31. 7:28of the things I preach preaching here is Learn out Loud talk about this stuff teach other people how to use this stuff
32. 7:36because it will not only help other people it will help you so it looks like Amelio's wife got a gig or at least an
33. 7:45offer I don't know if she took the gig she got an offer because she was generously leading what happens when you generously
34. 7:54lead is that at some point someone goes hey why don't I give you some money to lead like that or whatever it might not even be money
35. 8:02it might just be hey come come do a presentation in front of the VPS or whatever you say it daily too I do I do
36. 8:12and you occasionally show up on time Amelio's wife but I got to say even though you you have a lot of demerits for being
37. 8:22tardy you do make it on a regular if not daily basis yeah I do talk about it daily because that's the most important
38. 8:39thing that's why this channel exists when it comes to this AI stuff even though we're in a weird we're in a weird weird wrinkle
39. 8:52of what I feel is AI Mala where stuff still going on stuffff stuff's still dropping but there's kind of this
40. 9:04weirdness and all of the AI doomers are like see I told you they didn't have anything and then mirror moradi the the
41. 9:11CTO of open AI got on some interview and said yeah we don't really have anything much better than what you're playing
42. 9:18with you think that's true I don't buy that I don't I just don't I just don't I just don't
43. 9:32we're we're playing with a thing well I guess well I don't know like we still don't have we don't we
44. 9:41still don't have real-time voice I don't know what they're I don't know what's holding them up maybe they don't have
45. 9:47anything maybe that's it maybe open AI shot their wad that's it we're done but I just don't I just don't buy it people
46. 9:56you can make money with ch p I sometimes show up on time exactly I've converted four people to chat GPT this
47. 10:05week oh that's cool awesome for me AI is a blessing I think I you know honestly I on China I think that
48. 10:15um my experience with with this stuff is that the people that actually give it a shot the people that actually play first
49. 10:25and just start exploring and figuring this thing out and then start to build stuff with it as they start to learn it
50. 10:32and then start to tell other people about it it is a gift it I I mean it is it's incredibly empowering technology
51. 10:40incredibly empowering interesting how power consumption May limit growth yeah I I I don't disagree Pete
52. 10:48but there's there's all sorts of really interesting things coming right so there could be advances in energy generation
53. 10:58Fusion whatever might be there could be advances in Material Science to make more efficient batteries or more efficient transmission
54. 11:07lines that make energy use more you know uh more efficient so we we can use more of the power we produce so so those
55. 11:18things could happen I also heard a really fascinating thing that I I I've I have never really thought at a core infrastructure
56. 11:29um level before but where the electricity is generated is not where it's used so they generate it at these big
57. 11:43hydroelectric dams and at Coal Fired power plants that are way outside of the city and they make all the electricity
58. 11:51there and then they send it over these very inefficient wires to substations right so there's all this loss in that and where the real
59. 12:04power is used by Ai and machine learning is in the training the inference is pricey but it's not nearly as pricey as the
60. 12:13training so what a lot of these like what elon's talking about creating this gigafactory for data they're going to they're going to start
61. 12:22making these gigafactories right next to the source of the electricity cuz all it has to be is like you know a giant [ __ ] building next
62. 12:33to the electricity you don't need to beam it all the way to the city just to just just to you know burn out the thing so
63. 12:42so there's there's all sorts of infrastructure things that could improve the you know improve the the yield of of even
64. 12:52the electricity that we're already producing but yeah it's wild it's wild that that's the new that's the new
65. 13:01bottleneck so it's just crazy it's crazy people I also saw that George Hots today if you don't know George
66. 13:09Hots George Hots is This brilliant um engineer in San Francisco when he was I think he was 15 he he stripped down an iPhone he was the
67. 13:24first person to stripped out an iPhone outside of apple and and maybe it was the first one to jailbreak it but I think it was the
68. 13:32first one to actually disassemble it and figure out what the [ __ ] was in it um he did that when he was 15 and then he's
69. 13:40done a bunch of really interesting startups and and one of his recent ones was uh what's it called is it
70. 13:47comma forget what it's called but it's basically a self-driving add-on that you can add to you know some specific models of cars
71. 13:59and how was he doing it not with liar he was doing it with cameras right and what uh Elon Musk just went to with full
72. 14:09self-driving is basically the approach that Hots was talking about five or six years ago so he's a pretty brilliant guy so
73. 14:18he's now got a new company called tiny Corp and they're putting together these I think they're called tiny tiny rack
74. 14:29Tiny Box tiny something something something but it's basically a standalone PC that I think has four h100s in it
75. 14:42h100s I don't know some some big ass GPU um so that you can do your own training and it's it's basically an AI
76. 14:51box but he didn't want to use Nvidia chips he wanted to use AMD chips but amd's soft Ware sucks and is basically not usable
77. 15:03it crashes all the time so apparently today he got he wrote some sort of weird ass translator to translate Nvidia math
78. 15:13into AMD chip so you can now use AMD gpus where historically you could only use Nvidia gpus because of the
79. 15:23software bottleneck so that could change things so I I I I don't know I don't know I got got nothing here I got no answers for
80. 15:33you on what the real bottlenecks are the Apple deal is going to be a big step in mainstreaming AI yeah I would agree with
81. 15:40that I would agree with that it looks like this is interesting Apple's payment to open AI for chat GPT being incorporated into iOS
82. 15:5418 is that they give open AI free distribution you're like wait what they're not paying them they're paying them in
83. 16:06distribution but Google pays them I think it's $20 billion a year I think that's right hang on let me go search for
84. 16:17that how much does Google pay Apple to be default search yeah $20
85. 16:31billion so Google pays Apple $20 billion just to be the default search and apple just gave chat gbt default position on any AI That's
86. 16:47fancier than their small models that that that are native to the device or or native to their little they
87. 16:55they've got their device Cloud combo thing there but anything that's fancier than that goes to open Ai and they're
88. 17:01doing that for free so I guess it's kind of like A2 billion investment these companies they're so big man it's like a billion customers
89. 17:16yeah a billion customers are going to get access for free to chat gp4 and then if you pay for it you'll be
90. 17:23able to use all your features so yeah it's pretty big deal pretty big deal [Music] here in Texas we have two electric bills
91. 17:39one for the energy and the other for the delivery of it yep what what do they call it the transport transport fees or
92. 17:46whatever it's called it's got some weird ass name Amelia's wife I love it seems like we're all finally being sought out that's
93. 17:57great do you think a will be sold like electricity or internet data in the near future meaning will will it be sold like a like a utility
94. 18:12um it's possible if at some point see at some point
95. 18:32does does X aai open AI meta apple and thropic do they all keep
96. 18:47competing or does the value of generative AI is it is it so high that the government wants to distribute
97. 19:01it um I don't know I don't know I don't know I can't imagine that these these companies are making any money are 20
98. 19:17bucks a month I mean I think from what I understand open AI makes their money selling API access to corporations our
99. 19:2420 bucks a month I doesn't scratch the surface of what we cost them we are some expensive [Laughter] [ __ ] competition breeds
100. 19:42advancement Y and by distribute you mean regulate like a utility yeah exactly when does the bubble pop so who who or who who
101. 19:57um when does the bub Bubble Pop presumes That We're In a Bubble um I would argue that we're not um having been through this in the in
102. 20:09the in the mid90s with the worldwide web as frothy and excited as people got about the worldwide web in 1995 and 1996 and like half of 1997
103. 20:24um the real Insanity came when the tools got good and the infrastructure got good and I would argue that right now ai is not good
104. 20:36enough and it doesn't have enough penetration that it's got um it doesn't have that kind of frothiness to it yet as as crazy as that
105. 20:51sounds um so I don't think we're in a bubble so it's I just yeah I don't if 47% of people haven't even
106. 21:07heard of chat GPT the party hasn't even started when when so this fall when apple rolls out iOS 18 and a billion people start using Ai
107. 21:23and start using chat GPT and start to get their head around it and that number of 47 never heard of chat GPT drops to 10 five
108. 21:32or 10% and the people that use chat GPT regularly use AI regularly when it goes from like the four or 5% it's at now up to 20 30
109. 21:4740% then you'll start to see a lot more froth you'll start to see a lot more investment and you'll start start to see
110. 21:53a lot of stupid startups get funded at least that's what happened in in the in the worldwide web days so how did you position agency.com
111. 22:03to be primed for the froth well we really didn't we just kept our heads down and did the work but the froth came
112. 22:11so so what it looked like for us is so we started early enough that when we got one Fortune 500 company they told
113. 22:28someone else and then we got a second one and then we got a third one and then we got a fourth one and then we got a
114. 22:34fifth one in about a 3-month period it was [ __ ] Bonkers we got the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue website then we got timing consumer
115. 22:47marketing then we got GTE is telephone company then we got Hitachi then we got American Express student then we got
116. 23:01metti this is all within 3 4 months and then we the night before the pitch for General Electric we backed out
117. 23:11of the pitch because it's like it was like 4 in the morning and I my partner Chan came into my office he
118. 23:19goes hey Kyle could you whip up a little something about the future of the internet for this this ge pitch and I
119. 23:25was like sure and so I start writing it and as I'm writing it what what what pops into my head is if you write this
120. 23:34we're we're going to win we're going to win the account and it wasn't that I was writing anything particularly good it
121. 23:40was just that we were so early that there was really no competition like if you could spell HTML you'd get hired and
122. 23:49we had just won these six major [ __ ] accounts and the the GE thing was a $10 million account so we backed out of it
123. 23:59so I I went back over to Chan's office I said Chan if we if we pitch this we're going to win it and I said we can't
124. 24:05handle it if we win it so we we backed out um Harvard Business School actually wrote a case study on that that decision
125. 24:12that moment so anyway that was the early days super early days was just get the work and then it was just hiring hiring
126. 24:21and growing hiring and growing and and we had some big big pitches and big wins in there like we won um the Bri Bri
127. 24:28Airways account we were the first American company to win the British Airways business for for anything that
128. 24:35big for for a major initiative like that um and all of that stuff was happening before the froth but what what happened was
129. 24:46um kind of in the middle of 1997 so we started agency.com the end of 94 so we had 95 96 90 you know half of
130. 24:5797 so we had like two and a half three years where it was kind of like it is now people in the in the know knew about it
131. 25:09they knew how big a deal it was they knew what was coming and then all of a sudden it just got enough coverage it was on The Today
132. 25:18Show it was on magazines it just sort of rose up into the Zeitgeist enough that everyone started talking about it and
133. 25:26from the middle of 97 to to the end of 99 it was just [ __ ] chaos and there was all this money being dumped in and
134. 25:35all these companies being funded I had in a one Monon period in I think it was 97 like the end fall of 97 in one month I had three
135. 25:51employees walk into my office and quit because their internet they were like out to dinner with someone and they
136. 25:58said oh I've got an idea for an internet company and they said it and their their idea got funded for 10 or 20 million I
137. 26:07had three employees quit because they got funded for either 10 or $20 million that's [ __ ] froth right and that was 97 I mean at 98 you had
138. 26:22pets.com the [ __ ] sock puppet chimpanzee monkey dude and just everyone lost their [ __ ] and and what it was
139. 26:37was there were people coming into the Internet space that only had money and had no idea what the internet was or
140. 26:47what it was about it didn't matter if it was a do we'll fund it and so just a bunch of [ __ ] got funded that should have never been funded
141. 26:58we're not there yet with this AI stuff now you could argue that companies like open AI raising 13 billion or Elon Musk raising $8 billion
142. 27:11on an $18 billion valuation For grock You could argue that that's maybe that's representative of it but there you've got big companies
143. 27:23making big bets that this is going to be infrastructure level you you know competitive Advantage what we're not seeing yet is
144. 27:33stupid companies being funded underneath those Frontier Model companies and I think we will I think we will but I think I think
145. 27:44we've got to have much more penetration than we've got right now nobody [ __ ] knows about this you show up
146. 27:50here you show up to the AI learning lab and we're here nightly talking about holy [ __ ] it's going to change everything woo
147. 28:00have you ever tried to talk about this at a diner nobody cares or Worse they're pissed off about it oh you're doing that AI
148. 28:11stuff my wife's whole art community oh AI [Music] art until that stuff starts to trickle away and you know how you know when that
149. 28:26stuff's going to start to trickle away when iOS 18 comes out and um Sally can take the little picture of her friend

153. 29:06kind of cute I kind of like AI now you know I hated it for the longest time but now I kind of like it you know when we
154. 29:13start seeing that then you know then then I think we'll start to see the froth but did we ain't even begun we ain't

156. 29:31are somehow equating science with you know not religion and logic with whatever I I I'm so exhausted by the anti-science

228. 44:09think that I use wacky voices now I keep it pretty Pro um I keep it pretty Pro uh here here's the deal I think that
229. 44:22um I think the companies right now if they have not at a minimum put together an AI
230. 44:41Council they are tragically missing the boat it's funny I I talked to someone today who runs an agency and he said hey
231. 44:50Kyle a couple of months ago you said I should probably consider shifting away from a time of materials model he goes
232. 45:00yeah I I I think I'm going to need to start shifting away from a time and materials model like how would you
233. 45:04approach that and and like we we talked about it for a bit and and one of the things I told him was and he's got a relatively small
234. 45:14agency it's probably 30 or 40 people maybe maybe 50 and what I said was why don't you take three really smart people and tell
235. 45:25them that you'll pay them for the next next 3 months or 6 months and their job is to figure out how to use AI to put your company out of
236. 45:37business why not have three people within your company figure out how to disrupt your company and and don't interfere don't
237. 45:48micromanage them their only imperative is figure out how to put us out of business attack the business model
238. 45:56attack the product attack the customer base go for it he was like oh that's really interesting because couple of things
239. 46:07happen if they try to do it and AI isn't ready for prime time you've learned that if they try to do it and they're
240. 46:15successful well now you've got your new business model and it's probably a hell of a lot more efficient and a hell of a lot more
241. 46:21profitable um and what will likely happen is is some hybrid between the two where there'll be some things that that
242. 46:28group comes up with that you're like holy [ __ ] we can change our pricing we can change this part of our
243. 46:33product and rather than laying people off and doing the same amount of work why don't we try to retain the staff we
244. 46:40have and do five or 10 or 20 times the work that we've done historically Oh I thought about that with my brother who's a retail genius I

289. 54:10really hard it's mathematicians did it and they they're we got the smartest mathematicians in all the land you
290. 54:17should see our mathematicians they've got some of them have phds some of them have phqs it's the next level up they
291. 54:25got they got all the letters they have every from like a not just PhD ABC D they go they go all the way to Z we got
292. 54:33all the mathematicians they went to Stamford they went to MIT they went to Harvard so that's what we've heard about
293. 54:44we got p in here P's got a PhD he works at the Google why' they hire him because he's good with the maths so for
294. 54:59decades what we've been told is if you want to be good at AI you damn well go to better have a brain big enough to go to Stamford or work at
295. 55:11Google and so I think the reason most people don't care about it is they're like uh I I just run a flower shop over here

353. 1:06:57to make images and the ability to um do more sophisticated charting and graphing with with its data analytics thing
354. 1:07:09um Kyle is staying in character of the open AI people when he continued hang on let me let me okay have I talked about Apple
355. 1:07:19intelligence yet so my thoughts on Apple intelligence okay um the thing that struck strikes me most about the Apple intelligence
356. 1:07:36announcement is that everyone got it [ __ ] wrong that one of the things apple is really good at is not letting their state Secrets
357. 1:07:47leak because everyone had assume that oh Apple hasn't figured out Ai and so they're so open a is going to be behind
358. 1:07:56all of Apple open AI or all of Apple intelligence and it's not the case um what Apple did is focused on small
359. 1:08:09language models not large language models and they focused on small language models for a couple of reasons
360. 1:08:16one so that a lot of the AI processing could be done locally on the device so in order to use the new Apple
361. 1:08:27intelligence you need an M1 or higher Mac or iPad and you need an iPhone 15 Pro or higher 15 is the latest model
362. 1:08:37right so it's like you need and and most people right now are on iPhone 11 to 13 I'm on a 14 of course I'm like one one
363. 1:08:45[ __ ] iteration behind but um so if you want to use the cool new toys you have to buy the cool new hardware which they're a hardware
364. 1:08:57company that makes sense um I'm trying to think where to where to where to talk first they they're focusing on the small language models to
365. 1:09:10do most of the processing that you do with AI you don't need gp4 Omni capabilities to do like if you just want to say
366. 1:09:22hey um let my wife I might be late for dinner it can write a little note that says hey honey I'll be late for dinner
367. 1:09:32and send a text message without having to fire off a really expensive large language model so that's pretty
368. 1:09:44smart then also in typical Apple fashion they're not they're not talking about the technology they're not talking about AI
369. 1:09:57is cool and it's got this many mppa flops and this many Terra twits and it works on tensor flow Apple silicon
370. 1:10:09what they're not talking about the hardware they're talking about what it does for people like one of the one of the ones that struck me
371. 1:10:21was one of the cheesy presenters I feel like their presentation style does deserve the trolling that it's getting cuz it's just
372. 1:10:31it's so game show cheesy but whatever but one of the guys said um you know how when someone sends you something and you can't remember was
373. 1:10:45that an email or was it a text or was it a this yeah apple intelligence you can just say hey I know Jim sent me
374. 1:10:54something on how he used AI music for his storage business it will [ __ ] go it it knows it's got it's got
375. 1:11:04um contextual awareness I think they called it it's got contextual awareness of you and who you are and what you do
376. 1:11:12and it's doing a lot of that processing locally so so the other thing they did was they took privacy really seriously
377. 1:11:21but because it knows about you it can go find the note that Jim sent okay that's [ __ ] brilliant do you know how many
378. 1:11:29times a day I'm like wait was that a slack message where did who sent that did Monique send that or did Lisha send that oh God my head hurts
379. 1:11:38right if nothing else if AI can just take that headache off my out of my day it frees up some brain cells to do
380. 1:11:47other work so I thought that was pretty brilliant um stupid [ __ ] like mimoji people will probably use but kind of forget about
381. 1:11:59like all the other stuff that they use like it'll just become kind of normalized um I think the one thing that
382. 1:12:05they did with the generative images where you can take one of your friends or your family's picture and turn them
383. 1:12:11into a superhero I think that's like Primo like people will use that and they will use Ai and they will talk about it
384. 1:12:20um oh that's so cool that AI stuff's so cool look look at this picture I made of you I put your head on a dog's
385. 1:12:28body right so I think that is going to get some people over the hump um the other thing that they announced is that
386. 1:12:36um on the second day they announced that their three billion parameter model is very close to gp4 benchmarks which is
387. 1:12:501.8 trillion so a significantly smaller model they're getting really good results from so that was impressive and then there you know
388. 1:13:04it funny people kind of mocked them about they talked about this private AI cloud or whatever the [ __ ] it was I
389. 1:13:10forget what they called it and people were like well don't they just call that iCloud no this is a completely different
390. 1:13:20thing it is a it is a private AI inference engine um that what happens is your phone or your device your your Mac or your iPad or your
391. 1:13:32phone when you do something with AI it says can I process it locally on the device and if not then it goes to this
392. 1:13:40private cloud and it only sends whatever inform whatever data it needs to send to be processed in the cloud it doesn't
393. 1:13:48send everything it just sends the the most discret amount of data up to the cloud Apple doesn't have access to the data
394. 1:13:57that goes to the cloud nobody does and it's verifiable by a third party and it's all running on Apple silicon so
395. 1:14:05they've got some very significant technological innovations that they didn't really talk about that are just kind of hidden
396. 1:14:13underneath you know we take privacy seriously and we try to process things locally and if we can't we just send
397. 1:14:20little bits of it up to the cloud we don't have access to it and third parties can verify it so come at us ballsy and really really
398. 1:14:32Innovative um and then the open AI thing is [ __ ] fascinating everyone thought it was going to be Sam mman on
399. 1:14:44stage I thought Sam Alman was going to be on stage you know open AI you know Powers everything Apple because we
400. 1:14:52couldn't get our [ __ ] together nope they just have a system smart enough now to go if I just need to process it
401. 1:15:00locally I'm going to process it locally if I if I need a little more horsepower I go up to this private
402. 1:15:05cloud and then if I determine that it actually makes more sense to send it to chat GPT 4 because I need like a real
403. 1:15:14large language model then it pops up a little dialogue box that says this request is is best used on an out
404. 1:15:23outside system called chat GPT or you cool with that and if you're cool with that then it sends your data over to open
405. 1:15:31aai and open AI claims they're not going to train on any of that data but you know they don't have a good they don't
406. 1:15:38have a good reputation for privacy and consistency on that front so anyway um I think the Apple AI thing is quite
407. 1:15:45significant I think it's the most significant thing they've announced in probably a decade I think the the technology behind
408. 1:15:53Vision Pro was incredibly impressive but I think the big announcement for Vision Pro is the third version of the hardware
409. 1:16:02so I think we've got three more years for that I think this was this was a very substantial announcement and I think it's going to
410. 1:16:13make a huge difference for adoption so anyway hope that answers you hope that answers the question soon better will be available
411. 1:16:24but they started started this left turn a bit late well I don't know Stephen they they apple apple is never a leader
412. 1:16:33what what Apple does is Apple sits back and watches they they did it with smartphones they did it with music players

414. 1:16:55they watched him rename his [ __ ] company after the metaverse they spent 9 years in 5,000 patents making the Vision Pro goggles

418. 1:17:46going to create an entirely new category called spatial Computing and what it's really about is your world like your desk which has a

435. 1:20:28and and it takes actions on your behalf knowing who you are knowing all all all your stuff so Apple launched autonomous
436. 1:20:42agents they didn't call them that they're just like if you want your phone to do [ __ ] you just tell it to do [ __ ] hey Siri suck less

620. 1:54:11typically approach learning a new programming language or technology yeah that's a great question I I think the best way to learn any new
621. 1:54:20technology is to just start using it um starting with small projects and um building up from there um I think I've
622. 1:54:29learned a lot that way hands-on experience is definitely a solid approach it's amazing how quick the response is the third and
623. 1:54:36final go on T sure thing how do you handle tight deadlines or pressure when working on a project I think the key there is um
624. 1:54:47prioritization um you know I think being taking the time upfront to be really clear about what's important and what
625. 1:54:53can wait will make a big difference absolutely prioritizing tasks effectively can make a huge difference
626. 1:55:00under tight deadlines great answers your responses show a solid mix of technical skill and thoughtful approach for
627. 1:55:08feedback I'd say you did an excellent job concisely explaining your experiences and approach just remember
628. 1:55:14to keep your examples as relevant as possible to the job you're applying for anything else you'd like to practice or
629. 1:55:21go over um no I think that's it but any other kind of constructive feedback I want to really make sure I'm ready here
630. 1:55:29wear a nicer shirt you've got a strong foundation and I can see you're thoughtful in your responses just a
631. 1:55:34couple of things to finetune First in your answers try to weave in specific examples that highlight your skills and
632. 1:55:42achievements especially those relevant to the job you're applying for this will make your responses more memorable and
633. 1:55:49impactful second be concise but it's a balancing act but the goal is to givea without overloading the
634. 1:55:58interviewer with information I see I see um anything about my body language did I was was my delivery okay oh your body
635. 1:56:08language was generally positive and engaging you maintained good eye contact and seemed attentive which is great one
636. 1:56:15note though try to avoid touching your face too much it can be distracting and might give off signs of nervousness wow
637. 1:56:22overall you came across as thoughtful and focused which is exactly what you want okay I think I'm ready thank

644. 1:57:46it can hear the tone of your voice getting frustrated so even if you don't say [ __ ] you if you're getting frustrated it's
645. 1:57:55probably going to be skilled at being able to talk you down how is my teasing of AI features that we don't have access to I
646. 1:58:06know I know it's it's so [ __ ] annoying it's like just [ __ ] launch this [ __ ] it's it it is it's it's really
647. 1:58:17annoying what can it give real time advice or answers yeah that's what it was doing so the the new the new real time voice

649. 1:58:38[ __ ] you're talking it's hard to describe the difference in the current model when you talk to it when you put it in voice mode

652. 1:59:05it the new [ __ ] you're actually talking directly into the model and it understands your tone as well as your
