OpenAI’s AI Discoveries Face the Ultimate Test: Mathematicians

Transcript

1. 0:00Greg Brockman. Announcing three major scientific discoveries, each one each in mathematics, harmonic analysis, computer
2. 0:09science, complexity theory, and physics, quantum field theory. Because the last time we just went out and said we solved
3. 0:16something, they got out the pitchforks. Our release process continues to evolve in response to feedback from the associated academic
4. 0:24communities. In our view, these manuscripts are best understood as a form of raw research data. To To convert this raw research data into
5. 0:32scientific understanding, in this release we are experimenting with a new approach. We reached out to external
6. 0:38experts and asked them to act act as shepherds. Um Act as shepherds organizing groups to understand the new results. They've

8. 0:52free to organize their own efforts to explain the result. That's actually smart right? Let the mathematicians look at what the
9. 1:00AI did, figure out if there's anything new and novel there, or if they're like, "Oh, that's Bob's." AI just took Bob's thing and made it, so
10. 1:08let's give Bob credit. That makes sense to me. >> Watch the full replay at community.thesalon.ai.
