36. 8:44polite man he's a professional as opposed to my myself um and I said yeah I'm I'm I'm the same way like I there hasn't been much in
37. 8:55fact the the the tarot card the tarot deck reinvention from last night was the first thing that I did where I was that
38. 9:05that I've done anything that has sort of lasted longer than the moment I'm doing it in and that was pretty cool I actually
39. 9:12had a good interaction with pi this morning it well it was actually it was good until it wasn't I'll I'll talk about that
40. 9:19too but but what we're going to do tonight is I'm going to build a GPT and I'm going to build so this is
41. 9:27going to be we're going to do kind of a deep dive and this is going to get boring so take a nap um you know put on Judge Judy I whatever is

52. 11:28it's actually important and it's funny one of our uh one of our board members called Monique today my co-founder and said I just said sat in
53. 11:36on this this uh big innovation Summit thing and and someone demoed their video AI stuff and he goes your stuff's way
54. 11:44better thanks yeah we know like we know it's it doesn't suck we're we've been doing this for a while but
55. 11:54um so so it's good but that that thing you're doing like demoing it for people at work demoing it you know just talking about it at
56. 12:06work cuz what what'll happen is if you're at one of those places where you're like I can't even talk about it
57. 12:11at work cuz it's banned we're not allowed to use AI talk about what you did on the weekend talk about the kids book you
58. 12:18made talk about the peanut butter cookie recipe you invented talk about you use Sin City sipper and came up with 50 drink recipes for
59. 12:28your Super Bowl party based on the booze you had in your cupboard someone reached out to me and told me he did that right cool fun
60. 12:35stuff I keep getting messages from Tik Tok to tell me to say hi to you it's been a while hi Becky Ru well good for Tik Tok look at Tik
61. 12:45Tock just connecting us like old Pals it has been a while but good to see you I see you on Tik Tok every now and
62. 12:53again so I don't feel like and I certainly see you in here um but thank you for saying hi um I don't I don't feel disconnected from

65. 13:25actually using these tools very few it's somewhere in the neighborhood if I'm I'm going to say at this point it's probably like 75% or
66. 13:34more somewhere between 75 and 82% it was 82% back in uh November have not used chat GPT not only haven't made images and
67. 13:46haven't done this haven't done that I haven't even used chat GPT like write me a poem about a wet dog and
68. 14:03and these tools are getting way more powerful very very quickly did you remember your laptop yes I did I am I am all set up as if I were a
69. 14:11professional um these tools are getting way more powerful way more quickly and and you know there's evidence
70. 14:23that things are starting to happen and and one of the big ones for for me was when open AI re released the or announced Sora their video
71. 14:36model I think it was three or 4 days after that there was a big story in variety the the Hollywood rag that Tyler Perry cancelled an $800
72. 14:48million Studio extension after seeing Sora after seeing that video model I did an Oscar pool with AI for work today oh that's that's
73. 14:58a that's a perfect that's you know what Jay Jay Winston Welsh that's a perfect use of AI right use it to do the the
74. 15:06Oscar ballots right perfect use because everyone's like oh that's kind of cool how did you do that so quickly did you
75. 15:12download it off the internet no I just wrote it up for you I use chat GPT oh you can do that oh I didn't know it
76. 15:19could do I thought it I thought it it its latest information was 1927 um I told my doctor uploaded blood
77. 15:29work into AI he's fascinated over its responses oh that's fascinating I I did he did he laugh at it or was he like oh
78. 15:38that knows as much as I do that's that's pretty curious um that's super cool so talk about this stuff because here's what's going to
79. 15:50happen there's going to be I don't know there's going to be a dozen more high-profile stories or 20 or 50 it doesn't really
80. 16:04matter where AI changes something like changes it dramatically so for me Tyler Perry was the first one that was like the first shoe to
81. 16:17drop and there's like I'm seeing like little slivers of like of the 42,000 Tech workers laid off some high percentage is attributed to
82. 16:27AI you starting to see little things like that but what's going to happen is it's going to become apparent to a lot of
83. 16:36people oh [ __ ] I got to get my [ __ ] together oh [ __ ] ai's coming right we're not there yet but there's like there's
84. 16:46Rumblings I can feel I can feel the Earth rumbling a bit and I think it's going to be this year there's there's going to be either
85. 16:55a GPT 5 drops or like a sexier version of Gemini or Sora or just something like we don't know Apple you know June is not
86. 17:07that far away and Apple's going to drop a 10 to 100 time improved version of Siri the I I saw a tweet yesterday I
87. 17:18think from the Siri product manager at Apple who said shortterm Siri's going to get way better longterm Siri's going to
88. 17:28get a amazing some version of that hell I was laying out laying on an ER gurnie talking with the nurses about AI a few
89. 17:37weeks ago Jim Ross had a great chat I hope you're okay I saw you today so so hey Siri go
90. 17:51away go okay I found this okay you can't talk about her she gets very jealous you probably already talked
91. 18:02about Nvidia no what the [ __ ] happened with Nvidia which you mean them hitting their fourth quarter
92. 18:09earnings or or their or their CEO saying that you don't need to learn coding anymore that that telling your kids to
93. 18:17learn to code is no longer what you should be doing which which Nvidia story yeah Three Mile Storage is Jim Ross I just doubted you Jim

99. 19:11for a Beachside sunglasses vendor today that's awesome he couldn't get away he's like uh lady I got other
100. 19:24customers you're like I don't see any other customers here look what else it does oh my goodness goodness goodness wait
101. 19:34what was that will uh why is AI not been shut down due to copyright infringement it clearly has trained on others rights
102. 19:44so so what's this what what you're asking Merlin is a great question with a not great answer um
103. 20:03when AI models are trained when when the the stuff goes through the training set it ceases to exist in its current form one
104. 20:13of the misconceptions about chat GPT and the image diffusion models and things like that is that They're copying and
105. 20:22pting other people's work and it's it's simply not the case um it's more like the equivalent of the like the G and GPT
106. 20:32stands for generative this stuff's being generated and the nature of how it works when you see something that you
107. 20:40know resembles something someone else did it may resemble it but it resembles it kind of like if I went to art school
108. 20:49for four years and studied nothing but pop art and Keith Herring and Andy Warhol and all that sort of [ __ ] and I
109. 20:56came out of art school and all of my work was influenced by that it some of it would probably look like that it's it's more akin to
110. 21:04that and it there's a another metaphor might be you know these things turn into what are called vectors they're like mathematical points in
111. 21:13space and then the diffusion models are a bunch of Highly noised images that were tagged with with words about what
112. 21:22was on those images when they originally created and they exist as sort of these noise images and when you a search it
113. 21:30filters out all the words that are not relevant finds images that are tagged and it averages them all together in a
114. 21:37single noised image and just denoises that with the same algorithm that noised all the original images it literally doesn't know what it's
115. 21:46creating that said a lot of these things have been trained on training on on stuff that's been copywritten at the core of the New
116. 21:57York Times law lawsuit is you know you train up on all of our stuff if you listen to Sam alman's response at Davos
117. 22:04it's really interesting he says the reason we were cutting a deal with the New York Times wasn't about the training
118. 22:11data we don't need the New York Times for training data it was for when people do a search we wanted to be able to search the New
119. 22:20York Times database and pull it up as citations and give them a branded thing and we wanted to pay for that but he said the training day he
120. 22:29goes there's so much data in these models that that how did he he the metaphor he used was if you're trying to learn High School level
121. 22:41biology after the third book the books get less and less relevant right if if you've if you've learned biology from 2,000 books the
122. 22:522001st book isn't all that interesting he said the other problem with training on the New York Times is even if they trained on the New York
123. 23:04Times data at New York times.com which I don't know if they did but even if they did how many times have New York Times
124. 23:12articles been copy and pasted out on the Internet or sections of them out into articles like millions they have no way of stopping
125. 23:24that right so think of think of of the training sets of these large language models and of the image generation models and
126. 23:33things like that are more akin to a library or a museum where we're taking the collective output of humanity and putting it in a
127. 23:43model that we all get to collaborate with now is that fair to someone it might not be um is there a way to easily track if
128. 23:58if I take this little grain of sugar and I toss it in a bowl and put a bunch of other sugar in it and flour in it and
129. 24:06butter and eggs and stuff and I Stir It Up and I stick it in the oven and it bakes it into a cake and that cake comes
130. 24:13out can I find that grain of sugar again and then how much is that grain of sugar worth like that's the kind of minutia
131. 24:21that we're talking about here so there's not a good answer for it um the the um the companies haven't been shut down
132. 24:34I don't think because it's a very gray area and there is there is a there is a massive benefit to humanity
133. 24:44argument here and and there's a really difficult technical argument here for those you know claiming copyright like
134. 24:53the the Sarah Silverman all the all the people that were suing uh uh mid Journey or not mid Journey was it mid Journey no it was open Ai
135. 25:06and Google whoever the hell they were suing I think four out of five of their cases got thrown out of court already
136. 25:14because they they can't prove that you know you you can you can write a clever prompt to get it to give you something
137. 25:21very close to what Sarah Silverman wrote but it's it's not copying and pasting from her work and that's relatively easy
138. 25:28to prove so so I don't know it's listen I understand the anger I understand the rage what I would strongly encourage you
139. 25:35to do is get educated on how these models work and I would you know I would get I would get AI literate I'd start using
140. 25:48them because here's the thing that you're going to you're going to be able to do I'm this I'm fairly confident on
141. 25:53Adobe is already building this system what adobe's done which I think is a a more responsible way to do
142. 26:06this is they trained their image models on public domain images and images that they owned outright for Adobe
143. 26:14stock and then they're allowing artists to opt out or opt into being a part of the Adobe training set and then if you opt into it they
144. 26:28figuring out ways to do attribution and compensation and I think what that's going to look like is rather than trying to
145. 26:36track was your model used on the output side which is the way copyright law is right now you produce all this work and
146. 26:43people go you stole my [ __ ] I'm going to sue you I think what ad adobe's going to do is say if you're if you've got an
147. 26:53official model in the Adobe system you get paid on the generation side so if someone wants to use a Kyle Shannon branded photography
148. 27:03model for photographs that I took they can select my name and say I want to create an image based on this model and
149. 27:11it's it's my official model and and Adobe will allow me to have attribution and get compensated for that it's not
150. 27:17there yet but they're talking about that and I see that being a really big business so rather than fighting on the scraps on the output side
151. 27:29as we're moving into a world of infinite content generation get educated about how the models actually work and get involved in
152. 27:39projects where you get attribution on the input side on the generation side isn't the analogy like a doctor they
153. 27:45read books and they train they make a diagnosis chat GPT it's very much like that it's the these things are modeled after the
154. 27:55way our brains work they're a much more simplified version of the way our brains work but they're not dissimilar go
155. 28:01listen to Jeffrey Hinton who's called the grandfather of AI his most recent talk he talks about this he says he says large language
156. 28:12models are intelligent in a very similar way to the way humans are intelligent how do you think AI will impact healthc care thoughts I think
157. 28:20it's going to be I think it's going to be profound um and and really dramatic but I think Healthcare healthare anywhere
158. 28:29where you've got human lives at stake are going to move way slower healthc care moves incredibly slow so if you're talking about things
159. 28:38like treatment and virtual nursing and virtual therapy and virtual um support in that kind of way I think
160. 28:48that's going to go slower I think you're always going to have humans in the loop there where where I think healthc care
161. 28:55is going to accelerate dramatically is on the research side right so you've got Alpha fold from Deep Mind predicted 400,000 protein
162. 29:06folding things but I don't know apparently they take a lot of compute power to figure out how the [ __ ]
163. 29:13proteins are going to fold it's really complicated our bodies suck they're really complicated and Deep Mind from
164. 29:21Google they created this thing called Alpha fold and it just predicted 400,000 of these things and just they're proving
165. 29:29to be right or very very close to it very very high uh predictability score Deep Mind followed that up with creating this isn't in healthare
166. 29:44but it this some of it will will affect health care about two months ago they put a they put out a paper in nature magazine they
167. 29:55invented 2.2 million new materials of which 380,000 were stable crystals which I don't know [ __ ] about Material Science but I what
168. 30:09what I do know is when you say things like stable crystals you start thinking of things like Battery Technology and you know energy
169. 30:18transmission and you know uh room temperature superconductors which by the way looks like there were some breakthroughs in
170. 30:26that to put the 380,000 new stable crystals into perspective human beings up to that point had discovered
171. 30:4122,000 and then human beings plus computer models computer simulations or computer whatever analysis discovered another
172. 30:5244,000 so you had 66,000 known stable crystals for all of humanity and deep mind just dumped 380,000 onto that World
173. 31:11overnight so I think I think I think the impacts on Health Care like once once we can use AI to do things
174. 31:21like completely decode the genome and how how all this [ __ ] works and how disease works and how it's vulnerable
175. 31:28and susceptible once you start to crack the nut of single diseases just dominoes are going to start to fall is it true
176. 31:37that you can get thinking images from brain scans yes there this made the news a lot more about 6 months ago but I I assume things
177. 31:46are still going on so uh down in the University of Texas in Austin um they were doing fmri scans of people that were watching video and then
178. 31:58they took those scans and recreated the video they took scans of brain patterns of people watching video and
179. 32:08they recreated them after training them on the tra data set they also did that with images I think they did it with
180. 32:14images in real time they also did um there's a guy in Italy paraplegic motorcycle accident you know lost the use of his
181. 32:26legs they did an fmri scan this this [ __ ] insane told him to think about moving his legs so they were fmri scanning him
182. 32:39he' think about moving his legs so they trained the model on that and then sent the signals from electrodes in his brain Bluetooth them
183. 32:51around his injury to electrodes that were in his lower spine connected to the nerves in his legs and now he's walking so
184. 33:04yeah I think everything from Vision to hearing to brain injury to um congenital diseases all that sort
185. 33:16of stuff is going to be impacted really really dramatically um I do think that anywhere where you've got human lives at
186. 33:24stake it's going to move slower right so airplane you know Air Traffic Control uh we're going to want humans in the room doctors
187. 33:34you know surgeries I mean they've had robotic surgery now for since I was young right 20 30 40 years um now with
188. 33:44AI assists it's getting really really really good you know if you look at what they're doing with drones drones flying
189. 33:50around are getting really good so a AI assisted robotic surgery is going to be you know going to be big massive so
190. 33:59yeah so I think it's going to be big here's here's another thing where I think healthcare is going to be dramatically
191. 34:04impacted so Google when they when they release Gemini they release three models Gemini Ultra which is the Big Daddy we
192. 34:12haven't really we we can play with it now but it's not the it's not the fancy one Google pro and Google Nano Google Nano was is designed to
193. 34:22live on to to function on mobile devices without an internet connection um anthropic Claude they just released
194. 34:37three different models of Claude the smallest one is called Haiku that's designed to run locally on on not super powerful devices can't wait
195. 34:47for AI to help to defeat cancer no [ __ ] I I'm I'm in the uh the uh lime disease Camp I'm ready for it to cure [ __ ] lime disease I
196. 34:59have two two sons upstairs that are [ __ ] just devastated by that [ __ ] disease cuz it's not one disease it's like 12 so yeah
197. 35:13yeah um oh but anyway so and and then Apple all of their new silicon the M1 M2 and M3 chips all have pretty significant
198. 35:26machine learning capabil abilities and they're developing the software to be able to run [ __ ] on it so I think what
199. 35:32you're going to see is Siri is likely going to get really really good my guess is a lot of her processing is going to happen locally on your
200. 35:43device so imagine having something that as capable as gpt3 maybe even gp4 that can just run locally on a phone without
201. 35:53connection to the rest of the world and go anywhere in the world that doesn't have high quality medical Medical Care high quality medical
202. 36:04education and just all of a sudden on that device is all the diagnosis stuff the stuff that that Becky was talking
203. 36:12about earlier I uploaded my blood chart to this thing and had AI do it imagine being able to do that anywhere in the
204. 36:18[ __ ] world even without internet connection and obesity yes exactly so so yeah so I think it's going to be massive but
205. 36:32it's why I'm so passionate about this why I keep coming to these things it's not just going to be the medical field
206. 36:38it's going to be every field that Material Science thing I talked about it's going to be every field it's
207. 36:44going to be mathematics it's going to be science it's going to be Consulting it's going to be art it's going to be film
208. 36:50making it's going to be music composition it's going to be music production it's going to be live performance is going to be dramatically
209. 37:00impacted by this stuff all of it everything anything that's at all computer mediated is going to be transformed in
210. 37:11the next 5 years like transformed like we won't do it the same way we used to and and a lot of the bad press right now
211. 37:20with AI is the fear of that change right the going to take our jobs the AI the robots are going to do our jobs what are
212. 37:29we going to do it's going to take our jobs it's going to take some and it's going to generate a lot it's going to generate a lot of
213. 37:39jobs what are they I have no [ __ ] idea but I know I I I know cuz I I started one of the early digital ageny
214. 37:50like I know the world of advertising agencies what I can promise you is that the way advert iing agencies
215. 37:58do what they do is going to transform dramatically P I'm jazzed about our dystopian future it's so true he is I think any
216. 38:13agency I think any agency that doesn't get real serious about Reinventing their business model
217. 38:28is going to be in trouble any agency and like and there and I'll tell you specifically what I mean in the ad
218. 38:40business how you make your money is the billable hour so the longer people work the more money you make from the holding
219. 38:52companies down that's the business model that's how when when holding companies buy agencies I sold my agency to Omnicom
220. 39:00so I know I know this from firsthand they do what's called an earnout and the earnout is is based on if you make a dollar of Revenue we'll
221. 39:11pay you four and we'll do that for the next five years so go make as much money as you can go acquire companies go grow your
222. 39:19revenue and so it is built into the structure like like at the at the DNA level of holding companies and ad agencies is sell more billable
223. 39:33hours and along comes a technology that says oh that thing that used to take you two weeks I can now do that in an hour
224. 39:43with with a human sitting there you know editing it and making it good I can do it in five minutes and have it suck but
225. 39:51I can do it in an hour and have it be good what happens to the rest of those billable hours
226. 40:57far behind on this stuff why haven't they innovated they haven't innovated cuz they didn't have to they had an effective
227. 41:04Monopoly search was search and that was it and you did it the Google way or you just go [ __ ] yourself and they did it for more than a
228. 41:16decade like in the in the 90 plus percent of search so they have they they have no incentive to innovate and they are
229. 41:32structurally incapacitated because they optimized for printing money having an effective Monopoly and then Along Comes shitty little Sam
230. 41:44mman he's like oh Microsoft likes us they gave us a billion dollars here's this thing called chat gbt yay and a 100 million people use chat
231. 41:56GPT in the first six weeks and goo it was called I think it was called a red alert Google went into Red Alert they brought back Sergey Bren
232. 42:05and Larry pige uh guys come back you're head of AI uh help Google [ __ ] invented the Transformer the T in GPT not sure if you knew
233. 42:19this stands for Transformer that Google invented this is absolutely one of those I can't believe we're losing to these guys
234. 42:34situations that is my exact Kevin McAllister moment super excited I don't know which one I said but that's super
235. 42:45cool so Google's kind of screwed because their whole business model the entire business model is based on making making you
236. 42:57click as many times as possible after you search search here's all the results click click click click click comparing all of Google to one
237. 43:10model no it's so that yeah that's not fair pay it's it's not all it's not a single model within Google but it but
238. 43:16it's the large majority of it is advertising Revenue unlike Microsoft Google can't fall back on massive software sales or well they
239. 43:26probably have some decent cloud services but it's dwarfed by advertising right so the bulk of the revenue comes from getting you to click

245. 44:39Consolidated and then over the years that changed right it became here's how we do banners here's how we do websites
246. 44:47everything got templatized all the creativity got bled out of it it you know companies like Google and Facebook
247. 44:54and Twitter emerge as the sort of big three logos that represent most of the internet traffic um I actually think that meta right now
248. 45:11this is this is kind of weird and ironic and it it's going to be interesting to see what they do with llama
249. 45:163 I think meta op sourcing llama 2 commercially makes makes it much more likely
250. 45:32that we're all going to get to play with with very powerful AI for a long long time that it that it won't get that it won't consolidate down
251. 45:42into um three companies what capitalism says is it will right what capitalism says is it it will consolidate into three
252. 45:55companies 20 30 years from now um but I think this AI stuff's going to [ __ ] up the H like I think it's G to I
253. 46:09think it's going to fundamentally alter where the power is in the economic drivers of society and so I think there's going to be a massive
254. 46:23battle where the centers of Power are do everything they [ __ ] can to resist losing control not to AI but to people using AI
255. 46:37to [ __ ] with like like what I what I said about the the advertising holding companies billions and billions of
256. 46:44dollars right billions and billions of dollars if they resist what's coming too long they're going to get upended that
257. 46:55that whole industry is just going to get turn into total chaos and I think that happens in every industry on probably
258. 47:02different timelines but this is not like slight little changes it's like your fundamental core business model gets flipped upside
259. 47:13down so they're going to resist this [ __ ] hard they're going to try to shut some [ __ ] down but if you've got opsource models that
260. 47:29are gp4 strong GPT 5 strong um you can't put that Genie back in the bottle but didn't Microsoft jump the AI
261. 47:41train to reinvigorate their software model that was stagnated yeah they absolutely did and and what it what it
262. 47:48allows Mike what it allows Microsoft to do is and and the the CEO of Microsoft said this what allows Microsoft to do is lose money
263. 48:03on co-pilot they don't they don't have to charge for it they can put it out there get people to use that try to take I
264. 48:11think I forget what it was the every point of share that they gain from Microsoft and search is worth like $2
265. 48:20billion do to them a year something like that Google is the fifth iteration of AI specific Hardware remember that they're
266. 48:27invested i p I don't I don't disagree that that Google is is probably technically Superior on a lot of this I'm just saying from a
267. 48:39business model perspective unraveling the structures that have been put in place over the last 10 or 15
268. 48:53years having an effective Monopoly isn't going to happen overnight and a company like open AI That's got 800 employees
269. 49:00can turn on a [ __ ] dime like that's that's where Google's kind of [ __ ] right now sans's capitalism we'd still have horses instead of
270. 49:10cars yeah so that this is so big boy pants good name for this discussion this is this is this is big boy pants kind
271. 49:19kind of [ __ ] going on um um this is the whole point that Sam Alman said that that he now has emails that says Elon Musk clearly
272. 49:30understands that they couldn't raise enough money as a nonprofit to build the AI that they need to build if they want to get to AGI they
273. 49:43need buckets of money Sam hman right now is trying to raise 5 to7 trillion dollar in capital like in like Hey brother can
274. 49:54you spare a trillion 5 to7 trillion for software no to build a chip manufacturing industry that would dwarf
275. 50:11Nvidia because we need that much compute power and if you watch the the recent interview with the Nvidia CEO he
276. 50:19agrees we need as much compute power as we can possibly like we need more than we can imagine so yeah we need capitalism to do
277. 50:31this I think that the meta thing will balance it out to keep it from going to just a few like the the concern that
278. 50:37Elon Musk has which I think is valid is if the most powerful AI are trapped inside two or three companies they can just
279. 50:49effectively take over the world and that's the fear but by meta open sourcing their foundational models and apparently what they're
280. 51:01training llama 3 on is [ __ ] insane like 600,000 gpus which probably doesn't mean much but put it in perspective for you

391. 1:10:06nodes which are significant points in astrology where the moon's orbit intersects the Earth's orbit around the
392. 1:10:13Sun the North Node and the South node how [ __ ] cool is that like Bang by adding these two cards we maintain the 14 card structure for
393. 1:10:25the orb suit and brought in the astrological scope of the Tarot deck um and so the North Node represents
