Mathematicians RESIST AI Progress: History REPEATS ITSELF!

1. 0:02Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence Advisory Group, from which OpenAI claims to derive its legitimacy, began its
2. 0:08initial advisory statement by saying that leading AI companies should not test advanced mathematical problems on their
3. 0:17internal models. By ignoring the basic premise of the Advisory Group’s position, OpenAI has shown a complete disregard for the
4. 0:24standards of scientific research. This statement simply means: Don't change anything. We don't want to solve these
5. 0:40problems that we have been trying to solve for decades. We don't want to resolve it too quickly. We will remain committed to it. This is the
6. 0:47same argument that artists, musicians, and writers have put forward. It is now just a different category. And this will continue. Every time
7. 1:00artificial intelligence takes over a part of an existing industry, we will face this type of reaction. But what I find striking is that it
8. 1:08contradicts history . It's as if this simply means we don't want technological progress. Technological progress has never stopped.
9. 1:18No one stopped him from complaining about the steam engine, you know, from continuing to do manual work. Yes, calculators, who needs them?
