43. 8:45you were here um you were here last night but we did play with a little Bard last night um and it did it did pretty good I don't know

50. 10:22done um creative writing exercises with between you know uh Claude and Bard or chat GPT and Bard and I actually thought
51. 10:34Bard did qualitatively better than chat GPT 3.5 yeah in a on a on a on a in a on a scientific uh comparison of like three
52. 10:50prompts but it was good it was really good the chat GPT 3.5 minimize characters per response net now I don't possibly I don't think
53. 11:06so where is my mouse chat GPT 3.5 they're not saying that they did
54. 11:27um write me a 5 thou write me a 5,000-word epic poem about a dog that sings whenever a
55. 11:44guitar is [Music] played
56. 12:00that looks pretty long that was a pretty long response I don't know um it's possible I mean you know when when Dolly first came out it
57. 12:08generated four images and then it generated two images and now it generates one image but if you use the dolly GPT it
58. 12:16generates two there's a little trick for you what's your opinion on chat GPT becoming lazy um it seems like the lazy um The Lazy Lobby
59. 12:29has got a good PR firm I don't know I don't first of all I don't know what chat GPT being lazy means um I see a lot of people talking
60. 12:40about it I saw that GPT um chat GPT like a a Twitter site from chat GPT I think it was the official one responded to it and said
61. 12:51nothing's been changed since November 11th so we're not sure what you're talking about but we're looking into it um
62. 13:00it's possible so so one of the things that happens with these large language models is something called Model drift I
63. 13:07don't understand a ton about it my assumption about model drift was as the engineers [ __ ] around with the thing
64. 13:14on the back end and tried to make it better they would sometimes make it worse but if indeed open AI hasn't
65. 13:20mucked with it since November 11th and we're now on December 10th it's been a month that they haven't mucked with it I
66. 13:27don't know maybe it's possible um I I I I do I do not know lazy refuses not to do things unless pushed I haven't experienced it
67. 13:40but I you know I'm I'm trying to think am I like the stuff that I've been using it with
68. 13:56h I had a couple of weird things things where where I tried to transcribe a video that was in Japanese and it transcribed some of it
69. 14:05in Japanese and some of it in English and some of it in like Indonesian or something it was weird um so I it's possible there's
70. 14:14weirdness going on like so so one of the things we talk about in here a lot is well I talk about in here a lot is that your expectations
71. 14:26of these here uh large language models should be relatively low they are all the technical term for it is janky pieces of
72. 14:41[ __ ] um everything right now is a bit of a Jank um just because of the nature of how early we we are in in whatever this
73. 14:49stuff does and if if you look at what um what is rumored to be well not rumored to be what is confirmed to be
74. 14:58called qar but is rumored to be some remarkable tool that's going to make chat GPT a shitload better um we're
75. 15:06probably not that far away from these tools being really really really really really really really really really good
76. 15:13so I would say just be patient just expect that they're going to things are going to crap out pate if nobody has changed it then it's likely
77. 15:23an input middle component that they changed yeah that makes sense because so you've got you've got your underlying large
78. 15:31language model down here GPT 4 or 4.5 whichever one it is and then you have chat GPT which is an application layer
79. 15:39so it's possible that they they modified some things in the application layer just in how it calls how it how it um
80. 15:48talks to the underlying large language model it's possible they put in some new safety guard rail that screwed something
81. 15:55up I don't know I do not need this is not this is not something this is all I can do here is speculate
82. 16:01and Pate loves a good speculation that's why he comes because Pate goes to other sites for factual information but he comes here for chat
83. 16:11TMZ um I noticed today it kept giving me the steps to do something something instead of just creating it the thing
84. 16:18itself Z I've had that that that drives me [ __ ] Bonkers I tend not to have it with chat GPT 4 um I get it more with
85. 16:273.5 but and I'll get it with some of the other things as well pie is it's piie is horrible at that I I I went back and
86. 16:36forth with pi one day about a dozen times just saying just give me the answer I appreciate that you're frustrated and really want the answer
87. 16:44but can you tell me why you want the answer cuz I want the [ __ ] [Laughter] answer cuz cuz I want it I want it
88. 16:56now I don't want to be arguing with these Bots that have weird personalities that's another thing that we've
89. 17:02discovered here on on yield live is that is that the the the Bots they definitely have personalities
90. 17:11and and I I think this is something that we're going to talk about at the water cooler well will there be a water cooler
91. 17:17I don't don't know we don't go to the office anymore it's going to be something we talk about on Zoom calls for a
92. 17:24while you're not going to believe what Sydney did today she's such a little [ __ ] sometimes [Laughter]

94. 17:43noticed that that it truncates things yeah that one's a weird one so maybe maybe I have experienced it I've
95. 17:50experienced the truncation things the truncation thing where it it just doesn't in fact I I experienced it today
96. 17:59I experienced it today when I went so I took my um I took my slides of all the the hyperlinks that I tell you all to go look
97. 18:11at saved it as a PDF imported into the chat chpt and I said make this list it skipped the slide consistently it just
98. 18:21there was one slide it just skipped the piie slide and then other slides it just in included like two of the links not four
99. 18:30of the links I have no idea what was going on with it it was weird and I did I had to keep yelling at it so yeah maybe it's a
100. 18:39thing maybe it's a thing I don't know lower your expectations in life in life in general if you can have no expectations you'll never be
101. 18:54disappointed I would say your your your expectations of of the chat gpts of the world today should be zero and
102. 19:01everything else is uh is gravy so and it's a lot of gravy right now there's a lot of good stuff going on so hey guys I posted a photo and a

107. 19:53AI I don't know there's so many like it almost depends like in what area of my life or business I'm really excited about my company's new
108. 20:06AI features um so it's like what we've created is is a Content generation machine where you upload upload a video and then it just
109. 20:19starts it just starts automatically building [ __ ] it's cool so that I'm happy with um I I I think as a as a broad category
110. 20:30the thing that well well Dolly 3 so being able to generate images in the context of a conversation for me is huge cuz I love
111. 20:42like talking and you know hand waving things like that and the fact that can just make images is is really powerful and then I
112. 20:50but I think if you if you're talking just like pure large language model like a thing it does that just blows me away consistently
113. 20:58is its ability to read large documents and let you interact with them so a couple of weeks ago in here I uploaded
114. 21:08one of my screen plays a 30-year-old screenplay I haven't looked at in two decades and it instantly read it gave me a
115. 21:17Hollywood log line um described the most visually interesting scenes generated images for those like it totally brought
116. 21:26it back to life for me like that kind of stuff and then code interpreter where you can upload um a CSV file of data and it just reads the
117. 21:36the data and analyzes it for you so for me for me it's like the thing on the surface that chat GPT is good at
118. 21:45is you know generating things write a poem about quantum mechanics oh look how neat but the thing that just really
119. 21:52blows me away is especially if it's like a a chunk of data that I know something about and it just reads it it reads an entire screenplay in
120. 22:03seconds and then tells you about it it's like holy [ __ ] that that to me is just wild so let me go let's go do something here we're
121. 22:15going to we're going to hop over to the might networks to the AI Salon oh there we go and we are going to go to Welcome to
122. 22:28the salon okay so this is the AI Salon it's it's this it's this community space that we've created this channel the AI
123. 22:38learning lab in a lot of ways is an extension of this community called the AI salon and we just moved to Mighty networks
124. 22:48about a month ago and it's it's really coming along nicely and it's got all sorts of resources which I I'll talk
125. 22:56about what the salon's about in in a second um we've got like a water cooler discussion a Welcome Wagon where if
126. 23:03you're new you introduce yourself to the community show and tell which we're going to go look at Steve's poem right
127. 23:07now um there's a news channel there's tools and resources which I'm going to show you a page I just added to that and
128. 23:13then there's guilds and the guilds are really amazing so there's a a 101 Guild if you're if you're a um a beginner
129. 23:21there's a a Art Guild a writing Guild a business Guild uh P runs the mechanics Guild which is geeky there Healthcare
130. 23:28there's a video we're going to be adding an education Guild um hey Kyle I'm an iOS Dev am I going to be obsolete in 5 years
131. 23:38no it's probably going to be more like two years I I I would say now are you going to be obsolete no but if you're not AI
132. 23:50literate if you're if if you're not an AI literate iOS dev then I I I think that it's going to be increasingly tough
133. 23:57to find work if you're not AI literate why are they called guilds because um when we talk about um the AI Salon
134. 24:09what we talk about is being a community of extraordinary adventurers exploring the a AI unknown so see this kind of
135. 24:17fantasy you know ad Adventure Pack heading off into the uh into the the great abyss of AI so we describe who we
136. 24:25are as a ragtag group of Misfits n do Wells and Mis creant who have gathered to explore the Uncharted Wilderness of
137. 24:31generative AI so it's Guild like old and timey guilds so think communities of Interest right so you've got you've got
138. 24:38someone leading the guild that is really passionate about that and then you have a group of people that opt in to hang
139. 24:44out go to meetings learn about things do things together um the other thing about the salon is um our values so so we've
140. 24:54these values are derived from like what this community's already about and so the reason we put them on here is we
141. 25:00want people to join that resonate with these so curiosity is one of them generosity is another one like if you
142. 25:07learn something share it like don't be stingy like be generous why not the the stuff's changing every three months
143. 25:14every month Christ every three months uh every month um exploration we want people that are on this adventure
144. 25:20choosing to be on this adventure we want people that are collaborative and want to work together we want people that are
145. 25:25willing to you know work with people people from all different professions education backgrounds experience
146. 25:31backgrounds like it none of that [ __ ] should matter cuz everyone's trying to figure this stuff out and then the final
147. 25:37one is empathy we want people that um recognize that everyone's going through some stuff and uh and you know that
148. 25:46we're willing to be people first and then technology second so anyway so that's what it's about so let's go to um

186. 31:46again and here we are so this AI stuff in my opinion is um has it it it's got all the Hallmarks of what was happening
187. 31:56with the web in '94 when I when I stumbled onto that um except this AI stuff is moving a hell of a lot faster
188. 32:05and it's a hell of a lot more capable just remember if Kyle asks us to cut off our families we are 100% in a cult until then we're

227. 38:34that and then you can say make it even colder make it even colder make it even colder so you just keep saying make it
228. 38:42even make it even you know more more something more cold more spicy more more hot whatever it might be and then it it
229. 38:49just it just starts doing stuff like this or it gets super extreme we should have an AI learning lab's 2024 calendar
230. 38:56I have a GPT for that oh that's a great idea Christopher Ramsey that's actually not a bad idea um all right I think I

330. 54:45first one is do then there's data analyst then there's classic GPT if you want chat GPT without all the cool [ __ ]
331. 54:52click here um there's a Santa one a game one a negotiator so there's some cool ones to play with and then at the very top you'll see
332. 55:01create a GPT and and you may be intimidated by this but honest to God you not only do you not need to be a
333. 55:09programmer like you you you can you can be just this side of functionally illiterate and make one of these things
334. 55:18um the way they've set it up so the way it works is this you have the left hand pain is where you create
335. 55:27the thing and then the right hand pain is where you play with it they call this the playground which is annoying because
336. 55:33they also call their developer portal the playground so in here they refer to the playground which I thought was the other thing but
337. 55:40it's actually just this window so if if you've ever played on open AI playground that's not what this is this is just for
338. 55:48gpts so on the create side you've got this create mode and then you've also got configure mode and configure mode if
339. 55:56you've ever been to PO and seen how po Bots are configured or or you you said you know I want to make a bot on PO it's
340. 56:04almost identical there's you can upload an image you name your Bot you describe it you give it a prompt you maybe give
341. 56:11it some conversation starters to start with and then in the case of chat GPT um you can upload knowledge so you could
342. 56:20upload a PDF you could I think you can upload up to 20 files something like that you could upload data files you could upload Word
343. 56:27documents all sorts of things you can also turn on or off the its ability to browse the web generate images or use
344. 56:34what's called code interpreter so if you want your GPT for example maybe you wanted to write um a children's story
345. 56:44and then illustrate that children's story you could then tell it if you used code interpreter you could tell it to
346. 56:52save that um to to to format the pictures and the story book in a Word document and save it as a downloadable
347. 57:01Word document so so code interpreter is really powerful um and it can also do you know data analysis things like that
348. 57:08and then if you want to get geeky there's a thing called actions where you can actually connect your GPT to other
349. 57:14computer services so one of the examples they showed on dev day was they had a thing that recommended sightseeing
350. 57:22locations in a given City and then using actions it automatically populated a map with pins for the different locations
351. 57:31that it suggested so you can get quite sophisticated but if you're not technical already you're like Kyle this
352. 57:37is too much I can't I just what are you trying to do to me I thought this was going to be easy you said it was going
353. 57:43to be easy this is really exhausting I'm going to bed don't go to bed just calm down going to be okay we're going to
354. 57:50flip back over to create mode and it look it's nice it's says you're back let's continue where we left left off well we didn't start so what
355. 57:58happens in create mode is you can literally talk this thing into existence so the the hardest thing is what do you want this GPT to
356. 58:07do let's say um and I'm just using macintosh's uh voice to typing uh accessibility feature here so you don't have to watch me type
357. 58:20or wait for me to type so that's when I talk to this thing that's that's what's actually going on here
358. 58:27I'd like to create a GPT oops I'm not in my you got to put your little cursor in the Box I'd like to create a
359. 58:36GPT that educates people on the Flora and Fauna of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in and around Denver Colorado and
360. 58:51then creates an image of of the animal or plant that's been described period in fact why don't we make it some
361. 59:05sort of game that I want you to come up with so that's like a relative it's a relatively cool idea but it's a it's a
362. 59:18completely inarticulate shitty shitty like if you were to talk to a a developer and you just if that was your
363. 59:27entire pitch they'd be like okay I have about a thousand questions right um who's the audience uh what do you want
364. 59:34the functionality to be back and forth um chat GPT just figures that [ __ ] out and goes and builds it for you so it
365. 59:40says great we're making progress the GPT will now act as an educational guide focusing on the floor and F of the Rocky
366. 59:46Mountains New Denver it will engage users in an interactive game where they can learn okay so oh this is good so so
367. 59:55guess the rocky mountain creature describe a plant from the Rockies I'll show it what animal am I thinking of it lives near
368. 1:00:05Denver and then tell me about a Rocky Mountain Bird I'll draw it cool so so notice this I I went over on this side
369. 1:00:12and I asked wait hey could you speak to how well the chat GPT document upload Works yes it works it works quite well
370. 1:00:27wow okay caveat number one all of these tools right now are janky pieces of [ __ ] so just accept that as a
371. 1:00:38reality caveat number two large language models hallucinate which means even if they're pretty good and
372. 1:00:48and um use your your document that you uploaded as the source of its knowledge it's possible that when it answers
373. 1:00:57someone it'll just make [ __ ] up um there's also it's it's relatively easy for someone else to get access to
374. 1:01:08the data that you upload with these things without putting some Protections in place that will likely get better but
375. 1:01:15but open AI needs needs to fix that so so there's a bunch of stuff so if it's super proprietary data I wouldn't mess
376. 1:01:23with it you you could take super proprietary data and anonymize it and and experiment with it that would
377. 1:01:29probably be fun to do um but it's pretty good the one thing that you may need to do is once you upload the data like give
378. 1:01:37it an instruction only use the uploaded data as your source of information when you answer someone CU I I remember
379. 1:01:46creating one of these where I uploaded data and it seemed to like just make [ __ ] up on its own or just pull stuff
380. 1:01:52from its own database as well as mix it in with my stuff and so the minute I told it only use my stuff it got much
381. 1:01:59better um but it's but it's surprisingly good so so anyway so you sort of tell this side what you want it makes it and now

490. 1:20:53folks are doing right now is that against code and it'll look up Denver building codes and say it's what they're
491. 1:21:01doing is fine or what they're doing is not fine and if it's not fine it's like here's the code that it's that they're
492. 1:21:05violating um it's pretty slick so so you can make these things pretty pretty sophisticated anyway um that's what we do here is you
493. 1:21:14can ask questions um wait what's that say also back the prompt up outside of chat GPT jenu that's a that's really
494. 1:21:23good point so I'm in a fair amount of groups that are working on gpts and things right now um there's there's one
495. 1:21:30that I attend on Saturdays with Ann Murphy that um um Suzanne who's who's in here a fair amount um and one of her work colleagues
496. 1:21:42talked about the importance of traditional software process um like like project management like do things like like when you write a prompt
497. 1:21:54like save that prompt as a version and then you know test your GPT and if you want to fix it you know modify the
498. 1:22:04prompt and then save that as a version and do things like you know take notes on the different versions because what
499. 1:22:09what ends up happening you can very very quickly iterate these gpts and sometimes you'll run down a rabbit hole and you'll
500. 1:22:16kind of want to run back up it but you can't because you don't know what your prompts were and that's really frustrating

949. 2:38:10perfect analogy for the current AI scene fast-paced exciting a little chaotic but with a lot of energy and
950. 2:38:19creativity um who what what was the nickname for New York City in the [Music] 90s oh come on now you know it was the
951. 2:38:36Big Apple baby NYC was the epicenter of the tech world in the '90s with silicon alley booming and the tech scene
952. 2:38:43exploding just like the web back then AI today is like a giant Orchard of new ideas and opportunities full of Juicy
953. 2:38:51prospects sorry couldn't resist the fruit metaphors there yeah I was looking for silicon alley which you mentioned not the Big [Music]
954. 2:39:06Apple ha tush it my bad I was trying to be clever and it backfired yes silicon alley was the hot bed of tech startups in NYC
955. 2:39:16and it was like the wild west of the tech World lots of excitement Innovation and yes some failures too but just like
956. 2:39:23the web revolutionized the world AI has the potential to do the same so in that sense the comparison totally holds up it's a new frontier of
957. 2:39:33technology so last week Google had a PR debacle where they faked a video when they're released Gemini can you find an
958. 2:39:43example from the '90s of a similar kind of buckle and compare the
959. 2:39:59two oh man the dotom bubble of the90s was a doozy there were so many examples of companies that made a big splash and
960. 2:40:06then just completely flopped one example is the online retailer pets.com which spent a ton of money on Super Bowl ads
961. 2:40:14and even had a mascot a sock puppet but in 2000 they went bankrupt another example is web van which was an online
962. 2:40:22grocery delivery company that raised over so so I mean you can just you can just go on and on you can talk about
963. 2:40:29personal [ __ ] you can talk about current events you can have a create a game um like like one thing that I would I would encourage you to
964. 2:40:38do is what what's fascinating about Pi is that you can go to pi. a pi. a and it looks just like chat GPT and you can treat it like chat PT
965. 2:40:54and you will smash your face into a brick wall out of frustration because pie is actually really horrible at being a
966. 2:41:05good back and forth like chat GPT is with text it's it's optimized for voice so like what I would encourage you to do
967. 2:41:16is get pie put it in conversation mode like get in your car when you've got like a 2hour trip and just talk to Pi
968. 2:41:25for two hours it is a completely different experience it's it's functionally doing almost The Identical thing that chat GPT
969. 2:41:33is but it's a completely different experience and if you try to use this thing like you use chat GPT at your

973. 2:42:07me more about that and then we went back and forth and I said well what are some of the concepts that are underneath that
974. 2:42:13book and like we ran down this whole rabbit hole that this book introduced us to it wasn't like I was reading the book it was like I was
975. 2:42:22getting the cliff notes of it and then saying oo those are interesting Concepts let's go let's go explore other rabbit
