41. 10:43I was going to go I was going to go review some of the basics of the of the experience in the AI salon like the journey to AI readiness,
42. 10:54the the AI um five stages of AI adoption or AI acceptance or AI mastery.
43. 11:09Um, I was going to talk about our values and why they're important. And then I was gonna talk about Here's a thing
44. 11:14that's been I did a I did I recorded a podcast today with someone else. I got invited on someone else's podcast. Um,
45. 11:21thanks to Anne Murphy who introduced me to Tim. Tim had me on his podcast. And what struck him about me was my
46. 11:33optimism. And he was like, "Why, you know, why are you so optimistic?" He's like, "Couldn't bad [ __ ]
47. 11:41happen?" And so I was like, "Yeah, bad [ __ ] could happen, but like all of the bad [ __ ] that can happen is completely out of my control,
48. 11:49right? What's in my control is I can I can choose to be curious. I can choose to understand what this AI stuff
49. 12:05is. I can choose to engage with a community of like-minded people who are similarly curious. So, like those are all things I can do and
50. 12:17and but then we dug deeper and and one of the things one of the reasons I'm optimistic is because I get to witness on a daily
51. 12:25basis members of the AI salon reinventing themselves. And very often that reinvention is is is
52. 12:42emotional because it's often like they they told themselves when they were kids that they couldn't do something or they
53. 12:50had a dream that they gave up on and now they've kind of rediscovered a passion for that thing or they've discovered
54. 12:56some new passion in themselves that was latent. You know, we talk about the latent space, this big mathematical
55. 13:02space. Well, humans have latent space, too. It's it's where we jam our emotions. You know, when we start about
56. 13:09five, when we realize that the the world is a dangerous place, we start smashing who we are down into this latent space in our
57. 13:18soul. We're subconscious if you're not soul [Music] friendly. And so one of the things that AI is doing for people is reconnecting
58. 13:34them with things in their latent space that they forgot was even [Music] there. I think that's pretty [ __ ]
59. 13:46amazing. Why would you not be optimistic about something that can do that? So I figured we'd talk about that [ __ ] tonight. [Music]
60. 14:01Good question, Brian. Is there an AI tool website that can do genealogy ancestry research? I don't know. Have you tried chat
61. 14:12GPT or Perplexity? They can do research. Research. You could try Manis. Have Manis dig deep and go find stuff. I
62. 14:22think any genealogy stuff that's behind a payw wall, it won't find. [Music] So, I mean, you could do something like go
63. 14:38into one of the genealogy sites, pay for it, get the names of your family tree, and then go have Manis research the [ __ ]
64. 14:46out of people. That would be kind of cool. Dave Shap had a good talk about 15 bad takes from doomers. Yep, that doesn't surprise
65. 14:59me. I've had good luck with genealogy using chat GBT. Yeah, that doesn't surprise me [Music] either. Mr. Philosophical Nights are the
66. 15:17best. We don't need to learn any crap. I talk a lot about the mind shift needed to work with AI. It's not just about the
67. 15:26tools. Yeah, that's kind of where I was that's where I was thinking, Kelly, that like what is AI readiness and how do we get there?
68. 15:36And I think even for those of us that show up here night after night, just a reminder is not a bad thing because the tools like I feel I
69. 15:48talked about this in one of the meetings, the Cindy [ __ ] meeting. I was in the AI prototyping club in the salon
70. 15:55and like I feel excited about AI again for the first time in like six months. like excited that it it's it's leveled up. Some some things
71. 16:06have leveled up that feel magic again. It's amazing to me how fast we get we get complacent with with the
72. 16:17tools that blew our minds six months ago. [Music] Oh, Family Search is free. It offers AI assisted

105. 25:43Um, here's the thing that's worth talking about, especially if you're new to AI, but even if you're not, I think that there is
106. 25:57a a gravity that pulls people instinctively toward using AI as an efficiency tool.
107. 26:12Right? It'll write emails faster. It'll make marketing plans faster. It'll There's a draw toward efficiency. And here's my theory on
108. 26:23that. I got a theory on it. Or is it a hypothesis, a hypothesis? I don't know. I'll tell you what it is and then you
109. 26:36guys tell me if you think it's a theory or a hypothesis. $30 is a bit much, said the man who paid $200 for chat GBT. Yeah, I
110. 26:53think I'm going to undo my $200 ChatGBT subscription because I don't use 01 Pro all that much and everything else you
111. 27:00can get in the $20 version now. [Music] Um, wait. What was I just talking [Music] about? Oh, efficiency.
112. 27:16Okay. So, the reason I think we we lean toward efficiency with AI. I undid mine today, the day after I
113. 27:25was charged. Yeah, I'm probably going to be in a similar boat. Yeah, whatever. What are you going to do? Um,
114. 27:34okay. For all of my life, so I got my first computer in uh access to my first computer in seventh grade in
115. 27:451977, a Radio Shack TRS80 in my advanced mathematics class. I wasn't I wasn't good at advanced mathematics. It was seventh grade, so it
116. 27:57wasn't that advanced. and it was really just an excuse to get next to the computers. Um, for all of my life up until November 30th,
117. 28:122022, the whole role of computers was to take what we did, the work that we did, and make it more efficient, right?
118. 28:29And you can sort of trace a lot of technologies like that, right? The the calculator made longhand mathematics more
119. 28:39efficient. The spreadsheet made the calculator more efficient. Automations in the spreadsheets made spreadsheets more efficient.
120. 28:50Algorithms made automations more efficient. Right? It's just you just work you're just working your way up the efficiency chain,
121. 28:57but it's making our work more efficient. And AI can do that. AI can act like a computer and make the [ __ ] you do more
122. 29:14efficient. But it it just it feels like that's such a small slice of what this new era is about. Chat GPT. What's the G? The G in GPT is
123. 29:32generative. For the first time in our lives, the computer is generating generating original work. Not our work, its work. We give it
124. 29:45imperatives. We guide it. We prompt it to do the work to generate. But it's not just processing data. It's not just processing our
125. 29:58work. It's making wholly new stuff. And it's doing that in many many many many different disciplines.
126. 30:12And so one of the things that I would encourage you to do is play first. And and what that looks like is if if you're like, I'm learning AI.
127. 30:24I'm going to take my job. I'm going to make it more efficient. And especially if you do what I just did. If you like make that sound more
128. 30:40efficiency, you're probably not a lot of fun at a party. Go play with an AI tool in a way that feels frivolous and
129. 30:56feels not about making your work more efficient. Go have it write a poem. Go have it write a song. Go make a picture
130. 31:05of a dog. Go make a song about a fart. Stuff that is outside of your purview of of excellence. your your your area of
131. 31:18competence and play in the periphery of that. You can still do the efficiency [ __ ] that doesn't I mean yeah
132. 31:26go do that but play in other places and then mindfully create is when you start to learn things in in these areas that
133. 31:35you're not familiar with. Go back to problems that you want to solve that either were problems you couldn't solve before or you didn't have
134. 31:45the bandwidth to solve before, you didn't have the passion to solve before or you didn't think were solvable. And maybe something that you
135. 31:53played with along the way, you now look at that same problem and you're like, "Oh, wait a minute. Maybe I can. I mean,
136. 32:01we just had someone that made a poster for the protests and and was blown away by that. Why? Because she probably isn't good at the making
137. 32:14posters by hand. All right. Or didn't have time for it. And she was over here playing off to the side in the a protest coming up. I
138. 32:25need a sign. Hey, Chat GPT, make me a sign. and it did and it didn't suck. So mindfully create is about taking the problems that you thought
139. 32:38were solvable in a particular way and looking at them fresh again with your newfound knowledge of playing. And then the generous
140. 32:49leadership part is share that [ __ ] Share what you're learning. come on to the AI learning lab and said,
141. 32:57"Hey, I made a sign for a protest." And I'm totally blown away because you know what? Someone else will read that
142. 33:04comment and go, "Wait, you can make a sign for a a protest. How did you do that?" Oh, here I'll show you. So there
143. 33:13you build a friendship. You also establish yourself as a leader. Brandon, what was the what's the company? The CEO just put out the memo
144. 33:24or the thing was leaked. His memo was leaked. Shopify. The CEO of Shopify. There there was a memo that was leaked. And what was in the memo?
145. 33:44They're prioritizing AI forward people in their hiring. I've talked in this channel for two [ __ ] years. Put yourself out
146. 33:58there. Start learning AI. Go play with it. You don't need to be a technician. Just go play. Go play. Start building
147. 34:05[ __ ] and start sharing it out loud. For two years, I've been talking about this. And many people in the salon have
148. 34:13survived layoff rounds because they've been visibly AI literate within their organization. Well, now it's starting to
149. 34:24become apparent that those getting hired better [ __ ] have some [ __ ] on their resume, right? Member of the AI salon
150. 34:38and irregular on the AI learning lab. They don't know what the [ __ ] the AI learning lab is. I made a digital twin. I I made a
151. 34:47custom digital twin. They don't know what that means. How did you make a digital twin? Tell me about that. It's something good to talk
152. 34:56about in an interview. Start putting yourself out there. All right, Gareth. Yes. I got hired for a role because I posted on
153. 35:14LinkedIn. I made this in AI. Some hiring manager is like, "Oh my god, I need to find someone who knows AI." Who's this

155. 35:34And this is not a one-time journey, you know, we call it the journey to AI readiness. This is this is a cycle. It's a
