13. 5:05today with John Leland a play shop we did the play shop um a number of people from the from the AI salon and the

20. 6:37it would have been a very different thing than what we gave today today was much more like the philosophy of using
21. 6:44the tools rather than you know how you use specific tools so we bounced around a lot and just talked about you
22. 6:53know how you think about this stuff like how are you supposed to how are you supposed to keep up with technology you
23. 6:59can't keep up with how are you supposed to learn technology that's changing every two weeks um how are you supposed to not
24. 7:07just get completely overwhelmed and and intimidated and and the answer is play the answer is don't take it so seriously
25. 7:17just just play with tools and Inspire yourself and and just unlock unlock creativity um in in everything you do
26. 7:28and that and and that that that's kind of the key so it was good it was good and be con and constipated with AI yeah
27. 7:37exactly that you can get very constipated with it you can it's it's it's funny chat GPT is very much like a
28. 7:43blank piece of paper right cuz it can do anything you know so can a blank piece of paper right little blank piece of
29. 7:51paper can be pretty intimidating well what do I write on it I could write anything what if it's not the Great
30. 7:57American novel right and you don't write anything that's kind of like chat GPT what do I prompt it to say what do I do with
31. 8:05it and so we talked a lot about that talked a little bit about the origin of chat GPT and little historical
32. 8:14context talked a little bit about how it works which is wild if you don't know how chat GPT works it's absolutely
33. 8:23insane once you get it it's even more um remark able what it does Google pre6 2016 or 2008 was better yeah Google's
34. 8:39completely useless at this point it's it's really bad ai ai seems so overrated I was just using chat GPT to learn about
35. 8:48secret societies nothing Well certain topics it's got safety guard rails in and so it's not going to go there if you want to run down
36. 9:00conspiracy theory holes then go get yourself an unrestricted version of llama and I'm sure you can I'm sure it will be much much more
37. 9:12pleasing you got to understand these you know the commercial entities are you know are are not going to have their
38. 9:21their large language models do things that could get them in trouble right you know as little as possible so they've
39. 9:28got safety guard rails on them for stuff like that uh will the play shop be available on demand for sale yeah in
40. 9:34fact Brandon it was was funny I was thinking of you um it is going to be for sale and we're going to do an affiliate

46. 10:26it actually brought up a really interesting um definitional thing you know is is listening to an audiobook reading
47. 10:36because you can read with your eyes and you can read Braille with your fingers but can you read audio books with your
48. 10:42ears I don't we don't know like it seems unclear it's it is unproven case law can we play with ideogram tonight
49. 10:51absolutely we've played with that a lot today actually um so yeah I can do that ask meta AI for an extensive list of the
50. 10:58best go and girls on liners and how did it do [Laughter] Danielle oh let's see what would you do if you
51. 11:12owned AI not a.net but. AI I don't think owning the domain name does anything I asked chat GPT for opinions on
52. 11:22standardized education it gave me a very honest opinion well one of the things that that um chat GPT well all all large language
53. 11:35models are decent at is it will give you non-emotional um arguments to just to explain stuff if you ask it to explain
54. 11:46something to you it doesn't do it with emotion which is unlike humans right if you ask humans to talk about certain topics um
55. 11:59it is a risky business because you know our country has been polarized and informationized and so there are certain
56. 12:11words that are trigger words in our society now on on all sides of the conversation and you can't you literally
57. 12:18can't talk about certain topics um and that's not so with these large language models so I actually think that um people that actually
58. 12:33have you know real questions about those topics are going to be able to actually get educated on them and I think that's
59. 12:44a good thing I you know I find it quite amazing I it was one of the things that kind of caught me off guard with it is I
60. 12:51would be like typing into chat GPT and I would be afraid of certain topics I'm like oh this is one of those touchy
61. 12:57topics and it didn't respond with any emotion it just said here's the answer to your question I'm like oh that's
62. 13:04refreshing right I don't have to get defensive about asking a question uh we just hired a few interns to work on new
63. 13:11AI project and 500 applications were submitted wow huh interesting I how many how many of them were claiming 10 years AI
64. 13:26experience how many of those applications were were written by [Laughter] AI it's really funny um it's not funny
65. 13:36it's really [ __ ] up LinkedIn because LinkedIn added the right right you know comment for me using AI just people are commenting on posts I
66. 13:47do that are just they're it's people I don't know you know very often from you know lands far far away and all the
67. 13:59answers are identical slight slight word changes but it's all AI generated [ __ ] it's awful oh you can learn a lot of info
68. 14:08from chat Bots I love it yeah exactly how do you qualify how do you qualify who can actually use it well oh yeah that's that's a good
69. 14:20question all of them all of them used AI to write write their resumés actually who you should hire is
70. 14:30the one person out of 50 that didn't use AI to write write their thing and then you should write an AI response letter
71. 14:38to the other 49 that said we hired the person that didn't use Ai and then and then say no this this rejection letter was written by
72. 14:47[Laughter] AI oh man someone is prototyping a Marketplace that will allow AI to hire humans to do things it can't do I saw
73. 14:58that Brandon yeah it's um it's a I forget what the company's called but it's it's a bunch of autonomous AI
74. 15:07agents that go off and do stuff for people and then when it gets stuck when it can't do something it actually has
75. 15:15its own little bank account or its own little its own little slush fund and it can hire humans to do tasks that it can't
76. 15:23do payman that's it yeah exactly I I hav't checked it out yet but I I think it's actually a pretty brilliant idea right like until these
77. 15:34autonomous agents get good there's going to be certain things they can't do and even when they get good there's still
78. 15:40going to be certain things they can't do and so it's just going to hire people oh man kind of like hiring an unknown SEO company exactly
79. 15:53exactly and if you know if in order to buy some of that SEO sweet sweet media dollars you've got to talk to someone in person you know it'll
80. 16:04hire a person to make that call it's just crazy can I create video clips with AI like we generate images
81. 16:14yes you can in fact here let me show you this is the new meta um AI just meta doai so this is this is from Facebook and it's just like
82. 16:28chat GPT so you can just say you know write a poem and it'll write a poem let's see how let's see how horrible it is rays of sunshine flow
83. 16:42through wait filter through a gentle breeze rustles a new the trees awake from their sleep a spring sweet magic
84. 16:48starts to creep that's that is solid fourth grade poetry it's nice um but you can it can also make images and so all
85. 16:58right that's good we'll do let's see uh a poodle playing a violin it's pretty quick it's free and boom there's
86. 17:14that cute and then you can just click this animate button and now look it's going to suck okay but it's free and it makes video by
87. 17:26just clicking the animate button look he's he's nearly he's nearly running a bow over the strings well through the
88. 17:34violin through the force field of the violin that's pretty [Laughter] funny but you know cut that cut that
89. 17:49quickly into an editing sequence and you wouldn't know that that wasn't real um it also watermarks it so you can do it
90. 17:56with that you can do it uh there there's a bunch of tools that do it um Leonardo a does it probably the most famous one is
91. 18:06runwayml or Runway ml.com oh I'll show you another one that's kind of fun um so that's lip
92. 18:25sync text text to video so you just come over here and you can say [Music]
93. 18:50um video of a dragster spinning its Wheels as the lights turn on generate and now it's going to just
94. 19:04generate [ __ ] I can also upload an image and just tell it to um generate video out of that image you can do image to
95. 19:14video so we'll see how this does this cars in general it does pretty bad at because it doesn't know how the it
96. 19:20doesn't know how the physics work of the wheels so so they it'll get the smoke right but like the wheels probably won't

101. 20:24free that's pretty good what's the best AI to summarize a podcast or YouTube video um I use Claude I think Gemini 1.5 Pro
102. 20:42is pretty good at it um because it's got a Gemini so a way to do this is just go to YouTube and get the transcript of
103. 20:56your video and then go go into Gemini Pro 1.5 Pro which has a million token context window and just paste it in there it's
104. 21:08amazing cuz cuz a million tokens is is like you know many many many many many pages way way more than your podcast
105. 21:17like even if you have a six-hour podcast it can probably just ingest that whole whole thing and summarize it for you oh
106. 21:25look it's a dragster from 1962 that's that's view of a dragster spinning its Wheels as the lights turn on that's pretty

137. 27:53this picture of Messi you can go look at their magic prompt so the magic prompt is what but ideogram actually writes for
138. 28:01someone um they typed in Lionel Messi portrait and then ideogram itself said a striking and dynamic portrait of the legendary soccer player
139. 28:13Lionel Messi he has shown midst stride with the ball at his feet wearing an iconic Argentina Jersey right so that's kind of
140. 28:23slick and so you can copy that or or you can just say remix and it'll just use this image as a starting point and that
141. 28:31prompt as a starting point and get going or you can just type in anything you want it's also got these little things
142. 28:38that you can click like Wildlife photography and then I'll say um an exotic fictitious
143. 28:53bird that has the auto Bond Society in a Kur
144. 29:13fuffle I strongly encourage you to act like an idiot with AI because listen it you're not going to get worse

191. 40:15gpts they call them Poots you can make a chatbot um you can monetize your chatbots and your chatbots do not require the end user to have a
192. 40:27subscription so there's a couple of things that Po's doing that it's actually doing better hit F5 oh yeah I
193. 40:34know yeah there's a couple of things that it's doing better than chat GPT um I'm not a huge fan of the interface
194. 40:44it feels a little bit like play you know preschool play play school kind of kind of interface to me but it's gotten a bit
195. 40:53better um and it's just got it's got all these Bots that people have made and it's got its own Bots and it's got all
196. 40:59these models you can try and it's really easy to make a bot so um I'd say as a primary if you're only going to have one
197. 41:15subscription I would subscribe to chat GPT but if you want to not dick with a bunch of other sites you could just use po you
198. 41:27could just subscribe to PO and then you've got access to like here's all the Claude models Claude 3 Sonet Haiku and
199. 41:34Opus here's GPT 4 here's playground 2.5 which is an image generation model here's Gemini 1.5 Pro here's Dolly 3
200. 41:44here's stable diffusion 3 stable diffusion turbo um stable diffusion whatever the hell that is probably 2.1
201. 41:51here's llama uh llama 3 70 billion parameter right so here's the mixl things so you hear about llama and mixl
202. 42:00you can use all these so some of these sit behind their pay wall some of them don't so um yeah I I mean I'd say I'd say

223. 45:57probably not Runway or paa like it it depends on what you want to do with video I think the talking avatars right
224. 46:04now are more interesting than Runway and Pika but people are using Runway and Pika to do interesting stuff all the video
225. 46:13tools um are really expensive and they don't give you a lot of time so you see these really cool videos that people do
226. 46:21and you're like oh I'm GNA make a whole feature film and then you you know you realize you've only got 120 seconds
227. 46:28worth of video and even if it makes something that's not usable you're still paying for it so um yeah I would
228. 46:36probably do I would probably do mid Journey or like hey Jen or D- ID in addition to chat GPT but you know I don't
229. 46:49know there's there's so many right now and it's like you can use um co-pilot from Microsoft for free meta a is free
230. 47:01um Claude is free um though they limit you um Pi is free there's just a ton of free tools out there and there's a ton
231. 47:12of free image generation tools and now there's image generation tools that do video and now you can go to udio have
232. 47:19you seen udio that makes the songs holy [ __ ] that's free [Laughter] oh

240. 49:01iPhone 15 pro at decent speed so I think I think we're going to start seeing stuff that you can um then you can load
241. 49:09up load up on your machines like yeah again I I think by this time next year there's going to be a lot of options I
242. 49:18think it's going to be built into Android I think it's going to be built into iOS iOS depending on your phone
243. 49:26model mod might be running locally um so that's not free because you're in the Apple ecosystem but you know people are already paying for

269. 54:39install it on a device we used to joke back in the 90s about you know people that were clueless about the internet
270. 54:46they they would use phrases like yeah I got the internet installed on my computer I had to get a bigger hard
271. 54:52drive you know we used to joke about that that's effectively what these things are it's not quite it but it's
272. 54:58like you're packing a massive amount of human knowledge into an incredibly efficient um you know little package and
273. 55:09and over the next two years that that package is going to get better and better and smaller and smaller and then
274. 55:16the chips that you have on your devices are going to get you know more optimized for this kind of interaction So within 3
275. 55:24years we will probably have I'm guessing GPT 5 level interactions where you don't even have to be connected to the
276. 55:34internet you can just do all this [ __ ] natively and it'll be instant it it will not be like Dial up modems is that
277. 55:49crazy how was your Workshop today bet it was awesome it was a lot of fun an yeah it was really good it was really good we
278. 55:56did a lot of we sort of did some foundational stuff at the beginning and then did a lot of bouncing around tools and I I called it what did
279. 56:05I call it um like like the these uh these large language models are now going multimodal but they're not completely multimodal so you
280. 56:17have all these different tools you've got music generation tools and image tools and you know large language models
281. 56:23and you know you just have all these different tools and so we were talking about was creativity and you know taking a small idea and
282. 56:35kind of blowing the doors off it so like starting in chat GPT and if you've got an idea like this one guy had an idea
283. 56:43for his great great great grandfather had this remarkable story and they've got this diary from like the
284. 56:511840s of of the grandfather and it's got these Amazing Stories in it and so so he's like he wanted to make like
285. 56:57pictures right and we're like well you know take that diary and like have chat GPT analyze it and make songs out of it
286. 57:05you know here's song lyrics here's short stories out of it here's a screenplay here's a Broadway musical right and then
287. 57:13go to these different tools and and you just sort of go around the around the Ring of what's possible and it every
288. 57:20stop along the way sort of blow the doors off the idea and so it was it was just the idea of worry less about what
289. 57:28the tools are and more about how you're thinking about how you can express any idea that you want and it was one of the
290. 57:36one of the things that was really interesting one of the women that came um you know we did a writing exercise
291. 57:44about like what are your project ideas like what you know what's something that you want to do and she was like I don't
292. 57:48really know like I just I just know I want to do stuff with AI and so with her we talked about we'll use chat GPT to
293. 57:55give you 20 ideas right and then take one of those ideas and blow it out it was fun it was really neat thank you for
294. 58:09asking so not that I don't believe them I just want to know more all I do is generate and stare at inference performance numbers there's a
295. 58:18lot of nuance to it well it's I like I don't know if these numbers are correct I don't really give a [ __ ] if they're
296. 58:25correct but but just the the speed with which um grock generates content is is quite impressive and it's you know what's
297. 58:37funny Pate is the there's something there's something I'm finding that I'm having to do mental gymnastics
298. 58:50about with with grock when when grock produces content that quickly there's something in my head that just
299. 58:58goes it can't be good and then I read it and it's not bad and I'm like I I'm going to have to somehow learn to process stuff being
300. 59:11generated faster than I can comprehend it and I know that's what computers do in general right like how they process
301. 59:18[ __ ] as quick as they do is incomprehensible but but like gp4 right now we've had it for a year and you can
302. 59:25kind of you can kind of watch it writing right and you're like okay yeah that's it's thinking about it and like just you
303. 59:33know mentally I'm like I can process that and when Gro just goes and it's done I'm like I I don't have a way to process it and like again
304. 59:43this is like the tools right now are shitty I mean imagine three years from now when these tools are incredible don't make mistakes and are
305. 59:54instant and it's it's like instant video Instant Music instant brilliant writing instant coding we got we we got some we got some
306. 1:00:07catching up to do as humans just dealing with what these things are about to unleash on us in a good way not even the
307. 1:00:15bad stuff like the bad stuff will deal with but just even the good stuff it's it's going to alter our
308. 1:00:22brains it's so funny when when Elon Musk first started talking about um neuralink right the thing where
309. 1:00:31they drill in your skull and they have a robot insert electrodes into your brain and he was like he was like you know
310. 1:00:39imagine having an interface where you could control the apps on your phone instantly and the only frame of
311. 1:00:46reference I had when he was talking about this four or five years ago was like iPhone apps which are slow and
312. 1:00:54stupid and like you don't need super quick interface with them but he was talking about the slowness of of human
313. 1:01:04perception and like you have to click on stuff and then your eyes have to process it and then [ __ ] goes in your brain and
314. 1:01:10it does what it does and then it's and it's a really slow process and he was talking imagine that being
315. 1:01:16immediate and I didn't get it until I started seeing this generative AI stuff over the past two years where all of a
316. 1:01:25sudden you look at something something like grock where it's instantly processing something and you realize if
317. 1:01:30you could think an idea and immediately have the thing start responding or calculating or having a conversation
318. 1:01:36with someone or educating you in real time as you're having a conversation all of a sudden brain interfaces start to
319. 1:01:44make a lot more sense meta's talking right now they've got a wearable which right now it's this big ass it's like a
320. 1:01:51cuff uh it's like it's like one of those cuffs they put on Prisoners the cuff it's like that big but it's actually a
321. 1:01:59brain interface it's a it's a brain to machine interface um Apple just patented um uh the coverings of the earbuds that
322. 1:02:09go in your ear they just patented a thing that puts electrodes all around those so when you put it in your ear
323. 1:02:15it's actually a brain to computer interface in your earbud so I think you're not going to have to have your
324. 1:02:21skull drilled to have these things and and we're we're going to have [ __ ] just crazy ass science fiction sort of instant Computing

392. 1:14:07background and then streaming streaming the voice in fascinating stuff crazy could use to test dialogue for actors

399. 1:15:50stifle innovation in Colorado so especially if you're from Colorado but even if you're not um go to that link and here's the letter
400. 1:15:59here's the link to the the bill but the the letter is pretty self-explanatory it basically just says the the the uh the
401. 1:16:07political equivalent of hey um swell that you got this bill a shame you have your head up your ass and here are some of the specific
402. 1:16:16things you know in the bill that we think are really problematic for for Innovation and and what it's got is it's
403. 1:16:23got things like you know know you need to hire an Ethics lawyer if you're going to use Ai and you have to reverse
404. 1:16:31engineer any AI that you use to determine if it's got bias in it and if so have your have your lawyer review it
405. 1:16:39and whatever and also things like you have to label anything that was generated with AI I'm like uh okay what
406. 1:16:48if it was just like one paragraph in a whole book does that have to be labeled it's just it this was clearly written by someone
407. 1:16:58who well this was clearly written by someone in Connecticut because this is a copycat bill of Connecticut
408. 1:17:06legislation um that and and the Colorado Senator and the Connecticut Senator or who legislator um just had a joint pre
409. 1:17:17press conference talking about their awesome AI legislation um out to protect the consumers and all and what it really
410. 1:17:25does is is dramatically hurt um especially small small businesses so anyway if you're willing to please go uh
411. 1:17:35check out that letter and sign sign up it's a Google form that's here um so if you want to do that the other thing that

436. 1:21:06that as AI tools get more capable what they're going to allow is every individual to be able to do every
437. 1:21:17task at some level of competence like every task and if you're like but I'm not a coder you'll be able to do coding
438. 1:21:25in the future but I'm not an artist I'm not a writer I'm not a this whatever whatever things that you've got in Your
439. 1:21:32Arsenal of talents and skills that you think I'm not that you're going to be able to be that so the implications of
440. 1:21:41that are that we are in the middle of a transition where we today hire people because of what they can do their skills
441. 1:21:51oh you're a copywriter I'll hire you to be a copywriter oh you're a designer I'll hire you oh you're you know you're
442. 1:21:57a project manager I'll hire you to do that as AI gets better at augmenting all humans we're not going to hire people
443. 1:22:07for what they can do we're going to hire people for who they are and how much we trust them and like how they work how
444. 1:22:16they think how they do their job right do they do it with Integrity do they do it um with with passion do they do it
445. 1:22:26with you know taste and good judgment and so the implication of that then means you need to have an increasing circle of
446. 1:22:39people that can trust you can do the work and so what that means is being in a community like the AI Salon which is a
447. 1:22:47it's a it's a community of AI adventurers people that are curious about AI but there's there's some things
448. 1:22:52about it like we encourage people to use their real name we we have a set of values here like like curiosity we want
449. 1:23:00people in this community that are curious about AI we want them generous like people that are sharing what
450. 1:23:06they're learning and they're connecting why is that because it helps build trust it helps build relationship hey I just
451. 1:23:12learned this thing here's how I did it oh can I ask you a question about that sure absolutely that builds that
452. 1:23:19relationship um exploration people that are willing to say o there's a new thing out let's let's figure out how to do
453. 1:23:26that maybe we do that together um collaboration is one of the other values here right you know are you willing to
454. 1:23:33to connect with other people and and build things California will find a way to tax it that's hilarious um inclusion
455. 1:23:41um you know people everyone's going to be affected by AI everyone there's not going to be an exception to it so people
456. 1:23:48are going to be coming from all walks of life all experience levels all professional levels all ages all ethnic
457. 1:23:56backgrounds all of it right so being open to those other points of view is is super important empathy we are in the middle
458. 1:24:05of what I think is at a minimum five years of massive change massive change is always [ __ ] terrifying people are afraid of
459. 1:24:17Technology they're afraid of losing jobs they're afraid of their jobs changing and all of that's going to happen and it's going to happen
460. 1:24:25in in batches dramatically so having empathy for what people are going through or that they might be afraid of that they might be
461. 1:24:33pissed off at AI like yeah have empathy for that understand that um and then the final one is gratitude imagine being in a
462. 1:24:45community that people were interesting and curious and engaged and generous and willing to help one another and willing to collaborate
463. 1:24:55and also like appreciative of that that's what this community is these values that I just went through they're not like
464. 1:25:05aspirational that's how this group is so if this sounds interesting to you if the idea of being in community and and you
465. 1:25:13know being able to have support around you as you try to figure this AI [ __ ] out is interesting come to the AI Salon
