86. 18:53whether they run a business or they're individuals good because what what became crystal clear to me
87. 19:00tonight at the salon when I went through it took me um 40 minutes to literally just read through the list of all the [ __ ] that's been
88. 19:11launched in the past two weeks 40 minutes I I just I I feel really bad for people and
89. 19:27businesses that think they have time I don't think we have time I think 2024 was the year to breathe and I think
90. 19:36we're about to [ __ ] just [ __ ] latch onto this thing and off it goes I would not want to be on the
91. 19:43sidelines right now and if you're in the sidelines six months from now or a year from now you're a [ __ ] [Music]

98. 21:19GPT Sam Alman said he's purposefully Slow Rolling letting chat GP out he wanted it to be baby steps so
99. 21:35that you didn't just sort of flop this on Humanity he said he wanted people to to have time to get used to
100. 21:44it and like for the first year that really pissed me off because I'm like yeah whatever Sam I can handle it I'm a smart guy I learned
101. 21:55basic programming in seventh grade once you know I had the hubris of a man and an American I had the hubris of an American [Laughter]

103. 22:23along and I was still excited I was still like give us the good stuff give us the good stuff and then open AI started slowing
104. 22:34down and not launching stuff that pissed me off because I'm like I got a channel we got to talk about the new stuff
105. 22:41where's the new stuff gotta have the new stuff and there weren't no new stuff but all the competitors started catching
106. 22:49up and they were getting good and better and better and better and more and more and more but but they were all at the same level
107. 22:59and there was kind of a a dip in Adrenaline and a dip in interest in a lot of ways because it's like well I kind of figure I
108. 23:10already know how to use chat gp4 and these are almost as good as chat gp4 so right and somewhere in there Claude got really
109. 23:19good and somewhere in there the video tools we didn't get SORA but we got all these Chinese video tools and all these
110. 23:25American video tools they're all pretty [ __ ] good but they're all still janky they're all still at that whatever the simmering level was
111. 23:38right and then 01 preview came out they dropped 01 preview and it was kind of a quiet launch they said oh here's this
112. 23:45thing it's this reasoning engine there was lots of anticipation they're like well that we've got a cooler version of
113. 23:52this but we're going to give you the shitty version and it's not really multimodal but it's G to be but it's
114. 23:57not but it's kind of a different thing so you should go play with it and it Reasons I'm like oh yeah good we got the
115. 24:06reasoning engine now this good gonna reason finally the stuff the good stuff and one night on my live here I I
116. 24:17I said I don't know what to do with a reasoning engine but I'll give it a an incomplete screenplay and some scenes I
117. 24:24wrote and maybe you can help me finish a screenplay and it did it wrote a really good um wrote a really good
118. 24:35outline and then I asked it to just write an arbitrary scene and match the tone of the other scenes I had written and it was [ __ ]
119. 24:45good for two years a large language model has never in my experience been able to write convincing dialogue for a screenplay or
120. 24:58or a convincing scene of a screenplay it just it would either truncate it or make it just really trite or the dialogue was just
121. 25:07shitty and all of a sudden this thing wrote a great scene from an outline that it wrote inspired by mine and then what hit me
122. 25:25was even in its hobbled shitty ass non- multimodal form it had exceeded my ability to know what the
123. 25:41[ __ ] to do with [Laughter] it and there's something kind of existential about that there's something kind of like well
124. 25:54[ __ ] like in theory you have this super smart thing but in reality it was like yeah but what do I do with it I feel like I need to
125. 26:06get a degree to figure out a problem to solve that's big enough for this thing to and that's in its shitty
126. 26:14form so last week we were handed the real version of it here you go here's 01 go go get it it's the real thing oh and

141. 29:11now if I wanted to solve cement rot it would be a fair amount of work for me to like go to chat GPT and go what's cement
142. 29:18rot and what's already been tried and like like I have to like I have to construct a framework for even what
143. 29:28problem I'm trying to solve and then go to something like 01 to try to solve it maybe with agents we can just go hey
144. 29:37the local paper said there's this thing called cement rod at the reservoir and the water's going to kill us all if we
145. 29:44don't fix it but they don't know how to fix it bab could you just go fix it and then the little agents all spin up and go got you
146. 29:53boss like that's the fantasy but I don't think that fantasyy is going to be a reality for like three
147. 30:01years so what do we do in the next three years do we all just feel like a pile of dumb Dums like uh hey Jane Jane H what do I do with the AI
148. 30:14again a a what solve PhD level problems what uh what what kind of problem is that

170. 35:19emails and it takes us forever to write those emails what if we could just automate that oh we can do that okay put
171. 35:25it together now we're automating emails ah it's really fantastic and then it lulls you into a safe sense of security
172. 35:32that what AI really is is is an efficiency play no no no that's what computers are that's what computers have been
173. 35:47since the 50s they're efficiency amplifiers you take the work you do now and you figure out a way to do it faster
174. 35:55right that's what the man wanted when they made the factories they said make the cars faster we'll turn it into an assembly line make it
175. 36:06faster we'll take this room full of accountants writing in ledgers and we'll invent giant computers that'll do that work and we'll get rid
176. 36:16of all them and do that faster but it's the same [ __ ] just faster that ain't what AI is the g in G PT is
177. 36:32significant because the first for the first time in our lives computers are not just about making what we currently do
178. 36:42faster they're about generating content generating ideas generating Solutions that's supposed to be our job so now we have a thing that
179. 36:55generates and the early [ __ ] was so bad that we could like watch it generate and go well we can do better than that it
180. 37:04hallucinates it's shitty it can't do math it doesn't know how many RS are in the word strawberry stupid robot we had all this [Music]
181. 37:17hubris but what AI really does is it says Hey what if all of those tasks that you do what if you didn't have to do those what
182. 37:30if we just do those and what if you could take what we do and invent whole new ways of working whole new ways of
183. 37:40doing business whole new ways of expressing yourself whole new ways of even understanding what you personally can generate is possible
184. 37:55what I've got to re imagine the future of work huh so businesses are like well if if it if the AI did all the [ __ ]
185. 38:11that we do then what would we do hey you know what we're gonna do let's just park it for another quarter let's just see if
186. 38:18this AI thing plays out then another quarter goes by and it becomes even more apparent that you're gonna have to [ __ ] reinvent your

188. 38:41another quarter kick the holy [ __ ] why do we have all these competitors how can they do that so fast wait they what they took our biggest

197. 40:49I've learned in my in my 59 years the moment that we're in right now where you get to be you we me get to
198. 41:07be at the beginning at the birth of technology so profound it's going to change everything that doesn't happen very often in the history of
199. 41:22mankind I've had three opportunities in my life one I just Miss which was the personal computer in the late 70s when I
200. 41:32discovered that I realized oh the personal computer that's like the new printing press but I was too young to be there at
201. 41:39the beginning and that always pissed me off because I knew I in my life time I probably wouldn't see another one of
202. 41:46those and in then in the mid 90s the worldwide web came along and I stumbled upon that piece of magic math magical and I thought
203. 41:57I think this is one of those I'm the luckiest man on Earth and I [ __ ] went all in because if you're lucky enough to to
204. 42:09notice that this thing showed up in the world that's going to change everything [ __ ] get on the train right like why would you not
205. 42:27and why not is because people are like well that's not really the future it's probably shitty nobody's got connection
206. 42:32to the internet I this HTML thing what is a web page what's a hyperlink nobody cares but if you actually sort of think about what it
207. 42:44did you click on a hyperlink and I instantly transport from a server here in New York to a server there in California to a server there in
208. 42:59Paris well you just collapsed distance and you just collapsed time that's [ __ ] profound right same thing
209. 43:16here you recognize that there is a technology that in this case doesn't just collapse time it actually makes
210. 43:26computers behave differently than they've ever behaved before in the history of mankind they're not just
211. 43:32efficiency engines they are generative tools that can augment and amplify our Humanity what I excuse me what they can do
212. 43:45what why would I not be in the middle of that oh my God HTML was a wormhole first thank you for the extraordinarily great
213. 43:54work on the lab my question is why you going out of your way to educate us about AI what are you trying to achieve
214. 44:01are you almost there I'm not even close [Music] um well there's a couple of reasons when
215. 44:17when I got into web development in the mid90s I started a group called the worldwide web artist Consortium and it was
216. 44:29basically any anyone in New York City that was doing anything in web development was part of that group it was it was it was amazingly
217. 44:40powerful um and so part of its what I learned doing that is this this is another thing and I I think the meeting tonight uh um
218. 44:54validated this that in in the early days of the worldwide web you got to
219. 45:10understand nobody knew anything people didn't know what web servers were people didn't know what HTML was people didn't know what a web
220. 45:20browser was they didn't know what rendering HTML in a browser meant the center tag didn't apply to images what you couldn't Center an image
221. 45:35in early HTML you had to physically move it over by stacking little invisible images in front of it so in the early days the only people
222. 45:49that can possibly participate are Geeks and Hyper curious people and and you can only learn so much and so by getting into a
223. 46:02community you can literally go what did you learn this week uh you could stack images to slide an image over oh that's
224. 46:11cool okay note to self make slide the thing right if you put a nested tag if you put an HTML tag inside an HTML tag it's
225. 46:22nested and it seems to work oh right everything's a [ __ ] Revelation well that's where that's it that's literally what this community
226. 46:35is well I went to Mid journey and instead of typing a big long prompt I typed in one word freedom and it came out with this what that's
227. 46:55cool so for for me it's to be in the presence to be surrounded by people who are curious adventurous generous brave enough to go [ __ ] it
228. 47:07let's go figure this thing out so like what I get out of it is I get to be in the community of people that are up to
229. 47:19something because the last the last place I want to be with any of this [ __ ] sh is watching from the from the
230. 47:29sidelines and I just had an instinct this this this is going to move fast and and this past two weeks has has really solidified that [Music]

234. 48:30even been called advanced math but it wasn't because I was mathematically talented it was just like it sounded
235. 48:39cooler and I walked into the the classroom on the first day of seventh grade and there was a Radio Shack trs8
236. 48:46on on every desk and over the next two weeks I learned enough basic programming to like make [ __ ] I made an animation of a Rocket taking
237. 49:01off my very first project we learned one basic command and I turned that into a Rocket taking off we learned the lprint
238. 49:11command where you can take a string of text and print it to screen and then you could do that one after the other so we
239. 49:17made a whole computer program that was nothing but L print commands with asky strings and we drew a Saturn rocket that
240. 49:25started at the bottom of the screen and went up and then made smoke and I realized in that moment that these these things that looked like
241. 49:35typewriters with screens could could be a form of self-expression and were amaz amazingly gratifying and we're going to
242. 49:43change everything about like how people made documents and how people did stuff and then I I remember going to the
243. 49:52like the York mall in York Pennsylvania and going to like the magazine store and seeing Steve Jobs and Bill Gates on the covers of
244. 50:02magazines and just feeling like really sad like I wasn't there like I wasn't in paloalto I wasn't they were they were

266. 54:36started the AI Salon we had our first meeting December 7th 2022 I started this Tik Tok Channel and I was sitting with my wife
267. 54:47watching TV she you know I had lost the battle of what we were going to watch so of course it was some English costume
268. 54:53drama you know you know the the death Nell of relationships yeah honey I know it's interesting I know yeah she's absolutely
269. 55:04be yep no he's handsome too right that sort of thing so I'm sitting there with my computer playing with chat GPT and I
270. 55:14remember someone on Twitter or wherever said chat GPT is good at coding and I thought oh cool like I've always like
271. 55:21I've always admired code I love like product development I love coming up with software ideas I understand how programming works I'm
272. 55:31just not good at it but I but I know how it works and I know I know like if you can stitch this thing together with that
273. 55:41thing then cool but in order to do that you got to understand apis and and code and brackets and syntax that's [ __ ]
274. 55:49exhausting so I said hey chat GPT write me some python code that takes input from a user and process is
275. 55:57it like it was it's a horrible prompt and out came some python code and I was like holy [ __ ] that's cool and then I had this moment of
276. 56:12panic I had this moment of like and the moment of panic was I'm the founder and CEO of a technology company of a of an automated
277. 56:29patented video storytelling platform and the Panic that set in when I saw that code was I don't know how to run python
278. 56:42code which is humiliating you can't admit that and own a tech company and historically what you would
279. 56:52have to do at that moment is one of two things you would have to call up a friend of yours if you had any that does know
280. 57:02about code and you'd have to go uh Steve uh how do you run python code Mr big shot CEO doesn't know how to
281. 57:11run Python and you have to deal with that or you have to go to [ __ ] Google how do you run python code and
282. 57:19then there's like 47 [ __ ] sites and 23 of them are sales funnels for some programming course they're trying to sell you and
283. 57:29you just want the [ __ ] answer right just how do I run it just tell me someone tell me so that's normally the
284. 57:37point at which I would get discouraged and leave a project um so so what ended up happening was I said to chat GPT I don't know how to run
285. 57:53python code no problem here's open up the terminal run this command line run that oh cool I don't want to run command line in
286. 58:03terminal that sounds like work can I just run this in a website oh sure here's five so I literally just clicked
287. 58:10on the first website which was repet and it said copy and paste this code into repet and hit the play button
288. 58:18I was like oh this is easy copy paste Play error [ __ ] I said it gave me an ER error and I copied and pasted the error and put it
289. 58:28in chat GPT it said oh you don't have this Library installed I was like okay how do you install the library not a problem in the
290. 58:38lower leftand corner you click on this button and then in the upper right hand corner you search for that Library name and then you hit
291. 58:45install wait it knows that click h Huh run boom it ran holy [ __ ] I've got a functional piece of python code here within 90 minutes I had
292. 59:01written a fully functional python application that was making API calls to open AI taking user input and generating
293. 59:10five pieces of social media content within 90 minutes I've never written a line of python in my life that's the
294. 59:21moment that I knew the world had just changed but nobody knew it yet right this isn't copying and pasting
295. 59:33code from someone else's code base this is writing code it's generating G the G and GPT I don't have to learn to code this
296. 59:46thing can code for me now is the code any good back then it wasn't if you ask Pate it's still not good is that always going to be the case
297. 59:58nope it's gotten way better in the past two years in the next two years the next three years it's going to be essentially
