92. 19:17attention of AI office hours today on LinkedIn. And so we watched this there and we were talking about it and I just
93. 19:24thought it'd be fun to play because um I'm feeling like we're we're we're entering a phase where people who are
94. 19:39not into AI or people who are actively resisting AI are going to be overrun with it anyway. Um, and and this video
95. 19:50just feels like it's it's kind of commentary on that. Um, and I just think it's I think it's a it's a really good
96. 19:57video, but b I think it's worth us exploring some of these themes because this is this is the this is the timeline

126. 26:36it. Like it's kind of a cool it's kind of a cool idea that in the future there's going to be you know this
127. 26:47either nationwide or worldwide vote on do we bring AI AGI online. Um, and I just it's not going to happen that way, right? Like it's just,
128. 27:02you know, I think it's just going to it's just going to be there and just all of a sudden, you know, we're going to
129. 27:08need to deal with it. Um, I don't think it's going to be as dramatic as all this, but I I love the I love the idea
130. 27:13of it. I love the sort of, you know, 10 years in the future, the the big event where, you know, all the current tech
131. 27:21overlords of today are now, you know, 10 years older graying and, you know, super powerful leaders of the world. Um,
132. 27:32yeah, crazy, crazy just, but it's a really well done piece. You know, I think it's fascinating that it's a piece
133. 27:38that is kind of this dystopian view of the future. Um, but it's all done with AI. Um, I just thought it was particularly well done.
134. 27:50You know that it was clearly crafted. It was clear clearly edited professionally. Um, you know, written professionally,
135. 27:59executed professionally, but with someone who really knows their [ __ ] with AI. Uh, the video is really good.
136. 28:06It's not going to be a vote. I agree. Yeah. It's just going to be they're just gonna turn it on. Just going to be there. Digital Gods
137. 28:14um AI version of Been Down So Long. It looks like up to me. Yeah. Why so apocalyptic? I I just I think the why so
138. 28:23apocalyptic, you know, this is one of the things that that struck me about this today is um this feels very
139. 28:33thematically in line with the Theo Vaughn interview. If you haven't seen the Theo Vaughn interview of um of Sam
140. 28:41Alman, Theo Theo comes in and he does it in a really polite way, but he comes in with a very dystopian view of the
141. 28:48future. And it's all just based on stories he's got in his head about who he thinks, you know, AI CEOs are and what he thinks
142. 28:58the technology is. and and it's it's like 90 minutes of of sort of mythbusting um where where he has a certain
143. 29:08presumption and then Sam Alman kind of shatters that worldview and in the end Theo Vaughn is kind of left like
144. 29:16I don't I don't know how to feel about this like like I I feel like in talking with you I should feel optimistic and
145. 29:23but I also feel like I should be scared and Sam Alman's like yeah you should be both and it's it's sort left in this
146. 29:30weird sort of limbo. And I I feel like this piece is very much, you know, in that vein where it's like, you know,
147. 29:38it's an it's an inevitability that this thing's going to happen that even if we put it up to a vote, this thing's going
148. 29:44to happen and, you know, the the resistance is going to resist it and things like that. I also the other thing
149. 29:51that that the aesthetic of this reminded me of there was this moment in 1994 or 1995. I think it was 95 and I was living in Soho in New York
150. 30:03City and I had started Urban Desires, my online magazine and and I had just started agency.com and I was walking with my
151. 30:14wife down downtown Soho in Prince Street and I saw a table with an artist that had a bunch of art on the table and then
152. 30:24behind him on a brick wall was sort of like, you know, slathered on a big piece of fabric that had like the name of an
153. 30:32art show and a and a a worldwide web URL. It said https colon slash and then had the the whole thing. Um,
154. 30:44and it was the first time I had seen anything that was tied to the the the digital world of the worldwide web with the
155. 30:56physical world. they were sort of brought together for the first time that I had seen it. Um, and it it really stuck with me because it felt
156. 31:06it felt like a significant thing like this this worldwide web thing isn't just for geeks, right? Artists have noticed it. artists
157. 31:16are using it and and this video very much captured that same kind of vibe that AI like the worldwide web is going to
158. 31:28change everything. It's going to change everything just just like the worldwide web did. I think AI is going to change
159. 31:34it faster and more profoundly. Um, but we're right at that flux point right now where even people that don't want to
160. 31:44deal with AI are being forced to deal with it. Mickey Jackson, the video reminds me of graffiti art. Yes, if that
161. 31:50makes any sense. It that that's exactly Mickey, that's exactly what what what just what popped into my head was this
162. 31:57graffiti in New York City of a of a URL in 1995. It's amazing archetypal going to be like every other update. It'll be
163. 32:06game-changing for a week and then boring by the end of the month. That's that's exactly my And in the Theo Vaughn interview,
164. 32:14there's a moment where Sam Alman um Theo Vaughn asks him, I think, like, does it ever scare you? And Sam
165. 32:26Alman said he had gotten an email and he didn't understand the email and he took that email and put it into chat GPT5 and
166. 32:33it answered it flawlessly. And I maybe it was a technical thing. I don't know what it was. Um and he sat back and he he said he
167. 32:42realized in that moment how unnecessary he was that that he was the bottleneck that he was not really needed in that interaction and
168. 32:55and then he said and then he just moved on and did the next thing. So, he had this real revelation of, "Holy [ __ ]
169. 33:01this thing's way smarter than me." And he just went on and did the next thing. And I I do I kind of agree uh that that
170. 33:09it's going to be like that. Silverf Fox, I think dystopian can be healthy. How do you know what's good unless you truly
171. 33:16know what's bad? Yeah. I And I absolutely agree with that. I just my problem with the whole dystopian um the doomers, the AI doomers is that
172. 33:30like like the vaugh interview I thought I thought was a really good example of this that they've got ideas of what the
173. 33:37dystopian future looks like that are not based in their experience of using AI. They're based in their fantasies of what they think
174. 33:48the tech elite is and what they think AI is and what Hollywood has told them AI is. So there's this whole vision of a
175. 33:56dystopian future that's disconnected from people that actually use the tool. Um Tik Tok pin um dynamic Dion anyone
176. 34:08who doesn't trust AI clearly isn't using it properly. Yeah. And I listen I think you can use AI and not trust it. But but it's
177. 34:22I think the thing that I get the most from people who don't use AI is that there's no nuance to it, right?
178. 34:30It's just evil. It's just theft. It's just bad. It's just going to kill us. There's no possibility of it. It's just
179. 34:41going to take jobs, right? There's no possibility of it doing anything else like improving someone's life or curing
180. 34:51diabetes, type 1 diabetes. I think there are now nine new patients going on whatever the treatment is to cure,
181. 35:00not treat, to cure type 1 diabetes. Like that's happening right now as we speak. But the doomers, you know, none of that's all
182. 35:15Gareth Hood. If AGI ever happens, the difference in how AI people will handle it versus non AI people will be miles apart.
183. 35:24Well, that's the thing. I just I just um I just get the sense that we're about to enter, you know, maybe it's by the end of 2025.
184. 35:40We're going to enter a phase where even people that don't want to deal with AI are going to have to deal with it. I
185. 35:47just got one of the the uh the um lead creative people from from agency.com days, Andy Hobsbomb, who's a
186. 35:58who's a good friend of mine and who is a uh he was the um chief creative officer of online magic that agency.com
187. 36:07acquired. Really, really talented guy, really smart, amazing musician. Um, and I just got a correspondence from
188. 36:16him that he's like, you know, I said, "How you doing?" He's like, "Yeah, I'm doing fine. I'm doing good
189. 36:20professionally." He goes, "I'm a little depressed as a musician." And it's, you know, and I I was talking
190. 36:28Leah Leah today in the in the AI salon mastermind conversation in the in the founders hangout was just talking about
191. 36:37she feels a responsibility for the people that are like the professional lighting people that that she would hire
192. 36:43to do her photo shoots. She's like, I I feel like I've got this personal responsibility for them, you know, to somehow hire them moving
193. 36:52forward. And you know, I I just don't like the world is changing around them. I feel like it's on them to figure out
194. 37:06how to make themselves relevant in this new world. And you know, someone who's really good at lighting
195. 37:13can take those skills and apply them to AI image generation, but it's just a different thing. It's a fundamentally
196. 37:20different thing. But the people that are going to be hired in the future are not going to be the people that carry around
197. 37:27the lighting rigs, you know, at scale. Uh Cam Katkin, I'm tired of dystopian. Can we have an optimistic, hopeful solar
198. 37:35punk future? Well, we should make it. We should absolutely make it. Archetypal architect. I think we've had AGI for a
199. 37:42while now. We We just aren't clever enough to realize it. I you know I they keep moving the goalpost on what
200. 37:52AGI is. I I had a personal AGI moment when 01 came out almost a year ago. Um where I realized I wasn't I didn't have
201. 38:02the kind of problems that I needed to solve with a with a reasoning model. And I'm like I can make them up. like I
202. 38:11can pretend like I've got something to ask it. And I, you know, I feel like like I'm an ambitious creative person, right? I love
203. 38:23inventing stuff. I love synthesizing stuff. I love thinking about stuff. I love putting things in the world, putting ideas in the world.
204. 38:31And I'm already at the point with AI where I don't know enough about what I want to do to even know what to ask it to do.
205. 38:43And if you think about someone who's just not playing with AI and doesn't have that entrepreneurial thing and
206. 38:48doesn't have that drive, what are they going to do with it? I guess maybe they'll make books for their kids or
207. 38:54greeting cards or something like that. Songs. Um, I bet people didn't get real excited about the advent of human flight either,
208. 39:04but many of them live to see men on the moon. Yeah, I think that's right. Or or, you know, to go back to the steam engine,
209. 39:14you know, predictions of, you know, everyone's lives are going to be ruined because these machines are going to
210. 39:21destroy 80% of the jobs. And they did. 80% of the farmer jobs went away. Well, where did those people go? They went to
211. 39:29cities and they invented new kinds of jobs, new kinds of economies. So, that's that's that's kind of stuff that happens.
212. 39:40But in the short term, it's absolutely freaky. Uh, I'm with you, Cam, though. I think that let's find the silver lining here
213. 39:52because if it's inevitable then let's make the [ __ ] best of it. That that was another thing from the Theo Vaughn interview with Sam Alman
214. 40:04where Sam Alman just said, you know, I realize I'm gonna I'm going to be in these high pressure situations
215. 40:13and why don't I just learn to like it and just accept that I'm going to be in this high pressure situation. So for us,
216. 40:22if we know that AGI is coming, well, there's two ways we can handle that. The map said AGI And the what? The what? Move your
217. 40:34cursor. There you go. The myth said you all feel like a cloud. The map and the myth. I don't Is that a That might be a cultural reference. I
