23. 5:49uh uh sort of toodling I did I took what we did last night so last night if you were here um I played around with an idea I had to
24. 6:06I just I've I've been wanting to experiment with um Mid Journey's new character reference right the ability to
25. 6:13do consistent characters across images and because I'm lazy I thought well why don't I come up with some narrative
26. 6:26Concepts and then just have chat GPT write all the prompts and then just copy and paste them and use the character
27. 6:32reference to keep the characters consistent hello consistent Kyle hello ISU good to see you um and so I did three of them today
28. 6:45um well I did one did I do the one last night yeah yeah I did the New York one last night I posted that on
29. 6:55LinkedIn and it was interesting cuz I think some people thought it was real which was good that was what I was
30. 7:00hoping would happen and then and then other people got it and then I did a second one and then I did a third one
31. 7:07you were having a blast in that at that conference weren't you oh at the at the conference last Wednesday the the workshop I gave yeah I
32. 7:17I mean I I like presenting and and I like uh you know I like the the subject I like the topic so um it was a really interesting room full
33. 7:28of people there were maybe well it was probably 40 or 50 somewhere between 40 and 50 people and there were probably five in
34. 7:40there that were nodding when I was talking about stuff and there were a handful that were like sort of
35. 7:49getting it and the rest so so maybe 10 out of the 40 let's call it 40 showed up 10 out of the 40 had some semblance of a clue what AI was
36. 8:00the rest not a [ __ ] clue like not a clue like the stuff that I was sharing was revelatory to them like they didn't
37. 8:10know it was possible they didn't know what this [ __ ] was um so it was pretty wild it was a fun night noodling or nodding off so what
38. 8:21are you going to do for April fools oh that's a Ah that's a really good idea well I kind of started today here let me
39. 8:26show you what I what I put they've got an article format that's almost identical it looks like they're using
40. 8:32the same technology almost to um to LinkedIn articles cuz I wanted to do more than um more than a handful of
41. 8:44images oh I also just posted this to um I posted this to the showand tell channel right let me get the image brightness so you can see it
42. 9:02so the um the thing that I wrote in the summer some someone said last night he looks like a young Orson Wells so I
43. 9:11named this guy K KS Wells K period S period wells in the summer of 1973 KS Wells started out in Chicago on Route 60
44. 9:21on a on a route 66 road trip oh no this is new okay so I took the same dude last night I did him in New York City and
45. 9:32today this was the first thing I did today today I said give me a set of prompts from from 1973 from a a Route 66 road trip and and
46. 9:45chat PT started Route 66 in Chicago I didn't know that's where Route 66 started I I actually had to Google that
47. 9:53so this shot is from Chicago in 1973 he goes live even on on Easter wow I don't listen there's no sleeping in
48. 10:03AI we're going we're going if you're watching I'm [Laughter] talking um so so this is uh this is ksw so it says in the summer of 1973 KS
49. 10:16Wells started out in Chicago on a route 66 road trip and made it to the Pacific Ocean 6 weeks later no one knew he was
50. 10:23gone I wish I had known him better so so that's the little story and then this is his his his road trip there's where he
51. 10:37starts he found a good Roadside Attraction that kind of looked like him that's just like a a a weird Quirk
52. 10:46of uh of mid journey is that whenever something's behind him it's got his picture on it there's something about
53. 10:53character reference that it it it puts the character you know multiple times in the in the image there he is he met he
54. 11:01met a girl on the road apparently I don't know who took the picture but apparently he got dumped so drowning his
55. 11:12Sorrows there he is at the uh see there he is at the movie theaters watching a movie of himself some more roadside
56. 11:23attractions that one's kind of cool it's a nice shot
57. 11:50um I guess here it was in New Mexico you know Southwest hang hanging out hanging out with the Indians on the on on the
58. 12:00reservations and there's like the Route 66 TPS from you know these were like these were made in like 1958 or something like
59. 12:11that you know in 1973 they're kind of tired and worn [Laughter] down and then he makes it to San Diego the end of Route 66 so that was the
60. 12:23first one I did then I did this one which
61. 12:38is um The Narrative here from 1942 to 1943 KS Oppenheimer served as an intern at Los Alamos under
62. 12:53the shadow of his famous Uncle his work was significant but largely unrecognized Christopher no and chose not to tell his
63. 13:05story so so this is the Forgotten Oppenheimer KS Oppenheimer and then and it was kind of cool cuz I like I asked it to um to
64. 13:19create these photographs as 4x5 um transparency uh four 4x5 transparencies in documentary style and so these have a a real
65. 13:35documentary kind of feel to them and there was there was a bunch of them that had multiple scientists in
66. 13:47them like this except all the scientists were the same guy there he is playing with the the computers of the
67. 14:02day and his little his little field trip and then there he was relaxing one night at the uh Los Alamos Music
68. 14:12Hall forgotten himer that's good actually that's really good here let me edit this that's really good let's see um edit

81. 17:13only thing I I learned is just there's so many different ways to use these tools like I didn't upscale any of those images I
82. 17:23didn't edit any of them like I just generated I had chachy PT make me 10 prompts and then I dump the prompts into mid
83. 17:36Journey maybe added a little just detail like the specific kind of photograph I wanted if it didn't add that
84. 17:44correctly it generated four Images per prompt so I did 40 images per dude and and then I just picked the ones that
85. 17:59didn't suck and there were a lot that sucked here I'll show you actually yeah you know what for this channel I'll show you I'll go through
86. 18:17everything all right so here's here's all the road trip there is trying to prompt these are the ones I did last night right so these
87. 18:32are the New York City in the in the late 80s photos and then so this was this was the road
88. 18:49trip so that one I kept that one I kept was okay that one I probably should have kept that one's actually pretty good that's the one I
89. 19:04kept see how everything like he shows up twice in the image once is the it's just a good sad 1970s
90. 19:19photo my question that I have used Dolly and chat BT but I have never but I never have nice pictures like mid Journey yeah
91. 19:30you got to get I mean with dolly dolly is definitely less photo realistic than mid Journey you can if if you use
92. 19:37photographic terms like kod chrome ecta chrome you know like film stocks or if you say things like cinematic or say
93. 19:46things like um professional photography as if you know filmed by a specific photographer it can get pretty good how
94. 19:55do you keep the same image consistent throughout so I'll show you I'll show you in both Discord and uh and in the
95. 20:02web thing here I I'll show you it's it's pretty it's it's not pretty slick the results are pretty slick how you do it
96. 20:10is pretty obscure and weird there there he is sitting with himself so I didn't keep that one but the girlfriend was fine here's the bunch
97. 20:20of movie ones where it's all just it's either him like like having merged with the car like sitting like his torso is
98. 20:29sitting on top of the trunk and I guess the um rest of him is in the [Laughter] trunk so a lot of those weren't
99. 20:42usable that's okay but there's weird like that one he's got like a beer can stuck to his sleeve like velcro to his
100. 20:49sleeve here there's a a paint can just sort of floating right by his package here here's here's more where his head's on
101. 21:01backwards you know but but again I didn't you know for me I didn't care cuz mid Journey did most of the work I'm
102. 21:09literally just copying pasting sort of vomiting these things out but the the the art of these is in the narrative
103. 21:17right what's the story here and then it's in it's in the editing right which ones do you keep these are all really weird where
104. 21:28his body's just the completely wrong proportion like there the car is all [ __ ] up his body's all [ __ ] up here
105. 21:34here he's sort of melting into the Hood in a weird kind of way listening to an audible book about Ai and medicine I it can't come fast
106. 21:45enough I'm like bring on the AI in medicine I'm I'm uh I'm done with the medical community there's one
107. 21:59it's the front of a car with two wheel two wheel wells and it's about you know a foot and a half high with with teeps in the background
108. 22:10with with abandoned cars next to them that was weird here he here he made it to San FR San Diego so that's that one
109. 22:18then here's the Oppenheimer ones those were all pretty good here he's just weirdly shaped there he's weirdly shaped that was one I
110. 22:33kept those were okay there he is working with himself those are kind of odd that I almost kept but he's got a little man
111. 22:46boob sticking out it just looked it just looked distracting enough like nah I don't care here's a whole room full of him
112. 22:54having a meeting at Los Alamos look all him they this this they got to work on all him all
113. 23:09[Laughter] him oh man there he is singing to himself in a dream state I don't know what the [ __ ] that
114. 23:24is there he is as as uh Los most Jesus crazy right oh yeah this was the The Prompt here was something like
115. 23:36shaking hands with other scientists but they all look like him and then this was the magic the Gathering dude it was weird it was magic the
116. 23:48Gathering but it did a lot of cards as like poker cards and poker chips like there's poker chips and he's got a pair of pocket
117. 23:56aces there he is there he is shirts are skins there he again is again playing poker poker that's a really good shot I love that shot
118. 24:13actually right but it like I it's so amazing that you can you know I can just give it a concept of a story and Chachi PT is
119. 24:24smart enough to understand narrative and tell the story and it's smart enough to put together prompts in a decent like
120. 24:31the prompts were not great the prompts are okay it didn't quite understand prompt structure and I didn't take any
121. 24:38time to make the prompts good right I just I just was being lazy and just kind of doing this while I was watching sports and
122. 24:48[ __ ] yeah some of these are just really weird rooms that one's kind of cool that one's bizarre there I don't know where his
123. 24:59legs are going they're just sort of Disappearing down in the floor I mean that looks like a doesn't that look like a Time
124. 25:09magazine photo from like 1973 right all the [ __ ] in the foreground you know he's the big collector of magazines or whatever the hell it
125. 25:24was that's it that's those all right so here's how we do those those could be bloopers yeah actually you know it's not a bad idea actually
126. 25:32you know what maybe what I'll do that's a really good idea Gavin I'll um I think I'll post these to to LinkedIn as here
127. 25:41I'll do a here's what I did and here are the bloopers kind of article CU I I'll talk about what I did I don't mind sharing what I did here
128. 25:48because I think it's a really fun process like I love this idea I I I also noticed um Kelly Bosch her her um her
129. 25:58storytelling is Shifting she did that Cadillac commercial a couple of days ago and I saw one of her videos today was
130. 26:06like this little kid by a lake cabin and it was kind and it was it was uh horizontal you know full one of the Tik
131. 26:15Tok full screen things where you can turn the phone and it goes full screen and it and it was very narrative and and
132. 26:23kind of the story of this kid and uh it was it was super cool so I this idea of of telling narrative quickly but well is is really
133. 26:33exciting to me so is the image images story written in the first wait is the images story written first and then used as the prompt um not
134. 26:49really your session expired what the [ __ ] is that did they reset something here or did it actually just expire
135. 27:00see if we get some new features maybe we get some Sunday night blessings settings anything new nope looks like the same [ __ ] all right
136. 27:17um so what I did well we'll go to the very first one I did last night so I uploaded I uploaded the source
137. 27:32picture so that's the that's the picture from from my Kyle Shannon dreams project that I'm using as the source to maintain the character
138. 27:41consistency and then I said to chat GPT describe that man which in the end I don't think that really mattered and then I said great now I
139. 27:50want you to write 10 short image prompts that describe a photograph from a specific location in New York City
140. 27:58between these dates I also want you to describe a specific photographic style as part of the prompt EG Polaroid color Street high contrast
141. 28:09black and white etc etc and then it wrote the prompts and I think it got them wrong a little bit what did they it said a stark black
142. 28:18and white image showing the contrast and shadows it didn't it didn't mention the man in the initial prompts then I said
143. 28:25include the man and it it describes him as the man not just a man high contrast black and white photograph of the man crossing a vibrant
144. 28:38crowded Time Square in the late 1980s and that image the four images that came from that were pretty [ __ ]
145. 28:57good it was that one so the
146. 29:12prompt was high contrast black and white man crossing a vibrant crowded Time Square and then that was one that looks
147. 29:23more like Wall Street than Time Square but it's still that one's really good that's sort of the hero image of his
148. 29:28whole thing can I join your community and AI Salon Association absolutely um it's go to the salon. A and click on the
149. 29:36first link please do me a favor invisibility is read what the salon's about and read what our values are about
150. 29:44and make sure that you um you know resonate with those values you agree with those values and also introduce
151. 29:52yourself use your real name um and introduce yourself to the community um so yeah so here are the those were the the
152. 30:04images it created yeah those are the oh wait no hang on these are the time square ones these are the time square ones so
153. 30:16that is Time Square the other one was Wall Street right it they came up like it came up with the cool hat did it have the Hat in
154. 30:25there his figure is illuminated by by neon signs as he glances at a theater Marquee no it didn't like it it put the
155. 30:32Hat in so like not a whole lot of not a whole lot of uh real good prompting right just this is very very basic prompting just
156. 30:44letting mid Journey do its thing and again like what what this what this says to me is that you know there's
157. 30:51kind of an infinite number of ways like however you get there with these tools like if you want to be really detailed
158. 30:58about your prompting and do structured prompting and and really craft the [ __ ] out of the prompts you can absolutely do
159. 31:04that the salon. a first links read the values introduce yourself thank you Silver Fox that's great yeah the the AI
160. 31:10Salon if you don't know is is a community I started the week after chat GPT came out and it's a really amazing
161. 31:17group of people and a really amazing resource with lots of subc communities and and places you can share things and
162. 31:25um you know news areas and and Gil s and all sorts of things like that um so I don't know if that answered your your question Silver Fox
163. 31:35um but basically I just got it once I once I got it to sort of describe the The Prompt indecently accurate mid-journey language
164. 31:47I just stopped I like I didn't like I've done I did very little refining of the prompts I just went over and copied and
165. 31:54pasted them over in in mid Journey and got those things so okay so how do we do this we'll start out in
166. 32:08Discord and if you don't know Discord this is Discord so Discord is is a community kind of software where you
167. 32:16have different servers down the side I'm in the AI Salon Discord um you can also do this inside the mid Journey Discord
168. 32:23or you know there can be there might be other communities why I like doing it in the AI salon on Discord is there's very
169. 32:29little traffic here so you kind of have a little private area where you can um do these things but you're also doing it
170. 32:36with people that you know from the salon so that's kind of nice um and the way you make a mid-journey images you do slash oh well
171. 32:46so wait let me let me first I'm going to upload a picture I'm going to upload the reference photo um
172. 33:11there he is so I'm going to upload that and this will make sense in a second why I'm why I'm doing this okay so I've got an image uploaded
173. 33:23to Discord now I'm going to do a uh how you how you make images in mid Journeys you type in slash imagine and then you put in your prompt
174. 33:35so let's hop over to chat J and we'll go grab one of the prompts let's see [Music]

176. 34:12Gathering all right so I'm just going to copy that prompt and then oops oh and I got to go to Discord so I'm going to pop the
177. 34:21prompt in there says a closeup I'm going to say a closeup snapshot with a disposable camera right because those have a very distinct thing
178. 34:37captures instead of the man's hands I'm going to say a man's hands as he meticulously arranges his magic the Gathering I'm going to put
179. 34:48those in quote marks cards his nails bitten but his focus is unwavering in the in the Blurred background the icon spines of early
180. 34:592000s DVDs and CDs are just indistinguishable um in his basement apartment all right so there's a little
181. 35:09bit of Storytelling in the prompt but not a lot and then the way that you reference the the way that you make it
182. 35:17that guy that guy um and not just any guy in a basement is this new thing called well wait I'm going to go D- AR
183. 35:26which stands for aspect ratio and I'm going to do an aspect ratio of of 4:3 or uh no I'll do 3:2 which is 35 mm is that right I think
184. 35:41that's right I think it's 3 to2 um and then I'm going to go dash dash CF c e f which stands for character
185. 35:55reference single space you can't do multiple spaces and then I and then I I need to paste the URL of that image that
186. 36:04I uploaded so how you get that URL is you right click on the image and you say copy link and then you just paste that after the
187. 36:14CF and then I can additionally put D- CW for character weight and then a space and this is a number between 0o and
188. 36:24100 a waiting of zero will just keep his face but change out everything else his hair his clothes everything a waiting of
189. 36:33100 will try to maintain everything so in this case I want it to change things up so I'm doing a character waiting of
190. 36:4130 so it's closer to swapping out his clothes but there's something kind of cool and geeky about the that
191. 36:48character's clothes and that's it so slash imagine then you put in your prompt then I put in aspect ratio of 3
192. 36:56to2 so it'll make it a horizontal image um and then CF the URL and then character waiting and then that's it and
193. 37:05then it will go off and make these four images and then I'll show you how to do this in the website as well not everyone
194. 37:10has access to the website right now um I finally got access to it you have to have made a thousand images in uh in mid
195. 37:18journey and I think it must mean a thousand uh prompts or something like that but I don't know it I was I thought
196. 37:27I was was way past a th and then it turns out I wasn't so now mid Journey's off doing its thing and we should see our little
197. 37:38dude oh and also I came up I came up with his name well that's rendering let me go over here to um to chat GPT toward the end of
198. 37:50this I wanted to come up with a name for him that was clever but I couldn't think of anything and I'm being lazy
199. 37:57so I said what would be a subtly funny um last name for this guy give me 10 choices and the first one it came up
200. 38:06with there the first few were actually really good Mana Forge a nod to Magic The Gatherings Mana system and his
201. 38:14seemingly endless ability to create or Forge gaming strategies so his name is KS Mana Forge that's the one I went with
202. 38:22but they had Cardwell this these are very sort of like you know um uh you know theatrical kind of uh Deckard a pun on Deck as in deck of
203. 38:34cards but a nod to the Sci-Fi character Rick Deckard for an extra layer of geekiness Shuffle be KS Shuffle be
204. 38:42Gamester play well rule right you know so anyway that was kind of cool um okay so here's the pics um and you know there
205. 38:52he is it this the this prompt was close up on his hands so so he's a little bit in the distance but let's let's go ahead
206. 39:00and do we'll do variations of number one if you've never done mid Journey before in Discord when you produce images you get
207. 39:08four Images 1 two 3 four and then you have these U's and these V's if you don't like any of them you can just hit
208. 39:14roll basically that's the roll button U stands for upscale so you can if you like any of these you can just upscale
209. 39:22them or v stands for variations if you like them but they're not quite there you can hit a v it'll give you four more
210. 39:28of just that like variations of that one so I'm going to do the first one here actually I like one and four so let's do variations of
211. 39:36one submit and you can even change up the prompt if you want to there and then I'm going to do variations of
212. 39:56four [Music]
213. 40:13so that's making some variations for us it's a great tip to tell it how you want the photograph to look the
214. 40:20technique yep it's really good and that that could also help you in Dolly uh uhuh uh uh uh oh you want to join it in LinkedIn
215. 40:31yeah you can join it in LinkedIn as well just just send a uh send a request to join that group the AI Salon group
216. 40:41um are those done oh they're not done that's why they don't look finished because they're not
217. 40:56finished all right these are done I like this one yeah I think that one's good his hands actually look pretty good there so
218. 41:07I'm going to I'm going to upscale three here and then here I think that one again three up scale
219. 41:22three all right and so there you go so there's there's our picture you know just came up with a concept let
220. 41:31chat GPT do the heavy lifting you know tweak it until you get some things right understand how to do a character
221. 41:38reference and now we've got this dude like we could tell this story right we could take this stuff over to
222. 41:47Runway um to do lip syncing with this stuff what do you think of Devon AI I think it's really interesting it's not out yet
223. 41:57um from what I understand it's going to be quite expensive because it's doing you know lots and lots of calls to open
224. 42:05AI to do all the stuff it does um and I assume they're using chat gp4 so it doesn't suck um which is the most expensive
225. 42:14model so um anyway okay so that's how you do it in Discord now doing it in the web version of mid journey is slightly easier oh God he's
226. 42:26gorgeous okay create so this is the interface for the mid Journey web application if you log into
227. 42:43mid journey.com on the web if if you have a if you have a Discord account and um if you have a Discord
228. 42:53account and you go to Mid journey.com on the web and log in using your Discord account you see all the images that
229. 43:03you've made so you have an account on the web already if you're making images on Discord a lot of people don't know
230. 43:08that um so this is just the the the archive of like all the images I've ever made and you can just scroll down
231. 43:17through them and it's it's just so it's so funny like having all these images and kind of remembering you know remembering or not
232. 43:25what you were doing at the time you created them so so that's that now if you've got access to the alpha the mid Journey
233. 43:35Alpha there's a create button here which if if you don't have access to it that'll be gray out but it's going to be
234. 43:41coming at some point in the next you know month or two or three or four who knows uh for everyone but it but here's
235. 43:47how it works so you go to create and then at the top of the screen you've got your prompt so I'm going to type in the same prompt let me
236. 43:57actually go grab it from Discord cuz it was a bit different I changed it um here we go copy so you don't have to type slash
237. 44:12imagine it just says imagine right there so you say paste and then I don't need to do the um aspect ratio you you can use all
238. 44:23of your Discord commands but you don't have to so there's this little uh toggle right here for aspect ratio and things
239. 44:30like that so you can just you know drag this around so I'll do this as kind of a snapshot looking aspect ratio and then
240. 44:39you can turn on turn up stylization or weirdness I'll turn weirdness down a little bit um so that's that stuff and
241. 44:48then um and then I hit this plus button next to the promt images that I've uploaded to do this and so this is the dude that I want
242. 44:59to do and then you can put this image in one of three modes there's sort of image as prompt mode there's style mode where
243. 45:10it'll just take the style of this image and then there's character reference mode so I'm going to put it in character
244. 45:16reference mode and then once I'm in character reference mode I can still do-- character weight space 30 you know 0 to 100 and
245. 45:26and that's it I can get rid of that and I just hit return and now it's generating the images here so a similar sort of process
246. 45:40um I wouldn't necessarily call it an easier interface it's a different interface um but I like it so much better than um
