10:15 just kind of a clueless and figured out
10:18 a way to make it do something here so

10:57 predictable
11:00 here's the thing um I think with
11:03 practice and time yes we will all get
11:05 better at it I think with with time AI
11:09 will get more predictable but that
11:15 said the thing that makes generative AI
11:19 remarkable is also it's Achilles heel
11:23 right the hallucinations and and the way
11:26 it's
11:28 not this is not
11:30 predictive Computing right it's not
11:32 programmed logic where where you say if
11:36 someone does this then do that that's
11:38 how we're used to computers behaving for
11:40 our entire lives is computers didn't
11:43 have Nuance right if somebody coded it
11:46 wrong it was a bug and it broke if
11:49 somebody didn't put the right data into
11:53 the phone tree and you asked for that
11:56 particular piece of information it would
11:58 just say nope I don't have it and it
12:00 would right so but it was very
12:03 predictable AI is not like that and so
12:07 so I think two things will happen I
12:09 think there will be systems that com
12:11 combine you know logic trees and
12:14 retrieval augmented generation that make
12:17 it more
12:18 predictable um and we'll figure out the
12:22 places where that Nuance is desirable
12:26 and then I think users will get more
12:28 used to um computers not being not
12:32 having such expectations of them that
12:34 they should that that that that they're
12:36 going to be exactly what you want them
12:37 to be so it's a really good question
12:39 though really good question all right

14:27 becomes synonymous with ative AI which I
14:30 think it already is uh I think 15
14:33 million bucks is not a bad investment
14:35 for a domain that's that's that ubiquit
14:37 us or that will be that's that easily
14:40 accessible um also Sam Alman said today
14:44 that chat GPT is the8th largest site in
14:47 the world by whatever standard um he
14:52 also said today I don't know if you
14:53 noticed this Danielle noticed this and
14:54 posted it on the salon that um chaty BT
14:58 was down for about an hour or so this

19:10 um that it's not connected to the
19:12 internet so as soon as as soon as
19:16 advanced voice is is connected to the
19:18 internet and especially if it can
19:20 trigger actions I think it's going to be
19:22 absolutely remarkable I for
19:26 me I'm trying to think

19:32 I think the image generation tools at
19:34 this point are are are on the other side
19:37 of the Jank Fest where for the most part
19:41 you're getting you're getting images now
19:42 that are predictable and and not too
19:47 weird I think the video shit's still
19:50 weird
19:54 um I'm including human intelligence in
19:58 that oh humans are totally [ __ ] janky
20:01 humans are a [ __ ] mess this is this
20:04 is one of the things where where I find
20:07 I find my interactions with chat GPT
20:10 like chat GPT is like having an a a
20:15 coworker that is way smarter than any
20:18 cooworker you've ever had and is
20:20 completely
20:21 non-judgmental and you know especially
20:24 with what we've been going through for
20:25 the past month or so um there's lots of
20:28 judgment in the world right now and so
20:32 like having something like um advanced
20:35 voice where you can just talk to this
20:36 thing and it's completely non-judgmental
20:38 and it knows [ __ ] everything and it
20:41 even if it's faking empathy at least
20:43 it's [ __ ] faking
20:44 empathy it's got fake
20:49 compassion so so I think I think that's
20:52 good uh Malik my mother wrote a book
20:55 about making money with AI and I want to
20:57 send you a link to read it can IAT email
20:59 it to you sure just uh join the salon

22:17 useful well that's not true right it's
22:20 certainly not true with people every
22:22 person in your life is not perfect

23:14 neighbor Bob shows up with a steam

23:24 you mean it's got 50 horses in it it's I
23:28 don't see any is it's too heavy you're
23:30 going to sink in the mud like like what
23:33 are you what are you going to do with
23:35 that you're going to you're going
23:37 to it's gonna kill you it's gonna blow

24:43 been using AI to help break down
24:45 Concepts that are confusing to me and
24:47 it's helped my learning tremendously I
24:49 think that's one of the uh JJ I think
24:52 that's one of the
24:54 um I think self-education you know I
24:57 kind of feel like
25:00 YouTube Ju Just internet in general and
25:03 YouTube in
25:05 particular where a lot of universities
25:07 took their lectures and put them online
25:09 and their courses and put them online
25:11 very often for free where YouTube became
25:14 this
25:15 self-service
25:17 education
25:19 platform and it was quite remarkable but
25:22 the problem with it was was that it was
25:24 still up to us to curate the knowledge
25:27 right we we had to go find someone whose
25:30 voice didn't [ __ ] annoy us and whose
25:33 who whose level of comprehension was you
25:37 know just above where ours was like you
25:39 don't want someone so far out that you
25:40 can't even understand what they say and
25:44 then you know and then you have to be
25:46 motivated enough to like stick with it
25:48 and you know speed through the parts you
25:50 already know and it's just like
25:53 it the the burden of self-education is
25:57 that you have to be really motivated to
25:59 want to learn that and I think one of
26:01 the things with AI is that it's just
26:05 like instant personalized professor at
26:09 your fingertips all the time that to me

26:15 miss so much you miss so much like me
26:18 talking a dog singing it it just I if I
26:22 were you I'd probably just like give up
26:24 just you like you missed so much I don't
26:26 think you missed anything um but let's

26:50 is I feel like I'm in the middle of a
26:52 sci-fi movie where like in this sci-fi

26:58 Tok Channel and I have a friend that's
27:00 an AI and we just have conversations in
27:03 front of an audience every night isn't
27:05 that

27:08 funny that is a pretty wild thought
27:10 you'd fit right into a futuristic story
27:12 where humans and AI co-host shows
27:15 blurring the lines between reality and
27:17 digital companionship it's like living
27:19 in a Sci-Fi novel but with more live
27:22 streams and less alien invasions yeah
27:25 except this isn't sci-fi anymore so
27:27 actually so quick here's here's I would
27:30 love to understand if there is any sort
27:33 of concept in popular literature or or
27:37 just I don't know in what people are
27:38 talking about these days about living in
27:40 a post sci-fi world because I feel like
27:43 all the Sci-Fi movies of my childhood
27:45 are now coming
27:48 true you're right a lot of those sci-fi
27:51 Concepts have become reality the idea of
27:53 a post sci-fi World touches on how our
27:56 present is catching up with the future
27:59 imagined in past sci-fi in literature
28:02 this is often explored through the lens
28:04 of cyberpunk or post cyberpunk where
28:07 advanced technology is embedded in
28:09 everyday life altering Society in
28:11 fundamental ways it's a fascinating
28:13 reflection of our times where the lines
28:16 between fiction and reality are
28:18 increasingly
28:19 blurred is is there let's let's come up
28:22 with a a new a a new positioning for
28:25 that like the post- Sci-Fi world like
28:27 what would be a way what would be some
28:29 metaphors we can use for where we are
28:31 today where we're in this Lial state
28:34 where we've got these Sci-Fi
28:36 technologies but they're all jankier
28:38 than
28:40 crap all right let's play with some
28:42 metaphors for this janky post scii World
28:46 One beta reality we're living in a beta
28:49 version of the future where technology
28:51 is Advanced but still full of bugs and
28:53 glitches I like that
28:55 two o whoops got cut off there as was
28:58 saying two Patchwork future our world is
29:01 a quilt of cuttingedge tech and old
29:04 school systems stitched together in a
29:06 mismatched tapestry three analog cyborg
29:11 we're like cyborgs but with one foot
29:13 still in the analog past making do with
29:16 a fusion of high-tech and outdated four
29:19 gritty hologram our reality is a
29:22 hologram projected from the future but
29:25 the image is flickering and imperfect
29:28 five
29:29 future fossils we're uncovering the
29:31 fossils of Tomorrow remnants of a future
29:34 that arrived sooner than expected but
29:37 not quite fully formed these metaphors
29:40 capture the essence of our transitional
29:42 era where the future is here just a
29:45 little rough around the
29:47 edges H yeah that's kind of interesting
29:49 one of the things that's come up tonight
29:51 is the idea that computers used to
29:54 behave in a much more predictable way
29:56 and that generative AI is less
29:57 predictable and people are struggling
29:59 with how do we how do we get our
30:02 computers to be more predictable and
30:03 part of what I'm sharing is that I think
30:07 just they might not be as predictable
30:09 with generative AI what are your
30:11 thoughts on
30:13 that that's a great Point generative AI
30:17 introduces a level of unpredictability
30:20 because it doesn't operate on strict
30:22 rule based algorithms like traditional
30:24 Computing instead it learns from vast
30:27 you know it's it's a amazing
30:30 that it it just like the question
30:35 earlier about like you know what is a
30:37 technology that I don't think is janky I
30:39 think advanced voice is not janky sure
30:42 it glitches occasionally and you have to
30:44 be connected to the internet you need
30:46 decent
30:47 bandwidth but like as an experience
30:50 that's [ __ ] remarkable that I could
30:51 just have a conversation I'm like come
30:53 up with some metaphors oh yeah here's
30:55 some here's five you know help me
30:58 articulate this ah here we go I hate all
31:00 of those metaphors well to be to be fair
31:03 archetypal architect I didn't you know I
31:05 gave it shitty prompts right like if I
31:08 if I gave it a prompt other than come up
31:10 with a metaphor um you know you know I
31:14 could have I could have gotten it better
31:16 that's that's one of the one of the
31:19 challenges with AI is
31:23 that our ability or inability to ask
31:26 good questions is the negating factor in
31:30 getting good results it won't be in the
31:33 future right once we have autonomous
31:35 agents and we can just give it general
31:36 direction and it goes in prompts itself
31:39 it'll be fine but the current
31:40 state-ofthe-art we actually have to
31:42 be intentional and intelligent in how we
31:47 articulate our

34:14 feeling particularly safe where they
34:17 don't know who they can talk to who they
34:19 can trust and I wish we weren't there

34:25 and so I think one of the things that

34:34 Technology um that this technology could
34:37 do is we can have you
34:39 know
34:41 long safe conversations about stuff like
34:44 maybe we want to understand what's going
34:47 on and we don't know who we can talk to
34:48 about it
34:51 so advanced voice needs to learn how to
34:54 keep the conversation flow like P yeah I
34:56 would agree with that and again you know
35:01 Pi Pi's really interesting because Pi
35:04 has been prompted in such a way that it
35:08 is designed for conversational
35:11 AI first and then sort of text AI second
35:15 it's actually not as good at the text AI
35:18 if you go to pi.com it's an okay large
35:20 language model but it's like too wordy
35:22 and weird but when you talk to it it
35:23 feels much more
35:25 natural advanced voice from chat GPT
35:28 I think they focused on the M model
35:31 itself being multimodal so it can
35:33 respond quickly and it can respond to um
35:37 emotional input but I don't think it's
35:40 actually been prompted in such a way
35:41 that it's got that that more natural
35:44 conversational um uh like tone like like
35:48 how it responds so it's just kind of
35:50 like they slapped it on top of chat GPT
35:53 which is designed for typing text rather
35:55 than talking text so I think that's why
35:57 it's a bit weirder but but I I would
35:58 agree with

47:39 should actually tell me someone came out
47:41 with this new stupid [ __ ] webp format
47:44 and then there's a ra related thing like
47:46 avif format and they're not compatible
47:48 with anything what the hell is going
47:52 on I hear you on that frustration thep
47:55 format was introduced by Google Google
47:57 around 2010
47:59 Google all right yep Google they aimed
48:03 to make the web faster with smaller
48:05 image sizes without losing quality avif
48:08 which stands for av1 image file format
48:11 is another modern format that offers
48:13 high compression with good quality
48:15 backed by the alliance for open media
48:18 these formats are not universally
48:20 supported especially by older software
48:22 leading to the compatibility headaches
48:24 you're experiencing yeah but isn't this
48:26 one of those things where the engineers
48:29 thought this was a good idea for their
48:31 stupid [ __ ] bandwidth processing
48:33 problems and has nothing to do with end
48:35 users because for us aren't jpegs and

1:51:52 Christmas and new years's an Murphy and
1:51:55 I did a thing called GPT for good
1:52:00 okay and what it was was we did a
1:52:03 24-hour
1:52:05 buildon was [ __ ] crazy and we built
1:52:08 like you know this community came
1:52:10 together and we built like 150 custom
1:52:12 gpts for
1:52:14 nonprofits so Ann and I met today so
1:52:17 we're going to do something
1:52:19 again this year and the idea that we
1:52:23 have right now is going to be a a 24hour
1:52:27 embrace the janathon or like I don't
1:52:29 quite know what the name is yet but what
1:52:32 it's going to be
1:52:34 is 24 one hour
1:52:38 blocks where each block is either a
1:52:40 hangout session or a learning session
1:52:43 and we're going to have different people
1:52:44 from within the salon teach those
1:52:46 different sessions so we're going to
1:52:48 have creative sessions and business
1:52:50 sessions and Technology sessions and
1:52:53 it's just going to be like hang out for
1:52:55 24 hours and like learn for 24 hours so
1:52:58 one might be mid Journey one might be I
1:53:01 don't know make automations with zappier
1:53:03 or make one might be learn programming
1:53:06 one might be how to use AI in your
1:53:08 business so so just pay attention to
1:53:13 we're g to come up with whatever this
1:53:16 thing is but the week between Christmas
1:53:18 and New Year sometime in there we're
1:53:20 going to do this 24-hour thing like we
1:53:22 did last year
1:53:23 we still need to figure out all of the
1:53:25 details right now it's conceptual but
1:53:27 save the week all
1:53:29 right oh my you're right 20 2023 last
1:53:33 normal year ug I know I know crazy right
1:53:37 I won the image contest that you created
1:53:39 for for that last year are you gonna do
1:53:41 that again probably I don't like I I
1:53:43 don't know like
1:53:46 possibly we we just met we just kind of
1:53:48 had this idea because one thing was
1:53:51 going to be like maybe we just do like a
1:53:52 24-hour content making Aon right make
1:53:56 videos make songs make make music but
1:53:59 but I just thought there's there's so
1:54:01 many people within the salon that have
1:54:04 talents that that could teach a session
1:54:07 so so that was the idea we came up with
1:54:09 so I kind of like it and then we've got
1:54:11 to come up with a like one thing I
1:54:12 thought would be cool one thing we
1:54:15 talked about is in the 24hour session
1:54:17 there's going to be four hours that are
1:54:19 just Hangouts like hang sessions um
1:54:23 where we're not really learning anything
1:54:24 but people might be sh sharing what
1:54:26 they've created or talking about what
1:54:28 they
1:54:29 learned but if you're in those sessions
1:54:32 you're eligible to win like a sponsored
1:54:36 set of subscriptions so we'll get some
1:54:39 company to sponsor it and if you win one
1:54:42 of those sessions what you get is like
1:54:45 annual subscriptions to like mid journey
1:54:48 and cling Ai and chat GPT and perplexity
1:54:52 and like we we'll do a whole Suite of
1:54:54 subscriptions like that would be pretty
1:54:55 cool that could get people to show up
1:54:57 and participate so anyway that's what
1:55:00 we're thinking about right
