40:29 sat down it was incredibly

40:36 awkward but I so couple of things this
40:43 the API for cat GPT
40:46 4.5 is 25 times more expensive than GPT
40:50 4.5 on output tokens and 10 times more
40:54 expensive on input tokens or vice versa
40:57 whatever it is ridiculously expensive
41:00 like $75 per million tokens for input
41:05 and 150 per million for output or
41:07 something like that it's it's ridiculous
41:11 um Nate Nate B Jones actually put out a
41:14 video where he said he thinks like
41:17 Altman doesn't want any developers
41:19 developing on it this is really here the
41:22 purpose of this is for chat GPT users
41:28 to start to get used to this kind of
41:31 personality that makes sense to
41:34 me I said I said this a couple of nights
41:36 ago and I've been feeling this for a
41:38 while I've been talking about this for
41:39 two or three weeks in different
41:41 channels
41:45 um I think that these large language
41:48 models at this
41:50 point are mostly good
41:53 enough and people are not going to bond
41:57 with
41:59 um and llm for their
42:03 features because they're they're all
42:05 copying each other's features and
42:07 they're all good enough so what's going
42:09 to happen is the the llms with the best
42:13 personalities the ones that that feel
42:16 most like oh that was nice that give you
42:18 the warm and fuzzies people are going to
42:20 bond with that I think that's what
42:22 they're up to I I would I would not
42:24 ignore the fact that this thing doesn't
42:26 beat bench marks and things like that I
42:29 think the significance of this is in the
42:31 personality um so I figure we'll just
42:33 play around with with talking to it the
42:36 one thing that's a real drag I've got
42:38 the advanced voice mode button here but
42:40 if I go into advanced voice mode and
42:42 talk to my girlfriend Quinn it's using
42:45 40 it's not using 4.5 so that's [ __ ]

44:22 serve him well well in corporate but but

44:30 feels like it's becoming more popular

44:36 know some writers that like Claude but
44:38 again I think it's all very subjective
44:40 at this point I really do B don't them I
44:43 need to do some research on tokens I'm
44:45 new to AI learning lab and
44:47 hearing learning through things like
44:49 this today was the first time I heard
44:51 this term ah let well so let me tell you
44:54 about tokens okay

45:05 fragments it it it doesn't really matter
45:07 but it it sort of does so what happens
45:10 is
45:12 this when they train a large language
45:15 model they they sort of pointed at as
45:17 much of the data of the public internet
45:20 as they can so think every PDF every
45:22 blog post every Wikipedia article every
45:24 website all the stuff right
45:28 one of the misconceptions about how
45:29 large language models work is that they
45:35 um that They're copying and pasting
45:38 right that they're they're taking the
45:40 the entire contents of a PDF document
45:42 and you ask a question it goes and
45:44 searches for a bunch of documents and
45:46 glues them together and gives it to you
45:48 like a Frankenstein plagiarism machine
45:51 and that's one of the one of the the
45:54 tropes about large language models is
45:57 that the world's greatest plagiarism
45:58 engines right they're not it's not how
46:01 they work what what happens is this you
46:03 take all that data all those documents
46:05 and when they get what's called
46:07 embedded they get converted into tokens
46:10 and and tokens are fragments of words
46:13 tokens also include things like spaces
46:15 and commas and periods punctuation but
46:18 just think of it simply as fragments of
46:20 words so if you have um Buster you might
46:25 break that into bust and tur um if you
46:28 have strawberry it the tokens might be
46:30 straw b r and then r
46:34 y one of the things that that people um
46:39 made fun of large language models for is
46:41 if you ask it how many RS in in the word
46:43 strawberry it would say two because it's
46:46 just measuring it's just looking at its
46:48 latest tokens and so it couldn't count
46:50 so so anyway so tokens are fragments of
46:53 words those tokens then get a assigned a
46:58 number this is [ __ ] insane how this
47:01 works they get assigned a number and
47:04 that number puts them somewhere into
47:08 thousand dimensional mathematical space
47:11 in semantic
47:14 clusters and and here's what I mean by
47:16 that so let's say in this PDF document
47:19 the word dog appears and it gets
47:23 embedded and it gets turned into one of
47:24 these tokens and it gets stuck into a
47:26 semantic cluster
47:28 with with other tokens that are like
47:30 pets and you know the fuzzy things that
47:33 you come home to at night right dogs
47:35 like dogs but there's maybe another
47:38 paper over here a blog post where the
47:40 word dog is related to a guy that did
47:42 his girlfriend bad and so that word dog
47:45 will actually go into a different
47:46 semantic cluster so when you type your
47:49 prompt what this system is doing is it's
47:52 pulling in these tokens these fragments
47:55 of words from all these different places
47:57 in in literal thousand dimensional
48:00 mathematical space and kind of
48:02 assembling them you know for you to read
48:05 um so that's what a token is now why
48:09 it's relevant for you and for all of us
48:12 is there's a thing called a context
48:14 window and the context window is
48:17 basically you can think of it like chat
48:18 gpt's short-term
48:20 memory and let's see um let me get a see
48:25 if I can figure out a metaphor here
48:28 uh yeah this is this is good all right
48:31 so so this is your comp wait here let me
48:35 go let me go full screen here
48:39 people all right so this this little box
48:43 of tools is your computer screen
48:47 um when you type in your
48:51 prompt you and and chat GPT spits out
48:54 some words right it's it spits out some
48:56 words
48:57 like they come up on your screen and
49:00 they and they go up and they go above
49:02 your screen at some point right the the
49:05 context window is how many words it can
49:09 keep in its memory so just like in in
49:12 your computer like you'll have you'll
49:15 have words on screen and then they they
49:17 scroll off screen right you can only see
49:19 the words down here you can't see the
49:22 words up here that's kind of what
49:24 happens in in chat GPT
49:27 um if it's got a small context window so
49:30 what'll happen is you'll be having a
49:32 conversation with chat
49:34 GPT and and you told it a bunch of stuff
49:37 about your business and then all of a
49:38 sudden it feels like it doesn't know
49:40 anything about your business that's
49:42 because the part where you talked about
49:43 your business went out of the context
49:45 window context windows are getting
49:48 bigger and bigger and bigger I think GPT
49:50 4.5 has
49:52 128,000 token context window um which is
49:56 about um 34 of the amount of tokens is
50:01 how many words on average are in there
50:03 so if it's
50:04 120 128,000 tokens it's probably
50:07 somewhere in the neighborhood of 90
50:09 95,000 words that it can remember so
50:13 that's pretty long um current chat GPT I
50:16 think is 32,000 but it might be 8,000
50:19 the initial chat GPT was 8,000 tokens
50:22 which was just basically 6,000 words so
50:25 it would lose its mind a lot you would
50:26 have to keep reminding it what to do so
50:28 anyway that's tokens context window all
50:31 that sort of stuff so I hope that

1:00:55 want to Vel opers really developing on

1:02:39 experience what it's like to work with a

1:02:50 and this may not even be the strategy

1:04:26 I absorb and analyze countless human

1:14:59 certain things than others and and like

1:15:04 better at coding there's going to be a
1:15:06 little bit of you know sort of King of
1:15:08 the Hill for a while maybe another year
1:15:11 two years um and then they're going to
1:15:14 kind of they're going to kind of
1:15:15 stabilize it good enough and it's it's
1:15:17 my opinion that people are going to
1:15:19 choose large language models not based
1:15:21 on what they can do but based on
1:15:24 basically how they feel what their
1:15:26 personality is like does this large
1:15:28 langu language model resonate with who I
1:15:31 am and how I think some people are going
1:15:33 to love grock 3's unhinged and its kind
1:15:36 of wild west nature some other people
1:15:39 are going to like you know claud's you
1:15:41 know more sort of soft edged narrative I
1:15:45 don't know what chat GPT 4.5 is yet but
1:15:48 basically what they said in the in the
1:15:51 uh in the announcement today is it's um
1:15:57 it's like it hallucinates a lot less and
1:16:00 they talked about emotional intelligence
1:16:03 and they talked about personality they
1:16:05 mentioned personality four times so I
1:16:08 think it will be the one that does what
1:16:11 you want on the devices you want for
1:16:13 cheap
1:16:16 I I think people are going to imprint
1:16:20 with these models just like they imprint
1:16:22 with people I think you're going to get
1:16:24 used to a person personality now listen
1:16:27 if your large language model can't do
1:16:29 what you need it to do you will
1:16:30 absolutely go to something else and you
1:16:32 might go to something that's cheaper or
1:16:34 you don't want it connected to the
1:16:35 internet so there will be some features
1:16:37 where people will Veer off the path but
1:16:39 if I think about a about
1:16:44 choosing a personal assistant let's
1:16:47 let's just call large language models
1:16:49 are going to evolve into personal
1:16:51 assistants I'm going to choose a
1:16:53 personal assistant that gets my jokes
1:16:56 that talks the way I talk that that
1:16:59 feels familiar to me and so even if
1:17:02 something else maybe slightly better
1:17:04 technically I'll probably stick with
1:17:06 that like the switching cost of changing
1:17:09 personalities basically I think is going
1:17:11 to be higher than just the feature sets
1:17:13 so that's where my head is I might be
1:17:14 wrong but I think that's what I think
1:17:17 that's what the focus of 4.5 is so
