33. 7:33million tokens you can upload like long videos and it will summarize them [ __ ] like that so that's a big
34. 7:43deal and then and then our our favorite old our favorite topof the list AI company the little company that
35. 7:55could open AI launched a text to video model today which is actually Sora s oh and I and I want your help on
36. 8:10something I want your help I just I I just sent a tweet to Sam Alman so he's doing something really cool right now so

175. 28:35coming from everywhere so like Embrace that because someone who comes from some bizarre point of view where you're like

185. 29:46don't expect that and they're in this community um empathy is another one of the values this shit's scary to a lot of

187. 30:02there people are scared right people are angry this one dude's like yeah it's stealing I'm never going to use it I'm
188. 30:09like you know dare to understand how it works and dare to understand you know how to use it well enough to understand where the
189. 30:16boundaries of it are and he said well I might be willing to try as long as it's ethical I'm like well step in start
190. 30:22playing start understanding what it is you can have a voice in that in fact one of the things that when we talk about
191. 30:29Sora tonight they're red teaming it right now so they're doing testing for safety but they're also um they're
192. 30:36giving access to it to creative Professionals in the film industry because they want input from them and so
193. 30:42that guy instead of just bitching and complaining if he got involved could actually have a voice in the future
194. 30:48direction of that like that's how early we are with this stuff so anyway have empathy for people understand that

297. 47:19AI models to do that [ __ ] oh and by the way here's a cute little video tool all text to video model Sora can generate

299. 47:36that in context the state-of-the-art as of today Runway ML and pabs let you render 4 seconds of video this is up to a
300. 47:48minute very rarely in in even a feature film do you have a segment that's longer than a minute right right you're usually
301. 47:56cutting but it's usually longer than 4 seconds so you can have a minute of video generated from a single prompt
302. 48:03here okay so let's go look at some of these things I'm going to read the prompts the the first one you've
303. 48:08probably seen if you've been paying attention at all today so this is the prompt here says a stylish
304. 48:23woman walks down a Tokyo Street filled with warm glowing neon and animated by City signage she wears a black leather
305. 48:32jacket a long red dress black boots carries a black purse she wears sunglasses and red lipstick she's walking confidently and
306. 48:41casually um the street is damp and reflective creating a mirror effect of the colorful lights now watch see that
307. 48:48cut right there that's not an edit of a separate generation that's all in a single generation it's it's doing internal
308. 49:00scene generation and and cutting itself this is a 59 second clip out of that single prompt
309. 49:14Bonkers and then the cool thing about this site is every one of these little sections there's these this is a
310. 49:19carousel so so there's nine videos here so that was the first one and each little section has its own video
311. 49:26so here's some woolly mammoths I think that one's okay not great this one's stunning The Prompt here is a movie trailer this this is what
312. 49:39gave me the idea of putting salmon flying East in there a movie trailer featuring The Adventures of a

319. 50:58recommendation absolutely you know feel the fear but jump in and start playing you can't play with this now but I if you're
320. 51:07not playing with Runway ML and P and all that sort of stuff start playing with the with the the um AI video generation
321. 51:15tools so that it just becomes another tool in your in Your Arsenal right that you know you can pick up a a red 4k
322. 51:24camera and you can pick up one of these tools and you can mix those together right storytelling is still storytelling
323. 51:31um you choosing how to prompt this and how to put these things together and understanding which tools to use where
324. 51:38and which ones are valuable and which ones aren't that will be every bit as much a skill as your current skill of
325. 51:44being able to choose a lens um do color grading all the stuff that you've you know you've learned to do in your
326. 51:50current craft this just going to be another set of tools so I would say lean into it um someone uh pinned P's thing
327. 51:58there I didn't see it so if you can repin that Mike the Hamman oh I definitely am LOL great awesome yeah yeah yeah good

334. 53:01I'm just picking that one just kind of randomly and open AI just cuz you know you mentioned it if I look at what
335. 53:08they've presented in marketing and what they've delivered in the marketplace I would say that open AI has a better
336. 53:13track record from my experience over the past year your fan fanboying hard for openai I I am yep preview of
337. 53:24open.com Sora I am because I think that this is well particularly with with how they're talking about why why it's as good as it
338. 53:37is um I'm reading between the lines and assuming that there's a hell of a lot more underneath this now is it possible
339. 53:45this [ __ ] doesn't work or it's going to cost us you know $80 you know for 100 credits and that's going to get us 100
340. 53:52seconds a video it's possible but I doubt it um all right let's see this one's cute the the flame on the candle's really
341. 54:01weird and not good but the dude is good like really good animation um this one's pretty wild The Prompt is a gorgeously rendered

373. 59:09bigger is the these it starts out with none of these dudes they just materialize out of the petri dish which
374. 59:18could be a creative choice but it's really weird that one's really weird also all the little dudes only have two legs
375. 59:25so you see them from the front they have two legs and then when they turn sideways they still only have two legs
376. 59:30so that one that one is one that I looked at it and I'm like why would they include that but you know whatever um
377. 59:37this one's this one's quite good the camera rotates around a large stack of vintage television showing different
378. 59:44programs 1950 Sci-Fi movies horror movies news static a 1970 sitcom Etc um set in side I think it's a New York City Museum
379. 59:58yeah a large New York museum Gallery right so you're in kind of this Museum space it's you know some of them
380. 1:00:06are off some of them are on some of them are static some of them are horror flick I mean it's like the prompt coherence here is pretty
381. 1:00:15tight I think that looks this one looks dumb so we'll go past it um Sora is able to generate complex
382. 1:00:23scenes with multiple characters specific types of motions and accurate details of um subject and background the model
383. 1:00:34understands this is important the model understands not only what the user has asked for in The Prompt but also how
384. 1:00:41those things exist in the physical world and so the thing that I'm thinking of is you know how when you do runway
385. 1:00:51sometimes like it'll be a car and you like have a car on a 45° angle and instead of the car like going the
386. 1:00:57direction a car would go it sort of slides towards you or it slides away on a 45° angle what this is saying is it
387. 1:01:05understands like the orientation of the object how it would inter interact with the physical world and then the first
388. 1:01:11example is the camera following behind a white vintage SUV with black roof rack as it speeds up a steep dirt road
389. 1:01:19surrounded by pine trees on a steep Mountain slope dust kicks up from its tires the sunlight Shines on
390. 1:01:29the SUV as it speeds along in the dirt road casting a h a warm glow over the scene the dirt road curves gently into
391. 1:01:36the distance with no other cars or vehicles in sight like the The Prompt coherence here is tight um the trees on the other side of
392. 1:01:45the road are redwoods with patches of greenery scattered throughout the car is seen from following the Curve making it
393. 1:01:55seem as if it's on a rugged drive- through rugged terrain the dirt road itself is surrounded by steep hills and
394. 1:02:03mountains in a clear blue sky above with whis wispy clouds the the dust kicking up from the the vehicle looks a little fake and
395. 1:02:12weird but man the like the the realism like if you just lose the if you just sort of cover that up like it's that's that's in the that's
396. 1:02:26in the hood right that's definitely in the Hood um this one blew me away this one is staggering so so the prompt
397. 1:02:39here Reflections in the window of a train traveling through the Tokyo suburbs and then look look at that reflection as it passes a
398. 1:02:50building and it shows the reflection of the woman you know filming this on her phone are you kidding me and
399. 1:02:58again how how is it doing that well it sounds like this is not just a video model this understands that there are
400. 1:03:06different objects in the scene that are in are in a reality like it understands the physical world and how objects in
401. 1:03:16the physical world interact with the other things in that environment this isn't just about video there's another drone
402. 1:03:27shot um this one's got some janky ass [ __ ] like the crabs just weird and starts to act like an octopus the the
403. 1:03:34little suction cups on the octopus thing sort of animate on their own that one's weird I that doesn't seem like one they
404. 1:03:40should have included but whatever um this one's really janky watch her arm her arm turns into a pillow and then the cat gets an extra paw
405. 1:03:55watch this look cat now here's another paw coming oh wait okay her arm turns into a pillow and then there's a second paw right
406. 1:04:12there all right so the Jank is still there but still remarkably good like this one look at the when it when it zooms back out at
407. 1:04:24the beginning of this look at the water down here so you know how in Runway the water will sometimes just sort of morph
408. 1:04:31into objects near it and it'll it'll get weird [ __ ] in it it's got It's got a coherence to it right again because if
409. 1:04:39they're doing what they say they're doing where it understands the objects in this environment and how they
410. 1:04:45interact with each other like you notice the coherence of these three birds is staying pretty tight they're not getting weird morphe heads
411. 1:04:57you know the leaves are just kind of moving naturally wild um this one was pretty good too this is a kind of a natural scene a
412. 1:05:08Chinese Lunar New Year celebration video with Chinese dragon like like this see how like it maintains its shape it
413. 1:05:17doesn't go all f [ __ ] janky and weird like all the the runway ml stuff does all right so that's that the model has
414. 1:05:27deep understanding of language enabling it to accurately interpret prompts and generate compelling characters that
415. 1:05:33Express vibrant emotions Sora can also create multiple shots with Sora can also generate multiple shots within a single
416. 1:05:42generated video that accurately persist characters and visual style so it's doing those multiple edits in a single generation
417. 1:05:55so here we are in one room in a in a gallery oh no it starts in a different room starts in that room realize that our actual reality is
418. 1:06:05just layers of probability layers yeah it's I know 101 This Is We I know we it's weird we're getting into weirdness
419. 1:06:14I told you 2024 yeah gp4 is best understood as a preview that's right Dr bod can you imagine having this well we
420. 1:06:24don't have to imagine it this is very likely going to be inside chat gp4 this capability so right now if you haven't
421. 1:06:33played with do inside chat gp4 you really should you should really understand that it can see that it can generate because this
422. 1:06:48capability you know you could be talking about marketing for your business and come up with a campaign and then just say make me that
423. 1:06:59ad and then off it will go and by the way the the goo the Gemini Pro 1.5 one of the things they demo is
424. 1:07:10it's got a million token context window and it's multimodal so you can upload videos and it understands the videos and
425. 1:07:20cut can jump right to a specific scene in the video just with a prompt I wonder how long it takes to render this this is all the
426. 1:07:28stuff we don't know Joseph you know it it there's there's two there's two really big unknowns how long does it take to render these things
427. 1:07:37and how much will they cost right is is this a $50 subscription on top of the $20 subscription or is this included in
428. 1:07:45the 20 bucks if they include even a limited version of this in the $20 version holy [ __ ] uh I I doubt that just
429. 1:07:56looking at the prices of other video generation tools and and looking at how long how long these things
430. 1:08:03are um I would think that they're going to be expensive this one this one blows me away like the coherence here look at the
431. 1:08:11legs you know you know how legs are in Runway where the the legs look like they're just floating and morphing and then there's a third
432. 1:08:18leg this unless you look for really subtle specific things doesn't look like AI generated
433. 1:08:37content like there's a weirdness where she's above this awning and then as they walk like there there's other stands
434. 1:08:49underneath that awning like now it's an appropriate height right there's some weird subtle things but if you weren't
435. 1:08:56looking for it right if you weren't paying tight attention um this one's pretty good it's a little it's a little underwhelming but
436. 1:09:06the coherence there is beautiful camera movement's interesting this one I love the prompt on this one the story of A robot's life
437. 1:09:15in a cyberpunk setting so it's maintaining the coherence of that character putting it in different settings but it's it's all in a cyberpunk
438. 1:09:29environments three different scenes as as one generation a 19-second clip with three different scenes in
439. 1:09:38it the humans are too big where in this one or in the previous one yeah the humans were too big in the previous one yeah
440. 1:09:50uh this one's quite good although it doesn't quite do the the end of this prompt is he smiles Riley as if he's
441. 1:09:56understood the secrets of the universe and that doesn't really happen but that's pretty
442. 1:10:11stunning um that one's janky that one's janky this one's this one's a little weird the snow's a little weird but
443. 1:10:20other than that like this is I could see this on a Purina dogchow commercial right you cut to the puppies frolicking in the
444. 1:10:40snow that's funny Silver Fox my current model okay okay the current model has weaknesses so this is and and Pate I think this is I think
445. 1:10:51there's a lesson here for for any company doing marketing things so they showed you a bunch of cool stuff whether or not they
446. 1:10:59purposefully put in some Jank in in in some of the collections you know for one thing it's not just one or two videos
447. 1:11:06right that like each one of these sections has eight or nine videos in it so it's a lot of content and then this section the
448. 1:11:14current model has weaknesses it may struggle to act it it may struggle with AC accurately simulating the physics of
449. 1:11:22a complex scene and may not understand specific instances of cause and effect for example a person might take a bite
450. 1:11:29out of a cookie but afterward the cookie might not have the bite mark the model also confuses spatial details of a
451. 1:11:36prompt for example mixing up left and right and may struggle to pre precisely uh to struggle with precise descriptions
452. 1:11:44of events that take place over time like following a specific camera trajectory and then they give you examples of it
453. 1:11:52right so this guy's on a tread Mill and then the treadmill is like moving like a car right like it's weird and then they
454. 1:11:58actually put in here weakness some uh Sora sometimes creates physically implausible motion so they're actually calling out
455. 1:12:09the weaknesses of the model which I think I think it's a good call this one's just weird this is kind of like
456. 1:12:15those other things look look look at all the the the the puppies just spontaneously generating out of one another
457. 1:12:24other and it says weakness animals or people can spontaneously appear especially in scenes containing multiple
458. 1:12:32entities right that's just trippy but they call it out as that's a weakness um this one's wild so that
459. 1:12:41bounces that looks good and then it goes in here and explodes and then boom and then just another ball shows up right so
460. 1:12:48prompt is basketball hoop basketball through hoop then explodes weakness an example of inaccurate physics modeling and unnatural object
461. 1:13:00morphing right so that one's weird this one's super trippy so so there's a there's a thing that's sort of like a oh no it's a
462. 1:13:16chair and then they're trying to carry it now it's just floating on its own oh my God where it's haunted
463. 1:13:25the weakness in this example Sora fails to model the chair as a rigid object leading to inaccurate physical
464. 1:13:31interactions you think it's like a [ __ ] ghost um oh and then this one she's just weird she just she goes to blow out the
465. 1:13:41candles and like is not in the same neighborhood although I've been at birthday parties where people could not
466. 1:13:47figure out how to blow out candles so I don't think this one's that far off simulating complex interactions between
467. 1:13:55objects and multiple characters is often challenging for the model sometimes resulting in humorous Generations n Nana can't blow out the
468. 1:14:11candles again Jimmy Jimmy could you get up here and blow out the candles for Nana n Nana's missing again shouldn't they wait until they
469. 1:14:20have a working product gez no I don't think so the shadow I I don't think so at all um they're putting this out to let us know what's
470. 1:14:35coming and they're also saying hey we're red teaming this right now I would I would imagine so so even though Google's Ultra launch kind of
471. 1:14:50fizzled what they launched today with with 1. five is really impressive with with Pro 1.5 is really impressive I think open AI recognizes
472. 1:15:00that they can't sit on their Laurels that at some point here someone is going to knock them off their perch and so by previewing this it it
473. 1:15:10keeps them in the capat bird's seat to say you all have no idea what's coming right like Sam mman can say it all he
474. 1:15:17wants that chat gp4 is best understood as a preview progress here is not Linear by releasing this we start to get a

482. 1:16:21into other products like DOI which basically is when you try to get DAL to do something nasty it won't do it right
483. 1:16:27so they're basically saying we're going to do the same thing with video for example once an open AI product once in an open AI product our
484. 1:16:35text classifier will check and reject text input prompts that are in violation of our usage policies like those that
485. 1:16:43request extreme violence sexual content hateful imagery celebrity likeness or the IP of others we've also developed
486. 1:16:51robust image class classifiers um that are used to review the frames of every video generated to help ensure that it
487. 1:16:59adheres to their usage policy right so so they're at least thinking about this stuff we'll be engaging with policy
488. 1:17:06makers Educators and artists around the world to understand their concerns and identify positive use cases of this new
489. 1:17:12technology despite extensive research and testing we cannot predict all of the beneficial ways people will use our
490. 1:17:19technology nor all the ways people will abuse it right and that's true like that's why they release chat gp4 is they want
491. 1:17:28people using it to see where the boundaries are that's why we believe that learning from Real World use is a critical
492. 1:17:35component to creating and releasing increasingly safe AI systems over time this one's weird there's a physics

502. 1:19:09um we represent videos and images so this this is this starts to get into some of the technical stuff that that

504. 1:19:23of data called patches Each of which is akin to a token in GPT by unifying how we represent how how we represent data
505. 1:19:33we can train diffusion Transformers on a wider range of visual data than was possible before spanning different
506. 1:19:39durations resolutions and aspect ratios don't quite know what it means but it basically sounds like they're taking a
507. 1:19:45modular approach to how they assemble this stuff and then it says Sora Builds on past research in dal and G GPT models
508. 1:19:53it uses Rec captioning technique from Dolly 3 which involves generating highly description captions for the visual
509. 1:20:00training data so this is where it writes its own prompts so so basically you're going to write a prompt it's going to
510. 1:20:07rewrite it so that it it's confident it'll do something good for you as a result the model is able to follow the
511. 1:20:13user's text instructions in the generated video more faith Faithfully in addition to being able to generate a
512. 1:20:19video solely from text instructions the model is able to take an existing still image and generate a video from it we
513. 1:20:25would expect that animating the im's contents with accuracy and attention to small detail the model can also take an
514. 1:20:32existing video and extend it or fill in missing frames learn more in our tech technical paper coming later

536. 1:24:23and sound effects and dialogue and characters and then it's going to be 60 seconds and then it's going to be
537. 1:24:373 minutes and then it's going to be 10 minutes and then it's going to be speak a feature film into existence and it do you remember

551. 1:27:08gpts but yeah like the the future version of that is yeah your dream comes to life you get to recreate the visuals and
552. 1:27:17maybe the audio and the mood of it Bonkers I like to put my image in the movie yep we'll be able to do that
553. 1:27:31imagine when AI can monitor our dreams and then realize them in video back to us yeah in the morning you wake up

870. 2:24:07there will be rudimentary game mechanics added to those and and you know maybe there's even rudimentary game mechanics
871. 2:24:14added you know this year and I think within three years it might not be a AAA game but it might be a double a game that you just
872. 2:24:27speak it into existence you say I wanted to have these game mechanics I wanted to have this kind of world environment I

881. 2:26:18but if if I figure so if you figure Apple Apple has product cycles of approximately 18 months right so we'll
882. 2:26:27see we'll see a V2 of the Vision Pro in in 18 months and then 18 months after that we'll see the V3 the V3 of the Vision
