22:48 tonight so I was I was at um we out
22:53 doing Gallery hopping and we went into
22:56 this gallery on Santa Fe
22:59 um Boulevard here in Denver called the
23:01 nits gallery and the nits Gallery had an
23:04 AI art
23:06 show and there were a couple of things
23:08 about the AI art
23:10 show one was
23:13 that they couldn't get artists to submit
23:16 AI art I wish they' asked me I'd have
23:19 submitted some [ __ ] they couldn't get
23:21 artists to submit AI art so on the walls
23:24 there was some AI art and then there
23:27 were like pairs of AI art and then a
23:31 painting that was inspired by the AI
23:34 art and I can honestly say that most of
23:37 the paintings inspired by the AI art the
23:40 AI art was way better so that that was
23:43 one of my criticisms of the show uh and
23:47 but but the best part of the show is
23:49 that some of the other artists in the
23:51 Denver
23:53 Community got together online and
23:55 basically said [ __ ] like the owner of
23:58 this Gallery should be be tarred and
23:59 feathered AI art is an art like the
24:02 other artists in the community got all
24:04 [ __ ] up about it to the point that
24:07 there's a group there's a group in
24:09 Denver that has gotten together to ban
24:12 together to protest AI art and the [ __ ]
24:16 that they were saying about this Gallery
24:18 was so bad that the group that is
24:21 protesting AI art um told them to take
24:25 the posts down because apparently they
24:28 had kind of gone VI viral um thought
24:30 shrapnel good phrase thank you very
24:33 much um I I I experienced it you know on
24:37 the other side of the screen so that's
24:39 what it that's what it felt like to me
24:42 um so that was pretty [ __ ] up
24:46 but the there one of the artists in the
24:49 gallery this this dude um an older dude
24:53 he took all of the hate comments or the
24:55 best of the hate comments like you know
24:58 the of this Gallery should be tarred and
25:00 feathered and he used those hate
25:02 comments as prompts for Mid Journey art
25:05 so there's a whole wall that's got these
25:08 social media ha hate posts with
25:11 beautiful art above them that was that
25:13 was inspired by the hate
25:15 prompt so that was pretty cool okay so
25:18 this
25:20 picture so
25:22 the the woman who um who runs the
25:26 gallery nit is her name I forget her
25:28 last name nit cats or something I don't
25:32 know nit nit NES all whatever it doesn't
25:36 matter
25:39 um she was she was talking about all
25:41 this [ __ ] going on and how you know who
25:43 who was doing the [ __ ] talking and it it
25:46 was just like this it was just
25:47 destructive it was just like [ __ ]
25:49 behavior um from from the Denver Art
25:52 Community because it's a really small
25:53 community everyone [ __ ] knows
25:54 everyone so she was telling me about it
25:56 so I took a picture of a piece of
26:00 art let's
26:04 see where's
26:06 the oh I didn't save it I took a picture
26:09 of that piece of art and I turned that
26:11 into into a picture into a into a a doll
26:15 I did it in chat GPT and turned it into
26:17 a piece and I showed it to her and she
26:19 goes oh that's interesting she goes
26:21 could you do my art and I said sure So
26:23 we go back she shows me a drawing that
26:24 she did on the wall that was cool and
26:26 then she said Can can you do my
26:28 sculpture so this is her sculpture
26:30 really cool sculpture right she had a
26:32 bunch of them in the back of the back of
26:34 the gallery um I've been playing with
26:36 mid Journey for the past week and I will
26:38 say it's mind-blowing art yeah yeah love
26:41 it yeah Jim Ross the the difference
26:44 between um doly which is really really
26:46 good and mid Journey when it just comes
26:48 to Art is it's like not even close not
26:50 even [ __ ] close so anyway so what I
26:53 did was I took this picture and I popped
26:55 it into chat GPT and I said described
26:59 these two sculptures in as much detail
27:01 as possible and so it did and we didn't
27:03 even really read it but she was looking
27:04 at she goes oh so it's it's writing
27:06 about it um I said yeah and then I said
27:10 now make make a make a sculpture
27:13 inspired by these two sculptures that um
27:16 you know is displayed in a museum or a
27:19 gallery and it
27:21 created this
27:24 guy and which is really [ __ ] good
27:27 right you know
27:29 and she looked at it and she was like oh
27:33 wow she goes could you do immigrants and
27:36 so I just said to chat gbt make
27:39 immigrants and it did
27:42 this inspired by her things and she goes
27:45 she goes well I could use that to design
27:49 the hats cuz I'm trying to figure out
27:50 the hats of immigrants and so I said I
27:53 said make another one and then it made
27:56 this and then her respon resp was can
27:59 you send me those
28:01 pictures um and you know all of a sudden
28:05 you know she was the one that that
28:06 hosted this this thing so she's she's
28:08 open to AI art but she had never really
28:10 played with it and so to be able to go
28:13 to be able to take someone from you know
28:17 sort of a ground zero zero knowledge of
28:20 AI take a picture of her art and then
28:25 generate these images that I mean these
28:28 are not quite as abstract as her art
28:30 like her art Arts you
28:32 know much much more abstract and
28:35 primitive but is still in the hood and
28:38 she's like looking at these hats going
28:40 I've been trying to figure out where I'm
28:42 going to get inspiration for
28:44 hats and there it is bang done amazing
28:49 right so that was a pretty cool pretty
28:51 cool AI
28:53 night whacka dooodle introducing
28:56 generative AI to someone who's never
28:58 seen it is the best experience ever it
29:00 really is like when she went from she
29:02 was like uhhuh okay so yeah so it's
29:03 describing it okay uhhuh they do people
29:06 always do that dismissive thing oh I see
29:08 it's making words yeah I've got a word
29:10 processor uh I know how computers make
29:12 words yeah no I'm good I'm good she did
29:15 a little that hang on champ needs to go

30:15 on this was a an image someone had on
30:19 Twitter on the Twitter on the X and then
30:23 I took that and I turned that into these
30:25 two things
30:28 I think I did those in
30:32 Del so that was one I did then big
30:36 fireworks I don't know why they're
30:37 having fireworks tonight I guess because
30:39 it's a
30:40 weekend
30:42 um okay this is a whole
30:48 series so I think yeah all of these all
30:52 of these are the derivative pieces I
30:55 took a I took pictures of pieces of Art
30:58 this is the thing I call Dolly round
31:00 tripping where you take a photograph
31:02 have chat GPT describe it and then
31:04 generate an image based on the
31:06 description and so all of these
31:10 are images of art based on the
31:14 description I love that
31:16 one this is like a way more
31:18 sophisticated version of what it what I
31:21 took a picture of it's just like got so
31:24 much more intricacy in all these bubbles
31:33 really
31:41 cool this is my I don't know if you've
31:43 seen any of my uh my AI Walkin talks
31:46 this is this is one of
31:48 my
31:51 um obsessions
31:53 lately is all around my
31:56 neighborhood there are the
32:00 um sidewalk
32:03 stamps and this one this one's from 1955
32:06 but they're they're like they they
32:07 basically go up until like the mid to
32:10 late 90s and then they just stop they
32:12 they don't exist anymore they don't do
32:14 them anymore and I guess this was this
32:17 is like pre-social media pre- internet
32:20 like how you would know how people would
32:22 find out if they needed to replace their
32:24 sidewalk how they would find out you
32:26 know who could do that is there'd be
32:29 these stamps in the
32:31 sidewalk you know in your neighborhood
32:33 and so You' you'd go to the Yellow Pages
32:35 I guess and you'd look up bloom in line
32:38 Construction company and you'd get a you
32:41 know you'd get a sidewalk so I don't
32:44 know I think these things are just
32:46 amazing CU they don't exist anymore cuz

36:30 is what's called decohere stations
36:33 and um a station is basically a single
36:38 prompt that's turned
36:39 into um an image an original image a
36:44 second let me see if I can get a cool
36:46 one here that one looks
36:48 cool create station this one should have
36:51 some good variety to it yeah this is
36:54 good bugs with big eyes I like it I like
36:58 it
36:59 people um and so what this is doing is
37:03 every one of these is an original image
37:05 it's generating an image a second and if
37:07 I give you the address of this station
37:10 we can all be looking at the same images
37:12 at the same time so like when it
37:15 generates that new double eyed thing you
37:17 would all see that as well and then any
37:19 one of these I can click on and turn it
37:21 into a station

49:57 them then all of a sudden people stop
49:59 hiring people for
50:01 skills and they start hiring
50:04 people for who they are and how much
50:07 they trust
50:09 them so if you're just a jerk but you're
50:13 really good at one thing and people hire
50:15 you despite you being a
50:18 jerk you better get your [ __ ] together
50:21 if you're a super nice generalist that
50:24 everybody loves working with um but you
50:28 your skills aren't specialized enough
50:30 and you've been penalized your whole
50:31 life because of that you're about to
50:33 step into your era of power where
50:37 generalists are going to be rewarded and
50:38 Specialists are going to be
50:41 penalized and there's going to be a
50:43 reckoning for [ __ ] and so get into a
50:46 group like the AI salon and start making
50:49 friends and start generously leading
50:52 teach people what you know if someone
50:54 new comes into the community help them

51:19 here's there's a guy in in Boulder named
51:21 Jerry Colona he was one of the
51:22 co-founders of Union Square ventures in
51:24 New York City back in the day in the in
51:26 the midn
51:28 and I had lunch with him a few years
51:30 back I don't know six or seven years
51:31 back now it's been a while and Jerry
51:34 said to me he
51:38 goes he goes you don't become a
51:43 CEO until you're faced with a
51:46 decision where there's no good
51:49 option he goes That's when you become a
51:52 CEO like making decisions when
51:55 everything's going fine is great but I
51:57 I'll give you an example we
52:01 had we had an office here in uh up in
52:04 veil in in Avon
52:07 Colorado
52:09 and by far the nicest people in all of
52:13 the agency.com network we had we had
52:15 2,000 people around the world 2200
52:17 people around the world and the the
52:20 Colorado office the Colorado and
52:22 Portland were the two nicest
52:25 offices and
52:30 in nove the beginning of
52:33 November this was in
52:36 200000 so we had gone public in
52:41 February no we had gone public in
52:43 December
52:45 1999 and then the do bubble burst in
52:50 April of 2000 so 5 months after we went
52:53 public everything [ __ ] to bed and we
52:56 were fine we were not really affected by
52:58 it it was it was mostly companies that
53:00 were speculative that just got
53:03 trounced and so in November there were
53:05 starting to be rumors that you know
53:07 clients were getting a little skittery
53:09 and [ __ ] like
53:11 that and so there was a rumor that that
53:14 was going around that we were going to
53:15 close the Avon
53:18 office and we got on a conference call
53:20 my partner Chan and I got on a
53:23 conference call and we called out to
53:25 Avon with the whole staff there we said
53:29 we're not closing the Avon office you
53:31 have nothing to worry
53:33 about
53:36 and three weeks
53:39 later the last week of
53:42 November we get a
53:44 call from the client that was
53:49 95% of the Avon office's
53:52 business and the previous year they had
53:55 done $10 million with
53:58 us and this year in
54:02 2000 or I guess we were about to go into
54:05 2001 they they said okay we're going to
54:08 do $20 million with you in 2020 20 uh
54:14 2001 and so get bigger offices and hire
54:19 more people so we did we moved from
54:21 Beaver Creek Colorado to Avon Colorado
54:23 we built out new offices we hired I
54:25 don't know 30 or 40 more
54:28 people and the last week of
54:32 November that client called us up and
54:34 said oh hey yeah yeah they were they
54:37 were like Lumberg yeah I'm going to need
54:39 you to go on ahead and come on in on
54:41 Saturday yeah so they called us up and
54:44 they were like yeah yeah yeah listen hey
54:47 you know how we said we were gonna uh
54:51 you know do uh $20 million next year
54:55 yeah yeah it's probably going to be more
54:58 like a
55:03 100,000 $20
55:06 million
55:08 committed we changed offices took a
55:10 5-year lease hired 30 or 40 more
55:14 people and 3 weeks before
55:17 Christmas that's the call we get after
55:20 we had just promised them we weren't
55:22 closing the
55:25 office so
55:27 here's your choice as a
55:31 CEO losing that much revenue for the
55:33 scale of Revenue we had meant one of two
55:36 things we have to close the Avon
55:40 office or we have to do a 10% cut across
55:43 the company
55:47 globally what do you
55:50 do there's no good answer that's when
55:53 you become a CEO so that's my my problem
55:55 with collectives
55:57 is those kind of decisions are usually
56:00 what syn collectives because they're
56:04 really hard decisions to make and
56:06 someone's just got to make them and you
56:08 know
56:09 it as much as it sucked the the decision
56:13 was clear and we had to close the Avon
56:15 office and so I flew out there for a
56:17 week and I sat there and
56:20 just talked to every single person in
56:22 the office it took a
56:24 week we you know did what we could to
56:27 provide Severance
56:29 we my job was to essentially say you
56:33 might not agree with the decision we
56:34 made but let me explain to you the
56:36 thinking that went behind
56:38 it and yeah that was [ __ ]
56:43 brutal but you know I'm still good
56:45 friends with people from that office and
56:47 it was funny I had I had um lunch with
56:51 with the guy that that ran the office
56:53 and his wife worked there and they both
56:56 thanked me they they said the severance
56:57 that we gave them allowed them to buy
56:59 their first house so you know it was not
57:02 all bad but boy was it [ __ ] brutal it
