13. 2:04um let's see. Oh, AI salon. So we've been around for four years. We we started the week chat GPT came out.
14. 2:16So, we're coming up on our fourth year anniversary. December 8th, in fact, so the week after Chat GPT came out is when
15. 2:23we had our first meeting. And the salon has has you know, it started as kind of a small intimate community about people trying
16. 2:32to learn AI tools and it has blossomed and grown and it's now kind of like, think of it like a big city with all
17. 2:40these little neighborhoods and all these different personalities. Hey Lori, what's happening Silver Fox? Charles Adams, good to see you. And
18. 2:48all those little neighborhoods are like almost like, you know, communities in and of themselves. Just like New York
19. 2:54City. You think about New York City as this big uh this big entity, but there's all these little neighborhoods, right?
20. 3:01There's the Upper East Side, the Upper West Side, there's Chelsea, there's Soho, Little Italy, Chinatown, you know,
21. 3:08Brooklyn, you know, Williamsburg. There's all these little neighborhoods and they each have their own
22. 3:13personalities. That's very much what the AI salon's like. So, if if you want to just like hang out and be in the
23. 3:19conversation around AI or whatever's going on in people's lives, that's kind of what this channel is. It's like your
24. 3:25the dingy neighborhood bar where people hang out. They're talking about AI way too late in the evening. Uh if if you
25. 3:33want something like have a good business conversation, we've got office hours, which happens on Friday. We've got the
26. 3:39the business guild which has has a monthly or the business uh the business club I think it's called now. Um that
27. 3:46has a a monthly meeting. We've got Brandon and Claire's uh life hacks where if you want to go just figure out how
28. 3:52can how can this benefit my life, we've got that. So there's all that. If if you're if you're into advocacy and
29. 3:58politics and you give a [ __ ] about all these issues going on and want to talk about that. We have a whole area of the
30. 4:03salon, a whole set of activities in the salon that are all around advocacy and politics. So, get to know the
31. 4:11neighborhoods, get to understand that the the uh that this community is is diverse and interesting and there's all
32. 4:17sorts of cool stuff going on. So, Brooklyn, baby. Yeah. East Village. East Village. East Village is where it's at.
33. 4:25And you know what's interesting about neighborhoods in a city like that? The people that love the East Village love
34. 4:31the East Village. And the people that do not love the East Village are like, "Who the hell are these people? What is this place?"
35. 4:39And I think about that like this. This is called the AI Learning Lab, right? And so if you look at that label, you
36. 4:45might think, well, this is going to be like a university and I'll come in here and there's going to be checklists and
37. 4:49curricula and, you know, I'm going to learn very specific things. And you come in and I'm like me me and you know all
38. 4:58the irregulars are making inside jokes. This isn't a university. This is your neighborhood bar, right? And so so
39. 5:05that's going to attract a certain kind of people and it's going to repel a certain kind of people and that's okay.
40. 5:10And so part of what we're doing is we're looking into moving into our fifth year is really understanding what are these
41. 5:17neighborhoods and you know who are the people that lead them, who are the people that are attracted to them and
42. 5:22how do we in the best way possible get people to the right neighborhood. And so that's something that I'm really
43. 5:30excited about. So that's something that we're working on. It is Friday night date night. Um, one of the things we
44. 5:36talk about uh in the AI salon is what we call the cycle of AI readiness. Play first, create excellence, generously lead.
45. 5:45And generous leadership um is is about not being stingy with what you're learning and not being stingy with sharing
46. 5:59what you're learning and not being stingy with asking other people for help. Right? Sometimes you think like,
47. 6:06"Oh, I've got to learn all this stuff and then now I'm going to be an expert and I'm I I'm the expert."
48. 6:12And so you may perceive that asking a question is a sign of weakness in a in a room full of people that know what's
49. 6:20going on. It's actually the opposite. It's a sign of leadership. Being able to ask a question provides the opportunity
50. 6:29for someone else in the community to lead. Right? So if you know the answer to something or if you made something
51. 6:37you're really proud of, you can share that with the world. Um, in fact, let me let me share my screen here. We'll pop over to the AI salon.

120. 20:46sheet and their animation and the song was a remaster of a song I wrote in 1987. Um, and changed the lyrics, updated the
121. 20:57lyrics, added a verse, made that. So, that's cool. All right. So, I applied for the midjourney MCP. So, here's the
122. 21:08the question that Brandon asked. What is an MCP? So, so MCP stands for model context protocol and it's essentially it it's a similar
123. 21:20kind of thing as an API. If you know what a programming API is, it stands for application programming interface and it allows
124. 21:31an application that I'm working on to use features from some other application. So if I'm working on an a mobile app and I want to add a map
125. 21:40feature, I could create my own mapping service or I could use the Google Maps API and just put their map inside my
126. 21:49app. And so that's an API. MCP stands for model context protocol. And what this does is allows you to take
127. 21:57a website, a service like Midjourney, and if they make their MCP available to access their features, then you can
128. 22:06basically use it as a plug-in for any large language model that supports the MCP protocol, the model context
129. 22:15protocol. So the the large language model model context you're going to connect midjourney into that model and
130. 22:23it's a protocol so it's the same across all different services. So it always works the same. And basically what
131. 22:30happens is if I have the midjourney MCP connected into my chat GPT or my Claude, I can just say, "Hey, go make an image
132. 22:39of X Y or Z and use this style number or whatever it might be." And it'll just go make images. And if you combine that with agents
133. 22:50where you can say to the agent, hey, I want you to go make me a thousand images that are all variations on this theme.
134. 22:56Um, it can just use the model context protocol to go make a bunch of images on your MidJourney account, bring them back
135. 23:02into ChatGpt. So, that's what that's about. Um, yeah, cool. Let me go look at some news items that Brandon popped in

147. 26:19high resolution imaging in whatever that took, 60 seconds or something like that. And they're going to build these into
148. 26:25spa settings. I think the first spa is going to happen in San Francisco. So interesting. I don't know. I wonder what the time is. [music]

172. 31:19those calls has been slow, pricey, and a little unpredictable. Meet Jev. You already know one kind of AI, the
173. 31:28large language model like Chad GPT or Claude. It's a brilliant writer. It thinks out loud, one word at a time. Ask it a
174. 31:37simple yes or no question and it still has to write its way to the answer. Then your software has to dig through
175. 31:44that answer and hope it came back in the right shape. Jev is different. It was released in September 2026 by a San Francisco lab
176. 31:53called Typesafe AI. Jev doesn't write at all. It decides. You hand it a situation and your questions and it hands back clean
177. 32:03answers your software can act on instantly. The idea comes from psychology. Daniel Conman described two modes of thinking.
178. 32:13System two is slow and deliberate like working through a hard problem step by step. System one is the instant gut call like
179. 32:21reading the mood on someone's face. LLMs are system two machines. Type safe calls Jev a system one model.
180. 32:30Every Jev request has two parts. The state which is whatever information you already have and a list of question.

186. 33:20think of a large language model as h let me ponder that and a system one Jev does is just make instant decisions now it's
187. 33:29not as easy as chat GBT you can't just like like with chat GBT that that interface all you have to do is talk to
188. 33:36it with Jev what you actually have to do is you have to say okay I've got a a set of data and maybe that set of data is I
189. 33:44want to look at a bunch of papers and I want to say did these papers match uh the criteria and I don't know what the
190. 33:52criteria are but whatever you say here are a bunch of papers here's what it looks like when they match the criteria
191. 33:59here's what it's look looks like when they don't match the criteria and then you give it 10,000 papers and it just
192. 34:05instantly goes through and goes [laughter] and just you know matches doesn't match matches doesn't match it's
193. 34:12not making any comments commentary at all. It's just once you set up the the structure um for what decision needs to
194. 34:19be made, then it just goes off and does it. So, it's incredibly powerful, but it's a bit nerdy. What what I think's going to happen is
195. 34:29hopefully some people in the AI salon, but people across, you know, you know, across the the the world out there are
196. 34:35going to take this capability and they're going to build software around it and they'll make it really easy to
197. 34:40just drag and drop, you know, drag and drop pictures of your pet and it will tell you if it's happy or sad or, you know, longing for cheese.
198. 34:55So anyway, that's J. Yeah, I haven't seen where are the matchup games. Let's see. Maybe we can
199. 35:10go look look for those mashup games. So, one of the things going on, Brent Peterson talked about this today in office hours, which by the
200. 35:20way, if you didn't go to office hours today, you really should go to that meeting. So, every Friday at 11:00 a.m.
201. 35:26Mountain time, so 1 p.m. Eastern, I host a thing called office hours, AI salon office hours, um, in the AI salon,
202. 35:37and you can I I promote it on LinkedIn because it's kind of a business kind of thing. that community, that group that
203. 35:43shows up for that, if you're trying to figure out this AI stuff, you should be in that. The the conversations in there
204. 35:48are really fun. They're really good. My Jev trial was 20 examples and it cost 0.007 of a of a cent. Yeah, that's the
205. 35:57other thing about Jev. It's really fast and it's really cheap. Really cheap. Um, okay. So, one of the things going on,
206. 36:07one of the things that Brent Peterson was talking about, I teed up the conversation today talking about the 722 math problems that OpenAI
207. 36:17dropped on on the evening of October 6th. And what Brent said is cuz cuz I I said that I think that that drop is like the first
208. 36:31day of the singularity. Like that many problems being solved that quickly are the singularity. And what what Brent
209. 36:38said today is there are two other things going on in his world that he feels are also evidence that we're starting on
210. 36:47this upward ramp of this parabolic improvement curve where it's just unprecedented growth. Like we've like
211. 36:54humans have never experienced what we're about to experience. And so one of them is this you know solving problems on
212. 37:02mass not a problem here or there. Um, one of the one of the most remarkable statistics about the the Chat GBT math
213. 37:10drop is that the average time spent to solve those incredibly hard math problems was 3 hours of a single agent
214. 37:19in in pro mode. So, so sort of high-end pro mode of of a model that's not been released yet, but three hours to solve,
215. 37:28you know, unsolved math problems. That's remarkable. and they just kind of all dropped in a in a chunk. What Brent Peterson talked about was
216. 37:39one of the other things happening right now is that that models have gotten so strong that they can decompile compiled games.
217. 37:54So, so one of the things that has has historically been true is that once you program a game and you compile it, you
218. 38:03compile it into machine code, it is effectively impossible to, you know, to decompile that without, you know, I
219. 38:10don't know, tremendous amounts of expense. Um, it's now kind of trivial to be able to decompile a game. Um, and so
220. 38:19that was one thing he said. And so what's happening is people are um mashing up different genres of game. Uh,
221. 38:26so, so there's all sorts of modding going on and there's, um, like one of the decompiling projects was to take all
222. 38:33of the PS5 games where Sony said you can no longer you can't play Sony video games on any anything other than, you
223. 38:42know, your PS5 because of, you know, um, encryption and and DCA kind of stuff. And people are basically now just
224. 38:52decompiling those games and then recompiling them for the ability to play them on a PC. They're also mashing games
225. 38:59together. Um, so let's let's watch this video here. [music] [music]

233. 41:08All right. So, that's going. The other thing that Brent Peterson talked about today was um in his lab. So, so Brent

269. 47:24Um, the, uh, this Tik Tok view is the backstage view. So, um, this is you can have chats and things in there, but the
270. 47:33um, the actual activity is happening over in the AI salon. And you're like, what's the AI salon? The AI Salon is a
271. 47:38community of about uh 4,200 people that are exploring AI, try to trying to figure this thing out. We're we're not
272. 47:46necessarily engineers making the technology. We're like human beings trying to figure out how can we use AI
273. 47:53to amplify who we are and what we're about. And the AI salon, you can think of it kind of like it's like a big
274. 48:00sprawling city that's got all these different neighborhoods in it. And the AI learning lab is kind of like the
275. 48:05neighborhood bar, right? I'm the bartender. Um, people come and hang out. They've been, some of them have been
276. 48:10hanging out since we opened. Um, there are people here tonight, we call them the irregulars, that are just, they are
277. 48:17regularly here. Um, that name came from one night I said, "You're all a bunch of [ __ ] weirdos." And, uh, Serena said,
278. 48:26"May she rest in peace, said, "We're not weird, we're irregular." and that uh you know put a stamp on their name so they
279. 48:34they're forever known as the irregulars and and they're just people that show up every night and the whole idea of the AI
280. 48:40learning lab um is just to be a space we can hang out and be in the conversation about AI and we can talk about what's
281. 48:47good about it, what's bad about it. I'll demo things. Right now I'm demoing how to make uh an animated pet which you can
282. 48:54then turn into a G uh a chat GBT dot which is an agent. It's an agent that can do all sorts of things for you on
283. 49:02its own without you having to to manage it, things like that. So, if you want to come see what I'm up to over there, uh,

315. 54:40if you're new to this AI stuff, time was long time ago in my day, long, long time ago, like two and a half, three years ago,
316. 54:54if you wanted to do stuff like we're doing right here, it it was kind of on you to understand all the peace parts and understand what to do
317. 55:05because of these these agentic um tools like dots and um Meta's got one called Muse and Gro has one called Grockbot.
318. 55:18Then there was OpenClaw was kind of the first of these to come out. Um they go off and do the work for you. So
319. 55:30you don't really have to prompt anymore. You you can just kind of tell it, I want to create an app that does X. I want to
320. 55:36create an animation for my dude that does X. Um, let's see. Streamyard pin. He needs a pink bow. That's really fun.
321. 55:45That would be good. I use Gemini mainly as we are Google at work. Um, and I get the best limits on free the free tier that I've used. Um,
322. 55:57Gemini is really good. Gemini's got nano banana for image generation. Gemini is multimodal. um they don't quite seem to be keeping up
323. 56:10with the frontier, but the models are so strong now that even kind of the second tier models are still really strong. So,
324. 56:18one thing that these agents are good at is going off and doing autonomous work, but the underlying models are getting
325. 56:25really good at doing work over time. like it'll just think about something for 15, 20 minutes, you know, two hours,
326. 56:32six hours. If you give it something where it's really got to process through a lot of steps, it can just do that now
327. 56:38without you having to intervene. Um, so that's kind of a a remarkable thing. Let's see what's happening here. Okay,

337. 58:35limit. Yeah, I know. Like all of them are. Here's the other thing. If you don't know this, um, either if you're new to AI or if you've
338. 58:46just been paying your 20 bucks a month and you don't really use it a lot, one of the things that starts to happen when
339. 58:51you use these agentic tools that can just go off and do work is that you can burn through your credits incredibly
340. 58:58quickly. And and when you say burn through your credits, what's that mean? Basically, your 20 bucks buys you a
341. 59:04certain amount of compute to be able to do all the magic [ __ ] it can do. We are exiting a world where that compute was highly subsidized.
342. 59:19Like like over the summer, one of the one of the numbers that I heard was that for every $20 a week subscription, it
343. 59:26was costing OpenAI about $14,000 in compute cost. Um Sam Alman early on in chat GPT said that the the costs were eyewatering.
344. 59:38um we are exiting that phase. So they're starting to do things like rate limits and every five hours you only get a
345. 59:45certain amount of compute and they're they're trying to optimize their models and things like that. But over the next
346. 59:50two years, two things well three things will happen. One is good models will will you know get smaller because this is just what's been
347. 1:00:01happening. It's been like a 10x decrease in cost and a 10x increase in performance every year or something like
348. 1:00:07that or every I don't know every six months. Now it's probably down to every 3 months. So the the the models are going to keep
349. 1:00:14getting stronger. They're going to keep getting cheaper. Um that's one of the things. Um I lost my train of thought.
350. 1:00:21The other thing that's going to happen is uh models models models. Oh. Um, very powerful models are going to get small
351. 1:00:31enough that you can run them on desktop computers. So, desktop computers are going to get more powerful. Apple is
352. 1:00:37about to make an absolute [ __ ] fortune. Um, because people are going to be buying Mac computers that can run, you
353. 1:00:46know, powerful models. So, some of the inference will will get local, but any inference you're doing in the cloud as
354. 1:00:53demand goes up, right? Right now, we live in a country in America where 2.2% of American households pay for AI. 2.2%. That means 97.8%
355. 1:01:10of households do not pay for AI. When that adoption starts to go up, demand for compute is going to go up and it's going to go up fast and
356. 1:01:22dramatically. And it's going to get expensive. And so if you're not running local compute and if you haven't
357. 1:01:27invested in hardware to run local models um this this is going to get worse and worse. Um yeah by the way if you are looking

362. 1:02:22into chat GBT this week, it looks like they haven't added it in into the app yet, is um there's a thing called
363. 1:02:30steering where when you give a comment while the thing is thinking, you can have it add that comment into the
364. 1:02:38thinking. It's called steering the conversation. And so, uh I just steered the conversation to make sure that he
365. 1:02:45plays the guitar at some point. It's one of the rules you learn in theater is you never put a gun on stage unless it's going to be used.
366. 1:02:58So if you're ever at a play, someone shows you the gun, something's coming with the gun. [laughter] Why Apple Macs and not Windows
367. 1:03:10computers? So somewhere in the AI salon cla, >> by the way, Kyle, are are you trying to get us banned from Tik Tok?
368. 1:03:18Oh, with the gun thing. Yeah, whatever. You can't say gun. You can't say kill. Um, [clears throat] so I did an infographic. It's in the AI
369. 1:03:33salon on um running local AI. And that infographic explains the Mac PC thing. Hang on. I stupidly put licorice in my mouth. Let
370. 1:03:48me shoot you. Hold, please. Okay, Max. There's a couple of things about Max. They're incredibly small.
371. 1:04:03Um, they're fanless or the fans are really, really quiet. You can just run them 24/7. Um, they don't need a a screen
372. 1:04:12connected to them. you can, you know, basically tunnel into them with software. Um, you can do that with a PC, too.
373. 1:04:18But Macs have what's called unified memory. So, like a 128 gigabyte Mac, you know, it has to use that RAM to run
374. 1:04:30everything, but you can also use that RAM that like the GPUs can use that RAM. So, if you want to do AI inference, it
375. 1:04:39it can tap into that RAM. On a PC, those two things are separate. You've got your GPU, so you might have 16 gigs of RAM in
376. 1:04:47the GPU, but then you only have a graphics card that's got a four or eight gigabytes of VRAM where the inference
377. 1:04:54happens. Um, so you need to get increasingly more expensive graphics cards on a PC and the AI can't use the
378. 1:05:04the CPU RAM. Um, so so that split is there. Um, on the Mac it's it's just however much RAM you have, everything
379. 1:05:14can access it. And so you just need to be careful about the operating system, how much that takes and and what's left
380. 1:05:20left over. It's called um uh headroom. Um so so if you've got a local uh AI model that's 64 gigabytes for example
381. 1:05:34and the operating system is taking 32 GB. So now you have 32 gigabytes left out of that 128 gigabyte uh memory.
382. 1:05:46You have 32 gigabytes of headroom and that's your context window. That's that's how much you know you can talk to
383. 1:05:56your AI. So so understanding that if you're going to run things locally, understanding how memory works and the
384. 1:06:03difference between a PC and a you want max headroom. You do want max headroom. You actually do [laughter]
