27. 7:51honestly figure out a good distinction from the 40 mode okay say what so hang with me so I'm going to I'm going to keep playing tonight
28. 8:01and I'm going to um and I'm going to I'll try to explain to you what's different about it here here's the
29. 8:13deal no one really knows like like the what what I can tell you about the 01 model is that it's not your everyday
30. 8:23driver right this is like the you know you got the one of 50 Porsche track car that looks like a regular 911 but it's
31. 8:41not and and most of the driving that you would do with it you couldn't even get the most out of it so if you try to use
32. 8:4901 just like you use traditional GPT it's not going to get it's it's it's going to be weird is is my sense um and so we'll dig
33. 9:02into the little bit that I understand which is like I understand very little but we're doing it so here's what I'm doing I'm now three days
34. 9:15into finishing an incomplete screenplay that I started that I just dumped into 01 preview and said finish the
35. 9:27outline which it did brilliantly and then I said write one of the random scenes you created and it did brilliantly and so now I'm trying to
36. 9:39figure some things out like does it lose context of long conversations is it going to keep writing good if I keep pushing it and
37. 9:50keep pushing forward is it going to is it just going to totally explode and the risk is going to be this so we've got 81
38. 9:57people in here fair amount of you have never been here before um and so tonight could be weird could be boring normally this is more of just
39. 10:09like a performative me like yapping about AI woohoo and what I can what I can promise you is that when when I try to actually
40. 10:19do something like complete something like real work um it tends to take a long time and be boring so so that's the warning for tonight
41. 10:29I've been testing 01 by rewriting the first few novel chapters it's so much better that I'm thinking of rewriting the whole book see this is
42. 10:43where I am and what's [ __ ] up is a lot of the the whoever opinion nightes out there I don't know if they're all influencers
43. 10:53but there's lots of people with lots of opinions I'm seeing like these bizarre 5050 splits where some people are like
44. 11:00well it's much worse at writing um than than gp4 and then other people are like oh it's much better at writing than gp4 I'm one of
45. 11:10them um I have never since I've been playing with these large language models since gpt3 I have never had a large language model write
46. 11:23screenplay dialogue that wasn't [ __ ] horrible ever not once write like my style write a whole scene okay and it writes half a page and it
47. 11:37sucks and and GPT did it now and then there's other people that are going oh it's worse at programming and other
48. 11:42people are going it's better at programming and other people going it sucks at math and other people going
49. 11:46it's better at math and David Shapiro said it sucks and it's not great and then he came out today and said no I was wrong it is pretty
50. 11:53[Music] great so what that says to me is that we are going to have to collectively figure out how to prompt this
51. 12:03[ __ ] and I don't think this is prompt engineering I don't think it's like we need to like it's almost like the more
52. 12:10prescriptive you are with this thing it it gets janky cuz it's it's doing its own prompting but I think the the the trick
53. 12:19is what are the good use cases for it I think finishing partial works of creative writing is a superpower so that's what
54. 12:29we're going to explore tonight it's not simple to say that most [Music] days I don't recognize me that these
55. 12:43shoes and this apron that place and its patrons have taken more than I gave them it's not easy to know I'm not
56. 12:57anything like I used to be although it's true I was never attention sweet Center I still remember that girl she's imperfect but she
57. 13:13tried she is good but she lies she is hard on herself she's broken and won't ask for help she is messy but she's
58. 13:32kind she's lonely most of the time she has all of this mixed up and baked beautiful pie she's gone but she used to be

60. 14:05Docs so today one of the things I did is I took I took the outline that it wrote and I put it in Google Docs and I
61. 14:15created a whole [ __ ] outline with the right heading so everything showed up down the side and then I came home and I
62. 14:23open Google Docs and it it has not synced so this this document I was going to used to walk us through writing this
63. 14:30thing and organizing this thing isn't here here's another thing I haven't written a screenplay in so long I
64. 14:44don't I don't know what software works anymore I used to use this software called Celtics which now looks like it's a
65. 14:52subscription web-based screenwriting software but there's no app anymore [Music] I think that was the last one I [Music]

83. 18:48new they're calling it a new model I don't think it's a new model well it might be I don't [ __ ] know but it's a new thing like chat P PT
84. 18:59called 01 and it's different it reasons and it uses a thing called Chain of Thought prompting which basically means prompt a
85. 19:14bunch of [ __ ] in a row like a chain of thoughts um it appears that they're doing some fancier [ __ ] on the back end or maybe
86. 19:28maybe they've just trained it on different data I don't I don't know I don't know how it's doing what it's doing but it's relatively
87. 19:35straightforward to follow if you know what to look for and then I think the real art of using it is there's a couple of things
88. 19:44you have to know you're limited to 50 prompts per week with this new model cuz it's expensive because when you write a
89. 19:53single prompt it's writing a whole bunch of other prompts on the back end by the way I'm feeling particularly irregular
90. 20:01tonight A source Camp I'm so sorry we'll just you know put this on his background noise like like like most of you
91. 20:12should um the first the next I don't know 15 minutes or so I'm just going to walk people through what I've done so
92. 20:18far and explain a little bit about about what I understand about 01 and then we're going to we're going to start
93. 20:27we're going to start digging in the the other thing that 01 did the other night that just [ __ ] blew me away is so
94. 20:35I've been working on a screenplay and just cuz I have ADD I was like hey by the way just write me the first chapter
95. 20:41of this book if it were a novel and the first paragraph of the book chapter is really really good
96. 20:56writing like I wouldn't edit it like it was good enough writing that someone last night said well what if it's plagiarized and I'm
97. 21:05like that's not how this [ __ ] works it's not plagiarizing and then I thought wonder if it is plagiarized so I copied
98. 21:12this one particular phrase that was just incredibly well written and I put it in Google and it didn't find any matches so
99. 21:19it's it's not plagiarizing and it wrote this really remarkable opening paragraph for this novel that doesn't exist but might so it's
100. 21:32crazy all right all right so let's go
101. 21:48look so if you're brand brand new to chat GPT there are three major models now that you can use GPT 40 or Omni 01
102. 22:01preview this is the new one and 01 mini which is also a new one but it's smaller and faster uh I'm not going to bother with
103. 22:09mini cuz I don't I'm not pro we're not programming right now like if you were programming this is like I don't know
104. 22:16six times cheaper than this one or 10 times cheaper something like that um if you want to do just short little
105. 22:27if you just want short short answers to things nose hair check if you just want short answers to things use gp40 if you're working on a big
106. 22:39complicated project like what I'm working on here use 01 preview I don't know like I don't have a great sense right now of What kinds of
107. 22:53projects make sense for this thing and I think open ai's bizarre feature release strategy for
108. 23:10lack of a better word I don't think it's a strategy um Sam Alman has talked about on a number of occasions essentially slow dripping
109. 23:22out features to the public so that we get used to what these things can do because if he just dropped it all at
110. 23:32once we'd be overwhelmed and and historically I thought well maybe that's the case but maybe that's just a line of
111. 23:39[ __ ] cuz they're not you know releasing enough I am so unclear like I've been thinking about this [ __ ] a lot for the
112. 23:49past two years and I am really unclear when and how and why it makes sense to use 01 versus is GPT 40 and so I think us having this preview
113. 24:05version for a month actually makes sense because we got to we've got to collectively figure out what we're doing
114. 24:11with it or maybe it's just trying to save a ton of money that's possible all of them have rate limits of varying amounts and transparency
115. 24:21absolutely business makes sense to me if I had a sub for chat GPT wait Kyle before you lose lose you in the process how can people play
116. 24:37along that's a good idea well all right here's how you can play along go to chat
117. 24:52GPT so can someone confirm that 01 preview is available to free members is anyone here a free member of chat GPT but still has access to 01
118. 25:03preview can anyone confirm that has anyone figured out how to redact data from a file yeah I'm actually I'm actually
119. 25:15building that system right now for storyvine Source Camp there's there's not an easy way to do it without building
120. 25:24something um but there's an open source Library out there that you basically Define the kinds of things you want it to find in a file and
121. 25:33then it replaces them with variables and then you send that off to the large language model there's a company out of
122. 25:39Denver called Lial that that's what they do but their minimum annual subscription is like 25 Grand so you got to be it's
123. 25:46it's basically designed for Fortune 500 companies um but it is it is possible it's just not easy right now
124. 25:58I got chat GPT 40 for free and mini okay great perfect okay so here's here's what I want you to do if you're a digital hoarder like me
125. 26:12or if you're just a normal person you've probably got some incomplete projects so let me walk you through what I did so
126. 26:19I'll just tell it to you first and then we'll walk through it I had an incomplete screenplay like I had written
127. 26:24like I don't know three or four scenes and I had an incomplete outline of the same screenplay and I'd written
128. 26:32like I don't know a third of it or maybe a little more than that but not much and I pasted both of those I said I'm going
129. 26:42to give you some fragments of a screenplay and then the first thing I did was say finish the outline and then
130. 26:48the second thing I did was say write a scene and then I had it tell me characters and [ __ ] like that characters
131. 26:54it added and it did it really really well so if you want to play along what I would say is go find some abandoned
132. 27:01project or or a current incomplete project and just play just play along so you're going to go to the 01
133. 27:10preview and then I'll show you my my prompt of what I did and you can do something similar again this this ain't science this this
134. 27:20ain't prompt engineering this is prompt playing prompt experimenting we'll get to the engineering when these things start
135. 27:29behaving in a more predictable fashion or if you're a programmer you can deal with that but as human beings we don't
136. 27:36have to so I said here are two fragments from a screenplay the first fragment is an incomplete outline uh though it has the main beats
137. 27:44of Acts 1 2 and 3 and the second fragment is the opening scenes from the film and then I accidentally hit submit and I had to start
138. 27:56over so there's that and then the prompt that I wrote at the bottom of this and if if uh if you don't know how to do line breaks within a
139. 28:08prompt you hold down the shift key and the return key so normally if you hit the return key that submits your prompt
140. 28:14if you want to put extra lines in just hold down the shift key and then the return key will create create line bre braks in your
141. 28:22prompt okay so there's the screen play fragments so two incomplete pieces of stuff and then the prompt that I wrote was this
142. 28:34based on these inputs I'd like you to analyze it and fill in the outline for me and make a good compelling screenplay
143. 28:40with lots of twists and turns and surprises and also introduce new characters that are memorable and move the plot forward
144. 28:48organically so if you're putting in a work document or if you're putting in I don't know something for the family or
145. 28:55for the community center just you know make a make a similar thing basically like finish what I've given you and then
146. 29:03the way 01 works is it thinks it says it's thinking um paint hates that term but it's it's prompting itself and what's cool about the way
147. 29:18they programmed this is the only thing you see is it thought for 59 seconds before it answered but this little drop
148. 29:25down menu here means you can open this and you can actually see what it was thinking and so if you give your thing
149. 29:33here's two incomplete fragments and you say go finish it it will read through them and think and start prompting
150. 29:39itself so it said crafting a compelling narrative crafting a thrilling screenplay unraveling the mystery understanding the consequences it's
151. 29:47really interesting it starts out crafting a compelling narrative I'm analyzing the screenplay fragments so
152. 29:53here it's talking about the structure of the work and then crafting a thrilling screenplay I'm digging into Jack's
153. 30:03character so now it's saying I'm reading the screenplay a loner obsessed with photography and now it switches over to
154. 30:11like plot points unraveling the mystery the main character Jack Jr grapples with the three cameras so so now it's kind of writing scene
155. 30:22outlines understanding the consequences facing a pivotal Choice Jack Jr must decide between watching his family's
156. 30:30destruction or abandoning the his perception to survive in act three so it's going back and forth between plot
157. 30:41and structure which is interesting and then it just goes on for a while wrapping up act one so this is it thinking about the story I gave
158. 30:51it and what it wants to do to complete the outline so it goes on for a bit so as you're playing with this thing get
159. 31:01curious go in there and turn down those little carrots and look at what it writes and then what it says based on
160. 31:08your inputs I've analyzed the screenplay and filled in the outline script was generated from Contour by Mar Mariner software it
161. 31:19wasn't generated by it I just Contour is a story framework by Mariner software so it had some of that metadata in in what
162. 31:26I gave it so it pulled that out and then it says the four questions so these are from Mariner software and then here's the four
163. 31:37archetypes and it filled all these in these weren't filled in in my in my outline and then it wrote a log line
164. 31:44which is basically the synopsis of the film when a guilt-ridden photography obsessed 12-year-old boy inherits a
165. 31:49mysterious photo album that predicts magic tragic events involving his family in New Town he must decipher the album
166. 31:57secrets and confront a Sinister antiques dealer to prevent disaster ultimately risking everything to change fate and
167. 32:05save those he loves cool all right that sounds like a movie and then there's a little checklist that's part of Mariner
168. 32:13software that it answers and then it gives me the outline and it and it breaks it into the the structure of this
169. 32:20Mariner software Act One the orphan our main characters an orphan and then then act two he becomes the
170. 32:31wonderer and it writes all those scenes and then act three he becomes the warrior writes all those scenes act three he becomes the Martyr
171. 32:42or the other one was act two scene part two and then act three the Martyr and here's the end of the film and then it says here's the new
172. 32:54characters that we introduced and then it says here's twists and turns that we added to your screenplay maybe that's the solution to
173. 33:05my inference problems take forever to just say I was busy thinking yeah that's that's it paint that's all you have to
174. 33:12do you could just have it you could just have your system randomly write um you know sentences like it's thinking and
175. 33:20just have it write random sentences and then yeah I think that's it and just tell them it's way faster than you think it is because it's
176. 33:29[Laughter] thinking um and then I said based on the writing style of the screenplay fragments from the opening of
177. 33:42the film write the following scene from the outline you created Silas reveals that he's the guardian of the album curs
178. 33:50to find successors and then it wrote a scene that is good enough in my opinion to go straight into a screenplay I've written seven of these
179. 34:04[ __ ] um writing dialogue and writing scenes is hard and I've never had a large language Model come close so
180. 34:11the fact that this not only wrote it but it wrote it good I mean it's I'll read a little of it to you just so you get a sense
181. 34:18of uh Hilltop clearing night the lunar eclipse casts an eerie glow over the hilltop Jack junr Mia and Ethan stand at
182. 34:26the corner of a makeshift ritual Circle surrounded by candles and ancient symbols drawn in chalk Becky watches
183. 34:33nervously from The Edge that's his sister clutching the flashlight a sudden gust of wind extinguishes the candles
184. 34:40the temperature drops Shadows stretch unnaturally as Silas emerges from the darkness his tall lanky figure
185. 34:48silhouetted against the blood red moon that's just good good stage Direction good writing Silas so you've come to

196. 36:51would do tonight is this so over in text edit I've got the the new outline here and I've got the script over
197. 37:05here and let me see if we can so what I want to do is I want to start matching up this this is where tonight's going to
198. 37:21get really kind of boring and [ __ ] up and I apologize in advance but I want to start matching up like scene one moving in exterior
199. 37:32Suburban home day exterior Suburban home day and they're moving in so I just I just I'm I'm going to go to the to the
200. 37:40screenplay and I'm just going to number the scenes so this is scene one and then scene two is sibling Antics
201. 37:49so Jack and Becky are hanging out in their new yard new yard fighting playfully Jack's running around Becky
202. 37:55who is trying to ignore him and send it text message or 10 right so that's that's my writing that's scene two Scene Three exploring
203. 38:05the neighborhood so this is Scene Three that's end of the culdesac
204. 38:24day scene 3 exploring the neighborhood so this is three kitchen Jack Jor come on we can't go there
205. 38:42okay so here's again scene I wrote so exterior Suburban home driveway following the kids are buckled in the back seat the left turn
206. 38:53Adventure so what's what's what's pretty cool about what it did is when I had existing scenes it kept them
207. 39:02as is it describes them it summarized them but it kept them as is so exterior new Suburban home driveway day exterior
208. 39:11new Suburban home driveway day right so that's scene four and so the the way we're going to do this is I'm going to get um
209. 39:29I want to get the uh everything that I've written numbered and matched up with the new outline and then I want to have it start writing
210. 39:46scenes sequentially and just see how it does various locations day the journey
211. 40:11where's the Antiques entrance of the dirt road so this is scene six entrance to the dirt road scene five
212. 40:37so these are all five wait okay so scene four kids already buckled in the back
213. 40:51seat left turn Adventure so scene five is the journey okay so everything after the left turn Adventure is scene five so we'll go five
214. 41:07a and we're going to go 5B see this is kind of the Annoying [ __ ] that as someone with ADD 5c this is the [ __ ] that makes me
215. 41:22stop writing cuz I just I just hate this like non-creative work it just drives me [ __ ] batty but whatever 5D and then six exterior dirt
