22. 6:28of a lot of people trying to figure out just where does this AI [ __ ] fit in their lives cuz it's not quite ready for prime
23. 6:41time there's a lot changing there's now a lot of options for all of the different tools right like if you want a
24. 6:50large language model there's a bunch of free ones that are pretty much as good as chat gp4 if you want image generation models
25. 6:57there's a bunch of good ones there um there's a bunch of new open- source stuff Source Camp office hours was so
26. 7:06good today yeah we C we came up with some really fun ideas really fun ideas about we're we're at an interesting
27. 7:18stage I well and this could just me be me projecting on the world I'm at an interesting stage I'd love you hear your
28. 7:25thoughts on how AI might fit into the eye industry and network industry um well so so in a lot of ways you know Network
29. 7:39and it becomes more critical than ever right because and I I also saw a really interesting thing that was um that that data centers
30. 8:00data centers are not located where the energy is they're located close to where the people are for Speed of distance they can't be
31. 8:11far away so so or something like that but with training large language models it's not synchronous you don't need to
32. 8:21do it in real time but you need massive amounts of energy so you could say find an area like a big desert that's full of
33. 8:31sun and just you know Park a bunch of you know massive solar arrays and have massive data centers that are training
34. 8:39sets because they don't need to be you know proximity to cities I thought that was really interesting today so so I
35. 8:46think I think networking and it and security um are going to be really critical so I don't think that goes away that said I
36. 8:58think the management of those networks is going to shift dramatically I think the software development world for how
37. 9:06you manage those networks is going to shift dramatically you know where the bulk of the work that gets done in those
38. 9:15networks is going to change dramatically so yeah so I don't know so anyway so so I think I think networks you know go up
39. 9:23in importance compute is kind of the gold of the future so um you're going to have to have your [ __ ] together with
40. 9:30with your with your data centers um where where I've been going is most of the tools that that I use
41. 9:45most of the time which is you know it's mostly like image and word tools you know I do some animation I do some music
42. 9:54but that those are not like what I do the core of I work on there are at least three probably more like five viable Alternatives of
43. 10:07tools and so it Almost Doesn't Matter What tool you use anymore like it felt like it was a bigger deal or you using
44. 10:14GPT 4 cuz that's the big good one now doesn't feel like that's as critical anymore and there's a bunch of free
45. 10:20options now what feels increasingly important is like what are you doing with them what are you producing with
46. 10:28them Jim Jim Ross today on on office hours was like well I'm mostly producing content you know for marketing and I'm
47. 10:37in a similar place where I'm mostly using it for [ __ ] that I did before right like I need to make I need to
48. 10:45respond to an email I need to right that's all it's all [ __ ] we did before and now we're using AI to do that more
49. 10:51efficiently which is fine it's good but I just have this aching feeling there's something more like we're build
50. 10:59we build these gpts and we put them out in the world and no one uses them well are we using them how are we using
51. 11:07them I made a virtual twin of myself in this project with a bunch of other people we've all got these digital twins
52. 11:16some of us are using them some aren't I helped build the [ __ ] things and I'm not really using them why not
53. 11:24what could we be using them for how are they different how is interacting with a virtual version of me different than
54. 11:30interacting with me like I should understand how to do that I I should understand what can this thing do that I
55. 11:35wouldn't have thought of before so the the office hours talk today was just a lot of talk about like how do we find
56. 11:43work what is the work how can we use these tools in ways that are new and novel and interesting not just
57. 11:50efficiency tools from the things we did before Silver Fox I think gpts were a good stepping stone about prompt writing
58. 11:57and results thereof yep oops sorry I'm late it's okay Daniel we forgive you it's very cute though listen to

62. 12:41someone who says I read a book and then you're like oh how was it like great I listen to it at the gym while I'm doing Burpee

73. 14:34time but whole books just just doesn't do it does AI read actually that's really interesting
74. 14:48huh I think in a lot of ways AI does read right so if you read a book your brain is encoding you know you take actually this is kind of
75. 14:58interesting brand oh wait but Vicky Vicky countered I don't read podcasts okay all right so see we've there are valid points on
76. 15:09there are very good people on both sides of this argument but but to the do AI do do machine does machine learning read if
77. 15:20you think about how our brain works whether you get it through brail your ear holes or your eye holes there are words in an order
78. 15:30that go into your brain and your brain encodes them embeds them right and then those words are sort of
79. 15:39clustered in little semantic groupings in your brain and when someone says something about how you use AI your
80. 15:48brain goes oh I read that thing from Ethan mullik about you should treat the AI like people and then
81. 15:55you pull that out of your large language model down to your mouth hole and you squirt out that which is kind of what machine
82. 16:05learning's doing so yeah I think machine learning I think it reads I think it reads it might not store it quite the
83. 16:14way we store it but it's pretty close I mean neural networks are designed on how our brains are wired right huh fascinating welcome back
84. 16:25Brandon I tokenized his content exactly a processes and processes and analyzes text it does not read but it stores
85. 16:40it it stores it in an in an interesting way where H I don't know I don't know the meth well enough I don't know what the [ __ ] I'm talking
86. 16:55about it's not even text this number is converted no I understand that I understand how it works like it's it's getting embedded
87. 17:02but like our brain it's not a word that's sitting in our brain it's an electrical you know it's an electrical um synapse or an
88. 17:11Impulse that you know when fired in the sequence decode into a word right that's essentially what a large language model
89. 17:20is doing right a probability goes into the latent space it it grabs a point in mathematical space brings it out
90. 17:29converts it to a word and squirts the word out that's essentially how our brains work you're just talking the
91. 17:34information in through different holes oh taking the information in through different holes yeah I know but my issue
92. 17:41was can you call it reading if you're listening to it I think I think it's a good listen rather than a good read that's all I was
93. 17:51saying I I didn't realize the most controversial thing I would say on this channel was an audio book isn't
94. 18:01reading there are very strong feelings here I think this is for it apparently this is the most interesting issue of
95. 18:11the 2024 election oh do you hang up on people Kyle um May maybe I don't um I generally don't pick up if I don't know their
96. 18:26number all right MW to receive oh maram Webster to receive or take in a sense of letters symbols especially by sight
97. 18:38or touch interesting all right Mariam Webster is saying the ear holes ear holes are not part of the reading experience but fingers and eyes
98. 18:49are I wonder if actually you know it's interesting I wonder if that's going to change because audio books have gotten so popular that might
99. 18:57change oh man why does stable diffusion need a GP GPU um well the way that the way that large
100. 19:11language models and diffusion models work there are very specific kind of math where the GPU is more efficient
101. 19:19than a CPU so so basically if P's in here he can spank me later but but think of it like this a CPU is a CPU that's pretty funny almost as
102. 19:34controversial as the thumbs up emoji that was a good one Papa JJ a CPU is the most general of processing units Central Processing
103. 19:45Unit it's designed to do lots of things and and so in doing lots of things it got it's got lots of different sort of
104. 19:54processing areas and then buses in between those processing areas it's very complicated because it's got to do a lot
105. 20:01of different things right it's got to do networking and it's got to do processing and it's got to do IO management I
106. 20:08whatever the [ __ ] it's got to do it's got to do [ __ ] A GPU is faster because it says hey we're going to limit the
107. 20:16amount of calculations we do to a specific set of calculations that just happen to be good for things
108. 20:23like doing Graphics processing right so you're just you're just ramming a bunch of data sort of through this
109. 20:30system um and then they found out oh that also happens to be really good for doing things like mining Bitcoin where
110. 20:37you're where you're having to sort of run the the same kind of mathematical operations over and over and over again
111. 20:42because it's more specialized it it's good at that and then they found out oh that happens to be really good for um AI
112. 20:49training as well right because it's more simple and now there's a whole new class of chips called tpus and I don't know
113. 20:56what the ones called that grock does grq but they're even more specialized in simplified and they go much much faster let me let me show you
114. 21:05something so so here's chat GPT 4 and we're going to say why uh uh let's see let's see make
115. 21:21a an epic poem about which came first the chicken or the
116. 21:39egg and so if we pop that in you know it's going well now it's going really slow but even when it's going decently
117. 21:49fast it's like going slow enough that we can read it this is actually reminiscent of like a you know a 96 bod
118. 21:59modem back in the day when we went from 2400 bods which was like half this speed to 9600 bods or then 144 you know when you saw text on the
119. 22:09screen it was kind of this slow and so if I'm going to if I grab this same prompt and now I'm going to hop over to
120. 22:17this site called grock gq.com and where do I choose the model I think
121. 22:34it's defaulting to it so I'm going to put in the same make an epic poem about which came first the chicken or the egg now watch
122. 22:45this oh I gotta log in dang it okay did I sign in oh it's too late it's already done um here let me start over can I do
123. 22:58a new one so so we're using the Llama 3 Model so this is um this is meta's new llama 3 model and in fact we'll do their we'll
124. 23:12do their uh 70 billion parameter model and I want to do a new chat how do I do a new [Music] chat how do I do it
125. 23:28all right uh scroll to the Top Copy content all right let's pop in this prompt again all right watch it watch for
126. 23:43it done the egg the chicken so this is doing for the 70 billion parameter model 287 tokens a second so that's about 200 words per
127. 23:57second and if I if I do with their smaller model the the 8 billion 8 billion parameter model that's doing 800 tokens a second
128. 24:09right where I don't know how fast chat GPT was going but it was probably in the neighborhood of 50 to maybe 100 so this
129. 24:17is eight times as fast how they're doing that is the chip that grock makes is even more specialized than GPU so you
130. 24:26got CPU super complicated GPU more simplified and specialized and something like grock it's only designed to do
131. 24:34large language model inferences so when you do a prompt to chat GPT that's a large language model inference and it's
132. 24:41designed just to do this and so it's super fast because of that so that's why efficiency or throughput or whatever the
133. 24:50kind of math it does I don't know specifically what to do but in general in general that's how it works it says clear chat in the upper leth
134. 25:04hand corner oh yeah oh yeah they buried it underneath the prompt that's the problem with interface well especially when you go from sites
135. 25:14that are like relatively the same but they're slightly different stuff's just in slightly different positions your
136. 25:20brain kind of normalizes parts of the interface so you literally can't see the thing right in front of you is it still worth paying for chat
137. 25:35GPT um I don't think it's worth paying for multiple models I think it's worth
138. 25:51paying for either chat GPT or something like Po where you can get access to a bunch of different models um or something like Claude because
139. 26:05Claude 3 is very much a um gp4 competitor the the deal about chat GPT though is no one's really no one's really caught up with
140. 26:15gp4 and it's also got it's connected to the internet claud's not um it's got code interpreter Claude doesn't um meta
141. 26:26doesn't like there there's a bunch of other things that don't have the features that chat GPT has so I still
142. 26:33think chat GPT is the one to pay the 20 bucks a month for I do chat GPT and co-pilot and co-pilot's free do you do you pay for
143. 26:43co-pilot mud because co-pilot Pro you can make gpts although I got a I got a note from from Jim Ross today saying
144. 26:51that he tried to convert his GPT using um was it Jim Ross no it was someone else I forget who it was but
145. 27:02anyway okay so you pay for pay for that as well yeah he tried to he tried to replicate his GPT in Microsoft co-pilot
146. 27:12and he said it's just not ready for prime time so yeah I don't know I don't know I think chat gp4 is still still worth paying for cuz quite
147. 27:24frankly it's been a year it's been really two years since they've had it kind of done and it was two years before
148. 27:32that they were working on it so gp4 is four years old and everyone is just now almost catching up to it and they're red
149. 27:41teaming um chat GPT 5 right now so so I think it's worth paying for chat GPT just to get what's that
150. 27:52thing oh forever hook did that thank you very much forever hook I thought I was getting kicked off tikk St I thought it
151. 27:59was like 3 2 1 you're out of here you're banned for life paying $20 why why not pay this small amount is a no-brainer no I get it
152. 28:14but the the the challenge is really how many of those $20 a month is worth paying for it used to be like I paid for
153. 28:24Claude and for chat GPT because Claude had a big context window well now I can go to Gemini Pro 1.5 which has a million token context window
154. 28:33and I can use it for free so I don't have to pay for that anymore like I just I just feel like there's enough free
155. 28:40tools out there that are at a level that we can start trimming back on our subscriptions I think I need to do a subscription
156. 28:49audit I like meta AI answer formats that's interesting I also noticed meta seems to be meta's new um
157. 28:58chat GPT competitor seems to be a little more sparse in its answers which is kind of nice because you know chat GPT is a little a little
158. 29:10wordy I pay $600 a month for10 models I assume you're not kidding next

203. 38:32okay to what degree like if I use sentence completion in a Word document that's AI does that have to be labeled
