7:49 is I put out a video over the weekend so
7:51 last night while I was watching
7:54 the the fruitball game the uh Detroit
7:58 Lions game which is actually a really

8:03 realized about sports
8:07 is I don't give too much of a [ __ ] about
8:10 it but but it's something to pass the
8:13 time that's got you know some level of
8:16 drama to keep me a little bit
8:19 engaged like like I watched the uh the
8:22 Nascar championship weekend so I watch
8:24 the truck championship and then the
8:26 infinity championship and then the and
8:28 then the Cup
8:31 Championship and they were
8:37 fine I don't like Phoenix as a race
8:39 track so but

8:46 football game but while I was watching
8:47 the football game I made a cool video I
8:50 made a video that that was inspired by
8:54 an
8:56 old a film that was made in I think in
8:59 the late late 80s um called Co scoty by
9:02 Jeffrey Regio and it had
9:05 um Philip Glass did the the score for

9:20 it I was sort of inspired by Kelly Bosch
9:23 who puts out she seems to put out a
9:26 video a night and I was like well she
9:28 just kind of does it sitting on her C
9:30 just is what she

9:35 said saw that MJ was suing NASCAR
9:39 Michael Jordan is
9:43 huh wonder what for didn't see

9:50 that I'm now more a bigger F1 fan than I

23:28 can see a little bit of what I'm doing

23:33 click on my name up in the corner there
23:36 and click on Youtube it'll take you to
23:38 the AI learning lab Channel um okay so
23:42 in the late 80s um Jeffrey Reggio and
23:46 Philip Glass put together this film
23:47 called Coan scatti and Coan Scotti was a
23:52 Native American term I think for life
23:54 out of
23:55 balance and I thought it was a quite
23:58 remarkable film and it's it's always
23:59 kind of stuck with me and one of the
24:02 things that it did was it just cut from
24:04 all these sort of either time lapse or
24:06 slow motion um shots of cities and and
24:11 you know sort of cities encroaching on
24:13 nature and nature doing its thing and
24:16 and it just had this beautiful
24:17 minimalist minimalist
24:19 thing and so I thought you know one of
24:22 the nice things to do in editing is is
24:27 is sort of repeat a camera shot so
24:30 repeat a push in or repeat a repeat a
24:32 pull out and so I thought could we do
24:35 that so in my in my
24:40 uh in my quest to no longer use my
24:44 brain um rather than think about like
24:47 what were all the shots I need I just
24:49 said give me 20 epic landscape prompts
24:52 and describe them as if they were anel
24:54 Adams or George O Keef black and white
24:55 photos without mentioning their names um
24:59 use as much detail as
25:01 possible um with the prompt um include
25:05 film type dark room techniques to
25:06 capture their style so so this was I did
25:09 this inside of a a a
25:13 uh a chat gbt thing I did where I had it
25:16 design mid Journey prompts so this this
25:19 chat already has a mid Journey prompt
25:21 technique in it and so it just generated
25:25 a whole pile of prompts
25:28 of you know photograph of a densed
25:31 forest ancient redwoods their trunks
25:32 stretching up upward beyond the frame
25:34 the sunlight filtering through the thin
25:37 faint beams captured in a medium format
25:39 film right so I just did a whole bunch
25:41 of these then I went over
25:43 to Mid journey and I literally just
25:47 copied and pasted so to John's point no
25:49 I didn't do any pixel pushing I did I
25:53 did copy and paste prompting and in came
25:55 the images and so I just went through
25:59 here and I found images that I thought
26:01 like this one I thought that would
26:02 probably animate pretty well it's it's
26:05 kind of interesting
26:07 visually and so I just took I think I
26:10 took all 20 of those prompts from chat
26:13 GPT dumped them into mid
26:16 journey and like some of them came came
26:18 out in color which I didn't want and I
26:20 wasn't wild about these but this one was
26:23 fine and then these were cool this one
26:25 it put a it put a person in
26:28 this one is Big redwoods but they're in
26:31 color and I just wanted black and white
26:33 and again my goal here wasn't wasn't to
26:36 make Pixel Perfect art my goal here was
26:41 to
26:44 um to just have some interesting images
26:48 that I could then animate right and so I
26:50 just went through here and I just
26:51 downloaded a bunch of
26:57 these These are pretty cool this one I
26:59 thought was really beautiful it's got a
27:01 little color on

27:15 um and like this one was a beautiful
27:17 like that's very anel
27:19 Adams
27:21 right so then I went over to Luma
27:26 labs and I just copied and pasted all
27:29 these things in
27:31 there and then I just you know Wind
27:33 Blows
27:34 dramatically um in slow motion as the
27:37 camera pulls
27:39 out so I just made
27:44 individual little videos of each of the
27:48 shots and again I wasn't I wasn't doing
27:51 anything here like I didn't really give
27:53 too much of a [ __ ] like if it was really
27:56 bad like
28:00 like that rotation is too fast and all
28:02 of a sudden the colors
28:04 turn um it like adds color it goes from
28:08 black and white to sort of in color so
28:11 like that was shitty so then I redid
28:14 that one with just a different prompt to
28:16 make the water in slow
28:21 motion and then with each of these just
28:23 sort of pulled them
28:26 out so then I had
28:29 you know some amount of
28:31 shots right I was like oh God now I got
28:34 to edit them so I went over to I oh
28:37 before I went to iMovie I thought I've
28:38 gota I've gotta come up with some um
28:42 songs or a
28:45 song and
28:51 so oh let
28:53 me let me share this hang on a
28:57 sec cuz would be cool to hear these

29:39 I found out about sunno is that you
29:41 can't you can't give it artist names but
29:44 you can give it album names so so if you
29:47 want something like American Idiot um
29:51 you know sort of you know um driving
29:54 rock or driving Punk or whatever Green
29:57 Day is you can say you can say that but
29:59 you can't say Green Day um so that's
30:01 interesting but I just did Melancholy
30:03 piano solo with weary strings that evoke
30:06 emotions of watching vast Landscapes
30:09 right so I just did kind of a dreary a
30:11 dreary prompt

31:55 that I like about this approach is
31:59 like you could just keep making raw
32:02 assets and just keep making raw assets

32:12 creation so like I just made a ship pile

32:16 these one of them down here this one is
32:19 one minute long and so this is the one I
32:21 ended up using so there were plenty up
32:23 here that that I could use but this one
32:25 kind of ended

33:25 so and this is I don't really know
33:26 iMovie at all so so I basically did a
33:29 fade up from black and then threw in a
33:31 title and like here's all the here's all
33:34 the movies I imported here's the song I
33:35 imported and I literally just put put
33:38 them in at their default times I didn't
33:40 time it to the music at all I just did
33:42 cross fades in between all the things
33:44 and then I think for the last thing I
33:45 slowed it down and Faded it out right so
33:49 that at the
33:54 end oh wait you're not looking at this
33:56 hang on God damn it
33:59 this this screen sharing nonsense is
34:08 nonsense all right anyway so this is
34:11 what I was talking about before so I'm
34:13 mean iMovie right now so I just dragged
34:15 all the Clips in here here's the song

34:22 the timeline threw cross Fades between
34:24 them went over to titles found a title
34:27 that I like dragged that on there for
34:29 you know just longer than its Default

34:39 enough content that it
34:42 matched the song Perfectly

37:17 and I I discovered a couple of of fun
37:19 things um
37:22 about using canvas um which I liked so

37:59 so in Luma Labs they've got this cool
38:01 new
38:02 thing where they've got camera move so
38:06 if if in your prompt so I can I can
38:08 upload an image here so let's go to do I
38:12 have my downloads yeah so there's an
38:15 image so if I bring that image
38:17 in you know I can say um
38:21 man wrinkles his face and then I say as
38:27 camera and the mini you type in camera
38:29 it gives you all these camera
38:33 moves um so we could
38:36 say we'll pull out as he wrinkles his
38:42 face and so I
38:46 wanted I wanted chat GPT to write
38:49 prompts that that knew all those camera
38:52 moves um and I wanted the specific
38:54 camera moves for for dream machine for
38:57 Luma abbs
39:00 um but you can't if I type in
39:04 camera there's no way you can copy and
39:06 paste these they they don't have it so
39:08 you can copy and paste them so I could
39:09 have typed them but I'm
39:12 lazy so what I did was I screenshotted
39:14 them and then I uploaded them to to chat
39:18 GPT and I said these are camera moves
39:20 please list them out so it wrote them
39:22 all out so now it knows them right so
39:24 that's that's what all these are um
39:27 which kind of dug
39:29 that and then I said now do you know
39:32 about the film Co a scoty and it says
39:34 yes here's Co a scoty and did I spell it
39:36 right no I put a u in it whatever um but
39:40 Jeffrey resio mic music by Philip Glass
39:42 the title is from the Hy language
39:44 meaning life out of
39:46 balance um so it's it's essentially a
39:49 plotless dialogue free relying instead
39:51 on visuals and music to convey the
39:53 themes and it it shows life out of
39:55 balance and then there were follow-up
39:56 films of pazi
39:58 and nakaki I think it's called um were
40:02 the were the
40:03 follow-ups um and then I
40:05 said can you give me a shot of locations
40:08 in that film and the kinds of shots used
40:12 and so it it it knows all the shots in
40:15 the film because it was written so long
40:16 ago oh wait hang on let me let me do
40:19 that for the Tik tocker sorry about that
40:26 um and and so so it had all these shots
40:30 and then what I said
40:32 was here are the
40:35 techniques and I said if you were to
40:37 distill the story down into a two-minute
40:39 film and update the locations to be
40:41 modern today and today's issues create
40:45 an outline that would tell an evocative
40:47 story that is in honor of the original
40:50 not a replica of it right so I wanted to
40:52 do like a a nod to KO and a scoty but
40:54 not knock it off and so then it gave me
40:58 you know opening shot green lens melting
41:01 glaciers um Urban expansion sequence 2
41:05 so it gave me a bunch of stuff which is
41:07 kind of
41:08 cool
41:12 um and then I said great now I'd like
41:14 you to create individual shot prompts so
41:17 so I wanted it to create
41:18 individual prompts for the specific
41:23 locations gave it some specifics and
41:26 then it did that so sequence one shot
41:28 one sequence One Shot Two
41:31 um it gave me kind of generic locations
41:35 and so I told it after it generated all
41:37 this stuff I said no I want specific
41:39 locations I don't want anything generic
41:40 in here give me specific
41:43 locations um understood here's a list of
41:45 specific locations so Buckeye Utah Katy
41:48 Texas new Clark City
41:50 Philippines and so it even created so
41:53 sequence one Urban expansion sequence
41:56 two industrial farming and
41:58 deforestation um and so it went through
42:01 and did this and so I'm I'm sort of
42:03 building on this refining it refining
42:05 it um then I had it write the prompts
42:08 and then I wanted it to do multiple
42:10 shots within the prompts okay there's a
42:13 poll on tiktock hang on a sec let me
42:15 take a look at
42:21 it let's see are you second screening
42:24 Kyle on your other device okay so here's
42:26 the question for that poll so in the
42:28 upper corner if you're on Tik Tok in the
42:30 upper corner over there is this poll
42:32 where the little blue the little blue
42:34 and white thing on an angle is it's a
42:37 clipboard if you're watching the stream
42:40 on one screen and then doing comments on
42:42 the other screen just let us know that
42:44 or if you're just watching it on one or
42:46 the other that's great all right let me
42:48 just go look at comments here see if
42:49 anyone has any questions over here was
42:52 this 40 or01 preview this was 40 so I
42:56 just used 40 for this cuz I wanted it I
42:58 wanted it to have access to the internet
43:00 although this film's so old that I'm
43:02 sure all the information about this is
43:05 is well in there um if I wasn't
43:08 multitasking I'd
43:10 multiscreen um okay so what I ended up
43:13 doing here this this was kind of

43:21 cool at some point here I realized so so
43:24 I had it give me so like in KD Texas

44:05 canvas and so if you don't know what
44:07 canvas is canvas is if I click on this

44:14 left and the actual shot list is over
44:17 here on the
44:18 right so this was really cool so then
44:20 what I tried to do so because all of
44:23 these things were
44:25 um were just Geographic shots right were
44:29 just geography and Landscapes and things
44:31 like that um I wanted people too and so
44:36 what I tried to do was I tried to have
44:38 it um add people in here but it ended up
44:41 getting really confused it like it would
44:44 give me additional shots but then it
44:45 wouldn't label them and then at one
44:47 point it just stopped updating this
44:49 canvas Al together so what I ended up
44:52 doing was making a whole another canvas

45:52 one that had the
45:55 locations and went to so here's the shot
45:59 list so I just started with Buckeye
46:02 Arizona and I just copied I included the
46:04 sequence in the shot because I wanted
46:06 that in the name of the prompt and so
46:09 and it's got camera orbit right so it's
46:11 using the camera moves from dream
46:14 machine and so here's the prompt so I
46:17 copied this over to dream
46:20 machine and I made these images so
46:24 there's
46:25 one here's another one of the same thing
46:28 this is one where I included I wanted to
46:29 see if including that numbering screwed
46:31 up the prompt it didn't which was good
46:35 and then here's like a completely
46:38 unusable um you know morphing
46:42 tractor and this one was fine it's not a
46:44 great shop but it was
46:46 fine and then here's you know like a
46:49 desert you know uh development here's
46:53 another development encroaching on a
46:55 wheat
46:56 field you know there's just a wheat
46:58 field there's nothing in that shot
46:59 that's not interesting at all this is
47:01 another one where the machine kind of
47:03 morphs and does weird

47:06 um so what I noticed about this so all
47:09 of these were just text to video in
47:12 dream
47:13 machine and so about the time I got to
47:17 these I'm just like I feel like all of
47:19 these shots are just boring or or [ __ ]
47:22 up they're just weird or they're
47:25 boring so then I was like well wait a
47:28 minute because I've got these canvases I
47:31 can just tell it to instead of writing
47:35 video prompts write me mid Journey
47:38 prompts and so that's what I did so I
47:41 basically said take this big long ass
47:43 shot list of video prompts and turn
47:47 those into mid Journey
47:50 prompts which I've got in another canvas
47:53 so in this yeah so oh there's there's
47:55 the people closeups
47:57 and then somewhere down
48:05 here mid Journey static image prompts
48:08 and so
48:09 now I've got all these same locations
48:13 but these are now mid Journey prompts
48:16 and so then I went to Mid
48:21 journey and these are dramatically
48:24 better like dramatically better
48:27 like look at that shot that's so cool
48:29 like that and that's very if you if you
48:31 ever saw Kos scoty like that's the kind
48:33 of shots that that they filmed right
48:36 these crazy shots at Sunset you know

49:20 doing is I'm going to chat

49:30 Philippines so then I just grab I grab
49:32 the whole quote

49:37 um including the sequence number then I
49:41 flip over to Mid

49:47 the title of the prompt is a bit
49:49 duplicative so I just delete that but I
49:52 leave the
49:54 uh the sequence number then I just hit
49:57 submit then I go back to chat GPT grab

50:08 paste get rid of the that part of the
50:11 prompt hit return and this is it so it's
50:15 just kind of mindless like once you do
50:17 the once you do the work of figuring out
50:20 what you want the story to be and have

1:06:07 um what did it say he said
1:06:13 um instead of using chat GPT to give you
1:06:16 an idea use chat GPT to give you 20
1:06:19 ideas and that's what that's I I've been
1:06:23 kind of coming to a similar conclusion
1:06:24 where it's like you've got this
1:06:26 incredibly powerful ideation machine it
1:06:29 can do lots of other things but it's
1:06:30 really good at ideating if you let
1:06:33 it and what I'm finding is that I'm the
1:06:36 bottleneck
1:06:38 to being able to do better work with AI
1:06:42 because how I think is
1:06:44 limited and so I'm trying to force
1:06:47 myself to do different [ __ ] right I'm
1:06:51 trying to force myself to work in a way
1:06:54 that's not comfortable for me so just
1:06:56 just having the machine vomit out a
1:06:58 bunch of ideas and then just take take
1:07:01 those prompts and throw them into a
1:07:04 video generation tool or an image
1:07:06 generation tool and just see what comes
1:07:07 out and see if it turns in into anything
1:07:10 coherent like I don't know that there's
1:07:12 another way to learn how to do this
1:07:14 other than just [ __ ] throw all the
1:07:17 [ __ ] at the wall and don't judge it
1:07:20 right yeah how I'm doing this is not how
1:07:25 we've done creative in the past and how
1:07:28 you plow Fields with a tractor powered
1:07:31 by a steam engine is different than how
1:07:34 you plow a field field with a plow
1:07:36 pulled by horses it's a different

1:07:40 thing right and so so that's where we
1:07:43 are like we're we're we're in a place
1:07:46 where where you can the the back and
1:07:47 forth I had with someone on on uh on on
1:07:51 X was was essentially I said I said yeah
1:07:54 like I'm trying not to use my brain
1:07:56 anymore and I'm trying to reinvent my
1:07:58 creative process and his response was
1:08:01 something like well not everyone's going
1:08:02 to do that I'm like I know right you're
1:08:05 gonna have you're gonna have some people
1:08:07 that say this is my creative process and
1:08:10 I'm just going to keep doing it the way
1:08:12 I do it and then maybe I'll sprinkle in
1:08:14 some AI tools within that but I'm never
1:08:16 going to change
1:08:18 this and then you're going to have
1:08:20 people that say okay I used to do it a
1:08:22 certain way and let me experiment with
1:08:24 it and I'll I'll try this new way and
1:08:26 they'll reinvent themselves and then
1:08:28 you're going to have a third group of
1:08:30 people who never had a creative process
1:08:33 they've never done anything creative in
1:08:34 their life and they're going to do it
1:08:36 completely [ __ ]
1:08:38 different
1:08:41 so picture and picture Tik Tock wait oh
1:08:44 yeah get rid of
1:08:48 it yeah in fact Let
1:08:51 Me Let Me Entertain You

1:09:02 anyway some people get so down on AI
1:09:05 music and art they claim it not to be
1:09:08 art
1:09:09 exactly and
1:09:13 photographers when digital cameras came
1:09:17 out using your brain is overrated I I I
1:09:20 what I find Bob is that using my brain
1:09:24 is my brain
1:09:27 is the choke
1:09:29 point like knowing how to use it is I'm
1:09:34 the choke point not the AI the whole
1:09:37 thing the whole thing
1:09:39 about the whole thing about
1:09:43 um AI not being art I mean AI might not
1:09:46 be art but a piece of AI art sold for
1:09:49 1.1 million dollars today so so having
1:09:54 having a an artist as a wife she has not
1:09:56 sold any paintings for $1.1 million
1:09:59 yet so so some people in the art
1:10:02 community are seeing AI art is Art
1:10:07 um it's it's just another way for people
1:10:09 to express
1:10:11 themselves you
1:10:13 know creating video games didn't used to
1:10:16 be considered an art art form but it is
1:10:20 and that's that's pretty much accepted
1:10:21 now and and you
1:10:23 know financially the video game industry
1:10:26 is bigger than the film industry and and
1:10:29 the AI art industry is probably going to
1:10:31 be big bigger than the video game
1:10:34 industry it's just another transition
1:10:38 every single time there's a new
1:10:40 technology in the history of humanity
1:10:43 we've gone through this same
1:10:45 [ __ ] and it's
1:10:47 [ __ ] it's [ __ ] you can you can
1:10:51 sit there like this with your arms
1:10:52 crossed and go I'm not going to use AI
1:10:54 That's not real art
1:10:56 but first of all your face looks like
1:11:02 this and you're just a drag to be
1:11:05 [Laughter]
1:11:14 around it kind of teaches you how to
1:11:16 think yeah it it does or
1:11:20 or I think what it does for me CEF is it
1:11:24 is it forces me
1:11:32 it forces me to rethink how I think it

1:11:43 way what if you just let the machine

1:11:47 over and I don't mean take over like
1:11:50 it's doing all the work it's just it's
1:11:52 taking over for doing the blocking and

1:11:57 ideation like rather than me spending 20
1:12:00 minutes going oh what ideas of locations
1:12:04 could I find to do a film like Coan

1:12:08 me look up you know shot locations that
1:12:11 they filmed in COA Scotti and let let me
1:12:14 do some research to see if there's
1:12:16 growing cities that would be you know
1:12:19 comparable to what they were doing in
1:12:21 the 80s to what's going on
1:12:23 now why just say go find me [ __ ] that's
1:12:26 like
1:12:27 that out it

1:12:33 know GPT search yeah I know exactly I
1:12:38 can't write short stories all suck but
1:12:40 film seems to be clear to

1:12:53 would probably be actually be really
1:12:54 good cuz you're you're super good at

1:13:04 it as words and just say well how would
1:13:06 I describe the film that I see in my
1:13:07 head that might be a way to write short

1:13:16 upload stills of your movie to chat GPT
1:13:19 and say you know here's the basic plot

1:14:41 little meeting today that Cindy [ __ ] put
1:14:44 together and all of us on that meeting

1:14:48 about feeling uninspired and I was like
1:14:52 yeah I put together this video over the
1:14:54 weekend that the end result was this
1:14:56 really beautiful thing and I liked it
1:14:59 but it was
1:15:00 like like the the creative process was
1:15:05 not it was more curating than
1:15:09 creating right and I think that's what
1:15:12 some of the comments earlier
1:15:14 were um were well this this isn't real
1:15:18 creative because you just you just
1:15:21 manifested it into
1:15:24 being you know I totally disagree with
1:15:26 that
1:15:28 but as you get better with these tools
1:15:31 you can do remarkable things like like
1:15:33 if I were decently competent at at
1:15:35 coding with AI and decently competent
1:15:38 with film making with AI and decently
1:15:40 competent with writing with AI and
1:15:42 decently competent with molecular design
1:15:44 with AI like like we are going to get to
1:15:47 the point that the people that choose to
1:15:53 expand their capacity
1:15:56 are going to be able to literally choose
1:15:59 the kinds of outputs the ways they want
1:16:01 to express
1:16:03 themselves and I find that tremendously
1:16:07 exciting but I also I agree with you
1:16:09 Shane that
1:16:12 that how I and I think how we as a
1:16:15 community have normalized these tools
1:16:18 over the past two years is pretty
1:16:20 remarkable like the fact that I could
1:16:23 make I could make the fil film while I
1:16:25 was watching a football game I could
1:16:27 make that film write the music edit it
1:16:30 you know in I don't know what it took me
1:16:32 maybe 90 minutes maybe an hour I don't
1:16:35 know maybe two
1:16:37 hours but it was just kind of
1:16:40 mindless prompting make images make them
1:16:44 into movies some of them suck some of
1:16:46 them don't see see if you can make it
1:16:48 better you know having it write that
1:16:51 whole script and then realizing that
1:16:53 Luma lab's Dreamscapes text to video
1:16:56 made kind of boring
1:16:58 shots and then realizing oh I need to
1:17:00 make these all mid Journey prompts and
1:17:03 then go to Mid journey and make more
1:17:04 interesting images and now see if I can
1:17:06 turn those into interesting film shots
1:17:09 and see if I get enough of those to put
1:17:11 together it's just a
1:17:14 different it's still creative problem
1:17:17 solving it's just different problems
1:17:19 right I'm not having to learn how to use
1:17:22 [ __ ] aperture right I'm not having to
1:17:26 go out and photograph all those
1:17:28 locations I couldn't physically do it I
1:17:32 couldn't financially do it but now I
1:17:35 can that it's curated instead of

1:17:45 process is more curation I think the
1:17:47 output is still
1:17:49 art the art is what I as an artist

1:24:52 and they're all they're all sort of good
1:24:56 they're all eh sort of
1:25:02 good nothing nothing right now is great
1:25:06 but we'll see we'll see we'll see if we
1:25:08 get anything in the next week or two
1:25:09 from from open AI there might be some
1:25:11 new stuff out maybe we get SORA but at
1:25:13 this point I kind of feel like Sora Sora
1:25:16 is playing katchup to the Halo the the
1:25:20 Halo one h a i l o u. a I think it is
1:25:26 that one's pretty
1:25:27 remarkable but they're just you know
1:25:30 they're all really expensive the uh the
1:25:32 video things it's hard to experiment
1:25:34 with them which kind of sucks anyway all

1:29:35 competition is to get rid of the
1:29:37 competition
1:29:39 so so I think that's got a much higher
1:29:42 likelihood of happening than it did
1:29:44 before so I'm just trying to figure out
1:29:47 how I migrate my activity to a place
1:29:50 that's going to be relatively stable so
1:29:53 I figure for the end for the rest of the
1:29:55 year I'm just going to keep
1:29:56 experimenting with with different piece
1:29:59 parts so that's that's kind of why this
1:30:01 channel has gone janky like I understand
1:30:04 it's janky and I appreciate that and
1:30:06 it's not comfortable for me and I assume
1:30:09 I assume if you've been here a lot
