15:25 web- based app so you can use it
15:27 directly in your browser photo offers
15:30 many features similar to photoshop and
15:33 supports files I think i' rather than
15:35 learning Photoshop I think I should I
15:37 should learn some some self-help like

15:43 better as a
15:46 human that's a great shift in Focus here

30:40 board but this direction of reasoning
30:42 models is of particular importance to us
30:45 I think reasoning will unlock I hope

30:49 things we've been waiting years to do
30:51 and the the ability for models like this
30:54 to for example contribute to new science
30:57 uh help right a lot more very difficult
31:00 code that I think can drive from forward
31:02 to a significant degree so you should
31:04 expect rapid Improvement in the O Ser of
31:07 models and it's of great strategic
31:10 importance to us we do our job right all
31:12 right oh wait uh then that will not be
31:17 as important in the future if on the
31:19 other hand you build a company that
31:22 benefits from the model getting better
31:24 and better if you know an oracle told me

31:43 say okay there's this area where there

31:54 the next turn of the model won't be as
31:56 good as me yeah this is a big thing that

32:01 is um if if you're building a company
32:05 around the shortcomings of AI today

32:13 talking about when he's talking about

33:41 at which the AI becomes as good or
33:44 better than most people at most
33:46 economically viable jobs right we're not
33:49 there yet we're maybe at level two we're
33:52 probably at more like level 1.5 of kind
33:54 of a five stage um definition of AGI
33:58 that open AI put out um the bottom one
34:01 is chat Bots the second one is reasoning
34:03 the third one is Agents the fourth one
34:06 is innovators or inventors and the fifth
34:08 one is organizations like imagine having
34:11 a company of
34:14 10,000 PhD level workers working for you
34:17 that's level five AGI we're not even
34:19 close to that yet but the the tough
34:21 three are the first the first three the
34:23 chat Bots we have reasoning we've got a
34:26 crappy version of in 01 preview you and
34:29 then um agents are starting to to show
34:31 up so these three are about to happen
34:35 but what IL is saying here is Agi is
34:38 just kind of like the model is kind of
34:40 like you have like really good
34:42 co-workers working with you and then he
34:45 left open AI to start this company
34:47 called safe super intelligence and so
34:49 here he is talking about super
34:53 intelligence super intelligence is meant
34:55 to convey something far more capable
34:58 than that when you have such a
35:00 capability it's like can we even imagine
35:03 how it will be but without question it's
35:05 going to be unbelievably
35:07 powerful it could be used to solve
35:10 incomprehensibly hard problems if it is
35:14 used well if we navigate the challenges
35:17 that super intelligence POS poses we
35:20 could we
35:22 could radically improve the quality of
35:24 life but the power of super intelligence
35:26 is so vast why did we so I find that
35:29 absolutely flipp and fascinating that
35:32 you know we're heading we're heading

37:14 what kind of global advantages could it

37:22 shifting but but I don't I don't think
37:25 any of us can comprehend how fast it's

37:33 years within you know one to two years
37:35 AGI within five year within three years
37:38 after that ASI artificial super
37:40 intelligence so we're going to we're
37:43 going to have five or six major entities
37:47 that are going to have that level of of

37:54 Source models right so um that's going
37:57 to be absolutely

39:33 and that will expand the Rel
39:37 possibility to
39:41 focus knowledge of llms
39:45 changed how you think about writing and
39:48 communication I mean I think we are
39:50 going to all not all of us I think many
39:52 of us are going to write in a different
39:54 way in the future I don't mean like
39:55 people are just going to use llms to
39:57 like write stuff for because one of the
39:59 strangest things that I think happens is
40:02 when people put a few bullet points into
40:04 an llm have it generate a nice email
40:06 send it to somebody else and then they
40:08 summarize it on the other end because we
40:10 can't we just can't agree that you know
40:11 we just want the bullet points back and
40:13 forth and there's still this societal
40:14 nicity
40:17 but someone is going to build probably
40:19 somebody already has built a first
40:21 version of this like a
40:23 great
40:25 tool to write in a new way where you
40:28 have this thing that is not you know
40:30 expanding your bullet points but is
40:32 helping you discover new things in the
40:34 idea space and that's awesome like
40:38 that's what computers do at their best
40:39 right is they they help they are a tool
40:42 that help you do things you otherwise
40:43 couldn't do yeah this is something that
40:46 I I think about a lot that you know I've
40:50 heard um I got a decent
40:53 argument in a in a public venue uh last
40:56 week about the the person that came in
40:59 said the the way llms work they cannot
41:02 produce new and novel ideas and I I
41:05 vehemently disagree with him
41:08 and what he was basically saying is
41:12 that the llm can only um process data
41:17 that it's been trained on right and but
41:19 it can't create new ideas and my
41:21 argument is well how do you create new
41:23 ideas how do human beings create new
41:26 ideas they learn it over years and years
41:29 and years and they learn you know how
41:31 this particular author wrote and they
41:33 learn these Concepts over here and they
41:35 learn this and they learn that so
41:36 they've got some limited amount of
41:38 knowledge in their
41:40 Noggin and then at some point their
41:42 Noggin smashes those ideas together and
41:44 out comes a novel thought and I think
41:47 large language models are really good at
41:49 that and particularly when you're in a
41:52 creative
41:53 writing mental space the speed with
41:57 which a lot large language model can
41:58 smash ideas together even if if you
42:01 could prove that it can't come up with
42:03 novel ideas which I don't buy I think it
42:06 can um by Smashing ideas
42:09 together then the human being that sees
42:12 those ideas getting smash together will
42:14 come up with a new novel idea so anyway
42:16 so I I I think that's a really
42:17 interesting idea from Sam um let's
42:21 see what else is in here um how does Sam
42:24 use chat gbt how does become less Sam
42:27 want dreamed of being a novelist I don't
42:29 care lessons from Paul Graham the book
42:32 he wants to write advice for startup
42:35 Founders writing strategy memos why
42:38 isn't chat GPT a better Storyteller
42:40 that's an interesting spot
42:53 4420 you know being in the woods on the
42:55 beach whatever that doesn't really
42:56 happen anymore yeah do you take notes
42:58 during the week that you reflect on or
43:00 is it just your head no I'm a huge
43:01 notaker oh tell me about that there's
43:03 all these like fancy notebooks in the
43:04 world you don't want those um you
43:06 definitely want a spiral notebook
43:08 because one thing that's important is
43:09 you can rip Pages out frequently and you
43:12 also want it to lie like flat and open
43:14 on the table and if you like open pages
43:16 you want them to like you know like be
43:18 able to lay like this whatever you
43:19 definitely want to be able to like rip
43:21 Pages out I'm a big believer of like I
43:23 take a bunch of notes and then I like
43:25 clearly like rip them out so I can look
43:27 at mul Pages at the same time and I can
43:29 like crumple them up and throw them on
43:31 the floor and I'm done like when our
43:32 house cleaner comes in on like a you
43:34 know whatever there's just these pile of
43:37 crumpled papers that I'm like type my
43:39 notes and or whatever on the floor you
43:41 definitely want like a kind of paper
43:43 that is uh like good to write on which
43:46 is a feel thing but most paper is
43:47 terrible to write on huh um you want uh
43:51 hard front and back to the notepad so
43:53 and you also want something that can fit
43:54 in a pocket I was about to say that I
43:56 think the UN ball
44:00 micro5 pen um is the best pen overall
44:04 but the Muji Point 36 or 37 in dark blue
44:08 ink is a very nice pen for other reasons
44:11 uh so those are the by the way I totally
44:13 relate to to pen
44:16 geeking to I would use but I think this
44:19 kind of notebook and one of those two
44:20 pens is the right answer and how many
44:23 notes you're writing per day on that
44:24 thing uh I go through one of these like
44:27 every three three two or 3 weeks oh wow
44:29 so you're taking a lot of well this you
44:31 can see how much I've ripped out like
44:32 this used to have like 100 pag inors so
44:34 that's how you think about it so you're
44:35 going to basically take the notebook and
44:37 then you rip out the pages you don't
44:38 have completed notebook I don't have
44:40 completed notebooks wow what inspired
44:42 this where does this come from lots of
44:43 trial and error uh many kinds of
44:45 notebooks many pens many different
44:46 systems this one's really good another
44:49 thing I've been thinking about when it
44:50 comes to the influence of AGI on
44:53 Creative mediums is just the competence
44:56 with the written word is going up so
44:57 much and here's what I mean there's now
45:00 you know with Sora you can create videos
45:02 using text as the you can do that with
45:05 music you can do that with images and
45:07 that's a big change in terms of the
45:09 influence on of writing on our world
45:12 again for me like writing is a tool for
45:14 thinking most importantly and I don't
45:16 think that's going anywhere so I think
45:18 it's like it's really important that
45:20 people still learn to write for this
45:23 reason in the same way that even if
45:24 there's going to be like less
45:25 traditional coding jobs coding is a
45:27 great way to learn a thing too you
45:29 should still learn a code So when you
45:30 say it's important that people learn to
45:32 write what does that mean Paul rer talks
45:35 about that a lot so Paul rer from the
45:37 marketing AI I marketing AI Institute
45:40 talks about writing as how he learns and
45:43 how he thinks how he internalizes ideas
45:46 um so yeah I'm I'm this is all
45:50 resonating what it means to me is that
45:53 I've like figured out this tool to think
45:54 more clearly now if there's a better way
45:56 to think more clearly with a i great I
45:58 would switch to that definitely not
46:00 found that
46:01 yet a final question that we can close
46:03 with is there's just a lot of people out
46:05 there who are saying that AI is going to
46:06 kill writing and I so dis they're angry
46:09 about it about it and what do you make
46:10 of that I don't see any evidence
46:12 whatsoever that AI seems to be killing
46:15 writing I mean there's like a lot of bad
46:16 AI writing like plastered over the
46:19 Internet um and there's like a lot of
46:21 like bad student assignments that have
46:22 probably been written by AI but I don't
46:25 think anyone's serious I don't think
46:27 Paul Graham is sitting around being like
46:28 AI is going to you know kill my writing
46:30 here I think it would have to be like
46:33 full super intelligence before I was
46:35 like okay this is going to replace human
46:38 writing full stop and we have much
46:41 bigger issues to worry about at that
46:42 point even if that happened um let's say
46:45 we have a system that can write better
46:47 than a human uh do you think that the
46:51 most popular novel of
46:55 2027 has a human name on it or not like
46:58 a human writer on it or not I think yes
47:00 I think it does too when I finish a
47:02 great book the first thing I go do is
47:04 like I want to know about the writer I
47:06 want to know their life story and I
47:08 don't think I'll ever have that feeling
47:10 to like AI writing um that there's there
47:14 is something about you read an
47:17 incredible book and you kind of you get
47:20 connect to a person even though you
47:21 don't literally know them you feel like
47:23 you do and you feel like you have this
47:24 important shared Human Experience and
47:25 that is like some sign ific percentage
47:28 of the enjoyment of a great book to
47:30 me and I bet we keep doing that yeah I
47:34 would agree with that I you know when
47:38 um it's it's one of the
47:41 reasons why
47:44 um there are still chess tournaments
47:47 right we we have ai systems now that we
47:50 could just have ai systems play one
47:52 another in chess and and you know the
47:54 chess games would get increasingly you
47:56 know sophisticated ated and and
47:58 challenging and but they're not it's not
48:00 fun to watch right we want to watch
48:02 Magnus Carlson and see if he you know
48:04 can really pull another one off um and I
48:08 think it's the same with writing and I
48:10 think even if yay we did it brand
48:13 Brandon Brandon's tears are are are you
48:16 know drying on his face now I think he's
48:18 he's like okay we did it we did it we
48:20 saw Sammy um and if the uh if the
48:24 interview from today comes out then uh
48:28 then we we'll look at that one tomorrow
48:30 but but I think I think writing is is a
48:32 similar sort of thing like even if if
48:35 AI significantly augments a writer that
48:41 writer is is still the one that's going
48:43 to put their name on it and put it in
48:44 the world now there might be AIS that
48:46 come up with pseudonyms and put
48:48 themselves in the world it might be hard
48:49 for us
48:51 to
48:53 discern um different um different
48:57 authors right we might we might think
48:59 that a person is behind a book and
49:01 they're actually not it's it's a a
49:04 virtual author so I think that's going
49:06 to be something we're going to have to
49:07 deal with I think the whole idea of
49:09 human identity human
49:11 verification um does start to become
49:14 important uh as as new writers and
49:17 personalities emerge in the
49:19 world
49:21 um but yeah but we're going to
49:23 absolutely use these tools we're going
49:25 to absolutely use these tools I saw a
49:28 Tik Tok today someone sent it to me
49:31 um that was about these bands that are
49:35 fictitious bands and these musicians
49:37 that are fictitious musicians you know
49:39 putting out albums um and I think we're
49:42 going to see a lot of that I think I
49:45 think at some point some you know
49:46 someone's G to get get uh get famous and
49:51 then you know people are going to want
49:52 them to tour and then realize ah they're
49:54 not they're not real
49:57 um you know again I think that I think
50:00 one of the things AI will do is increase
50:03 the value of authentic human
50:07 experiences um it might be crap though I
50:10 can't be objective about it I'm writing
50:14 the story of the future I want to see
50:16 that's kind of cool I feel I I very much
50:20 feel creative in collaborating with AI
50:23 which is significantly augmenting my
50:25 writing I I feel the same way
50:28 I
50:30 the I go from like where I've been
50:34 historically is I'll have an idea for
50:37 something and and with my ADD
50:45 brain for for me to manifest something
50:48 in the
50:49 world it's got to be one of those ideas
50:52 that is persistent right you know those
50:54 ideas that don't leave you alone they
50:55 haunt you
50:59 um that's that's something that I
51:02 historically the ideas that I would
51:04 manifest in the world would be those it
51:07 doesn't mean that the non-hunting ideas
51:10 aren't good it's just sometimes in my
51:12 brain something sticks right um what I'm
51:16 finding with AI is I'll have an idea and
51:19 then I process it somehow with AI and
51:23 it'll spin up three more ideas and I'm
51:25 like oh let me run down that Channel and
51:27 then that'll spin up 10 more ideas and
51:30 so I'm finding that in a creative
51:32 session with AI I'm exploring seven or
51:35 eight or 10 ideas and within that I'm
51:39 either merging them and creating hybrid
51:42 ideas or I'm coming up with you know new
51:44 exciting you know I'm taking one of
51:47 those ideas that I never would have
51:48 gotten to with a traditional approach
51:51 and sometimes I use AI to exploit that
51:54 and sometimes I don't but it's like I
51:55 never would have gotten there had not
51:57 been on that path and that's that's what
51:58 I find exciting khaki fix Simmons

52:02 exactly what AI does is it allows me to
52:05 go squirrel and then manifest that idea
52:08 squirrel manifest that idea and then I
52:10 can sit back and look at him and go oh
52:12 that that's a shitty one but this
52:13 squirrel idea is really
52:16 good it's really really
52:21 fun significantly augmenting my writing
52:24 is a little problematic for for writers
52:27 I disagree with that I fundamentally
52:30 disagree with that Chris most most
52:34 writing is the blocking and tackling of
52:37 just getting the [ __ ] structure down
52:40 right it's not the Nuance in the
52:43 refinement most writing is just the
52:46 [ __ ]
52:48 crap of I have this idea okay now I got
52:51 to come up with a structure now I got to
52:53 put the ideas in the structure if I can
52:55 get a AI to knock out the structure and
52:58 and even start to populate some of the
53:00 structure and then I can go in and look
53:02 at it I I'm still writing I'm Still The
53:05 One refining and and pulling those ideas
53:08 and going no that's a crap idea let me
53:10 swi switch these two things around so I
53:13 I completely disagree I just think it's
53:15 a different way of writing I think it's
53:17 a faster way to process the ideas and
53:20 get the low-level blocking and tackling
53:22 of writing out of the way so I can
53:24 either focus on High level ideation or
53:27 refinement and the [ __ ] in the middle is
53:29 more like curation rather than plotting
53:32 away [ __ ] writing word after word
53:35 after
53:36 word
53:40 so Chris that's how I feel when it
53:42 rewrites my code I I mean listen I think
53:46 that I think that the master Crafts
53:49 People of this
53:52 world that have their
53:54 identity tightly tied to the
53:58 craft are going to have the biggest
54:00 problem with AI for people that love
54:03 putting one word after the other and
54:05 doing that great with ADD I don't have
54:07 the [ __ ] brain for it I hate it that
54:10 that part of the writing process I
54:12 despise I I'm the same way with coding I
54:14 know how to code I'm a shitty coder
54:17 because I despise the detail of all the
54:20 little [ __ ] nuggets I just want to do
54:23 the high level skating right in the case
54:26 of words I can refine it in the case of
54:27 code I can't but if I can get some code
54:30 to just work good enough then that's
54:32 good enough for me but a master coder is
54:35 not going to be happy with that they're
54:36 going to want to refine that same with a
54:38 master writer and I so I think it's just
54:40 going to be different brains will
54:42 interact with these things differently
54:44 and I really do think this idea of the
54:47 more attached you are to the craft of a
54:49 single discipline the rougher this
54:52 transition is going to
54:54 be um
54:57 my story emerged through telling AI
55:00 telling it to AI over and over that's
55:01 pretty
55:03 fascinating um khaki Fitz Simmons yes
55:06 and it takes
55:09 time manually without a tool that can be
55:12 daunting yeah exactly I agree with that
55:15 Kyle I gave 401 save the cat and it
55:18 flipped to hero's journey and
55:20 drastically unblocked and improved my
55:23 drafted screenplay outline I I'll tell
55:25 you what the the thing that I think that
55:27 these things are the best at is sort of
55:32 analyzing and and organizing and you
55:37 know if you've got some semblance of an
55:40 idea and you say I want five different
55:42 storytelling Frameworks it knows them
55:44 all and it can populate five different
55:47 storytelling Frameworks with your idea
55:49 and then you as a human can go look at
55:51 that [ __ ] and go oh this this is the
55:53 direction I want to go I like I find
55:55 that fascinating
55:57 how about I don't even know what that
56:00 means
56:05 Monty all right I think that kind of
56:08 mindset is why many people fear to dance
56:12 or sing they think that there's a
56:13 correct way to do it and they don't want
56:15 to do it badly yeah I I I wouldn't
56:19 disagree with that I had an image in my
56:21 head that I wanted to paint I described
56:24 it to Google in detail it created it and
56:26 then I painted it on canvas incredible
56:28 that's the thing Cara so you know
56:32 someone
56:33 someone I mean my wife's an artist I
56:36 know a lot of
56:39 artists and from the outside they look
56:42 at Ai and they're like I just it you
56:43 know it just vomits out work like even
56:45 if they understand the Nuance that it's
56:47 not copying and pasting art even if they
56:49 understand it's generating art there's
56:51 something about the speed with which it
56:54 generates that art that that devalues it
56:59 in some people's minds and what I would
57:01 argue is you had an image in your head
57:02 you wanted to paint
57:04 it you were able to visualize that
57:06 within seconds and then that allowed you
57:09 to have a a point of reference of the
57:11 thing you wanted to see in the world and
57:13 express that in a different way I don't
57:15 see anything wrong with that at all I
57:17 find that really exciting I'm trying to
57:20 write in a way that actively
57:24 avoids the standard
57:26 drives the story structure it seems more
57:28 interesting to me but maybe it sucks but
57:31 I mean you know what's fascinating
57:32 archetypal architect here's a thing to
57:34 try if you haven't tried it
57:37 is have the AI ask the
57:41 AI
57:44 um what are some successful novels or
57:48 screenplays or
57:50 stories
57:52 that you know are in the world where
57:55 conflict doesn't Drive the story and
57:58 then once it tells you them tell it to
58:01 analyze all those stories and break down
58:03 the structure and give you ideas for
58:06 your story and you could even have it
58:07 analyze your story against those
58:10 successful stories where conflict
58:11 doesn't drive the
58:13 action um these people are the bane of
58:16 my existence it's too fast oh I exactly
58:21 I know that there's something I I think
58:25 we are all going to have to confront
58:26 front the speed that these tools work
58:29 right like one of the one of the areas I
58:33 get completely overwhelmed with with
58:35 with AI is it gives me too many options
58:39 right the curation part of it is hard
58:41 because there's so much coming at me but
58:44 I'm the one driving it I'm the one
58:45 saying give me more ideas give me more
58:47 ideas and I'll run down a rabbit hole
58:49 and sometimes I like the rabbit hole
58:50 better than I like the main thread and
58:53 then I'm kind of in this you know state

59:33 like if if they share an example with
59:37 you you're like oh that's what that
59:39 means but if your brain if you're not
59:42 encyclopedic
59:45 musically but you know what you like
59:47 you've got good musical taste then soono
59:51 what it allows you to do is just
59:54 describe [ __ ] randomly okay give give me
59:56 some Electronica with folk okay that I
59:59 don't know how that would be and then it

1:00:02 kind of cool or maybe it rewrites a
1:00:05 prompt or maybe you have chat GPT write
1:00:07 the prompts and it's writing things with
1:00:09 musical terms you may not understand how
1:00:11 to produce musically butso
1:00:14 does and then you listen to 10 12 you
1:00:18 know 50 versions of a song idea and
1:00:21 there's going to be one in there that
1:00:24 just is like Bang that's me I'll I'll sh

1:01:41 vicariously through these characters I
1:01:43 was creating and I'm like I want to know
1:01:45 this guy's story and so that's what I

1:03:56 are using AI is the thing that remains
1:03:59 intact is their
1:04:01 taste right their
1:04:03 discernment their creative point of view
1:04:07 what AI does is it vomits out ideas like
1:04:10 thousands and thousands of ideas right
1:04:12 like all these ideas Bam Bam vomit vomit
1:04:15 vomit and some of them are funny right
1:04:17 like you know here it gave me some ample
1:04:19 bosoms that's [ __ ] hilarious great
1:04:21 right you know um you know this one's
1:04:24 fascinating and weird and creepy
1:04:27 um you know here I am the you know the
1:04:30 Cabbage empresario of Wisconsin I think
1:04:33 is is what I what I gave him but then
1:04:36 when it does something that
1:04:40 is like 100% in line with who you are
1:04:45 creatively that's when you realize that
1:04:47 that there's something there can be
1:04:49 something Transcendent about AI if you
1:04:53 allow yourself to just be in that place
1:04:56 where when it generates something that's
1:04:58 in line with who you are you go that's a
1:05:00 thing I want to put in the
1:05:02 world

1:17:51 working what's not share how you do what
1:17:53 you're doing because it's we're we're
1:17:56 moving into a world of infinite content
1:17:59 generation where it's going to be
1:18:00 infinitely easy to create stuff and to
1:18:03 come up with ideas so the preciousness
1:18:06 of feeling like you have to hoard your
1:18:08 ideas let that [ __ ] go because things
1:18:11 are moving too fast to be able
1:18:14 to sustain yourself in that world people
1:18:18 are going to just sort of blow your
1:18:19 doors off just blow by you so anyway
1:18:22 that's what this community is all about
1:18:24 um there's a simple little seven-step
1:18:26 onboarding process here just walk
1:18:28 yourself through that and then you know
1:18:30 we've got you know about the community
1:18:32 we've got a news area the showand tell
1:18:34 areas are where you can go show off your
1:18:36 you know latest images and things like
1:18:38 that um but also every one of these has
1:18:41 a list of recommended
1:18:43 tools and a place to talk about hey how
1:18:46 do you use that tool how' you do that

1:18:53 valuable resource and then we've got
1:18:55 creative guilds all these sub
1:18:56 communities within the the uh within the
1:19:00 community and we've got clubs so the AI

1:19:07 for the AI learning lab so the people
1:19:09 that show up here night after night
