49. 12:27about well no I think think all of what this channel is about is demystifying AI like just [ __ ] play with it just play with
50. 12:41it just play with it you don't have to learn it you don't need a math degree but it's artificial intelligence they
51. 12:48always said you needed a math degree you did you did and then November 30th 2022 happened and this quaint little company called
52. 13:03open AI launched a piece of software that they developed in two weeks the reason they could launch it in
53. 13:15two weeks was because it was the example program in the documentation for the GPT API and nobody built it so they built it
54. 13:29and it was Chad GPT and all of a sudden all the power of generative AI was sitting behind this simple little
55. 13:41box that looked like a Google search box and so the Kevin McAllister reference is it is my hope that if you're here and you're like
56. 13:51why are we watching an old guy sort of play guitar is he wearing a Kevin mallister t-shirt it is my hope that you play
57. 14:03with generative Ai and if you haven't played with it ever right now while I'm rambling go to a web browser and type in chat gp.com
58. 14:16and ask it to write you um a poem about and then give it a subject or or a an epic poem about or have it write you a marketing plan

61. 14:54like oh yeah yeah I tried chat yippy tape I I went to it it yeah when it came out I went there and I uh I put in a
62. 15:00prompt and let me tell you what I like Google better okay so if you use cat GPT like that and you're in the I like Google
63. 15:10better category that means you haven't actually tried it so go there and um ask it to write you a computer
64. 15:20program you're like well I don't know how to program exactly ask it to write you a uh real estate mortgage calculator in Python and
65. 15:30just watch what it [Music] does and today open AI actually opened up image generation Dolly image generation for free for everyone now if
66. 15:47you're a free user you get two images a day which is like laughably low normally they'll give you like five or 10 they
67. 15:55they're giving you two so go to chat GPT and ask it to make you an image of it doesn't matter and then and then watch watch what it
68. 16:17does hang on I'll be there calm down um I had to adjust my air conditioner vent angle cuz it was all blown and the cold air up there and I
69. 16:30need it on my shiny [ __ ] head more free stuff we have to pay for exactly are we holding no I was just fixing the air conditioner

101. 22:44well you know here's here's one of the things archetypal architect is we grew up with three TV stations right we grew up
102. 22:53without alternative entertainment if you wanted to learn something you had to go to the [ __ ] library and
103. 23:03learn The Dewy Decimal System right like there was like six things to do and so consequently there there
104. 23:10wasn't like the proliferation of of like the the uh I forget what they call it in groceries I think it's called slotting
105. 23:17fees right once grocery stores realized wait a minute the shelves at eye level are you know [ __ ] sells more there so we
106. 23:26can charge the manufacturers the minute grocery stores went with slotting fees all the manufacturers like we got to get
107. 23:33as many different SKS skus so as many different products as possible so so like when we grew up there was like you know whole green
108. 23:45beans french green beans like there was two kinds of green beans three different brands that was it you know now you got
109. 23:53blueberry favor flavored green beans and shrimp pus green beans oh man you can take the kid out of the trailer park
110. 24:03but you can't take the trailer park out of the [Music] kid so true it is so [Music] true I actually grew up near uh Mr
111. 24:19[Music] K where he lives right now and the battles he's facing with the
112. 24:34closed-mindedness that's why I had to get out of [Music] there isn't it funny you know there's some people one of the things that I liked
113. 24:50about living in New York City I know it's doesn't have anything to do with AI but [ __ ] it one of the things I like
114. 24:55living in New York City is is that everyone in New York City everyone that comes to New York City they come
115. 25:09there because for the for the most part they had to leave where they grew up right like people are motivated to go
116. 25:19there to pursue something like they're motivated so strongly they had to escape so strongly that they go to the toughest
117. 25:27[ __ ] city in the world to try to make it and it's like like the story was very Universal and it's there's something
118. 25:35about that energy like in my graduating class from high school I think it was like 250 people out of 250 people four were leaving
119. 25:52town four and I remember talking about you know it's 12th grade we're graduating I'm getting the [ __ ] out of
120. 26:03here you you getting out of here and they're like no why would you leave here and my response is like why would you
121. 26:17stay and just some people are like that right some people grow up and they it wasn't that I hated the people it wasn't
122. 26:25that I hated anything about it it was perfectly fine but like the thought of staying there just felt like well why would you
123. 26:35do like it like it it literally couldn't register in the gray matter and and what was fascinating about it was to the
124. 26:44people that were like well why would you leave it it couldn't register for them why you would want to be anywhere else other
125. 26:54than that and especially not New York City [Music] [ __ ] [Music] crazy I couldn't wait to get out I want
126. 27:06an adventure yeah exactly it's like there's a [ __ ] world out there there's a there's a thing and I also I
127. 27:13was really into acting so I did a year in community college and I only did that cuz I don't know like I didn't register in time or
128. 27:22something like that so I had to do a year in community college or not in Community College like the the the York brand of Penn
129. 27:29State and then I transferred to the main main campus Penn State Main and then I was supposed to go I had a I had a full scholarship to
130. 27:40the Alabama Shakespeare Festival which which sounds like an oxymoron but they actually had a really nice theater down
131. 27:47there from A1 to french green beans you never know what you're going to get welcome to Chad [Music] add um I had a full ride to the Alabama
132. 27:56Shakespeare Festival for their MFA [Applause] [Music] program and I got cast in three peny Opera in a summer
133. 28:08theater and I got to um Faith Prince was in the show and um John peel Meer was in the show he was the author of Agnes of
134. 28:19God he wrote that play and consequent movie he was in it he's a really good actor he's a really funny actor and uh
135. 28:30it was directed by this guy named Paul Giovani who was a Broadway director and so at the end of the summer he offered me a role he was doing
136. 28:41a show at the only theater in uh in Washington DC in October and so in August he said actually right around this time of year
137. 28:52he said hey Kyle do you want to you want to go do an equity show in Washington DC I'm directing was it was the crucifer of
138. 29:00blood it was a Sherlock Holmes play and I'm like well I got a full ride to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and
139. 29:09he's like okay well you don't have to go he was very he was cool Paul Giovani like that's fine you don't have to go
140. 29:17I'm like no I'll go I'll take [Music] it cuz I was getting my Equity card and so I was like [ __ ] it I'm going to get
141. 29:26my Equity card go do the show in Washington DC and I'm going to move to New York City and that's what I did I
142. 29:32called up the the uh head of the program at the Alabama shakespere Festival two years or two weeks before I'm supposed
143. 29:39to be there I was like uh hey I got an equity show I'm moving to New York City he's like you'll never
144. 29:48work in this town again I'm like tuscalo Alabama I'm good [Music]
145. 30:30oh all right good decision yeah it was it was a great decision actually oh you want to know something [ __ ] amazing
146. 30:37so I worked with John peel Meer in the summer of this was the summer of 87 yeah yeah I graduated graduated in '
147. 30:5087 so was at the the three peny Opera was at the mount Greta Playhouse in Pennsylvania in open air theat theater and uh that was [Music]
148. 31:03cool and so I go do the show I go to crucifer of blood in Washington DC for whatever it is 3 we run or four week [Music]
149. 31:12run and I moved to New York City I mov into an apartment with two other actors that I knew from the Utah
150. 31:20Shakespeare Festival that I worked with the year before and so it's like my first or second day in New York City and
151. 31:31I'm like I want to go see Time Square so I take the subway down to Time Square and it's rush hour and I'm
152. 31:39walking through Time Square shut up Champion you good all right so I'm walking I'm walking through Time Square
153. 31:52in rush hour and you know Time Square in rush hour is like just it's a [ __ ] sea of humanity right [ __ ] people
154. 31:58everywhere I'm walking in here I like huh I was like yeah wasn't that and I hear Kyle someone called my name and I turn
155. 32:10around and it was John peel me so like my second day in New York City in Time Square in Rush Hour the guy I just did a
156. 32:18play with I ran into him like I just ran into him it was like it felt so [ __ ] magical it felt like like the odds of it
157. 32:26were like you know and New York is like that New York is a weirdly small town like you'll run into people it's weird it's very neighbor
158. 32:41[Music] hoodie and people are actually a hell of a lot warmer than you think they are they're loud but they really give a [ __ ]
159. 32:58yeah there's something about a New York City energy that's just this directed it's like a focused [Music]
160. 33:14energy if you've never spent good time in New York City it's kind of different now [Music] but there's just something remarkable
161. 33:30about doing anything in a city where most people are there because they chose to be there they're there because you
162. 33:40know they're there to accomplish something you know like whether it's a restaurant or a [ __ ] food cart or you
163. 33:48know a farmers market stand or a play like people are just like I'm going to [ __ ] do it I'm going to [ __ ] do it
164. 34:02yeah that's crazy heard my name called twice in New York City wild and I and I lived in Oklahoma yeah it's weird man
165. 34:11it's weird the other thing that is is is not um you can't really describe is driving in New York city so driving in New York
166. 34:23City I [ __ ] love it it's like if you've got add so there's something about driving an add like add people
167. 34:31tend to be good drivers because they tend to they're they're like taking everything in they're synthesizing all
168. 34:36the information everything right well in New York City when you're driving if you um if you have any Instinct of
169. 34:49politeness you you just get eaten alive right like people just cut you off and so what you have to do is you just have
170. 34:57to the the lines on the street don't matter and what you have to do is you have to get into this video game Zone
171. 35:05where all you're looking at is um the relationships between cars and so if you see the cars doing this you're like oh I
172. 35:13can get in that space so you see the cars do this you jump into that space and you just constantly it's [ __ ] it's it's a [ __ ] blast

174. 35:38lights and you could drive from from like 14th Street all the way to you know 86th 96th without missing a light but

191. 38:45about being old well about being old and you know the Noggin is still relatively intact got a lot of stories so my first job out of New York
192. 39:01City was my uh my roommate Todd Todd Merill he's an actor that's done some work and he had an agent and his agent
193. 39:13said oh some of some of her clients were getting jobs at FAO Schwarz and she she gave the name of this dude and so I went
194. 39:21down to FAO Schwarz the big toy store on Fifth Avenue bottom of Central Park and they were like well you know
195. 39:29what do you do and I'm like I don't know I juggle and they're like okay you want to sell yo-yos so so my first job in New York
196. 39:45City was selling yo-yos at FAO Schwarz so that was a good one I met Walter KRON kite I met Keith
197. 40:00[Music] Richards oh man that was cool I stood right at the top of the escalator you'd come up the escalator and I'd be there
198. 40:09doing yo-yo tricks do you have access to the new voice mode I don't think so let me let me see if I got it

202. 41:04so so New York City's tough right so one of the one of the challenges as an actor in New York City is you can't get work
203. 41:12unless you have an equity card you can't get an equity card unless you get hired and then you can't get an agent
204. 41:21unless you have work and you right and you can't get work if you don't have an agent I heard some ideas oh I need some ideas for trying
205. 41:32voice please so Source Camp has access to the new voice module so if you have ideas uh pop them in the comments that's a great
206. 41:40idea so um so I joined sort of this acting class it was called drama project it was it was a workshop for playwrights
207. 41:50and directors and actors and actors had to audition to get in and playwrights had to be invited and directors had to
208. 41:56be invited invited and everybody paid 40 bucks a month or whatever it was and that's where I met with my wife and
209. 42:04um so we were doing we we were doing this and you know we were all trying to get work and trying to get agents and
210. 42:11trying to get plays and trying to get auditions and all that [ __ ] and and what we decided was well why don't we just put on our
211. 42:20own plays and so we started a theater company called new voice theater um the producer was a guy named Evan
212. 42:30Bergman he had access to funds and could kind of fund it and get it off the ground and so he did that for 4 and a half
213. 42:39years and then after that you know I got tired of doing free theater and I was doing desktop publishing as my day job
214. 42:47so I'm you know making annual reports for American Express down at down at World Trade Center actually um or right
215. 42:55across the street from it and and uh I'm doing desktop publishing and and then I I decide I know I'm going
216. 43:03to write myself an acting career so my buddy Brian dyra I said I have this idea for a screenplay and he goes well I have an
217. 43:10idea for a screenplay and I was like well [ __ ] why don't we write a screenplay so every night so you know
218. 43:13how I do these things every night it was a similar sort of commitment Brian and I committed to write every night five nights a week all
219. 43:23day Saturday and all day Sunday for a year and so in a 2-year period um I wrote five five screen plays with
220. 43:38Brian one on my own and one with another guy and then one where it was Brian and it was three of us and that was pretty cool we started a
221. 43:49fake management company called Outlaw management cuz we didn't have agents so we're like well [ __ ] it we'll be our own agent
222. 43:58so so we got casting breakdowns we got we we were sending screenplays to Hollywood we had a whole database of of Hollywood producers we
223. 44:09were sending screenplays to so that's pretty cool we got one of the screen plays options we didn't sell
224. 44:15any and then here's coming back around to AI my Channel please [Music]
225. 44:31New York City Nostalgia it's not new life theater new voice Theater Brandon but that's [Music] cool um so I was working at an ad Agency
226. 44:47on 23rd street called East West [Music] creative Len zabala was the owner of that agency and so this
227. 45:02is 94 and I had just joined a dialup bulletin board system I don't know if you remember dialup bbs's but there was one in New York City
228. 45:16there was a dialup BBS called Echo started by Stacy horn and it was cool it had like New York City like you know reporter
229. 45:27professional reporters were on there hackers were on there the famous hacker fiber optic was on there we would have [Music]
230. 45:37parties and so I'm I'm people in there are kind of talking about this thing called the internet and they're talking
231. 45:44about goer servers and FTP servers and and they sort of tell you how you get there and you have to command line
232. 45:51your way over there so I'm geeking out a little bit on the internet but it's really Technical and I'm not all that
233. 45:57technical there there were like full-on [ __ ] hackers in there and they like oh it's relatively trivial you just you
234. 46:03hu the GP and you command Lin SL you know that [ __ ] you know like Engineers do they talk about it like it's trivial
235. 46:13and you're like my head [Laughter] hurts so all that was going on and I remember seeing bus ads for
236. 46:29Wired Magazine and it was the first issue of Wired [Music] Magazine and I went to buy the first issue of
237. 46:43Wired Magazine and it was sold out still regret that um cuz I have I have every issue of Wired Magazine through
238. 47:00like the first three years something like that maybe the first four years it was a lot Wired Magazine was like a
239. 47:06Bible back then so anyway I was into this stuff and I was I was starting to learn about this thing called the worldwide web
240. 47:18and so I went to Echo to dial up BBS and nobody um nobody was really talking about the web and there were there were some there
241. 47:28were forums different forums within Echo and so I reached out to Stacy horn and I said it doesn't look like there's a web

255. 50:00neelen John neelen I I I talked to him I don't know seven eight years ago I'm still you know decently in touch with
256. 50:11him and I said I don't know how to put my magazine on the internet and he said oh I know this server in California here's the phone
257. 50:21[Laughter] number so if you're a youngster which you're probably not in here people that like me tend to be a little little of
258. 50:32the older persuasion but if you're a youngster we used to have to have our computers call up other computers and
259. 50:38ask them for permission if we could if they could talk so I took this phone number and I called this computer in California modem modem
260. 50:54sound and I uploaded my files to the this computer in California and then I was on the internet I was like that's [Music] cool now
261. 51:09what it's very anticlimactic and then the world [Music]
262. 51:24changed 3 weeks later 3 weeks later and what Urban desires was by the way was I looked at the internet and what I saw on it was
263. 51:40engineers and research scientists and Librarians and technologists and academics and what I didn't see were
264. 51:51artists and I thought why don't I do a magazine that's about art and culture cuz it'll stand out cuz the only thing that's there is
265. 52:01like PhD dissertations and they were boring for me cuz you know literacy [Music]
266. 52:19[Music] add yeah yeah there you go I remember remember making a long-distance phone call to a BBS to download a postcript
267. 52:30font I definitely did that so 3 weeks after I publish Urban desires I get a note on Echo in the in the web
268. 52:40Forum I don't remember who sent it to me but they said hey Kyle did you know that Urban desires was written
269. 52:48about in liberon the Parisian News Daily I had never even heard of liberon I was like no really what's that oh it's
270. 53:03the biggest newspaper in France oh [Music] cool so I was living in New York City what do you do when you living in New York
271. 53:18City you go to the international news stand and you can get International newspapers so the following Sunday I
272. 53:26went to the international news stand in the middle of Time Square back to Time Square Yeah couple of couple of big
273. 53:34moments in my life were right in the middle of Time Square that's pretty cool I never made that connection [Music] before
274. 53:49um and I buy the copy of liberti and I'm flipping through this newspaper and then I just hit this page and it says in French something
275. 53:58something Urban desires and there's screenshots of the website that I made on vacation in the Pennsylvania
276. 54:07mountains I uploaded from my apartment in Brooklyn to a computer in California written about in Paris France 3 weeks later and in that
277. 54:21moment I knew that the world had changed [Music] and I mean like it wasn't like oh yeah the world changed it was like I had chills running
278. 54:37up and down my body I was like shaking I was on the verge of tears because I was standing there with this piece of knowledge
279. 54:59that that everything was different that geography had just collapsed that that time had just compressed that everything was going to
280. 55:12be done this way like I knew it like I like it was like a [ __ ] beam from Heaven everything's different and I'm standing in the middle
281. 55:22of Time Square like there's [ __ ] taxis flying by me and people pushing by me and you know people cussing and actors in stinky
282. 55:36costumes those [ __ ] Time Square actors that look like Bugs Bunny their stinky [ __ ] costumes and it hit me nobody here knows what's going
283. 55:47on holy [ __ ] like everything's different and also knew in that moment
284. 56:03that how lucky I [Music] was to be in any way participating in
285. 56:19it because when I was in seventh grade I got I walked into my first classroom my a math classroom and there were Radio Shack tr8s on every
286. 56:35desk and we learned basic programming on trash 80s in 1977 and I remember having a realization then that
287. 56:47PCS were going to change everything and that and that it felt very much like this must have been what being
288. 56:57alive when the printing press was invented was like and I remember I remember being heartbroken that I was just too
289. 57:05young to be at the at the at the beginning at the start of the PC Revolution and I knew that these things
290. 57:14don't come along that often so I figured in my lifetime that was it that I missed it and I was actually really sad about
291. 57:20that for a long time and so standing there in Time Square holding this newspaper with this big article in
292. 57:26French of my my online magazine and realizing oh my God this is one of those this is one of those Technologies I mean it was moving it was
293. 57:43[ __ ] [Music] spiritual and so you know I also started um agency.com so so once I kind of had you know
294. 57:59epiphanies about about um all this internet stuff in a 3-week period I started the worldwide web artist
295. 58:08Consortium which was a community of web enthusiasts web optimists I started Urban desires and I started agency.com and agency.com was
296. 58:19one of the first digital agencies and I was a chief creative officer there [Music] and what was what was amazing
297. 58:30amazing about the early days of agency.com is that we were making it up like there weren't courses in information design there wasn't ux ux
298. 58:41hadn't been invented I mean there was software but like not on the internet you know not with this HTML [Music]
299. 58:52stuff and everyone that worked in agency.com or or in any capacity in those days there was a certain kind of person
300. 59:04that worked at a company like that they were curious they were adventurous they were generous they were
301. 59:15playful because the only way you could figure [ __ ] out was to play with it well let me try this well let me try that we
302. 59:22had we had this thing that that happened organically um called geek and tells and a geek and tell was someone in the office would
303. 59:31figure something out and they' go oh hey guys come here I figured out how to animate images really and and like all
304. 59:39the Geeks would sort of gather around the person that had figured something out and they're like yeah you go like
305. 59:44this and you do this and you do this kind and look it Wiggles we're like and then everyone would run back to their
306. 59:50desk and they would they would try it it was [ __ ] magical and we all felt lucky that we were getting to do this we
307. 1:00:01were agency.com in a four-month period we landed the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue time in consumer marketing Hitachi
308. 1:00:13Global GTE which was a phone company back then um American Express student and we actually put sunglasses on the
309. 1:00:23American Express Gladiator dude we we're like he should have sunglasses it's it's for the college it's for American
310. 1:00:30Express student for colleges he should be cool we got that through corporate the American Express student site the
311. 1:00:37Gladiator had [ __ ] sunglasses on um we got metti we landed metti this was all in like 4 months some of the biggest brands in the
312. 1:00:51world and we're just like holy [ __ ] clay tury at one point he worked for us for a while and he said it was late one night we're all
313. 1:01:04tired and we're just like marveling we closed another piece of business or something like that we're just marveling
314. 1:01:09at what the [ __ ] is going on Clay shery looks at me goes you know who you are Kyle I said no who he goes you're the Forest Gump of the
315. 1:01:20[Laughter] [Music] internet was a pretty sick burn but it was like it really was like you know as a guy who moved to New York City with an
316. 1:01:31acting degree to be you know building this [ __ ] was was [Music]
317. 1:01:46remarkable so Flash Forward [Music] forward to 2022 in
318. 1:02:03November and I had spent the summer playing around with some image generation tools and some nft stuff and I was I was sort
319. 1:02:14of getting reconnected with with my passion for technology my company Story vines 12 years old we've kind of you
320. 1:02:21know we've built the technology it it wasn't really innovating it was you know it was just kind of we were selling it
321. 1:02:26and delivering stuff and so I kind of stepped away from innovating and building [ __ ] and so so I was making images with
322. 1:02:36stable diffusion did I say mid journey I meant stable diffusion stable diffusion and dream Booth started a little art art
323. 1:02:42project called Kyle Shannon dreams if you want to see it go to Instagram Kyle Shannon [Music] Dreams yeah mods I'll definitely get to
324. 1:02:56all the stuff you're talking about that's super cool I'll definitely play with it so so I'm playing with all that stuff
325. 1:03:05and and one of my favorite creative directors from agency.com it's a guy named Chris Needum he works in Boston he
326. 1:03:12was the chief story story officer for Fidelity um brilliant [ __ ] guy really nice guy [ __ ] crazy nuts but awesome
327. 1:03:26and just brilliant brilliant and so Chris called me and he said I want you to you know are you willing to talk to my friend
328. 1:03:36Leah um who's a professional photographer and I see you're doing all this AI image stuff and she's afraid like she she she wants to know
329. 1:03:47about this stuff and you know she's she's a photographer so she's like you know is this going to H how we doing
330. 1:03:52here is this going to be okay am I going to still have a career and um so I talked to her so she and I got to talk in and we just we
331. 1:04:00really hit it off and she had such a cool attitude she was like I don't know anything about AI but I want to try it and um I went
332. 1:04:12through the transition from film to digital and and we just we just like really hit it off we had a really good
333. 1:04:19talk and then a week later chat jpt came out and I started playing with it I was like
334. 1:04:33huh this is interesting and I started doing the little parlor tricks right it was writing poems it was writing this it
335. 1:04:40was writing that it was clear to me that it was this was way more than a Google search it looked like a Google search
336. 1:04:48box but this was way more than a Google Search and then one night I'm watching TV with with the misses and I lost the battle you know if
337. 1:05:03if if I win the battle we're watching the The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch or greatest catch or whatever the [ __ ]
338. 1:05:14if I lose the battle we're watching [ __ ] costume dramas all right so this is a costume drama night this one you'll like will I
339. 1:05:30I remember we were we were living in New York City she kept dragging me to [ __ ] costume dramas movie after movie
340. 1:05:36and I was just like I [ __ ] hate them she goes you're going to love this one she takes me to some merch and ivory
341. 1:05:43[ __ ] costume drama and it's Merchant Ivory like they're the best costume dramas right and we're [ __ ] I used to
342. 1:05:49make fun of them CU I'm like they always have the same plot they always have the butler that comes in and says this and
343. 1:05:55so we're watching watching this movie in the theater and the [ __ ] Butler comes in and says that and I just look at her
344. 1:06:01and I don't stop looking at her she looks at me and she kind of resign resign and she like H I said can we go so we walked out it was
345. 1:06:10[Laughter] [Music] horrible so anyway so that's on TV and I'm playing with chat GPT and for years you know I've been
346. 1:06:23thinking about getting back into programming or building or something and people like oh you should learn python
347. 1:06:29you should learn python you should learn Python and I'm like oh I should learn python I should learn python I should
348. 1:06:33learn Python and then I would try to go Learn Python and I'm like oh God this feels like work I actually have to learn this and I
349. 1:06:41would go Google [ __ ] and there'd be like tutorials and I'd look at the tutorial like I don't want to [ __ ] so I never
350. 1:06:48learned python but I heard chat GPT could write code so I went to chat GPT and I said give me some python code that takes
351. 1:07:00an input and like uh process it or stores it or I forget what I said and it just vomited out this code I was like oh
352. 1:07:10cool and then I had this panicked moment where I realized I don't know how to run python code like I haven't done this [ __ ] in
353. 1:07:20decades and and something started to unravel in my mind which was that feeling of being incompetent especially if you've if
354. 1:07:32you've got a particular kind of personality where shame is your love language if you're if you're tough on yourself
355. 1:07:44um that feeling of oh [ __ ] I don't know how to do this historically you would have to call up your buddy Jim that knew how to do that
356. 1:07:54and go uh Jim uh hey uh I know how to do this I definitely know how to do this but could you just confirm like what's
357. 1:08:01the best way to run python code and you'd have to like fall on your sword and admit that you were an idiot and I was like oh I don't have to
358. 1:08:10even think of who to call let me just see if chat GPT can help and I said hey chat GPT I don't know how to run python code it's like not a
359. 1:08:18problem and so it taught me how to run python code and it introduced me to repet which was a website I could just
360. 1:08:24copy and paste python code and run it and so I copied my code over and I ran it and it gave me an error I was
361. 1:08:32like ah [ __ ] and like I got washed over with that Feeling Again of like you're a [ __ ] idiot you don't know anything
362. 1:08:38you big fat Fu [ __ ] fat dumb dumb I have a swell in her dialogue I was like ah [ __ ] I was like oh [ __ ] hey chat GPT uh it gave me an
363. 1:08:53error and C tvt was like no problem you're missing this library and I was like okay how do I install the library
364. 1:09:04and like what I'm what I'm what I'm learning in kind of real time is that how you interact with chat gbt is a lot
365. 1:09:11less like push a button give me an answer and a lot more like you're having a conversation with someone that actually
366. 1:09:20knows what they're doing I was like oh and so I said okay I how do I install that Library it knew I was on repet cuz
367. 1:09:30it had give me given me that site and it said in the lower leftand corner of the screen you're going to see this
368. 1:09:36button and I flipped over and I looked at the lower leftand corner of the screen and there was that button and so
369. 1:09:43I clicked on it and I went back to Chachi and said in the upper right hand corner you're going to then search for
370. 1:09:48this library and I searched for it and then you're going to hit install and then I hit submit and then it worked I hit play and the code
371. 1:09:59worked I was like holy [ __ ] I just got python code to run within this was within 3 minutes within 90
372. 1:10:12minutes I had written a fully functional python application that was making API calls to open AI taking an input from a user and
373. 1:10:25generating five pieces of social media content it was [ __ ] remarkable like my face [ __ ] melted it was my first
374. 1:10:33true Kevin mallister moment it was I'm like honey you can't believe what is she's like that's nice we're watching The Butler about to come
375. 1:10:49on and I got that same [ __ ] chill like that beam from the heavens where it hit me in that moment holy [ __ ] the world just changed
376. 1:11:03and no one knows it yet because my experience with AI up to that point was not pleasant it was oh you want to use AI
377. 1:11:16okay here's this thing called tensor flow so you're going to learn the tensor programming language and then you're
378. 1:11:22going to learn about model weights and embeddings and and I huh what a degree from Stanford would be
379. 1:11:34preferred if you're going to do this but you know we made it easy for you it was horrible and here I was sitting on the other side of a
380. 1:11:4490minut application development conversation I had where I wrote a python application but I didn't write a line of python code [Music]
381. 1:11:58and I flashed back to standing in Time Square in New York City holding that newspaper and I said holy [ __ ] this is one of those here we go
382. 1:12:14again that night I started this Tik Tok channel that night I sent a note to Leah fasten and I said let's start the AI
383. 1:12:28Salon because the first thing I did in 1994 when I realized this [ __ ] was powerful was I started the worldwide web
384. 1:12:36artist Consortium cuz I wanted to find all the people that knew [ __ ] anything about the worldwide web there and there weren't
385. 1:12:43any it was a group of people that were curious and optimistic about what was possible with HTML and the AI Salon which if you don't
386. 1:12:59know is there is that Community for AI for generative AI not just AI generative
387. 1:13:16AI the birth of what this group is about was November 30th 2022 the first meeting of this group was December 7th 2022 7 days after chat GPT
388. 1:13:31launched because the thing I learned in 1994 is the most important thing if you're at the beginning of a transformative technology
389. 1:13:46movement is be in the conversation be building be looking at it be paying attention to it be hang in out with
390. 1:13:56people that are trying to figure this [ __ ] out that's what this Channel's about that's what the AI salon's about that's what I'm
391. 1:14:10about cuz this isn't about any individual technology it's not about [Music]
392. 1:14:26it's not about courses and [Music] workshops at this stage of the industry none of that stuff is relevant other
393. 1:14:35than if the workshop can get you the confidence to feel like you can jump in great but you don't need those
394. 1:14:43workshops what you need is a sense of curiosity what you need is a sense of passion a sense of playfulness a sense of empathy a sense of
395. 1:14:57Bravery that's what this group's [Music] about I've been doing these lives every night for 18
396. 1:15:13months you know I recently started taking weekends off so I've been doing it five nights a week recently after the first year [Music] and
397. 1:15:26[Music] I I kind of stupidly grateful for AI learning lav and AI Salon learning and growing moments that make me smile oh that's
398. 1:15:40awesome um I didn't start this with any kind of a plan I still don't have a plan which as I'm watching other people that
399. 1:15:54are doing this coming up with their monetization plans I'm like maybe I should monetize something at some point um but [Music]
400. 1:16:08that's that's not that's not what this is about at all like even even if I ended up monetizing something like
401. 1:16:15everything right now feels temporary everything you learn is temporary everything you think you have mastered
402. 1:16:21is temporary the thing that you think is the most brilliant thing you've ever seen in the history of things will become a feature that they
403. 1:16:30give away for free 6 months from now and that's how it was with the with the worldwide web like every like all the
404. 1:16:37Innovations like I remember the day we we figured out how to how to make a banner ad that had animation in
405. 1:16:45it and then flash came out and then we could actually do full we could do interactive games inside a banner it was
406. 1:16:51super cool we were innovating the [ __ ] out of things we invented when we first started building websites the center tag did not apply to
407. 1:17:06images you know how sometimes I'm in here and I'm like hey chat GPT uh could we please have a search box to search for our [ __ ] prompt
408. 1:17:17history you [ __ ] morons please I was like that with why doesn't the center tag center images so we invented a
409. 1:17:27series of pixel High transparent images that we could scooch pictures over in a web page because they were always left
410. 1:17:34aligned and so we invented a whole system to scooch images to the center of the page it was [ __ ] brilliant and
411. 1:17:43necessary and completely useless as soon as they fixed the fact that the center tag didn't work on images that's where we are with
412. 1:17:53AI and that's why the first step that we talk about in the AI Salon in your AI literacy journey is play play first don't feel like you have
413. 1:18:04to learn it don't feel like you have to master it don't feel like you have to [ __ ] do prompt engineering for [ __ ]
414. 1:18:13sake like if you're passionate about structure and coding and you want to learn prompt engineering cuz you [ __ ]
415. 1:18:22love that great but but it's been kind of positioned like if you don't learn prompt engineering you can't do
416. 1:18:29AI that's not true and that's getting less and less true as these tools get smarter and smarter you're not going to need to know prompt
417. 1:18:39engineering you can choose to use it can make you more powerful you can build really wicked cool applications if you're good at [Music]

424. 1:19:47you have passion for stuff maybe you love making images maybe you love making music maybe you love doing red sheets
425. 1:19:55with chat GPT Incorporated in them I don't [ __ ] know it doesn't [ __ ] matter learn it all learn one thing just play play play play
426. 1:20:07play so anyway that's what this Channel's about so while I was rambling some of the Irregulars some of the mods in the
427. 1:20:21Irregulars um took what I was talking about and brand who's who's a mod in here um built a custom GPT about early
428. 1:20:30days of New York City so so I don't know what he built but let's go look at it and okay so here's the other thing so
429. 1:20:38if you go here and you sign up for the for the salon um let me I'm I'm going to go show you let's go talk about the salon because it's it's
430. 1:20:49important very very slight differences between AI apps yeah Firefly exactly the the apps right now are getting better
431. 1:20:57and better and better and the differences between them are quite subtle and the only way that you can learn those subtleties is to just play
432. 1:21:05like you can't there's no manual and there's no and there's no this Tool's better than that tool it's like
433. 1:21:11depending on your use case they all might be good but you know you got to learn that [ __ ] okay I want to come back to that
434. 1:21:20too um let's go to the AI salon so when you come to the AI Salon um here's the uh whatever you call it the menu right so down the left hand
435. 1:21:37side these are all the different spaces first one you land on it's called Welcome to the salon you can read about what we're
436. 1:21:44about and this is the AI literacy Journey that that we espouse in the salon and it's it's funny this journey is
437. 1:22:01um it's just an articulation of what was already happening here oh yeah and this is Free by the way thank you Gavin
438. 1:22:12um what we found what what we realized is that people that were coming into the there was something about the salon that
439. 1:22:19was different there's lots of AI groups out there but most of them are about the technology or or they about the coding
440. 1:22:25or they're about the the different models or about open source whatever and and there was something about the salon that there was a joy to
441. 1:22:33it but people were getting really interesting [ __ ] done and then there was also this thing happening where people in this
442. 1:22:40community like even ones that were super anxious about public speaking or like to be in the background we're kind of stepping up and
443. 1:22:53sharing what they learned and leading there was there there was this generosity in people's willingness this bravery in people's willingness
444. 1:23:02to help each other out support each other and so these three things are an articulation of that play first
445. 1:23:09mindfully create generously lead so we've got that written out you can look at that and then these are the values so these are the values of
446. 1:23:17of how this group is naturally evolved that it's a group full of people that are curious that are playful like imagine being in a place
447. 1:23:28where when some new technology comes out that's going to totally blow up some previous technology rather than going oh
448. 1:23:36crap now I got to learn a new thing this group's like oh cool we get something new to play with there's a playfulness there's a joy in the
449. 1:23:46Curiosity there's also a thing happens in this community that I've seen very rarely is community are funny because you know
450. 1:23:56when they start out everyone's new and everyone's a novice and what's happened over 18 months that we've been doing this is
451. 1:24:05there's a lot of people in the AI Salon that I would argue are like you know top class in terms of AI strategy AI
452. 1:24:13implementation you know using generative AI to do amazing things and so when new people come into the community they don't get made fun of
453. 1:24:23they don't get ignored like the people that show up are like hey welcome come on in let us let us give you a
454. 1:24:33hand bravery this is a group that's willing to just [ __ ] step up and do it or willing to say all right I'm going
455. 1:24:40to go tell my boss he needs to do something about Ai and I want him to make me the AI are and they go do it and then they
456. 1:24:48are and then there's this generosity thing or this is a group that you know like the mods and and The Irregular that
457. 1:24:54show up here night after night after night become like this amazingly generous group that support me and support each other and support new
458. 1:25:02people and when trolls come in and try to be dicks they're like they treat them with empathy unless they're total dicks and
459. 1:25:12then out the door they go but that doesn't happen very much because when you enter a group that's got this level of compassion and
460. 1:25:23generosity it and Clarity there's not a lot of room for people to come in and just [ __ ] with it which is really really special so so

522. 1:37:13disruption in the workplace um but what what that narrative misses is what these tools are also doing which they're allowing people who
523. 1:37:28embrace them and use them to get a leg up and and upskill what they can do dramatically and there are going to be
524. 1:37:41jobs in the future that we can't even imagine today because as these tools take over tasks what I will argue is this AI is
525. 1:37:51going to absolutely start to do the tasks that we do the jobs will change right what is a job a job is a collection of
526. 1:38:04tasks that someone pays you to do because you have the skill to do those tasks well what happens when AI does those
527. 1:38:14tasks well then you do something else it doesn't mean you don't work there it doesn't mean you don't have a job or you
528. 1:38:20don't even have that job but what it does mean is that job transforms dramatically so maybe you become you shift from becoming a tactical
529. 1:38:30copywriter to more like an editor more like a curator curating the best stuff out of what these machines are producing
530. 1:38:49so it's when we hit these lulls like one of the one of the things that I've noticed on Twitter in the past 3 months is that guys like Gary

563. 1:44:30got to do something and they just fired Sam Alman and then Greg Brock Brockman retired and all that happy horse
564. 1:44:38[ __ ] the rumor was that it was this qar thing this reasoning engine qar is a reasoning engine that sits on top of the
565. 1:44:47large language model so you've got your large language model you got chat GPT sitting on top of that and now you've
566. 1:44:52got this reasoning engine that'll sit in between those two where the large language model is going to produce some
567. 1:44:59content and the reasoning engine is going to basically say hey is it any good or not did we get it right and
568. 1:45:05it'll iterate on it before it presents it to you is the the sort of base level understanding there's probably way more to it to that than I
569. 1:45:15know but that's basically what it is the code name is strawberry which is a troll um to Elon Musk which is kind of fun
