117. 27:56family and so my family could hear me my messages were clear they were thinking of me they were thinking of wonderful memories it was
118. 28:07comforting I told my brother to make sure our mom keeps [Music] laughing and then I was able to reach my mom I couldn't stop
119. 28:23talking I told her about everything I was doing I told her I could ride horses inste still read and listen to music I could do anything I
120. 28:37wanted and that's what I did I went on Amazing [Music] Adventures I told her how I could still
121. 28:52play with my Power Rangers and that she would be amazed by them just like me and I have friends that love Power Rangers just as much as
122. 29:06me and I can play my music as loud as I want and it doesn't damage my ears and anything could be possible in our minds and our
123. 29:23memories when I read a book the characters come to visit me [Music] and don't ever forget Mom you can visit me

136. 31:48trouble but if you know anything about video production a 4minute narrative this is not just a video this is like a
137. 31:56real narrative right with scenes and special effects and rack zooms and angels and oceans orbs and the thing where she meets the the
138. 32:11angel where was that here like just the design of that alone yeah 11 Labs 11 labs for audio runway for for for the voice over to be a
139. 32:29goddess and she told me I am a messenger and mid Journey for the images yep perfect I am your guide in this place
140. 32:38here's the thing you know if you if you look at this from from the the outside even if you know how she might have made the images
141. 32:50in mid journey and how she might have made the video clips and how she might have made the music and the voice over if you if you don't know
142. 32:58storytelling this may still seem mysterious to you but what I can tell you what what I can what I know is that
143. 33:06this is a story that she's either wanted to tell for a long time or that she's told for a long time and she's now got
144. 33:11another way to express it because it's such a complete story it's it's such a complete story really moving really

156. 35:37exactly that's that's the thing is if you don't if you don't know anything about you know video production and you
157. 35:46know 3D production and rendering and and just all the stuff that that has to happen to make even 5 Seconds of film
158. 35:55the fact that we can now spin up an image drop it into mid journey and 30 seconds later have something that that
159. 36:02moves and as long as long as you know the elements of the story you want to tell you can you can really quickly just
160. 36:09go through it and and do it and there was just such nice consistency here whenever he's with the orbs you know he's in the other
161. 36:19place there's other elements that are green it's it's really comforting kind of color still play with my Power
162. 36:25Rangers and then she would be amazed by them just like [Music] me and I have friends that love Power Rangers just as much as me that's so

223. 46:22right so today we're going to dive into something kind of mindblowing yeah the future of intelligence it's a big one
224. 46:28but we're not talking you know like those Sci-Fi movies with robots taking over right this is different this is
225. 46:35about humans and AI like teaming up yeah to become something even smarter we could be on our own like unlocking
226. 46:43superpowers we never thought of exactly yeah and then the one that I just looked at earlier this one that jeie did Genie
227. 46:51and a bottle did this one it's fascinating really same voice there she is in and hooked actually suggests those
228. 47:00catchy Tunes those earworms might be tied to get this our survival instincts way back to our ancestors our ancestors
229. 47:07okay that's not where I expected this to go got to be honest what do they mean by that think of super cool and then I did a similar one

242. 49:38it the trick with the AI stuff is right there play first mindfully create generously lead just play with the tools the tools
243. 49:51are changing so fast and they're evolving so fast that it's actually impossible to master anything like chat GPT at this point is
244. 50:02probably a dozen tools all of which do slightly different things and all of which are complete rabbit holes in and
245. 50:10of themselves so you just play until you get your head a little bit around something and then you say hey I've got
246. 50:17a thing to do like cam I've got these three assignments for work this professional development stuff bang she
247. 50:23just knocked them out the minute you put the mindfully creative okay now I've got a specific problem based on what I've

261. 52:3601 preview right so this is the reasoning engine this is also the one that's got uh a 50 50 chat per week limit on it because
262. 52:46it's it's really expensive on their side the other one is chat 40 chap 4 Omni right um You can switch between those in
263. 52:56in the same chat so if your if your chat says hey you can't do any more of this just flip over to 40 here's what I would
264. 53:03also recommend under more models go back to the Legacy model of GPT 4 you may or may not remember but GPT 4
265. 53:15is a 1.8 trillion parameter model that's got 10 um 1.8 billion parameter experts it's called a mixture of experts
266. 53:29model the reason this one's Legacy and they've kind of buried it is this is also really expensive but it's it's a big beefy
267. 53:37model and it's really good at writing so if if you're stuck in in your writing you can flip between those three
268. 53:45models the other thing that I would strongly encourage you to do is take your notes or your new set of chapters
269. 53:52or just take your whole new 33 chapters plus all your notes go upload those into Claude because Claude has a
270. 54:01200,000 um token context window so it's like 150,000 words so you can probably put your entire 33 chapter novel or
271. 54:10Memoir plus your notes in there and still have a conversation with it so I would muck around with all four of those
272. 54:19gp4 Omni 01 preview and gp4 Legacy and and then Claude as well what you're going to find is all four of them are
273. 54:30going to write slightly differently and you might like the personality of how one of them writes better than the other

365. 1:09:15them so that's the only real control you have over them um you can't control the voices although if you want to get
366. 1:09:22creative in 11 Labs it's got a a voice too uh model where you could take his voice and swap that out with someone
367. 1:09:32else's voice so if you didn't want it to sound like everyone else's and you wanted to get creative you could go do
368. 1:09:37that um here's the idea that I had with Steve so Steve put his website for zero shoes he's the CEO of zero shoes he put
369. 1:09:49his website here and then it it did what it did and he wanted some way to control that so the idea that I had was was you
370. 1:09:56could create a separate PDF that's essentially a series of prompts that tells tells it where it should look and
371. 1:10:04what it should pay attention to so if you're making a podcast about this if you're doing a deep dive podcast about
372. 1:10:12you know zero shoes focus on the new products and don't talk about the old products and you know do this and don't
373. 1:10:18do that so I would think you could do some prompt injection um by by just putting it as is one of your uploaded PDF files that's
374. 1:10:27the only way you're going to get any control right now I assume that over time um Google May release an authoring
375. 1:10:36tool where we're going to be able to create our own versions of these where it might be you know like a newscast or
376. 1:10:42you know something that's different than this you know happy go-lucky back and forth podcast um but like

459. 1:21:58that seems like medieval now who could have predicted that electricity would change things so much exactly it's a
460. 1:22:06perfect example of how technology creates new opportunities even as it makes some old jobs Obsolete and the
461. 1:22:12article says the same thing will happen with AI some jobs will disappear but others jobs we can't even picture yet
462. 1:22:19will be created that's kind of exciting but also a little scary like how do you prepare for a a job that doesn't even
463. 1:22:25exist yet well that's the challenge isn't it right it feels almost impossible but it sounds like the article is saying that we need to be
464. 1:22:32like proactive instead of just freaking out about the robot apocalypse yes hang out at the AI learning lab in the sand
465. 1:22:38is not a good strategy the article emphasizes being open about the challenges AI brings you know having honest conversations about the tough

492. 1:25:53what what I'm going to actually do is I mean that that was good to hear them say that but I want to um I want to read
493. 1:26:03through it together because uh because I do because I think it's important to read it um and comment on it so in the
494. 1:26:11next couple of decades we will be able to do things that would have seemed like magic to our grandparents this Phenom
495. 1:26:16phenomenon is not new but will be newly accelerated people have become dramatically more capable over time we
496. 1:26:24can already accomplish things now that our predecessors would have believed to be impossible so I I find this kind of
497. 1:26:33fascinating framing from Altman because what he's saying here it's kind of fascinating what he's saying here is
498. 1:26:44that in the history of mankind there's there have already been dramatic improvements in how we do what we do
499. 1:26:53and here's how I'm reading that cuz he's opening the piece with this how I'm reading that is this isn't so
500. 1:26:59dramatically different that you should be afraid of it and regulate it away right what he's saying is this is just a
501. 1:27:07Continuum I would argue that this is not just a Continuum I I think that if if you've played with AI tools at all they
502. 1:27:16are our computers do not behave predictably anymore they used to behave predictably you would program them to do
503. 1:27:24a certain thing and they would do that thing predictably sometimes predictably bad but predictably and now the G in GPT the
504. 1:27:36generative is very very significant because they are generating new things new writings even new ideas and and for anyone that tells
505. 1:27:47you oh but they can't do new novel ideas that's horseshit we've we've actually experienced that here on this podcast
506. 1:27:54and they're going to get more and more capable of inventing in fact level four AGI is innovation and invention um once
507. 1:28:03once you combine reasoning and agents and you you know put them together to solve a problem then you know you get
508. 1:28:10invention okay um we are more capable not because of genetic change but because we benefit from the infrastructure of society being way
509. 1:28:21smarter and more capable than any one of us of us that's really important and that's really to true the the book that
510. 1:28:28I'm about to publish collective intelligence in the age of AI essentially makes that argument that why
511. 1:28:34this feels so magical sometimes is that the data set that we're tapping into is the collective intelligence of
512. 1:28:42everyone that's come before us our grandparents and the generations that came before them built and achieved
513. 1:28:49great things they contributed to the scaffolding of human process that we all better benefit from AI will give people
514. 1:28:56tools to solve hard problems and help us add new struts to the scaffolding we couldn't have figured out on our own the
515. 1:29:03story of progress will continue and our children will be able to do things we can't it won't come all at
516. 1:29:12once but we'll soon be able to work with AI to help us accomplish much more than we ever could without AI eventually we
517. 1:29:20can each have a personal AI team what they call level five AGI is organizations full of virtual experts in
518. 1:29:29different areas working together to create almost anything we can imagine so right now when you ask chat GPT something it'll it'll answer a
519. 1:29:40question or with the new reasoning engine it will think through a bigger problem and solve a multi-step
520. 1:29:47problem when we get to having reasoning agents that can be generated dynamically on our behalf we can just give them
521. 1:29:56goals like go start me a business and off it will go to start you a business um AI will give people tools to solve
522. 1:30:08hard problems and to help us add new struts to the scaffolder okay the story of progress will continue and our
523. 1:30:14children will be able to do things we can't it won't happen all at once but we'll be able to work with AI to help us
524. 1:30:20accomplish oh I've already read all this okay full of virtual experts in areas working together to create almost
525. 1:30:25anything we can imagine our children will have virtual tutors that can provide personalized instruction in any
526. 1:30:31subject in any language and at whatever Pace they need we can imagine similar ideas for Better Health Care the ability
527. 1:30:38to create any kind of software someone can imagine and much more with these new abilities we can have a shared
528. 1:30:47prosperity to a degree that seems unimaginable today in the future everyone's lives can be better better than anyone's life is now
529. 1:30:57Prosperity alone doesn't necessarily make people happy there are plenty of miserable rich people but it would
530. 1:31:03meaningfully improve the lives of people around the world here's one narrow look at human history after thousands of
531. 1:31:11years of compounding scientific discovery and technological progress we figured out how to melt sand add some
532. 1:31:19impurities arrange it with astonishing Precision at extraordinarily tiny scale into computer chips run energy through
533. 1:31:28it and end up with systems capable of creating increasingly capable artificial intelligence so he's basically saying we
534. 1:31:35we have computer chips and the computer chips are getting faster and faster um because of the um the Transformer architecture that
535. 1:31:50Google invented and and the Insight that seems like open AI had first although I don't I don't know if that's true but
536. 1:31:59they certainly had this Insight that the more data you throw at this Transformer architecture and the more compute power
537. 1:32:06you throw at it the better it gets and so the reason chat gp4 got it as good as it did is they just threw buckets and
538. 1:32:15buckets of compute power buckets and buckets of data and it did what it did and got really smart and that's why
539. 1:32:20we're where we are this may turn out to be the most consequential fact about all of history so far it is possible that we
540. 1:32:30will have superintelligence in a few thousand days so super okay AGI artificial general intelligence open AI their
541. 1:32:42mission is to achieve AGI not ASI AGI they've got five levels of it chatbot which we have reasoning which we just
542. 1:32:52got with 01 preview agents which I think we're going to get probably in October if not by the end of the year then
543. 1:33:01you've got um Innovations or inventors and then you've got organizations so those are the five levels of AGI above
544. 1:33:10that is AI ASI so AGI is generally um generally defined as systems that are capable autonomous systems that are capable of doing
545. 1:33:24the economically valuable work of most humans like median humans so being better at doing jobs than most humans ASI artificial super
546. 1:33:36intelligence is being able to to be better at work than essentially All Humans being Superior in intelligence to All Humans um he
547. 1:33:50says it is possible that we will have super intelligence in a few thousand days so 365 days so so let's call it a few thousand
548. 1:34:04let's call that 10 years um Ilia Suk left open AI he was the chief scientist there he left open AI to start
549. 1:34:18SSI which is a company called safe super intelligence they just raised a billion dollar on A5 billion valuation to create
550. 1:34:27super intelligence so the guy that was leading the leading smarts at open AI has left to basically skip AGI and go straight to
551. 1:34:37ASI um so so yeah so anyway there's that how did we get to the doorstep of the next leap of prosperity in three in in
552. 1:34:47three words deep learning worked in 15 words deep learning worked got predictably better with SC and we dedicated increasing resources to
553. 1:34:57it right the we dedicated increasing resources to it was hey Microsoft we need a billion dollars hey Microsoft we need 10 billion
554. 1:35:05dollar hey world we might need trillions of dollars right CU we might need to build our own chips we might need to
555. 1:35:13build our own electricity factories to power all these chips um I grew up in York Pennsylvania near 3 m Island which was decommissioned
556. 1:35:26after a rather famous situation guess what they're recommissioning Three Mile Island to generate electricity for data centers to train
557. 1:35:40AI so I heard I heard that yesterday um that's really it Humanity discovered an algorithm that could really truly learn any distribution of
558. 1:35:52data or really really the underlying rules that produce any distribution of data that is I wish he'd have said that
559. 1:36:00in a way in in words that were not quite so um PhD required but basically what it means is it can learn real
560. 1:36:09good it's got It's got good book smarts to a shocking degree of precision the more compute and data available the
561. 1:36:18better it gets at helping people solve hard problems I find that no matter how much time I spend thinking about this I
562. 1:36:26can never really inter internalize how consequential this is this this is the Insight that is why open AI is who they are this was the
563. 1:36:40realization that the more they threw at it the more data they threw at it the more compute power they threw at it the
564. 1:36:47better it got cuz don't forget they did gpt1 gpt2 gpt3 was the first model that all of a sudden started behaving in ways
565. 1:36:57that people said hey wait a minute this thing's really smart this is different and then we all experienced gp4 right in April of
566. 1:37:0823 was when gp4 hit the scene there are lots of details we have to still figure out but it's a mistake to get distracted by any particular
567. 1:37:19challenge deep learning works and we will solve the remaining problems we can see a lot of we can say a lot of things
568. 1:37:27about what may happen next but the main one is that AI is going to get better with scale and that will lead to
569. 1:37:34meaningful improvements in the lives of people around the world AI models will soon serve as autonomous assistants this
570. 1:37:42is important right this is level three AGI so we've got reasoning right now it's very limited it's very hobbled but
571. 1:37:52we've got it AI models will soon serve as autonomous personal assistants who carry out specific tasks on our behalf
572. 1:38:01like coordinating Medical Care on your behalf at some point further down the road AI systems may get so good that
573. 1:38:07they help us make better next Generation systems and make scientific progress across the board AI systems are going to get so
574. 1:38:16good they help us make better next Generation systems so that's that's the thing that the Sci-Fi writers worry about right
575. 1:38:25when the AI starts improving itself uh what what do what do we do these things are already way more powerful than we are I mean I would
576. 1:38:35argue right now that GPT 3.5 is significantly smarter than I am and gp4 Omni is significantly smarter
577. 1:38:46than that and GPT or than 01 preview is significantly smarter than that like I'm already assuming I'm in the
578. 1:38:56dust we're playing with the shitty tools and they're this good technology brought us from the Stone Age to the agricultural age and
579. 1:39:06then to the Industrial Age from here the path to the intelligence age is paved with compute energy and human will if we
580. 1:39:15put AI in the hands of as many people as possible and that's what they seem to be trying to do we need to drive down the cost of
581. 1:39:22compute and make it abundant now there's a couple of ways to drive that down the cost of compute one of the theories is you spend
582. 1:39:32lots and lots of money um training the models right which is super expensive and then you optimize them and quantize
583. 1:39:43them and make them smaller and smaller so you can run them locally right so if we've got increasingly powerful models that we can
584. 1:39:50run on our iPhone run on our local devices run on our laptop tops without having to go out and tax these data
585. 1:39:57centers um that's going to make a huge difference the risk he says here if we don't build enough infrastructure we'll be very AI will be
586. 1:40:11a very limited resource that Wars get fought over and becomes mostly a tool for rich people so this is to The Regulators invest in um energy
587. 1:40:22infrastructure we need to act wisely but with conviction the dawn of intelligence age is a momentous development with very
588. 1:40:31complex and extremely high stakes challenges it will not be an entirely positive story but the upside is so
589. 1:40:38tremendous that we owe it to ourselves and the future to figure out how to navigate the risks in front of us I
590. 1:40:45believe the future is going to be so bright that no one can do it justice by trying to write about it now I would I
591. 1:40:51would agree with that like I can't I I I have no way of I don't even understand the implications of 01 right
592. 1:40:59now I don't even know how to use it um but because I don't have PhD level problems to solve right um and it can do that all
593. 1:41:12right although it will happen incrementally astounding triumphs fixing the climate establishing space Colony a space colony and discovery of
594. 1:41:23all of physics will eventually become commonplace with nearly Limitless intelligence and abundant energy which
595. 1:41:32by the way AI will likely help us solve the Abundant the energy issue the ability to generate great ideas and the ability to make them
596. 1:41:43happen we can do quite a lot as we have seen with other Technologies there will also be downsides and we need to start working
597. 1:41:51now to maximize ai's benefits while minimizing its harms as one example we expect that this technology can cause significant change
598. 1:42:00in labor markets good and bad in the coming years most jobs will change more slowly than most people think I agree
599. 1:42:07with that I think it's going to be very fragmented for a while and I have no fear that we will run out of wait I have
600. 1:42:13no fear that we'll run out of things to do even if they don't look like real jobs to us today right so you might have
601. 1:42:21you know people doing juggling shows might all of a sudden become an important job because we want to make
602. 1:42:29people happier I don't I don't know we'll see um people have an innate desire to create and to be useful to
603. 1:42:36each other I agree with that and AI will allow us to amplify our own abilities this is something I say all the time
604. 1:42:41that AI is a Humanity amplifier AI will allow us to amplify our own abilities like never before as a society we will
605. 1:42:49be back in an expanding world and we can again Focus on playing positive sum games that would be nice wouldn't it
606. 1:42:58playing some positive sum games many of the jobs we do today would have looked like trifling wastes of time to people a
607. 1:43:06few hundred years ago but nobody is looking back at the Past wishing they were a Lamplighter if a Lamplighter could see the world
608. 1:43:14today he would think the prosperity all around him was unimaginable and if we could fast forward a 100 years from
609. 1:43:22today the prosperity all around us will feel just as unimaginable so there you have it uh um you know it this is a lot of chat TMZ

730. 2:03:31me what's important about this is the people that hang out here nightly I'm here five nights a week starting at 8:00 p.m.
731. 2:03:40mountain and we're just hanging out talking about what's going on with AI we are about to enter a gauntlet of
732. 2:03:48announcements over the next three or four months that are going to be absolutely [ __ ] insane I can barely get my head around
733. 2:03:59what's going on today like seriously like I'm like What's the AI salon so the AI Salon is a community of AI optimists so we
734. 2:04:11started this I started this group with Leah faston who's a a boston-based photographer the week after chat GPT came out
735. 2:04:23and we started it so so just to give you a little bit of my my background my history in the mid90s of the previous
736. 2:04:34Century I started one of the first digital web agencies there's a company called agency.com and it was so early here's
737. 2:04:44how early I was in in the internet that when we decided to start a company called the agent gency when I went to internic which is
738. 2:04:56where you went to go get do domains agency.com was available for free so I just registered it um it was very very early and so I
739. 2:05:07started a group in 1994 called the worldwide web artist Consortium which was a New York City based um just group
740. 2:05:16of people curious about the worldwide web way before anyone knew what the [ __ ] was going on with the world Wide Web
741. 2:05:22that didn't come until like 1999 like four years later so part of my part of my thing in life I guess is
742. 2:05:31paying attention to technology and I'm particularly passionate about the intersection of Storytelling and
743. 2:05:38technology and what the worldwide web represented to the internet chat GPT represents to Ai and here's what I mean by that prior to the
744. 2:05:51the worldwide web the internet was command line you had to be a geek you had to be a research scientist or a
745. 2:05:59librarian right or an engineer and you could use the internet you could trade files on FTP servers and [ __ ] like that
746. 2:06:08and then Tim burner Lee invents this thing that enables the creation of the web browser where you could click on
747. 2:06:15[ __ ] you could just do that to jump from server a to server B and it did matter if server a was in New York and server B
748. 2:06:24was in Paris you just did that and now you're in Paris so it took this profound power of inter networked computers and made it
749. 2:06:37accessible for the rest of us that's what chat GPT did for machine learning and Ai and that's what this Channel's
750. 2:06:45about is the world post chat GPT and that's what this community is about is now that we've all got access to these
751. 2:06:54incredibly powerful Technologies what the [ __ ] do we do with them and what this is not about is debating whether it's good or whether
752. 2:07:05it's bad or whether it's stealing or whether it's this or whether it's that you can have those conversations in
753. 2:07:10there but the philosophy with this Channel and with this community is independent of your opinion of whether AI is good or bad it's

786. 2:13:25bit we've never really had a technology before that essentially compresses all of human knowledge into a little ball that we can just peer
787. 2:13:43into all of human knowledge all of those connections all of those insights are now instant ly accessible by all of
788. 2:13:53us and they're getting better and better and better and better why you would not be excited about that why you would let a little thing
789. 2:14:07like fear of the existential dread of losing your value as a human why you would let that stop you right now is beyond
790. 2:14:18me because I I promise you so here's what I can promise you if you're new to this this AI [ __ ] what I can promise you is
791. 2:14:27this you owe it to yourself to play with AI long enough to have your first Kevin mallister moment which is this
792. 2:14:36moment and the first one of those you have you'll either be more excited than you've ever been or more scared than
793. 2:14:44you've ever been or both at the same time and then what happens is the more that you keep playing with this stuff

798. 2:15:32with I mean not for nothing but as much revenue as open AI is making they're spending way more than that on their
799. 2:15:41compute costs they're not making money they're they're bleeding money we're the beneficiaries of them raising 10 billion dollar and getting
800. 2:15:54access to all of Microsoft's server Farms so they make these models they compress all of human knowledge into
801. 2:16:01these things that we go play with we get to play with that and because of their little chat gbt experiment taking
802. 2:16:10off all of the investor community and all of the development Community has spent the past two years dumping all of
803. 2:16:18the brains and all of the money into this stuff so there's now a robust open-source Community there's a robust commercial
804. 2:16:29Community com competing with one another and we get to play with all this [ __ ] so if you're not playing with it get off the [ __ ]

837. 2:22:15being up to speed on what's possible and understanding where the boundaries are of what's not possible and as the tools get more

839. 2:22:31example of this 10:00 at night and just landed a new management client by scoring his manager sales call on a GPT I
840. 2:22:41made Jim Ross is in the storage management business and you're thinking oh yeah data storage management of course in Ai No not hard
841. 2:22:54drives padlocks and rat filled container buildings that kind of storage self storage management Jim Ross is one of
842. 2:23:08the most AI literate people I know and he consistently uses it like a practice every morning like like eating his
843. 2:23:18weedies he generates things for hiss business using AI 10:00 at night he just landed a client using a custom GPT he made to
844. 2:23:29analyze something for that client bang boom bing bang boom done it's amazing Source Camp sold my first GPT this week you can make money with
845. 2:23:42there's two of them people are asking all the time in here how do I make money with ch well Source Camp just sold one
846. 2:23:49Jim Ross just close business with one you can make money with now what neither of them did was make money with chat
847. 2:24:02BT what both of them did was solve very specific problems for people using chat GPT that's a really subtle difference but it's a huge
848. 2:24:17one you already know the problems in whatever you're smart in whatever you've got experience in you know the problems
849. 2:24:26that need to be solved if you can get AI literate and solve those problems better than the competitors you'll have a
850. 2:24:33business you'll make money with chat GPT so I would agree this group is Miles Ahead of most everyone else that's great
