36. 8:13like the notebook LM podcast maker but you can make your own characters and things like that all right so we'll be
37. 8:21we'll be doing that I would argue it's better than a than it's 410 preview beta yeah I I would agree with that yeah open Ai and their naming
38. 8:35conventions bad all these companies what are they doing what are they doing with their product names I'm on the wrong

51. 11:54the simplest form absolutely absolutely okay I might this will make this will make the Irregulars happy I might break
52. 12:09out the box metaphor yeah bonus I just got from my producer bonus points if I use a box so I might I might use a box
53. 12:18but I'm gonna I'm GNA start at a at a high level and then I'll kind of work my way more specific okay ai's been around for years okay
54. 12:33artificial intelligence machine learning for the most part for the past 30 or 40 years when people refer to Ai and machine
55. 12:41learning they're talking about specialized Ai and gener generally what it looked like was you would take very
56. 12:50specific data sets like how to play chess in the case of big blue with IBM or or how to read a chest x-ray or how
57. 12:58to look at skin for lesions or something like that you would bring your very specific data to data scientists and
58. 13:06then they would train an AI model on that very specific thing it was not user friendly in fact you really had to be an engineer or a
59. 13:19researcher or a scientist to be able to do it you had to understand things like weights and embeddings and just all sorts of things that
60. 13:29for those of us that are not I have a degree in acting uh for for those of us that that do not like digging deep into
61. 13:37that stuff it really wasn't for us and and you know this was something like I'm geeky I love technical [ __ ] but I also know where my
62. 13:46boundaries are right I'm not good at coding I have ADD I just can't [ __ ] pay attention to it for that long it
63. 13:51just doesn't work so I know that boundary but I'm really curious about it so for years I would always say like oh
64. 13:59I'm going to learn it and and Google would come out with something and they're like Oho there's a new version
65. 14:03of tensorflow and it's much easier and I would go in and I would try to learn what tensor flow was and it would start
66. 14:09talking about weights and embeddings and mathematical it was just [ __ ] exhausting I'm like no it's still not
67. 14:16for me and then about three years ago I stumbled onto stable diffusion image generation and and so that was where you
68. 14:26put in a prompt and it would make an image and I started learning about that and I started experimenting with that and and
69. 14:35the generative part of generative AI is that it's actually generating something so in the case of chat GPT or a large
70. 14:42language model like Claude um when you put in a prompt it generates a a wholly original response to your
71. 14:54prompt so so it's generating and one of the big misconceptions about it is that people think it's copying and
72. 15:02pasting so the way they train these things is they basically went out and they got all the data on the internet
73. 15:07that they could get and they did this special thing to it and they put it in there and so when people give it a
74. 15:12prompt and and some thing comes out that looks like something they've seen before they're like oh it's copying and pasting
75. 15:19but it's not copying and pasting so the way it works I don't do I want to do that one well let me let me walk you through the
76. 15:32three letters of GPT chat [Music] GPT the T we can get rid of first the T stands for Transformer Transformer is the
77. 15:45technology the the kind of uh tool that allows this thing to be trained on data it was invented in 2017 by Google it
78. 15:56doesn't really [ __ ] matter like it it matter a lot technically but it doesn't really matter for you want wanting to
79. 16:02know what gener generative AI is the G and the P are actually really important so the P so GPT generative pre-trained
80. 16:12Transformer the Transformer is the technology that's just telling us what kind of tool it is the p is really
81. 16:20important so remember I said before you had these specialized AIS where someone would come with all their data and they
82. 16:26would say like I want to do a x-ray reading AI here's my data let's train it and it's just going to do that one task
83. 16:33really well the p stand the P stands for pre-trained and what it means is it's been that they've gone out they in the
84. 16:42case of open AI went out they scraped the internet they captured as much crap as they could public websites
85. 16:51Wikipedia uh uh probably stuff they shouldn't have been scraping whatever they they went out and they just got all of the
86. 17:01stuff and the way it works it's actually really fascinating it it takes all of the documents that that you know like a paper that someone
87. 17:11wrote about butterflies and a and a website that talks about storyvine my company they went out they got all the
88. 17:18things right and the way the Transformer works is that it takes all of the individual words in a document and it
89. 17:26breaks them into these little things called tokens and this is it's [ __ ] freaky the way it works they basically turn those
90. 17:34tokens into numbers and they they sort of figure out how they're all related to one another from a meaning standpoint
91. 17:40from a semantic standpoint and then they turn it into numbers and stick it into thousand dimensional mathematical space
92. 17:47it's just [ __ ] weird it's bizarre you don't need to know it but basically sitting up in this thousand dimensional
93. 17:53cloud of tokens are just a bunch of numbers when you type a PR into chat GPT it converts that prompt into a
94. 18:03probability that some token somewhere in mathematical space is the next most likely fragment to be the correct answer
95. 18:14that you know the beginning of the correct answer and then it takes that one and it figures out the probability
96. 18:19for the next one and the next one and it strings all these things together and they turn into words and we read them
97. 18:26but it doesn't know what it's read like the original docents cease to exist so the pre-trained means they basically
98. 18:33took all of what they could get their hands on of the internet and they and they jammed it into this Super Hyper efficient mathematical
99. 18:48box it's got a thousand dimensions in it this one only has three the real one has thousands of dimensions okay cool awesome
100. 19:03um and so when you when you ask a prompt of chat GPT it goes into this What's called the latent space and it figures
101. 19:11out the probability and brings the thing out so that's the P you don't have to bring your own data you can just ask and it kind of knows
102. 19:19everything the G is the generative part and that's the the the generative is it's generating original content every
103. 19:28every single time just because of the nature of how it does it it sort of reaches into this space um it pulls out
104. 19:35what it thinks you want it gives it to you you give it feedback it goes back in it gets some more stuff out so
105. 19:42um the difference between generative Ai and um something like Google what Google did was Google went out on the internet and
106. 19:55it indexed everything it went out and it said okay this web page is about butterflies this web page is about
107. 20:02storyvine so when someone searches for butterflies I'm going to rank this one Higher Than Story vine right there's all
108. 20:09sorts of math they did to it but what they indexed was just metadata information about each website what generative AI does is it
109. 20:21actually takes the content of everything that they put in it and it ingests all that and so you're actually
110. 20:29it's the closest thing I can think of of what it is is it's kind of like if you took every Museum and every library in
111. 20:38the world and took all of the everything you could possibly learn and experience in all the museums and all of
112. 20:46the libraries of the world and just have instant access to that knowledge that's essentially what it is it's instant
113. 20:55access to knowledge where Google was instant access to information information about knowledge generative AI is instant access to
114. 21:07knowledge and people will argue with me on that and they'll say well it's not actually knowledge because you've still
115. 21:12got it no no it's knowledge you can ask chat gbt to write a computer program for you and it will and it will function
116. 21:22right that's not you're you're not learning to program it's program in for you so you get to tap into that knowledge okay
117. 21:32I read progression to Super intelligence agents they will complete tasks first through text then through voice then
118. 21:39through our phones we'll be replaced with glasses and neural blood brain implants fun yeah good good party good

121. 22:09you please explain operators and can you also explain jelly potting while you're at it so I'm not lost yes jelly pod um yeah so so maybe
122. 22:20we'll bring up Pearson uh to the live so Pearson is the CEO of jelly pod he's he's out here in the audience somewhere
123. 22:27so we can bring him up if you want to do that Brandon yeah t t Pearson up and then and then we'll bring him up um but
124. 22:35let me ask answer the first question about operators okay um right now right now if you want to use chat GPT you have to go to chat
125. 22:46GPT and and you have to give it a prompt right it's it's a it's a human initiated um interaction I go there I want to
126. 22:57write a poem about golden buttons and I say I want to write a poem about a golden button that says this
127. 23:05when I push it push it and it will write that poem for you about a week and a half ago chat GPT launched a thing called tasks and what
128. 23:15tasks is is you can take that same prompt and you can have it execute it every day at the same time you can
129. 23:23schedule prompts so this is sort of the first step toward operators um which which I'll get to in a second but tasks
130. 23:32is sort of a little mini Taste of of automation that's about to come um and so I did one that every morning uh I've got a a custom GPT
131. 23:44called Sin City sipper and every morning um chat GPT sends me a cocktail recipe with a picture of that drink I don't
132. 23:54really drink all that much so I don't know why I'm doing that but I like I love the pictures of the drinks that
133. 23:58does I used to bartend um and that's like every morning that shows up in my inbox an operator takes it one step
134. 24:06further and not only can It execute a a task at a regular time it can actually go out and perform actions on its own so
135. 24:16you can give an operator a goal like for example you might have an operator that you've given permission to go to these
136. 24:23three travel websites or these 10 travel websites and and you've also given it permission to to make purchases on your
137. 24:32behalf and then you just say to the operatori want you to go out every day and find me the best um flight right to
138. 24:42go to Cancun in the next two months and it will go out and it'll search all the things and it'll come back to you and it
139. 24:48can even ask you questions and then modify Its Behavior so it might come back and say hey I found some tickets
140. 24:56for $500 is is that price okay you're like no I want tickets under $200 okay great and then it'll go off and do that so it's
141. 25:06autonomous um behavior that you initiate but then it goes off and does things on its own and checks back in with you
142. 25:14think of it like an employee a good way to think of it by the end of this year I'm pretty confident about
143. 25:21this we will effectively have employees at our disposal and those employees are going to be as good or better than most people at most
144. 25:35jobs which if you're not freaked out yet you could be now now would be a good time to start freaking out um all right beautiful
145. 25:51[Music] okay is it possible to build an AI that can take a person's body measurements closed from their picks um there there
146. 26:00have been attempts at that there's a lot of the new there there are a couple of new image generation tools where you can you can take a uh I
147. 26:11think I can't remember which ones do it now there's one where you can take a piece of clothing and a person and it'll
148. 26:17put that clothing on the person um doing things like measuring someone's Dimensions from just a photograph a single photograph um
149. 26:27there's probably things that attempt to do that I would argue they're probably not all that accurate is an operator the
150. 26:33same as an agent an operator is open ai's name for autonomous agents so yes n has a body scan that does that okay there you [Music]

152. 27:05me let me walk you through a couple of things while we're waiting for Pearson to come up um okay first thing you should do if

159. 28:10understand what AI is none of that's important right now the most important thing right now is a sense of curiosity and ideally a hyper
160. 28:22curiosity get curious about these to tools and start playing with them okay um so the the sort of path to AI
161. 28:32Readiness from from a salon standpoint is play first just start playing with tools we're going to play with jelly pod

176. 30:44can see it can hear it can do um data analysis it can code it's Bonkers so a thing that you could do if you're trying
177. 30:54to figure out this AI stuff is just go play and dig deep into what these tools can actually do um Pearson how's it

179. 31:09don't have a ton of guests so I'll probably be a crappy interviewer but oh no worries at all this is super last minute so I was I was
180. 31:17making a dinner and I was like oh I hopped right on I'd love to talk oh that's awesome that's awesome so so
181. 31:22there's there's kind of there's been a running joke here so I don't know if you know I I think Brandon told you a little
182. 31:27bit about the about the the channel here I go live five nights a week and and just generally you know shoot the [ __ ]
183. 31:33about AI things like that and so so he's been talking about jelly pod for a while so for the for the first week we were
184. 31:41gonna do it and one of the nicknames of the channel is chat add where I just I you know I rarely finish a sentence and
185. 31:47and never really get to anything so I didn't get to jelly pod the first week then Brandon was out the second week and
186. 31:52I said we'll get to it then and now we're we're Wednesday of this week we still haven't gotten to it yet so I
187. 31:58promised everyone last night we're going to get to jelly pod so the fact that you showed up is awesome so so tell me about
188. 32:04like what's your background um talk to us about what jelly pot is and like you know why did you do it and sort of how
189. 32:10far into it are you like how how new is this thing I assume it's pretty new but I'm I'm I'm really cool about it
190. 32:16absolutely yeah so um jelly pod we we launched jelly pod about two and a half months ago in a private beta um and for
191. 32:25the audience um jelly pod like chat PT just said it's a AI podcast studio and it really helps people um take a lot of
192. 32:35information like Source material whether that's PowerPoints text uh Excel spreadsheets YouTube videos and helps
193. 32:42you create a AI generated podcast from that material but Guided by uh you so you're always in the driver seat and so
194. 32:51what this is kind of something we call a human in the loop creation where a lot of tools you give it something and gives
195. 32:58you something back and you don't have that iterative approach to being able to refine and have confidence in those
196. 33:04outputs and so um that's kind of what jelly pot is you give it a lot of stuff you guide The Narrative and then you get
197. 33:11a podcast that you're able to edit the text uh publish to Spotify it's a hosting provider as well and um you get
198. 33:19like your ideas out into the wild hopefully within like 15 minutes um of having that podcast idea so yeah that's kind of what it is and
199. 33:30that's beautiful so can I ask was it was it inspired by notebook LM were you already in production when this came
200. 33:36like where's the where where's the the lineage of this thing what what was the absolutely so actually to give you a
201. 33:43little bit backstory the jelly pod that we know today this AI podcast studio uh came out of a previous product that we
202. 33:52had um which was a mobile app that allowed people to create personalized podcasts from Source material so was a
203. 34:00mobile app on your phone and every morning at whatever time you you chose you'd get a personalized podcast based
204. 34:07on your email newsletters and other stuff um and we we realized that a lot of people are taking that content and
205. 34:13republishing it onto their their platforms and so we took that insight and decided to Pivot over to this to
206. 34:21make it really a full-fledged creation platform um that uh that anybody could use and publish podcasts and really
207. 34:29share their ideas and their stories with the world easily um so that was that started about a year ago so when
208. 34:37notebook LM came out it was a pretty cool Tailwind where people actually found that hey I can actually listen to
209. 34:45two AI hosts talk back and forth um they actually sound pretty good and so when that came out it we were already in a
210. 34:52private beta for this and that our weight list exploded overnight which was pretty cool that's awesome yeah that's
211. 34:59awesome well it's funny notebook LM had been out for a year and nobody really cared about it the people that loved it
212. 35:04loved it but then they put in that feature and it was just there was something about it about that particular
213. 35:09technology that that um they had in-house at Google that they used what and if you can't share this that's fine
214. 35:16but I'm just curious what what enabling Tech are you using on the back end here is it is it 11 Labs what's the what's
215. 35:22the stuff what what's the stack that you're using if you're talk about it yeah so constantly evaluating like
216. 35:29different models 11lbs being one of the providers that we we do use um along with like play HT and some other open
217. 35:36source models there and um that's like the voices Google is also one of those um so actually if you're interested if
218. 35:44you're a technical person out there uh you can kind of use the API that Google has um to get those two exact voices
219. 35:52that notebook LM has uh that's cool which is pretty which is pretty cool so we don't use that but um you the thing
220. 35:59you're doing where you can design a host is is actually really slick that's that's that's a super cool feature um yeah that's cool um try to
221. 36:07think what else what's your background yeah uh I'm a tech I'm an engineer so software engineer by trade I I went to undergrad study computer
222. 36:15science at UCLA so go Bruins um and after I graduated I moved up to Seattle where I eventually found my co-founder
223. 36:24um Jason and I worked for Amazon for a few years up in Seattle I was on the Alexa team so I was always really passionate about
224. 36:32artificial intelligence voice and this whole area um and I eventually left to start jelly pod but um I've always kind
225. 36:43of been in this space and I've really always enjoyed Ai and excited about like when Chachi P came out just like
226. 36:50everybody else I think I was stoked it was it was a it was an awesome time yeah that that's super cool super cool and
227. 36:58what about the name we were sort of ribbon ribbing the name a little bit earlier um talk to me about the name
228. 37:03what's the what's the history of it things like that yeah well the easy easy part is definitely the Pod side so like
229. 37:09jelly pod um pod as in podcasts yep and and jelly was kind of like this amorphous thing that kind of flows and
230. 37:18connects a lot of stuff um sticky and it was like the combination of podcasts with like this I don't know jelly that
231. 37:28kind of connects people together so jelly pod as you can say is like a podcast Studio you can create in all
232. 37:34these different languages uh podcasts are a growing medium of communication and telling stories yeah and that was
233. 37:43kind of the jelly part of it um it's also it's kind of interesting it's two syllables jelly pod kind of like people
234. 37:50are like what is jelly pod it sounds kind of weird um so that's why I liked it uh personally so yeah yeah yeah
235. 37:56exactly they they won't forget it right that's awesome right exactly we have a question from from Corey Sandler on Tik
236. 38:03Tok is asking what's the difference between basic and in the paid version yeah so the free free tier uh has
237. 38:11essentially everything that the paid tiers have as well except the paid tiers get um monthly refills of generation
238. 38:18credits so if you're a free user you get a thousand credits one credit equals one second of audio so it's about two minutes
239. 38:28or two 10minute podcasts that you get for free and then then you upgrade for more more audio for more credit exactly
240. 38:38okay cool um one quick question I have do you have the ability to export it as a movie not just as an audio file
241. 38:46yet that's right in front of me right now I'm currently building that so we're we're we're getting that done um that's
242. 38:53the next big release okay and I'll I'll tell you why I ask that is just because I I I find it staggering but on X you
243. 39:02can't upload audio you it has to be in the form of a movie interesting I didn't actually know that it's great to know
244. 39:10exactly I went I did I did a notebook LM podcast and then I went to ask I'm like I'm just going to share this with people
245. 39:16I'm like you can't upload an audio file and you can't it has to be a movie so then I had to go cut an image into it
246. 39:22and things like that so right just for for your uh for your your product specification pleasure there's there's a
247. 39:30nice problem that one will solve totally totally we're super excited to release that so it'll be be out soon and what
