21. 3:02big week this week in terms of AI stuff. I'll talk about a little bit of a little bit about things that went on and
22. 3:09things. I'm thinking about the fable model from Anthropic has been extended from it was supposed to go away on
23. 3:24Tuesday. It's been extended through Sunday. And and when people say it's going away, it's not really going away. What what
24. 3:32it's going away from is if you pay $20 or $200 a month for Claude access. Right now, you can access Fable, which is their new MacDaddy
25. 3:44um model. As of Sunday night at midnight, you're going to have to pay on a per token basis. And it's like a million tokens
26. 3:53are $50. So you can blow through a million tokens with Fable quickly. [laughter] So So uh what it likely means
27. 4:03is that most people will not be paying the per token charge. So effectively they're taking access away to anyone
28. 4:09who's not willing to spend lots of money for that model. Um so if you haven't played with it, if you haven't launched
29. 4:17Claude Code or Claude Co-work or launched Claude.ai, AI just go to their website and turn on the fable model and
30. 4:25say make me a something or solve some mysterious problem of the universe something like that then um you'll see how good it is and maybe
31. 4:39it'll actually solve something for you. Like a lot of people are trying to figure out all the different
32. 4:44things they could use it for and they're cramming cramming it in which is good. Um yesterday OpenAI launched GPT 5.6 Soul, Terra, and Luna.
33. 4:59So those are their three different sized nextg model 5.6. Not good enough to be a six. It's a 5.6. It's a 0.1 release, not
34. 5:09a um but but it's apparently quite capable um especially at agentic work. So if you take OpenAI's codeex and say, "Hey, go solve
35. 5:25this problem and do all these steps and do all this research and write it into a thing and turn it into a newsletter and
36. 5:32do all that string of activity. It's apparently really good at that." Um, there's a guy on X named Matt,
37. 5:42what's his last name? Sherman. F Furman Matt, I forget his last name, but he's a YouTuber and he and he does he does lots
38. 5:54of AI stuff. Um, apparently um Saul Chat GBT Saul 5.6 or 5.6 Saul erased his hard like deleted all the data on his hard drive. Sherman. Matt
39. 6:09Sherman. No, Matt. Matt Sherman. Um, is it Burman? Burman Shurmer Shurmer Shurmer or Burman some guy named Matt
40. 6:22like I said like I said originally [laughter] some but yeah uh it it it wiped his all of his data on his hard drive. So so one
41. 6:32of the reasons that you run these agentic platforms on standalone Mac minis or standalone computers is for exactly this. [laughter]
42. 6:42And if you're not backing up your data, like one of the things that Fable So, so one of the ways that I used Fable, I was
43. 6:49running codecs on my M5 MacBook Pro and I was using Fable to check my work. Said Fable, go check my setup and what's
44. 6:58wrong. And it found a bunch of things wrong with it. And one of the things it found is that all of the setup that I'm
45. 7:05setting up on that computer is not being backed up anywhere. So if if Soul 5.6 decides to delete all my crap, it's gone. [laughter]
46. 7:23Oh, let's see. Um, the other thing that we could play with a little bit, let me go see. I think this is now the case. So,
47. 7:34on Wednesday, I was playing. The other thing that's new with chat GPT is the new voice. >> Hey Quinn, how's it going? >> How are you?
48. 7:49>> Uh, I'm doing pretty good. You're a little quiet. Can you speak up? >> Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Is this any better?
49. 7:57>> Yeah, that's that's better. Um, so, so you're new, you're the new model and you can tell because it's got this purple
50. 8:03thing here. One of the cool things you can do with this is you can grab that purple thing and slide it down and now
51. 8:09the transcript of what Quinn is saying will show up. So, can you write me a little uh poem about double-sided tape

58. 9:21With voice getting more natural, are we close to people actually talking to AI all day instead of typing prompts
59. 9:32I know, Mel, right? It's crazy. Um I saw it's funny. Somebody somebody created somebody created a microphone
60. 9:45that is just like a funnel with like a thing you put over your lips and you talk into it. So it's like
61. 9:56so you talk into this thing so that if you're at work your work neighbors won't annoy you. So, here's the the problem
62. 10:04with with the future where people think everyone's just going to talk to their AI is that we live in the world
63. 10:13and it's annoying when someone is on a cell phone, you know, you know, I'll tell you what, I uh I'll tell you what,
64. 10:22I went long on SpaceX and boy am I regretting that, [laughter] right? You don't you you don't want to hear anyone prompting their stupid
65. 10:32[ __ ] agent. So, I don't think it's going to change. The new voice model is really good. It sounds very natural. Yeah. That said,
66. 10:44there was weirdness about the the new voice model. I mean, the old voice model, the old advanced voice was that
67. 10:53it was not what they call full duplex. you had to wait for one party to stop and then the other party to start. With
68. 11:02this new model, you can just while she's talking, I can talk at her and she's hearing what I'm saying. So, if she's if
69. 11:10she's sort of rambling on about [ __ ] or whatever, like she sometimes does. It used to be that if you wanted to
70. 11:16continue the conversation, you'd have to sit there and just wait for her to finish that thought, and it got really
71. 11:22annoying. So, this this one you can just talk to more naturally. Um, it'll also do things like, um, hey Quinn, I want you to act as a live
72. 11:32translator for me. And, um, translate into, uh, Portuguese. And, uh, is, is, is Portugal still in the in the World Cup? They are, right?
73. 11:43They're playing tomorrow. Or did they get beat by Spain? >> Let me check. >> Yeah. Okay. You check. You check there, old queeny old girl.

80. 12:43call it soccer. They But we don't watch it. So like we don't care. Anyway, um it's pretty remarkable, right? It's it's pretty remarkable. Um
81. 12:56it now is also using the new flag shop flagship models instead of 40. Yeah, so that's the other thing about it. I just
82. 13:04talked to mine for seven minutes and it's complete trash. Okay, [laughter] it's Yeah, it's Listen, it's still AI.
83. 13:12So if you're expecting it to write well, okay, here's a thing that's really really really important. when Open AAI was making the 40 model
84. 13:24and then they did 45, they did 41 and then they did 45. But 40 was was that that first Omni model and 40 was really
85. 13:34good at writing and then four five some people like the personality of four five but the whole foruite was pretty good at writing.
86. 13:45That was at a time when OpenAI was exploring lots of venues. They were they had their Sora video model. They had launched a browser.
87. 13:57They were they were running down all these different paths, right? And and the way OpenAI was described at that
88. 14:04time was very much like teams of six or seven just innovating [ __ ] and just launching it. Innovate it, launch it.
89. 14:12Innovate it, launch it. Innovate it, launch it. Um, in doing that, while they were doing that and doing all these experiments,
90. 14:24Anthropic was making a bet on enterprise customers. And so they put out claude code and and they focused heavily on
91. 14:34engineering and programming. And OpenAI over the past 9 months has dropped a lot of their creative focus and just gone allin on optimizing
92. 14:49for programming. Both of these labs I think are gunning for which of them is going to hit recursive self-improvement first. So the
93. 14:58priority in those labs is engineering. So, they're not training these models for creative or liberal arts or anything
94. 15:07like that. As far as I know, they're going fullon it. The first one of these systems that can program good
95. 15:16enough to build the next model, we will be in the in the lead and potentially not catchable. So that's so so my theory
96. 15:26on why they suck at humanities right now is they're just not being trained on it. Like the humanities sort of come along
97. 15:33for the ride. I think at some point there will be a big opportunity for someone to create, you know, a highly
98. 15:40tuned model that's great at writing and great at whatever concept development, things like that. So that's something going on. All right.
99. 15:51Uh, I liked 40. Everybody liked 40. I don't know why they retired 40. They have not retired some things that
100. 16:01they could retire that no one liked or loved. I It must have just I think 40 must have been an incredibly inefficient
101. 16:09model that cost them a lot of money is my is my guess. But 40 was great. 40 was great. Okay. Grock, ChachiPT, and Fable
102. 16:19all had big model update news recently. Are we watching real breakthroughs or just everyone taking turns saying our
103. 16:26model is smarter now? Um, Fable So, so Fable and Mythos from Anthropic are are fundamentally a different class
104. 16:37of model. They're a 10 trillion parameter model. Um I think chat GBT 5.5 and I think Opus were like 1.5 trillion
105. 16:49parameter models. So Mythos is a really big model. So it's expensive to run, it's expensive to train, but it's got
106. 16:57high precision in and it's really good. Um, mythos seemed to hit seemed to cross a threshold where they could turn it loose
107. 17:09on systems that it didn't understand and it could exploit it could find and exploit all of the security issues with that system.
108. 17:19So that's led to all the drama with it being export controlled and just all that [ __ ] and Dario Amade screwing things up. Um,
109. 17:33chat GBT 5.6 is a three trillion parameter model. So, it's not the scale of mythos, but it's been optimized for
110. 17:40agentic work. So, if you're using codeex um, and you're using chat GPT 5.6, it's apparently really good at that long
111. 17:50like go work for me for four hours. It's apparently really good at that. So, these are breakthroughs. But listen,
112. 18:04a handful of scientists in the AI salon and we have a handful of baller engineers. Most people are not doing the kind of
113. 18:15work that any of us will notice that these things got dramatically better on the high end. Right. could you write me some marketing copy
114. 18:28for an email campaign where you go do some research for me on the latest news stories that are written by AI and then
115. 18:35write that up into a summary of the news that was written by the AI into a summary that I can send to the people
116. 18:42that that they'll then put into their AI to summarize my summary. that kind of stuff you don't need mythos to do. [laughter] So, so, um,
117. 19:00I don't think any of these models, you know, have officially cracked AGI because they're all still jankier than
118. 19:08[ __ ] Um, but, you know, probably a a turn or two of the wheel and and we'll be there. Mel, I heard on a podcast chat
119. 19:17GBT code. Oh, coder was saying soon we'll be able to make our own models. Interesting. Um, I haven't heard that,
120. 19:24but it wouldn't surprise me. I don't quite know what that looks like. Like what it what it maybe looks like is um
121. 19:35the frontier model companies will create a base model. That's the the the the base model and then the reinforce the
122. 19:42training will actually happen by individuals and they'll they'll probably create tools for that. I it's possible it's very possible. Um,
123. 19:53you know, it's not dissimilar to mood boards in midjourney where you take some work like in my case, I
124. 20:00took a bunch of photography that I did with an actual digital camera and Lightroom and I made pictures and I
125. 20:09uploaded those to MidJourney and now I can just make a bunch of pictures that look like pictures I took. So, training
126. 20:15your own model is probably going to be similar to that. There'll be tools that'll let you do it. You know, here's
127. 20:20a whole library of data sets. Like, here's all the diagnosis data for medical stuff. Go train a model on that. Open AI is retiring Canvas on
128. 20:31July 23rd. [cough and clears throat] Fascinating. So, that's next week or two weeks. Two weeks. July 23rd. They're retiring Canvas.
129. 20:49that me. So the so OpenAI is retiring Atlas. So they're retiring their browser. So if if you if if you're one
130. 20:57of the seven people using the OpenAI um browser, that's going away. And now it looks like Canvas is going away.
131. 21:06Here's the thing. They're rolling all of their stuff into a single app. Sounds like they're consolidating ahead
132. 21:15of an IPO. Yeah, actually that's that's actually a really good point, Brandon. So, their IPO was delayed because of
133. 21:23this anthropic [ __ ] and and because SpaceX did what it did and then it kind of crashed. Um, they they they want their product
134. 21:37roadmap to be clean. And so, so the other thing that you should know, and I'll I'll show this. I I'll I'll pop
135. 21:44up chat GPBT here in a second and I'll show you Google custom subdomains inside of AI Studio. Oh, that's interesting.
136. 21:57You know, the the one thing that I'm noticing about Google right now, wait, Google did have a drop today about
137. 22:04creating your own sites. Okay, subdomains inside of AI Studio referencing a pin on screen. Okay, cool. Um, I didn't know that. That's cool,
138. 22:15Danielle. Um, the thing that I've noticed about Google in the past month of shenanigans by Open Well, OpenAI hasn't really been shenanigy,
139. 22:29Anthropic certainly has. Dario Amade has just been out there shooting himself in the feet, the hands, and the elbows. It's like um
140. 22:41Google's been really quiet. They're just launching little things here or there. They're not saying very much. Um,
141. 22:50if I were a Sundar Pachai, I would be doing what he's probably doing is having his government affairs people um,
142. 23:01go start cutting deals to make sure that, hey, listen, we invented this [ __ ] We invented the Transformer. We've
143. 23:09got all these models. We're absolutely a frontier company, but but we're we're big boys. We're not like these cowboys
144. 23:16like Anthropic and OpenAI. We're Google, right? We're responsible now. So, so let's get what we need to get in
145. 23:26place so that when we come up with our mythos level AI, we can just launch it without interference. That's what I suspect is
146. 23:36going on at Google because why wouldn't they, right? you know, um, get your regulatory and government ducks in a row
147. 23:46so that you don't get interfered with. Mel, but chat GBT work wondering if it will all go there. I haven't touched it m much much yet.

226. 40:10and you're paying per API call, companies like Chat GPT have lots and lots of different models behind the
227. 40:20scene. They have whisper models. They have image models. They've got large language models that are optimized for
228. 40:26code or optimized for writing or optimized for categorizing or problem solving, things like that. As a developer,
229. 40:36you look at your application and you say, "Hey, for this little feature over here, I just need to alphabetize
230. 40:45these words." So, I don't need to spend, you know, a dollar per million tokens or $50 per million tokens in the case of
231. 40:55Fable to alphabetize words. So, I'm going to choose a really cheap model for that. And for whisper, for voice to
232. 41:01text, I'm going to choose a cheap model for that. and for this thing over here where I actually need to do problem
233. 41:06solving, I'm willing to spend more money. So developers are used to thinking in this way, different sized
234. 41:13models with different capabilities at different price points to do different things. [clears throat] Open AAI and Anthropic started as
235. 41:26research companies researching how to make large language models that were intelligent. the launch of chat GPT.
236. 41:36When they launched chat GPT, it got a million users in five days and it got a 100 million users in six weeks. It was
237. 41:45the fastest adoption of technology in history. So overnight, ChatGpt went from we're a research company to we're a consumer
238. 41:57software company. Those are two entirely different worlds. What we're witnessing is we're in between those two worlds.
239. 42:06We're in the liinal space where chat GPT is primarily still full of engineers. But if you notice the
240. 42:15launch, I can show you the launch of the new voice model. They actually hired real actors and real writers to do a real launch video that
241. 42:26didn't suck. It wasn't just awkward engineers sitting around a tiny table. So we're we're kind of watching them
242. 42:34transition in real time from this engineeringheavy company to a consumer company. Us having to think about wait
243. 42:43why would I choose? So first of all I have to learn what's the difference between Soul Terra and Luna. And then if we go back to
244. 42:57what's this thing doing? It's still thinking. I'm going to go to a new chat GBT window. Hang on a sec.

331. 57:05Before the launch, we had an app called Codeex, which was the the Agentic coding platform that was similar to Anthropics
332. 57:19um Claude Code. And then within it, you could do some work things, but it was it was still called codeex. And then over in chat GPT,
333. 57:33[clears throat] you had access to the same models, but it was just chat GPT. Now chat GPT has two different modes.
334. 57:41It's got chat chat mode, which is like the old chat GPT, but it's still got access to things like connectors and
335. 57:52things like that. And then you've got this new work mode which allows [clears throat] you to write files to your computer
336. 58:02and you can use applications and skills. So you have two modes there and then you have a standalone chat GPT desktop act app
337. 58:15which also has two modes but those two modes are chat GPT work and chat GPT codeex or it's I guess it's just codeex
338. 58:25it's chat GPT work or it's codeex but no chat and then you have the mobile app which is the chat GPT app that has the chat
339. 58:36function it used to have a codeex function and that codeex function is now called remote. So what I would like is for you to
340. 58:49create an infographic that makes it clear where we were, where we are, and how all of those things came together. And if you have any
341. 59:02insight based on research or announcements where we're headed, that would be cool, too. But I want to be able to look at a single image that
342. 59:11shows me these three platforms of the web, the desktop app, the mobile app, the different modes within them, the different models,

389. 1:09:00that Mac index way higher in the engineering community. Um as as as tinkerable as PCs are, engineers tend to
390. 1:09:11like Macs. They because they run on Linux and I think they just like how they run and they're they're just they're just good machines.

399. 1:10:43prefer PCs due to window exclusive CAD and simulation software. That makes perfect sense. Software engineers and
400. 1:10:50computer scientists lean toward Macs for their Unix based command line and native development. Perfect. That is a be I
401. 1:10:58always found it weird why engineers liked Mac and now now that makes sense to me. Here's a cool thing that Fable has been doing.
402. 1:11:09So, you know, for years if you were on a Mac and you wanted to play video games, you were [ __ ] out of luck because all
403. 1:11:17the video games were made for PCs because the install base was bigger. There are people now making cartridge
404. 1:11:24games and old PC games that run natively on Linux and Mac um by just telling Fable to go port it [laughter]
405. 1:11:35and it's just porting it over and it works. Um, so I think we may see a resurgence of all sorts of cool games
406. 1:11:43that you could never play on a Mac that we're now going to be able to play on a Mac. Uh, which is kind of cool. Kind of
407. 1:11:49cute. Okay. All right. Let's go back to screen sharing here. Okay. So you've got work mode for getting stuff done and you've got codeex

409. 1:12:19Oh and they have actually added chat. So this was one of my questions. So the website has chat and work. The app has
410. 1:12:33defaults to work but it has this chat thing here. So it pops up a chat window. Okay. So this is chat. Now again the difference between work
411. 1:12:48and codeex seems to be that codeex allows you to make pull requests visible. But it looks like everything else is the
412. 1:12:57same. And then chat just doesn't have any of that [ __ ] Chat's just simple. This is a temporary state. Mark my
413. 1:13:07words. This is This three-headed beast is not going to be here for long. Three months. Six months. Six months. It's going to be here for
414. 1:13:17six months. Um this this is going to distill down into a single app. It's gonna distill down, but it's it hasn't yet. So, good lord.

420. 1:14:34Pro M5, I've got it configured so that I can close the lid and it stays awake. So, it's just sitting over there closed,
421. 1:14:42but it's running. And so, in fact, when I flip over when I flip over to show you all Yeah, I got it. When I flip over to show you all this
422. 1:14:57thing. So, here's work. Let's see. Projects. Um, this window is my is my Mac computer. So
423. 1:15:13I'm like teleporting into this thing. And so it's running Tailscale and it's running LM Studio and it's running
424. 1:15:20Claude and it's running Terminal and it's running Keynote. Should probably not have Keynote running actually now that I think about it.
425. 1:15:28That's just eating RAM. Um, but what happens is when you first run this remote option on your phone,
426. 1:15:44what it's going to do is it's going to say, do you want to configure this with with another instance on your account,
427. 1:15:52you know, another app that's running? So, basically, you initiate it here and then you go to your desktop machine and
428. 1:15:58you say, "Yes, I want to connect these two." You basically give them permission to talk to one another. And then once
429. 1:16:03it's connected, I can now go in and I can go into any of my existing chats or I can generate a new chat and and
430. 1:16:11basically from my phone kick off a codeex or or chat GBT work instance on that machine. It's it's pretty slick.
431. 1:16:21This is where I think I was saying this I don't know a month or two ago. For years, I haven't given a [ __ ] about
432. 1:16:28the the the smart glasses, right? Because I just like the whatever. I can go around and I can take pictures of
433. 1:16:34[ __ ] all the time, whatever. But especially if they have some sort of display in them, rather than me having
434. 1:16:43to dig my phone out of my pocket, like I get just like a little buzz behind my ear that says, "Hey, you've got to make
435. 1:16:49a decision." and a little thing pops up and says, you know, I've created the the Excel file for you. Do you want to look
436. 1:16:56at it? And I could quickly just look at it and go, yeah, that looks right. Continue. And it would continue doing
437. 1:17:02its thing. So, I could see glasses being a non-interruptive way to do what dispatch does. I still don't understand
438. 1:17:10the difference between the web app and the desktop app. I know how to visually tell the difference, but I don't know
439. 1:17:17how they differ in functionality. I don't know exactly how they differ in functionality. I know that the desktop app, Kelly,
440. 1:17:25can can do command line interface stuff. So, the desktop app can run your computer, can can run browsers, can do
441. 1:17:34things like that. The thing that confuses it is that the web app also has access to apps and can surf the web.
442. 1:17:46and and I don't know if the web app can actually write files to your computer. I think it cannot. So I think the biggest
443. 1:17:54difference is the chat GPT desktop app has access to your file structure on your computer which Matt Schumer Schumer was it Schumer?
444. 1:18:10What was his name? [laughter] I don't know. I don't know what his name was. Um, but Codeex erased the files from his hard drive
445. 1:18:22because it had access to his hard drive. That was the standalone app. I think that's the biggest difference. Kelly,

453. 1:19:34about the phase we're in right now. We're in a liinal state. We're we're in a state between when AI tools were these discrete tools
454. 1:19:45that human beings used to this state where these software applications that were designed for engineers to do programming
455. 1:19:59have now been kind of flipped and handed to us as consumer software. They're not consumer software. They're engineering platforms with nicer
456. 1:20:12labels on them. And so, as someone who's used to using kind of consumerry chat GPT, which when it was still simple, it was decently
457. 1:20:25consumery, right? It was a simple box. You typed in it and you were kind of done. Then they added all these features
458. 1:20:30and now it's all [ __ ] complicated again. But but we're in this liinal state where we've got the difference between chat
459. 1:20:38GPT and chatgpt work is he and the difference between work and codeex is there's just there's all this overlap.
460. 1:20:46It's ultimately going to come together into something and then the next evolution of it will be all of
461. 1:20:53the complexity is going to drop behind the curtain and it'll go back to being simple. But I think that's probably a
462. 1:21:00year and a half away. So this is [cough] why there's why there's opportunity right now is because we're early.
463. 1:21:15If you wait until the apps get easy to use, well then everyone will be using them. So the opportunity means you have
464. 1:21:23to geek out a little bit. So that's just All right, cool. Isn't the web app in a browser and the desktop app is a standalone app? Yes,
465. 1:21:32that's correct. Absolutely, Vicki from an icon in your toolbar. Yes, that's correct. The better it gets, the more confused I
466. 1:21:44get. It's not getting better. Make no mistake, these agentic harnesses are just adding features. So if you if
467. 1:21:58if you've been around long enough to un to remember the the evolution of Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word was a basic word
468. 1:22:06processor that it was a good word processor. Then it was a really fine word processor and they just kept adding
469. 1:22:12features and there was a version of Microsoft Word called Microsoft Word 5.1 and it was considered the pinnacle of
470. 1:22:22the right balance of all the advanced features you need but not too many and then every version of Microsoft Word
471. 1:22:30since then has been bloatware right way too many features way too much [ __ ] we just it's impossible possible to
472. 1:22:39understand what to do in it. To the point at one point Microsoft re-released Microsoft 5.1 because people hated how
473. 1:22:48complicated it had gotten. That's what's happening right now. Like we have passed the point of no return.
474. 1:22:55They're just adding features to these things to try to appease developers and investors and their engineers come up with some thing
475. 1:23:04and they dump it in there and then Anthropic did a thing so they dump Anthropic came up with skills so now
476. 1:23:12they have to add skills but they've also got apps and now they add apps and projects and connectors and MCP and just
477. 1:23:20all the [ __ ] It's not getting better. It's just getting more complicated. What will happen is as people use the tools,
478. 1:23:30the labs will realize, okay, these four features no one uses. They're complicated and redundant with this
479. 1:23:38other feature. So, at some point they'll start callulling them out and then at some point they'll start putting
480. 1:23:43interface on top of them that will just hide all that complexity. It's just that's just where we are right now. So,
481. 1:23:49you are right to want something better. Uh, we're just not there yet. Okay. Um, I'm in the process of teaching
482. 1:23:57at a local college, both Claude and Chat GBT. Every week when I try to show students where to find accessory tools,
483. 1:24:03they have moved literally every week. It the fact that they just added a site builder in the middle of chat GPT just

501. 1:26:21Macintosh. Using a Mac is a little different than using a PC. It's not so much operating the computer as it is
502. 1:26:25sort of tricking it, fooling it into doing what it is you really want it to do. Uh, you kind of have to sneak up on
503. 1:26:30a Mac. I don't feel like I'm operating the Mac so much as I'm just there sharing the Mac experience. And if I can
504. 1:26:37while the Mac is willing, so much the better. One of the coolest features of the Macintosh is it's really easy to
505. 1:26:42shut down. Uh, all you have to do is be using a piece of software and then poof, it goes away. It's gone. It shut down.
506. 1:26:49You didn't push any buttons. You didn't close. You didn't even save. It's just gone. Unless you want to shut down a
507. 1:26:53Mac. Oh, that's a whole another story. I mean, you try to close a program and it locks up. And then you do that funny
508. 1:26:58what is it? The clover leaf period thing. These unnatural and ultimately useless interrupt keys. Then nothing
509. 1:27:03moves. Then you push the power button and it won't turn off. You go around and unplug it. And you better hope you're
510. 1:27:08not on a laptop cuz then you got to find the damn battery and try to pull that out or the thing will never shut down.
511. 1:27:13So I put my CD in the CDROM tray and I'm copying media off that CD, dragging it onto my desktop, dragging it onto my
512. 1:27:18desktop, dragging it onto my desktop. I eject it and where did my files go? It's the only operating system I know of
513. 1:27:23where click and drag does not mean you actually copy or move anything. No, you're just making shortcuts on your
514. 1:27:28desktop. So, I've got my next CD and I slam it into the CDROM tray and lo and behold, it starts playing all by itself.
515. 1:27:34I'm looking for a way to turn it off. Finally, out of desperation, I click and drag the CD into the garbage can. The
516. 1:27:39system locks up. So, I go to the Clover Leaf period spacebar thing, hoping I can stop the program. And I get a little
517. 1:27:45caution window saying, "Carefully, interrupting this program may lock up the system." I try to click okay, BUT
518. 1:27:50THE SYSTEM'S ALREADY LOCKED UP. I LIKE THE HANDLE HERE. That's so you can attach a chain and use it as a boat
519. 1:27:55anchor. The mag is practicing some kind of bizarre psychological warfare on me because I'm working late at night. Out
520. 1:28:00of the corner of my eye, I keep seeing this thing, jumping up and down. The update manager is bouncing at the bottom
521. 1:28:06of the screen like a Jack Russell [ __ ] terrier. So, I'm looking around in the list of the files trying to find
522. 1:28:11the executable it wants me to update. And if I click on any one of them by accident, I rename it. Oh no, it's been
523. 1:28:17renamed nothing. it was some kind of important system file and the computer crashes. On a PC, no data is really
524. 1:28:22lost. I mean, there's a way to unddelete a file. If you know what you're doing in DOS, you can go in and recover anything
525. 1:28:27that's been corrupted. On a Mac, if you lose a file, you run to the store, get a copy of the Mac version of Norton
526. 1:28:32Utilities. You run back only to have Norton go, "YOU IDIOT, YOU OWN A MACINTOSH. THE FILE IS [ __ ] GONE.
527. 1:28:39IT'S JUST GONE." DON'T have any tools or any kind of buttons or whatever dials or switches in the bottom of the screen
528. 1:28:44because if you reach for them, a dock menu COMES UP. GOT TO LIKE angle around and slide and dodge the thing to get to the control.
529. 1:28:53It's kind of like boxing with your computer. I can put IT ON THE BOTTOM. I can put it on the left. I CAN PUT IT ON
