52. 11:27that um like what they were really upset about with AI getting smarter was that AI was going to be smarter than them and and
53. 11:37that that felt like it it it made them feel less than and I think I think this is something we're going to all have to
54. 11:44confront I sort of went through mine with when 01 preview came out I realized that it I didn't know how to ask it to do [Laughter]

56. 12:06oh you know what Vicky you keep doing this thing and I keep forgetting to put it up here on screen so yes thank you

58. 12:24know what do we do when the machines are smarter than us and and Shapiro were response to it and i' I've seen him
59. 12:30write this before but I think it's the first time it really registered with me is in the Industrial Age we replaced our
60. 12:39muscles and our horses muscles with machines and those machines got significantly stronger than we did right we've got tractors and you know
61. 12:52dump trucks that can haul you know hundreds thousands of tons and can lift crazy amounts of things we've got cranes and we've got you know
62. 13:04all this stuff and yeah there are some places where muscles are good but we also have machines that that
63. 13:12are significantly better than we are and and that was a reckoning right there we we went through that process of of that
64. 13:20transition but it's so far in the past now that it's like yeah yeah we have machines well AI is that for your brain
65. 13:31like how cool is it that we have the cognitive equivalent of a back ho that can just [ __ ] reach out into the knowledge
66. 13:43base you know scrape up a bunch of knowledge and drop it in a pile on your lap so if you've got in your head this
67. 13:54idea that you're not enough you're not smart enough you're not educated enough you're not talented [ __ ] it [ __ ]
68. 14:01that lean into this stuff and lean into it like what if I could do anything and especially if you're like my
69. 14:12age 59 I'll be 60 in May 60 [ __ ] years old you think that sounds fun I mean I'm glad to be here

71. 14:45the this is the wrong time to be a skeptic this is the wrong time to let fear lead you right now there's a couple of things
72. 14:55I think are critical one is community I think you need to get your ass in a community with people that are Ai optimists and AI adventurers
73. 15:05that's one there's lot there's a handful of them out there that I think are good I think I'm I'm biased I think the salon

75. 15:23bunch of people in there that are really smart and really good at this say I stuff and they're also humble and generous and
76. 15:39empathetic and they're starting to do some really remarkable things so go do that go join that doesn't cost anything all right so
77. 15:59we're like ants milking an AI aphid we are we are it's exactly what it's like it's exactly what it's like they're also some folks like me
78. 16:16that do two things yeah and there's going to be some folks that like you that do 10 Things I mean I am right now

82. 17:01now I'm a particular kind of guy like when I put my mind to something I'm just like [ __ ] it we're going so if you've got some of that
83. 17:10drive in you if you've got some of that Adventure in you Now's the Time to do it there's I want to I wanted to do something

110. 23:12catchphrase it's instantly recognized as feudal gesture before the disaster the opposite we're keeping busy while
111. 23:19awaiting something good tends to be more diffuse and less pointed so it doesn't lock down as a single iconic phrase
112. 23:31let me see and what does this say about people that we've had more than a hundred years to find some
113. 23:46hope in this insane world we live in and yet we haven't this is more interesting than I thought it was would be I can't believe
114. 23:59there's not a saying I thought well I'm just a dumb Dum that I can't negativity bias psychologically humans are wired to
115. 24:08notice and remember negative events right that's our fight or flight that's our modern anxiety we think we're being

127. 26:3001 pro model private using its computational resources to train a more advanced model like 03 so basically they
128. 26:39used 01 Pro to create synthetic data to create a more powerful version and that's 03 and that's the thing that
129. 26:47we're we're probably going to get 03 mini any day now by the end of the month open AI May believe believe they
130. 26:58have achieved a breakthrough in AI development and are on the path to Super intelligence so this is last year right around this
131. 27:08time ilas sver took off left open Ai and this was you know back whatever it was three months ago a year ago two months
132. 27:23ago uh they tried to fire Sam Alman and ilot was at the head of that line and everyone said what did ilas see
133. 27:36and Ilia left and went and went and started his own company called wait for it you know this you know the answer safe safe super [Music]
134. 27:50intelligence so if they're now starting to talk about whatever's going on there it makes sense that their their head
135. 27:57researcher saw it a year ago um the goal is develop to develop superhuman AI uh there's also efficient to run similar what was accomplished
136. 28:07with Alpha gozero inference time okay so that's that's those are some of the things there are some other posts here all right here's David

143. 29:28we don't need me to explain that we can have David explain it okay when a top researcher at open AI drops a tweet like this you'd better
144. 29:38believe it's worth unpacking Jason's got the inside track on what's cooking in one of the world's Premier AI Labs he's telling us
145. 29:45something fascinating here in pure nerd speak so uh if pate's on here Pate is going to absolutely yell at me because
146. 29:54this is all this is all chat TMZ speculation let's let's break this down for everyone who doesn't speak quantum
147. 30:00mechanics before breakfast that RL optimization bit open AI cracked the code on bootstrapping machine reasoning
148. 30:09think qar and strawberry those strawberry was a code name for the thing that's 01 qar was this sort of game
149. 30:16reasoning engine um think qar and strawberry though that's practically ancient history in AI time now they've
150. 30:25figured out how to make machines teach them elves and they're pushing that capability to its absolute limits now
151. 30:35there's a part of you that's like well that sounds [ __ ] terrifying and there's there's sort of the Sci-Fi
152. 30:40version of this where it absolutely is [ __ ] terrifying but they they the unhackable part um now the unhackable RL
153. 30:49environment is where we have to read between the lines we know that they're using what what they called unaligned
154. 30:54models in this process before anyone sites starts having Skynet nightmares unaligned doesn't mean evil right this
155. 31:03is where some of the Sci-Fi stuff or some of the doomers that they're sort of assuming that these machines have evil
156. 31:11intent they don't it just means AI gets to solve problems without training wheels it's pure problem solving
157. 31:18potential Unleashed okay you can't just let this kind of raw computational power run in the wild they've got it wrapped
158. 31:26in layers of supervis visor models and safety architectures this is something that David knows a lot about it's this
159. 31:32is stuff he's built it's like having your most brilliant but slightly unhinged Engineers you know the type
160. 31:40working in a special lab where they can't accidentally terrify the interns or blow up the building okay so they've
161. 31:46got these little safe sandboxes where they take unaligned Ai and just [ __ ] turn it loose all that computational
162. 31:55horsepower is like a fusion reactor waiting to light up you don't just FL flip a switch and hope for the best you
163. 32:02build containment systems fail safes monitoring but when you get everything lined up just right and hit ignition
164. 32:08pure magic it's like watching those Raptor engines Roar to life on the test stand raw power perfectly controlled
165. 32:15ready to take us to the Stars this isn't just another step forward this is open AI telling us they've built something
166. 32:24extraordinary and this and they're just getting started I mean that's kind of some holy [ __ ] for me you

178. 34:31play AI you know what we do we sit around watching humans playing chess because we now know how [ __ ] hard it
179. 34:39is it it like it ra it elevated the the profile of the game and it gave us a hunger for that authentic experience I
180. 34:47don't I think I think we're going to see that in every single domain where AI you know exceeds our capability there'll be
181. 34:55something that we do is the thing that Ah that's what we really like that's the essence of that thing and AI can go off
182. 35:00and do whatever the [ __ ] it does but back to this thing if you've got in your head I can't do this I can't do that I'm not capable
183. 35:10enough I'm not get curious about Ai and start rearranging the deck chairs on the super [Music]

185. 35:34and send you back a polished version sometimes it's pure magic Wow that's kind of cool polish the videos how like oh like

187. 35:48couple of days ago yeah I I mean so it's that's using um that's using Code interpreter right so it's writing a python
188. 35:58it's probably got access to python libraries it's probably got access to like FFM Peg or something like that
189. 36:04where where it can just go manipulate those files that's that's a cool idea maybe I'll play with that that's super
190. 36:10cool um all right what's going on over here in the Twitter anybody I feel called out yeah listen Daisy May one of
191. 36:18the biggest things we did when we first started the AI Salon one of my missions was so the reason I started the AI Salon is
192. 36:32I was like okay chat GPT represents an interface for AI and machine learning that doesn't require you to be an engineer right it's AI for
193. 36:45the rest of us and when we and and so the AI and it's like that's like
194. 36:5998.5% of people are not Engineers right so it it is the vast majority of human beings are not programmers so while AI was all exciting
195. 37:11for all the years and specialized Ai and vertical Ai and domain specific AI was all all exciting chat jpt is the first
196. 37:18thing that kind of does for AI and machine machine learning what the worldwide web did for the internet you
197. 37:24could like click on it you could click on hyperlinks and jump from server to server that's what chat GPT is for AI
198. 37:31and machine learning you just put in words and it does magical [ __ ] math magical so when we first started the
199. 37:42salon to a person including myself what I noticed was when people introduced themselves or when they presented things they
200. 37:53apologized oh well I'm just a I'm just a you I'm just a lowly storage guy you know Jim Rosser you know you know I you know
201. 38:03I'm just I'm just this I'm just that there was there was all these apologies I'm not the smartest person in the
202. 38:09room and then that person would then proceed to show the rest of us something that blew our [ __ ] minds not because what they did was so
203. 38:21remarkable but because what they did was how they saw the world and how they used Ai and we looked at it and said huh I
204. 38:32never would have thought about using it that way right I remember Corey Sandler's um her custom GPT that made crazy glasses
205. 38:45frames we even talked at one point about maybe we should start a a a a 3D printed custom glasses company or something like
206. 38:53that right based on this gbt it was it was a fun conversation for a bit um don't [ __ ] apologize anymore don't
207. 39:01apologize don't apologize for not knowing enough about AI e even internally don't don't do it just know that we are very very close
208. 39:15like very close to something happening something coming where the capability it's how this is going to go is like this
209. 39:29open AI is going to unleash this thing and then the open AI thing is going to be remarkable and it's listen it's
210. 39:36probably going to be expensive it's probably going to take three years for it to turn real but whatever it's this
211. 39:41thing's coming but what's going to happen is once they release it and other researchers understand what they did just like's happening with
212. 39:50everything else that they've built it's going to be replicated very very quickly so so this stuff's coming really quickly

222. 41:50if you don't know on the week between Christmas and New Year's we did a thing called AI festiv us AI for the rest of
223. 41:56us we had 34 speakers over 24 sessions two days 12 hours each day because we know how to good M make good life
224. 42:05choices and it was just a remarkable event and a lot of people requested can we turn this into a certification or a
225. 42:12training we're actually we we realized that we can't just say certification there are requirements for that but
226. 42:21Cindy [ __ ] is doing research for us right now she she saw what what Vicki produced today and she goes I I think
227. 42:28this qualifies let me do some research so it might be a certification but even if it's not a certification it's going
228. 42:34to be a training what I'm most excited about with it is that it is independent of tools there will be things that you
229. 42:44can do tool wise to you'll learn a lot because a lot of tools were demonstrated but it wasn't primarily what people
230. 42:51talked about and the curriculum that we've put together is training for AI Readiness and so let me pop into the
