35. 9:03day of that debacle in Paris um is coming I think this Wednesday Gemini Ultra I invited a friend and my niece

37. 9:24the Irregulars are they're the people that show up here regularly you see do you get how it works cuz they're irregular I don't know they
38. 9:33came up with it it was Amelio's wife she came up with it how's perplexity AI perplexity AI is quite good perplexity AI is particularly good
39. 9:44if you're like doing research and you want things that are not um made up as much because you can restrict it to just
40. 9:52search on certain things like just search on Reddit or just search on Wikipedia or just search on I forget
41. 9:58what the other site are um but any answers that it gives you it gives you citations and it's it's pretty slick
42. 10:05it's pretty slick and I got the pro version of it for free cuz I ordered the rabbit R1 AI device not the other rabbit device
43. 10:16um and so I got it for free but I haven't really played with it enough to to Really rank it but it's good A lot of
44. 10:23people love perplexity I think people that do a lot of research love perplexity me where I'm doing more
45. 10:30creative and marketing kind of stuff um I don't have as much need for it and with all of these tools I think the trick is getting better at
46. 10:42um figuring out which tools are good for which job so Empower pixels I use perplexity instead of Google but
47. 10:52citations Choice could be better yeah I agree with that that like it's pretty limited right now to to just
48. 10:59like Wikipedia let me see what what it is limited to and also these things change on a regular basis
49. 11:22perplexity so if you go to focus you can focus it to wolf from alpha so if you're doing things on mathematical equations you can do academic
50. 11:33searches you can do YouTube searches you can just do like a chat GPT writing kind of experience and then you can also do
51. 11:42Reddit and it's also got this thing called co-pilot which is pretty interesting so when you do a search on
52. 11:48perplexity co-pilot will suggest other things you might want to search on does perplexity have their own index or do
53. 11:54they use Google's index for the back end uh I'm pretty sure they have their own own and if I recall right I think
54. 12:03somebody just invested big in them hang on uh who invested in perplexity
55. 12:18recently Jeff Bezos Amazon Amazon invested in perplexity so it's probably so it's probably perplexities model
56. 12:26sitting on oh wait it works as a chat chatbot style search engine that responds to queries using open AI technology so they're using they're
57. 12:36using probably gp4 for the search and then they're they're combining that with an internet search in in an interesting
58. 12:43way um but I assume now it's hosted on Amazon so that's what's going on there all right welcome everybody

66. 13:57we're all learning how to learn about AI because there's nothing I can really teach you about AI That's not going to
67. 14:05be obsolete in like two months and or sooner like by Wednesday and but but what I'm hoping everyone that comes here a
68. 14:20lot gains is a sense of play in a sense of adventure and a sense of it doesn't [ __ ] matter if you're perfect at it it doesn't matter

79. 16:26like it's coming Wednesday so I thought what might be fun for tonight and tomorrow is to go look at a bunch of the videos that Google
80. 16:38presented like they they had that one that they presented that everyone made fun of we can watch a little bit of that
81. 16:43one where it was like oh they were lying about all that stuff but they put out like 30 videos on Gemini and what's
82. 16:49coming so I thought what might be fun is go take a look at what's coming and get ourselves gird the loins as they say get our loins

212. 39:22soup stage of it so anyone who claims they're an expert right now is full of [ __ ] what that means is everyone trying
213. 39:30to figure this out they're just they're going to come from all different walks of life it's no longer just engineers
214. 39:35and mathematicians and things like that it's artists and creatives and business people and writers and filmmakers and
215. 39:41and just everyone right so inclusion super critical and then the final value is empathy people are scared of this stuff
216. 39:49people are angry about it you know the people at work where you're like ah you want to hear this sayi stuff no all I have that's
217. 40:00fear and we should have empathy for that you know people think that well I'm not technical enough to do AI you don't
218. 40:08need to be technical with this generative AI stuff well it's stealing no it's not stealing it's plagiarizing no it's not
219. 40:16plagiarizing understand how it works so but have empathy for those people and have empathy for each other
220. 40:25because ASC exting as this stuff is it can be a little scary if you're like well I've been a copywriter for 30 years
221. 40:31and all of a sudden uh everything's different yeah and that's going to be like that for every knowledge worker
222. 40:37every creative worker anyone who does any work mediated by computers which is essentially most of the world
223. 40:46right or most of the you know the modern world computers are everywhere your mechanic how does your mechanic bill you
224. 40:59computers right do you have the journey app I don't know what the journey app is it was the oddest thing I thought he meant $4

230. 41:56anyone without any coding skill whatsoever can do it it's it's quite remarkable um and and so she's just her
231. 42:06gpts are just these amazing joyous things that just make all sorts of crazy ass art and she's got one that'll make
232. 42:14recipes for pottery glazes for you cone 6 you need a glaze and Cone six she can do that her her GPT does

311. 56:23December you started hearing rumbling that there was a I forget what they called it a like a there was a red alert at Google about chat
312. 56:32GPT and they were freaking out so they they called this French announcement meeting where they were going to show all the cool AI stuff
313. 56:42they were doing and it was bad it was just it was a lot of like well we've got AI too we've got AI in maps and we've had AI for years
314. 56:54and we vented this [ __ ] it was it was a lot of whining in in a sort of corporate speaky kind of way and then the one thing they were
315. 57:04going to demo the woman gets up to demo it and she's like okay so we're going to demo this new Ai and show you how cool
316. 57:10it is wait wait what huh what what do you mean we lost the phone they they lost their demo phone so she gets up
317. 57:20there to give a demo of this new AI stuff and they didn't have the demo phone and she goes go okay so I guess
318. 57:26we're not going to do that anyway we're really cool with AI so it was it was a [ __ ] train wreck so anyway if a year to the day they come
319. 57:37back with Google Ultra and it's actually or Gemini Ultra and it's actually really good that should be interesting but let's go

332. 59:27the you know the two top guys at Google world we built in the media we consume is in those uh different modalities so
333. 59:35I'm super proud and excited to announce the launch of the Gemini era a first step towards a truly Universal AI model
334. 59:42the Gemini approach to multimodality is all the kinds of things you want uh an artificial intelligence system to be
335. 59:48able to do and these are capabilities that haven't really existed in computers before so additionally multimodal models
336. 59:56are created by stitching together text only Vision only and audio only models in a suboptimal way at a secondary stage
337. 1:00:05Gemini is the multimodel from the ground up so it can seamlessly have a th this is actually pretty important so this idea
338. 1:00:17that you've got you know like your large language model your image model your Audio model as separate tools right so if we go back to

340. 1:00:43vision and it can make images but it's mostly text a little bit of math and a little bit of image but no music no video video

342. 1:01:06image um although you can do some suo music in that but it's through a plugin Pi is text Gro is text llama is text but
343. 1:01:15I think that there are a bunch of multimodal models in the open source world based on that and then pose all
344. 1:01:21over the place there's lots of things there then separately you've got image generation dolly is the one that's incorporated into the chat
345. 1:01:30models but mid Journey Crea Deco here Leonardo and Firefly are all Standalone image things Runway paa haen did and
346. 1:01:39Visa I've listed here are all Standalone video tools and then music 11 labo refusion and sound draw those are all
347. 1:01:47Standalone music tools and then 3D worlds right so so we're very much living in a world right now where all of
348. 1:01:55these models are these distinct things that's why learning this shit's really hard right now because this shit's
349. 1:02:02everywhere you have to learn all sorts of stuff oh night Sherry D night night night sleep well um if you haven't seen

354. 1:02:49just it I was using idag all the time because it was the only only thing that could do text and then Dolly 3 came out
355. 1:02:57and it could do text and because it's incorporated into chat GPT I think that's a much more seamless experience
356. 1:03:05and so and that's why I'm saying this this what what Google's talking about here in this announcement that um
357. 1:03:12they're going you know full multimodal from the beginning um is is actually a really important concept and this is the
358. 1:03:19big shift that we're all going to have to make where where right now we're thinking there's a video tool over here
359. 1:03:26and a this tool over there and a this tool over there and we've got to learn all these different tools we are very
360. 1:03:31quickly moving to a world where all of these things come together in the same interface um and that's going to require
361. 1:03:36a completely different way of thinking so again back to that that idea of there are no experts this is why there are no
362. 1:03:43experts everything's about to change I think I found mid journey in the GPT store weird no I don't think you found mid journey in the GPT

370. 1:05:04into the tools that we all use we're going to be able to take advantage of it faster and better than people who haven't been playing with

372. 1:05:24we're not anywhere close to it right now like we're we're in single digits of people that use chat gbt the fear about AI is equivalent to
373. 1:05:34Y2K on the internet um astronaut I I would counter argue that a bit I think I think the the hype of the fear of AI is absolutely
374. 1:05:48there but anyone who has their Kevin McAllister moment with AI this moment is counterbalancing that fear and so with Y2K you only had the
375. 1:06:02fear right the the Y2K was just you know the the clock is going to strike midnight and planes are going to fall
376. 1:06:11out of the sky that's literally what people were afraid of there was no positive to it right there was no hey if
377. 1:06:18we fix all these these Y2K bugs good things are going to happen it's just if we fix all these Y2K bugs planes might
378. 1:06:26not fall out of the sky so the difference here is you've got a 100 million people tried chat GPT I think
379. 1:06:33they're up to like 180 or 200 million active weekly users using chat GPT so if you take let's say 10% of those are using it a lot
380. 1:06:48that's 18 million 18 million weekly users right using it a lot understand what's coming and you know if you hang
381. 1:06:57out in this channel one of the things that you learn very very quickly is how people are Reinventing themselves and
382. 1:07:06how there's this Joy about learning about Ai and what it's making possible for them that's different that's
383. 1:07:14different than Y2K there there is a lot of fear but the fear is from people who are not experiencing it you couldn't experience Y2K
384. 1:07:24you know unless [ __ ] went South you can experience this stuff now and as people are doing it they're getting excited so
385. 1:07:31anyway let's let's keep watching this because this gets into this is some of the the the video that uh that had you
386. 1:07:38know has has controversy because they sped some [ __ ] up and I'll I'll tell you the stuff that we know they SP
387. 1:07:44conversation across modalities and give you the best possible response Gemini is our lest and most capable model it means
388. 1:07:51that Gemini can understand the world around us in the way that we do uh and absorb any type of input and output so
389. 1:07:59not just text like most models but also code audio image and video what's amazing about Gemini is that it's so
390. 1:08:08good at so many things as we started getting to the end of the training uh we started seeing that Gemini was better
391. 1:08:14than any other model out there on these very very important benchmarks for example each of the 50 different
392. 1:08:21subject there was there was some wonky math in this but there was a there was a way that they did the math that that it
393. 1:08:30was not Apples to Apples but it's still essentially as good as GP that we tested on um it's as good as the best expert
394. 1:08:38humans in those areas it's very rare that you can work on a technology at a foundational level and it simultaneously
395. 1:08:46can impact all our products that pick looks like cubert it totally looks like cubert look at that it's totally cubert
396. 1:08:57work on a technology at a foundational level and it's simultaneously can impact all our products we created a family of
397. 1:09:05models that can run on everything from mobile devices to Data Centers Each of which is actually Best in
398. 1:09:12Class wait Spike Jones AI is not product development a process it was developed decades ago this is the roll out uh I
399. 1:09:22slightly disagree with that Spike the it it was actually rolled out years ago machine okay the Transformer the
400. 1:09:33thing that makes chat GPT possible was invented in 2017 neural networks and machine learning algorithms were
401. 1:09:42developed decades ago but they've been improving and improving and improving 2017 is is the core technology that all
402. 1:09:50of the modern Ai and machine learning that we're playing with was built on um open AI created gpt1 gpt2 and gpt3 in 20
403. 1:10:0618 19 and 20 I think so gpt3 came out in 2020 and then chat GPT came out in 2022 chat GPT is not the roll out chat GPT is the
404. 1:10:21simple interface sitting on top of the powerful models that have been evolving since 2017 so slight slight tweak to what you
405. 1:10:30said there do you think Bing's co-pilot is as fast as GPT 3.5 it's not because it's calling GPT 4 as the underlying
406. 1:10:39model it's not calling 3.5 co-pilot is Microsoft's version of chat GPT 4 it's just not as good all right let's keep going here
407. 1:10:50Gemini will be available in three sizes Gemini Ultra are most most capable and largest model for highly complex tasks
408. 1:10:56Gemini Pro our best performing model for a broad range of tasks and Gemini Nano are most efficient model for on device
409. 1:11:02passas okay this is important so Pro if you go to b.google.r that's essentially Google's 3.5 model the GPT 3.5 model
410. 1:11:16Nano which I actually think is really interesting is a small optimized version of Gemini for devices so the Sam Samsung
411. 1:11:24s24 has got lots of this in it and then Ultra this is the big sexy one that that everyone wants to play with
412. 1:11:32that is rumored to be coming out Wednesday we want to provide the best foundational building blocks and then we
413. 1:11:41know um developers and Enterprise customers are going to figure out really creative ways to further refine our
414. 1:11:49Gemini foundational models and the potential is almost Limitless so at Google there's this healthy disregard for the impossible and that
415. 1:11:58has oriented us to be both bold and responsible together as these systems become more capable all of those
416. 1:12:05capabilities also raise new questions we have to think about what it at Google Deep Mind iterations of multimodal

427. 1:13:39this but it's still pretty impressive what it does if you discount the real ESS of it and The Talky bits no sharp angles or Jagged
428. 1:13:49edges it looks like a bird to me hm what if I had this the bird is swimming in the water it has a long neck and Beak it is a duck yes a
429. 1:14:00duck is a type of Spike Jones I know it was a fake promo I just said that but it it doesn't mean it's fake it
430. 1:14:09just means it's not as slick as this but what it's doing is how it interpreted this stuff is is correct they just had
431. 1:14:17to prompt it in between all these of waterf fell in the family Inay ducks are closely related to and swans the duck
432. 1:14:25appears to be blue this is not a common color for ducks however there are some breeds of blue ducks these are typically
433. 1:14:32not as common as other duck breeds it is more common for ducks to be brown black or white are you sure what the quack I

480. 1:21:54Wednesday I'm guessing not because this feels to me like a different what's that say up there I don't know what that says
