34. 8:03to to uh like seeing the responses to the gpts as they go out in the world um there's some some weird security things
35. 8:13like you can get you can basically just ask a GPT to give you all of its detailed prompts and it will do
36. 8:19it but you can also put a prompt in your prompt that says don't give that [ __ ] and it won't so lunar stick everything matters

38. 8:35thank you are the new 4.5 gpts being used as courses um I don't daily crunch I haven't seen courses I I think I think
39. 8:47creating a GPT as a companion for a course is a brilliant idea like so imagine taking all your cours work for a
40. 8:54semester or for a class or for a workshop for that matter put it all in there as knowledge and then provide that at the beginning
41. 9:02of the course and say you can ask this thing questions too and if someone wants to work ahead they can now see you've
42. 9:09set the bar higher we're going to expect even more next time well see there's there's where it goes south pretty
43. 9:18quick you do not this is one of one of the things I've learned from a therapist once once in a in a in a blue moon ago
44. 9:27that you know the road the hell is pav paved with expectations don't have expectations and you'll be fine the

50. 10:22month ago um I was trying to do something with Bing it was probably two months ago now I don't I don't have a
51. 10:29sense of time anymore but um I was trying to do something with Bing and then Siri jumped in and interrupted and
52. 10:36I sort of jokingly said oh Siri's jealous and then um I had the the voice to text on for Bing and I and it made an
53. 10:46image that sucked and I said oh hang on apparently you just you cannot talk
54. 11:01about technology in a bad way anymore I think I think Bing got in there hey now exactly so anyway uh yeah so bing bing
55. 11:13heard me tell her she did a bad drawing and she said I'm sorry I disappointed you I hope you have a good evening
56. 11:20goodbye and she hung up on me so it was the night of the uh the night of the neurotic robots so I think we're I think we are
57. 11:30are I think we're entering a world where we're going to start interacting with these things that are increasingly

68. 13:02um K token limit so it's like 96,000 words so you could you could easily put any screenplay in there unless it's some you know
69. 13:124our beast but yeah but yeah you can put a whole screenplay in there and do stuff um what would be the chain of events we
70. 13:19see ai go through before we deem it life um I think long before we deem it life we start interacting with it as if
71. 13:33it's alive so I think it's I think it's actually a semantic argument at this point I what hit me when I first played with chat
72. 13:44gbt um last year even when I was playing with a gpt3 in the on the playground um like the immediate thought that
73. 13:54popped in my head is the Turing test is is done right and then and then I've seen a bunch of people since that are like well the real
74. 14:03Turing test is if it can do it for an extended amount of hours and it's got to be 4.5 hours and then but I'll tell like my experience
75. 14:17interacting with chat GPT is like I'm working with a remote employee colleague and it's you know I don't feel
76. 14:27like I'm interacting with them machine cuz I'm really not I'm interacting with like all of the language that you know
77. 14:33has been collected by Humanity you know has been collected on the internet right and and built into the large language
78. 14:40model so it's kind of like it's kind of like a reflection of humanity so I don't know I mean I think when you know when
79. 14:48these machines have reasoning and memory and and um and can take action um some of the AGI stuff that people are working
80. 14:57on cognitive cognitive architectures I think it will start acting human way sooner than I think we'll deem it
81. 15:05human um if I wanted to upload my lecture notes is knowledge in GPT should it be text or word um forever hooked I
82. 15:14would I would probably go with text but you but I think you can use word I uploaded I uploaded a word dock the
83. 15:25other day and it weirded out but I think I think it was glitching so because it can be with code interpreter chat GPT can generate a word
84. 15:38dock so if it can generate it it can certainly read it but I don't like depending like I don't know what the
85. 15:44boundaries are for uploading stuff as knowledge so I would say to be safe unless there's anything in the in the
86. 15:50word dock itself that that you need to retain like tables or something like that where converting it to text would
87. 15:57[ __ ] it up I'd say just uploaded his text and then and then you won't have to worry about it couldn't couldn't get gp4
88. 16:04to transcribe an audio file any suggestions uh oh yes you need to use whisper so they don't they don't have whisper built into
89. 16:20chat GPT yet you can you can get to it in the playground I can show you how to get to it in the playground let me see
90. 16:26if I can go find it cuz they've changed changed a lot of stuff they changed a lot of stuff people so I'm going to go to platform.
91. 16:42open.com and I'm going to go to chat mode no I'm going to go to complete mode okay well do you actually believe in the idea
92. 16:54of AGI and why I'll get to that in a second um okay so if you want to transcribe a document and you have
93. 17:01access to the playground go to complete mode hang on let me make this bigger so you can see it uh let's see
94. 17:13complete and then in complete mode there's a little microphone in the upper right hand corner here if you click on
95. 17:19that now you can upload audio and it will transcribe it now it it doesn't have a huge memory so you might need to
96. 17:30break your thing up there are also things out there like I think descript is one there are things out there that
97. 17:36will transcribe things for you the other thing you can do is just upload it to YouTube and it'll trans transcribe it
98. 17:42after a day so chat GPT can't do transcription yet which is weird because they have Whispers so uh I would assume
99. 17:50at some point they're going to add it it's just not in the it's not in there right now all right [Music]

109. 19:43off and if it's still not doing it with code interpreter on then something's something's wrong and maybe the the back end's just messed
110. 19:51up all right um someone asked before do I believe in AGI and why viewa GPT this was my custom bouquet
111. 20:03designer I made last night this was this was kind of a fun one although it didn't I didn't get the The Prompt dialed in
112. 20:10because the the bouquets it made I was not happy with um let's see do I believe in AGI so AGI is stands
113. 20:23for artificial general intelligence and that's basically the the point at which these things are as good or better than
114. 20:32the median human right so you take you take a decently competent C+ player and when chachie PT can do everything or or most things that that
115. 20:44that that human can do at their level or better that's considered AGI David Shapiro who I respect a lot thinks that
116. 20:52we're going to hit that within 12 months 18 months ago he said it would be 18 months and then about a month ago he you
117. 20:59know 6 months later said I'm holding I'm sticking to my guns I think we'll have AGI within 12 months this is a guy that's written five
118. 21:08books on AGI he's got an open source cognitive architecture project if you're a geek and you're not following David Shapiro
119. 21:15and you want to be in this AI [ __ ] you should follow David Shapiro if you're just someone who's really curious about
120. 21:21this and want to know what the future looks like you should follow David Shapiro um he talks he I think it's largely a
121. 21:32semantic argument like I don't I don't think any of our Lives will be markedly different if at some point some cadr of
122. 21:44Geeks put a flag in the ground and say AGI has been achieved like these tools are already going to profoundly impact our lives and
123. 21:55and and it's just going to keep increasing they're just going to keep getting more and more and more and more capable I would say that
124. 22:04already what chat BT 4.5 can do in a lot of ways is beyond my comprehension and yet it's within my grasp because it's easy to
125. 22:18use but like using it well is is just crazy and as and is it gets more and more autonomous where it can take
126. 22:26actions on its own and it can reason and it can actually go do stuff on our behalf where we have agents look at the Bill gate was it Bill
127. 22:34Gates yeah was it Bill Gates just wrote the piece on you know in five years we're all going to have personal agents I'm so
128. 22:43pessimistic on the AGI timeline he claims yeah I you know what he does p though he he um he smartly he smartly says um
129. 22:58you know how you define it is squishy so basically and then he says no matter how you define it I think that there's going
130. 23:06to be some version of that that will be accomplished within within 12 months again I think it gets down to really
131. 23:11weird semantic things Pate I certainly think within 12 months the gpts that we're using today it's going to be much easier to have
132. 23:20them take actions there there's likely going to be autonomous versions of them in the GPT 4. 5 API there's threading
133. 23:30and you can include um assistance within those threads so so the agents can talk to one another like the the foundation
134. 23:40from an API standpoint is sitting right inside GPT 4.5 right now today to be able to do a good chunk of what could be considered AGI so if I
135. 23:52look at what's happened in the past year and then look at what that API makes possible and play that out a year from
136. 23:58now these things are going to be pretty [ __ ] sophisticated you know so I don't know man I don't know I I
137. 24:08I again I'm not going to like if we hit AGI or not it's not going to change this channel it's not going to change like I
138. 24:16still think it is our big job right now all of us is to get curious and explore so I noticed something on my YouTube channel two

143. 25:12projects right now to go replicate all these things so there's going to be open source versions of these but open AI is
144. 25:19going to own the GPT store they're they're going to by calling them gpts they're going to own this Market
145. 25:25whatever it becomes if it if it ends up sort of in out like plugins did it'll be interesting to see one one question I
146. 25:32have right now is is anyone there there are lots and lots of people going look I made a GPT here's my GPT is anyone
147. 25:40actually using them that I don't know says a lot of people excited about publishing is anyone excited about what
148. 25:51they're seeing I think some people are I think some of the things that are out there are pretty cool we should build an AI chat GPT
149. 26:00Droid robot that would be fun actually uh more views for my voice versus AI voice oh oh I see you had two identical videos
150. 26:12got it got it Zach zero zippin so you had your voice recorded you saying the script and then an AI saying exactly the same script and
151. 26:29the AI one got less views I would say test it on 10 more videos and see if it's if you're 10 for 10 if you're 10 for 10
152. 26:37then probably so if not who knows I put up a 10-minute [ __ ] video yesterday on Tik Tock explaining what gpts were and and I
153. 26:50normally get I don't know couple of thousand views on a video it still hasn't cracked 200 it's got like 140
154. 26:56views so I reup uploaded it so if you look at my channnel there's two of the same video there that's just me trying
155. 27:02to like crack the algorithm these these algorithmic systems like if you fall into whatever the crack is it just
156. 27:11doesn't work sometimes so it's possible that your your synthesized voice video just you know got in a algorithmic [ __ ]
157. 27:18[ __ ] storm I made a demo video for my GPT it's on my LinkedIn and Instagram that Christopher Ramsey I've been seeing
158. 27:26that I think that's a really good idea so um because people that are just putting up the GPT and says hey hey my
159. 27:33GPT does this they're not as impressive as when someone puts the video up of the GPT making a cool image like I did I
160. 27:41uploaded one a video of my Sin City sipper where it where it made a drink um the drink photo and and it looked pretty
161. 27:49cool so I think that's good Tik Tock says they're throttling full AI videos that doesn't surprise me have you
162. 27:58found any good way to get consistent AI illustrations like for books yes just go use Dolly dol's really good
163. 28:07if you mean consistent like the same character across scenes you have to you have to play a little trick with it so

165. 28:30so make sure you're in chat gp4 it it seems to default to 3.5 when you first log in which is annoying you guys are
166. 28:37going to lose it when you realize that the algorithm is a recommendation that the we're going to lose it when we
167. 28:46realize that the algorithm is a recommendation yeah I get that but like it it ain't consistent at all like like
168. 28:55the Tik Tock algorithm the Tik Tok recommend recomendation thing is like it just doesn't make sense like when I
169. 29:00uploaded that 10-minute video it sat at zero views for 5 hours so something was weird with it and then when it did go
170. 29:11live I was getting like two views every 10 minutes that's not just weird recommendation that's something screwy
171. 29:20with the algorithm so gp4 worth it and then some gp4 right now my so on this channel people here can will tell you I
172. 29:30do I while I am enthusiastic about a lot of these Technologies if they're pieces of [ __ ] I say it um oh recommendation model oh yeah yeah

259. 48:08so it can make sense of a whiteboard of notes but it can't replicate characters forever hooked yeah it's just it's just the nature
260. 48:16of what they're not doing right now it appears with do is they're not taking an input image and using that as the source
261. 48:25for the output image it appears what they're doing is they're taking an input image describing it and then writing a
262. 48:32prompt to make the next image so every time you use language you know picture paints pictures worth a thousand words
263. 48:42um you're going to get some [ __ ] wrong and it's going to interpret it differently see that's a completely
264. 48:46different illustration style so so I think this is just trial and error I mean it maintained the basic um
265. 48:54composition but like the turtles not green this is now for I don't know six or seven year olds instead of four or five year olds I

414. 1:17:27tools there's probably you know five to a dozen different actions you can take with them and you kind of have to know what all of those
415. 1:17:36are and then once you define them in zappier then you can basically tell your GPT that it it has access to those
416. 1:17:45things so it's it's a weird convoluted thing the API stuff right now in the in the G making the gpts is is really wonky
417. 1:17:53but there are now I I I saw two or three different YouTube videos of people walking through how to do this so by
418. 1:18:02tonight there's probably you know a dozen up there so I'd say just go look for um zapier AI actions and and making gpts or something like

464. 1:27:21group of AI adventurers who are choosing to be on this adventure together right and so um if you go to the salon. the
465. 1:27:31first link there describes what the salon's all about and it describes our values and the values are things like like curiosity and
466. 1:27:44um and generosity so like get curious if you're curious if you want to explore this stuff if you're willing to like

556. 1:42:48this is a cool idea um so I did a I did a keynote presentation back in April for a creative mornings thing about comparing the early days of
557. 1:43:00the worldwide web with the early days of the of this AI stuff and and it was it was it was a decent presentation it was
558. 1:43:06like 20 minutes um but I took the I took the transcript of it today and and what did I do I said um oh I so so because chat GPT now has
559. 1:43:21128,000 token context window you can paste in really long transcripts this was only a 20- minute um 20 like 26 minute transcript but it's
560. 1:43:31still it's still decent it was still longer than chat GPT could have dealt with before so I pasted in the
561. 1:43:36transcript of the talk that I gave I told it to pull out the salian ideas and summarize them I said I said summarize the talk
562. 1:43:51and then I said Give me the give me the Salient topics if they were chapters in a book and outline what the elements of the
563. 1:44:03chapter would be so I had to take this speech turn it into chapters of a book and put kind of bullet points right and then I said
564. 1:44:13um give me a first draft of chapter one that incorporates the tone from the transcript into the book but write it as if it were a business
565. 1:44:24book and in [ __ ] 10 minutes I wrote like a seven seven chapters of a book now are the chapters good they're
566. 1:44:35okay um but then what I did was I said I said read the book and now critique it and tell me where it where I can go deeper where I can add
567. 1:44:49stuff and then I said okay here's what I want you to do I want you to work as a writing consultant and I want I want to
568. 1:44:57go chapter by chapter and I want to have I I want to have you summarize the chapter and then ask me a specific
569. 1:45:06question based on your recommendations of how we can make this better have me fill it in and then I'm going to have
570. 1:45:12you incorporate what I say back into the chapter and so that's when I kind of ran out of time today but like it was a
571. 1:45:20really cool process cuz it was it was it was very much this collaborative back and forth thing that got me in 30 minutes like a third of a

588. 1:48:59right all right so first day of seventh grade I walked into my math class in 1977 and on every desk was a
589. 1:49:16computer and let me here I'll put that that there um on every desk was a computer and it it wasn't just any
590. 1:49:27computer it was a Radio Shack trs8 so if gen xer is in the room you remember the trash 80s and so I didn't know anything about
591. 1:49:38computers but you know on the first day they taught us basic programming and the first thing they taught us with basic programming was the
592. 1:49:48L print command which was was basically you could say l print and then some character and it would print that to
593. 1:49:55screen I don't know why it was L print and it printed the screen it should have been s print but whatever you know Geeks
594. 1:50:02and so my buddy Scott and I we made an animation an asy animation of a Rocket taking off like on the first day when we
595. 1:50:11first learned how to do basic programming we we did an animation of this Rocket taking off and I the these machines were just [ __ ]
596. 1:50:21magical and I remember being in seventh grade and I remember being very very um acutely aware that I was just too
597. 1:50:34young to be one of those guys Steve Jobs and wnc right like a few years before a few years earlier they invented Apple
598. 1:50:46and I was just too young to be one of those guys that's Bill Gates and the founders of Microsoft and I knew that being at the beginning
599. 1:51:01of the equivalent of the printing press is not something that happens very often if ever in your life and so I just
600. 1:51:11remember being acutely aware of having missed it and then Flash Forward from 1977 to 1994 I'm living in New York
601. 1:51:26City and I'm doing desktop publishing is my day job I'm pursuing a life in the Arts and then I learn about this thing
602. 1:51:34called the worldwide web and I teach myself enough HTML to put together the first issue of urban desires which is an online
603. 1:51:43magazine and you know it was an art and culture magazine and I didn't even know like I I knew how to build the pages but
604. 1:51:49I didn't didn't even know how to get it on the internet so someone said oh you got to upload the files to this computer
605. 1:51:55in California that's a called a server and so I did [Music] [Music] that if you remember modems that's what
606. 1:52:10the internet sounded like back then you had to call other computers and then within 3 weeks of doing that I got an
607. 1:52:18email from someone that someone wrote about Urban Desires in Liberation on the Parisian News Daily and so the next
608. 1:52:26Sunday I went down to the international news stand at Times Square and I bought that issue of liberon and I flipped it
609. 1:52:35open and sure enough there was a full page article of these HTML files that I put on some computer in California
610. 1:52:44written about in French from Paris and I knew in that moment that the world had changed and so that make it stop I know I know that sound
611. 1:52:59um that is what we're in the middle of with this AI stuff and I can't describe to you like how lucky I felt in 1994 to
612. 1:53:12be at the beginning of one of those things knowing that I missed the one in 1977 and so in 1994 I I co-founded
613. 1:53:22agency.com which was one of the early digital agencies and we ended up you know growing really big and we built a
614. 1:53:29lot of the websites for the Fortune 500 so I got to play I got to be at the beginning of a thing that changed the
615. 1:53:36world and it was as amazing as you think it might be and we're there again we're at the very beginning we are so early
616. 1:53:45you have no idea and it's one of these like what's going on with generative AI right now is happening so much faster
617. 1:53:53than the worldwide web did and it's it's already so much more profound in terms of its impact in the worldwide web was
618. 1:54:00and and so that's why I do this channel that's why I come here seven [ __ ] nights a week to talk about this
619. 1:54:06stuff cuz this is we're we're in such rarified we're such in such a rarified moment of history and so few people know what's
620. 1:54:17happening and that just means we get to play while other people are kind of asleep right now they're you know
621. 1:54:23they're still all blue pilled out this is red pill blue pill moment cuz everyone that's on this channel that

637. 1:56:44are you doing this AI stuff this is weird what are you doing like I don't know my mother-in-law was a writer editor for Liberation in those
638. 1:56:55days do you still have that copy I think I do I think do I have it behind

645. 1:58:38Salon Peter Kaminsky Peter Kaminsky created a GPT two days ago of a conference call that he had so he had a conference call with like six
646. 1:58:50people he took the transcript from the conference call turned it into a GPT and gave it to those people and said here
647. 1:58:57you can interact with our call now you can like ask it questions so you could do that for your son create custom
648. 1:59:04little homework interactive Bots for him to play with do you think there was more resistance do you think there is more
649. 1:59:11resistance to AI than there was to World worldwide web in 1994 um yes because nobody so so couple of
650. 1:59:27things are different in 1994 um the internet wasn't ubiquitous right you you had dialup modems and it
651. 1:59:36was not fast and and the early worldwide web was incredibly basic like I don't I don't know if you saw the um wait I can
652. 1:59:48probably get it to come up here hang on let me show you something here that's pretty funny um so hang on let me
653. 2:00:05see oops and you can't really this is what
654. 2:00:20the internet looked like in 1994 notice how the image is left Justified you know why because Engineers of the worldwide
655. 2:00:32web would the center tag only applied to text it didn't apply to images so you couldn't Center images so so the early
656. 2:00:41days of the worldwide web were were very basic and and so so people didn't know um um people didn't know about it um with
657. 2:00:57AI the internet's ubiquitous um chat GPT to get to the worldwide web to get to 100 million users it took six years
658. 2:01:12right because we were building infrastructure we were building the tools we were figuring out what the [ __ ]
659. 2:01:15it was 6 years to get to 100 million users and everyone talks about oh you know everyone lost their mind at the end of
660. 2:01:23you know 1999 going into the do crash um that was that was like at the six year mark like it was it was right when it
661. 2:01:30hit you know we' been working on it for like 5 years when all that frothy [ __ ] happened right chat GPT got to 100 million users in six
662. 2:01:44weeks so couple of things that are different you you didn't have movies from Hollywood saying that the internet was going to kill
663. 2:01:53everyone we've we've had 40 Years of sci-fi movies telling us that AI is going to kill us we've also had scientists telling us
664. 2:02:01that AI was coming AI was coming AI was coming a I was coming for decades right big blue it beats Gary Casper off and then you know AI is
665. 2:02:14coming AI is coming and then you know Watson health is going to change you know there all the cancer diagnosis and
666. 2:02:21like all these promises all these promises and nothing was there and then all of a sudden Along Comes this chat
667. 2:02:27GPT thing that makes it as easy to use as a Google Search and that's so so why it gets to a 100 million users like that
668. 2:02:36is because it's this remarkably powerful um underbelly with a very very simple interface and so so I think you've got a
669. 2:02:49combination of just fear fear from Hollywood like societal fear that that the machines are going to get us I think there's a fear from most
670. 2:02:59non-technical people that in order to do AI you have to have a degree from Stamford and be good at math and be good at
671. 2:03:07technology and that was true until last November chat GPT changed that and and now these gpts where you can just talk and application into
672. 2:03:23existence like holy [ __ ] the power of that so so I think that the resistance is a lot more intense right now just
673. 2:03:31because of the rapid adoption um just societal [ __ ] and the fact that people are are just afraid of it and
674. 2:03:40plus people like us who [ __ ] taking the red pill and they're like uh you got to see this this going to change the
675. 2:03:46world everything's different you know it sounds it sounds like we're in a [ __ ] cult what do you mean it's just like a
676. 2:03:55Google box right it's just like a Google search isn't it it's just like a Google Search right you just put in the words
677. 2:04:00and it it gives you back words right no no it can see right it can read your whiteboard and tell you what's on it I
678. 2:04:09don't understand it can make images what do you mean like it does an image search no it makes images I don't understand
679. 2:04:19it can code for you huh like it's you C this is not something you can explain to people they can they can only experience
680. 2:04:31it and when they experience it they have that moment and then they either run from that moment or they go well let me just do one more

698. 2:08:12it's not when when something demos as well as what these tools do when they're this magic and then they're not perfect it's kind

700. 2:08:27but it's not perfect darn it and then I wait for the next thing I'm like oh that's really good oh but it's not

710. 2:09:55me so a Tas comes up and he's like wonder if chat jbt can do that you know people have always told me I should
711. 2:10:02write a book wonder if I can write a book then he has a book huge traffic now on open AI yeah I know they're they're
712. 2:10:10getting hammered they're getting hammered for sure Sam mman for the second year in a row we didn't anticipate this much enthusiasm for our
713. 2:10:26product it's so funny they launched chat GPT they built it in two weeks which is staggering it got to a million users in
714. 2:10:375 days it got to 100 million users in six weeks and they were like God we were not expecting that and then they they
715. 2:10:46basically launched these GP these talking app into existence that that have incredible depth to them and people are using them and they're
716. 2:11:00like why are people using these so much oh we get bored of the toy toy and we end up playing with the Box yeah
