3:52 research tools so there's five of them
3:56 now that I've identified then there
3:57 might be more but these are the five
3:59 that I know chat GPT has a deep research
4:02 tool perplexity has a deep research tool
4:04 Gemini has a deep research tool deep
4:07 seek has a free a deep research tool and
4:10 then
4:11 Manis um is just an agent that just
4:15 [ __ ] goes Bonkers and goes and does a
4:17 bunch of research so it's effectively
4:19 deep research I think the definition of
4:22 deep research as far as I'm gathering it
4:25 is search combined with reasoning and I
4:29 don't think that Manis is actually
4:31 reasoning but Manis is using Claude to
4:35 deploy 36 different tools so it's kind
4:39 of a different thing but it's still
4:40 pretty [ __ ]
4:41 impressive um but what here's one of the
4:45 things I learned
4:47 today
4:48 um if you've got zero subject matter
4:52 expertise in an
4:54 area like say research I'm shitty at
4:57 research I don't know anything about it
5:00 um
5:01 when these deep research tools do what
5:03 they
5:04 do I like I have no way of of analizing
5:08 if it's any good or not so I was kind of
5:11 struck today with how clueless I felt
5:13 again because it went off and did
5:14 something that I had no way to evaluate
5:17 so thought that was that was you know
5:20 what are you gonna do you learn you
5:22 learn so I'm supposed to be leading this
5:24 four-week Sprint to use uh deep research
5:31 so I think what I'm going to do is I'm
5:32 going to have everyone do homework
5:34 between the meetings and then just tell
5:35 us what they learned I think that's
5:38 going to be the way to do

6:05 markdown so they're basically just text
6:08 files in markdown but I don't I don't
6:10 quite know how to get them from that
6:12 into like when you copy and paste
6:15 markdown into like Google Docs it just
6:18 does it as the raw text it doesn't
6:20 reformat it so I'm trying to figure out
6:22 how to do that so I went to have Manis
6:24 generate the
6:27 um word docs which I'm sure can do and
6:31 then it just said your context is too
6:33 long and you've used up all your credits
6:35 for the day oh okay Brandon has two

10:38 but go ahead yeah so if you're in Google
10:41 Docs and you go to your tools bar and go
10:46 down to preferences you've got this
10:49 funny little option here that says
10:52 enable markdown oh why would they not
10:56 default that uh I don't work for Google
10:59 you have to ask
11:01 uh but once you do that you have the
11:03 ability to rightclick and paste from
11:07 markdown and then once you do that it
11:09 recognizes and formats the markdown okay
11:12 so you have to you have to rightclick to
11:14 paste you can't just paste it okay yep
11:16 yeah right click and then paste from
11:18 markdown also Manis does give you the
11:21 ability to download uh via
11:24 PDF yeah that I that I saw the problem
11:27 with downloading with PDF is it's not
11:29 easily editable so what I was trying to
11:32 get it to do was default to I wonder I
11:34 bet in Manis if you said um you know put
11:38 the output in Microsoft Word documents
11:41 formatted Microsoft Word documents I bet
11:43 it would do that or even just you know
11:45 format it okay cool beautiful love it

15:00 say um uh now
15:04 describe that using rendered
15:09 markdown so if you have a browser that
15:11 can understand
15:15 markdown well no uh now render it so I
15:21 can see how it
15:24 formats or make an
15:28 example oh

15:36 heading two bold text list item link to
15:39 Google pretty slick so you can just say

1:43:22 members and it might might even have it
1:43:24 one or two a month for free members but
1:43:27 I think it's just Plus members
1:43:29 perplexity now has deep
1:43:32 research Google Gemini has deep research
1:43:36 you have to use an individual account
1:43:38 not a workg group
1:43:39 account P can explain
1:43:42 why
1:43:44 um um deep seek has uh deep research
1:43:49 although today um the search
1:43:52 functionality of deep seek seek was not
1:43:54 working so I don't know if that was a
1:43:55 temporary thing and then you've got the
1:43:57 Manis app which which is actually more
1:44:00 like an agentic tool than just deep
1:44:03 research but it can do really deep ass
1:44:05 research it's pretty amazing and then I
1:44:08 included Claude here because Cloud's not
1:44:10 connected to the internet so it can't do
1:44:12 deep research but it's really good at
1:44:15 creating things like dashboards so if
1:44:17 you do really interesting research
1:44:18 things you could take the results of
1:44:20 that into Claude and make dashboards in
1:44:23 in a powerful way the other thing that I
1:44:26 put into this document is the different
1:44:29 modes of large language
1:44:32 models and there's a lot of them now so
1:44:35 there's non- reasoning large language
1:44:37 models like basic chat GPT you give it a
1:44:40 prompt it gives you an
1:44:42 answer chat GPT 4.5 is actually what I
1:44:46 would declare or describe as a high EQ
1:44:49 model so a high uh emotional
1:44:51 intelligence model um so if you're doing
1:44:55 something maybe with qualitative
1:44:56 research or just with you want something
1:44:58 that's slightly more human that's a
1:45:01 different kind of llm that we haven't
1:45:02 really had before explicitly like that
1:45:05 so that's worth playing with perplexity
1:45:07 is a weird kind of hybrid between search
1:45:10 and a large language model um a lot of
1:45:12 the other large language models now have
1:45:14 search as well but but that's kind of a
1:45:17 distinct
1:45:18 capability um then you have reasoning or
1:45:21 deep thinking right and so a lot of
1:45:23 these things have that so that's that's
1:45:25 just sort of a
1:45:28 multi-step uh sort of thinking process
1:45:30 before it gives you an answer and then
1:45:33 deep research combines reasoning with
1:45:38 search um and you know produces these
1:45:41 reports and then you then you've got a
1:45:43 gentic um something like Manis so um so
1:45:48 anyway I just wanted to share that
1:45:49 because in putting this document
1:45:51 together I was like it's there's there's
1:45:53 a lot there so a thing that you could
1:45:55 play with this weekend is just play with
1:45:57 some of the deep research tools you have
1:45:59 access to to and just see what they do
1:46:02 um because they're they're pretty
1:46:04 they're pretty remarkable all right oh
