This is a quick walkthrough of Time Traveler Selfie Booth, my hackathon app that lets you upload a selfie and see yourself as a completely different character in another time and place. You pick the era, location, and archetype—then the app uses Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (Nano Banana) to generate a photorealistic portrait that looks like it came from that moment in history. In this video, I’m testing a few combinations, showing how the era-specific photographic look is automatically applied behind the scenes. Built fast. Designed for fun. Powered by Nano Banana.

0:00 Hi, my name is Kyle Shannon and this is
0:03 my entry for the Nano Banana hackathon.
0:06 And what this is, this wholly relies on
0:10 Nano Banana. So, what you do is you can
0:12 either take a selfie with a camera. So,
0:14 you can turn the camera on and take a
0:16 picture of yourself like that. Let me
0:18 turn on my light here so I look pretty.
0:21 There it is. And I take a picture. And
0:25 then I can select which character I
0:28 want. So, self, librarian, pirate,
0:31 samurai, we'll go samurai. Location, New
0:34 York City, Berlin, we'll go Tokyo. And
0:37 then decade, 1890s, 1920s. So, you pick
0:41 a decade you want. And you can also with
0:43 all these you can enter your own, but
0:45 this is prepopulated. So, we'll go
0:46 1980s. And then I click color selfie.
0:50 And the nano banana is bending time and
0:53 space and taking me off into uh Tokyo.
0:57 And what did I say? 1980s and pretty
1:00 soon here we will have there I am as a
1:04 samurai in 1985. And if I click on that
1:09 uh it's got the little uh the little
1:11 handwritten note on it. There's the
1:13 picture of me in Tokyo. And uh and then
1:17 I can uh I've got this uh selected. So
1:21 if you share it, it it pulls up the
1:23 native sharing applications. I can
1:25 download this uh and it automatically
1:27 will download it. Or I can just say take
1:30 another shot and it will automatically
1:32 take another shot. And again, nano
1:36 banana is really quick. So that's pretty
1:38 cool. Yeah, that looks great. Look, look
1:39 how awesome that is. Um yeah, 1980s
1:43 cars. Those are 1980s headlights. Um I
1:46 also added in some branding. Uh I'm the
1:47 co-founder of the AI salon and so I put
1:50 some branding on the top of that and
1:52 then the uh the little uh label at the
1:55 bottom of of you know when it when it is
1:57 and do a little branding here and then
1:59 you can also do this as a uh as a black
2:02 and white. So let me let me grab a
2:04 different uh different character here.
2:06 I'll say a uh store clerk in uh we'll go
2:12 let's see Cairo in the 1890s.
2:17 We'll go 1920s.
2:19 And uh we'll do black and white selfie.
2:22 And you know it generates the app. There
2:24 you go. You click on it. It zooms in.
2:28 Apparently I've been eating pretty well
2:30 as the store clerk in Cairo in the
2:32 1920s.
