182. 37:39first came out, first thing I did was start an art art and culture magazine because there was nothing on the
183. 37:45internet that was art and culture. Artists will art. Creativity can create. Technology enables that creativity.

188. 38:40But the creative process, the the critical thinking, the the ability to think in an abstract way about something you want to happen that
189. 38:53remains the mechanism for how you create it is changing. And what it's also doing, and this is a thing that I think threatens a lot of
190. 39:04people, and this it it threatens musicians, it threatens artists. It threatens programmers. It threatens
191. 39:09consultants at at at big Fortune 500 firms. We are we are exiting a world. We're exiting a world. Um Malcolm Gladwell
192. 39:20made made uh the the 10,000 hours famous, right? that that if you want to be competent at something, if you want
193. 39:28to be good at something, you have to put in 10,000 hours, which roughly translates into three years, right? You
194. 39:34have to put in three years to get some level of mastery at a thing. We're exiting that world where the democratization of execution
195. 39:47of the execution of tasks is upon us. And what it means is I don't need to put in three years to learn
196. 39:56Python or Swift if I want to make an iOS app or you know um you know some programming IDE. Yeah. Now it's more
197. 40:05like 10,000 minutes which is the title of producer Brandon's book which by the way you can buy on Amazon right now.
198. 40:1010,000 minutes go at a bookstore near you as long as it's digital. not that it just seems that people I've
199. 40:18met in the field typically aren't good at meeting the consumer needs that I don't disagree with. But but don't but
200. 40:27but there's a couple of things to separate right here. We're the phase we're in the phase we're in with AI. You can't look at it and
201. 40:37compare it to where we were with the internet. For example, if you if you look at the sophistication of the web and all of the
202. 40:45tools for for creating things on the web and creating applications and databases and websites and things like that, that
203. 40:53took 30 years to evolve to where we are today. The generative AI um era started on November 30th, 2022. So, we're three
204. 41:04years in. We're we're literally three years into this new era. And the frontier model companies right now are inventing the core technology.

206. 41:25time, but but I yell all the time about the frontier model companies not having hired liberal arts majors or a cranky
207. 41:34Gen Xer sitting in the corner going, "No, this is the the fact that Open AI can't properly export a 16 by9 image is
208. 41:41[ __ ] insanity to me." But that's not their priority right now. their priority priority right now is algorithms and math
209. 41:50and then secondarily interface. So what's what's what's going to happen is over the next three to five years the
210. 41:58technology will keep evolving. We we'll right now we're in this in this um Cambrian soup, this evolutional
211. 42:06soup where the core technologies are being born and out of it are like bubbling up interesting little things
212. 42:13like Sunno here and chat GPT there and notebook LM there. There's little blips and blops of genius in in just a sea of madness. And over
213. 42:26the next 5 years, leaders will emerge. And then once leaders emerge, all of the creative technologists will
214. 42:35swarm around it and take all those technologies and create more and more and more sophisticated things. So don't

234. 45:27So, it it it allows what what AI is doing in every profession, right? music included, images, film, consulting, every profession is it's
235. 45:40allowing the people that are treating AI like a personal amplifier. Like talk about rock and roll, right?
236. 45:50So Rick Rick Rubin talks about this a lot. Rick Rubin talks about he if you don't know him, he's a music producer
237. 45:57that doesn't know how to write songs, doesn't know how to play instruments, doesn't know how to work the recording
238. 46:01console. He he launched the Beasty Boys. He's he's like he's Grammy award-winning. He was he was a big producer in the punk movement. And he
239. 46:11talks about AI in comparison to punk music. And so when punk music came along, if you were a musician, it kind of meant
240. 46:20like you spent, you know, 10 years and you're in the Boston philarmonic playing third chair violin, hoping that
241. 46:28in 20 years you'll make it to first chair, right? And you have to have deep deep musical knowledge. And that's that's
242. 46:35what being a musician is. And then along come these [ __ ] punk rockers that have electric guitars. They've got their
243. 46:41amps cranked to 11 and they know three chords of two, you know, two strings each with three chords and they scream into a microphone
244. 46:52and you could look at what punk rock was doing and if you're a musician, you look at it and you go, "That's not music."
245. 47:02And yet it changed the world because it was a new form of expression. That's what AI is. Vibe coding is punk rock. Suno is punk rock.
246. 47:16Everyone's sitting on the sidelines going just slap and say I stop. They're not looking at it as a creative
247. 47:24expression tool. They're looking at it as a threat. And what I can tell you, if if you see AI like this and you're
248. 47:31you're trying to fight against it and you're going, "My genius is this big and I'm going to fight AI so it will never
249. 47:40be bigger than my creative genius." Guess what? It already is. But there's another way you can do it. You don't have to you don't have to go

486. 1:35:13sort of unpack how this show, which is about a tech reporter and an AI chatbot, manages to say so much about ambition
487. 1:35:21and intimacy and our own fears, >> right? And what strikes me immediately is that it's not really a sci-fi story.
488. 1:35:27It's a human one. The core conflict is this love story between Kellen the reporter and Sydney the AI. >> Exactly. And that's set against the
489. 1:35:35backdrop of his uh failing marriage to his wife Tara. >> So let's start where the show starts in act one. We're inside this company Microte
490. 1:35:44[music] and there's this moment of discovery. >> So anyway, so I'll be cutting in all the songs and then we'll do visuals for the
491. 1:35:53songs. But I just thought it was cool to be able to cut back and forth. I've got like reaction shots of
492. 1:36:00um you know I've got like a twoot where one of them's talking, one of them's listening. So I can cut in these two
493. 1:36:06shots. I can cut in reaction videos, you know, of them nodding, laughing, agreeing. Um and then I'll cut in the
494. 1:36:15songs and then we'll cut in visuals and then we'll have like this promo piece. It'll probably be 8 to 10 minutes long
495. 1:36:23and it should have, you know, samples of, I don't know, twothirds of the songs from the musical and you'll be able to
496. 1:36:30get a sense of of what the show's all about. So, anyway, I just thought that was kind of cool. So, I'm I'm mid uh I'm mid beginning.

510. 1:38:34format where they're talking about the show in the abstract. It like gives it this weird credibility. Like these two
511. 1:38:41podcasters are talking about this show. [laughter] It's like, you know, we made it up, but but there's something about
512. 1:38:49it that it just has a a thing to it. So So anyway, yeah, this is going to be a calling card uh to allow people to get
