in the past year and then like 50 after
22:23 that to a trillion
22:25 um I don't have any of it that was that
22:27 was not a good move because
22:29 I was paying attention to this stuff
22:31 early enough to realize they were gonna
22:33 probably be big but holy crap man they
22:37 seem Unstoppable at this point because
22:38 it's it's tough to spin up
22:41 um
22:42 it's tough to spin up
22:44 um chip manufacturing so
22:48 and like and like the thing I don't get
22:50 like I just don't understand that world
22:51 at all like
22:52 you know why is Intel you know not
22:55 jumped into this game why why has AMD
22:57 not jumped into this game I mean Apple
22:59 Apple's actually killing it in this game
23:02 but it's all on their own silicon right
23:04 like if you listen to their to The
23:06 Vision Pro keynote that was really
23:09 fascinating they didn't mention the word
23:11 AI once or the phrase AI
23:14 the acronym
23:17 um they didn't use the word metaverse
23:19 once
23:20 so they they successfully separated
23:22 themselves from the metaverse
23:24 and
23:26 I feel like what they did by avoiding
23:28 using AI
23:30 was they didn't have to there were no
23:33 expectations other than the fact that
23:35 Siri sucks and everybody knows Siri
23:37 sucks and then they're like now you can
23:39 just say Siri instead of hey Siri and it
23:42 pops it up but um
23:45 but when Apple gets into the AI game
23:48 it's going to be good because if if you
23:50 listen a lot of what they said is oh
23:52 we're really good at you know this is
23:54 the the neural part of our chip and
23:56 we're good at machine learning and we're
23:58 good at
23:59 um on device inference which basically
24:01 means when we're doing all this magical
24:03 AI stuff with these goggles
24:06 we're not sending it off to a server
24:08 it's all being done on the chips right
24:10 in that device so they're really good at
24:12 it where do you get GPT for okay
24:15 these URLs why I have these here is for
24:18 people who
24:19 um are trying to figure this [ __ ] out
24:21 um I'm in no way associated with these
24:23 although I think I should I should be at
24:25 this point because you know I'm just
24:28 promoting the [ __ ] out of them the top
24:29 one is is the official chat gbt site so
24:33 you can get chat gbt for there but you
24:37 need to pay for it

24:52 you have your search box that that if it
24:55 says ask me anything that's the new
24:56 super modern one and there's this chat
24:59 button up here and you click on the chat
25:00 button and it pops open a page
25:03 that looks like this this is gpt4 now
25:06 this is Microsoft's implementation of
25:08 gpt4 but it's it's cool it's got three
25:11 little modes more creative more balanced
25:13 and more precise and
25:16 it's also connected to the Internet so I
25:18 can say write me a poem about
25:23 game three of the
25:26 NBA finals which that was the one that
25:30 jokic had a
25:32 uh whatever triple double and they won
25:35 the game by a pretty sizable amount
25:37 here's a poem about the NBA Finals so
25:41 the game was on the line the players
25:43 were in their Prime the crowd was on
25:44 their feet is the ball was in the heat
25:46 the Nugget sees the day Joker can Murray
25:48 were on to play on display
25:52 um so so that's gpt4 and then you can
25:54 also go to poe.com
25:58 and poe.com is is a little confusing
26:02 people like wait what do I do here

26:11 these things and these are all different
26:13 large language models
26:15 um down to chat EBT so Sage is pose uh
26:19 pose thing then the next three here
26:22 gpt4 Claude plus and Claude plus instant
26:26 you see that says subscribed you need to
26:28 you need to subscribe you need to do
26:30 their monthly fee to get those but I'll
26:32 tell you why that's a big deal and then
26:34 you've got clot instant which is
26:36 incredibly fast and you've got GPT and
26:38 then you can also make your own chat
26:40 bots so I made like a sling bait Sling
26:42 Blade chat bot and a Yoda chat bot and
26:45 Shakespeare chat bot and a mid Journey
26:47 chat bot I didn't make the mid Journey
26:48 one but I'm I pulled it in from someone
26:50 it'll write a mid-journey prompt
26:53 um but you can use gpt4 here
26:56 if you subscribe and this one that says
26:58 Claude instant 100K what that means is
27:02 it's it's it's like gpt4 except well
27:05 it's actually more like GPT 3.5 but it's
27:08 got a hundred thousand token context
27:10 window and if you're new to this that
27:12 that shouldn't mean [ __ ] to you
27:15 but basically what it means is this chat
27:17 GPT has a limit as to how much text you
27:20 can put in it for the prompt so
27:22 sometimes you're like oh I want it to
27:24 analyze this work document I've got and
27:27 you'll copy and paste the text out of it
27:28 and you paste it into chat GPT and it's
27:31 like sorry I can't eat all that I'm full
27:34 and it just it won't deal with your [ __ ]
27:36 because it's got a 4 000 token limit
27:38 this Claude instant 100K has a hundred
27:41 thousand token limit which is 75 000
27:43 words so you could literally copy and
27:46 paste an entire novel into the chat
27:48 window and say write me the last chapter
27:50 and it will
27:52 uh so that's Poe so those are where I
27:56 would start or those are where I'd go to
27:58 get GPT for

30:34 comments based off of the time stamp of
30:37 the comment on Facebook can you use your
30:40 chat bot to
30:43 answer comments yeah you could do that
30:46 with
30:49 you can do that with zapier so if you if
30:52 you basically say to zapier like
30:55 um
30:56 look at this Facebook Channel and then I
30:59 don't know
31:01 whatever the time stamp is pull whatever
31:04 the comment was and then once you have
31:07 the data pulled in so the way the way
31:09 zapier works is you've got all these
31:11 Lego blocks and some of the Lego blocks
31:13 pull pull data in and some of the Lego
31:15 blocks send data out and some of the
31:18 Lego blocks process data right and so
31:20 it's a combination like you always start
31:22 with a trigger and the trigger is
31:24 someone posted on my Discord Channel or
31:27 someone posted on Facebook or someone
31:29 you know filled out the form the Google
31:31 form that you created and and then once
31:33 that event happens then it then it
31:35 starts it's the trigger that triggers
31:37 these series of Lego blocks to execute
31:41 um so I think you could do that with
31:42 with zapier
31:46 um I feel like you've been on Non-Stop
31:48 for a week and he's sleeping no my
31:52 wife's in New York so I'm home the boys

34:43 specific thing you want to do like what
34:44 you just said you go find plugins that
34:47 are kind of in the neighborhood you
34:48 activate up to three and then you can do
34:51 your search so we've got those three
34:53 three things activated
34:56 um I want you to act as an international

44:45 these and then you'll pick a channel
44:46 where you can make stuff so how you how

48:54 tells you about prompt engineering

48:59 do you want to start with a photo or
49:01 painting what's the subject what are the
49:03 details
49:04 um what's the environment the color
49:06 scheme the point of view the background
49:07 right all that different stuff and then
49:10 it even starts to show you things like
49:12 modifiers like photography modifiers
49:15 like here's all the different things it
49:17 understands different subjects different
49:19 styles different shot types like you can
49:22 do a close-up you can do an extreme
49:23 close-up and it and then it gives you
49:25 examples of what it's going to be like
49:28 if you use certain terms you can do
49:31 different art mediums right so so if
49:34 you're teaching an art class you know
49:36 you could have people just prompt in you
49:38 know using pencil drawing or using clay
49:40 sculpture or something like that
49:43 um then it knows like you know
49:45 essentially all the artists it knows all
49:47 the artists so you want to do art
49:49 history how have people generate their
49:51 own versions of their favorite artists
49:53 this just goes on and on and on and on
49:56 and on it's so cool so it's it's just

50:01 other like you can take any one of these
