60. 13:34dip we can help you accomplish that tonight it's just you know an hour or two of learning some Python Programming setting up a GitHub
61. 13:49repository creating a cursor AI account choosing the difference between you know a react framework or if you
62. 13:58want to go native with swift if you're going to do iOS applications it's going to be really simple we'll get that all
63. 14:05set up make ourselves an artichoke dip recipe I could what they they can just do it in chat GPT

65. 14:34and what I just said sounded like I knew it I knew I had to learn programming you don't you don't you just need to use your words do
66. 14:45you use word good words good good cuz even if you don't my 15-year-old daughter debated a class classmate that said AI is nothing more

68. 15:11works and who have likely never used it that's one of the tropes it's just stealing from artists it hallucinates it
69. 15:20makes mistakes it's not perfect it uses too much energy you know the robots are going to kill us there's a handful of
70. 15:26tropes one of them is it's just Ste in from artists um am I arguing that it wasn't trained on questionable data that
71. 15:40probably includes data from artists and writers no it absolutely was there's absolutely ugliness there however did you know this is a little
72. 15:55known fact in every library in the world are the works of artists that other people can use for
73. 16:16free there there's there's poetry there there's textbooks there's songs there's there's art it's all in there and you can go into
74. 16:31that library and you can go in there every day and you can jam that [ __ ] in your brain and then you can use what's in
75. 16:38your brain come up with new ideas that is exactly what what all these models are doing and in fact they're doing it in in
76. 16:51a not dissimilar way to how our brain does it so there's absolutely a very real argument for you know for the good of
77. 17:00humanity um there are still some you know issues to be solved with copyright and attribution and compensation and things like that
78. 17:11but if you sit on the sidelines judging AI like oh it's just stealing from artists I would never use that well
79. 17:19you're going to get your ass handed to you CU you're not going to know how to use these tools that are going to transform
80. 17:26everything you'll feel better about yourself so what I try not to do on this channel is get into those debates is it good or is it bad it's
81. 17:41Irrelevant in the end it's irrelevant the technolog is not going away it's not going to stop getting better and it's [ __ ] inspiring as
82. 17:54[ __ ] when you use it we happen to live at a time when we're watching the birth of the most powerful human amplification technology in
83. 18:06history that we get to play with and and we're all old enough to
84. 18:22be like the the the incredibly small percentage of humans that will know what it was like in a world before Ai and we'll know what
85. 18:33it's like in a world after AI we're the cusp people but if you're on the sidelines pissing and moaning it's not perfect it
86. 18:46hallucinates I tried it once I was not very impressed I like Google better first of all with that attitude it makes your face look
87. 18:59ugly I see I I have these conversations this is what you look like it's just not pleasant you know what's a more fun expression with
88. 19:15AI have you had your first Kevin mallister moment with AI yet because when you do you don't go back from it well maybe the first one
89. 19:26maybe the first one you're like oh my God I can do that that's amazing then you're like well it was just a it was just a fluke and then you
90. 19:37go home and you try the same thing you're like oh it's really is that good well certainly it doesn't know about
91. 19:49lesser lesser not strategy cro crocheting tell me all you know about less or not strategy crocheting oh my God it knows about that

110. 23:03rhetorical question but it's real question what are students what are students students are large language models that teacher
111. 23:18teachers try to put well organized well-crafted intentional knowledge inside and Along Comes This Thing Called a large language
112. 23:34model that is the most profoundly powerful um knowledge democratization in the history of humanity and teachers are like well why
113. 23:47would I use that uh cuz it's your [ __ ] job [Music]
114. 24:04your students are going to go into a world where they don't have to memorize [ __ ] anymore they're going to go into a
115. 24:10world where they can just ask a machine to write an application for them and it's going to [ __ ] do it learning to memorize
116. 24:23lists just got a lot less valuable in this world as a teacher isn't it your job to prepare your students for the future they are
117. 24:36entering do you know what those students need right now they need you to teach them how to use their minds to think critically
118. 24:45because all the rules are [ __ ] changing God does that piss me off we're not you CH it's okay we've solved it we've got AI detectors
119. 24:59those students won't be cheating anymore we've solved it good yeah Mr K uh yeah you're not even allowed to mention AI in
120. 25:07the classroom okay so that's how we're going to solve it is you're just not going to talk about it all right okay

133. 27:46special permission to use chat GPT and what we're going to do is I'm going to tell you how I teach and then we're going to go to chat gbt
134. 27:57and we're going to see how we might do it differently and then I'm going to have you take my plans and I'm going to have
135. 28:05you use chat GPT and figure out how you might teach differently if you had chat GPT or Claude and maybe one of the kids has
136. 28:14used Claud enough to know that it can code and the kid says why don't you make me an interactive lesson plan dashboard
137. 28:23out of this plan that the teacher just gave us the kid uploads it there and 30 seconds later after watching a
138. 28:31bunch of code get written there's a dashboard with dials and knobs and switches and displays and the kid's like
139. 28:39uh Mrs Johnson yeah Jimmy could this what you mean could could was this would this be good and Mrs Johnson walks over
140. 28:49and looks at the screen and goes oh my God jimy how did did you just make that and Mrs Johnson has a [ __ ] Kevin mallister moment in real

175. 34:55and sixth graders that met every Saturday at a library and the first hour was you walked around the local businesses and you talked to the
176. 35:06owners and you got ideas for things that they need oh I need to revamp my my menu oh I need to come up with a marketing
177. 35:15plan I someone said I need to do something on Facebook I don't know anything about that and then all the

179. 35:34store she she doesn't know how to do her her her math for for running her business but she gave me this thumb
180. 35:45drive with a spreadsheet on it all right let's see what we can do with that then you go back and give [ __ ] to the community

190. 38:08computers came out and everyone said oh they're too expensive why would anyone ever need more than 32 megabytes right all that sort of
191. 38:16[ __ ] they're not powerful enough what would you ever use them for then when the internet came out ah
192. 38:23it's just just you click on a hyperlink it's what is what it doesn't really matter it's just it's overblown
193. 38:29hype it's a hype bubble it's the dot bubble it's not going to do anything a social media what's social
194. 38:40media it's oh just so just people have friends they just have friend circles uh didn't we have that with AOL that's not going to be
195. 38:52anything so Along Comes This thing which is the greatest augmentation to humanity in the history of humanity and educators are
196. 39:03like hold up there we're going to have to actually think about what we're teaching people oh no no no we've got curricula for that

201. 40:19megabytes it weighed like 15 lb 5 megabytes but you had you know 144k floppies so it was pretty remarkable and you could hear it

204. 41:00imagine like working with students collaboratively trying to figure this AI stuff out together even if you just
205. 41:08carve out a weekend club or couple hours a week where you do something in science in this you know in the science
206. 41:19section you learn about how large language models work together it just showed how we are just a little page in the history
207. 41:31of the universe oh yeah yeah yeah so yeah exactly yeah you know the AI is really good at if if you want
208. 41:46to talk about small ideas it'll talk about small ideas if you want to talk about massive ideas it'll talk about
209. 41:53those it's amazing for that kind of stuff that's really cool I remember the card table sized floppy drives when I worked at Walmart yeah
210. 42:04exactly so the technology is going to keep evolving AI is not going away if one of the things you're thinking is well what if AI just goes
211. 42:23away there's too much power there is too much power at stake no one's going to let it go [Music]

216. 43:38internet and we'll make a catalog of it we'll make a searchable index and you know whoever figures out
217. 43:45how to search that index fastest faster better will win and Google won and they became the standard and so they took all of the
218. 43:55information that was available on the internet and they made it instantly accessible by all of us by searching for
219. 44:02it so you want to Learn Python Programming here's 462 pages of Python programming tutorials go learn absolutely
220. 44:19remarkable we're now at a place where they've taken not just the index of where all that stuff was but all of that
221. 44:31stuff and they figure out a way with this Transformer architecture to squash the collective output of humanity that's been uploaded to the
222. 44:46internet into a thing where we've got instant access to the knowledge not the information see we're coming out of the information
223. 44:59age we're moving into the age of knowledge because I can now write an application in python or in react or in
224. 45:10whatever the [ __ ] I want to write it in without ever having to write a line of code so like the knowledge of how to do that is in the
225. 45:25model it doesn't have to be my brain that's [ __ ] remarkable and like all of the knowledge is in there and the models that are
226. 45:35coming apparently the next thing from open AI I think they're calling it GPT next rumored to come out in October is
227. 45:44going to be a 100 times more computationally dense than our current gp4 and gp4 was 100 times more comp computationally dense than
228. 45:59gpt3 so we're that's two ooms for those of you that are non-geeks 100x more powerful is two ooms two orders of
229. 46:14magnitude it's crazy and by the end of 2025 we're going to have another 100x increase and that's the one where miror
230. 46:25moradi who's the CTO of open AI said we will all essentially have PhD level knowledge of anything we want to
231. 46:38know so so we're we're two years out from having a th000 phds at our disposal for anything we want to do and teachers are still going like
232. 46:54it's okay we don't even let them talk about GPT we figured it out I find I find it
233. 47:09mindboggling like pay attention pay attention to what's here when you watch perplexity write you a a well researched article when you watch
234. 47:23Claude with with its artifacts then create you a Frogger game in 30 seconds where you watch it write the code and if
235. 47:30you've ever coded before you can kind of see like what it's doing you're like oh my God like that would have taken me
236. 47:35forever to like just figure out all those all the syntax of those commands much less how to think about it and just
237. 47:42vomits it out and then you play the game ums not ooms please spell it orders of magnitude o MS
238. 47:58order of magnitude I mean that's what I saw on Twitter I'm not a mathematician I I get all my knowledge from Twitter and I still call it
