39. 10:23had a lovely Salon tonight thank you to Michael Boer who uh spoke to us from Down Under um about kind of his Epiphany he had an
40. 10:33epiphany when he was 12 when he watched an episode of the $6 million man we can rebuild him we've got the technology we can make him better
41. 10:44faster stronger and then when he started playing with chat GPT he realized holy [ __ ] this is one of those that was kind of
42. 10:56cool he also talked a lot about um this was at the at the the salon meeting so if you don't know the hell I'm talking
43. 11:04about oh shoot I don't have keynote running hold please he talked about oh no that's not it
44. 11:23wrong Tik Tock Tik Tock live so if you don't know what the AI Salon is is go to the salon. and you can read about what we're
45. 11:34up to and then there's a button there that says join the community and if you join the community there's a little seven-step
46. 11:41welcome process doesn't cost anything and one of those steps is RSVP for meetings we have two meetings a
47. 11:48month the first Tuesday of the month which was tonight and the third Tuesday and uh so so Michael presented tonight and one
48. 11:58of the things he t talked about he was talking about AI as a mirror and how he described it was when he was limited in his
49. 12:13thinking about what AI could do it mirrored him so when he put in a shitty prompt without enough context it responded with a shitty answer
50. 12:31and then when he took the time to kind of learn what's possible and he expanded how he thinks about interacting with
51. 12:39machines and thought of it more like a collaborative partner than a Google search it opened things up for him and
52. 12:49this actually tied into a thing I've been feeling over the past couple of months which is I can I can now articulate it I could
53. 12:59articulate it earlier today but after the after the salon meeting tonight I can articulate it as the AI tools have gotten more and
54. 13:08more capable and there's more and more tools that are more and more capable you can literally just pick a
55. 13:18tool any tool it's it's like I'm like a magician pick a tool any tool right pick a card any card and any one of those
56. 13:25tools can likely solve whatever you're trying to do can likely help you write the screenplay or make the movie or whatever the [ __ ] it
57. 13:35is it doesn't [ __ ] matter it can likely do it and so and the homework I gave last weekend was take something that you want
58. 13:44to do and do it in three different tools and then go beyond the thing you want to do right so here's the thing that I can
59. 13:51articulate now that has just been this nagging Instinct and it's this and it's weird it's not normal well it's my brain so of course
60. 14:09it's not normal Abby normal I'm AB normal we're irregular
61. 14:25um as I'm interacting with these tools that are increasingly capable the thing that's been nagging at me is that I I am the limiting
62. 14:39factor and here's what I mean by that if I say I want to make a marketing plan how we've used tools historically
63. 14:52how we how we've used pads of paper and books and how we've used computers and how we've used the internet is that I say I want to work on
64. 15:03a marketing plan and I go to these tools and I work on a marketing plan and I and I go buy a book on how to write
65. 15:10marketing plans and then I read that book well I have ADD so I don't read it but I read the first three pages at
66. 15:17least and then I read chapter headings to I I get enough right I just synthesize it and it's like I just need
67. 15:23the broad I don't it's just that's the way it right but we buy the book if you have ADHD you buy the book and
68. 15:32tell yourself you're going to read it next week and then you keep working on the marketing plan after you get an idea
69. 15:38or two from the book right isn't this how it works for you too you neros spicy weirdos um and then and then we teach ourselves
70. 15:49Microsoft Word so that we can make the marketing plan things bold and then we make the market and then we show it to someone and they give
71. 15:57us feedback and then keep working on the marketing plan and everything is to the goal of getting to the marketing
72. 16:07plan and in the olden timey days that could take days that could take weeks that could take months because you got to research you
73. 16:15got to do this you got to watch the Gilligan Island rerun Marathon so there's three days gone and then computers came along and
74. 16:28got a little more efficient so instead of weeks or months it was days and weeks and then Along come these AI tools and the initial AI
75. 16:38tools are janky enough that when you look at the output you're like well we certainly need a human in the loop here don't
76. 16:50we those AI they're cute but they're not ready for prime time uh we still need the human in the loop you can make money with cha oh I don't
77. 17:02think so unless there's a human involved no one's making money with cha BT okay and we were kind of smarmy and smug we're like oh these
78. 17:14robots Charming I'm sure Charmed and in the past two or three months the thing that has unsettled me
79. 17:30is that these tools are very quickly reaching a boiling point where the chunky metal is turning into this molten
80. 17:46blob they're getting really good and that that Clarity of human purpose feels less clear to me and then I started thinking about
81. 18:06well if I have an idea to do a marketing plan and I go to AI it's going to give me the marketing plan in five minutes okay I'm going to
82. 18:21do I'm going to do a really intense marketing plan that's going to take me half an hour okay I'm going to do an
83. 18:29intense five-year marketing plan with details that's going to take me an hour right that's the one that would
84. 18:37have been three months before even with computers and knowing how to write marketing plans that's now an
85. 18:47hour so here's what's striking me the the limit the limit that I've spent my whole life doing is thinking that what I need is a
86. 19:00marketing plan no you don't need a marketing plan what comes after a marketing plan I don't know creative
87. 19:07briefs and tactical plans and project plans and marketing copy and concepts for ads and and uh buying list [ __ ] like
88. 19:21everything can create something else like there's there's always something after so where I'm struck right now is
89. 19:35that like why am I stopping at a marketing plan why am I I've got i' okay gpt1 this new the preview right the new
90. 19:49reasoning engine in certain categories it is it is as cap able at problem solving as a PhD
91. 20:04student so you and I right now have a [ __ ] PhD level Problem Solver as our sidekick and we're going like I need to
92. 20:19make a marketing plan well that's kind of a isn't that like asking the PhD student to get you a cup of
93. 20:31coffee I mean he will this is one of the metaphor Michael used tonight right when when you treat these machines with your
94. 20:48limits they will respond in kind I put in limited thinking it gives me limited output so maybe what I don't need is a
95. 21:01marketing plan maybe what I need is hey I've got this business and we ain't sold enough [ __ ] and that's all I
96. 21:12need and then I put it into the cauldron of AI and instead of putting it in one tool why not put it in three or five or
97. 21:2510 and maybe what I actually need is a motivational poster that gets my team fired up but what I thought I needed was a marketing
98. 21:36plan well I never would have got to that motivational poster if all I did was limit myself to the boundaries of the
99. 21:43thing that I want to create this is where I'm all [ __ ] up right now because one of the other themes that
100. 21:51came up tonight um Stacy mentioned this in the in the education Guild Michael at mentioned this is that they are both being really
101. 22:05successful with chat GPT by letting chat GPT Take the Lead essentially how I would describe it and what struck
102. 22:18me is that we as humans we're insecure [ __ ] and we have a lot of hubris and a lot of ego around well my ideas are best and what I will
103. 22:32do is I will give it the ideas and then it will execute them and it can't think as good as me cuz I've got all of this
104. 22:39okay all right look at this you think this just grows on a tree no this is genetics and and a fair amount of
105. 22:46product you know what I'm saying a little bit of foundation some filler I wouldn't admit to Botox and
106. 23:01so when they're being the most successful is when they're removing their ego from the conversation and letting the AI
107. 23:11lead which is [ __ ] weird and it's scary and it's unsettling because we've spent our whole life going I know we
108. 23:19need a marketing plan and here's the we're going to I've got a plan to do a marketing plan and then we're going to
109. 23:24do the marketing plan and then everyone's going to look at the marketing plan we do and we're all going to
110. 23:29ingest it and digest it and regurgitate it and then I'll come up with another plan for another plan like I'm at the center of
111. 23:43that and yet in our hands are PhD level problem solving entities that were saying here's a second-year bachelor degree problem
112. 23:59and the AI is like yeah whatever here you want a shitty little thing here so I don't quite know what to do with this but at least I now have
113. 24:11Clarity that I'm the [ __ ] problem sounds like a plan Kyle but how do you prompt out of your weight class I
114. 24:23so so Brandon I I mean part of what Michael shared tonight was okay so here so let me give you a specific
115. 24:32example Michael wanted to create an image that represented a journey from you know being in the Ocean Lost at Sea
116. 24:42to dipping your toe in the water to being on the beach to going through the forest to climbing up the hill to
117. 24:49getting to the base camp and then to getting to the peak of the mountain and he was trying to create an image and so
118. 24:56he said make an image of person on the peak of the mountain and it didn't capture it and then he wrote some other prompt and
119. 25:06it didn't capture it and then he and then what he said was he well he did research and then the research what he
120. 25:17realized was chat GPT can see it's got vision and so he went to his whiteboard and he and he drew this and he and he
121. 25:27shared this white whiteboard image with us it was a very crude I would argue to say I could draw something nearly as well was a very
122. 25:36crude people on a boat people on a beach people on the forest climbing the hill at the base camp and at the summit and
123. 25:44there were labels and [ __ ] like that hey Siri Siri go away okay what sorry I can't send images for you go away
124. 26:03sorry I'm having trouble hearing you so what he ended up doing was rather than trying to figure it out with his
125. 26:17brain and like what he said was you know I I did get you know part of my degree was in philosophy and logic and things
126. 26:25like that but I was never good with the words and so rather than figuring it out with the words he drew this whiteboard image and he
127. 26:35uploaded that to chat PT and the next image it created was This brilliant representation of what he wanted and so he basically stepped out
128. 26:48of the equation or he basically he basically realized that chat PT is a mirror to the quality of his input and so he let chat GPT help
129. 27:01him he gave it a sketch and he said you write it out how would you prompt you and it prompted it pretty [ __ ]
130. 27:13well and so I think how you prompt yourself out of it is you effectively give up control that you are the master
131. 27:22which I know sounds really [ __ ] up the chances that you are smarter than even chat GPT 4 are pretty
132. 27:37low I mean in certain things you're going to be way smarter right but there's certain things it does it just
133. 27:44does them like that and it does them [ __ ] brilliantly and if you let yourself get out of the way and say okay if I'm
134. 27:54struggling here if this thing isn't giving giving me what I need maybe it can help me figure out what I need right
135. 28:02maybe you're asking the wrong question maybe the question isn't I need a marketing plan maybe the question is what do I need right
136. 28:10now and let chat GPT interrogate you put it
137. 28:33hey Quinn how's it going hey Kyle it's going well thanks how about you I'm good I'm having a bit of an existential crisis and I'm I'm
138. 28:42kind of having an epiphany around my limits as a human being interacting with an entity as smart as you are so I'm
139. 28:48hoping you can help me work through it I'm here for you Kyle what's on your mind well let's navigate okay so if I if
140. 28:58I think historically I need a marketing plan I use tools like computers and pads of paper and my brain and books and and
141. 29:07education to write that marketing plan right make sense absolutely that makes perfect sense you're combining your knowledge
142. 29:16and various resources to create the marketing plan yeah and then AI comes along and the initial AI GPT 3.5 chat
143. 29:27GPT 4 things like that are decent at writing marketing plans right but there's they're not good enough that
144. 29:35they don't need me they don't need the human in the loop I mean they need a human in the loop because they're not all that great
145. 29:43okay got it early AI needed a human touch to really refine and guide the output making the process so now ai is
146. 29:52starting to get better and your your advanced voice technology is an example of something where it starting to get you
147. 29:59know better better so quickly that it's kind of intimidating and one of the things I'm realizing is that even me
148. 30:08asking you for a marketing plan might not be the right thing to ask because I think I need a marketing plan but what I
149. 30:17might need is something way more than that that you'll have Insight on that's a fascinating point with AI
150. 30:25evolving rapidly it's not just about asking for a specific output like a marketing plan anymore it's about
151. 30:32tapping into ai's broader insights and capabilities to uncover opportunities or strategies you might not have considered
152. 30:39it shifts the focus from tools to possibilities yeah and let's say let's say that you've got the capacity of
153. 30:48doing PhD level problem solving and what I'm asking you for is like a secondy year Bachelor student exercise I'm dramatically under
154. 30:59utilizing the power of what you have to offer exactly if you're asking for something basic you might be missing out
155. 31:08on the deeper more complex Solutions AI can provide it's like asking a Grandmaster to play Checkers when they
156. 31:15could be playing 3D chess the real potential lies in exploring those Advanced nuanced capabilities and so I'm having a weird
157. 31:26kind of ego battle with this where I'm like well but you know I you know I'm human and I need to be in the loop and
158. 31:32what I'm realizing is way the way I will get better results is pulling myself out of the loop long enough to let you do
159. 31:41remarkable stuff and then I can curate those answers after that that's where my head is right now but talk to me about
160. 31:49human ego and how we're going to be able to navigate this it's a big shift our ego is tied to our sense of worth often through our
161. 32:01unique skills and knowledge when AI can perform tasks that we once saw as uniquely human it challenges that sense
162. 32:09of worth but here's the thing embracing ai's capabilities doesn't diminish our value instead it shifts our role to that
163. 32:20of a curator strategist and creative director we bring the vision context and ethical consideration while AI handles the heavy lifting it's
164. 32:31a partnership where we need to rethink our role focusing on what makes us uniquely human creativity empathy and
165. 32:40big picture thinking but how do I ask you questions without unconsciously limiting the answer because I'm asking too small a question
166. 32:50like what's the strategy for talking to an entity like okay let's say let's say that my brain is the is the metaphorical equivalent of
167. 33:01an ant's brain and you know you've got a dolphin brain how am I supposed to talk to you that's a great analogy to bre the
168. 33:10Gap think of me as an eager collaborator start by Framing your goals broadly instead of asking for a specific answer share
169. 33:20the then that's what I was actually that that's where I was at the beginning of this conversation right that that
170. 33:30if I'm asking for a specific tactical thing of a PhD level student that's [ __ ] stupid I mean it's not like if I need
171. 33:45the marketing plan I just got to have it in an hour great I'll have it in an hour but if I think that I'm actually
172. 33:51leveraging AI by asking it for a stupid [ __ ] marketing plan when what I really need is to scale my business isn't that [ __ ] weird all
173. 34:04right the daily crunch you got to pull the old if you were me what question would you ask oh yeah that's pretty good yeah
174. 34:15if you were me what yeah what question would you ask yeah that's good but I mean I I think I've got my head around
175. 34:21it now like like I don't it doesn't make me feel any better like I really want to be able to
176. 34:36understand and exploit what generative AI makes possible and I think what's hitting me is that I am quickly coming up against my my
177. 34:50intellectual boundary where where before AI was in here here's my intellectual bound right I can go all the way up to it and I go up to it
178. 35:04hard and for the past year and a half generative AI was you know somewhere it would occasionally poke over the wall
179. 35:12but you know for the most part I'm like ah it's here I'm I'm good I got all this room and I kind of feel like in the past
180. 35:20three months ai's done this right so your intellectual boundary might be over here because you know you're smarty pants and you went to Yale
181. 35:30aren't you special I went to a state school so so I'm back here you might be up here but AI is moving like this like quickly and it's
182. 35:45accelerating and I mean this is Agi right this is the boundary that we're talking about is aggi artificial general intelligence
183. 35:56is the point at which these machines can do what we do as good or better than we do it most of the time and then ASI is
184. 36:07it's just [ __ ] Way Beyond us all the time and the tools aren't even good yet
185. 36:28this is a this is a [ __ ] this AI stuff I mean she kind of said it like
186. 36:42what's the [ __ ] you're good at empathy right you know you're good at empathy strategic thinking curating what she essentially just said
187. 36:52to me is oh aren't you cute you little human a you're so cute I'll tell you what you know you just go over there and have your feels
188. 37:03and then I'll come up with some brilliant [ __ ] and then you know your only job just think big picture just you

198. 38:34right now like for me personally my cognitive wall is here and I feel like AI has passed it so I agree I think I
199. 38:43think they're very good right now and and what I'm realizing and and the talk at the salon tonight reinforced this that that the way I think
200. 38:58the way I have thought for 59 years is starting to limit the value I get out of
201. 39:13AI because I'm thinking too small that's [ __ ] Bonkers it's [ __ ] Bonkers yeah this is going to change the
202. 39:25way we actually think or actually change the way the way we think wait it's going to change oh that we wait change the way

213. 41:25different Walk of Life that is just in just in a different place intellectually um structurally
214. 41:40genetically and and you can occasionally keep up with them but at some point you kind of realize they're kind of toying
215. 41:48with you like a mouse yeah that's interesting Kyle yeah no it's good no it's good that's you put those thoughts
216. 41:55together there that was pretty solid you skitter off to your theatrical friends that that didn't even go to
217. 42:05college you're like I'll feel smart with them it's kind of like that but it's like knowing how much better these tools
218. 42:17are going to get if we're already at the point where I'm sort of hitting my intellectual boundary and the the tools

222. 43:142 uh I like grock 2 I mean grock 2's been out for a while um it's good it's grock one was embarrassingly bad um
223. 43:23grock 2 is quite good and you know the fact that they they added flux to it so that you can make images and they didn't
224. 43:30put any any real guard rails on the image generation is pretty fantastic and disturbing at the same time um you know grock 3 the thing that
225. 43:43they're training on 100,000 gpus right now that's going to be [ __ ] insane as is GPT 5 as is meta 3 or four whatever
226. 43:51the [ __ ] the next meta is and that's that's kind of my point is the reasoning engine that we have right
227. 43:59now 01 preview so one of the things that came out of the dev day today is that apparently the developers
228. 44:07at open AI are embarrassed by how bad 01 preview is and Sam Alman rushed it they they Sam Alman rushed launching 01 into the
229. 44:23marketplace because he wanted to maintain the lead right that that open AI was was the ones were the ones to beat and
230. 44:33so the 01 preview the one that does reasoning the one that while we were on one of these lives over the course of a week it it wrote an
231. 44:45entire screenplay from me from a couple of fragments I had from 20 years ago that one the developers think that it's embarrassingly bad
232. 44:59so what's the good one going to [Laughter] be I don't know what grock is oh I'll show you what grock is so grock is grock
233. 45:12is basically chat GPT within Twitter so you go to x.com you have to pay for it if you're paying your eight
234. 45:26bucks a month for your check mark you have grock
235. 45:45x.com okay so over here on the left hand side there's this little square with the slash through it called grock and it's
236. 45:53basically just chat GPT right so um explain quantum mechanics to me in an &m style
237. 46:07rap wrong Eminem yo listen I'm about to drop some knowledge bombs breaking down quantum mechanics these Rhymes and some qualms
238. 46:22the science of the tiny and the bad bad bad B all right so it does it and and then I can also do things like make me an image
239. 46:33of quantum particles having a wrap
240. 46:50battle that's not hip hoppy enough make it more hip Hoppy but still Quantum [Laughter]
241. 47:06man it was insanely quick explain to me what in that image represents rappers
242. 47:31okay make it more explicit make me an image that has those elements more explicitly represented but don't lose the quantum dang
243. 47:42it but by the way I love talking to these things like they're idiots but I can't do that for much longer oh that's just too literal all
244. 47:52right so it didn't do great at that but what's cool about um what's cool about the fact that this is not um it doesn't
