39. 9:22true then I open my eyes to dream realized in front of me and I haven't got a clue what in the world is happening to
40. 9:39me think I think I'm happy huge crowd of anti- AI music C creators banded together to hate on AI yep that's okay that's going to happen
41. 9:52like it's probably going to get worse before it gets better in terms of the haters because the only thing that's easy to
42. 10:04see right now is the disruption it's easy when you see that Beetles song it's easy to see that that the world before is going to
43. 10:18cease to exist right and if the world before is how you make your money today then you look at that and you go well
44. 10:30things are not looking bright right everything's going to die is is the emotional feeling and the reality is is
45. 10:37just that everything's going to change it's going to die for some people it's going to Blossom for others it's going
46. 10:42to be completely reinvented for others but as these tools get more and more powerful I think we're going to see
47. 10:50more and more people go absolutely not AI is the devil cuz hater's going to hate that's it Joker I think it's a legitimate concern
48. 11:06musicians have about their music being used as a data set without their consent well there's there's a for so for me I
49. 11:14kind of go like there's a for me there's a Tipping Point right if you're if you're effectively training it on all
50. 11:23the data then it kind of becomes like um this is essentially the output of humanity and it's going into this you
51. 11:33know modern day equivalent of a museum or a library where we can go benefit from the output of society now the
52. 11:43[ __ ] up thing about it is we're too early to have compensation models for it like so here's the deal here's the way I look at
53. 11:51it if open AI had gone out and gotten permission from every copyright holder for every piece of work ever created
54. 12:00that was ever put on the internet chat GPT wouldn't exist these tools wouldn't exist same with suo same with mid
55. 12:08Journey same with all these now so so so this is an industry right now that's in a ask ask forgiveness rather than ask
56. 12:17permission mode because if they ask permission the answer would be go [ __ ] yourself right so there's there's a very
57. 12:26real argument to say what they're creating is absolutely for the benefit of society longer term um and that's
58. 12:35coming at the expense of the status quo and that's scaring the [ __ ] out of people and I totally get that um again I go back to I think
59. 12:51that I hope I hope that where this goes is that we'll have [Music]
60. 13:07I I hope that we'll have systems and maybe open AI makes one of these maybe Adobe makes one of these we'll have systems where artists
61. 13:16can create their own models easily and charge for them right so I could make if if I take my photography site I could
62. 13:24take the official Kyle Shannon photography all my photographs create a Kyle Shannon photography model put that
63. 13:32onto whatever Adobe stock or um you know uh Getty or some [ __ ] like that and then anytime someone uses my model to
64. 13:44generate an image I get you know a hundredth of a penny or whatever it might be that that we compensate artists
65. 13:51in a proactive way on the generation rather than on the on the use but the current model is based on compensating them on the use not on the
66. 14:02generation right and so so so what Happ what's happening is people are generating all this content that looks
67. 14:09like other artist content and they're like well if you're going to make that content that I can't generate on the use
68. 14:15right so I think I think we're in a transition we're at the very beginning of a transition and it looks like
69. 14:20everything's going to be flushed down the toilet I got to quit falling asleep on Tik Tok muted 17 people
70. 14:32there is an argument for fair use listen I and and I'm not I'm not advocating that all of what's happened is fair use
71. 14:39I think a lot of what's happened is fair theft but I I do not see a plausible alternative to creating a foundational
72. 14:51large language model then getting as much data as you can get your hands on and if it was on the Internet it's in
73. 14:57the it's in the training set and likely not for nothing even if it's not on the public internet there's
74. 15:04probably a lot of that in the training set too because they probably did [ __ ] to get here here's here's what's clear
75. 15:10to me one of the reasons open AI has such an advantage they they've essentially been King of the Hill for more than a year
76. 15:20now which with things is moving as fast as they are is just weird right what that says to me is they got their hands on more better
77. 15:30data I can only assume that that wasn't all done with you know puppies puppies and rainbows and smooches right so we can assume that
78. 15:44there was some uh they proclaimed do no evil as they were scraping the [ __ ] out of whatever they could because it's
79. 15:51almost like they get one shot to do this right because once people get their heads around what what you're doing with
80. 15:58their data they're like [ __ ] pay me for using my [ __ ] which that's the stage we're in right now and that's you know that's that's
81. 16:07that's a bit [Music] rough but you know I still go back to I think that we've got um we we've we've we've got to find a
82. 16:23new way to compensate people because if you take that Beetle song I don't know if you've seen the Beatles
83. 16:31song I can play it here it's it's it's a Tik Tok video that someone put up um and if you look at it and you just go out two years
84. 16:43probably not even two years you're probably just going to be able to say I want to hear a new Beatles song or I want to hear a new whatever
85. 16:52Kyle shamon song and I want I want the topic to the be to be this and I want the feel to be this and I want it to start playing
86. 17:02right now and it'll start playing right now so everyone is going to have their own think of having Spotify except it's only
87. 17:13songs for you it's it's this personalized thing but you may have those in the style of your favorite artists
88. 17:24well it doesn't make sense to charge for the song that you created created for an audience of one right like if I create
89. 17:33the K Kyle Shannon version of a Beatles song and I'm just going to listen to that two or three times and then never
90. 17:38listen to it again for the rest of my life that doesn't make sense that you would pay an artist on that but it does
91. 17:47make sense that I would pay an artist every time I want to make a song that sounds like the Beatles that that
92. 17:52would go to The Beatles estate or whoever owns the the you know writing rights or the recording rights whatever
93. 17:58whatever rights their in there that makes sense to me but the infrastructure isn't there so all it looks like right now to
94. 18:06artists is our life is [ __ ] and listen not for nothing being an artist your life is [ __ ] anyway my wife's an artist I'm we're

102. 19:33enter right think think metaverse if it didn't suck and then movies are going to become video games so the way Sora
103. 19:45Works Sora as as impressive as it is the the video model that open AI produced the fact that it produces video is kind
104. 19:54of the least interesting thing about it the interesting thing about it is the way it's making that video is by
105. 20:02understanding and simulating the physical world and then it it's got a special thing called patches where it breaks a
106. 20:10frame up into you know like I don't know whatever 200 patches and then it looks at those patches over a 100 frames and
107. 20:17it and that's how it maintains its consistency but it's doing that because it understands the the the rules of the
108. 20:26physical environment it's portraying and so what this says to me is we're going to be able to do things like I don't
109. 20:35know like hit a plot point in a movie and do you know do branching narratives or or watch a scene from The Getaway
110. 20:45driver's point of view and then watch that same sign from the that same scene from the cop's point of view
111. 20:55right interesting interesting s what are you cooking up there boy what are you cooking up I'll tell you what mhm oh

121. 22:24down after like 2 minutes after the dog gets tired of singing and but I just decd decided to keep it on tonight Drew
122. 22:29said why don't you just pluck around on your guitar while you talk to us so that's what's going on but the
123. 22:34opportunity to play creatively and get your Yaya out one of the things that I've experienced with generative AI you
124. 22:42can take any idea in your head and get it out of your head incredibly quickly and manifest it into some form faster
125. 22:49than ever before and it allows you to operate at a higher level of of creative thinking and creative e execution than
126. 22:56ever before and it's absolutely remarkable I think a lot of people don't get how dramatic the changes are that
127. 23:02are going on the AI technology is massively powerful so we want to help you to get the fun out to get the play
128. 23:11going and take advantage of this remarkable creative revolution and you know one of the things that hopefully we
129. 23:19can do is we've been playing with lots of these tools so we can help you short circuit you know a learning time for for
130. 23:25having to figure out which ones are worth your times which on are a waste of time if you come to this Workshop none
131. 23:31of what we're going to show you is going to be a waste of your time we promise we'll get you up to speed quickly and
132. 23:35not just hand you a fish but teach you how to fish so that you can leave this workshop and and start mastering and

151. 26:28they don't even know what it is that's a lot that's a lot to not know for something that is this transformative
152. 26:35and that is moving this fast and that is going to be this disruptive to have more than 34 of at least America and globally
153. 26:43it's probably worse than that right not even be aware of what's coming is just wild to me guy next to me saw me
154. 26:52watching you last night during Wi-Fi on our flight spreading the the good word of AI that's hilarious that Wi-Fi is good
155. 27:01enough to watch the old Tik Tok my it husband makes fun of me yeah see there you go investor friendly agent that's it
156. 27:09it husband makes fun of her oh you're doing that stupid AI stuff that's not real technology that's that's it's not
157. 27:16real programmers that's fake oh you're doing your cute little poems in your chat JP yeah exactly you you just wait till
158. 27:26you you you make a GPT that does his job for him and then he'll be like you can make money with J tell him you're starting an it
159. 27:40consultancy I think most people feel overwhelmed by it Diana that's a big a big part of why I do this is is to
160. 27:49address exactly that and you know this is when I first started getting into AI I was thinking like oh this is this is
161. 27:56good for efficiency and we can build off automations and everything will be more efficient and we'll do our work more
162. 28:01efficiently and I was only thinking about this AI stuff in the in the context of work and as and you know computers as a work augmentation
163. 28:13tool and more and more I'm I'm leaning why we're calling our Workshop a playshop um is that I think I think it's
164. 28:25really important right now to play because this is absolutely overwhelming and I think it's important
165. 28:32to get you know to to just have as good an attitude as you can about it by just like take the pressure off having to to
166. 28:39learn it all cuz you can't and take the pressure off it having to be perfect and you knowing exactly what to do with
167. 28:52it so I think just playing is the I think playing is the key right now so it's a really good point most people do
168. 28:58feel overwhelmed by it I think a lot of people in this channel a lot of people on the salon right now like the the
169. 29:04salon turned a year old in December and so we're we're a year and three year and four months old and it definitely goes through macro
170. 29:17cycles of enthusiasm and then it kind of dips into like Mala and depression and then it sort of rolls back up it's it's these big waves and
171. 29:29then within it there's like lots of little waves of of just this is exciting it's a great perspective to play yeah
172. 29:36just play You're brilliant Oh thanks thank you master of Fortune um yeah and and and one of the things
173. 29:44that I would strongly encourage you to do is play um play tangentially I call it I I did I I did what what I do it
174. 29:56for oh for the workshop I just gave two weeks ago at the the Denver thing I came up with this idea of play in your skill
175. 30:07vacuums so a skill vacuum like for me a skill vacuum is I can't draw for [ __ ] and while I can play guitar and sing a
176. 30:15little bit I don't really know music theory and I can't I I can write songs okay but I don't do it a lot so I'm not
177. 30:22good at music I don't have the attention span for programming right those are skill vector for me so I think it's a
178. 30:32really exciting to to play with AI in your skill vacuums and see how good the tools are doing the [ __ ] that you're not good
179. 30:41at because now you get to be good at those things and what you might find is that you're actually really good at
180. 30:48these AI tools that are in your skill vacuums and you'll also have some more fun and again take the pressure off take
181. 30:54the pressure off of having to like learn the [ __ ] you did and get better at it and you better learn AI or you're going
182. 31:01to be left behind you dumb dumb don't do that skill [Music]

188. 32:23released on Google Play recently inspired me yep I heard that someone I heard someone talking about their 16-year-old kid like
189. 32:36started learning Ai and basically said I think I'm going to make an IOS app had never coded before just [ __ ] had chat GPT walking
190. 32:47through the process and [ __ ] built and launched an IOS app that's the world we're in and it's going to get it's going to get way crazy
191. 32:57CER right right now if you want to if you want to do that kind of thing you need to know a lot of the peace part
192. 33:04tools and duct tape them all together cuz everything's janky right now met a lawyer yesterday first thing he told me that chat GPT
193. 33:17copies oh that chat GPT copies and his colleague got in trouble well sure cuz his colleague probably didn't proof read the work [Laughter]
194. 33:29[Music] I don't I don't have a ton of sympathy for people that just use chat GPT Without Really knowing how to use it and
195. 33:42know what its limitations are here's the other reason to play the other reason to play with these tools and ask them to do
196. 33:49stupid [ __ ] and ask and push the B boundaries of them is so that you can figure out oh they're actually not
197. 33:56really good at this certain kind kind of thing or when it generates like a whole marketing plan you're like oh that's
198. 34:02really impressive and then when you read the marketing plan you realized that the same idea is repeated like four
199. 34:08different times and and the language is all funky and wonky and weird and that's probably got more to do with you being a shitty
200. 34:17prompter than chat GPT not being good right so if people are lazy and just go in and go make me a legal brief and then
201. 34:25they just [ __ ] turn the work in like H that was was easy I'm going golfing that's on them like understand your
202. 34:33tools you know if you're if in in the '90s if you were in print production and didn't understand the difference between
203. 34:41RGB and cmk images and you put an RGB image in a CMYK print job it was going to look like [ __ ] that doesn't look like anything
204. 34:51like the colors that I saw on the screen what's going on well what's going on is you don't understand and the tools [Music]
205. 35:06tool I tried to read wait I tried to read but find it harder to do for long oh I love to read but find it
206. 35:14harder to do for long summaries by chat GT to the rescue I'll tell you what as someone with ADD reading for me is
207. 35:22torture I I basically don't read Because when I read like I don't know how to is for normal people but when you have ADD in the in
208. 35:32the particular flavor that I have I don't which I don't even know what it is but doesn't matter um the minute I start
209. 35:41reading the only thought in my head is when will this be done and like and and and I'm like how many how how many more pages like how
210. 35:54many pages have I read how many pages are coming how long do you think it's going to be like that's going on all the
211. 35:59time and then sometimes I'll hear it or I'll you know I'll recognize that I haven't like words have been going into
212. 36:06my eyeballs but the only the only thing my brain's been understanding is well you know if if I can read a page a
213. 36:13minute then 15 minutes from now I'll be halfway through this oh that seems like a really long time and I go oh I haven't
214. 36:19been reading and I'll go back and I'll start the chapter over and then [ __ ] three chapters in I'm like you know this
215. 36:26would probably take me three weeks that's reading for me so I don't do it cuz it's [ __ ] it's just torture
216. 36:33now with chat jpt someone says oh you should go read this book I'm like awesome I go in I put in the book I'm
217. 36:39like tell me what it's about give it to me in 10 bullet points so I can you know the 10 most important bullet points I
218. 36:45going read them I'm like got it perfect don't need to know anymore um how did you get into AI you know a
219. 36:54lot oh thank you very much Julian um so I started well I've been in I've been in sort of tech and storytelling
220. 37:03Innovation for lots and lots of years I I I I'm a Storyteller by training um in the mid 90s I started one
221. 37:11of the first online magazines and I started one of the first digital agency so I was Chief creative officer of a
222. 37:17digital agency called agency.com from 95 I left in 2002 um and we built a lot of the first websites for the Fortune 500 and and
223. 37:27then my current company is storyvine which is an automated video storytelling platform so I'm constantly looking for
224. 37:36like what's the next big thing and like when when blockchain and nfts got all hot like two or three years ago um I was
225. 37:43like oh this looks really interesting and I got into those and having been having been an entrepreneur in the early days of the
226. 37:52worldwide web as I was playing around with blockchain and nfts I'm like wow there seems to be a lot of excit around
227. 37:58this this seems like this could be a big thing and then the more I learned about the projects the more they just seemed
228. 38:05like nft Bros trying to like rip each other off they were just basically it was like this big circle jerk of people
229. 38:12trying to like serve as each other's you know exit liquidity for their stupid [ __ ] projects that had no value so I
230. 38:20kind of got soured by that but while I was doing all that I got involved with a project called pixel mind and pixel mind was an
231. 38:29nft project that was built on top of stable diffusion and it was kind of like Mad Libs for images it would it would
232. 38:35say like you know a cyborg and then it would have a blank for an animal and you'd put in lion or tiger or bunny or
233. 38:43Hedgehog and then it was a pre-prom thing that would make this amazing image and so I spent like six or seven months
234. 38:51just playing around with pixel mind like looking at AI images and then I thought this this this is fascinating there's
235. 38:59something here so maybe I should learn stable diffusion and so I taught myself how to install stable diffusion and use
236. 39:06Google collab notebooks and I failed nine times like nine different sittings sitting down at the computer trying to
237. 39:13get stable diffusion to run and just failed [ __ ] miserably and then I finally got it and and I installed this thing called dream
238. 39:23Booth which allowed me to upload pictures of myself and have stable diffusion make like these really crazy
239. 39:29self-portraits of me I was like oh that's kind of cool and in fact like these
240. 39:49are I love that image these are some of the images that that I did um using stable diffus and dream booth and as I made all these
241. 40:01sort of crazy ass images of me I was like well they they're me but they're not me and it's like I like this guy is
242. 40:10sort of like you know fat Willy Wonka it was it's funny dream Booth it either made me super handsome or like [ __ ]
243. 40:16you know 450 lbs um but I thought that was [ __ ] you know this is [ __ ] funny and then like I would see this and I'm
244. 40:24like I wonder what this guy's story is I wanted to know their story so I created a project called called Kyle Shannon
245. 40:30dreams with with all these images that I wrote the stories for and so just about the time I was getting getting my head
246. 40:38around this stuff chat GPT came out and so that was November 30th 2022 and I just I immediately lost my mind and
247. 40:46realized holy [ __ ] this is the next worldwide web that that Chachi BT represents for machine learning what the
248. 40:56worldwide web repres presented for the internet that easy access where everyone can now have access to these incredibly
249. 41:03powerful tools um and so I just I started the AI Salon the next week like I literally when chat gbt came out I was
250. 41:12already kind of into this stuff and thinking about starting a group and then and then chat GPT came out and I'm like
251. 41:19[ __ ] it so December 7th 2022 we had our first AI Salon meeting um and we've had them every two weeks ever since and then
252. 41:27I started this Tik Tok Channel then and I started a newsletter and I started thinking about completely rethinking my
