4:07 are they're thin they're thin but we

4:16 after chat GPT shows up um I talk a
4:19 little bit about the sciency stuff and
4:21 the Machine learning stuff but that's
4:23 not my that's my not my jam I'm an
4:25 entrepreneur um I'm a I'm someone who
4:29 likes getting to the technology right at
4:32 the point it like does this and that's
4:35 what this generative AI stuff's doing
4:37 and it's it's I was an entrepreneur in
4:39 the early days of the web in in in the
4:41 mid 90s I started a company called
4:42 agency.com
4:44 and experienced what it was like being
4:46 there at the beginning of that and that
4:49 was absolutely insane and uh I didn't
4:52 think I'd see another one of these in my
4:53 lifetime and then this AI [ __ ] came
4:55 along I was like oh boy here we go again
4:59 so
5:00 right before they were going to strike
5:02 Russia what's that in reference
5:06 to oh man yeah didn't he turn
5:10 off oh you're already having
5:11 conversations here um okay so I'll get
5:14 back to the the comments in a second

5:27 the the nature of this live is I I just
5:29 kind of ramble I answer people's
5:30 questions we have conversations we dig
5:33 into philosophy what the future of work
5:35 looks like if anyone has questions about
5:37 tools I'll answer what I can I'll I I

6:23 give you my top seven list of large
6:25 language models I got the the adult
6:27 table and the kids table this is the
6:29 adult table
6:30 so if you're brand new if you've never
6:32 used chat GPT before go right there go
6:34 to chat. open.com that is the official
6:37 chat GPT website I don't work for them I
6:39 don't get paid by them it's just these
6:41 are these are kind of here as a public
6:43 service
6:44 announcement it's really important if
6:46 you haven't played with these things
6:48 just go play with it just go see what it
6:50 does ask it to write you a country song
6:51 or have it make you a project plan for
6:53 whatever project you're working on or
6:55 have it help you design a garden just
6:57 seriously ask it anything and see what
6:59 it does um Claude and Bard are similar
7:02 to chat
7:03 GPT for those of you that had played
7:06 have played a little bit but maybe
7:07 haven't sort of you know put put the
7:09 tentacles out um Claude allows you to
7:11 have really long context windows or or
7:14 prompts basically you could put like a
7:15 50,000-word novel in Claude and it will
7:18 work now Claude just announced a pro
7:21 version where you get
7:24 more you know more more uh iterations uh
7:28 but it's uh
7:30 it it it will rate limit you if if you
7:32 do too much it just says you're out of
7:33 time or you're out of Cycles whatever um
7:37 Bard is from Google it's free it's
7:39 pretty good and then down at the kids
7:41 table we got bing bing used to be at the
7:43 adults table but I moved it to the kids
7:45 table cuz it's it's safety guard rails
7:47 are just a pain in the ass um labs.
7:50 perplexity that's pretty cool you can go
7:51 play with the Llama models there um pi.
7:54 aai hey champy pi. a is a chatty GPT if
7:59 you if you want to have a conversation
8:02 with one of these GPT things pi. a is
8:04 your way to go download the app and put
8:06 it in talk mode in chat mode and you can
8:09 actually talk to it it's really
8:10 fascinating and then po.com is worth
8:12 exploring as well and then finally on
8:15 the image front if you want to make
8:17 pretty pictures these are the ones I
8:20 suggest playing with mid Journey um
8:23 which you have to learn Discord and you
8:24 have to make images in Discord which is
8:26 a pain in the ass but it won't be that
8:27 way for long but those are the best
8:29 ideogram brand new service like 2 weeks
8:33 old and it's um it can do words so if
8:39 you haven't played with
8:41 these um these image generation tools
8:45 one of the things you couldn't get them
8:46 to do was words well now you
8:49 can lookie lookie lookie words words

9:42 person out there that made AI L learning

9:48 scammer they're trying to get you to buy
9:50 some crypto [ __ ] and he hangs out in
9:52 here and when these things end he
9:54 reaches out to people so if you're in
9:56 here [ __ ] you I also swear by the way um

16:37 beta site is on Discord and so if you
16:39 haven't seen Discord this is Discord

16:43 servers here these are the different com
16:45 communities basically and then within a
16:47 community like here's the sunno
16:50 community you have all these places
16:53 where you can chat and ask questions and
16:56 blah blah blah and in this case you can
16:58 make music and so what you do is you go
17:00 into one of these chirp
17:03 channels
17:05 and I sit alone in front of my screen
17:08 composing lines of code a digital dream

18:17 however that translates but Tobias is

23:55 flavors of this thing that's 9 months
23:57 old all of these things are brand new
24:00 now ai and machine learning has been
24:02 around for decades and the foundation
24:05 sitting underneath these things has been
24:06 around since 2017 the Transformer model
24:09 that makes all this
24:11 possible so the underlying Tech's been
24:14 around for a while but all this stuff
24:16 that everyone's like oh you got to go
24:17 play with ai ai is fantastic you got got
24:20 to do it have you played with AI have
24:21 you gone with chat GPT have you gone to
24:23 J GTP have
24:25 you all them
24:28 no one knows what they're talking about
24:32 because every three months these things
24:35 change and and this fall we're probably
24:38 going to see um Google's going to come
24:40 out with a thing called Gemini that's
24:41 probably going to blow some of this [ __ ]
24:42 out of the water probably the beginning
24:44 of next year chat GPT is going to come
24:46 out with GPT 5 it's going to blow all
24:48 that [ __ ] out of the water then at some
24:50 point Apple's going to come out with
24:51 their [ __ ] that's going to blow
24:52 everything else out of the water so
24:55 we're very very very early
24:59 um why it seems like you why it might
25:03 seem like you feel behind is like but
25:06 everyone's talking about it what's going
25:08 on what's Happening why am I so behind
25:13 because so back in 1994 when I stumbled
25:16 upon this thing called the worldwide web
25:18 and I'm like oh this thing's really cool
25:19 and I started building websites and then
25:21 we built them for companies and we
25:22 started this company called agency.com
25:25 and it was it was all super exciting the
25:28 worldwide web to get to 100 million user
25:30 base 100 million users on the worldwide
25:32 web and that's you know multiple
25:35 companies multiple websites
25:38 right first website we built was the
25:40 Sports Illustrated Sports Illustrated
25:42 Illustrated Swimsuit video website that
25:45 was insane we we predicted that it would
25:47 crash time in servers and it did the the
25:50 tech boys didn't believe us um it took
25:53 six years for the worldwide web to get
25:56 from a standing start to 100 million
25:58 users 6 years so you had a decently long
26:02 ramp up till it got really frothy chat
26:04 jpt got to 100 million users in six
26:09 weeks six weeks 100 million users so the
26:13 reason all these companies all of a
26:15 sudden it's it seems like just out of
26:17 nowhere all these companies have all
26:19 this technology that's just like sort of
26:22 materializing into the into the they've
26:25 been working on this [ __ ] for years
26:26 thank you very much for the

26:34 um and and so the fact that chat GPT got
26:37 so popular so quickly it forced Google
26:39 Out of the Shadows it forced meta Out of
26:42 the Shadows meta basically said okay
26:44 we'll never say the word metaverse again
26:46 even though it's the name of our company
26:47 now uh it's all about Ai and and in fact
26:50 here here's our free models you can go
26:52 play with um so here's what you do
26:56 talented take take your talents and just
26:59 go here just go to chat.
27:02 open.com and if you don't quite know
27:05 what to do there go to this document
27:07 prompt. chat it's very basic there's
27:09 some primers in there that talk talk to
27:11 you about what these things are and and
27:14 how to prompt and it's a big long list
27:16 of little personas where you can tell
27:17 chat PT to act like a screenwriter or a
27:20 business consultant or a mathematician
27:22 or whatever it is it'll just give you
27:24 some ideas of what you can do in there
27:26 and just start playing just go start
27:27 playing right now the best thing you can
27:30 do over the next 3 to 6 months is just
27:33 play and and figure out little projects
27:35 you've got at home or you're like I
27:36 wonder if I could do that with chat GPT
27:38 and just go try it just go play um or if
27:41 you're into the image stuff um go play
27:44 with some of the image tools mid Journey
27:46 or ideogram is really easy ideogram is
27:48 very basic right now and you can go make
27:49 cool artwork like all this cool
27:52 [ __ ] you know all this was made in ide
27:55 just go start playing just start getting
27:57 just start getting your head around what
27:59 these tools make
28:01 possible and that will serve you as I
28:03 said last night I didn't mean for it to
28:05 be as smart assy as it was but I think I
28:07 was I was a little salty on someone who
28:09 was who was being a little pissy um you
28:13 know I said you know dick around with AI

31:15 you're going to use the internet you
31:16 could be a gas station you know owner
31:19 and you're going to use the internet
31:21 right so the internet is this ubiquitous
31:22 thing that's going to happen with these
31:24 generative AI tools where um chat GPT is
31:28 going to get rolled into Office 365 so
31:31 it's going to be in Microsoft Word it's
31:32 going to be in Excel it's going to be in
31:34 Windows it's it's already in um github's
31:37 co-pilot it's going to be in all the
31:39 Azure cloud services so that's just m
31:42 Microsoft then it's going to be inside
31:44 all the Google Docs all that sort of
31:46 stuff
31:48 um if you specifically want to be in in
31:51 AI shortterm I I think you know prompt
31:54 engineer is is the
31:58 is is is the kind of sexy thing
32:00 everyone's like oh you got to get good
32:01 at prompting and prompting is going to
32:02 be really important impr prompt
32:03 Engineers can make $900,000 a year and
32:05 blah blah blah or 300,000 whatever it
32:06 was some ridiculous amount of
32:08 money um I think that's going to be
32:11 relatively shortlived because the the
32:15 tools even though they're kind of janky
32:17 pieces of [ __ ] right now these tools are
32:19 going to get better and better and
32:20 better at prompting themselves in fact
32:22 Ethan mullik who's A A Wharton business
32:25 school Professor put out an article
32:27 today
32:28 that they they did a test and and um
32:32 chat GPT prompt writers were better than
32:35 human prompt writers so they did a whole
32:38 study and the humans lost to the chat
32:40 GPT prompt writing in terms of getting
32:43 quality results out of chat
32:45 GPT um but if you've got a good facility
32:49 with language and you can you can get
32:52 these tools to give you what you want
32:55 predictably that's going to be in demand
32:56 for some amount of of
32:58 time there's a thing there's a there's
33:00 another Tik tocker here on Tik Tock
33:04 that's why we call them a Tik tocker you
33:07 get
33:07 it they're on Tik Tok it's I'm tired um
33:13 named Rachel woods and she's got a like
33:16 a group called the AI Exchange in a
33:18 newsletter and one of the things she's
33:21 really big on right now is something
33:22 called AI operations or AI Ops and so
33:26 that's basically people that
33:28 know the technology and and can can
33:31 figure out okay if I want to do images
33:33 here's my choice for images here's how I
33:36 might you know organize my prompt
33:38 Library I'm either going to do that in
33:39 Trill Trello or I'm going to do it in a
33:41 database or I'm going to do it through a
33:43 Google form or whatever it might be and
33:45 and then here's here's all the chat gbt
33:47 models and if we need to do something
33:49 secure here's how we're going to do
33:52 that that that likely will have a
33:55 technical component to it but if you're
33:57 really good at project management and
33:59 organizing [ __ ] just organizing what
34:02 tools are available and worth the time
34:05 of the organization to put any time into
34:07 learning that's going to be a whole
34:09 thing so that's two sort of sort of the
34:11 prompt writing uh and that I I I would
34:14 say what's more likely going
34:17 to serve you in the in the workforce is
34:22 being AI literate and good at what you
34:25 do like so so if you're a project
34:28 manager learn how these tools can
34:33 amplify your project management skills
34:35 and make you faster make you more
34:37 efficient make you better come up with
34:39 new systems if you're a writer figure
34:42 out how to do writing more efficiently
34:45 if you're um a marketing person or a
34:48 social media person um these things
34:52 think of it like
34:54 this what chat GPT is especially if
34:57 you're a non-technical person what what
34:59 chat GPT represents is not so
35:02 much it's AI can do everything it's more
35:05 like this this is a tool that you using
35:10 using your SK skills this tool will
35:12 amplify your skills so take the thing
35:15 you're really good at get AI literate
35:18 around it and start to learn how to use
35:19 these tools to do your job and then just
35:22 tell the [ __ ] world tell everyone put
35:25 it on LinkedIn hey I just played around
35:27 with chat GPT and I'm really good at
35:28 project management and I had it do this
35:30 and here's what I learned uh it was
35:32 horrible at this it was great at this it
35:34 was sort of medium okay it doesn't
35:36 [ __ ] matter just start talking about
35:38 it just start putting it out there and
35:40 and you're like well kle people are
35:42 going to think I'm a weirdo if I talk
35:44 about AI because all my friends think AI
35:45 is stealing
35:49 and [ __ ] them ignore
35:53 them they will come knocking on your
35:55 door when they get fired from their job
35:56 cuz AI took it and it wasn't that AI
35:58 took it it was that someone using AI

36:01 it so get AI literate and start talking
36:04 about it because what's going to happen

38:14 have internet skills they must be able

38:28 from website to website right that's no
38:31 longer a requirement why cuz we that's
38:33 all we do like the phone is this the web
38:37 is this the all of our applications are
38:39 this they're all connected to the
38:40 internet it's just there so as these
38:43 things start to be be
38:45 incorporated there's just going to be an
38:47 expectation that you know how to use
38:49 this right oh yeah and what's the job I
38:52 don't know the job's going to be
38:53 whatever the job is now some jobs are
38:55 going to transform dramatically
38:58 and what you want to be is someone who
39:00 understands that particular job well
39:02 enough to understand how it's going to
39:04 change before everyone else does so that

39:11 Secret's going to be in in all of us

41:11 that is a full-on data analyst and and
41:14 frankly a business analyst as well but
41:17 if you can get good at wielding this
41:20 tool before other people get good at
41:22 wielding this tool the chances are very
41:24 good that you can find some work doing
41:26 this because you're going to be able to
41:27 do things much quicker than other people

46:11 and they're going to analyze that so I

55:16 following and I'll just sort of go down
55:18 that chain for a bit and you can really
55:21 quickly change your Twitter um feed

55:28 if you're super into um keeping up with
55:31 these art generation programs like
55:33 ideogram and mid journey and stable
55:35 diffusion and all that [ __ ] and you want
55:36 to follow the artists you can very
55:39 quickly transform your Twitter feed into
55:42 that or make lists of people that you're
55:44 following and and then you could have
55:45 one list for artists one list for news
55:47 one list for business
55:50 applications um and then just start

57:32 out that's exactly where we are with
57:34 this stuff so if you can find someone
57:36 who's just slightly ahead of you that
57:38 you don't mind the sound of their voice

1:01:16 going to do the same thing they're both
1:01:19 charging 30 bucks a month per seat for
1:01:22 AI powered Office Suite
1:01:26 um so that that's going to afford them
1:01:29 the ability to give the the tools away
1:01:31 for
1:01:33 free I think one thing that is going to
1:01:35 have to be subsidized is if the impact
1:01:38 on jobs is as dramatic
1:01:41 as a lot of people are saying it is I
1:01:44 there's going to be a gap so right now
1:01:45 we've got all these jobs right and we
1:01:48 have all this output of the jobs right
1:01:51 that's your that's your economy people
1:01:53 do this amount of work and this amount
1:01:55 of money is there and it you know
1:01:57 there's little fluctuations here and
1:01:59 there but you throw into it a
1:02:03 technology that dramatically
1:02:07 increases
1:02:08 productivity and decreases the need for
1:02:13 people to do to do that increase that
1:02:16 Gap that's
1:02:17 created that's going to be [ __ ]
1:02:20 painful and is that 10,000 jobs or 10
1:02:23 million jobs and is is it 10 million
1:02:26 jobs over 10 years or over a year and a
1:02:31 half because those are very different
1:02:34 scenarios so
1:02:36 so as this
1:02:39 happens because of these tools
1:02:42 something's going to have to be the
1:02:46 subsidies the PE firms out there are
1:02:48 going to look at this and go [ __ ]
1:02:51 awesome more money in our pockets more

1:02:57 replace them with AI That's private
1:02:58 equity's going to do
1:03:00 that the government and responsible
1:03:04 companies are likely not going to do

1:03:08 got to deal with this Gap we've got to
1:03:10 find a way to support these people
1:03:12 either by retaining them into the job so
1:03:15 we're going to keep the same level of
1:03:16 people but we're going to increase our
1:03:18 output or we're going to increase our
1:03:19 quality or we're going to decrease the
1:03:21 cost to our customers and get more
1:03:23 customers what ever it might be but
1:03:25 we're going to retain this or we're
1:03:27 going to have to find ways to take some
1:03:28 of this profit and subsidize it to the
1:03:31 people who are displaced at least for
1:03:33 kind of this 2 to 5 year period in
1:03:36 between where we are now and where we're
1:03:38 going to be in 5 years where these
1:03:40 things generate lots of new jobs right
1:03:42 so when the when the steam engine came
1:03:44 out and tractors came out a bunch of
1:03:46 farm employees were displaced and some
1:03:50 years later they showed up in cities at
1:03:52 factories and things like that they were
1:03:54 entirely new kinds of jobs created that
1:03:56 weren't even
1:03:57 imaginable before that technology same
1:04:00 shit's going to happen here but that
1:04:02 that 2 to five year Gap where where this
1:04:05 happens and these people are displaced
1:04:08 that could potentially be very painful
1:04:10 so Sam Alman his his second company so
1:04:14 his first one is chat GPT open AI his
1:04:17 second company is called worldcoin and
1:04:19 and it's got three components to it it's
1:04:21 got worldcoin which is a
1:04:23 cryptocurrency that becomes important
1:04:26 for this equation it's got this thing
1:04:28 called World ID which I have one of you
1:04:30 have to get your iris scanned by a thing
1:04:33 called the orb which is creepy as [ __ ]
1:04:35 but the idea behind it's really cool I'm
1:04:38 a verified human you don't need to know
1:04:40 my name my birth date my social security
1:04:43 number it just all it knows is
1:04:46 that my wallet my crypto wallet with
1:04:50 that ID in it is a verified unique human
1:04:53 being and so you're going to be able to
1:04:55 build entire services like imagine a
1:04:57 Twitter where everyone who commented was
1:05:01 was a verified human being that's that's
1:05:03 what his technology can do and then the
1:05:05 third component of of his platform is a
1:05:08 payment system so he's going to have
1:05:10 verified people a payment system and a
1:05:13 currency to be able to pay people now
1:05:15 why is that interesting why is that
1:05:18 important tricky tricky [ __ ] going on
1:05:20 with open AI which I think is
1:05:22 fascinating I think it's really
1:05:23 interesting
1:05:25 so open AI starts as a nonprofit
1:05:29 company
1:05:31 and Sam Alman
1:05:34 upon understanding that these
1:05:36 Transformer tools the better they get
1:05:39 the more gpus and data you throw at them
1:05:42 the better they get so he recognized
1:05:44 that early on and he said holy [ __ ] we
1:05:46 got to throw as many gpus and as much
1:05:49 data at these large language models as
1:05:51 possible this this Transformer
1:05:52 technology and we can't do that as a
1:05:54 nonprofit so let's turn this to a
1:05:57 for-profit entity and let's find a
1:06:00 partner like O say I don't know
1:06:02 Microsoft someone who's got a lot of
1:06:04 gpus just sitting in in network
1:06:06 operations centers waiting to be
1:06:09 used and and we'll go train this [ __ ]
1:06:12 and so they cut a deal with Microsoft
1:06:14 now when they when they flipped open AI
1:06:16 from nonprofit to for profit they did it
1:06:20 as what's called a a capped for-profit
1:06:22 which I'd never heard of before but the
1:06:25 cap in the for-profit is that no
1:06:28 investor can make more than 100x their
1:06:31 Investments so if if um they put in a
1:06:35 billion dollars they can get a 100
1:06:37 billion out any money that Microsoft
1:06:40 would have made above a hundred billion
1:06:42 actually they put in 10 right so so a
1:06:45 trillion right anything that they make
1:06:48 anything that open AI makes above that
1:06:51 goes back to the nonprofit
1:06:55 which is then going to get distributed
1:06:58 to World ID holders
1:07:01 using worldcoin using this crypto so
1:07:06 so he's going to take the excess profit
1:07:10 and redistribute that back to people so
1:07:13 he's he's taking the excess profit of AI
1:07:16 productivity and redistributing that
1:07:18 back to people who were

1:14:15 don't I don't think it's going to be a
1:14:17 long-term necessity I think it's going
1:14:18 to be a similar sort of thing as as the
1:14:21 coid disruption where we needed to do
1:14:23 something to sort of buoy the economy
1:14:26 because we told everyone to stay [ __ ]

1:14:30 where I was for 3 years um or two
1:14:33 years and so so I think there's going to
1:14:35 be some sort of disruption like that so

1:16:46 quality of the work and and maybe even
1:16:48 decrease the time which increases
1:16:50 efficiency
1:16:52 so I I get that one of the risks of
1:16:56 tools that automate everything is that
1:16:58 is that you just get this crap spewing
1:17:00 it out but here's the reality of
1:17:03 AI one of the misconceptions is oh the
1:17:06 robots are making these tweets or the
1:17:08 robots are making this content or the
1:17:10 robots are making this picture the
1:17:12 robots are stealing this [ __ ] no
1:17:15 no human
1:17:18 beings with
1:17:20 intention are using these tools to do
1:17:25 [ __ ] and even if these tools are
1:17:27 automated you still have a human being
1:17:29 going I want you to do this
1:17:33 [ __ ] what my experience has been is that
1:17:37 the the people that I know that are you
1:17:39 know critically thinking and not just
1:17:41 thinking I need to you know not these
1:17:43 people you can make money
1:17:45 with these people are going to spew out
1:17:48 piles of garbage but what's going to
1:17:52 happen
1:17:54 there there was a I took an acting class
1:17:56 well I took many acting classes I went
1:17:57 to school for
1:17:59 acting but one of the one of the really
1:18:02 impactful classes I had was was
1:18:06 um a Shakespearean script analysis class
1:18:11 and we were taught how to look at I Amic
1:18:15 pentameter the structure of how
1:18:16 Shakespeare wrote and figure out where
1:18:19 are the dramatic moments based on the
1:18:22 structure of the
1:18:24 text that are Clues to the actor for
1:18:27 when to act right and and one of the
1:18:31 things that the professor said
1:18:34 was if you treat every word as important
1:18:39 then no words are
1:18:42 important and it was like oh and so what
1:18:46 we learned was how to look at a block of
1:18:48 text where it just looks like all of
1:18:50 these words are these really complicated
1:18:51 words and they're all really [ __ ]
1:18:52 important and realize that for five of
1:18:55 these lines Shakespeare has it in
1:18:57 perfect diamic pentameter and in this
1:19:00 last line it's missing a
1:19:03 couplet so it was in I Amic
1:19:06 quadramet that line was was not like the
1:19:09 others ah there's a clue that missing
1:19:12 spot in the text that's a pause Ah
1:19:16 that's a clue for me as an actor to just
1:19:18 go through these words and build up to
1:19:21 this pause which probably means one of
1:19:23 words in this last line is probably more
1:19:25 important than this other
1:19:28 [ __ ] so what's going to happen with the
1:19:31 the generative AI tools is the you can
1:19:34 make money with chat GPT crowd is going
1:19:36 to create machines that generate piles
1:19:40 and piles and piles of steaming
1:19:43 [ __ ] so there's going to be lots more
1:19:45 content out there absolutely agree and
1:19:48 it'll be [ __ ] just like you say but
1:19:51 what's going to happen it's all going to
1:19:53 nor normalize it's all going to feel
1:19:54 like the same thing and you're going to
1:19:56 be able to recognize it as oh that's
1:19:58 just that crap right initially it's
1:20:01 going to fool us cuz it's going to be
1:20:02 more sophisticated than the the junk
1:20:04 mail of today initially it's going to
1:20:07 fool us but then all of a sudden we're
1:20:09 going to realize all this crap down here
1:20:10 is crap and what's going to happen is
1:20:13 this there're going to be some piece of
1:20:14 content that rises above the noise and

1:20:20 that different because a human being was
1:20:22 behind that with intention
