9. 1:36good comeback victory for Argentina. I you know I was I was like when it was 1 nil in the 80th minute uh with England up I was like well
10. 1:48England hasn't been there in a while. That's kind of nice. Argentina doesn't look like they're doing it. And then

24. 4:01maybe two years ago, I got a little box in the mail
25. 4:17with a little device in it. And everybody made fun of me. They were like, "Oh, Kyle, you bought that stupid
26. 4:26little thing with a little scroll wheel and a little camera and a little screen and a little button button."
27. 4:37And you know what they predicted? They predicted that I would only use this for a week and I would put it on the shelf. They were wrong.
28. 4:50I used it for two weeks and then I put it on the shelf [laughter] [laughter] naysayers.
29. 5:05[laughter] Cam Katkin 5.6 soul is letting me do so much of my biology work. Fable is still crippled in this area. Good. Good. I'm
30. 5:16glad it's letting you do that, Cam. That's awesome. Um, so I ordered a new piece of kit, as they say in England. Boy, the Brits got to be
31. 5:26bummed. They had They were up. They were like, "Messi can't possibly hurt us now."

33. 6:24All right. So that is a collaboration between open AI and um work louder.
34. 6:38what I what I am not 100% sure on let's go find out um is the work louder

36. 7:15I sharing correctly? Yes. Yes, I am. Fantastic. No. The work louder device called Codex Micro is separate from the
37. 7:25Johnny Ives project. I thought so because this doesn't look like a Johnny Ives product. This looks more like a uh
38. 7:32the ones that made that uh what is that group? uh not uh Teenage Engineering made the Rabbit R1. Um this is more like
39. 7:42a sort of hacker hardware aesthetic than something Johnny Ies would create. So I'm glad about that. The Johnny Ies device, the much bigger,
40. 7:51still secret consumer hardware project is developed is not expected to be a screenless AI companion. Okay, so let's
41. 7:58go back to this X thing and look at this thing. Um Let's see. Codeex Micro.
42. 8:14There's a pretty decent video of it. Yeah. Is this it? Yeah, this is it. I'll share this tab instead. Okay. So, let's

44. 8:34louder specifically for Codeex. I honestly can't imagine building without it anymore. To show you how it works,
45. 8:40I'm going to use GPT 5.6 Soul in Codeex to build a little word game and steer the entire process from the micro. Let's
46. 8:47start with voice dictation. I can hold this key and start talking to codeex. Build a browser game called one letter
47. 8:54off. Players change one letter at a time to turn the word cold to warm and a 30-second timer, streaks, and satisfying
48. 9:02tile animations. The whole prompt appears without me touching my laptop keyboard. I can configure the analog
49. 9:09stick at the top to map to the most common skills that I use, or by default, swipe it up to use plan mode. With the
50. 9:16dial, I can control the reasoning effort to quickly switch between a quick task and deeper reasoning without breaking my
51. 9:23flow. Additionally to the game, I'm having Codex work on a couple of other things in my pin tasks. Each of the task
52. 9:29maps to a key on the micro, and I can click them to quickly switch between tasks. I can quickly see what's running
53. 9:36and what needs my attention at a glance. And if the app is in the background, I can double tap to see what needs my
54. 9:44attention. When Codex asks for permission to run something, I can switch over and press accept. And I can also quickly switch back and
55. 9:54hold voice again to queue up another task by asking make the win state punchier and add a streak counter.
56. 10:04It makes jumping between tasks so much easier than ever before. And by the way, the analog stick is a great fidget toy
57. 10:09while you're waiting for Codex to complete a task. And there it is. The game is live all from the micro. All of
58. 10:16the controls on the Codex Micro are customizable, so I can map them to the Codex actions that I use the most.
59. 10:22Whether it's common skills, [music] creating a pull request, or even triggering my pet. That's the Codeex

67. 11:37were a couple of things about it that I found intriguing. The fact that it's got like little LED lightups
68. 11:45and you can map your different projects to the different buttons. So, if it's thinking, it's red. If it's got a
69. 11:51question, it's yellow. If it's idle, it's white. You can just jump between them. I like that. The one thing that
70. 12:02I've been thinking a lot about is let me let me show you something. Okay, share this tab. Okay, here I am in chat

78. 14:05paired with the rabbit equals bookends. Um the little dial on that on that keyboard that lets you dial up and down thinking um
79. 14:19levels. I think is actually kind of useful because if I want to change that if I'm in this interface,

81. 14:39I want to change the uh the the effort, I have to come over here and go, oh, instant. I go to instant and then go, you know, um what is the

83. 15:03menu and then you have to think about it. That's not that big a deal. But like having a thing where I can just double
84. 15:08click on a project, the project shows up. I can just turn down thinking, ask it a quick question, you know, or put it
85. 15:17in plan mode, ask it a question, let it do its planning with the quick model, then turn it back up for something else.
86. 15:23Or maybe you turn it up for planning and down for tasks. I don't know. Um, I think that that device is going to be
87. 15:34largely useless, [laughter] [gasps] but I don't care. I'm still going to use it. Okay. Now, let's see. Codec. No, we want chat GPT.

112. 21:44showing up, Kyle. Thank you. Codeex is the new chat GPT app on Mac now. Yes. Okay. Um, Philic, [laughter] no.
113. 21:56I did kind of a joke video on this on Tik Tok. You'll see a video of me walking through the streets of Denver. Um, explaining this.
114. 22:09There are three modes now. There's chat mode, there's work mode, and there's codeex mode. The overlap between them is insane.
115. 22:24So, there's three modes, and then there's three different ways you can access them. You can access them on the web at chatgpt.com.
116. 22:32You can access them through a desktop app which you download to your computer or you can access access them on mobile
117. 22:40on in the chat GBT app there. They all have different names. They all have different features in the three different apps. It is an absolute
118. 22:52nightmare right now. So, even like what I'm looking at right now is if you're in chat mode, the interface to switch
119. 23:00models, they kind of hide the different models. You've got high and medium, which is GPT 5.6 sole, and then you've got instant, which drops
120. 23:12you back to 5.5, which makes it fast. But then I'm the same user. I'm the same user on the same computer and I click this tab for work
121. 23:29and it looks exactly the same. So if I'm if I am not aware of what chat GPT codeex is or what GPT work is, how
122. 23:41would I know the difference between these two? And then here I go to this and I I have a different interface. It's
123. 23:47now this slider which is kind of cool, but it's got an advanced tab which I can now go look at Soul, Terra, and Luna
124. 23:58with different levels of thinking with different levels of speed. So, I guess this just throws more processors at it.
125. 24:12This tells it to think longer. Both of these cost you more money, right? If you go fast and max, it's going to it's
126. 24:19going to burn through your credits faster. So, that's that. And now, if I flip over to the app, the chat GPT app,
127. 24:26I have yet another interface where I do model effort. And oh, honest to God, look at this. So, I'm in chat GPT work. There's high,
128. 24:40extra high, and ultra. Let me go back to chat GPT here. There's high, ultra high, and max. [laughter] This is so stupid. Okay.
129. 24:54Um, oh, this is the thine AI companion if you were wondering. I'm a beta tester. It keeps you from asking the questions
130. 25:06and using AI. Yeah. Okay. um what we're experiencing here and and why I'm a cranky Gen Xer in the corner office right now is that um
131. 25:25this won't be like this for long. We're in a transition period. This is this is a travesty. This is this is really
132. 25:33really really bad product design, user experience, product marketing. Like at a minimum, they could call their thinking
133. 25:42levels the same thing. Right here, it's called Max. Over here in this app, it's called Ultra. Is Ultra different than
134. 25:52Max? Who gives a [ __ ] For one thing, but why are they named different? Like, why do I, as a user, have to think about that?
135. 26:01I shouldn't have to. So, if you're confused, that's not your fault. I don't know if you've ever read Don Norman's book, The
136. 26:10Design of Everyday Things, but like one of my favorite examples he uses in there, is when you push on a
137. 26:18door that's got a horizontal bar and it doesn't open. That's not your fault. Horizontal makes your hands go like this. And when
138. 26:30your hands are like this, you push things. Vertical handles make your hand go like this. And when you grab a thing like
139. 26:37that, you pull things. So when you grab a vertical handle and pull it and it doesn't open, you're not the idiot, even
140. 26:44though you feel like the idiot. When you walk into the door for gifted children and you push on the pull door, it's not
141. 26:51your fault. Um, that's what we're experiencing here. We're being made to feel like idiots because they don't have their [ __ ] together.

146. 27:41and if I choose a project, use an existing folder. Yeah. Okay. So, so let me show you another this is this is actually a
147. 27:53really important distinction and I my my request is that you be a little bit patient with me. If this is not making sense, it's because

150. 28:35and I have a project, see these projects? Here's my Sydney project. You can't open a project anymore.
151. 28:57Okay, you can. Holy [ __ ] Does the interface really not work? So if I go to Sydney and I click on Sydney, it does not load
152. 29:13it in the right window. Project home. So I have to go to I have to go to project home. I can't click on this.
153. 29:25What this does is open up the individual chats. I can go to an individual chat which says I'm in the project and I'm in
154. 29:33this individual chat in the project and then view files in the chat.
155. 29:48Okay, this is [ __ ] maddening. So, let me go back out to new chat. Okay. So, in chat I can go to a project and the
156. 30:01icon for a project is a folder, right? This is the Mondayest Wednesday ever.
157. 30:16Yeah, this is this is meltdown Monday behavior because this this really isn't acceptable. Like, this is This is user abuse. Okay.
158. 30:33So, I'm in the I'm in chat mode. So, in chat mode, you're theoretically just chatting and getting an answer. Chatting
159. 30:42and getting an answer. Chatting and getting an answer. You can group those chats into a project which looks like a
160. 30:49folder. that folder only exists in the cloud on chat GPT server in your account. I can also go to work mode
161. 31:01and I can say choose project down here and then it gives me the same. So now I'm now I'm doing I can do a
162. 31:13gentic work using the context of this folder. But this folder is still in the cloud on my chat GBT account
163. 31:25off in the wilderness off in the data centers that everyone's trying to shut down. Okay. Now I'm going to switch over to the chat GPT app.
164. 31:35Now see the folder here. It says choose a project. Look what happens when I choose a project. I'm going to go use an existing folder.
165. 31:48I don't know if you can see that. Can you see my You could see my uh my popup window, right? Okay. This is asking me to find a folder. So
166. 32:05see this co codeex folder this folder is on my desktop and what it's doing right now is it's
167. 32:20reading that codeex folder. It's figuring out which plugins plugins I have installed. Okay, wait. I got to come back out. I
168. 32:34got to look you in the eyes for this. You're like, "But Kyle, you can't see our eyes." Shut up. Listen. This is important.
169. 32:47One of the reasons that all the nerds got really excited about codeex codeex CLI. If you don't know what CLI is, that
170. 32:56means command line interface terminal window, meaning you have access to the file system of your local computer of this
171. 33:08computer that I'm on right now. And then when they did codeex, the standalone app, the exciting thing about
172. 33:16it was it had access to your hard drive and it could use your computer and it could write files to your local hard drive. Chat GPT web app
173. 33:28doesn't have that. It's storing those project files in the cloud. This makes me want to defrag my brain. Exactly.
174. 33:39So, one of the things that I've been talking about that I think is going to be important, really important moving forward is
175. 33:48owning your own data. So using the chat GPT app and saving all those memory and context files to your local hard drive means that they're in
176. 34:00your control. You can then take those markdown files and you can use them for claude or claude co-work. Anyway,
177. 34:10you can use those for other AI systems. All that stuff I have in the Sydney folder for chat GPT that's sitting up in OpenAI's cloud. the the
178. 34:26I think critical sin that OpenAI is committing right now is that there the things called projects that have folder as an icon
179. 34:40on on chatgbt.com and the things called projects that have a folder as an icon in the chat GPT app are fundamentally different functions.
180. 34:54One is cloud storage that you do not own and one is local storage that you do and they're called the same [ __ ] thing. What the [ __ ]
181. 35:09I'm not yelling at you. You're all swell. I am I am raging on your behalf. If this seems confusing to you, it's because it is.
182. 35:26If this seems like, why should I do this? I agree. Why should I learn this? I don't know. All right.

200. 39:23Go here. We're going to log in. So what I'm logging into right now is another computer. So this is a remote
201. 39:34computer that's running chat GPT and Claude co-work. So I'm going to come in here. So there's Claude
202. 39:50and then here's ChatgPT. So this So So now notice notice that I've got two little little desktop mi's. [laughter]
203. 40:02Why do I have two? Cuz this little dude is from my local desktop. This dude here, the bigger one, is from the remote
204. 40:11machine that's obviously on a different resolution. this codeex right here inside this window. That's the other computer.
205. 40:27Let's see. Is not this codeex. So they have two different folder structures each on the local machine.
206. 40:46So, you know how it's really hard to figure out if you did a chat in Claude or Chat GPT? Well, now just within chat GPT, if
207. 40:59you're running any kind of a sophisticated setup, you've got chats and collections of chats called projects in chatgpt.com.
208. 41:10You have a local chat GPT app that's doing projects on a local folder. And then you potentially have remote chat GPT apps
209. 41:23running on different computers that you can access from this one if you have a sophisticated setup. So that's just
210. 41:29within chat GBT. I have four different places I could be executing projects.
211. 41:45You wonder why I'm angry? Claire Jacobs. Oh, good lord. Claire, I need a therapist. [laughter] Claire.

218. 43:34it is in Chat GPT's interest to have you keep your [ __ ] in the cloud because they're training their new models on our data.
219. 43:44It is in our interest to keep them all locally. So, I don't think that that's split. I don't think that that will be
220. 43:54reconciled. What they might do is they might give you the option to sync the two, but I would imagine that if you fully
221. 44:02sync your chat GPT history, it'll blow your hard drive out. You'll probably you'll probably have too much [ __ ] on your hard drive.
222. 44:12Remember, this is as bad as it will ever be. I So, but we're we're we're in a different kind of bad right now. Claire, here's
223. 44:21this is my problem. The badness that I was willing to accept that this is as bad as it will ever be was images with six fingers and the
224. 44:35words that were all janky. That was the model itself not having enough precision, not having enough data
225. 44:46that that the presumption there is that the models are going to get better and better and better and better. My problem
226. 44:53is that what they're doing now is that they're building multiple application layers on top of the same model that
227. 45:00have contradictory interfaces.
