31. 7:49Futures put together by lab five Futures Cindy [ __ ] she was the instigator and today we launched a GPT for the book and it's it's really
32. 8:04cool um and it I like I've been thinking a lot lately about as these tools become more capable and more integrated in what we
33. 8:20do you know do you do you redefine things like what is a book does it make sense to read a book linearly some some it
34. 8:35does if you have linear narrative but if you've got an anthology of seven different chapters that while they follow an
35. 8:44arc you could read them in any order and then the other thing that we did with this GPT was we did we designed
36. 8:52a set of structured interviews oh lab five future Futures is here syndic is here inst Ator present we did we designed a set of uh
37. 9:05well no we designed a single interview like 20 questions some of the questions were about the author and some of the
38. 9:13questions were about Ai and the future and thoughts on the future so we took the transcripts of all those
39. 9:20interviews and we uploaded those so we've got the the full book as a knowledge base and then we've got a
40. 9:27little mini bio for from each author and then we've got this interview from each author all of that's in the knowledge base and so the
41. 9:38the the GPT you can explore what the book is you can explore you can have chats with the authors it's cool it's pretty slick I'll show it to
42. 9:48[Music] you and you know as I was building it it's funny as as uh because the GPT store sucked and because
43. 10:04only paying members could use gpts before it kind of chilled me on using them but now that chat GPT 4 Omni is going to be available to
44. 10:19everyone and gpts are going to be available to everyone um I'm kind of excited about gpts again posted in video Guild great thanks

61. 14:25issues that it's like causing browsers to flake out and I've noticed my um my i chrome didn't used to crash a lot but it crashes a lot

75. 16:55left so apparently we're going full steam ahead toward AGI Damn the Torpedoes as they say um I don't know if that's all been
76. 17:11confirmed but that was sort of the the Scuttle butt I saw today only thing you can do is refresh the screen as chat GPT 4 locks up a fair
77. 17:23a bit yeah that's what I noticed is that it it like like the screen a load but like gpts aren't there and then if I
78. 17:32dick around with it they'll show up eventually so yeah I think I think there's some I think they got some some cleaning up to do on the
79. 17:40old on the old memory um I'm trying to think where we want to start tonight oh another thing that I'll talk about um
80. 17:47Jared pus our our fine Governor here in the state of Colorado signed that shitty AI bill into law tonight well into it's
81. 17:55it's not it doesn't take effect until 2026 and and he and he signed it with a signing statement that basically said
82. 18:03this needs some work work on it over the next two years let's make sure we get this thing to not suck before it goes
83. 18:10into law or before the federal government does something to preempt it so that's disappointing um because it it it really
84. 18:20is a steam and pile of [ __ ] Bill and it it would have been better to start over but whatever it's signed now so um so I
85. 18:28suppose when the session goes back into session in I think it's November some [ __ ] like that they'll probably call us
86. 18:37up again and go hey you guys were a little cranky about this you got any ideas let's go ahead and make it better shall
87. 18:50we I'm too cynical for politics I don't like it cuz I knew they were going to sign it I knew they were going to pass
88. 18:58it when I talked to the guy that the the Senate Majority Leader I got a chance to talk to him when when we
89. 19:05testified look ao's wife I'm using my coasters um I talked to him after we testified and he you know he basically said
90. 19:17yeah we kind of got our asses handed to us with the data privacy stuff and we were way late to the party and we still
91. 19:23haven't passed anything on that so we're going to do something so see like is it me you shouldn't be passing
92. 19:38laws just cuz you want to go first right right but again what man does not understand he fears what he fears he
93. 19:51destroys yeah well see if it you you know what's funny wind rider if it were that if if he were if he were like AI is evil
94. 20:03and we're going to we're going to protect the people from this evil thing I I I would have more respect for the
95. 20:11decision because at least then it's coming from a place of a clear point of view might be misinformed but it's at
96. 20:18least a clear point of view this was really more just like yeah I know it's not perfect but we'll we'll we'll
97. 20:24stretch the the effective date out a couple of years and you can amend it that doesn't sound like it should be a law does
98. 20:38it seems like seems like it just it's just it's just a law that says AI on it and it says AI consumer protection anti-bias there's like all
99. 20:49the buzzwords all the buzzwords are right there in the title of it the details of it it's not important we'll fix that over the next two
100. 20:57years so it's disappointing but what are you going to do all right make a governor GPT P based on Kyle's knowledge

143. 27:48we do some in here we'll do some real storytelling that are going to be doing good things um but it's going to be it's
144. 27:55it here's the deal with with all creative tools and all creative outputs 90% of it is drek 90% 8% of the 10% is
145. 28:12decent 2% is really good well no 1.5% is really good and like 05% of any creative output is actually the [ __ ] that you know is
146. 28:23good and breaks through the noise and that's that's how it's always been and it's how it will always be no matter what the tools
147. 28:31are so someone's going to end up being like the best AI music producer in all of the land and they're going to be
148. 28:37[ __ ] badass and they may or may not have been a musician before right it's just like Hip-Hop Hip-Hop was a it's just a totally different
149. 28:48discipline and you know musicians before that were like that's not real music you're just looping loops and samp and they bitched and
150. 29:02moaned and now it's the hip hoppers that are bitching and moaning about the AI music it's it's all just Cycles people

169. 32:22model free to everyone the other reason it's relevant is in about 2 or 3 weeks they're also going to release um their new voice
170. 32:34component where you talk to these things and it's literally like liter literally like the movie her so if you haven't seen the movie her
171. 32:46I think it came out in 2018 or something like that 2014 it's the one where Walkin Phoenix falls in love with this chat bot named
172. 32:58Samantha Scarlett Johansson scarjo baby and actually I saw I saw a Tik Tok today that someone um compared the
173. 33:10Scarlet Johansson Samantha voice with what what open AI demoed it's identical it's it's identical but anyway they made
174. 33:20that so so what does that mean what it means is the these tools are going to get incredibly intuitive this whole idea of having to
175. 33:30learn prompt engineering and learn prompting and things like that I think that that if if you want to do that
176. 33:37there's going to be plenty of places you can do that um but these tools are going to get very very intuitive and and very
177. 33:45fluid and there's going to be very little friction between you and these incredibly powerful tools so yes I think
178. 33:54what they announced today is incredibly important I'm checking
179. 34:12now 3D object synthesis oh interesting what's this thing is that
180. 34:27the link all right dang it I still have to do my her homework my Herm work you do you really do you seriously
181. 34:44if you haven't seen the movie her recently you should see it because a the technolog is here not coming here it's just not been launched
182. 34:56yet um and Sam wman has said that you know that movie was incredibly prophetic about the kind of issues that it raises and the
183. 35:07kind of how people are using computers in that movie he he says he sees that's how it's going to be um and that it's very inspirational
184. 35:17to the team that that built the thing that they announced on Monday um so if you want to see what's coming and if you want
185. 35:26to it's it's weird to watch a science fiction movie that was fullon science fiction just a few years ago knowing that we're living in that
186. 35:38reality right now it's it's weird it's weird it's it's it's creepy okay um so there's a couple other things

193. 36:32um large language models here's a bunch of image creation tools um video creation tools Music Creation tools all
194. 36:41of them especially once you get into the multimedia stuff any anything that's sort of time based and and even the
195. 36:47images to a degree all of these tools have very different personalities and one of the things I've been thinking
196. 36:53about a lot lately is I may love a tool like Deco here this tool that has this thing now called stations where you don't have to
197. 37:06prompt it it just every second generates an image and it's just like this NeverEnding Cascade of images you don't have to prompted at
198. 37:18alloo bloop blop right I may love this you may go to this and go well I've got no control I [ __ ] hate this I want I want you know
199. 37:30like if I pick that image and I'm like o create a station now out of that image and now it's just going to create
200. 37:36a whole new set of images based on this image as the starting seed oh that's cool like let's do oh steampunk lamps let's go see a bunch of
201. 37:49those that's super cool someone else may be very into something like Leonardo oh excuse me Leo

206. 38:46um right and so someone else is going to love this because they're they're going to love the control and the ability to
207. 38:52do all that crazy [ __ ] so okay chat GPT 4.0 or chat 40 yes um yeah let me talk about
208. 39:07that so so the tools are getting there's a lot of them oh let me go let me sorry I got distracted from where I
209. 39:17was talking about the AI Salon okay so within the AI salon so you should introduce yourself check out the AI Launchpad and
210. 39:25tools um there's water cooler discussion there's a news section there's an ask for help if you want to ask for help you
211. 39:31can do that there's a showand tell area for people to show off you know specific multimedia stuff and then there's guilds
212. 39:37and so the guilds are little subcommunities um led by different people so everyone's doing sort of focused play in Creative
213. 39:46areas business areas tech tech guilds and social impact guilds and then way down here at the bottom is a community
214. 39:54club called a AI learning lab regulars that's us so we have our own little area and let's see where did Silver Fox
215. 40:04so so Silver Fox put a simple LTX YouTube tutorial and why we put an LTX tutorial in there is the other night we all went um and we crashed
216. 40:21their server when they were given out a bunch of licenses and we got like 30 or 40 Irregulars LTX licenses so so if you got one of those LTX

682. 2:06:01or not tech support I think customer service call centers are going to be absolutely decimated if you look at here's the
683. 2:06:11deal the the chat Bots that with the current technology where there's like two to five second latency between when
684. 2:06:19you ask a question and when it gets answered that's not acceptable for customer service the [ __ ] that open AI
685. 2:06:25is demoing with this third of a second response time that's plenty fast like that's fine and so I think I think customer
686. 2:06:34service call centers are going to be effectively obliterated if if the uh the data to answer the questions if
687. 2:06:47they can get it to work where it's using like rag retrieval augmented generation where it's pulling actual answers from
688. 2:06:56an answer database but it's using you know large language models to make it sound good um I I think they're just
689. 2:07:04going to obliterate that whole industry but it's it's not there yet they're not the the tech isn't quite there yet but
690. 2:07:09that that one's due for a massive shakeup I like the call center video where the guy asked the AI for historical essay and it delivered yeah
691. 2:07:18exactly that that's the thing is they've got to they've got to figure out how to navigate um there's a there's a person in the AI

693. 2:07:39their their personal health insurance so they could call up this system or no it was it was it's a chatbot it's a chatbot
694. 2:07:47system so it wasn't voice but an employee could log in say you know what's my healthc care coverage is this
695. 2:07:54covered right and so it had to figure out what coverage they were on understand what all the you know what was covered what
696. 2:08:02wasn't have stock answers in it and not get anything wrong like it can't get it wrong and so she created this whole
697. 2:08:10sophisticated system that had you know stock answers and then the large language model would make it conversational and then um there were
698. 2:08:22all sorts of rules about if the employee goes off the rails here's how you handle that so there's a lot of work to do

720. 2:11:54here yeah I'm G to show you how chat GPT works if you don't know how chat GPT Works here's how it
721. 2:12:10works couple of things you need to know GPT if you don't know what GPT stands for stands for generative pre-trained Transformer
722. 2:12:22the generative means it's generating original work it's not copying and pasting it's one of the biggest misconceptions about all of
723. 2:12:33these tools whether they're music ones or word ones is that they are copying and pasting from existing documents it's
724. 2:12:40not how it works these systems were absolutely trained on all sorts of information including copywritten information absolutely 100% yes
725. 2:12:52the actual documents themselves once they get embedded into these systems actually cease to exist they they the individual words
726. 2:13:02within the documents that they were trained on turn into what are called vectors mathematical points in
727. 2:13:08space in math they're they're points in mathematical space thousand dimensional mathematical space so anyway the the G
728. 2:13:18the generative part means it's generating so everything that's generated is actually original um sort of word by word and
729. 2:13:27I'll I'll show you how it works in a second when you understand how these things work it is actually [ __ ]
730. 2:13:33remarkable that they work at all much less what they do pre-trained means they've been pre-trained in this case in the case of
731. 2:13:43open Ai and Claude and all of the big large language models they've been pre-trained on as much of the public
732. 2:13:50internet as these companies could get their hands on so they went out and they would scrape as much of the internet as
733. 2:13:56they could and then they would get human beings to tag all these documents and you know get them into formats that that
734. 2:14:03these things could understand and then they would embed them and then the T in GPT stands for Transformer that's the
735. 2:14:11technology so 2017 Google invents this thing called the transformer in a paper called attention is all you need so 2017
736. 2:14:20is the seminal moment where the core technology that all of this magical [ __ ] we're using was sort of born from it sprung
737. 2:14:29from that and what the Transformer allowed is that you could you could throw massive amounts of data and massive amounts of compute power at
738. 2:14:39these models and they would work better the more crap you threw at them um and so the Transformer is just the
739. 2:14:47technology so generative it's making [ __ ] from pre-trained data you don't have to add your own data it's got as
740. 2:14:54much data as it can handle and then it's doing it in this Transformer architecture so that's GPT um you might
741. 2:15:01hear large language model llm that's just basically what these things are what they're called and then the latent
742. 2:15:07space Laten Space is really important it it it's not important for you to know it but it's just conceptually Laten space
743. 2:15:14is that mathematical space where all these things called tokens exist and tokens this is a a two-dimensional um representation of
744. 2:15:25latent space right so X and Y and then you've got these clusters and these clusters are you know points in mathematical space these
745. 2:15:36vectors and each one of these points represents a token that's tied to a word or a comma or a space or whatever it
746. 2:15:44might be and they're clustered by semantic meaning so you might have the word dog down in this black section here
747. 2:15:51and that means like the fuzzy thing that sings When you play guitar and you like to pet and then up in the green area you
748. 2:15:57might have the word dog and it means he did his girlfriend wrong and and he's a dog right and so so you can have the
749. 2:16:04same words that live in different semantic clusters this is two-dimensional very simplified Vector space the real stuff
750. 2:16:14or latent space the the real latent space is like thousand dimensional like billions and billions if not trillions of points in
751. 2:16:25mathematical space okay so how does this [ __ ] work when you create a prompt that prompt gets converted into a mathematical
752. 2:16:38probability for the next token or the next series of tokens think of it like the next word so so basically
753. 2:16:46what happens is you write a prompt that says the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy blank we know it's dog cuz we've
754. 2:16:53got large language models in our brain and somehow our brains dig into the gray matter and pull out the word dog here's
755. 2:17:01how chat GPT does it you write a prompt and it creates a probability and what it basically says is there's a there's a
756. 2:17:09very high probability that that one of these light blue tokens is is the one that has the highest probability of
757. 2:17:17being the right one and within this cluster of light blue tokens there's one of them that has the highest probability
758. 2:17:24and for the most part what it does is it takes that vector or that token right with with all of these uh mathematical
759. 2:17:35numbers points in space those are associated with the word dog and then it takes the word dog and sticks that in your
760. 2:17:43sentence and it does that over and over and over again so when it writes a whole paragraph for you a whole article it's
761. 2:17:52doing it one word at a time it has zero idea what it actually wrote It's just saying mathematical point this
762. 2:18:02associated with dog Stick Dog here mathematical point that it means cat stick cat here right and this is why they hallucinate
763. 2:18:14this is why when you ask it to give you something you're like hey uh you know you made a mistake there could you fix
764. 2:18:20that it's oh sorry about that let me fix that for you and then it lies again because it what it's not actually doing
765. 2:18:27it's not going back and saying did I get it right qar that you you may have heard of when they fired Sam Waltman there's this
766. 2:18:36thing called qar which is a reasoning engine that does something more akin to did I get it right like am I on the
767. 2:18:44right path to a right an actual correct answer not just a high probability answer but actually the correct answer
768. 2:18:52and that's reasoning and once these things get reasoning then they're going to get really really smart but anyway
769. 2:18:57that's how they work crazy now now let me let me I'm going to show you one other thing okay so where's my box
770. 2:19:12okay okay you got your box so this is this box this is why chat GPT needs a marketing person okay so you got you got GPT
771. 2:19:284 you have chat GPT they also call it chat GPT 4 and now we have chat gp40 I'm G to need another box okay this
772. 2:19:43is gp4 so gp4 is that Laten space gp4 is a box that you take all of the internet you embed it in this special way and you
773. 2:19:55dump all of those tokens into the box all these points and mathematical space get dumped into the box this is kind of this hermetically
774. 2:20:03sealed data set this this is why when you when with with old chat GPT you'd say you know tell me something new and it would say
775. 2:20:13my latest information was September 2021 cuz the box was kind of sealed in September 2021 they've updated it since
776. 2:20:21but it's still this is this this is is is called sort of the Frontier Model this is the the GPT model and it's called right now it's
777. 2:20:31let's just go with GPT 4 is this this is chat GPT it's an application it's when you log into your web browser and you see
778. 2:20:44it's got here's the four questions you could ask and it's got all the your prompt history and it's got the little
779. 2:20:49box that's just a a web app that some web developers wrote that says let people type down here and when they hit
780. 2:20:56the submit button what it does is it does an API call down into the model so it asks for the model this is why this is chat
781. 2:21:07GPT this is Microsoft co-pilot which is also gp4 but it's but they're why are they so different cuz they're different
782. 2:21:18applications the open AI chaty PT is just better than Microsoft's co-pilot cuz they put too many um safety rules in
783. 2:21:28this and so it's a steaming piece of [ __ ] but they're both calling the same underlying model now um ah okay this is
784. 2:21:44gp4 this is GPT Omni GPT 40 it's a completely different model and it's fancier it's got pictures it's got It's got audio and so so so
785. 2:22:00what cat GPT has done we got to get rid of Microsoft here is you're still using the chat GPT app and you can switch to use this model
786. 2:22:15or this model when you switch to use this model it kind of does this except when you ask for pictures it goes out to
787. 2:22:23yet another model to make images so it's not using its full capability all right that's my box explanation there's more boxes
788. 2:22:35now you had to ask right does that answer your question that was a lot I don't you know I I really just kind of wanted to know

790. 2:23:00yeah so yeah so basically it's here here's a way to think about it and and the new voice stuff with the new
791. 2:23:16model actually changes this a bit it doesn't mathematically but it it kind of changes it a bit when people when people ask
792. 2:23:25questions like well are these are these tools sentient like like you know do they have feelings or do they know what they're
793. 2:23:33saying no they're just probability Eng they're literally calculators they just happen to be calculators that are spitting out
794. 2:23:41words um and they're doing it in a in a really sophisticated way but but you know technically what they're doing is
795. 2:23:49just probability token probability token probability token the new model when you talk to it it not only understands the
796. 2:23:59words you're saying it understands how you're saying them because it understands audio so it could understand a dog
797. 2:24:08barking or two different people talking or you're pissed off or you're laughing or you're crying and it's going to be able to
798. 2:24:15respond in kind so they're they're they're getting they're they're going to start the experience of talking to them
799. 2:24:22is going to get increasingly human even though technically they might not be super human a bot in a box where does the data come from so the
800. 2:24:35data comes from the public internet as much of the public internet as they can get they send out scrapers web scrapers so every
801. 2:24:44blog post all the Wikipedia there's probably a fair amount of Nefarious data in there that was pulled off the dark
802. 2:24:51web that they're not supposed to have access to they probably used web scrapers to pull [ __ ] off YouTube and
803. 2:24:58Instagram and I I I promise you I promise you including Adobe Adobe was taking the high horse on this for a while but apparently Adobe
804. 2:25:10has now trained Firefly on Mid Journey images which were trained on copywritten information so I don't think anyone is
805. 2:25:19is pristine in and you know clean here they basically went out and just got as much information as they could embedded
806. 2:25:26it and put it in these tools for us to go play with here's the deal if if any one of these companies if open
807. 2:25:37aai had ever gone to the New York Times four years ago and said hey can we have your permission to use your data to train our
808. 2:25:48model the answer would have been no every single person they would have asked would have said no every single
809. 2:25:54one promise guaranteed you do that we'll sue you or you pay us $100 million well there's a million companies
810. 2:26:02I need to talk to well you pay us $100 million and then you go figure out the rest on your own that's what it would have been the
811. 2:26:09conversation so this is one of those things where you know they're asking for forgiveness and they're trying to cut
812. 2:26:17deals after the fact because none of this technology would exist if they hadn't taken that approach in my opinion so you
813. 2:26:29know and and you know there there's there's a part of me that's like oh well it's you know they're taking you know
814. 2:26:36data and they're you know it's it's you know they're they're profiting off of other people's work it it is it's very different than
815. 2:26:47say sampling from the 80s and '90s when when hip hoppers started sampling music and making hip-hop there they're
816. 2:26:54literally copying and pasting parts of songs that's not the way these tools are working and it's such a vast amount of
817. 2:27:04data that for me this kind of goes into the into the neighborhood of it's kind of like all of the information in a
818. 2:27:13library all of the information in a museum why libraries and museums exist is is so so that Humanity can benefit
819. 2:27:23from the output of humanity so there's absolutely an argument to be said you can you can sort of go down two paths
820. 2:27:30here you can say all work should be protected and no one should be able to use any information without paying people or
821. 2:27:41and this is the output of humanity and being put in these tools that are this powerful benefits all of humanity
822. 2:27:51which is something necessary in the world which one's right I don't know these things exist now the the the only thing that I know
823. 2:28:07that I that that is crystal clear to me is that the intellectual property lawyers are going to make a [ __ ]
824. 2:28:15fortune on both sides everyone's going to be suing everyone for the next 20 30 40 years promise you that that I know for
