31:54 this is not just a video this is like a
31:56 real narrative right with
31:58 scenes and special effects and rack

32:09 and the thing where she meets the the

32:17 here like just the design of that

35:49 just all the stuff that that has to
35:51 happen to make even 5 Seconds of film
35:56 the fact that we can now spin up an
35:58 image drop it into mid journey and 30
36:00 seconds later have something that that
36:02 moves and as long as long as you know
36:05 the elements of the story you want to
36:07 tell you can you can really quickly just
36:10 go through it and and do
36:12 it and there was just such nice
36:14 consistency here whenever he's with the
36:16 orbs you know he's in the other
36:20 place there's other elements that are
36:22 green it's it's really comforting kind
36:24 of color still play with my Power
36:25 Rangers and then she would be amazed by
36:27 them just like

46:40 to become something even smarter we
46:42 could be on our own like unlocking
46:43 superpowers we never thought of exactly

46:53 fascinating really same voice there she
46:56 is in and hooked actually suggests those

47:03 tied to get this our survival instincts

47:09 go got to be honest what do they mean by
47:10 that think of super cool and then I did

48:53 both did really interesting stuff over

49:36 trick this is the trick with
49:39 it the trick with the AI stuff is right
49:44 there play first mindfully create

49:49 lead just play with the tools the tools
49:51 are changing so fast and they're
49:54 evolving so fast that it's actually
49:57 impossible to master
49:59 anything like chat GPT at this point is
50:02 probably a dozen tools all of which do
50:06 slightly different things and all of
50:09 which are complete rabbit holes in and
50:11 of themselves so you just play until you
50:13 get your head a little bit around
50:15 something and then you say hey I've got
50:17 a thing to do like cam I've got these
50:19 three assignments for work this
50:21 professional development stuff bang she
50:23 just knocked them out the minute you put
50:25 the mindfully creative okay now I've got
50:28 a specific problem based on what I've
50:30 learned when I was playing let me apply
50:33 that and then the generously lead is
50:35 share it share what you're learning hop
50:37 into something like this Kim Ken it was
50:40 really good memory gave me options and
50:42 updated its memory with each revision
50:45 very cool so Becky Ru I uploaded as many
50:48 notes as I could wait what what' she do
50:50 okay writer block for years oh this is
50:51 going to be good hang on what' you do
50:56 okay writer block for years uploaded my
51:00 notes into preview so that's the 01
51:03 preview so that's the new model from
51:05 open Ai and it gave me 33 chapters of my
51:11 Memoir Becky I told you writer block for
51:16 years and now you have 33 chapters of
51:20 your Memoir I uploaded as many notes as
51:22 I I could I can't get back into preview
51:26 until 9:20
51:27 um here's the good news Becky you can
51:32 um you can just flip that chat over to
51:36 gp40 so if you're
51:38 in if you're in chat
51:42 GPT and it might even be better so let
51:45 let me let me share something with
51:48 you especially if you're doing creative
51:52 writing what's nice about 01 preview is
51:57 that it is
51:59 um it does that multi-step reasoning so
52:02 especially when you're putting together
52:04 a complicated organization project like
52:07 you did Becky with you just dumped all
52:09 your notes in there and said hey
52:10 organize this [ __ ] for me that's really
52:13 good but let let me show you one other
52:14 thing I'm going to make a new chat
52:16 here
52:19 so there's now at least in my
52:23 opinion three
52:25 things um that you should be be
52:27 experimenting with when you're doing any
52:28 kind of creative writing and I'm going
52:30 to add a fourth three of them are within
52:33 chat GPT so one of them is the O the new
52:36 01 preview right so this is the
52:38 reasoning engine this is also the one
52:41 that's got uh a
52:43 50 50 chat per week limit on it because
52:47 it's it's really expensive on their side
52:49 the other one is chat 40 chap 4 Omni
52:53 right um You can switch between those in
52:57 in the same chat so if your if your chat
52:59 says hey you can't do any more of this
53:01 just flip over to 40 here's what I would
53:03 also recommend under more models go back
53:07 to the Legacy model of GPT
53:11 4 you may or may not remember but GPT 4
53:15 is a 1.8 trillion parameter model that's
53:19 got
53:20 10 um 1.8
53:24 billion parameter
53:27 experts it's called a mixture of experts
53:29 model the reason this one's Legacy and
53:32 they've kind of buried it is this is
53:34 also really
53:35 expensive but it's it's a big beefy
53:38 model and it's really good at writing so
53:40 if if you're stuck in in your writing
53:43 you can flip between those three
53:46 models the other thing that I would
53:48 strongly encourage you to do is take
53:50 your notes or your new set of chapters
53:53 or just take your whole new 33 chapters
53:55 plus all your notes go upload those into
53:59 Claude because Claude has a
54:02 200,000 um token context window so it's
54:05 like 150,000 words so you can probably
54:08 put your entire 33 chapter novel or
54:11 Memoir plus your notes in there and
54:14 still have a conversation with it so I
54:16 would muck around with all four of those
54:19 gp4 Omni 01 preview and gp4 Legacy and
54:27 and then Claude as well what you're
54:29 going to find is all four of them are
54:31 going to write slightly differently and
54:33 you might like the personality of how
54:35 one of them writes better than the other
54:38 so for what that's worth Kim katkin it
54:41 was really

54:45 having 40 write a prompt for 01 mini and
54:49 then rate the output good stuff Amelio's

1:08:49 it and then if you liked what it did a
1:08:51 little bit you can download it right so
1:08:52 keep that version but like what I do for
1:08:56 the ones I've published the Sydney
1:08:59 one um I probably produced 20 of them
1:09:02 and two of them I liked enough to keep
1:09:05 and then for the for collective
1:09:07 intelligence the very first one it did I
1:09:09 kept because it was really good for AI
1:09:11 Futures and Anthology I probably did
1:09:13 about 15 of them so you can just redo
1:09:16 them so that's the only real control you
1:09:17 have over them um you can't control the
1:09:20 voices although if you want to get
1:09:22 creative in 11 Labs it's got a a voice
1:09:27 too uh model where you could take his
1:09:30 voice and swap that out with someone
1:09:32 else's voice so if you didn't want it to
1:09:34 sound like everyone else's and you
1:09:36 wanted to get creative you could go do
1:09:38 that um here's the idea that I had with
1:09:41 Steve so Steve put his website for zero
1:09:46 shoes he's the CEO of zero shoes he put
1:09:49 his website here and then it it did what
1:09:51 it did and he wanted some way to control
1:09:54 that so the idea that I had was was you
1:09:56 could create a separate PDF that's
1:09:59 essentially a series of prompts that
1:10:01 tells tells it where it should look and
1:10:05 what it should pay attention to so if
1:10:07 you're making a podcast about this if
1:10:09 you're doing a deep dive podcast about
1:10:12 you know zero shoes focus on the new
1:10:15 products and don't talk about the old
1:10:17 products and you know do this and don't
1:10:19 do that so I would think you could do
1:10:21 some prompt
1:10:22 injection um by by just putting it as is
1:10:25 one of your uploaded PDF files that's
1:10:27 the only way you're going to get any
1:10:29 control right now I assume that over
1:10:32 time um Google May release an authoring
1:10:36 tool where we're going to be able to
1:10:38 create our own versions of these where
1:10:40 it might be you know like a newscast or
1:10:42 you know something that's different than
1:10:44 this you know happy go-lucky back and
1:10:47 forth podcast

1:10:56 go Google does not have a lot of product
1:10:59 marketing um in the company right now I
1:11:03 don't even know how aware they are of
1:11:04 how popular this feature is right like
1:11:07 it's really hard to know oh that's a
1:11:09 good idea a PDF with instructions um and
1:11:11 Source Camp I haven't tested that so if

1:20:57 impact jobs exactly it seems like every
1:20:59 day there's a new article about robots
1:21:01 taking over some other industry it's
1:21:03 enough to make anyone nervous right it's
1:21:06 a big concern for a lot of people and
1:21:08 the article doesn't sugarcoat it it says
1:21:10 that AI will definitely change the job
1:21:13 market as we know it some jobs will
1:21:15 probably become automated and we'll
1:21:18 probably see big shifts in certain
1:21:19 Fields so you're saying it's not as
1:21:21 simple as like robots just showing up
1:21:24 one day and taking everyone's jobs no
1:21:26 not at all it's way more complicated
1:21:29 than that think about like the invention
1:21:31 of the car right yes that obviously
1:21:33 changed how people got around but it
1:21:35 also caused huge changes in other areas
1:21:38 we don't have as many blacksmiths or
1:21:39 stable hands anymore for example yeah
1:21:42 true but it created all these new jobs
1:21:44 too building cars fixing cars all the
1:21:47 stuff that goes along with
1:21:48 Transportation networks things people
1:21:50 couldn't have even imagined before wow
1:21:52 when you put it like that it really
1:21:53 changes things doesn't it it remind me
1:21:55 of that part in the article about the
1:21:56 lamp lighters oh yeah like that's a job
1:21:58 that seems like medieval now who could
1:22:02 have predicted that electricity would
1:22:03 change things so much exactly it's a
1:22:06 perfect example of how technology
1:22:08 creates new opportunities even as it
1:22:10 makes some old jobs Obsolete and the
1:22:13 article says the same thing will happen
1:22:14 with AI some jobs will disappear but
1:22:17 others jobs we can't even picture yet
1:22:20 will be created that's kind of exciting
1:22:22 but also a little scary like how do you
1:22:24 prepare for a a job that doesn't even
1:22:26 exist yet well that's the challenge
1:22:27 isn't it right it feels almost
1:22:29 impossible but it sounds like the
1:22:31 article is saying that we need to be
1:22:33 like proactive instead of just freaking
1:22:35 out about the robot apocalypse yes hang
1:22:37 out at the AI learning lab in the sand
1:22:39 is not a good strategy the article
1:22:41 emphasizes being open about the
1:22:43 challenges AI brings you know having
1:22:45 honest conversations about the tough
1:22:46 stuff and even more importantly it says
1:22:49 we need to invest in education and
1:22:51 training programs to help people learn
1:22:53 the skills they need for this new future
1:22:56 so instead of being afraid of the
1:22:58 unknown we should be like getting ready
1:23:00 for it but how do we even do that I mean
1:23:02 what can we as like regular people join

1:24:32 the article touches on that this idea

1:24:37 those routine tasks and more about
1:24:38 creativity Innovation the things that
1:24:40 make us human I like that so it's not
1:24:42 will robots steal our jobs it's what
1:24:45 kind of Worlds do we want to create with

1:24:49 how we think about it embracing the
1:24:52 possibilities and remembering that the
1:24:53 future isn't set in stone it's something

1:25:41 can generate this thing called the audio
1:25:42 overview so what we just listened to was
1:25:44 this audio overview podcast of this
1:25:49 article that Sam mman wrote
1:25:51 today and put out there and I I think
1:25:54 what what I'm going to actually do is I
1:25:57 mean that that was good to hear them say
1:26:01 that but I want to um I want to read
1:26:03 through it together because uh because I
1:26:07 do because I think it's important to
1:26:08 read it um and comment on it so in the
1:26:12 next couple of decades we will be able
1:26:13 to do things that would have seemed like
1:26:15 magic to our grandparents this Phenom
1:26:17 phenomenon is not new but will be newly
1:26:20 accelerated people have become
1:26:22 dramatically more capable over time we
1:26:24 can already accomplish things now that
1:26:27 our predecessors would have believed to
1:26:29 be impossible so I I find this kind of
1:26:34 fascinating framing from Altman because
1:26:37 what he's saying
1:26:39 here it's kind of
1:26:42 fascinating what he's saying here is
1:26:45 that in the history of mankind there's
1:26:48 there have already been dramatic
1:26:49 improvements in how we do what we do
1:26:53 and here's how I'm reading that cuz he's
1:26:55 opening the piece with this how I'm
1:26:57 reading that is this isn't so
1:27:00 dramatically different that you should
1:27:01 be afraid of it and regulate it away
1:27:04 right what he's saying is this is just a
1:27:07 Continuum I would argue that this is not
1:27:10 just a Continuum I I think that if if
1:27:13 you've played with AI tools at all they
1:27:16 are our computers do not behave
1:27:20 predictably anymore they used to behave
1:27:23 predictably you would program them to do
1:27:25 a certain thing and they would do that
1:27:27 thing predictably sometimes predictably
1:27:30 bad but predictably and now the G in GPT
1:27:35 the
1:27:36 generative is very very significant
1:27:39 because they are
1:27:42 generating new things new writings even
1:27:44 new ideas and and for anyone that tells
1:27:48 you oh but they can't do new novel ideas
1:27:50 that's horseshit we've we've actually
1:27:52 experienced that here on this podcast
1:27:54 and they're going to get more and more
1:27:56 capable of inventing in fact level four
1:27:59 AGI is innovation and invention um once
1:28:04 once you combine reasoning and agents
1:28:06 and you you know put them together to
1:28:08 solve a problem then you know you get
1:28:11 invention okay um we are more capable
1:28:15 not because of genetic change but
1:28:17 because we benefit from the
1:28:19 infrastructure of society being way
1:28:22 smarter and more capable than any one of
1:28:24 us of us that's really important and
1:28:26 that's really to true the the book that
1:28:28 I'm about to publish collective
1:28:30 intelligence in the age of AI
1:28:32 essentially makes that argument that why
1:28:35 this feels so magical sometimes is that
1:28:37 the data set that we're tapping
1:28:40 into is the collective intelligence of
1:28:42 everyone that's come before us our
1:28:45 grandparents and the generations that
1:28:47 came before them built and achieved
1:28:49 great things they contributed to the
1:28:51 scaffolding of human process that we all
1:28:54 better benefit from AI will give people
1:28:57 tools to solve hard problems and help us
1:28:59 add new struts to the scaffolding we
1:29:01 couldn't have figured out on our own the
1:29:03 story of progress will continue and our
1:29:06 children will be able to do things we
1:29:09 can't it won't come all at
1:29:13 once but we'll soon be able to work with
1:29:15 AI to help us accomplish much more than
1:29:17 we ever could without AI eventually we
1:29:20 can each have a personal AI team what
1:29:24 they call level five AGI is
1:29:27 organizations full of virtual experts in
1:29:30 different areas working together to
1:29:32 create almost anything we can
1:29:35 imagine so right now when you ask chat
1:29:38 GPT something it'll it'll answer a
1:29:40 question or with the new reasoning
1:29:42 engine it will think through a bigger
1:29:45 problem and solve a multi-step
1:29:48 problem when we get to having reasoning
1:29:52 agents that can be generated dynamically
1:29:55 on our behalf we can just give them
1:29:57 goals like go start me a business and
1:29:59 off it will go to start you a
1:30:02 business
1:30:06 um AI will give people tools to solve
1:30:09 hard problems and to help us add new
1:30:11 struts to the scaffolder okay the story
1:30:13 of progress will continue and our
1:30:14 children will be able to do things we
1:30:16 can't it won't happen all at once but
1:30:18 we'll be able to work with AI to help us
1:30:20 accomplish oh I've already read all this
1:30:22 okay full of virtual experts in areas
1:30:24 working together to create almost
1:30:26 anything we can imagine our children
1:30:28 will have virtual tutors that can
1:30:29 provide personalized instruction in any
1:30:32 subject in any language and at whatever
1:30:35 Pace they need we can imagine similar
1:30:37 ideas for Better Health Care the ability
1:30:39 to create any kind of software someone
1:30:41 can imagine and much more with these new
1:30:46 abilities we can have a shared
1:30:48 prosperity to a degree that seems
1:30:49 unimaginable today in the future
1:30:53 everyone's lives can be better
1:30:54 better than anyone's life is now
1:30:57 Prosperity alone doesn't necessarily
1:31:00 make people happy there are plenty of
1:31:02 miserable rich people but it would
1:31:04 meaningfully improve the lives of people
1:31:06 around the world here's one narrow look
1:31:10 at human history after thousands of
1:31:12 years of compounding scientific
1:31:14 discovery and technological progress we
1:31:17 figured out how to melt sand add some
1:31:20 impurities arrange it with astonishing
1:31:23 Precision at extraordinarily tiny scale
1:31:25 into computer chips run energy through
1:31:28 it and end up with systems capable of
1:31:30 creating increasingly capable artificial
1:31:33 intelligence so he's basically saying we
1:31:35 we have computer chips and the computer
1:31:37 chips are getting faster and faster
1:31:41 um because of
1:31:46 the
1:31:48 um the Transformer architecture that
1:31:50 Google invented and and the Insight that
1:31:54 seems like open AI had first although I
1:31:57 don't I don't know if that's true but
1:31:59 they certainly had this Insight that the
1:32:02 more data you throw at this Transformer
1:32:04 architecture and the more compute power
1:32:06 you throw at it the better it gets and
1:32:09 so the reason chat gp4 got it as good as
1:32:12 it did is they just threw buckets and
1:32:15 buckets of compute power buckets and
1:32:17 buckets of data and it did what it did
1:32:19 and got really smart and that's why
1:32:21 we're where we are this may turn out to
1:32:23 be the most consequential fact about all
1:32:27 of history so far it is possible that we
1:32:31 will have superintelligence in a few
1:32:33 thousand
1:32:36 days so super okay AGI artificial
1:32:40 general intelligence open AI their
1:32:43 mission is to achieve AGI not ASI AGI
1:32:48 they've got five levels of it chatbot
1:32:51 which we have reasoning which we just
1:32:53 got with 01 preview agents which I think
1:32:56 we're going to get probably in October
1:32:59 if not by the end of the year then
1:33:01 you've got um Innovations or inventors
1:33:05 and then you've got organizations so
1:33:07 those are the five levels of AGI above
1:33:10 that is AI ASI so AGI is generally um
1:33:15 generally defined as systems that are
1:33:18 capable autonomous systems that are
1:33:21 capable of doing
1:33:25 the economically valuable work of most
1:33:28 humans like median
1:33:30 humans so being better at doing jobs
1:33:32 than most humans
1:33:34 ASI artificial super
1:33:36 intelligence is being able to to be
1:33:39 better at work than essentially All
1:33:42 Humans being Superior in intelligence to
1:33:46 All
1:33:47 Humans um he
1:33:51 says it is possible that we will have
1:33:54 super intelligence in a few thousand
1:33:58 days so 365
1:34:01 days so so let's call it a few thousand
1:34:05 let's call that 10
1:34:07 years um Ilia

1:34:13 scientist there he left open AI to start
1:34:18 SSI which is a company called safe super
1:34:22 intelligence they just raised a billion
1:34:23 dollar on A5 billion valuation to create
1:34:27 super intelligence so the guy that was
1:34:30 leading the leading smarts at open AI
1:34:33 has left to basically skip AGI and go
1:34:36 straight to
1:34:37 ASI um so so yeah so anyway there's that
1:34:42 how did we get to the doorstep of the
1:34:44 next leap of prosperity in three in in
1:34:47 three words deep learning worked in 15
1:34:50 words deep learning worked got
1:34:52 predictably better with SC
1:34:54 and we dedicated increasing resources to
1:34:57 it right the we dedicated increasing
1:35:00 resources to it was hey Microsoft we
1:35:02 need a billion dollars hey Microsoft we
1:35:04 need 10 billion
1:35:06 dollar hey world we might need trillions
1:35:09 of dollars right CU we might need to
1:35:12 build our own chips we might need to
1:35:13 build our own electricity factories to
1:35:17 power all these
1:35:20 chips um I grew up in York Pennsylvania
1:35:24 near 3 m Island which was decommissioned
1:35:26 after a rather famous
1:35:31 situation guess what they're
1:35:34 recommissioning Three Mile Island to
1:35:36 generate electricity for data centers to
1:35:39 train
1:35:41 AI so I heard I heard that
1:35:44 yesterday um that's really it Humanity
1:35:47 discovered an algorithm that could
1:35:49 really truly learn any distribution of
1:35:52 data or really really the underlying
1:35:55 rules that produce any distribution of
1:35:58 data that is I wish he'd have said that
1:36:01 in a way in in words that were not quite
1:36:03 so um PhD required but basically what it
1:36:07 means is it can learn real
1:36:09 good it's got It's got good book
1:36:12 smarts to a shocking degree of precision
1:36:16 the more compute and data available the
1:36:19 better it gets at helping people solve
1:36:21 hard problems I find that no matter how
1:36:24 much time I spend thinking about this I
1:36:26 can never really inter internalize how
1:36:30 consequential this is this this is the
1:36:33 Insight that is why open AI is who they
1:36:38 are this was the
1:36:41 realization that the more they threw at
1:36:43 it the more data they threw at it the

1:37:22 will solve the remaining problems we can
1:37:25 see a lot of we can say a lot of things
1:37:27 about what may happen next but the main
1:37:29 one is that AI is going to get better
1:37:32 with scale and that will lead to
1:37:34 meaningful improvements in the lives of
1:37:36 people around the world AI models will
1:37:40 soon serve as autonomous assistants this
1:37:43 is important right this is level three
1:37:47 AGI so we've got reasoning right now
1:37:50 it's very limited it's very hobbled but
1:37:52 we've got it AI models will soon serve
1:37:55 as autonomous personal assistants who
1:37:58 carry out specific tasks on our behalf
1:38:01 like coordinating Medical Care on your
1:38:03 behalf at some point further down the
1:38:05 road AI systems may get so good that
1:38:08 they help us make better next Generation
1:38:10 systems and make scientific progress
1:38:13 across the
1:38:14 board AI systems are going to get so
1:38:16 good they help us make better next
1:38:18 Generation
1:38:20 systems so that's that's the thing that
1:38:22 the Sci-Fi writers worry about right
1:38:26 when the AI starts improving itself uh
1:38:29 what what do what do we
1:38:31 do these things are already way more
1:38:33 powerful than we are I mean I would
1:38:35 argue right now that GPT 3.5 is
1:38:39 significantly smarter than I
1:38:41 am and gp4 Omni is significantly smarter
1:38:47 than that and GPT or than 01 preview is
1:38:50 significantly smarter than that like I'm
1:38:54 already assuming I'm in the
1:38:57 dust we're playing with the shitty tools
1:39:01 and they're this
1:39:02 good technology brought us from the
1:39:04 Stone Age to the agricultural age and
1:39:06 then to the Industrial Age from here the
1:39:09 path to the intelligence age is paved
1:39:12 with compute energy and human will if we
1:39:16 put AI in the hands of as many people as
1:39:18 possible and that's what they seem to be
1:39:19 trying to
1:39:20 do we need to drive down the cost of
1:39:23 compute and make it abundant now there's
1:39:26 a couple of ways to drive that down the
1:39:28 cost of
1:39:30 compute one of the theories is you spend
1:39:33 lots and lots of money um training the
1:39:37 models right which is super expensive
1:39:40 and then you optimize them and quantize
1:39:43 them and make them smaller and smaller
1:39:45 so you can run them
1:39:46 locally right so if we've got
1:39:48 increasingly powerful models that we can
1:39:50 run on our iPhone run on our local
1:39:52 devices run on our laptop tops without
1:39:55 having to go out and tax these data
1:39:58 centers um that's going to make a huge
1:40:02 difference the risk he says
1:40:06 here if we don't build enough
1:40:08 infrastructure we'll be very AI will be
1:40:11 a very limited resource that Wars get
1:40:14 fought over and becomes mostly a tool
1:40:16 for rich people so this is to The
1:40:19 Regulators invest in um energy
1:40:22 infrastructure
1:40:24 we need to act wisely but with
1:40:26 conviction the dawn of intelligence age
1:40:29 is a momentous development with very
1:40:31 complex and extremely high stakes

1:40:36 positive story but the upside is so
1:40:39 tremendous that we owe it to ourselves
1:40:41 and the future to figure out how to

1:41:14 incrementally astounding triumphs fixing
1:41:18 the climate establishing space Colony a
1:41:21 space colony and discovery of
1:41:24 all of physics will eventually become
1:41:27 commonplace with nearly Limitless
1:41:29 intelligence and abundant energy which
1:41:32 by the way AI will likely help us solve
1:41:35 the Abundant the energy
1:41:39 issue the ability to generate great
1:41:42 ideas and the ability to make them
1:41:43 happen we can do quite a
1:41:46 lot as we have seen with other
1:41:48 Technologies there will also be
1:41:50 downsides and we need to start working
1:41:52 now to maximize ai's benefits while
1:41:54 minimizing its
1:41:56 harms as one example we expect that this
1:41:59 technology can cause significant change
1:42:01 in labor markets good and bad in the
1:42:04 coming years most jobs will change more
1:42:06 slowly than most people think I agree
1:42:07 with that I think it's going to be very
1:42:09 fragmented for a while and I have no
1:42:11 fear that we will run out of wait I have
1:42:14 no fear that we'll run out of things to
1:42:16 do even if they don't look like real
1:42:18 jobs to us today right so you might have
1:42:22 you know people doing juggling shows
1:42:25 might all of a sudden become an
1:42:27 important job because we want to make
1:42:29 people happier I don't I don't know
1:42:31 we'll see um people have an innate
1:42:34 desire to create and to be useful to
1:42:37 each other I agree with that and AI will
1:42:39 allow us to amplify our own abilities
1:42:41 this is something I say all the time
1:42:42 that AI is a Humanity amplifier AI will
1:42:45 allow us to amplify our own abilities

1:42:50 be back in an expanding world and we can
1:42:52 again Focus on playing positive sum

1:56:58 curate it's just life you know and this

1:57:08 becoming the the main way people were
1:57:09 taking photos then Instagram was around
1:57:11 but it was like nowhere near what it is

1:57:21 really about capturing the moment for

1:57:41 it was still a big deal like trusting
1:57:43 the cloud with all those memories right
1:57:45 it's like handing over your your shoe
1:57:47 box of photos but like to the internet

1:57:51 2013 but you also shared some very
1:57:53 recent photos too like September 11th
1:57:56 2024 yeah I mean think about how much
1:57:58 Tech especially cameras have changed
1:58:01 just in that decade yeah it's not it's
1:58:03 not talking about the subject of the
1:58:05 photos blurry selfies to like portrait
1:58:08 mode and everything's crystal clear and
1:58:10 the way people use cameras the types of
1:58:12 photos they take it's all so different
1:58:14 now have you each photo tells a story
1:58:16 think about how many photos you probably
1:58:18 have just like cool bird or something

1:58:21 call that a fail it didn't actually look
1:58:23 at the photos in my
1:58:25 case try creating a a PDF describing
1:58:29 your pictures and then uploading that
1:58:31 that would work for sure has sunno been
1:58:32 replaced by notebook LM as the new toy

1:59:32 standalone app or a
1:59:34 standalone

1:59:48 I want it to be like a podcast or a news

2:04:18 photographer the week after chat GPT
2:04:21 came out
2:04:23 and we started it so so just to give you
2:04:25 a little bit of my my background my
2:04:27 history in the
2:04:30 mid90s of the previous
2:04:35 Century I started one of the first
2:04:37 digital web
2:04:39 agencies there's a company called
2:04:41 agency.com and it was so early here's
2:04:44 how early I was in in the
2:04:47 internet that when we decided to start a
2:04:50 company called the agent
2:04:53 gency when I went to internic which is
2:04:56 where you went to go get do domains
2:04:59 agency.com was
2:05:01 available for free so I just registered
2:05:04 it um it was very very early and so I
2:05:08 started a group in 1994 called the
2:05:10 worldwide web artist Consortium which
2:05:13 was a New York City based um just group
2:05:16 of people curious about the worldwide
2:05:18 web way before anyone knew what the [ __ ]
2:05:21 was going on with the world Wide Web
2:05:22 that didn't come until like
2:05:24 1999 like four years later so part of
2:05:28 my part of my thing in life I guess is
2:05:31 paying attention to technology and I'm
2:05:33 particularly passionate about the
2:05:35 intersection of Storytelling and
2:05:38 technology and what the worldwide web
2:05:43 represented to the
2:05:45 internet chat GPT represents to Ai and
2:05:49 here's what I mean by that prior to the
2:05:52 the worldwide web the internet was
2:05:53 command line you had to be a geek you
2:05:56 had to be a research scientist or a
2:06:00 librarian right or an engineer and you
2:06:03 could use the internet you could trade
2:06:05 files on FTP servers and [ __ ] like that
2:06:08 and then Tim burner Lee invents this
2:06:11 thing that enables the creation of the
2:06:13 web browser where you could click on
2:06:16 [ __ ] you could just do that to jump from
2:06:19 server a to server B and it did matter
2:06:22 if server a was in New York and server B
2:06:24 was in Paris you just did that and now
2:06:28 you're in
2:06:30 Paris so it took this profound power of
2:06:34 inter networked computers and made it
2:06:37 accessible for the rest of us that's
2:06:40 what chat GPT did for machine learning
2:06:43 and Ai and that's what this Channel's
2:06:45 about is the world post chat GPT and
2:06:49 that's what this community is about is
2:06:52 now that we've all got access to these
2:06:54 incredibly powerful Technologies what
2:06:56 the [ __ ] do we do with
2:06:59 them and what this is not about is
2:07:03 debating whether it's good or whether
2:07:05 it's bad or whether it's stealing or
2:07:07 whether it's this or whether it's that
2:07:08 you can have those conversations in
2:07:10 there but the philosophy with this
2:07:13 Channel and with this community is
2:07:16 independent of your opinion of whether
2:07:19 AI is good or bad it's
2:07:22 here not coming it's
2:07:26 here and you've got one of two choices
2:07:29 it's it's very binary which is perfect
2:07:31 for computer
2:07:33 nerds it's very
2:07:35 binary you can sit like this on the
2:07:38 sidelines and be like I don't like it I
2:07:41 don't like
2:07:42 it and you're going to be smacked upside
2:07:45 the head when it gets
2:07:46 real
2:07:48 or independent of how you feel about it
2:07:52 you jump
2:07:54 in and you start playing and you start
2:07:57 talking about it and you start going oh
2:07:59 here's what it made possible oh I had an
2:08:02 idea I Kyle said something on the AI
2:08:06 learning lab one night and I thought hey
2:08:08 I'm going to make my kids a book about
2:08:11 that like Brandon did this picture book
2:08:15 for his
2:08:16 kids about technology terms related to
2:08:20 AI four hours from concept
2:08:25 to you can buy it on
2:08:30 Amazon Brandon tid my first journey in
2:08:33 the World of Tomorrow an alphabetical
2:08:36 Guide to the innovations that will shape

2:08:45 hours is this going to change the world

2:10:02 decades we're going to be debating
2:10:04 copyright for
2:10:07 decades the IP lawyers are are shopping
2:10:10 for their second Yachts right now
2:10:13 because they know they're going to make
2:10:13 so much [ __ ] money from both sides
2:10:16 suing each
2:10:20 other that's no reason to sit on the
2:10:25 sidelines this shit's happening

2:10:32 back to these these things night after

2:11:44 you're not
2:11:47 experimenting if you're not in some way
2:11:50 in the conversation

2:11:59 community is to prevent that for as many

2:13:20 before he he kind of buries it in there

2:13:26 bit we've never really had a technology
2:13:30 before that essentially compresses all
2:13:33 of human
2:13:35 knowledge into a little ball that we can
2:13:39 just peer
2:13:43 into all of human
2:13:46 knowledge all of those connections all
2:13:48 of those insights are now instant ly
2:13:51 accessible by all of
2:13:54 us and they're getting better and better
2:13:56 and better and
2:14:01 better why you would not be excited
2:14:04 about
2:14:05 that why you would let a little thing
2:14:07 like fear of the existential dread of
2:14:11 losing your value as a human why you
2:14:14 would let that stop you right now is
2:14:16 beyond
2:14:19 me because I I promise you so here's
2:14:21 what I can promise you if you're new to
2:14:23 this this AI
2:14:24 [ __ ] what I can promise you is
2:14:27 this you owe it to yourself to play with
2:14:30 AI long enough to have your first Kevin
2:14:32 mallister moment which is this
2:14:36 moment and the first one of those you
2:14:40 have you'll either be more excited than
2:14:43 you've ever been or more scared than
2:14:45 you've ever been or both at the same
2:14:48 time and then what happens is the more
2:14:50 that you keep playing with this stuff

2:15:17 bizarre it is
2:15:20 surreal the people in this community to
2:15:22 a great degree have normalized how
2:15:25 [ __ ]
2:15:29 remarkable the tools we get to play
2:15:32 with I mean not for nothing but as much
2:15:36 revenue as open AI is making they're
2:15:39 spending way more than that on their
2:15:41 compute costs they're not making money
2:15:45 they're they're bleeding
2:15:47 money we're the beneficiaries of them
2:15:51 raising 10 billion dollar and getting
2:15:54 access to all of Microsoft's server
2:15:57 Farms so they make these models they
2:15:59 compress all of human knowledge into
2:16:01 these things that we go play with we get
2:16:05 to play with that and because of their
2:16:08 little chat gbt experiment taking
2:16:11 off all of the investor community and
2:16:14 all of the development Community has
2:16:16 spent the past two years dumping all of
2:16:19 the brains and all of the money into
2:16:21 this stuff so there's now a robust
2:16:25 open-source
2:16:26 Community there's a robust commercial
2:16:30 Community com competing with one
2:16:33 another and we get to play with all this
2:16:37 [ __ ] so if you're not playing with it
2:16:39 get off the [ __ ]
2:16:41 Sidelines come hang out here and start
2:16:43 playing go there and start asking
2:16:45 questions introduce yourself start
2:16:50 talking life's tough it's tougher when
2:16:52 you're

2:17:46 bizarre
2:17:49 morphing nonlinear Ed
2:17:53 education of what these tools make
2:17:55 possible for
2:17:58 us and you'll go months where you're
2:18:00 just like I don't I can't
2:18:02 deal but just stay in the conversation
2:18:05 stay in the
2:18:06 conversation because at some point
2:18:08 something will click and you'll go you
2:18:10 know maybe I'll pull out those notes for
2:18:12 my me Memoirs probably can't really deal
2:18:14 with it but let me let me see if it can

2:18:19 it well make chapter 2 oh [ __ ] well make
2:18:24 chapters 3 four and five oh

2:18:48 notes it doesn't care it'll look at your

2:18:56 great feeling it gave me a visual yeah

2:19:03 moment visualize these ideas

2:19:13 Becky take the 33 chapters as you've got
2:19:17 them right now no need to edit them
2:19:19 throw them in a PDF put it in the
2:19:21 notebook LM and have it make a

2:20:00 things that most people on the planet

2:23:25 client using a custom GPT he made to
2:23:29 analyze something for that client bang
2:23:31 boom bing bang boom

2:23:37 amazing Source Camp sold my first GPT
2:23:40 this week you can make money with
2:23:43 there's two of them people are asking
2:23:45 all the time in here how do I make money
2:23:46 with ch well Source Camp just sold one

2:23:55 with now what neither of them did was
2:23:59 make money with chat
2:24:02 BT what both of them did was solve very
2:24:06 specific problems for people using chat
2:24:10 GPT that's a really subtle difference

2:24:17 one you already know the problems in
2:24:21 whatever you're smart in whatever you've
2:24:24 got experience in you know the problems
2:24:26 that need to be solved if you can get AI
2:24:29 literate and solve those problems better

2:25:41 interview or audio overview and there's
2:25:43 a generate button here and you just hit
2:25:45 generate it'll take three or 4
2:25:47 minutes and it'll make you somewhere
2:25:50 between a 4 and 12 Minute
2:25:53 Podcast with the guy and the lady
2:25:55 talking about your
2:25:57 [ __ ] it could be an incomplete book it
2:26:00 could be a complete book it could be
2:26:03 some thesis you wrote in college it
2:26:05 could be some stupid [ __ ] idea you
2:26:08 had last night when you were
2:26:11 high I uploaded a huge amount of my
2:26:13 mother's handwritten recipes for her and
2:26:17 I'm going to make a cookbook [ __ ]
2:26:19 awesome
2:26:23 perfect this is and I don't know if you
2:26:25 were here over the weekend Corey but
2:26:26 like that's my my my homework assignment
2:26:29 for everyone over the weekend was find
2:26:31 some [ __ ] that's been laying around for
2:26:33 a bunch of years that that you've been
2:26:35 meaning to get to or or you know you

2:26:40 that cookbook that's perfect handwritten

2:26:58 that's awesome then you can make it a
2:27:00 custom GPT because you've made a ton of
2:27:02 those but you can also make it a book
2:27:04 then you can make it a kids book where
2:27:06 it simplifies the recipes for kids but
2:27:09 still retains their charm and
2:27:11 Essence it just goes on and on and
2:27:15 on and in fact you know you could
2:27:18 probably you know be fun Cory I don't
2:27:20 know if your mother's still
2:27:22 alive um if she is you could interview
2:27:24 her if not you know you could just
2:27:26 record yourself talking about the
2:27:29 recipes and you know your memories of
2:27:31 them and your memories of her cooking
2:27:33 them and and build into the cookbook The

2:27:39 everything and then make that into one
