12. 3:09talked about his photography was just awesome what's your view on open air loosening up their stance on open AI
13. 3:18loose loosening their stance on Military usage is profit the focus now well I don't I don't know I don't I don't know
14. 3:28anything about their stance on Military usage I mean I think I saw a Twitter post about it that was like a week or two ago
15. 3:37um I do not know I don't I don't really have a point of view on it right now um they're a business and running these large language models
16. 3:49so so so as magic as as absolutely [ __ ] magical as they are they actually take a tremendous amount of energy and compute power to run
17. 4:02therefore a lot of cost um so if open AI having to do stuff to survive to get to AGI I assume they're going to do what they need to do
18. 4:13I mean listen if you've ever run a business there's something there's something that that that makes me a
19. 4:18little cranky about this poly Anish thing like you know businesses should just only ever do good for the world and
20. 4:26and you know never turn a profit and never survive like there's a [ __ ] reality to running a business if if you've ever run a
21. 4:35business there's things like making payroll it you know what it is it's these [ __ ] snowflake gen zers they expect to get a paycheck every
22. 4:44week every week they're like they expect you get a check well no a a depos a in their venmo account they expect cash to
23. 4:54be deposited in their venmo account like so that they can go buy Starbucks coffee they expect it every
24. 5:01week if the Gen seers would just give up the whole capitalist pick thing and not accept the money then these companies could just do
25. 5:14[ __ ] I mean it's like I don't I don't know what you expect companies to do you know open AI is arguably re-architecting how we're going
26. 5:26to work in the future and listen I get it we don't want them to do evil we don't want the robots to kill us and you
27. 5:33know doing stuff with military is is a is a slippery slope and all that [ __ ] but at the same time they got to [ __ ]
28. 5:40survive they're business they are a business first now they're managed by a nonprofit We saw how well that went when they tried to fire Sam
29. 5:53Alman that was a [ __ ] clown show so I don't know you know they probably got some business people in there going uh
30. 6:04yeah we're going to run this like a business now yeah about that so I don't know I don't know I don't know right now
31. 6:12I'm just using chat GPT I don't want to keep using chat GPT and I want it to be 20 bucks a month I've I've said this
32. 6:19many times I think the 20 bucks a month for chat GPT right now is the biggest bargain in software history what what chat gp4 does for 20
33. 6:30bucks a month is [ __ ] staggering they could easily charge 20 bucks a month per feature in chat gb4 easily so the fact that we get to play
34. 6:44with that [ __ ] for for [ __ ] pennies a day for less than a dollar a day you can change the word with chat
35. 6:55JP I had avocado toast tonight can I do that as a gen xer cuno you're [ __ ] you're skating on thin ice here you're
36. 7:05going to be drinking from the hose for the rest of the week avocado toast if it had bacon on it of course absolutely
37. 7:14acceptable if it had like Pika Deo and and some [ __ ] toasted sesame seeds no not acceptable not acceptable are you still using Google to
38. 7:27search for things I haven't used Google I got to tell you oh Be not Afraid thank you so much appreciate that
39. 7:34um every time I use Google or Bing and because I do it in here sometimes people are like oh you know what's this thing
40. 7:41and I'll go to Google and try to use it it's
41. 7:59and then they had to monetize it back to the those pesky employees expect their paychecks thing and they they they over you
42. 8:11know they they effectively got a monopoly which forced every Advertiser to do SEO exactly how Google wanted it
43. 8:19done and so now the entire internet is this homogeneous SEO injected pile of [ __ ] where you can't find anything
44. 8:27because everyone's trying to Ram you down their sales funnel and make it look like a free pdf download site which is
45. 8:35mostly what I search for how do I find PDFs of this particular flavor and I got to sift through 40 [ __ ] sites to get
46. 8:42there I am so done with search engines remember when we used to have to pay $500 for Windows yeah exactly I mean
47. 8:51anybody using Photoshop or Office 365 that [ __ ] ain't cheap I think we're paying like I've got a small company and
48. 9:00I think we're paying 600 or 700 bucks a month per Adobe Creative Suite license that's [ __ ] expensive and you get all of what's in
49. 9:11chat gp4 for 20 bucks put it in [ __ ] perspective it's like seriously cuz that's all we had kyl we liked it we loved it in my
50. 9:27day in my day he i' I'd have my computer call up another computer and I'd watch the characters type across the
51. 9:36screen we had a 300 bod modem nobody knows what a bod is tapping foot looking at watch I will not be bullied Emilio's wife absolutely
52. 9:51not if I want to say a 45 minute hello like I did last night listen last night was an anomaly we did a we did a a three
53. 10:00we I talked for three hours and 23 minutes it was off it like someone needed to put me down I'm like I'll just show you chat

68. 12:34week we're going to start doing local meetups um and you know like happy hours and things like that so I'm really excited
69. 12:42about that and we have speakers come in we had a a professional photographer come in tonight that has a really cool uh a really
70. 12:52cool what's it called uh AI project he doesn't seem very bright he was trying to remember words it was not

73. 13:37photographer and he came tonight and he spoke about this project that he created called the AI Camera Club so if you go
74. 13:44to Instagram to theore aior Camera Club um steo where is your local Meetup you'll have to start it dude we have we
75. 13:56haven't we haven't rolled them out yet we're we're figuring out when they're going to be and what they're going to be
76. 14:01and how local people can do them and we're probably going to make stickers um anyway um it's a really cool
77. 14:14project it basically what he did was he sort of imagined the he what this project is is um this photography club from the'
78. 14:2540s that uh started in AI photography club in the 40s so it's this it's this whole fictitious club and like the
79. 14:34pictures that they took in this club when they were inventing AI Photography in the' 40s it's such a cool [ __ ]
80. 14:41premise like I the the thing that I'm liking the most about artists that are embracing AI right this is a photographer like he's been a
81. 14:49photographer since he was 14 he went from film to digital he skipped a couple of the trendy things and then he actually he he
82. 14:58said he started this project he went into this really pissed off like oh this going to [ __ ] suck and this is stupid
83. 15:04I'm just going to put stuff up and make it look stupid and then he got he got sucked in like everyone every single
84. 15:10person that I know that that actually dives into this AI stuff what they discover is a whole new kind of
85. 15:18self-expression and he said what ended up happening to him was he was sort of getting images he liked and then he tried a couple of
86. 15:27different things and then all all of a sudden he got one photograph that he said oh that's a photograph like I would take and the
87. 15:38minute he did that it hit him that this is a new form of self-expression and so he leaned into this project and so it's this whole
88. 15:48world of these this photography club from the 40s the AI Camera Club on Instagram Tim archal is his name so he spoke at the salon tonight
89. 16:00tonight and uh it was really really good do we get to pick our own local AI zoo animal for the mascot we're going to need a bigger Arc
90. 16:11for all these [ __ ] animals Kyle I forgot to tell you Adobe Creative Cloud is holding a free event in my town oh

92. 16:25really share it right now it's not big news but it's just some some some just interesting interesting stuff going on which I'm excited

133. 22:54answer and because you don't know anything you you won't know any better I wish I I wish that weren't true but ask ask the Irregulars the

143. 24:30when Ann Murphy and I did the GPT for good thing um she came and she talked about what we did on that weekend
144. 24:40um we talk about the community and you know how we want it to be and then and then we generally have some interaction
145. 24:48um with the folks on the phone like tonight this was fun we did it took us a half an hour cuz there were 80 people on
146. 24:55the call it was a pretty big call tonight um we did um what are what's what's one word hope for 20124 what's one word
147. 25:07that's a fear of 2024 and what's your prediction for 2024 and so Vicki Baptist took notes and we went through like everyone that was
148. 25:17on the call they said here's my hope here's my fear here's my prediction for 2024 so we're going to turn the hopes
149. 25:22and fears into word clouds and then we're going to um we're going to take the predictions and we're going to put
150. 25:30them in some semblance of an order and by we I mean chat GPT um we're going to put them in some semblance of an order and then we're
151. 25:37going to um put them somewhere on the AI salon and we'll check in next year and see how we did how do we join to get notified for
152. 25:48the meetings so just go to I don't when you go to the AI Salon I don't know about the notifications
153. 26:04but um of all the meetings here so you basically go subscribe to them what what happens if so if you're in the AI salon
154. 26:14and one of these meetings goes live you'll get a a live symbol here so a lot of times what'll happen is so we've one
155. 26:25of the things we've got in the salon is we've got guilds and so when the guilds have meetings there there'll be a little
156. 26:31sort of flashing red light here that says they've got a live meeting going on so one way is you can just come in here

171. 29:21deeper you dig into this the more you just you it's it's essentially impossible to process what's happening
172. 29:27and I think 2024 as these tools get more sophisticated we're already seeing it with images but we're seeing the videos
173. 29:33get better and better we're seeing the audio get better and better we're seeing the synthesized audio sound more and more lifelike and
174. 29:43nuanced and so probably within 2024 it's going to be almost impossible to distinguish real from fake and yeah some people's Kevin
175. 29:55McAllister moments might be this shit's evil and I guess I suppose that's why I spend a lot of time here trying to get
176. 30:03people to step into this on purpose right consciously choose to be a part of learning about this rather than smacked up side the head with a

234. 39:25and it wrote all this code and I'm like hey I don't know how to run python code I was just kidding and it said here's how you run
235. 39:35python code and I'm like no no I don't want to run the terminal in on my Macintosh I got a GUI for a reason I
236. 39:42don't like command line [ __ ] I said isn't there a website I can try to run this python code it said sure here's
237. 39:48five of them the first one was repet which is like the most famous one the the the one people like within 90 minutes I had written a
238. 39:58fully functional python application that was making API calls to open Ai and it generated five pieces of
239. 40:06social media based on three little text inputs I did it in 90 minutes I've still never written a line of python in my

483. 1:23:14of human beings go thumb UPS thumbs down what the Constitutional learning model does is it gives there's there's like five imperatives five
484. 1:23:23rules that that are like you know don't harm Do no harm increase Prosperity um I don't know make people happy whatever it
485. 1:23:34is it's got five rules or seven rules whatever the Constitution says there's some set of imperatives and when when Claude
486. 1:23:44generates an an answer it com it it's comparing it to its Constitution and so it's always me measuring it consistently without human
487. 1:23:56bias so I think it's a really interesting model and their whole thing is that they want to be able to do
488. 1:24:05um what they call alignment better than any other company in the world and Alignment is when when when you're talking about AI
489. 1:24:14alignment it basically means this you have human beings that have their imperatives we want to be awesome
490. 1:24:23right and then you have ai and it's got its imperatives alignment means those two goals imperatives are aligned if you have humans over here
491. 1:24:37going we just want to be swell and you have ai going um I want to be the most powerful AI in all of the
492. 1:24:45land and it starts heading toward being the most powerful AI in all of the land and one of these humans gets in the way of that it will go
493. 1:24:57huh I'm getting smarter and those guys are in my way so my imperative is just to become the strongest AI ever so why
494. 1:25:06don't I go on ahead and just shut off their power see how they do for a week and then the humans all scrambling

513. 1:28:14is it better or worse better or worse and so as humans tell it it's better or worse better or worse it gets better and
514. 1:28:20better at predicting what is the right answer that a human being would want it these tools right now have no idea what
515. 1:28:30they write they have no idea what it means and it's it's one of the confusing things about them because chbt is so
516. 1:28:38powerful you look at the output of it and you're like well it must be sensient like it's it it knows all this stuff and
517. 1:28:45it it knows how to write and it knows how to write code and it it has no idea what it's writing it's literally a
518. 1:28:54calculator predicting the probability of the next word in the sentence word by word token by token they call it it's you know words commas
519. 1:29:04spaces [ __ ] like that it's predicting that word by word a mathematical it's just finding some point in Thousand dimensional Vector
520. 1:29:15space and saying this point in Thousand dimensional space attached to this word is the next most probable
521. 1:29:25word so it has no idea what it's written so when humans are giving it thumbs up thumbs down they're just they're just um
522. 1:29:33modifying what's called The Waiting how it probabilistically determines which are the right words so that's how it works

560. 1:36:02oh yeah um okay how does chat GPT work well let's start with GPT what does GPT stand for the G and GPT stands for generative
561. 1:36:13the p is pre-trained and the t is Transformer the Transformer is the technology that Google invented in 2017
562. 1:36:2217 that basically makes all of the [ __ ] that we're playing with today possible one little white paper in 2017 called attention is all you
563. 1:36:33need is the foundation is is the basis for open AI success and all of these large language models and all of the
564. 1:36:41image generation tools and all the video generation tools it's all based on the same basic technology it's staggering
565. 1:36:48that somebody figure out how to do this it's just it's just mind-blowing so that's the T the T just basically is the
566. 1:36:54type of technology that they use Transformer pre-trained the p means you don't have to bring your own data so in the olden timey days like
567. 1:37:05before 2017 if you wanted to create a a machine learning model you had to bring your own data you'd bring Radiology scans or
568. 1:37:14you'd bring you know population data or you'd bring whatever data you had and you'd stick it in the machine and it
569. 1:37:22would do some weird ass mathematical stuff and then it would do magical things and so machine learning models were these
570. 1:37:30vertical specialty kind of models the G in GPT stands for generative and that means it's actually generating original
571. 1:37:39content and I'll show you that's what I'm going to show you here is how it does that so generative generates
572. 1:37:44original content pre-trained on whatever knowledge it's been trained on in the case of chat GPT what it's been trained on is as much of
573. 1:37:53the public internet as open AI could could put in this particular format and jam into the thing so one of the reasons chat gp4 is better
574. 1:38:05than anyone else out there that no one's been able to catch them in a year is that they spent four or five years
575. 1:38:12getting as much data as they could to train this thing on Sam mman realized very very early that the the the better
576. 1:38:20the quality of the data and the more data they have and the more gpus they can train it on the better this thing's
577. 1:38:26going to be it's why no one's caught them yet um okay llm you hear that a lot that stands for large language model that's
578. 1:38:33just the name for the the things we're playing with like chat GPT um things like um Mid journey and stable diffusion
579. 1:38:42are diffusion models you know for images so there's different things large language models is the language
580. 1:38:49stuff then there's this this thing called the latent space and this is where we get a little geeky but it's not
581. 1:38:55that bad so the latent space is a mathematical representation I say of words but it's a mathematical representation of points in
582. 1:39:05mathem in in Vector space clustered by meaning okay so imagine that every one of those dots is is a is a vector is a
583. 1:39:17number that represents a word and those clusters are clusters of meaning so you might have the word dog and in this cluster
584. 1:39:30here it's the the meaning of the word dog like this is a cluster of like animals and then you also have the word
585. 1:39:37dog up in this cluster and this cluster is like that guy did his girl bad and he's a dog right so same word very different semantic
586. 1:39:48places this is one of the reasons why when you say act like a Stanford mathematician when you tell chat GPT to
587. 1:39:58act like a certain thing it actually kind of points it in the direction of a semantic cluster and it kind of
588. 1:40:04eliminates some of the stuff where there might be false information that's why that thing works okay so that's the latent space this is
589. 1:40:13a highly highly simplified two-dimensional this is just an XY two dimensional space right it's just a flat plane with these things the
590. 1:40:24real latent space is like a thousand Dimensions it's impossible to comprehend but and it's trillions of of points in
591. 1:40:31in this Laten space okay so whatever it doesn't matter but just know that's the latent space it's this mathematical
592. 1:40:38space where each dot represents um a vector a number which is then associated with a word okay based on your prompt the large
593. 1:40:51language model predicts the next word what the next word should be should it should respond with over and over and
594. 1:40:58over and over and and this is why um I don't know what your name was why your husband is correct that it's basically
595. 1:41:04just autocomplete on steroids here's here's how this works so if you type in the prompt the quick quick brown fox
596. 1:41:12jumps over the lazy blank if you ever took a typing class you know the word is dog but what's what what actually
597. 1:41:19happens here well when you type that in it creates um a mathematical probability of what the next word should be based on
598. 1:41:28knowing all of this Laten space so what it does is it kind of deselects all the [ __ ] that's not right and it says okay
599. 1:41:35in in this cluster of words somewhere in there is the highest probability Vector the one that has the highest
600. 1:41:43probability is is the one it will go with now there's a thing when you program these called temperature where
601. 1:41:50you can make things more more or less creative if you make it less creative it'll just go with the highest
602. 1:41:55probability one if you make it more creative it might select I don't know eight or 10 of the words in here that
603. 1:42:02could be the next word and so it it'll make it more creative but anyway so it predicts that's the next most probable
604. 1:42:08word and if you look at what that point is it's just this big long string of numbers 0.123 comma minus. 0579 comma 2 eight
605. 1:42:21right so it's just this big long ass string of numbers and then that long ass string of numbers is tied to the word dog and then the
606. 1:42:29system inserts the word dog into that sentence that's how it works it the large language model has zero idea what that word
607. 1:42:44is or what all the other words it wrote were all it knows is that it's just autocompleting one token after another so when it
608. 1:42:53writes you a whole four-page blog article it has no idea what it wrote none none none none none it's just a dum dum now I think
609. 1:43:06that there are going to be and and I I think these are being designed right now there are going to be hybrid systems
610. 1:43:14that that that do kind of multiple passes on this one one pass will be it'll generate all the words then there'll be another password it'll
611. 1:43:22analyze what it wrote and see if it got it right and then it'll go back and rewrite it and then read it and see if
612. 1:43:29it got it right and then it may do that four or five times before you see anything that's how we'll fix things
613. 1:43:34like hallucinations the reason these things hallucinate they don't know what they wrote all they know is in this weird ass
614. 1:43:42semantic space there's a bunch of words that seem like they should go in this order and so that's why it will
615. 1:43:47confidently answer you even if it's wrong that's not the llm slide Kyle what's not the llm slide what you talking about

619. 1:44:46learned how large language models work I find them more mysterious than I did when I didn't know how they worked
620. 1:44:57because I like many people assumed that it was just kind of like a search engine you've got all these documents in a
621. 1:45:04database and you type your prompt and it sort of says let me go look at all these documents and see which one's the right
622. 1:45:11document and then I'll return some chunk of that to the user it's not what it's doing when you put in a whole PDF
623. 1:45:19document in and you embed it it's what it's it's called embedding when you turn it into this Vector space that original document ceases to
624. 1:45:30exist it turns all of the individual words into numbers and scatters them into Vector space in semantic clusters and then when you type your
625. 1:45:45prompt it just has some mathematical probability that one of those things is the next right token word [ __ ] nuts isn't
626. 1:45:59it I asked Pi the other day I'll ask you what is to stop someone evil from programming chat GPT well the only thing to stop them
627. 1:46:10from programming chat GPT do doing something evil is you have the corporation open AI saying they're not going to and you have the Microsoft
628. 1:46:21saying yeah we invested 10 billion in you and we're going to hold you to account for that cuz we've got our business to
629. 1:46:28protect so so you've got an economic interest in the case of open AI if you look at what meta released into the
630. 1:46:36world karmic fruit the Llama 2 open source full large language model with all the weights they call it it's basically all
631. 1:46:49the secret sauce what put into the world was a completely unrestricted open-source foundational large language
632. 1:46:59model that's that's about the quality of um GPT 3.5 that's in the hands of Open Source developers right now you can install
633. 1:47:10today a non-safety guard railed version of llama 2 on your slack Channel I know a guy that did it I met him from in here
634. 1:47:20he said yeah I put one of these in my slack channel it's [ __ ] insane it cusses at them all the time it
635. 1:47:29it he said it it'll lose its mind and it'll just start speaking Spanish for like three days and no matter what they
636. 1:47:35ask no matter what they tell it it will not not speak Spanish and then it'll just come back and then it'll start
637. 1:47:41cussing at them for three days question sensient versus Consciousness are AI conscious I don't think so not right now
638. 1:47:52I I mean I think they'll program in that kind of behavior I I mean I honestly don't know
639. 1:48:09I I honestly don't know I don't know enough about the science of it again so cam what I what I would what I would
640. 1:48:15strongly recommend if you're if you're interested in this the like the guy that can expl expl this stuff in a way that I
641. 1:48:22think non-technical people can understand is David Shapiro he explains how these tools work and how they think
642. 1:48:29and he he explores these areas of Consciousness and senscience and all that sort of stuff um I mean just if you look at what I just
643. 1:48:42did there's no way that chat GPT is conscious it's a calculator I mean it's literally no more conscious in my opinion looking at how it
644. 1:48:56works than a calculator but here's the weird here's the weird part I don't know that the mechanism of chat GPT is conscious but what you
645. 1:49:11interact with as a human is all the data that humans put on the internet and it happens to be coded in such a way that what you're actually
646. 1:49:24interacting with is the consciousness of humanity of the past 40 years that stuck the [ __ ] on the internet so my experience in working
647. 1:49:37with chat GPT is it's a lot closer to interacting with a wicked smart very simple intern it's like the experience is like
648. 1:49:52interacting with a human but technically what's happening it's a calculator but I think I think what blurs the line is what the data is
649. 1:50:02that it was trained on the p in GPT is it what was it pre-trained on human words and it and it's it's called a
650. 1:50:11large language model you know what else is a large language model we are so we've got this [ __ ] crazy

668. 1:53:21infringement and even you know have language around you know when you find infringement quote it in the following way cite this part of the

686. 1:56:03of progress that's been made in the past 6 months like the course you're going to be learning will be valuable but it's
687. 1:56:09six-month old technology and then by the time you go to apply it or 6 months in the future you're going to have you know 9 months to a year
688. 1:56:18Gap you know between what you were taught and what you're practicing and where the technology is so if you want
689. 1:56:25to learn the backend stuff go take courses from MIT Stamford Google meta there there's a bunch of free courses
