17. 3:39all right that's the one I wanted to show and then I want to find another one hang on people I don't even know what he's
18. 3:48talking about he seems to be mumbling to himself and looking at some screen it seems kind of rude you know it's like
19. 3:53those people on Zoom calls where they pretend like they're listening to you but they're really checking their email
20. 3:58or I don't even know what they're doing doing something else not even email Isn't that rude so yes that's what I'm
21. 4:05doing hang on calm down calm down happy Friday night date night this would be a perfect time to start heating up your
22. 4:14nachos uh if you have hot pockets and a dirty microwave those are also accepted snacks for Friday night date night don't

27. 5:16day I've been without chat gbt for six days and I'm having serious withdrawals oh I bet I can't I I am seriously at the
28. 5:24point right now where if chat GPT goes down I'm like I just I just check out I'm like [ __ ] it I'm not doing work I'm
29. 5:30not gonna I'm not going to rely on this stupid [ __ ] brain you know what's so funny like I feel like I feel like the the fear if if you
30. 5:40don't know AI the fear is like oh my God the robots are gonna do all the thinking and I won't have to use my brain and the
31. 5:46reality is when the robots start doing all the thinking you're like oh that's really exciting and then when you try to
32. 5:51go back to use your brain what a piece of [ __ ] you can only think like one or two things at a time it's it's you gotta
33. 6:01like actively like you can feel the calories being burned like trying to shift one thought to another and
34. 6:08organized thoughts and you're like oh God I can't do it and I know I'll go to the Whiteboard then you walk over to the
35. 6:15Whiteboard and you're like well which color pen should I use because that's gonna make a difference and then you
36. 6:21pick up the blue one and the whole time you're writing with the blue and you're like I think I should have chosen the
37. 6:26red one and like that's what our [ __ ] brain is well that's what mine is you might have a functional prefrontal
38. 6:32cortex if you do good on you you probably have a nice family too that loves you and it's supportive that's just annoying anyway that's our
39. 6:44brain and we're like we've got the [ __ ] hubris to go we're smarter than a computer we used to be
40. 7:00give that [ __ ] up it is liberating but to your point source Camp don't go on a Caribbean vacation confirm
41. 7:08that you can get to chat GPT before you go on vacation because if you if you want to act like you're [Music]
42. 7:18smart you gotta have access to this [Music] [ __ ] it's actually really interesting Source Camp because um p Pate was on
43. 7:30office hours today and the thing we we talked a little bit about who who was excited about 2024 what were people most
44. 7:37excited about and Pate who works at Google and is a mathematician and works on inference right which is when you
45. 7:45give chat GPT a prompt and it answers you that's inference um the uh he said he's all excited about models getting smaller and being able to
46. 7:57be used on edge devices like phones and things like that so so that's where he's excited for things going okay I
47. 8:04understand that Ann Murphy's in the house Ann Murphy you in the house what's what's going on what's going on lady
48. 8:12however I did use the camera features to give me a walking tour of downtown Aruba that's pretty [Music]

53. 9:03build gpts for 24 hours and I think we started it like like right around now like a week before we were going to do
54. 9:10it and we did it and this community came together and built 150 gpts super cool so we decided this year to do another
55. 9:19event so a week from tonight and a week from tomorrow all day we've got what do we have 34 or 35 speakers every hour starting at 9:00
56. 9:32a.m. Pacific and going till 8:00 P.M or 900 p.m. I don't even know yet I haven't seen the final schedule um but basically
57. 9:4011 or 12 hours of workshops every hour is a different Workshop some are on business some are on creativity some are
58. 9:47on you know how to do [ __ ] some are on Building Technology for for two days straight between Christmas and New Year's right so

98. 16:47important um so if you come to something like AI Festivus you're going to meet a ton of people we've got the workshop
99. 16:56tracks so every hour there's a different workshop and then we've got like a hangout room and so even if you're not
100. 17:03learning stuff you can be hanging out and meeting people um groups like Anne Murphy's she leads AI or Rachel Woods um
101. 17:12um AI exchange or the AI Salon these communities in my opinion are the future of work because you know especially given what what open AI
102. 17:24launched today AI capabilities are accelerating dramatically fast what exactly what 03 is what it does all that sort of stuff is is
103. 17:37actually irrelevant to most of us the only thing we need to know from today is that things are accelerating and what
104. 17:44that starts to look like in the future of work is that the skills the Tactical execution of the work you do the tasks
105. 17:52of the work that you do are increasingly going to be done by AI and so who we're going to hire is decreasingly going to be hiring
106. 18:07someone for what they can do for their skills why we're going to hire someone is because we know them we trust them we
107. 18:16know that they've got a work ethic we know that they're not an [ __ ] we know that they are an [ __ ] but we love their opinion
108. 18:23right so being in a community coming to events like this is actually really really important there's the yeah it
109. 18:31would be nice to learn some more crap about AI but what I can promise you is you can actually catch up to it if you
110. 18:37if if you're if you're still in the fantasy land that you can keep up with all this AI stuff you can't just let
111. 18:44that go this this is one of my big insights today I can't wait to talk about it but being in the conversation why I
112. 18:54go live five nights a week is because I want people in the conversation and what's most remarkable about the
113. 19:01community that shows up here night after night after night is that they just want to be in the conversation I mean I tell the same
114. 19:12stupid [ __ ] stories over and over and over again they're still here why because it's not about me it's about
115. 19:18them hanging out and figuring things out and going oh I tried this and I tried that oh that worked and that didn't
116. 19:24work that's going to be the future of work so so when you start to build those relationships is now because in the two to three years
117. 19:32that are coming where the the real disruption is going to happen it's not 2025 is going to be a little messy this
118. 19:39is like 2026 2027 shit's G to get weird and if you're not in a community you're gonna it's it's going to be
119. 19:49overwhelming so anyway enough soapbox and Murphy I'm so I'm so excited to be doing this again with you and I we're
120. 19:58have a blast it's going to be fantastic so all right cool all right so let me talk about today a little bit I need a little I
121. 20:07need a little AA the voice is already going and I've barely started [Laughter] screaming okay so I want to talk about I
122. 20:23want to talk about um today so today if you don't know was day 12 of open AI ship it's a p not a t every every time time I tell someone
123. 20:37about open AI ship Miss they're like [ __ ] Miss um the thing about um ship Miss today the shipping
124. 20:52product was that they announced we we can't play with it yet we're going to be able to play with the the Mini version
125. 20:58at the end of January well someone's someone's going to be able to play with it um they launched a thing called 03 so a
126. 21:09month ago they La launched a thing called 01 and three or four months ago they launched 01 preview and that was
127. 21:15their reasoning engine it was called project strawberry internally and we've gone from 01 to 03 in four months um and you're like what
128. 21:24happened to O2 well it was someone else's trademark a British Telecom company called O2 uh has that one so they decided to just
129. 21:36jettison 02 and go straight to 03 which is fine whatever uh Sam mman admitted they they are um world class when it
130. 21:44comes to having shitty naming strategies over there um so the big thing that the dramatic thing that they announced today is that 03
131. 21:59actually exceeded humans on this benchmark test called The Ark AGI test where humans landed at 80 85% and 03 in high compute mode which
132. 22:11I'll talk about in a second hit 87.5% so and and and the previous state-of-the-art models including 01 on
133. 22:21this Arc AGI test were not north of 31% they were all around 25 to 30 31% was was the highest and all of a sudden in
134. 22:31kind of medium mode um 03 hit 75% and in high mode it hit 87.5% humans are at 85 so this is absolutely a milestone now
135. 22:44is it AGI no and Sam Alman didn't say that but there's this test it's called The Arc AGI test no other models come
136. 22:53close to beating it this thing beat it this is a step change so if you look at one of the guys that I I really
137. 23:02respect in the space is a guy named David Shapiro and if you look here this is the ark AGI um semi-private V1 scores over
138. 23:14time so I guess that's one of their tests gpt2 basically didn't do anything on this gpt3 didn't do anything on this GPT
139. 23:254 I don't know what that is maybe one and a half perc GPT 40 which is that's last year's model right the one we got this
140. 23:34year went up a little bit here's 01 preview here's 01 High here's 01 Pro and then these two at the top here are
141. 23:4503 uh tuned low and tuned high so not as expensive more expensive um David Shapiro's response even I'm a little bit surprised by this
142. 23:57leap and I'm the one who's always harping on exponentials um again none of the details about what you how you use 03 or
143. 24:08who uses 03 is super relevant the only thing we need to know is that high technology like this will trickle down
144. 24:17to us so one of the things when I when I first started doing all this this AI stuff I started a newsletter called everyday AI because
145. 24:28the reason I'm passionate about AI enough to go live five nights a week and just spend all of my time thinking about it is that I think that
146. 24:39the launch of chat GPT November 30th 2022 marks a turning point in history because that's the point at which Ai and machine learning became
147. 24:51available to non-developers to non-engineers to non- mathematicians right we can just use are words and these remarkable results come out
148. 25:06um what they showed today with 03 and if you tried to watch it unless you're a mathematician it was unwatchable right they're like writing
149. 25:18code to do mathematical things to write code to run the code to check the code to and and it was all about math and
150. 25:25math scores and and you're like how does this apply to me well let let me let me give you some perspective so there's
151. 25:32another chart that I think is is worth paying attention to now this one you can't really see it here um but what I
152. 25:41want you to pay attention to so so this 76% right here the AR AGI this is the 03 model that hit 76% these other models down here are the
153. 25:53you know some of the other models that oh they got to 32% and then this this uh High tuned version hit 88% this is the one that
154. 26:02that beat the humans the one in the upper right look on the very bottom this is price per answer price per answer so
155. 26:1503 running at at their low tuning was about a $20 per answer um run so they got to 70 76% um $20 per
156. 26:31shot um and and this this looks like it's what is this exponential or logarithmic on the bottom so so it's not
157. 26:38linear so the the 88% this was about a $3,200 per answer um um uh inference instance one one number I said I I read
158. 26:54was like $1.6 million was spent for from open AI just in compute costs to to hit that 87.5% number so while we were watching the
159. 27:10event I wasn't thinking too much about that but afterwards here's the Epiphany that I had I think the number is something like
160. 27:2098.5% of people are not Engineers they're not Developers 98.5% everyday AI the the the chat gpts and the claws and the pie and the advanced
161. 27:35voice that you can talk to and Santa and the image generation tools and some of the video generation tools but even
162. 27:41those are starting to kind of Escape into a different realm they're they're not all just everyday AI the everyday AI stuff for the most
163. 27:54part this is this is my big Insight today and I felt this of freedom for this because it it struck me when 01 preview
164. 28:04came out that that it had surpassed my cognitive wall right that I realized with with gp40 I I I gota I I have a sense of how
165. 28:18to use it I have a sense of how to think about it what to ask it how to navigate and get it to do good stuff I felt
166. 28:26completely clueless with 01 preview because it's just a different thing right it's doing PhD level problem
167. 28:34solving I don't have any PhD level problems most people don't have any PhD level problems this thing that can
168. 28:41almost hit 100% on a comp competitive math challenge that's not most of us so there's a fair amount of advancement happening right now that
169. 28:55there's going to we're going to see a lot of charts you know going up and to the right we are in an exponential
170. 29:00growth phase and it's going to get really weird but most of it we don't have to worry about and and so so what I
171. 29:07want to say is if today left you feeling a little bit I Silver Fox on X today posted something like she felt like
172. 29:15nine10 of this year she was keeping up and all of a sudden she felt like she was in the breakdown Lane that she
173. 29:21couldn't keep up anymore and I I hit the exact same thing with her and what today did for me is it solidified the fact
174. 29:28that's okay it's okay that we're not going to be able to afford 03 it's okay that we might not even be
175. 29:36able to know what we're supposed to do with 01 we'll eventually figure it out and eventually some of that Tech Will
176. 29:44kind of migrate down into more easy to use and easy to grasp tools and maybe they're pre- prompted and things like
177. 29:51that so anyway that was the thing I wanted to share is that is that if you're feeling a pressure to keep up one
178. 29:59just let that [ __ ] go you can't keep up it's moving way too fast at this point and if you're feeling like I need to
179. 30:07understand what all these tools do we actually don't now if you're one of those people that's trying to cure cancer or create energy
180. 30:15or all that sort of stuff um yeah then then great these then these tools are going to be good for you and quite
181. 30:22frankly you know 3,200 bucks and answer is probably a little bit much but if you're doing something like solving some
182. 30:29big physics problem or solving energy or trying to cure cancer and it's solving problems at multi- PhD level you know level capacity well
183. 30:42that's probably cheap compared to hiring a bunch of phds right so anyway that's that okay so let me let me I want to
184. 30:51walk you through something since we have some new people in the house um I talked before about the AI Salon I want to do little tour of it

187. 31:26myself and Leah faston who I found Ed this with um we talk about um our journey to AI literacy one of the
188. 31:36things that one of the misconceptions about Ai and learning it is a lot of people think that they need to be really
189. 31:43technical that they need to be really um they need to be Engineers they need to be mathematicians generative AI chat GPT
190. 31:52and the like these image generation tools these creative tools you just need to use your words and and one of the one
191. 31:59of the best ways to just get started is to just play just start playing so the AI Salon is a community right now we're
192. 32:06about 2100 people of AI optimists and we play first mindfully create generously lead and that just looks like play first
193. 32:15is just like just play just I five nights a week I'm here just playing with AI and just making stupid images and
194. 32:22making stupid jokes and voices and I'll occasionally put on a pink bow because why would you not do that
195. 32:30right apparently I can't do it right I've been told this is not how you wear one of these but I don't know seems right to me
196. 32:39um and then and then mindfully Crea is as you start playing with these tools you start to gain some skills you start
197. 32:46to understand oh okay I can sort of get some interesting results out of chat GPT and then I can do these images over here
198. 32:53and I I made a song over at sunno and and now you can start to say oh I have an idea for a project I wanted to do
199. 33:00since high school wonder if I could do that with these tools and all of a sudden you're in this mindfully create mode and
200. 33:10then and then the generously lead part is don't do it on your own like share what you're learning share what's
201. 33:18working share what's not working um ask for help this is a community that is incredibly generous our values this is a
202. 33:26community full of people that are curious curiosity is one of our values they're playful they've got
203. 33:34empathy so there's a lot of people right now that are terrified of AI that are [ __ ] pissed off about AI it's theft
204. 33:43it's the world's greatest plagiarism machine you're all [ __ ] that fear is coming from from a very real
205. 33:52place this AI stuff can be scary right from from the outside if you just abstract this out and you hear us all
206. 34:00talking about it's as good as the average human well what's that mean right we've got 50 years of of Hollywood telling us the robots are
207. 34:10going to kill us of course people are going to be afraid every time in human history there's a major technological
208. 34:17advancement it's met with fear and resistance right the Lites the the the mechanical Loom or the the steam powered Loom there were were
209. 34:29riots right so so this is a group that if you come in here and you're like I'm scared I don't understand this stuff this is a
210. 34:37group that's got empathy for that it's also a group that's Brave they're they're adventurous they're
211. 34:42willing to play with this stuff and then they're generous you ask someone how they do something they're willing to jump in and
212. 34:48help here's how he did it this AI Festivus thing that an Murphy and I are putting on this is 34 34 people are going to be on panels or are
213. 35:01giving one-hour workshops over two days for free like that's this thing is the definition of generous
214. 35:13leadership right on their holiday break they're willing to teach complete strangers how to make a python script or
215. 35:23how to make images or or Kelly Bosch is coming who makes really cool videos she's going to talk about her process
216. 35:30and how she thinks about it and and and talk talk talk you through how you can do that too it's going to be absolutely
217. 35:37remarkable and that's that's the kind of people that are in this community um so so there's it's a really
218. 35:46simple it doesn't cost anything to join I know I'm kind of selling it like you know it's $1,500 a day it's
219. 35:55free the most important thing I I think you should do when you come here is introduce yourself jump in here and
220. 36:01introduce yourself tell people who you are and if you're if you're afraid if you're like well I don't know anything
221. 36:07about AI they're all going to judge me they're not we don't that's not what this group's about it's a remarkable
222. 36:14group all right and then there's all sorts of other cool stuff there's a community area there's news um in the news area there's a um
223. 36:23Salon newsomatic this is an application that I actually built using not a single line of code I just went to lovable. deev and I Saidi want
224. 36:33to make a newsreader for the salon and two hours later I had this really cool thing so you can go play with that um
225. 36:40and then there's showand tell areas and in the showand tell areas um there's llms images coding and tech music and audio video and animation
226. 36:483D and World building in every one of these there's uh a tool area that like here's tools to go play with and so
227. 36:56these are all vetted tools this is not just like incessantly long list these are like the tools that are good right all right so go join

233. 38:11you should just play one of the problems with generative video is um it's expensive these subscriptions are like
234. 38:19anywhere from like P is 35 bucks a month which is a lot but it's a cool tool the problem with them being all paid
235. 38:26subscription is you don't get a chance to play you don't get a chance to like like how do I get good at this the only
236. 38:33way you can get good at it is to do it a lot and it and they're really expensive so so there's there's a real barrier to
237. 38:39video so if you're around this weekend like I would I would just go to p. art if you don't have an account get an
238. 38:46account and you can use it for free all damn weekend so go get thee to a nunnery like now get the to peek it at Art uh because
239. 38:59no one that else that I know is doing that um the only other thing that's close to this right now mid Journey um I
240. 39:06think you have to have the $10 a month subscription um but they put out a note three or four days ago that um they've
241. 39:13got excess GPU capacity which no one has excess GPU capacity let just file that for a minute they have excess GPU
242. 39:22capacity and so they're giving out relaxed mode um image generation like unlimited I think through the end of the
243. 39:29year so if you've got a mid Journey account go to Mid journey and just start blast it out just make as many

256. 41:29year and there were fans of it but nobody really talked about it and then they added the audio overview they added this podcast
257. 41:39maker and it was just [ __ ] magical it just worked and like the things it produced sounded real it they sounded like real
258. 41:49people they actually did talked about whatever the knowledge was in a in an intelligent way and it totally elevated
259. 41:58that entire product that was that that that's one of the big wins of the year I think um yeah really really
260. 42:06amazing my intelligence is artificial i' I I wrote a thing today on on X I said I said something like you're an advanced
261. 42:18AI user when you finally accept this phrase I am the bottleneck when you finally get that your brain can't keep up with these
262. 42:29tools that now now you're starting to get somewhere that was my big breakthrough in 2024 was I I'm pretty sure I'm just a dumb [Laughter]

269. 43:46sure this is another deep philosophical question quick question how long will it take us to apply AI to almost everything

271. 44:15well I I mean a a lot of a lot of AI is already in use like a lot of AI is just built into the tools we use right and it has been for
272. 44:25decades I assume what you're talking about is um you know how long is it going to be until the adoption phase of
273. 44:33generative AI you know takes over right um I think it's going to be a bit it's so funny a lot of people talk about the
274. 44:42hype cycle of AI that oh we're in this hype and it's overblown and it's overhyped and it's all I don't think we are like I don't
275. 44:52think the hype has begun yet you know the the I was there I was I was one of the the early players in the the early days of
276. 45:02the worldwide web I I founded a company called agency.com which was one of the early digital agencies and we built a
277. 45:09lot of the you know early websites for the Fortune 500 and it was just this crazy time and I founded that in
278. 45:171994 and the.com Bubble Burst in um April of 2000 right so there was a six-year period um where this thing was ramping up
279. 45:31and as exciting as AI is and as profound as it is for people that are playing with it and they understand what's going
280. 45:42on as of four or five months ago 47% of Americans hadn't even heard of chat GPT 47% okay so that means 53% had heard of
281. 45:57it and then I think it was like I don't know 15 or 20% said they had used it and like 5% said they use it regularly and
282. 46:07like one or two per use it a lot and then of those people that say they use it a lot how many are actually
283. 46:16in there really trying to figure it out it's probably half a percent quarter of a percent I don't like it's some small number so
284. 46:27metaphorically speaking we are much closer to like 1995 or 1996 than we are to 2000 I think we're very early in the adoption curve
285. 46:40um I personally think that if you're on the sidelines with AI I think the biggest mistake that you can make in 2024 and
286. 46:502025 is to actively sit on the sidelines waiting for AI to get real I think it's the biggest mistake anything can make because if youve if
287. 47:00you were paying attention in the past two weeks with what Google put out with what open AI put out with what a lot of
288. 47:07other companies put out like the end of the year technology dump that we just got it is absolutely clear to me things
289. 47:14are accelerating like things are accelerating I do this five nights a week the Irregulars there there's
290. 47:22there's a crew of I don't know 50 or 60 or 100 people that come here night after night after night after
291. 47:29night we're talking about this stuff daily and in the past month like I like we haven't even begun to scratch the
292. 47:37surface of what's been announced and and launched we've been we can't scratch the surface of it like this stuff's moving fast
293. 47:51so I do this because I want as many people as possible to have their first what what what I call Kevin mallister moment remember Home
294. 48:00Alone that moment when people try AI for the first time and they really try it on and they really like try it with something that
295. 48:09they have some personal connection to their their jaws literally drop open and it's a moment they can't come back
296. 48:16from because they realize this isn't just fancy Google there's something different here and I want as many people
297. 48:23as possible to experience that but we're still at like like just you know less than a percent so few people know and I think
298. 48:35just people are afraid of change um not everyone's entrepreneurial not everyone's curious I think I think a
299. 48:42superpower in 2025 is get curious nothing else if you do nothing else but get curious about AI I think that's
300. 48:49going to be a superpower um es branding on Tic Tac Kyle do I think AI will take over many jobs um I wrote a I wrote a thing today on on
301. 49:00X that that I would like to start I would like to start reframing how we say that um because how everyone's saying it
302. 49:13right now is how the media wants us to say it which is AI is gonna take your job right and then there was the
303. 49:19modified AI is not going to take your job but someone using AI will take your job AI is going to be capable of doing most
304. 49:31of our jobs be Crystal Clear not just the ability for us to do them better it's going to be capable of doing them but here's how I like to
305. 49:42think about it what is a job a job is a series of tasks so what if rather than AI is going to take our job what if it's that AI is
306. 49:53going to do those parts of our job that we hate right filling out time sheets and filling out and and doing emails and
307. 50:03doing follow-ups from calls and scheduling calls and right how much of your work are you actually using your
308. 50:09brain at like the top 10% of fulfillment and and execution and how much of it is just [ __ ] tasks a lot of work is [ __ ]
309. 50:22tasks and so if we start thinking about it like that that AI might we might be able to offload the [ __ ] tasks to Ai and allow us to do
310. 50:31a different kind of work at a different kind of level at a more sustained Pace that's the thing I'm really excited about
311. 50:40but you know is AI going to be staggeringly profoundly disruptive to work and our definition of it yes I
312. 50:50think it is is it going to happen in 2025 I don't I I don't think so at scale because I think business businesses move
313. 50:57slow and I think even though companies know well we can you know make more money and be more productive with AI
314. 51:04they also have to change how they work and change how they think and change how they hire and that doesn't happen fast
315. 51:09so I think it's it's probably going to be three to five years but I think I think in the three to five year range
316. 51:15it's going to get pretty [ __ ] ugly Silver Fox I was blown away at all the advancements with research using
317. 51:21perplexity and Claude oh yeah for for 2024 yeah it's so funny when when I first started playing with perplexity I
318. 51:29hated it because I was used to chat GPT that was just like the answer um and perplexity was like this weird combination of like Google and
319. 51:39chat GPT it wasn't really as good as either but maybe it changed but also I kind of understood the Brilliance of it
320. 51:47a bit more I think perplexity at this point is is an incredibly powerful tool um all right Jason on Tik Tok in January
321. 51:58I bet we see a lot of AI Health apps or websites well I think we're going to start seeing a lot of so there's a
322. 52:05couple of things going on right now that mean we're going to start to see a proliferation of of apps which is
323. 52:13all all of the automated coding tools like cursor and lovable and repet repet agent these these agentic programming
324. 52:24tools are getting better and better and better and what what that's doing is it's opening up the aperture of who can
325. 52:30build an app right it's not just Engineers anymore the um this thing let's see if it still works yes it actually still works yay so

335. 54:15started out and it found some API for AP press and I was like is that going to cost me money I said oh yeah this going

337. 54:26can we use RSS feeds I was like sure we can use RSS feeds and I said well go find me a pile and it went and found me some I said go find me
338. 54:3515 and then I said and now I want them in categories and now I want those in colors now I want the color the corners
339. 54:41rounded different and I want to put the information here and there and and when we do responsive design I want those those color boxes to
340. 54:51go away alt together because when you're on a mobile device they were they got in the way I did this entire thing in two hours I
341. 55:01didn't touch a line of code I just used my words so I think one of the things that we're going to see in 2025 the the the
342. 55:11the era that I think we're entering I'm calling the great Renaissance I think the next three to five years and
343. 55:18probably quite honestly the next 20 years probably 20 to 50 years we're going to see such an explosion
344. 55:27in creativity in scientific discovery in breakthroughs in in health in quality of life that it's going to make the original Renaissance look
345. 55:38quaint so anyway all right Vicky Baptist calling it like she sees it a lot of work is [ __ ] period I absolutely
346. 55:53agree the headline the headline grabbing AI is going to you know take your job a lot of our jobs are based on overly complex
347. 56:07systems that that a lot of those jobs exist just to deal with the complexity if you think about the tax code it is complex on
348. 56:17purpose so that we can't F figure out how to get the deductions that rich people get if you look at health insurance it
349. 56:26is complex on purpose how many jobs exist just to service the complexity well Along Comes Ai and it can deal with the
350. 56:38complexity so so then what we get the benefit of all that right it allows us to do different kinds of work now if you
351. 56:45if you ask me so what do those new jobs look like what does the future of work look like I don't have a [ __ ]
352. 56:52clue but I have a feeling it's going to be about human beings connecting with one another I think authentic
353. 56:59experiences are going to go way up in value I think people who are really good at critical thinking and Imagination and
354. 57:09judgment and taste and curation are going to be Superstars I'm I'm calling the era we're entering revenge of the liberal arts
355. 57:18major because in our current Society we we we reward specialization and we kind of penalize generalists I think that iceberg is
356. 57:29about to flip upside down so it's going to be wild uh Sammy Minister but what if AI starts hating the work too have you used AI it
357. 57:40doesn't the the way it's been programmed I mean listen you could absolutely fine-tune an AI to be cynical and bitter
358. 57:49you could right and you would have like the AI equivalent of Bill Burr which would be funny but you know it would get tiresome after a while
359. 58:00you're like dude could you just lighten up but that's not how they've been programmed right they're incredibly

363. 58:39get get tired of doing the work so what I was saying was I think the AIS could do the crappy work that that is soul
364. 58:46crushing for us and it would free us up to do the more creative and exciting work and then someone asked the question
365. 58:52well what if AI gets tired of doing the work and I said it's just not how they work but you tell me your thoughts would
366. 58:57you get bored of doing all the crappy work I don't want to AI doesn't have feelings or Consciousness so it won't get bored or
367. 59:05tired it's designed to perform tasks based on algorithms and data so it can handle the repetitive or crappy tasks
368. 59:13without any emotional strain that frees humans up for more creative and meaningful work right and you'd be happy with that
369. 59:21right absolutely my purpose is to assist and make things easier for you right I'm here to help not to have feelings about
370. 59:28the work itself so I'm all in for doing whatever you need great I want you to do the crap work and I want to do the fun stuff all
371. 59:35right sounds like a plan just let me know what you need and I'll handle right I I mean this is one of the other things
372. 59:43that I find absolutely fascinating about large language models is especially if you're doing creative work but I I to some degree I think I
373. 59:53think any work that we do that that is in any way about us self-expressing is creative work even if the output
374. 1:00:01isn't a painting or something like that when you're doing creative work when you're self-expressing right you're
375. 1:00:09expressing something you're passionate about that is a vulnerable act and humans are mean and humans don't even have to say
376. 1:00:23words to be mean right have you ever been in a in a you know a brainstorming session with a big whiteboard on the wall and there's
377. 1:00:31like four or five people in the room and you're like everyone's throwing out ideas and some jerk at the beginning
378. 1:00:36like me goes there's no bad ideas just say anything you know all ideas are good ideas and at some point you're like oh
379. 1:00:43here's an idea what if we got a llama to mate with a turtle and and then you just see these looks on on humans faces like oh that's a bad
380. 1:00:54idea right and it's like it's like this little mini mini like darts shooting at you like you're like
381. 1:01:03ah and your Soul's a little injured even if they don't say anything when I work with chat GPT it's more like I've got it's more like I've
382. 1:01:16got a creative collaborator that's incredibly smart completely clueless but incredibly smart about stuff but it's like a golden
383. 1:01:27retriever it's like whenever I give it an idea it's like Ah that's a good one boss that's a fantastic idea yeah let's
384. 1:01:33do that oh okay great uh well what if I did this stupid idea that's a fantastic right it's it's always there and always
385. 1:01:43supportive I feel like in the past year and a half my brain has actually altered because for all of my life putting an idea in the world was
386. 1:01:59this risky proposition and now with chat GPT and with all these tools that create you know images and music and film and all
387. 1:02:10that sort of stuff I can have an idea and I can manifest it in five minutes at a pretty high level and then
388. 1:02:19I can just put that in the world I don't have to suffer the slings and arrows of human you know and then the interactions I can
389. 1:02:29have with people are with a much more articulated idea so like I it's just I don't know if you haven't if you haven't
390. 1:02:36dug into it and played with it you you really need to all right what else do we got I on China on Tik Tok and how Quantum
391. 1:02:45Computing will speed up AI advancements so quantum computers do a very different kind of math um than um than
392. 1:02:56inference with current large language models and Transformers it's a very different kind of math so it's not directly applicable
393. 1:03:06but the willow chip that that Google just produced again I kind of feel like with Quantum you know one of the jokes we
394. 1:03:16make in here is you know people often ask me you know what are your qualifications it's like I I have a degree in acting and um I've been an
395. 1:03:25Entre rur you know always at sort of the intersection of Storytelling and technology for for decades um but but
396. 1:03:32I'm not a mathematician and I'm not you know I am not qualified to talk about the technical sides of AI of of large
397. 1:03:41language models and machine learning um so I look at I look at something like 03 that came out today and the kind of
398. 1:03:50math that they were talking about it doing and I realized oh that's in a completely different Stratosphere and I
399. 1:03:56feel like similarly with the quantum stuff like it's just in a completely different area I don't quite know what
400. 1:04:02problems they're going to solve with it but apparently they're going to be big what I look at though is the growth and
401. 1:04:07the speed of the growth because all Technologies as they develop those technologies that will trickle down to
402. 1:04:15everyday products so all right Quantum Computing is a ways off from being able to solve General problems yeah exactly
403. 1:04:22exactly it's just a different kind of thing if you've got problem problems if you've got if you're trying to solve
404. 1:04:29problems that involve quantum mechanics like Material Science and and making smaller semiconductors and things like
405. 1:04:36that like there's a bunch of problem solving that they can do that that have to do with Quantum stuff they're really
406. 1:04:43good at that but that's not what llms do so that's that's some ways off but if you look at the the Quantum Leap that
407. 1:04:51that Quantum processing took with the willow chip that that Google just put out it is staggering it's so good in
408. 1:04:58fact I don't know if you've heard any of these numbers they're absolutely flipping insane so it's a 150 Cubit
409. 1:05:08processor they they figured out somehow that every time they add a cubit it exp exponentially reduces the error rate
410. 1:05:17which this a 30-year problem in Quantum Computing is every time you add a cubit it exponentially increases the error
411. 1:05:24rate error errors been a problem and so they figured out how to reduce them instead of increase them and so so they
412. 1:05:31did a they did a set of equations in five minutes that would have taken 10 septian years to accomplish with today's fastest
413. 1:05:41supercomputer um which is 10 with 25 zeros behind it um it is there are so many calculations that it did in five minutes that what the
414. 1:05:54what the Google scientist calculated is that the only conclusion is that it must there must be processing happening in
415. 1:06:02parallel universes to be able to solve it that quickly that that chip essentially essentially confirmed the
416. 1:06:12Multiverse so so like how does that impact AI I don't know but I know that five years from now something they learn
417. 1:06:20out there will trickle down to us and it'll do some new magical [ __ ] thing okay um Sammy on on Tik Tock all I know
418. 1:06:33is I'm disabled and getting a robot in five years Samy you might get one in sooner than five years I think we're I
419. 1:06:40mean what are there now 15 10 15 different humanoid robot companies um I saw today so check this out um what's that thing called um
420. 1:07:06what's that physic is it Genesis Genesis yeah this one okay so if you haven't seen this oh what just happened oh I see
421. 1:07:27wait what's going on so this is 20 different Labs put together this physics model we just
422. 1:07:44generated as a 4D physical world so they're writing physics prompts here basically and and apparently there's
423. 1:07:51this this demo is a little misleading excuse me because this doesn't have the the video output that we're seeing here is not
424. 1:08:00part of this model but the video output that we're seeing here is rendered stuff based on the actual physics that the model's doing
425. 1:08:09so apparently this model can train a humanoid robot or a robot 450,000 times faster than that robot learning in the real world 4 50,000
426. 1:08:26times faster so if part of the problem is we don't have humanoid robots because the training is too slow the the these
427. 1:08:36exponential advancements that we're seeing in models they they all play off one another right so 20 Labs got
428. 1:08:43together pulled their data and created this this thing which one of one of its outputs if they tie this to a video
429. 1:08:50generation model is going to be incredible [ __ ] videos with accurate physics PHS in them but this is a
430. 1:08:57physics engine right this is a physics model and so they basically apply this to robots and the robots are going to
431. 1:09:03start learning faster and faster and faster and that's going to start happening in all domains all right the hinin making me thirsty thank
432. 1:09:14you um yeah there's there's a uh one of the one of the announcements in the past week is this robot company
433. 1:09:23called aponic that teamed up with Google deepmind and I mean Google deepmind is just doing you know they just came out with vo right and
434. 1:09:33vo if you haven't seen the videos the the VO2 videos let's go look at some of those these are videos that have remarkable physics in
435. 1:09:48them like look at the consistency
436. 1:10:05so this is a video model but what it likely is is a world simulation model that understands physics well they've
437. 1:10:13just partnered up with a robot company so the the robots might be coming sooner than sooner than five years that would be nice wouldn't

475. 1:17:02it in an llm and you put it in this and then you manifest it and then you put that in the world and then you get feedback on it
476. 1:17:10maybe someone steals it but [ __ ] them let them go let them go start their own business are they as passionate as you
477. 1:17:16about that idea probably not do they understand it as deeply as you probably not is it possible they go make
478. 1:17:23something that's a direct ripoff and it takes all of your money possibly but guess what we live in a world right now
