74. 18:01is this is where I think we could have some fun tonight so let me talk about what a digital twin is then I can talk
75. 18:07about the ones I've built and then I think we can we can go build some and it's going to be fun but you got to
76. 18:14follow along so go tell your friends go tell your friends we're going to be building digital twins on the AI learning lab tonight
77. 18:23go so in the world of simulations a digital twin is a simulation of a physical world object like you could
78. 18:31make a digital twin of this that would be a 3D object you could spin it around in space and it would have like a button
79. 18:36on it you can make money and you know if you spun it here you'd find out there's a speaker and there's a little place
80. 18:42where you can turn it on and off and there's these little footy things right so you could have a digital twin of an
81. 18:47object they can get quite sophisticated my friend Richard Boyd um has made simulations for years he actually sold
82. 18:55one of his companies to locked Martin he's like fancy fella and um he once made a digital twin of a nuclear submarine for the
83. 19:08Navy like holy [ __ ] like the whole submarine with all the switches and dials and pressure gauges and pistons
84. 19:15and RAM rods and whatever the [ __ ] a submarine has periscopes missiles tubes tubes within tubes within tubes catwalks all of it
85. 19:30so I think that's the origin of the term and then Richard also um when his father died about five or six years
86. 19:41ago it was before GPT 3 was out I think he was using a different architecture altogether it wasn't a Transformer
87. 19:50architecture but he took all of his dad's writings and he made a digital twin and what the digital twin would do is
88. 20:02read news stories every day and it read the news stories that his father would have [Music] read and I don't remember if it
89. 20:15commented on them or things like that like the technology since gotten much more sophisticated and so so I've made I've made a couple of
90. 20:30throwaway ones now but I have two right now that I that are interesting and valuable well valuable to me one is for a group I'm in called
91. 20:41content Evolution it's a group group of marketing professionals and we decided we wanted to make digital twins of the people that
92. 20:49were in the the AI section of of this group and I I lead that AI group I'm the chief generative officer officer there's my
93. 21:04qualification Jesus I don't know what I breathed in there but this might end early tonight I am the world's as far as I
94. 21:17know first Chief generative [Music] officer and so what we wanted here's how this started we initially what the purpose of content
95. 21:31evolution is you've got this Federation of marketing organizations that that are Loosely Affiliated occasionally will Market things
96. 21:42together but we meet on a regular basis one or two times a week to talk about stuff going on in the world
97. 21:49and how they can help each other get business and things like that and one of the challenges of an organization like
98. 21:55that is how do you discover who's in it and if you come to content Evolution with a problem how would you know who's
99. 22:03good to help you with your problem and so we initially set out to create a directory right and how would how you would create a directory
100. 22:15historically is you create a database right you create a CRM a searchable CRM that's got here are the
101. 22:24sectors that Kyle Works in here are his expertise here's the jobs he's had here's the you know here's a description of his his
102. 22:31well quaffed hair or tupe whatever the case may be and and so that's how it started and and the data that we were going to use was
103. 22:43LinkedIn we were going to go scrape LinkedIn data and use that as the knowledge base for this digital twin and there were a couple of things
104. 22:53one is it's against the rules of LinkedIn to scrape data but there are Services out there that you can pay to
105. 23:01scrape the data and we had a friend that said I've got i' pay for one of these Services I'll scrape some data for you so he scraped some
106. 23:11data and before we even got to building this directory we realized that LinkedIn is kind of shitty data LinkedIn is
107. 23:23like historical and it's just the artifacts of job you've held it doesn't necessarily talk about how you think how you solve
108. 23:36problems what's your personality like um what's your worldview when you fail how do you respond to it right there's a lot
109. 23:43of reasons why you would work with someone Way Beyond their resume and then some people have written
110. 23:51a lot of content on LinkedIn and we were like well maybe the people that have written a lot of content theirs will be
111. 23:56better and then everyone will have and we just kind of like went went soft on the idea and then we hit upon something we said what if we
112. 24:09design a questionnaire like a like 20 questions and we design it in such a way that it really captures the essence of who that person
113. 24:23is and so this group is full of worldclass experts on things like question writing and you know survey design and [ __ ] like
114. 24:35that so of course being an AI group we went to chat GPT and we said here's what we're trying to accomplish and we want
115. 24:41to create this framework for these questions and and chat jpt just knocked it out like that and then we reorganized it and we
116. 24:50went through and we edited most of the questions and we deleted some and added some and I think we ended up with like
117. 24:5925 questions and then the requirement is every single person that wants a digital twin that's part of content Evolution has to a
118. 25:11requirement do a video interview where they get asked the questions by an interviewer and they answer them with their mouth Parts not
119. 25:23writing we had a couple of people write their answers and and if if if it's not obvious to you how you
120. 25:32write and how you talk are not the same English you might write really um formal and talk really loose you might
121. 25:47write really loose and talk really formal you might have bad typing but but what we wanted here here was the big Epiphany that we had
122. 25:58what if we had a digital twin that represented who that person was today as of the day of the interview so it wasn't just looking back
123. 26:07at 30 years of their career but it was like here's what they're thinking right now today and so that's what we did and so that digital
124. 26:17twin its only data source currently is that interview and I gotta tell you they're [ __ ] remarkable like like we do we do
125. 26:29um we we put all of the digital twins into a single GPT and then we have each digital twin as a standalone GPT so each
126. 26:37person gets to use their GPT and they're published so if you look up c c profiles I think let me just make sure if you go to chat
127. 26:54GPT and you go explore gpts [Music] and you type in C profile it should pop up yeah it pops up
128. 27:10a whole list of them and so you can go play with them and then we put all of them into a single GPT and we use that single
129. 27:23GPT to write a weekly article on a particular topic so Kevin who runs content Evolution picks the topic he's
130. 27:31got a set of prompts that he uses to generate an article and then it also so it not only generates an article that
131. 27:37we're going to post it generates quotes from the three people within content Evolution most qualified to answer that question or to
132. 27:46speak on that topic and then he checks with all of us if our name was pulled out of the GPT hat and it's remarkable
133. 27:55like I've had I've probably been quoted in those articles 10 times maybe 15 times there was one time where what it answered was shitty
134. 28:04and was not what I would say so I just I just handw wrote that quote but the others it's it's what I would say and how I would say
135. 28:14it so to the question of does your GP does your digital twin have to have your same name no and digital twin might not be be the right
136. 28:29might not be the right term it kind of works for now but maybe you call it a Persona right and and so here's why I think that
137. 28:37we're all going to have to deal with digital twins when when these tools get better when we've got this voice
138. 28:51synthesis that's got this emotional component to it that can also clone your voice and we've got these tools have reasoning
139. 29:03and these tools have agentic Behavior where they can take action on your behalf we are all likely going to have
140. 29:15multiple agents that represent us so I might have one that rep represents me to go find me a job so it's the professional got to go get a
141. 29:25job now Kyle G digital twin very professional dressed nice you know no t-shirts then I might have a digital
142. 29:37twin that represents me socially like goes and chats up my friends and says hey what are you doing this weekend you
143. 29:44want to do something I'll go get us tickets well that one is going to have a different kind of personality it's going
144. 29:51to have access to different information I might also have a digital twin that negotiates on my behalf this might be a
145. 29:58good example of one where it doesn't have my name right it might be good day uh this is uh Buckminster
146. 30:08McGuffin uh yes I'm calling on behalf of one Kyle Shannon uh to work out this uh lack of reimbursement for his uh health
147. 30:20insurance uh let me start by quoting over the past 13 years Kyle has paid in $622,000 to your esteemed organization and I
148. 30:30think I think we're shopping right now for other insurance if you know what I mean anyway let's go on so Buckminster what was his last name
149. 30:39McGill Cy I don't know doesn't matter that might be a digital twin that has access to my social security number
150. 30:46my health background um my name my phone numbers my mother's maiden name so some of these digital Twins or these personas
151. 30:55are going to have very restricted information and and we as people are going to have to navigate all this data
152. 31:04which twin gets access to which data and which personality do I want it to have and maybe even visually do I want it to
153. 31:12look different right our digital twins right now for Content Evolution are not um visual they're just um they're text
154. 31:20based um but we're probably within 6 months of us being able to create a a digital Twi that you can effectively
155. 31:28have a FaceTime call with so that's what they [Music]

160. 32:30premise and then instead of a 20 Question Interview we'll just do five questions and then I think I'll record it and I'll transcribe
161. 32:41it and then we'll throw it into a GPT and talk to it yeah I think we'll do that has anyone on here made a digital

166. 33:35the deal with me it's an add thing I don't know what it is I make the digital twins love making them I forget to use
167. 33:42them so I got to use them more and that's that's the other thing that we we stumbled upon in content evolution
168. 33:50is the way we were thinking about them is we were thinking about them like what are other people why would someone
169. 34:02else want to use my digital twin right I'm going to make this digital twin I'm going to publish it and then people can
170. 34:08go talk to my digital twin and they can ask me questions why the [ __ ] would anyone want to do that was one of our
171. 34:14questions and so we spent a lot of time thinking about how do we Market our digital twins to drive demand for people to use our digital
172. 34:24Twins and then we like hey wait a minute are we using our digital twins why would we use our digital twins is it like are
173. 34:33they even valuable are they useful the answer is yes by the way but we completely shifted our Focus from
174. 34:41designing these things for other people to use to designing them for us to use so that we can learn how to use them and
175. 34:48learn what it makes sense to use them on Define what the hell of digital twin is because I'm already unsure of exactly
176. 34:54what it means well digital twin is just just a think of it more like a Persona Pate of some set of data that I want represented digitally
177. 35:09but that that is like me um and responds like me with my tone of voice in fact one of the things one of
178. 35:21the pieces of feedback I got from my my content Evolution digital twin came from an irregular here that went and used my
179. 35:30digital twin and said hey Kyle it doesn't know it it doesn't say this you can make Mone it didn't know what the term
180. 35:40embrace the Jank meant like what's going on it didn't swear what's going on well the interview that I did for Content
181. 35:47Evolution I wasn't in this character like believe it or not I'm not this much of a smarmy douche in real life well I
182. 35:56kind of am but that's not the point this is an elevated you know performative version of me so I could take the transcripts of of these
183. 36:08lives transcribe them and throw them into a digital twin and I could have a version of me that has this kind of
184. 36:18stick to it which is going to be different than the other one okay cool so it's extra hand wavy hard actually Define neat I love those
185. 36:29shut up shut up it's it P what what it is is it's nothing more than a custom GPT but the trick is the quality of the
186. 36:43interview and the fact that we're recording the answers to that interview from a conversation rather than typing
187. 36:53creates creates an entity that kind of has your personal it more than if you just answered the questions factually so it's it's a it's
188. 37:03got some factual stuff in it but it captures some essence of who you are and again I think these things are
189. 37:13going to be important and listen over the over the next three or five years there's going to be all sorts of tools
190. 37:20that automatically do this like um meta right now you can do this in Instagram you can make a custom GPT of yourself or
191. 37:29of fictional characters that are kind of this and those things actually go and look at the posts that you've posted on
192. 37:39Instagram and Facebook for the past 20 years and that becomes your personality so these things are going to be everywhere we're not going to
193. 37:49necessarily know them but I think the skill of understanding that you can make them and that you can manipulate your
194. 37:56own data is really interesting and then the next Evolution for the content Evolution digital twins is creating a
195. 38:05companion data set which is like here's all of my writing right here's here's books I've written here's articles I've
196. 38:12written here's I don't know whatever else [ __ ] that might go in there um so you've got sort of the personality
197. 38:20version of you and then you've got all the data kind of a rag kind of thing um so anyway that's that everything I do paint is hand wavy
198. 38:32in fact I did you you got that term from me right that in storyvine I'm the handwavy guy my co-founder is the person
199. 38:40that keeps the trains running on time like that's my nickname the handwavy guy I know Kyle it ages me [Laughter]

203. 39:37um I could use an existing question set but like I don't want to use the content Evolution one because that's proprietary
204. 39:45the other one that I have the the other digital twin that I have is um with Cindy [ __ ] along with seven other authors we
205. 39:55wrote a book called AI fure and Anthology where each author wrote a chapter and so we we used the book as
206. 40:07data for the GPT and then we created a custom set of questions related to the book that also had some of this personal
207. 40:16personal stuff in it and so that GPT you can ask it about the book you can ask about the authors you can ask what the
208. 40:24author like which author would be most qualified to talk about about Futures hello cun um I don't I don't know what my
209. 40:33question is right now so what I want to do is I want to I want to show people how to design how to build a digital twin and
210. 40:42start out with designing like a five question questionnaire like instead of a 20 question questionnaire we'll do a short one cuz I want to
211. 40:49actually do the whole process okay so so this is where you follow along so go to chat GPT or your large language model Choice it doesn't
212. 41:00matter and so here's what we're going to do um I want you to act as a sociologist Anthropologist and human behavior
213. 41:17specialist and help me design five survey questions that can capture the essence of who someone
214. 41:37is and how they solve problems so so we'll make a problem solver GPT all right let's
215. 41:53see designing survey questions that capture Essence and problem solving when faced with a challenge do you tend to rely on more on logic and
216. 42:08Analysis or intuition and Instinct describe a situation where this approach has helped you purpose to understand
217. 42:15where the per per person leans more rational or intuitive okay if you if you could use one of these resources to solve a
218. 42:25complex problem your experiences advice from others or data and research which would you choose and why okay how do you
219. 42:34typically respond when you encounter a situation where there's no clear Solution that's a great question please describe your thought
220. 42:42process describe a time when you had to collaborate with someone and then imagine a time okay so what's missing
221. 42:52here what's missing here is anything about the person themselves so let's consolidate these five questions into
222. 43:04four and then add three questions that are about the person just leave it at
223. 43:21that cover your keys please yes ma'am or sir don't know who said that Dr J ma'am there you go done sorry about
224. 43:32that carry on carry on Cheerio pip pep so once you put all these in a chat GPT it remembers for future
225. 43:41work yeah so what we're going to do Lori is we're going to get the questions right and then I'm going to actually do
226. 43:48a recording I'm going to do a video recording of me answering these questions I'm going to then take that
227. 43:56recording in and I'm going to run it through a transcriber I'm actually going to run it through um this thing I built
228. 44:03for Story vine called the authenticity engine which will take that transcript it'll transcribe it but it'll also break
229. 44:09it into narrative chunks which is kind of interesting um and then we'll take that transcript of me answering these
230. 44:18questions and that becomes the knowledge base for a custom GPT and then once that custom GPT is written with this as an
231. 44:27knowledge based then yeah it's persistent so and and this is this is where these things become super powerful
232. 44:33because I the the other the other way you could write these this questionnaire is you could say I want to write a set
233. 44:40of questions that really capture my personality and tone of voice um and sense of humor and and it would give you a whole different set of
234. 44:50questions and then you could answer those so so how you design this questionnaire you don't you don't need
235. 44:56know how to you don't need to know how to write interview questions chat GPT is really [ __ ] good at it it knows all
236. 45:05the questions right it's read all the books on on survey design and and you know anthropology and sociology and
237. 45:13psychology it knows all this [ __ ] so you can basically just say I want to I want to have a set of questions that when I
238. 45:21have an interview at the end of them if someone answers these questions in an interview I will understand X about
239. 45:28them and so let's see what we came up with okay when confronted with a challenge do you tend to rely more on
240. 45:34logic or intuition if you could use only one of these which would you choose how do you handle situations with no clear
241. 45:40solution recall a time when you worked with someone who had a different perspective of approach or approach what are three core values that
242. 45:50guide your life decisions and how did you come to prioriti prioritize them if you could change one thing about
243. 45:57yourself what would it be and why describe a moment in your life that shaped who you are today um I like the describing a moment in my
244. 46:13life that significantly shaped me but delete those other two questions about the person and let's just make some dog tags
245. 46:24question sets for example name education and work background
246. 46:55period all right that's good great can you order these now can you order these now dog tags first the
247. 47:09four problem solving questions and then the last question should be moment in your
248. 47:24life okay if you're new here if you don't know what the hell I'm doing that's okay so what I'm doing is I'm
249. 47:30designing a set of inter interview questions to interview myself damn it that thing drives me [ __ ] crazy um so if this were a

292. 55:12desktop publishing back in the early days of desktop publishing with Quark Express and things like that then in
293. 55:191994 I created one of the first online magazines called Urban desires and I co-founded agency.com which was one of
294. 55:28the early digital agencies and ended up growing that really quickly and building a lot of early websites for the Fortune
295. 55:35500 and ended up selling that to Omnicom in 2002 and then I did a couple of startups that were interesting intellectually but
296. 55:49not financially and and then in uh when you YouTube came out in 2005 I had an idea about short form video storytelling and
297. 56:02creating a system that could automate uh making videos like that and that led to me founding storyvine which is my current company in
298. 56:132012 and storyvine now is an automated video storytelling platform that serves Pharma companies and healthc care companies and
299. 56:27about two years ago I got really into Ai and created the AI learning lab on Tik Tock the salon which is an AI
300. 56:36Salon uh a community of AI optimists and I've built a lot of AI projects and even written some books when confronted with a challenge
301. 56:49do you tend to rely more on logic and Analysis or intuition and Instinct can you describe a time when this help has
302. 56:57approach approach has helped or hindered when confronted with the challenge I definitely res rely on intuition and Instinct
303. 57:10um I have a good logical mind but I tend to make decisions instinctually a situation where this approach has hindered or helped
304. 57:41when I was Chief people officer of agency.com we had just promised our Veil Colorado office that we wouldn't close them and
305. 57:53they had a $20 million customer dropped from $20 million to $100,000 and we had to make the choice between closing that office or laying
306. 58:09off 10% of the company and my instinct immediately told me that we had to close that office but that was one of the hardest decisions
307. 58:19that we've ever had to make or I've ever had to make um because it was personally de devastating if you could use only one of these to
308. 58:30solve complex problem your experience the advice of others or data and research which would you choose and why I would choose my experience
309. 58:42because the advice of others is is outside of me and I don't really understand why they think the way they
310. 58:52think data and research is not my jam and um you know my experiences I've been on the planet for a while so my
311. 59:01experiences um I've got I've got a lot of them so that's how I would choose it how do you handle situation where
312. 59:06there's no clear solution describe your approach and any specific strategies you use to navigate ambiguity
313. 59:17um you truly become a CEO when you're forced to make a decision where there's no clear answer or there's no good answer
314. 59:26and the only way you can really make a decision like that is to have have underlying principles where you understand why you're making the
315. 59:41decision you're making first and then based on why you're making that decision you make it and don't question it
316. 59:54um so in the examp example of having to close the office or lay off 10% of the staff you have to look at what is the
317. 1:00:01least disruptive choice to the company overall and laying off 10% of the staff globally for an office that was hard to get to and
318. 1:00:14had all of their revenue concentrated in essentially a single client actually made it pretty clear what we
319. 1:00:24communicated we we didn't try to justify that it was the right decision or not what we communicated was the criteria we used to make it and
320. 1:00:34then we said you may agree or disagree with the choice we made but at least you understand our thinking recall a time when you worked
321. 1:00:44with someone who had a different perspective or approach how did you handle the differences and what did you
322. 1:00:49learn from the experience so I have this I have this live show I do on t to called the AI learning lab and there's this one guy
323. 1:00:58in there named pate and whenever I say anything he contradicts me and tells me I'm a dum dum and and first of all some people think
324. 1:01:09that he's offensive I think he's really funny oh a new version of chat gpt's ready to install that's exciting um and
325. 1:01:18and what I've what I've learned is that having people in the room that have very different worldviews VI is actually
326. 1:01:27quite important because if not you end up being in an echo chamber and there's no one there to question um decisions
327. 1:01:37you make and and um hold you to account and one of the great lessons I've learned in my life is that every major
328. 1:01:46problem that I've had both personally and professionally when I went back and analyzed it could have been present
329. 1:01:54prevented had one person in the room asked what was an obvious stupid question so be afraid be willing to ask
330. 1:02:04the stupid question and have people in the room that are willing to question things um will absolutely save your butt
331. 1:02:11every time and plus he's funny um describe a moment or an event in your life that significantly shaped who you are today
332. 1:02:26at the end of the summer after I graduated college I had a full scholarship to go to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival which sounds like
333. 1:02:36an oxymoron but they actually the Alabama Shakespeare Festival is actually a really a really prestigious uh thing
334. 1:02:44um I I had a full scholarship there and I got offered an equity acting job in Washington DC um two weeks before I was
335. 1:02:52supposed to show up at the Alabama Shakespeare FES estival to start my MFA program uh so I made the decision to
336. 1:03:01take that job in Washington DC and move to New York City and say [ __ ] it and start my life as a professional actor um
337. 1:03:10and that changed everything that put me in the center of the beast when I wanted to do all the stuff I wanted to do and
338. 1:03:17it was it was the best decision of My Life um the guy from Alabama was pretty pissed but you know he he actually said

504. 1:35:34document saved it as a PDF that PDF becomes the data source for a custom GPT and then basically you tell the custom

585. 1:51:15quote and you should put this quote right after the paragraph that had that quote in it it's so you got to be
586. 1:51:22careful with the citations in in perplexity but um they they need to dial that in but it's it's quite a useful
