97. 19:49just [ __ ] checked out of the AI race like I don't know I don't know what they're doing and and why it the the only the only explanation
98. 19:59that I can have well there's a couple one is they just suck as innovators anymore um and you know this is they're more of
99. 20:09a hardware company than a software company even though you know their software runs you know a lot of the world's computers
100. 20:21um I don't I don't know I don't know what's going on with them I don't get it the the thing that that is a possibility with Apple is
101. 20:30they they they tend to they tend to let the market kind of try [ __ ] and [ __ ] it up and then they come in really strong
102. 20:39with oh you guys were trying to do that AI stuff here it is and it's perfect and it's beautiful they ain't doing that
103. 20:47with this time around and I don't get it I don't I don't I don't like it big question how do you feel about elon's
104. 20:53commitments to buying his way to making grock the best AI um I think any company that's trying to make the best AI is buying their way too
105. 21:07it it's like Sam wman raised what $22 billion doll um Elon Musk spent $22 billion on 400,000 h100 gpus and spun up a data center in 16
106. 21:24days and and got the contract uh for the for the new whatever those are called the new I forget the code name for them
107. 21:31but the new chips from Nvidia all the first ones are going to Elon Musk um that's capitalism baby you got the money
108. 21:39go buy the gpus and and fight your way in oh speaking of which um if you go to grock it just says grock it says grock 2
109. 21:54up here um you can turn on our uh this mode but apparently grock is now available to non-paying members of Twitter can anyone confirm
110. 22:06that sudar Sundar Pai from Google says AI is gonna slow down next year your thoughts uh I well okay slowdown is really an interesting
111. 22:19um an interesting characterization of it right now we've got these benchmarks marks right and they're they're these
112. 22:30kind of scientific benchmarks that don't necessarily have anything to do with how people really use AI but we've got these
113. 22:38benchmarks and most of them are getting topped out right most of the benchmarks the all of the large language models are
114. 22:47are you know sort of coming up to 100% you know some are at 70 and 80% for some of the more technical ones but for the
115. 22:55most part they're starting to top out so by definition as you get closer to 100 um the the improvements are going to be
116. 23:07incremental now one of two things happens um the value gain in that last 5% even though the chart isn't going like this
117. 23:21the value gain going from 94% to 99% could be tremendous right the if you think about IQ for for example moving from 120 IQ to
118. 23:34130 IQ is not just like 10 points it's not just like a linear thing like it's a dramatic Improvement and going from 130
119. 23:42to 140 is a dramatic Improvement even though those are incremental gains on that scale but they're dramatic gains
120. 23:50gains in ter terms of the output so that's a possibility is just as as we sort of squeeze out the last performance
121. 23:57the the Improvement curves level off that's that's a possibility there's another possibility and it's possible in
122. 24:06the next 12 days of ship Miss we get gp5 and find out what what the next level is the the the next POS the other
123. 24:16possibility is um Sundar pacai is wrong um the CTO of Microsoft the CEO of um open
124. 24:31AI um ilot suts Andre carpath there's a bunch of very smart people that have a bunch of Technology we don't have access
125. 24:43to that are saying there is no wall the the wall that people are talking about is sort of a compute wall that basically
126. 24:52says if you add more data and you add more compute the the quality of the models goes up you know with it and in theory you can just keep
127. 25:04adding more and it keeps getting better and better and what the what the doomers are saying is nope there's a wall it's
128. 25:09going to come here and then it's going to plateau and it might even it might even decline I don't know I ain't a mathematician
129. 25:19but I think there's lots of ways to spin data and I think one of the ways to spin data is to say oh it's plateauing it
130. 25:28doesn't necessarily mean they're not getting dramatically better dramatically more valuable all right Jason sunno

135. 26:15and a half just in sunno making 150 songs that all sucked and then I got one I kind of liked and then I had to edit the video
136. 26:25together and then I didn't have enough Clips so I had to go back into Luma labs and make more so eight hours to make a
137. 26:34video if if you understand video making from the olden timey days where you actually had to take a camera and go
138. 26:39film [ __ ] or you had to go find stock footage and buy it uh eight hours is is nothing ain't nothing but if your expectation is that
139. 26:50AI just means you push a button and [ __ ] comes out that's just not the way it is with most creative people Lord digital God
140. 26:58racking up the rose gifts thank you very much I appreciate that a guy stated today that open AI was going bankrupt I
141. 27:05have laughed and half panicked there have been rumors of open AI going bankrupt since six months after they
142. 27:13launched chat G PT probably before then um what these guys do it's staggering to me what the the doomers are so [ __ ]
143. 27:24committed to all of these companies failing they'll just take they'll just take something like a single data point
144. 27:31like here's their spend you know here's their current revenue and here's their spend and their spend is going like this
145. 27:37and their revenue is going like this and then at some point these are going to hit and as soon as it crosses over they're going to go
146. 27:43bankrupt well have you ever been in business your costs are going up your revenu is doing this well introduce a
147. 27:54$200 a month product okay now your revenue is going up uh go cut a corporate deal go raise another 10 billion dollar
148. 28:02like you you've got the single the single most successful like like the company that produced the the technology
149. 28:11that was the fastest adoption of technology in history and they're going to go bankrupt you don't think every [ __ ] fund out
150. 28:20there wants to invest in open AI so I I just and but you know what I'm not an economist maybe they are people take great joy in telling me
151. 28:35bad news about AI yeah I know you know hey I I don't know if you know this Kyle um you know what I heard about Ai No what I heard it
152. 28:45hallucinates and and from what I understand hallucination it gets things wrong so it'll tell you things and then
153. 28:53you think it's right but it's actually not right yeah that that's that's how it that's how it works well it's then it's useless

155. 29:15it's a little scary it's a little scary it's like it's taking everyone's jobs it's gonna kill us and I don't know if
156. 29:22you knew this it is the world's greatest plagiarism engine thank goodness our school district has AI detectors none of the students can
157. 29:32cheat what they're not learning the most powerful education tool in the history of humanity but but but they would cheat
158. 29:41with that so we're preventing that so that's why it's a good thing because it's because they because it's evil AI
159. 29:46is evil as you know and it's a plagiarism machine and it steals from artists I don't know if you knew that did you know that what is
160. 29:55that did you see Apple's research paper about AI trying to deceive US future infinitive did a vid vid about it um I
161. 30:06there have been a couple of Apple papers that kind of live in the Doomer in the Doomer space um a paper that AI is trying to deceive
162. 30:25us I can't ah make sure yep maybe I don't [ __ ] know I don't
163. 30:41[ __ ] know I don't talk to analoges about AI oh man all right this is an interesting one
164. 30:56on YouTube from johy one of the issues regarding IC in the future is we don't have enough power and it isn't portable enough to put in
165. 31:07every little thing we have serious power and heat handling issues yes so couple of things going on there's there's two
166. 31:13things going on with AI and power consumption one is absolutely [ __ ] right if you're going to put in you know
167. 31:235 gwatt consuming data centers right Elon Musk wants to be the first person to do a a million GPU data center um
168. 31:35Microsoft just spun up one of the reactors at Three Mile Island I grew up about 20 miles from Three Mile Island I
169. 31:43can tell y all about it I remember the day when we were told we might not be able to leave the school and go
170. 31:50home um so so there's a couple of things going on most power we lose most of our energy because we have to put the nuclear power plants
171. 32:06and the dams way far away from the cities and then we use these long ass transmission lines that are dramatically
172. 32:13inefficient and we lose a lot of the the energy in transmission well data centers don't need to be in cities data centers can be
173. 32:22right next to the plant so I think what you're going to start seeing is either nuclear reactors being spun up or or
174. 32:28data centers being put next to the sources of energy so so one thing is people are aware of it you've got Elon
175. 32:36Musk with a significant voice in government right now very well aware of this issue now what else is Elon Musk
176. 32:45very well aware of the potential of solar the potential of batteries the potential of alternative sources of
177. 32:51energy so so there's there's a whole Lane of energy generation that could improve that way then you've got what's
178. 32:59happening on on the technology side all of these open- Source models that are being put out in the world are
179. 33:06being quantized and made more efficient and made more efficient and made more efficient there are models out there
180. 33:13right now that are that are kind of at chat GPT 3.5 level of quality that are small enough to put on a on a device on
181. 33:20a phone so I think you're going to see increasing there there's a there's a battle right now for models going in
182. 33:29both directions right I want a million GPU data center to make the most powerful AI in the world and I want the
183. 33:37smallest most powerful Ai and then while that's all happening the chip Wars everyone has realized that Nvidia has
184. 33:46eaten their lunch they the entire industry seeded gpus to Nvidia and all of a sudden realizes oh [ __ ] we're
185. 33:55screwed in fact didn't they just fire the the CEO of Intel because they basically [ __ ] up the AI race so
186. 34:01you're going to start to see chips get more specialized on inference which is the the the actual when you when you uh
187. 34:08prompt chat GPT that's called inference so there there are things like grock grq which is a specialized chip and tensors
188. 34:17from Google that are that are these minimal data sets in the chips that are going to use less energy and be better
189. 34:24at inference so there's a difference between training and so anyway way there there are again this is one of those things
190. 34:32where I think the doomers look at energy um demand going like this and and they're assuming that the world
191. 34:43stays static and I don't think the world's going to stay static I think we're going to see increased energy
192. 34:49production and I think we're going to see decreased um energy requirements from from models and chips as we get
193. 34:56more and more specialized Hardware um someone just came out with an optical chip that takes almost no energy and is incredibly fast
194. 35:08um I just heard yesterday that I think in Japan or South Korea someone created a carbon 14 Diamond battery that you know Carbon 14 dating
195. 35:24where they can tell how old a rock is by doing Carbon 14 dating because of the Decay someone built a battery based on
196. 35:31that that is going to last 5,000 years so so AI as these AI get more capable people are gonna start um people are gonna start uh just
197. 35:48getting better and better at energy production and at some point they're going to solve fusion and we'll all have
198. 35:54a little box in our backyard that can power our whole neighborhood or our whole block and we'll get to use it just
199. 36:01for oursel and have our own little 17 GPU supercomputer um let's go look at some more some more action all
200. 36:12right plus we have a declining working population AI is going to save us from ourselves I yeah it it's going to be
201. 36:20fascinating that as AI automates a lot of the jobs that are kind of the soul sucking crushing repetitive jobs that make people
202. 36:33miserable everyone's going to be freaked out because they don't have jobs but it's gonna there's going to be new jobs
203. 36:38created we can't imagine right now and like there's I feel like there's going to be a very painful three to five year
204. 36:44period but on the other side of it there's going to be all sorts of new jobs that are just completely different
205. 36:50than what we have now that we can't even imagine and that's going to be wild if we can survive the three to five years which who
206. 36:59knows from Ocean quick question how can companies combine the experience of longtime workers with the new skills of
207. 37:07AI and GPT experts is it possible to have them work together side by side so great question the I mean the answer
208. 37:16is yes but the answer is yes but the people with deep expertise need to be willing to get AI literate okay so what's going to happen is this
209. 37:32AI is going to get more and more and more capable and me without knowing math or physics I'm going to be able to do
210. 37:39math and physics at a at a pretty high level what I can do with math and physics is going to be laughably bad
211. 37:50compared to what a physicist whose AI literate can do with the same exact tool right so everyone's going to get democratized
212. 38:00and get better skills but the people that are going to rise above are the people that have domain expertise that
213. 38:06use these AI Tools in ways they could never have imagined to do things they've always wanted to do right people got
214. 38:14into physics because they had a dream about unlocking energy or understanding the universe or whatever it might be and
215. 38:21then you hit walls along the way computational walls and algorithmic walls and educational walls and novel idea
216. 38:30walls well AI is going to open all those doors I could probably step through one of those doors or two but someone with
217. 38:39deep expertise in that area is going to walk through a hundred doors so I I think I think um domain expertise
218. 38:48becomes a superpower but not independent of AI and not just like I'm going to work here and then I'm going to work
219. 38:54with AI over here no like really understanding Ai and the people with domain expertise that are sitting on the
220. 39:01sidelines all pissed off like the entire creative Community seems to be committed to right now they're gonna get their ass
221. 39:07handed to them and it it's G to be ugly did you see Nvidia Fato no let me let me go look oh oh I think I did Invidia uh

236. 42:05me is the thing that Google just announced which is looks staggering like staggeringly good uh uh uh

239. 42:57called Skybox blad labs.com it's been around for two years and it's pretty fascinating it you can create these 3D looking worlds
240. 43:06right so this is all super impressive and then I can come in here and I can go um 2072 New York citytimes square with
241. 43:20flying flying cars boom and then it's going to generate that it's going to going to be [ __ ] fantastic you're not
242. 43:29going to believe it you're goingon to be like ah it's so cool seriously it's gonna be really cool it's gonna be super

411. 1:12:59place for where developers go you can with his with as few as like 12 examples of data of a training set you can take
412. 1:13:09an 01 Mini model and have it kind of train itself on your training set and make a custom a custom AI model about your data
413. 1:13:20so the example they showed was identifying what What gene must have mutated based on these symptoms and and
414. 1:13:29they could just train it up they used an example with 1100 pieces of data in it but you can do it with as few as a dozen
415. 1:13:36um and it's simple enough that if you can build a custom GPT like it's in that level of simpleness um you don't have to
416. 1:13:46be super super technical to be able to do it and I think that could be really fascinating if if if you're allowing um
417. 1:13:56let's say you go from in in today's world let's say there's a million developers that can find- tune large
418. 1:14:03language models and by simplifying it and kind of democratizing creating a tool that makes it really easy to do that in an effective
419. 1:14:12way you go from a million people that can find- tune models to 10 million or a 100 million all of a sudden we're going to
420. 1:14:22have all sorts of specialty models that are going to be really incredible so that's what they announced today it's

517. 1:29:47this last night this idea of generously leading um when when I think about leadership I think oh I should be in a leadership
518. 1:30:02position and I should you know learn things and then lead people down the path that I have discovered right that's
519. 1:30:08like leadership as I traditionally think of it one of the things that this community has taught me is that when you're willing to ask a
520. 1:30:17question what you do is you create space for someone else to step into it and Lead so never feel like you have to
521. 1:30:24apologize for asking questions um the question of how do you talk to people about AI um that maybe resistant to it
522. 1:30:35maybe angry about it as you said are like well this is the way we've always done things I don't have a great recipe but
523. 1:30:43what I can I can tell you what I know doesn't work what doesn't work is you trying to tell them they should try AI
524. 1:30:54it's like it's like trying to tell a seven-year-old they should eat their peas and like no I don't want to eat my
525. 1:31:00Peas I want ice cream I want ice cream um the only way that I know to do it is to First listen to them you know go to the empathy piece
526. 1:31:16understand what is it what is it that you're resistant to with AI what are you afraid of what are you angry about just you know
527. 1:31:27get just understand where they are and and have empathy for that and then um and then if you know them
528. 1:31:44well offer them an opportunity to play right so so get in a conversation with them where you're not you're not
529. 1:31:52like I want to convert you to AI get in a conversation where you understand what they're afraid of and you understand
530. 1:31:59what they're trying to do in their life and oh if that's how you did things can I show you something cool maybe we
531. 1:32:03should you want to experiment with something right now and then you pull up chat GPT and you're just like this might
532. 1:32:08not work but let's try something and then you you say you know oh you you run a bar here Kelly Camp did this once
533. 1:32:15Source camp in here um where where she was in in a bar and and the the the owner of the bar was like I AI I
534. 1:32:24AI what what what what could I do with AI I got a bar and she goes well let's let's try something here and I don't even knew if
535. 1:32:32she knew this would work she took a picture of the bottles behind the bar and said to chat GPT make an inventory
536. 1:32:41list of all of my bottles and any bottle that's a third empty or you know a third two-thirds empty put a put a mark beside them that
537. 1:32:51we need to reorder that and chat PT did it and the guy's face melted off his skull right there on the bar and then
538. 1:33:00she had to ask chat GPT how do you clean up a face that fell in a bar that that didn't go as well but but like that was
539. 1:33:08a moment where it was completely relevant to him and she listened to him being frustrated with I don't know I
540. 1:33:15can't I'm a bartender I don't got anything to do with AI and she sat with that she didn't say well you should
541. 1:33:24right you can do that but but you know give give people the opportunity to to to you know vent their frustration and
542. 1:33:33their fear Danielle I always make an image right in front of them I'll ask them about something they like oh that's
543. 1:33:39a good one yeah and boom yeah or make a song the songs are amazing people can't believe the songs do what they do um

569. 1:39:36really did have to be a mathematician you really did benefit from going to MIT or having a Stanford level big
570. 1:39:43brain and so I think when people hear AI you know they think movie AI the robots are going to kill us and they think like I can't do
571. 1:39:54that and even recently you hear people say things like you got to become a prompt engineer you got to learn prompt
572. 1:40:01engineering if you don't learn prompt engineering you're going to be a loser in AI or not come to Deco here and just sit back
573. 1:40:14put your hands on your head and watch art being made that you like and any one of these you can go huh
574. 1:40:26that's cool and I can save it or I could create a station from this zero prompting zero you have to know it exists how do
575. 1:40:39you know it exists you hang out at a place like this you play you you go on X and you pay attention to people that are
