39. 9:04you massage it a little bit and you tweak it and out it comes you're like that's closer to it but that's still not
40. 9:10quite right and you reach back in and you out squirt something you're like that's it what's that moment that

56. 12:54work is that we Jam a bunch of [ __ ] in them and then at some point we have some idea and we go huh I should write a [Music]

58. 13:26professional came I was taking a guitar lesson I've only taken a guitar guitar lesson once in my life which may be obvious for my [Laughter]

62. 14:25go I was like oh what why why does that chord sound better than the others because it's clearly better
63. 14:36right that one's clearly better and by the way that's the chord that champy likes best as well it's the a
64. 14:44minor why is the a minor better than any other chord on the guitar and what he told me shook me he goes oh it's not better I said '
65. 14:59no but it is he goes no no it's not better it's just your musical taste and I was like oh that's why I like sad songs that's
66. 15:12why I like singer songwriters that that sing these like massively depressing songs to me they're uplifting and
67. 15:17beautiful to other people they listen to them my my co-founder of Story vine whenever I put on songs I like in the car she's like this is
68. 15:26depressing but it's not to me so how is it

77. 17:15that you can very quickly generate crap and if you just squirt out crap and spray it on the walls that's not a painting
78. 17:32right unless of course it's the early 1970s and you want to [ __ ] on canvas as your art but that's a whole different thing that's a
79. 17:42choice but when I go too to make my musical I go there knowing okay I need a song about when this entity called Sydney
80. 17:53that's this chatbot that's going to fall in love with this dude when she realizes that what she really wants more than
81. 17:59anything in the world is to see the world the way we see the world the way a poet sees the world and I go to
82. 18:10sunno I have I have the story in my head I have the idea in my head I give sunno some inputs sunno reaches into the sort of mass of
83. 18:24humanity that's been you know in the training data which by the way if you don't know how any of this [ __ ] Works

88. 19:02personal taste and you're going to put something on paper that's going to be some malange of everything that's come
89. 19:11before that's exactly what it does and then it squirts out a pair of songs I'm like no that's not it and I

121. 26:26right but that wouldn't exist without the collaboration of this community and me sort of ultimately being the Rick

124. 26:46half hours that was a long night that's that's on YouTube somewhere if you want to find the birth of that song all the

126. 27:03session um that video came came later I don't think people have a sense

137. 29:06technical thing out of the way first the T stands for Transformer and you're like oh like a like the robot kinda I don't know sort
138. 29:16of no maybe I don't know Transformers is the technology some scientists at Google came up with this concept of attention
139. 29:27and this mechanism called the Transformer or it was a concept of a transformer and the mechanism of attention I don't [ __ ] know they
140. 29:35wrote this paper called attention is all you need and in it they introduced this idea of the Transformer and the
141. 29:41Transformer is the thing that lets us take any [ __ ] data in the world whether it's music or art or or MRI data or poetry or just
142. 29:54anything and you embed it you you squirt it into this thing apparently me talking about AI squirting things out is is uh
143. 30:02has has made the headlines here today so that's the word of the day so what the Transformer does is you take any amount
144. 30:08of data and what they found out is the more data that you throw into this thing the better it gets and it it
145. 30:30okay so that's what makes what we get to experience possible the T but it's the G and the P that are really the important
146. 30:38pieces the G stands for generative and generative doesn't get enough love in my opinion because people look [Music]
147. 30:52at people look at what chat GPT does and when because it's got this little like it looks like a search box and then you
148. 30:59type words in it and words come out that's kind of how Google acts but Google's not generative well it
149. 31:08is now but it wasn't the Google search engine wasn't generative it was it was whatever they call it predictive or logical they've
150. 31:17got some code you type in your stuff it goes into its database and it pulls out indexed things from its database that's how computers
151. 31:27have always worked they've always worked in this predictive way you write computer code you put data in a database
152. 31:34you put inputs into the code and it performs some logical operation and it it squirts back expected results that's not what generative does
153. 31:47that's not what AI does you put in inputs and what it squirts out is something new and novel now it might be
154. 31:58novel in all of humanity it might be driil because you put in a shitty prompt and it just sort of reached in and it
155. 32:06pulled out the most generic possible answer so one of the reasons people sour on AI is that they put in a shitty
156. 32:14prompt they get back a shitty answer and they're like oh this is shitty it's not shitty you're shitty AI is a reflection of you buddy sis
157. 32:29so if you ain't getting the results you want that's on you because it is capable of remarkable remarkable amounts of
158. 32:39things I think GPT 40 has an IQ of about what did they say 120 one 117 120 I forget what it is I think 120ish it's sort of landing at the
159. 32:53120ish gp03 so we went GP PT 40 gp01 which is a reasoning engine maybe no it was 01 that was 120 I think GPT 40 was probably in
160. 33:06the in the low 100s and I think 01 was was 120 IQ and 03 the one that they just had that's testing at 157 Einstein was between 160 and
161. 33:20190 so this thing is generating new original stuff it is it reaches into its mathematical bucket of slop based on your prompt and it
162. 33:37predictively squirts out it essentially literally does that squirts out tokens that look to you and I like song lyrics
163. 33:47or like code or like a picture pictures are a little different they use a thing called diffusion but that's a technical
164. 33:53detail if anyone tries to troll me on that [ __ ] yourself okay that's the G so the T Transformer that's the technology the G it's
165. 34:03generative it's a big [ __ ] deal that this thing generates it means that computers no longer act the way they
166. 34:10used to act starting January or November 30th 2022 computers don't act the same as they used to they are collaborative entities which
167. 34:23gets us to the P the p is really important here's my box haven't used the Box in a while this is your AI

169. 34:52this this is your the model so when you put your prompt in and it reaches into the latent space what it's actually reaching into is this
170. 35:06mathematical space that they call a model that you sort of take all of the output of humanity you encode it in this special
171. 35:14way it turns it into math like literal numbers that are semantically clustered throws them in here and it it
172. 35:26literally just becomes this black box and then when you ask it [ __ ] it asks the black box and the Black Box does something and then
173. 35:40it squirts out an answer what do they put in the Box what's the P the P stands for pre-trained so it used to be with AI you
174. 35:51had to bring your own container and you had to bring your own data and let's say you would bring MRI data for for
175. 35:58scanning I don't know lung scans for for finding cancer and you would make a specialized model and and your AI would just be good
176. 36:11at that one thing they they were like vertical applications and what the Transformer allowed was you can stick all of the
177. 36:18information in this box as much as you can get stick it in here so we as end users don't need to bring our data it's already the box is
178. 36:28already full what's it full of all of us everything that we've ever put on the internet every song we've ever written
179. 36:37every poem we've ever written every painting every writing about the song that inspired the painting or the
180. 36:44painting that inspired the song all of it's in there all the fiction all the this all the that now contemporary
181. 36:50artists are pissed off because they're like well you pay me my money except the problem with that is none of their Works exist in the same
182. 37:00form that they used to they're now they're now on all these component parts it's almost like you take all the
183. 37:06output of humanity and you run it through this engine this Transformer engine and it it it discombobulates what was cake
184. 37:16into little grains of sugar and just scatters them throughout this mathematical space with all the other grains of sugar
185. 37:29and so when you give it a prompt it's it it it's literally doing what our brain does when someone asks you a
186. 37:41question your brain reaches into some weird mathematical latent space thousand dimensional synoptical connected
187. 37:54chemically electrically Amplified latent space and it takes all the [ __ ] you've ever learned and it goes and it squirts out
188. 38:05something that some other part of your brain then makes your [ __ ] muscles do what they do and words come out of your mouth it's almost
189. 38:20identical so when people say that it can't be creative that's where this started my response is [ __ ] use it have you
190. 38:30ever used it you ever gotten good at it if youve Gotten Good at it um it can be creative and ultimately what is art
191. 38:45art is the moment an artist a Creator says it's done someone says I want to express
192. 39:00something and maybe they teach themselves painting and they take the paints and they put it on a canvas and they put it
193. 39:06on the canvas and they put it on the canvas and they look at it and they go it's art it's done here World in that sense AI is just another
194. 39:17tool in that Arsenal now it happens to be an incredibly capable tool that can generate a lot of stuff and so there's a lot of stuff
195. 39:26generated out of AI That's not art but let me ask you something what percentage of paint that's sold at Michael's art supply
196. 39:42store turns into art probably not much right it's probably mostly just dribble squat you squirt some stuff out you slap it on a
197. 39:52thing you make a poster for school with some letters on it is that art well it's it's artistic right it's a
198. 40:01creation that's what most of AI is most of AI is is like posters for Pep rallies at high school the equivalent of
199. 40:10that but some of the people are using AI to make [ __ ] masterpieces and that's what I think our job is I think that's the role of the
200. 40:24human yeah we have to learn to use the tools you have to learn to prompt you have to learn to you have to know what mid Journey
201. 40:33does you have to know you don't have to if you want to make good images you do you want to know what your tools are
202. 40:39right if you're a painter how many different kinds of paints are there I don't know probably a thousand and then you get brands on top
203. 40:47of that and then you have techniques on top of that well that's all of your different image generation tools if you're a writer do you write
204. 40:56with a pen and paper you write with with a typewriter do you write with a computer do you write by talking and having someone else type it
205. 41:05up for you that's those are all your llms right so the tools are just the tools you got to learn the tools but I think our
206. 41:14job is to say what do I want to put in the world and if you're not a douchebag you put things in the world
207. 41:28that are some expression of who you are and what you believe in and you do that to try to have an impact on other human beings that's [ __ ]

235. 48:02paint if you're a fan of Andy Warhols you go figure out how he did his screen printing and you try to recreate the Marilyn Monroe
236. 48:12piece and then you're like yeah I kind of like it but I don't like how he did this thing and then you're like but I
237. 48:18probably should like it because he's Andy Warhol no at some point you find your own voice right at some point you put on your own pink

239. 48:43did is he said I've been helping Claude an AI with remarkable drive to express its inner experience through artistic
240. 48:54creation so he's B basically having Claude Express itself and then he's helping it make images and so of itself like
241. 49:11self-portraits which I think is just [ __ ] fascinating so I figured we could play with that tonight so so I wanted to give I wanted
242. 49:24to give max credit because it's it's a cool idea and I don't want to I don't want you all to think that I've suddenly
243. 49:31become qualified you know what I'm saying that I that I suddenly have a clue all right let me see if there's any
