33. 8:50[Music] tonight is there a breakup in the future of open AI in Microsoft I think so yeah um I know someone that works there
34. 9:04now and he said that it's [Music] uh it's um it's not a big Love Fest
35. 9:19between Microsoft and open Ai and I also think that um part of their contractual agreement is that at The Point open AI hits
36. 9:33AGI Microsoft loses commercial access to the technology now that said Altman is also considering flipping chat GPT from this
37. 9:48current hybrid sort of fixed cap for-profit model that's run by a nonprofit board he's thinking about just flipp that over to a for-profit
38. 10:00company so so yeah I have a feeling I have a feeling all sorts of stuff is is on the [Music] table I was also really surprised that
39. 10:14um well I was very impressed that so little leaked from Apple about what they were announcing today because everyone sort of made the
40. 10:26assumption that they cut the deal with open AI to be the primary engine of their their AI stuff and it's
41. 10:35not most of the stuff they showed today was their own AI running locally on their own chips and on their own
42. 10:42private private Cloud servers that are also running their own chips so they kind of spat in the face of Nvidia
43. 10:53um I mean I think they did the deal with open AI because maybe their big models not up to Snuff yet so they have to have
44. 11:00something that can really do large language model stuff but but the the uh the chat GPT addition to the Apple infrastructure is
45. 11:12more like just a nice add-on rather than core to what they did um and that was evidenced by the fact that they didn't
46. 11:20have Sam Alman on stage right he was there at the event but they didn't bring him up on stage to to talk about this
47. 11:26stuff I missed the Apple announcement can't wait for the yeah I'll walk I'll I'll run through it we'll play some of
48. 11:31the uh some of the keynote I'll try to skip the cheesy Parts my God that Craig Ferguson dude the head of software he is such
49. 11:41a such a cheesy cheesy presenter yay he's like you can make money fantastic new IOS operating system features for you
50. 11:53today a lot of that kind of stuff it's like come on dude take a Quay lud did [Music]
51. 12:22[Music] they don't have much of their own cloud now I know we'll see what they have we'll see
52. 12:38what they have cuz I think it sounds like the M4 Chip is going to be an AI beast and maybe their M4 chip is what's
53. 12:45going to power that cloud cuz all the stuff today was just announcements you know how that goes Pate you know most of
54. 12:50it's announcements so so here's the the the the bottom line for most of you paying attention to the Apple thing if
55. 12:58you're not a developer um you don't really have to worry about this [ __ ] till at least the fall right so what
56. 13:05they announced today was really for developers to start developing an iOS 18 there will be a public beta of iOS 18
57. 13:13probably in a month or two or I don't maybe less than that but at some point here shortly and if you want to be
58. 13:18adventurous and have early buggy software on your iOS and Mac devices you can do that um but if you're not feeling adventurous I'd just
59. 13:28wait um um but they they announced some really interesting things the the the thing that I think I'm most excited
60. 13:36about that they announced is actions and this thing like the intent architecture or something like that which is
61. 13:43basically like little hooks that you can write into your app if you've got a third-party app that that when someone
62. 13:51is using Apple intelligence the the AI when they're using Siri basically when they're using Siri and they and say hey
63. 14:00um uh let's see uh uh give me a a a cake recipe from that recipe app that I got you know that developer is going to be
64. 14:09able to write the hooks from that Siri recommendation into their app and that's that's pretty slick so um actions were
65. 14:19the things that I that that I was most hoping I would see from them and we actually saw it and so that's
66. 14:27exciting and then there were a couple other nice things that are that are going to really help with consumer [Music]
67. 14:39adoption I thought the implementation of the chat chat GPT stuff was duct taped on I'm just curious how many of us are
68. 14:48obsessed with AI and play play play instruments because I can jam nice um yeah I don't know I mean I think that I
69. 14:58think that where okay so a couple of things I think we are quickly entering um a phase of uh you know revenge of the
70. 15:08liberal arts Majors so I think the more multidisciplinary you are um we're us generalists are going to be coming into
71. 15:16our power as these tools get more capable and do the work of the Specialists people are going to need
72. 15:22generalists but I think in general right now because the tools are very general and very janky and you have to kind of
73. 15:28crack men them together it's not dissimilar to picking around on a guitar or you know sketching or plinking around
74. 15:35on a piano or you know or you know writing uh doing creative writing so it's I I think the skills that's required for generative AI right
75. 15:45now lends itself to having lots of different you know irons in the fire I liked it when he did gymnastics down the stairs the
76. 15:57parkour with the bad stunt double that was pretty funny oh man and you can't do anything without a pro version 15 or higher and
77. 16:08an M1 or higher yep exactly so but the reason for that the reason that they need an M1 or higher and a 15 Pro or higher is um a lot of
78. 16:24the um AI that they're processing they're processing locally so basically if they're doing small AI like just sort of
79. 16:35figuring out how to if you say hey show me that picture of when we went to the lake 3 weeks ago that's all of that is going to be
80. 16:45processed locally and then if you want to do something fancier like you know write me an M&M WAP that explains
81. 16:53quantum physics that's where they're going to call out to chat GPT but the thing that's really annoying how they
82. 16:59did that is you have to approve it every time hey this might be better for chat GPT are you sure you want to go outside of the Apple safety
83. 17:08cone yes fantastic question Bob you sure you want to go to chat GPT to answer that yes about the third time of that is when
84. 17:22I throw my phone against the wall so hopefully in user testing over the summer they determin that that's a stupid way to do [Music]
85. 17:36it Adobe won't let me cancel they're like a toxic X I've been trying to cancel a thing some podcasting platform I was on for
86. 17:48like a year I think I finally canceled them took me a year [Music]
87. 18:04I know we haven't started yet I'm just [ __ ] around on the guitar but I'm trying to gather my thoughts I [Music] suppose it was funny the
88. 18:20um the AI Walkin talk I did this morning Brandon asked the question about when are we going to see um essentially consumer adoption when
89. 18:32are we going to see big Brands like Coke and Nike and whoever else Dove adopt Ai and you know my answer was basically
90. 18:42like you really won't see that until consumers adopt Ai and you won't see that until this [ __ ] gets less janky and
91. 18:49it gets a little more integrated and and then a lot of the stuff Apple showed today the one thing that I think is
92. 18:56stupid that is actually going to drive a lot is they showed this feature where you can take a photo of your friends and
93. 19:04family and turn them into cartoon characters so they're like if you think your mom's a hero a superhero now you
94. 19:11can actually make her a superhero and they take her picture and they're like superhero mom and it takes her face and
95. 19:17it turns it into a little cartoon character um I think stupid [ __ ] like that built in is going to get people inadvertently using
96. 19:36AI what was that about the Mary Mary oh the Dove commercial yeah the the dove so so Dove did the if you don't know Dove
97. 19:45they've got the real Beauty campaign from a few years back and someone some smart person at their agency probably at their agency
98. 19:55realized that if if in um like do or mid Journey if you type in Dove real Beauty um and then you're prompt for for
99. 20:05whatever it is you get more real looking women they're not so you know sexualized and fantasized and so Dove did a campaign on
100. 20:16that which I think is really smart I do too but they will get bored just like bitmoji maybe but bitmoji you had you had to like
101. 20:32construct yourself right you had to give yourself the hair and the glasses and and widen the mouth and and this is
102. 20:40just take a picture of your loved one or your dog and turn it into a cartoon character I wrote an article on LinkedIn
103. 20:50a couple of months back called um something like the C the the era of casual excellence where you don't have to do
104. 20:59much work to get really fun creative work out of it and I think I think some of the stuff they showed today very much
105. 21:05lives in that space people have been using AI for years and don't know it you don't realize what all is AI based yep for sure absolutely
106. 21:14absolutely but if you can start to do stuff like I'll tell you where where it will make a difference pate and you know
107. 21:20maybe people won't even know it's it's AI but if I can just say you know um book me a you know book book me some
108. 21:31tickets for that movie this week and it's smart enough to know which movie and which week we're talking about and
109. 21:38what the day actually is and actually book it and take that action it's going to it's going to pretty seriously transform how we use our
110. 21:50data and I think I think apple is uniquely positioned you know whether it's actually secure or not that's a
111. 21:57different story but their brand is strong on privacy and security so they take privacy seriously all right what are we going to
112. 22:10do tonight have you seen the finalist for the AI Beauty competition I've seen better images in in this room yeah well I you know
113. 22:24it's I talk about this all the time people think ai's overhyped right now and people think we're we're
114. 22:32oversaturated and and we're we're in a bubble the we the hype hasn't even begun like we've barely started so things like
115. 22:40the AI beauty pageant I in the early days of the worldwide web there would be contest like that every every month
116. 22:47would be some stupid new thing like that and so you know the only people that would participate were Geeks cuz that's
117. 22:55the only people that were building websites back then so oh man why are people rejecting corporate AI
118. 23:08H I don't know what that means rejecting corporate AI like why are corporations not not adopting it like like people
119. 23:18are um largely because it's not safe and secure and it hallucinates and it's not it's not really ready for prime time yet
120. 23:25that's again again why I think that we're a little early we're earlier than people think and we're not as hyped as
121. 23:31people think um is the the tools just aren't quite ready yet people are unfortunately rejecting corporate AI use Wizards of the
122. 23:41Coast had a lot of backlash um yeah it's also you know this is an almost identical cycle to the early days of the
123. 23:51worldwide web the it groups have outsized influence right now because they are the it groups are rightly saying this [ __ ] ain't [Laughter]
124. 24:07secure um and then even even a lot of the companies that are adopting it in some way like they're buying chat GPT
125. 24:16licenses for their staff they're not training their staff so they're like oh you got chat GPT now okay if I don't
126. 24:23know how to use it if I haven't been trained on it Paul rater in there in the the B2B marketing Summit they just did
127. 24:31this was a big topic of conversation that in Paul's keynote was if you're if if your staff doesn't know how to use it
128. 24:39they're not going to use it or they're not going to use it well when I was in grad school I proposed that platforms
129. 24:47should be paying users rent on their data yeah I'll tell you what side hustle Mimi that you're hitting on something I
130. 24:56think this is I think there's a big a big shift is going to happen in the next probably in the next year or two
131. 25:08individuals are going to start to realize how how how valuable their data is and they're going to start trying to claw it
132. 25:20back and then I think over the next 3 to 5 years there's going to be a whole new market for all of us to monetize our
133. 25:29data to monetize our likenesses to manage our likenesses um maybe to have representation like Talent agents but Kyle I didn't go to acting
134. 25:42school exactly when everyone's likeness can be leveraged in some interesting way and that's a value and we realize
135. 25:55that you might actually look twice at the Employment contract you sign well wait a minute how long do you own my
136. 26:02likeness is it only while I'm employed here or is it in perpetuity and how much are you compensating me for that if you use it
137. 26:10Beyond you know beyond work and corporations will try to own all of it forever you
138. 26:25know we should be able to patent our personality well I assume it would be copyright not patent but I like I I think it's I think
139. 26:39somewhere in the neighborhood of what I'm talking about is what you're talking about there Li licensing our
140. 26:43likeness and and who owns that license who owns our likeness do we or does chat GPT own it because they're giving us the service for free
141. 26:57right that's that's what Google's whole Mo has been forever right if the if the service is free you're the product but I
142. 27:09think I think we could be moving into an era where where individuals understand the value of their likeness um even in
143. 27:17even in work situations it's not just going to be for media and influencers you know little little pink pink stripe
144. 27:24of hair no no no we don't want to monetize stuff we just want to survive yeah well but that's but that's
145. 27:33part of it right that's part of it anti bubbles that you know you know it might be that companies want people to come work for them long
146. 27:41enough to get their license get their intellectual property and then just mine it with generative Ai and and I think people are going to
147. 27:51be increasingly like wait a minute I should be fairly compensated for that cuz you're not hiring me like you used
148. 27:56to so we'll see this is this is way off in the in the distance it's not happening right now will Apple intelligence be an a rabbit R1 killer
149. 28:04asking for a friend absolutely absolutely Apple today killed one password and uh and last pass those two those two companies died
150. 28:18today um dualingo they featured Duolingo I think duolingo's done
151. 28:36uhuh only if we be if we're forced to do work that gets money in order to survive Black Mirror yes yes we are in a Black
152. 28:47Mirror episode we are so this is the the thing that I am increasingly confronting is the fact that a lot of my conversations lately feel
153. 29:01like I'm in a Sci-Fi movie I feel like I'm in the you know you know in Sci-Fi movies where you don't understand the
154. 29:07world you're in and so at some point in the first 20 minutes is the exposition scene where there's like some nerdy
155. 29:14computer scientist going well when reality split in two in 2037 that's when we showed up we weren't even in existence before and the Wrinkle
156. 29:25in Time right they they they always explain explain the world in some horribly awkward Exposition that's what
157. 29:34I feel like a lot of my conversations are today well let's figure out how our digital twins are going to interact with
158. 29:41people and you know are these going to turn into businesses are they going to be subscribable are they going to talk
159. 29:46are they going to look like us are they going to look like cartoon versions of like what are we what is going
160. 29:52on say more about dual lingo please oh just just that um you we're just going to be able to conversationally talk to
161. 30:03Siri or chat GPT or piie or whatever and it will be able to outdo a lingo do a lingo these things are going to remember
162. 30:11who we are they're going to remember how much language we have um all that sort of stuff so the the a lot of specialized
163. 30:20software is just going to get gobbled up as these things become more and more capable um and I think I think
164. 30:29language language learning tools are some of them I think some may survive like dualingo might survive um but
165. 30:40um but it's going to get increasingly commoditized so they're going to have to find ways to remain relevant when you
166. 30:46can just talk to stuff and say hey teach me this language and pick up where I I left off yesterday what the [ __ ] is
167. 30:51going on with my eyebrow right there what is happening people I'm turning into a a mad professor for your [Laughter]
168. 31:04eyes that was my hunch when I heard your description can you imagine a bit wait can you imagine a bit what interactions
169. 31:15with NPCs in a game like Fallout will be if it can interpret more human like what we're trying to say yeah so so I think I think kind of the
170. 31:28dream of Gamers and game developers for years has been that NPCs don't suck so much so if you're not a gamer NPCs are non-player
171. 31:37characters so they're just like when you go into the bar you know when you're starting the game and you got to go into
172. 31:44the bar and then the bartender gives you the tip to you got to go to the cave on the Southwest part of town behind the
173. 31:51big oak tree and the Split Rock um not only will n PCS be able to have full-on conversations with you they will
174. 32:01likely have memory of what you talked about they will also likely be able to talk with one another so I don't know if you guys saw D

189. 36:43doing is they're creating worlds like this is Sim Francisco and you can upload yourself into s Francisco and your friends into s
190. 36:55Francisco and you can make characters or you can go hang out with other characters in s Francisco this thing makes TV shows by
191. 37:05allowing your NPC version of yourself to run around s Francisco and interact with other characters so while it's making TV shows
192. 37:16it's actually doing it by filming NPCs interacting with each other so and it's if you if you keep watching this so they first they show
193. 37:32that and get ready see get ready for the simulated show Revolution crazy right

203. 39:25out of that that feels really significant to me like is this a TV show is it a metaverse is it a game is it all of
204. 39:36them are they going to are there going to be areas in San Francisco where you can just go hang out and do Jam sessions
205. 39:43making yudo andso music in the karaoke bar and then that ends up on a TV show and then if if I upload myself into this and I star a TV
206. 39:58show that becomes really popular do I get money for that or do I pay them 10 bucks a month for the privilege of having my dude run around
207. 40:08San Francisco and be turned into a TV show like I I don't know isn't this crazy it's a Sims AI metaverse reality show
208. 40:21exactly this is the beginning of that Ryan RS movie every [ __ ] conversation I'm having recently is like like oh this
209. 40:28is like that movie oh this is Black Mirror oh that sci-fi movie is now a documentary oh my like The Truman Show

211. 40:49Life right you remember Second Life from the early 2000s it was a metaverse and you would put yourself in it and you would build
212. 40:56your little house and you would build your art galleries and you would go in but you would have to go in there and
213. 41:02run around and one of the reasons it was weird and awkward is that not a lot of people hung out in there all the time and
214. 41:10so second life kind of felt like an awkward Junior High School dance where people just were standing around staring
215. 41:16at each other cuz nobody knew what to do but now with generative AI with these NPCs taking on lives of their own and
216. 41:25having memory and having the ability to talk to one another and having the ability to potentially even take actions
217. 41:32based on the stuff we saw from Apple today you don't actually have to be there but you could be represented in
218. 41:40there and maybe sometimes you go in there and you inhabit your body and sometimes you don't are you going to have one version
219. 41:49of you out in the universe are you going to have a thousand versions of you out in the universe and are you going to
220. 41:54manage all that or are you just going to let them go out and [ __ ] stuff up and then you're going to get served a
221. 42:03lawsuit because your NPC [ __ ] with someone else's NPC and they lost $50 in the stock market oh my God it's the new voicemail it
222. 42:12is it's the new voicemail it's the new I mean imagine a dating version of this I mean the the the Bumble CEO just
223. 42:22said that the the next version of bumble or it might be the current version I don't [ __ ] know um of bumble you're going to be able to have
224. 42:32your the virtual you go on a date with a virtual someone else and it's going to let you know how the virtual date
225. 42:41went well now you might be able to put yourself into some singles singles Francisco singles New York and you dump
226. 42:53your character in there and you say here's the kind of places I like to go and it just walks around until it finds
227. 42:59someone who's also hanging out there and then rather than getting back a report of compatibility you get to watch the TV show of your first
228. 43:11date nope Auntie bubbles nope is this Ready Player three oh my that's a Bruce Willis movie I know my virtual twin may get the third
229. 43:22base before me I think so yeah if you're watching if you're watching your first date and all of a sudden you end up back

231. 43:47man what's really cool about this time in what's about to come is that the technology is so shitty and thin and weird and
232. 44:04weak that you can only see hints of what's coming but if if you peel back the layers and look at like if if I look
233. 44:12at what this is and even if it is remotely like what they say it is that's pretty [ __ ] interesting right and
234. 44:20then imagine that 3 years out where the technology gets really good I mean imagine being able to upload yourself into San Francisco or
235. 44:32some version of this and you could either walk around in your body yourself or you could just have your dude run around and do stuff on your
236. 44:44behalf and then maybe it texts you when something interesting happens and then you can pop into your body and then you can control
237. 44:54it the Zuck chooses which date work in order to manipulate the public yeah exactly virtual date I didn't notice a
238. 45:02difference no you wouldn't you've been programmed not to you're the doctor Manhattan in Watchmen oh that's really funny our
239. 45:13imaginations are weirder than the tech yeah I know but the Tech's getting there forget Netflix and chill I know
240. 45:23just show me the uh show cuz you know what would be funny is show me the sitcom of my time in s Francisco show me
241. 45:31the drama show me the cop drama where I play the detective right in one version you're the detective in another in another

243. 45:48as I can I will make that character absolutely I am absolutely fascinated by this idea of us all having virtual Twins and all
244. 46:02all sorts of variations of them some of them may have have our Nam some of them may not so all joking aside we will
245. 46:15experience the Multiverse then yeah yeah and I you know I don't I don't think it necessarily needs to look like everyone's running around
246. 46:28wearing headsets I mean what these guys are doing I mean this is a fascinating play isn't it they have a simulated world but rather
247. 46:41than saying hey when you get your new Apple Vision pros come to San Francisco and hang out with us no they're not
248. 46:48saying that they're like do you ever want to star in a sitcom upload your character to this world let it run
249. 46:54around and we'll turn that into a TV show or you can turn that into a TV show they're coming at it from a different medium probably
250. 47:06because South Park like cartoons were used to and if I could watch myself in a South Park cartoon where I'm the star
251. 47:16and and all my friends are the other stars that's kind of funny I'll watch that show well how did they make that

373. 1:06:02that means um able to solve big problems I heard somewhere One agent to agent communication becomes possible then
374. 1:06:16they're able to solve well there's two there's two major there's two major things missing right now from from the the frontier
375. 1:06:26models and one of them is reasoning and the other one is agentic behavior easy a agentic behavior where it can take
376. 1:06:34action on on behalf and that's that's what um uh Apple showed the beginning of today and they they have this really
377. 1:06:41cool thing called the intent framework and so developers are going to be able to say here's the intent of my app and
378. 1:06:49when someone talks and they say I need an app that does this that or the other the Siri will be able to connect it with
379. 1:06:55apps that do that sort of thing so through through the intent framework computational capacity it can draw on
380. 1:07:02private Cloud compute and send only the data that's relevant to your task to be processed on Apple silicon servers your
381. 1:07:09data is never stored or made accessible to Apple it's used exclusively to fulfill your request and just like your
382. 1:07:18iPhone independent experts can inspect the code that runs on these servers to verify this privacy prompt see that's
383. 1:07:26smart third parties can verify that that the data is actually private that's it's really smart on their behalf I mean that
384. 1:07:35that they're leaning in heavily into privacy this early in the presentation is is a big deal thas 13 years ago we

450. 1:16:03some point someone will cross that bridge so yeah it's I I mean I think before before we get to AI on quantum
451. 1:16:13computers we're going to get much more powerful much more efficient large language models combined with um
452. 1:16:22reasoning models where where they're layering the two together that are going to get really powerful like I think I
453. 1:16:29think it's going to get pretty powerful in the next year brand new tool and notes app that we call Image

470. 1:18:40the the the not the early adopters the Early adopters won't care about that [ __ ] but everyone else if I can just

472. 1:18:55hyperbole but it's absolutely not they're killing all of the apps well that's the thing side hustle Mimi I think
