212. 44:26these servo Spin and it's pulling pulley and wire it's like it's it's a very primitive kind of thing the um the resin
213. 44:35printers are less primitive cuz those are using light those are kind of those are a bit more sexy but just watching a
214. 44:41computer you know Drive the print head is is I find it endlessly fascinating yeah very cool um okay so
215. 44:53here's here's here's what I want to talk about an important thing to understand with AI
216. 45:10these days is that there are a lot of different things you can do there are a lot of different tools and you need to understand what the
217. 45:21tools are and how to use them to some degree I feel like we're in the middle of an inflection point right
218. 45:31now where we're going to be in a very different place 6 months from now I don't think learning specific tools is
219. 45:38as critical as it was when we started this channel I think what's more important is your attitude
220. 45:58all of our attitudes and a a big part of the attitude of this channel is like [ __ ] it let's just go play with it
221. 46:10and that attitude's actually really important in in my opinion and and becoming increasingly important and so there's there's a
222. 46:18playfulness that I think is actually important there's there's a uh a sense of curiosity there's there's a drive to want
223. 46:34to figure it out and that's evidenced in this channel by the Irregulars so the people who show up here night after night after
224. 46:45night if this is your first time here your response must be wait a minute people show up here night after night
225. 46:52the [ __ ] is wrong with them they're not weird they're irregular but they have a drive they have a there's a something that they've tapped
226. 47:01into that I've tapped into which is holy [ __ ] we need to pay attention to this and there's a willingness
227. 47:10to experiment and try and refine and build and get completely [ __ ] overwhelmed and take a couple of weeks
228. 47:19off and then come back at it and just that drive there's an adaptability people realizing oh yeah I'm still a copywriter but now I'm

230. 47:37still an art director but I'm going to have to adapt how I do what I do so so there's this there's all these components of
231. 47:49behavior that I think are going to be required moving into the future as as especially as AI tools get
232. 47:56more and more important so that's what that's what where I'm going to shift the focus of the conversation over the next
233. 48:033 to 6 months is just how do we explore those abilities to be more flexible to be more Innovative right because change is
234. 48:20hard change is weird and especially with this AI stuff like a lot of people in this channel have spent a lot of time building
235. 48:29things that upon building them realized well I probably won't use that anymore but it's I've built it now I know what
236. 48:35that is other teachers are starting to come to me to ask about AI oh that's cool Alan Mr Studio dhj very cool send

238. 48:51that I want to focus on is who we're being how we're being one of the other attributes that I think is critical with AI is bravery so so you
239. 49:04know you've got Mr K in here who's a teacher that teaches in a district that upon them finding out that he was
240. 49:10teaching AI said not only can he not teach AI he can't even mention it anymore which pisses me off to no end
241. 49:19but he's still out there talking about it um I hope he's doing Saturday classes that are opt in non affiliated with the
242. 49:28school um Allan here teaches as well and is doing all sorts of things and now other teachers are reaching out to him
243. 49:39so you know we're going to start to see as you as you as you become brave enough to say [ __ ] it I'm going to talk about what I'm doing in

268. 55:16me I don't give a [ __ ] if you made some AI art and you're proud of it share it well I've got artist friends well you've

273. 56:34get she's starting to get companies asking her to do work and at some point she's going to get enough work that she's not going to be
274. 56:45able to do it herself she's going to need to hire other people do you think she's going to hire any of these
275. 56:51people you know who these people are these are people that are polishing up their LinkedIn resume right
276. 56:59now I was trained in project management and I've been a project manager for 22 years and uh if you're looking for a
277. 57:05project manager I like project manager and that's these people nothing wrong with being a project manager but as AI gets more powerful and
278. 57:17more desirable and more and more companies are trying to figure it out they're going to say who are these
279. 57:22people that's Kelly I want to talk to Kelly and then if if Kelly's too busy and can't do all that work who's she going
280. 57:30to hire she's going to hire one of those four idiots cuz at least they're on the [ __ ] Hill at least they're trying to figure
281. 57:38out how to dance right so the [ __ ] does that have to do with AI that the week
282. 57:53after cat GPT launched Leah f and I launched the salon and the salon is a community of AI enthusiasts so if you go there that'll take you to

284. 58:18community you'll see there's a little six-step onboarding process and the first one is just learn about the on
285. 58:27keyboard yes Silver Fox good call it's like you've done this before I'm not weird I'm an a regular all right that's fine no need to get
286. 58:41defensive Lee and I are going to we're going to replace this image with a video a welcome video of she and I welcome welcoming people in
287. 58:50but at the salon we play first joyfully exploring generative AI gaining the knowledge and inspiration pause right there what do we do play
288. 59:05first dance on the hill it's funny I'm I'm working with someone who's sponsoring the salon right now
289. 59:19and his relationship with the word play was he didn't understand it it's like what are you talking about
290. 59:27this is this is deadly serious stuff this is AI this it's going to change the world yeah it is and it is so different
291. 59:37it is so foreign from how we do stuff now that the only way I know to learn it is to play is to not try to replicate what you
292. 59:51know how to do today because generative AI the G in GP T generative means that computers using this technology behave in a completely
293. 1:00:04different way than they ever have in the past computers used to compute and here's what I mean by that you would
294. 1:00:12give them some piece of data and they would compute on it and then some modified version of that data would come out the other
295. 1:00:22side with generative AI you give it an input and it's actually generating net new content out of its training data so
296. 1:00:33all of this data has been jammed into these things and we can just tap into it like [ __ ] magic and so the only way to really
297. 1:00:45understand what that even means is to play with it with no expectations so that's why we we say the first step to AI literacy is play
298. 1:00:56joyfully exploring generative AI gaining the knowledge and inspiration the other thing that happens when you
299. 1:01:02play is that you have fun and you get inspired and it allows your [ __ ] imagination to open up and then you learn enough doing that
300. 1:01:13that you can move to the next step which is mindfully create surprising ourselves and powerfully meeting challenges unleashing us
301. 1:01:21to generously lead others enriching lives redefining what's possible and unlocking a new era of human achievement so so this simple little
302. 1:01:36journey is what the salon is all about and it's about doing it with those people on the hill
303. 1:01:51right and that's this is to me this is what the salon feels like right now there's there's 1,800 people in
304. 1:01:59there but most of those 18800 people are sitting on the hill or they they went to pee cuz they had too much beer they're not even on the
305. 1:02:12hill they're down checking their email on their phone next to their Mercury Cougar so the people that show up to
306. 1:02:22this channel are the weirdos on the hill the people that are active in the AI Salon are the weirdos on the hill so I would encourage you

364. 1:13:03um we're in a really interesting place right now here here's the here's the big parallel for for from where I come from the big parallel is
365. 1:13:14that the internet had been around for decades decades and it was you know this relatively specialized network of
366. 1:13:26computers that you know you would dial up to or if you worked at a university it would just be automatically connected
367. 1:13:32to your T1 trunk line or whatever the [ __ ] they called it and the internet was was mostly research papers and dissertations and libraries
368. 1:13:45and FTP servers hosted by libraries and then the worldwide web came along and but you had to to use it
369. 1:13:54you had to be technical you had to know how to dial into an FTP server and you had to know the commands to use to download files or upload
370. 1:14:04files and it was a geeky place and then Tim burners Lee creates the worldwide web and they create the first web
371. 1:14:14browser and so starting in you know early to mid90s all of a sudden to use the internet the only skill you had to have
372. 1:14:26was like could you click a mouse and if you wanted to make a page that had hyperlinks on it you had to
373. 1:14:39learn this really simple markup language called HTML and there were like six tags and it was simple like even a buffoon
374. 1:14:48like me could figure it out and so the worldwide web made the power of this Decades of Internet development accessible to the rest of
375. 1:15:02us that's what chat GPT did November 30th 2022 ai's been around for decades AI is in most of the software if you're using
376. 1:15:12SAS software right now there's AI in it it's been in there forever what shifted what changed and what the salon is really
377. 1:15:27about is what happens when you take something as powerful as AI as machine learning and rather than the requirement
378. 1:15:39being a math or engineering degree from Stanford or MIT what if the requirement is can you type words into a
379. 1:15:49box what kind of words any words you want make me a turtle and it does make me a poem about a turtle and
380. 1:16:03it does write me a game about a turtle and it does that fundamentally Alters
381. 1:16:17things I haven't been over here dancing by Myself for three three years glad you could join me I've been over here
382. 1:16:23dancing by Myself for three years that's hilarious P yeah exactly exactly so so more people are going to
383. 1:16:31start paying attention to this but this is that's what's different about it Pate has a PHD in mathematics and and the job
384. 1:16:39he does requires that but if you wanted to really play in the AI game before 2022 it really helped if you knew how to
385. 1:16:48code it really helped if you knew what servers were and what embeddings were and what weights were and and what the
386. 1:16:55Vector the Laten space was and what vectors were and how to understand tokens you don't have to do any of that [ __ ] now in
387. 1:17:08fact one of my favorite new parlor tricks and this is probably one Kelly to add to your list if you haven't already
388. 1:17:17because i' I've shown this in here A bunch but I'm going to I'm going to a site called Deco here which is an image generation site
389. 1:17:32and a video generation site and I'm going to go to the little explore tab at the top and we're just going to
390. 1:17:50watch so I haven't there's I have not prompted right no prompts we're just kind of Ooo Saucy we're just watching image
391. 1:18:05generation as passive entertainment now at any point in here let's say that kind of character study that
392. 1:18:19kind of monster study is pretty interesting I can actually take this image and I can do what's called create a

395. 1:18:46goals when we started the salon is I want people I want being part of the salon to be a thing like people would say I'm a

397. 1:19:02encourage you to do that but be I'm really humbled by it because that's that's the whole [ __ ] idea is is to is to be part of a

404. 1:20:07do good legislation and not jerky legislation um talk to Daisy um anyway back to Deco here if if your understanding of AI is
405. 1:20:23that you have to learn prompt engineering ing which I I am not a fan of the term prompt engineering because I
406. 1:20:29think it it it puts a an expectation on non-engineers that they can't do this but I'm here to show you with this
407. 1:20:38particular thing we just sat back and watch some images I clicked on an image I thought was kind of interesting and
408. 1:20:44now I can create a station out of that think of it like a radio station what it's going to do now is it's going to generate
409. 1:20:55about an image a second maybe it's even a little more than that about an image a second passively with no
410. 1:21:07prompting I can share this station with you with anyone and you'll all see the same images that I'm seeing and any one
411. 1:21:14of these images I can click on and I can upscale that or I can turn that into a movie or I can just sit back
412. 1:21:25and this is this is a generative AI experience that is either completely passive right it's just exploring the latent space of of image
413. 1:21:40generation as passive entertainment or what site is this this is called Deco here deoh here. a
414. 1:21:56and you can also go in like I can go into Deco here and I can create an image from nothing from a prompt or I
415. 1:22:03can just roll and have it generate a random prompt and then it's it'll just very very quickly generate these I can
416. 1:22:11turn I don't I don't think I'm subscribed right now so I can't turn this into a station but if um if I
417. 1:22:17wanted to I could turn any image that I create into a station as well and here I'll just roll the dice there's a
418. 1:22:24squirrel in front of the Eiffel Tower there's a astronaut playing tennis this could looks like it could be
419. 1:22:32cool so any one of these I can upscale I can turn into videos or I can come out here and just
420. 1:22:46explore like here's a this is a a station that I made you can save these stations as well and this is a station

424. 1:23:48want you to use AI to make what we do more efficient and what you do is financial analysis you're going to go look at
425. 1:23:58tools that make financial analysis more efficient and you're going to miss out on discovering what AI actually makes
426. 1:24:11possible and and what it makes possible in disciplines where you never thought you'd have any interest or any
427. 1:24:19aptitude with something like this the only aptitude you need is to know that it's there and to have some discernment to have
428. 1:24:27some taste to go that is [ __ ] cool and maybe that image ends up on one of the pages of your PowerPoint program
429. 1:24:38just to make it a little less boring and make you stand out a little bit more even though what you're showing people
430. 1:24:45is how much more efficient you made the accounting right I contacted de here about where they come from 100% their AI not from people's
431. 1:24:59prompts so yeah so they've trained their own model here who knows what it's been trained on but I mean and then you could also look at
432. 1:25:14this especially if you're in the in the in the mindset of well computers should just make us more efficient well computers also entertain
433. 1:25:25us computers allow Taylor Swift to make her music and do her shows computers allow filmmakers to make
434. 1:25:36movies and so you know there's always a Continuum but again these are generative tools all these images that we're
435. 1:25:44looking at right here they've never existed before in the history of the world these are original images generated out of the latent space
436. 1:25:52generated out of the training data I mean

456. 1:29:50aptitude I want you to have at least a 5 minute com conversation not a search with typing I want you to put chat GPT
457. 1:30:00in conversation mode and I want you to have I you can brainstorm with it or if there's a topic that you are
458. 1:30:08particularly interested in I want you to have a conversation with chat GPT about a topic you know nothing
459. 1:30:18about like maybe it's something that is kind of the the most distant thing that you have no interest in I want you to
460. 1:30:26have a conversation about that and I want you to spend at least five minutes at least five minutes having a
461. 1:30:33conversation where you have chat GPT educate you or create a game or let you ask it questions about that topic just for the sake of
462. 1:30:51curiosity [ __ ] it learn something new so if you're non-technical ask it about some technical [ __ ] if you're super technical ask it about
463. 1:31:06philosophy or creativity how to creative people's mind works what the [ __ ] is with these add people why don't they shut the [ __ ]

560. 1:51:58if there's a next version of chat GPT that's got reasoning in it it might be effectively impossible to tell if you're
561. 1:52:07interacting with a bot whether or not that technology exists we now live in a world where that's an active
562. 1:52:14conversation how do we know if the person we're talking to is a bot or not so that's kind of freaky so so one
563. 1:52:23of the benefits or one of the one of the things that came out of this whole Mr strawberry thing is that conversation kind of opened
